Disney's 2023 cruise itineraries include variety of sailing options from Port Canaveral

10 night southern caribbean cruise from port canaveral disney

Disney Cruise Line will offer passengers a range of sailings out of Port Canaveral in 2023.

The company announced its itineraries for the summer of 2023, which will continue to have two of its three largest ships — the Wish and the Fantasy — based at Port Canaveral. The latest schedule release covers June through September 2023.

Bookings open to the public next Monday. Bookings will open during various times this week for members of Disney frequent cruiser groups.

Port Canaveral CEO optimistic about cruise industry future, 2 years after shutdown

Disney Wish cancels first 12 cruises out of Port Canaveral due to construction delays

The Disney Wish debuted at Port Canaveral this July, and will continue to sail out of Brevard County next summer. The Wish is the fifth ship in the Disney Cruise Line fleet and its largest, based on length and tonnage.

It will join the Disney Magic (maiden voyage in 1998), the Disney Wonder (maiden voyage in 1999), the Disney Dream (maiden voyage in 2011) and the Disney Fantasy (maiden voyage in 2012).

The Wish's summer 2023 itineraries will include a series of three- and four-night Bahamas cruises to Nassau and Disney’s private island, Castaway Cay.

The Wish is the first Disney ship to be powered by liquefied natural gas. The ship features Disney’s first “Frozen”-themed theatrical dining experience and AquaMouse, a water adventure that is Disney's first attraction at sea.

Port Canaveral also will be the departure point for the Disney Fantasy for sailings ranging in length from five to 10 nights.

Many of the Fantasy's summer 2023 sailings will be seven-night cruises to ports in the eastern and western Caribbean. The Fantasy also will offer:

  • A five-night Bahamian sailing with back-to-back calls at Castaway Cay.
  • Two six-night cruises to the western Caribbean.
  • An eight-night cruise featuring two days in Bermuda.
  • A 10-night southern Caribbean itinerary to the islands of Aruba and Bonaire.

Reacting to the Disney announcement, Port Canaveral Chief Executive Officer John Murray said: “Having the new Disney Wish join the Disney Fantasy provides some fun sailing options for cruise guests in the summer 2023 season. Every Disney ship that sails from our port creates excitement, and highlights the pride in our joint dedication to providing a high-quality customer experience for all cruise guests.”

These are the summer 2023 plans for Disney's other three ships:

Disney Dream: The Disney Dream will call on a wide variety of destinations from European home ports, with sailings ranging from four to 11 nights. It will be the Dream's first deployment to Europe, after it repositions from Miami with a 13-night trans-Atlantic cruise to Spain.

The Dream will sail from Barcelona, Spain, and Rome to ports of call throughout the Mediterranean, including a first-ever seven-night sailing to the Greek Isles with stops in Santorini and Mykonos.

There also will be late-summer/early-fall departures of the Dream from Southampton, England, and from Copenhagen, Denmark, featuring cruises to various destinations, including Spain, France, the British Isles, Norway and Iceland. New ports of call for Disney include La Rochelle, France, and two new ports in Norway — Skjolden and Sandnes.

Disney Magic: The Magic will be based in Miami for the summer 2023 sailing season, making it the third Disney ship sailing from Florida. The Magic will sail three-, four- and five-night Bahamas cruises; four- and seven-night eastern Caribbean cruises; and five- and seven-night western Caribbean cruises. Some of the summer cruises will include two days at Castaway Cay.

Before redeploying to Miami, the Magic will offer seven- and eight-night southern Caribbean cruises from San Juan, Puerto Rico.

Disney Wonder: The Wonder will offer five-, seven- and nine-night sailings from Vancouver, Canada, offering a variety of Alaskan sailings. It will move to Vancouver after repositioning from San Diego.

Scott Sanders, founder and operator of the Disney Cruise Line Blog — which is not affiliated with Disney — said this will be the first time that the Disney Dream will be sailing out of Europe. In the past, the smaller and older Disney Magic has sailed out of European ports during the summer.

It also will be the first time a Disney ship has sailed out of Miami during the summer months, as the addition of a fifth Disney ship to the fleet allows that additional flexibility, Sanders said. In the past, with four ships, Disney typically has had two ships at Port Canaveral, one in Europe and one doing Alaska sailings during the summer months.

For Port Canaveral, Disney's summer 2023 itineraries offer cruise passengers the "tried-and-true" Caribbean and Bahamian itineraries, with some variations, Sanders said. The shorter cruises offered out of Port Canaveral also allow Disney fans to both take a cruise and visit Walt Disney World during the same weeklong vacation, he said.

Here are the specifications on Disney's five ships:

  • The Wish is 1,119 feet long and weights 144,000 tons. It has 1,254 staterooms, a passenger capacity of 4,000 and a crew of 1,555.
  • The Dream and the Fantasy both are 1,115 feet long and weigh 130,000 tons. They have 1,250 staterooms, a passenger capacity of 4,000 and a crew of 1,458.
  • The Magic and Wonder both are 984 feet long and weigh 84,000 tons. They have 875 staterooms, a passenger capacity of 2,713 and a crew of 950.

In announcing the summer 2023 deployments, Sharon Siskie, senior vice president and  general manager of Disney Cruise Line, said: "We are thrilled to have five ships at sea in summer 2023 with a wide array of destinations for families to enjoy."

6 Best Cruises Out Of Port Canaveral

By Zachary Laks | Published on April 9, 2024

It's time to start planning your next big vacation. Whether you're looking for a weekend getaway, a family-friendly vacation or an extended voyage, you'll find cruises out of Port Canaveral, Florida that tick all your boxes.

When considering one of the cruises out of Port Canaveral, plan extra time before and after your sailing to soak up all the fun that the area has to offer. There's so much to do in Orlando that you could stay for several days and never get bored — music to your ears if you're traveling with children. One of the best things about Orlando cruises is that you have your choice of theme parks to round out your vacation. They're expansive and immersive escapes into playful worlds, not unlike a great cruise. I love tacking on an extra day or two at an Orlando theme park, usually before my cruise departs. I always appreciate the days of racking up thousands of steps traversing a theme park before boarding a cruise, where I know I'll be able to lounge on a deck or relax in a hot tub.

Not far from Port Canaveral, the Kennedy Space Center Visitor Complex is a great place to spend a day admiring the vast scope of NASA. The center offers one-of-a-kind immersion into space exploration, including the chance to strap into a rocket launch simulator for an adrenaline-pumping thrill.

For those seeking a more peaceful retreat before boarding their cruises out of Orlando, Port Canaveral is near the white sands of Cocoa Beach. Spend the day enjoying calm, low waves — great for year-round swimming, learning to surf and kayaking alongside manatees and dolphins. Or take a seat on an airboat ride through the wetlands for encounters with alligators and, depending on the season, bald eagles, herons and osprey.

Ready to book a cruise to Port Canaveral? Here are the six best cruises from Port Canaveral.

Serene Clear Cocoa Beach, Cape Canaveral, Florida

1. Best For A Long Weekend

Coco Beach Club Beach Cabanas Mom and Daughter Tanning, Perfect Day at Coco Cay

Set to launch in the summer of 2024, Utopia of the Seas ℠ will be the sixth Oasis Class ship, Royal Caribbean's class of ships packed with adventure and entertainment. The new ship will focus on three- and four-night cruises from its year-round home port in Port Canaveral, with onboard upgrades that include reimagined pool decks, a Giovanni's℠ Italian Kitchen that spans two decks (try the osso buco!) and the new Pesky Parrot tiki bar, serving fruity cocktails on the Royal Promenade. This itinerary  to the Bahamas on Utopia of the Seas ℠ is the best for a long weekend exploring the highlights of The Bahamas, with a day in Nassau followed by a day at Perfect Day at CocoCay , Royal Caribbean's private island destination.

2. Best For Beach Lovers

Colorful buildings along the coast, Willemstad, Curacao

This exquisite itinerary to the Southern Caribbean on Adventure of the Seas ® routes you to the farthest corner of the Caribbean for some of its best beaches. Sailing on the Adventure of the Seas ® for eight nights from Port Canaveral, you'll stop in ports such as Oranjestad, Aruba; Willemstad, Curaçao; and Kralendijk, Bonaire. Each port will welcome you with easily accessible, powdery sand beaches primed for world-class swimming, snorkeling and diving. You'll have your pick of 86 dive sites at Bonaire National Marine Park with more than 350 recorded fish species known to frequent the waters.

3. Best For A European Adventure

Gran Canaria, Canary Islands, Boats Docked

Transatlantic sailings make for such a special vacation, and this 13-night Transatlantic Azores itinerary on Adventure of the Seas ® packs four remarkable ports into the crossing. You'll cruise the Atlantic for the first nine days, living it up on a ship that is packed with ways to play and relax. You'll arrive in idyllic Tenerife in the Canary Islands on the tenth day. Immerse yourself in the local Spanish culture by spending part of your day exploring the Museum of Nature and Archaeology or the Basilica de Candelaria shrine. The cruise continues to Lanzarote, Canary Islands, where picture-perfect colonial mansions line cobblestone streets, then on to the adventurous mountain island of Madeira, Portugal before completing your journey in the charming streets of Lisbon, Portugal.

4. Best For Private Island Getaways

Hamilton, Bermuda Horseshoe Bay

This unique Port Canaveral cruise itinerary  to Bermuda and Perfect Day at CocoCay on Adventure of the Seas ® visits both of Royal Caribbean's private destinations, where paradise is just steps away from the ship. On an eight-night journey, this ship will first cruise to Labadee, the cruise line's private peninsula adventure park and beach. Soak up this private spot by relaxing on the beach, enjoy the destination's signature cocktail specialty, the Labadoozie (a fruity rum cocktail) or opt for a zip line ride that will send you soaring over the ocean. The next private island destination is Perfect Day at CocoCay, Royal Caribbean's oasis in The Bahamas. Here you'll port within short distance of pristine beaches, a thrilling water park and countless ways to unwind beneath the palm trees. There's also a stop in Bermuda, home to pink-sand beaches and rum swizzles.

5. Best For Foodies

Authentic Cozumel Shrimp Tacos

Foodies will delight in fresh, authentic Caribbean dishes on this itinerary to the Western Caribbean and Perfect Day at CocoCay on Wonder of the Seas ® . In Cozumel, Mexico you'll find lunch specialties featuring locally caught seafood, often grouper and red snapper fried on a plate with rice and a vibrant salad. In Roatán, Honduras, ceviche is the local favorite, along with fried plantains and baleadas — tacos made with soft flour tortillas. The ship's final port is Puerto Costa Maya, Mexico, a charming fishing village where the salbutes  (fried corn tortillas topped with shredded chicken) make a great appetizer to the catch of the day, served hot off the grill.

6. Best For Variety

Aruba ATV Off Road Track, Oranjestad, Aruba

This seven-night Eastern Caribbean itinerary  on Wonder of the Seas ® is a top choice if you want to change things up and go on a unique adventure in each port. Your first destination is Philipsburg, St. Maarten, where you can tour the island on an ATV, sample rum from a local distillery or end the day with a sunset horseback ride on the beach. When the ship arrives in the U.S. Virgin Islands at Charlotte Amalie, St. Thomas, head straight to Magens Bay, often short-listed as one of the world's most beautiful beaches. Or dive into a snorkeling tour to get face time with some sea turtles and coral reefs. On your final stop, Royal Caribbean's Perfect Day at CocoCay, everyone in your group can enjoy a seemingly endless array of activities. If the beach is calling, grab a spot on one of the many cushy beach loungers close to a bar serving up island cocktails that go great with the ocean view. For the adventurous ones, Daredevil's Peak® waterslide is North America's tallest and promises an adrenaline rush.

Port Canaveral chalks up record month amid growing cruise demand

P ort Canaveral saw just under 800,000 cruise passengers move on and off its ships in March as part of a record year that keeps topping expectations.

That set a one-month record for the port with an average of nearly 25,600 people a day around 93 cruise ship calls. March is traditionally one of the strongest months of the year for the port with its spring break traffic.

It also marked the halfway point of the fiscal year that began in October 2023. Six months in, the port has seen 3.9 million passenger movements from 479 ship calls.

“The industry itself is very, very strong right now,” said Port CEO Capt. John Murray at the port commission meeting on Wednesday. “There’s a lot of expansion plans. The companies are starting to reorder ships again after the pandemic.”

NCL details new dining on Canaveral-bound Norwegian Aqua

That includes more ships from Norwegian Cruise Line, which has been sending its new vessels to Port Canaveral as they debut including next year’s Norwegian Aqua.

“So a lot of great things, a lot of great things, a lot of enthusiasm and I can say that the industry is 110% of what it was prior to the pandemic,” Murray said. “They are back and booming right now. So we’re fortunate to be taking advantage of that here at the port.”

Operating revenue for the year is already at $98 million, which is $3.6 million above budget. It also means the record projection of $187 million in operating revenue through the end of the fiscal year in September is likely to get surpassed as well.

Ship capacity is determined to be at 100% if each stateroom is occupied by two passengers, so ships sailing with families, for instance, will push capacity above 100% and in turn increase revenue for the port from the cruise lines as well as add to an uptick in parking charges.

Royal Caribbean to send massive Utopia of the Seas to Port Canaveral

One of the big drivers has been the addition of a second Oasis-class vessel by Royal Caribbean so that the port hosts two of the largest cruise ships in the world.

Allure of the Seas joined Wonder of the Seas last fall to begin short three- and four-night sailings to the Bahamas, and will continue that until the debut of Royal’s new Utopia of the Seas this summer. Since arriving, it has added more than 650,000 passenger movements to the port’s growing tally.

The port has been home port to 13 ships from Disney Cruise Line, Royal Caribbean, Carnival, Norwegian and MSC Cruises, and is set to welcome its first ships from both Princess Cruises and Celebrity Cruises this fall.

Port Canaveral plots timeline to take over marina for new cruise terminal

Right now it has six cruise terminals, but is beginning the work to eventually build a seventh later this decade. During an interview earlier in April at the Seatrade Cruise Global conference in Miami Beach, Murray said the key to growth for the port will be a shift in how the port gives access to each terminal, such as how it plans to operate its seventh terminal.

“It’s going to be multiuser. It’s not going to be a single-use facility. That’s going to be how our concept of operations would be going forward,” Murray said. “The only way you’re going to get good utilization of a terminal is if you can put multiple brands in there and not have it dedicated to just one user.”

That’s how it runs several of its terminals now including Disney Cruise Line at Cruise Terminal 8 and Carnival Cruise Line at its newest terminal, Cruise Terminal 3.

“If they’ve got seven days a week at one terminal and they’re only using three, maybe four days, that’s not high utilization,” Murray said. “Yet, it’s a facility that we’ve got blocked out that we’re not getting any benefit from it for the investment we’ve made.”

He notes Cruise Terminal 10, which gets used by three brands, gets used six days a week.

Murray said with newer and bigger ships on order from all the major lines, the demand is just going to continue to spike for parking space at Florida’s big three ports.

“I think the point now for all of the major brands is finding somewhere to operate,” Murray said. “Because there’s only Miami, [and] we all know how full Miami is; Everglades, [which has] limited capacity or opportunity for growth; and we have more land, but you know, it’s not all going to get committed to the cruise industry.”

“So the question is, how do we allow more opportunities for the cruise lines to operate? This is one — get high utilization out of the terminal.”

I would think on a cruise this long I’d want my last day to be a sea day instead of Castaway Cay. Thoughts?

' src=

Castaway as the last day was great! Next year this cruise replaces Tortola with San Juan. If they were going to change anything with this itinerary I’d suggest replacing Martinique with any other Island. Martinique offered nothing, we did a mediocre excursion, there is really nothing to do walk-able from the port, beaches aren’t that nice compared to the other stops and the reputation of the French island being unwelcoming to tourists is accurate. Tourism isn’t the top industry here and the local residents could care less if you are there or not, actually walking down the street you get the feeling they’d rather you not be there. The ship was the most crowded I had seen a ship while docked at a port. On the whole this 11 night cruise was great!

' src=

That is not really feasible with the ocean the ship needed to sail on this itinerary. The option would be to start at Castaway, but Disney tries to make this the final stop as much as possible to leave it as lasting memory.

' src=

heading on this cruise june 30 of 2018. We can’t wait. Would love more tips..

Thanks for the information.

Aruba was absolutely beautiful, we did an amazing excursion that took us all around the island on UTV’s, the port offered great shopping opportunities. Barbados could’ve been a lot better, about half of the tours involved going to the Barbados Wildlife Preserve. The preserve wasn’t very nice at all it smelled of monkey poop, and the monkeys and turtles would just walk right under you. There wasn’t much history of the island. The only nice thing that I experienced as the immaculate cruise terminal. This terminal was home to many popular stores and touristy things. Martinique was definitely not something that I enjoyed, the people were very rude there. Once you got off the ship you just saw a bunch of run down buildings, when Natalie came over the P.A. she said that we should visit the cathedral. When we got to the cathedral, cops were putting up barriers saying that it was closed. There was absolutely nothing to do there. St. Kitts… where do I begin, the area where you walk in is filled with touristy stores and restaurants.

Once you finished walking around you were like “Where is the rest of it?” To get anywhere other than the tourist area you had to walk through a sketchy alleyway where you would see homeless people and other beggars. Once you were in the clear it was like a market, we walked two steps and almost got hit by a van, we immediately turned around and went back to the ship to rest up for our late excursion. Our kayaking excursion left at 2:15 and by this time, the temperature was around 94°F. We waited in the sun for around thirty minutes for our tour bus, everything after that was great! The other side of the island was B-E-A-Utiful day (as Natalie would say.) Tortola was by far the best port. Our excursion was amazing but overpriced for the amount of time we had. We did the “Discover Tortola Dolphin Encounter.” After the excursion we went back to the touristy areas and shopped. By far my favorite port. Castaway Day was awful, the heat was so intense. Serenity Bay was loaded because everyone wanted to “cool off” whatever that is. I am a native Floridian so I am used to the heat but that was unbearable. Overall a great cruise. Very Happy!

Thank you for posting this. We are going on the 6/30/18 11-night cruise and were trying to see how it differed from the 7-night ones and to see if it was worth the extra for 4 more nights. Seems they do a good job of having a lot of activities. Looking at the excursions, they mostly had different ones at each port that were good for our son who will be 6 on the trip (fortunately before we swim with the dolphins where the minimum age is 6). Any other tips/guidance is appreciated.

' src=

Thank you for the information, will be in the June 30th, 2018 11 day Southern Carribean cruise. Do you need to exchange your mone while in Martinique?

' src=

Hi K Brown. we too are on the 6/30 cruise, coming from Connecticut. We are traveling with a 6 year old as well (girl) We have two 13 year old girls as well. Booking dolphins in St. Kitts too. Hoping the clubs will be a hit this trip. This is our 3rd DC, second on Fantasy.

Things To Do

Subscriber only, travel | port canaveral chalks up record month amid growing cruise demand.

Royal Caribbean's Allure of the Seas arrived to Port Canaveral to home port for the first time on Wednesday, Oct. 25, 2023. (Richard Tribou/Orlando Sentinel)

Port Canaveral saw just under 800,000 cruise passengers move on and off its ships in March as part of a record year that keeps topping expectations.
