CHARYN CANYON AND KOLSAY LAKES

almaty tour kz

For millions of years, wind and water carved unique natural sculptures from sedimentary rocks, constantly deepening the formed canyon. You will have a few hours to walk through the canyon and see the wonders of natural creativity.

Next, we will drive additional 100 km from Charyn Canyon to have an excursion walk along the path leading around the largest of the lakes. Kolsay lakes are the pride of Kazakhstan. Translated from Kazakh, “kolsay” means “gorge of lakes”.

For a million years, wind and water sculpted  red sandstone to form today’s fantastical shapes and shadows. Chiseled out of the steppe clay by an eponymous white river, Charyn Canyon is Kazakhstan’s supreme rift. After crossing the endless, wide-open plains outside of Almaty, the canyon comes as a surprise.

Ali is great, he listens to you and plans according to your demand and he provides several options. U will get confused what to choose:))))). I was picked up by Daulet at 4am at the airport, he greeted me as a friend not as a customer. He is most fun guide and driver I've ever met. Daulet never shows you that he is tired, always fresh always on time. Ali was constantly making sure that everything is going well by calling Daulet. I highly recommend these guys for anyone planning to visit Kazakhstan!

"ali has helped and planned an excellent trip for me. his company guides are fantastic and my guide daulet is exceptional. i highly recommend ali, he is a gem".

Prahbat, India

"It was amazing, we really like the trip! Nature was breathtaking! The driver was super nice and helpful, always checking on us if everything is ok and if we need something. Really great young man. Thank you Qoshqeldin Almaty"

Ana, Croatia

“It was a veryyy long day but it was worth the tiredness to see the different sights! We stopped 4 times and each sight was unique in its own way, all were stunning. Our favourite was the boat ride on Kolsai Lake, very peaceful and beautiful scenery. (the toilets here need some improvement though! 😅😭) Daulet was a great driver and we had fun along the way with some very good and funny conversations 😂👌🏼He was very friendly and social. The food on the tour was also delicious, we definitely need to try that again one day!”

Ehsan, United Kingdom

"Must appreciate the services provided by Almaty Tours. Our English speaking guide Sergey was excellent, he was polite, humble and friendly. We went to Lake Issyk, Ostrich Farm & a restaurant which cooked our fresh catch (fish)."

Nirpendra Singh, India

"Professionally organised tour. We were guided by Arsalan who was very efficient indeed. Would have loved a bigger vehicle as we were 7 of us. But thats a minor issue. Arsalan went out of his way to help us in making the holiday a memorable one. Will highly recommend them, Thanks guys!"

Short tour of Almaty

About Almaty

Almaty is the former capital of Kazakhstan till 1997. Then it lost its status to Astana. Despite that Almaty remains the biggest, the richest, the best city in all of Kazakhstan.

Almaty is the economic, cultural, and transport hub of the country. No wonder it attracts many travelers from around the world. Almaty has everything to amaze anyone. The gorgeous Alatau mountains alone are a wonder of Central Asia.

Where in the world will you see a city located in the footsteps of a big mountain? On top of that, there are many natural beauties in many valleys and gorges. One can be amused to see them. The city itself has modern facilities and amenities. Hi-tech shopping malls, modern hotels, etc. are open to host guests. The Almaty tour is just a short impression you can experience while traveling.

Variety of Tours in Almaty

The urban environment and natural landscape present in and around the city are suitable for combining many items to create an amazing experience for tourists. Even the locals have no idea about the true beauty of their own city.

Based on distance duration and taste, it is possible to make various tours. Tour packages are suitable to satisfy many demands.

When it comes to geography, Kazakhstan is located between Europe and Asia. The Kazakhs love to mention this point. It is not surprising that the region is called Central Asia as opposed to South Asia, South East Asia, etc. Because of that, the Almaty package is more or less affordable to all parties.

Travelers can stop here to experience another culture on the way to East and West. Historical experience of Kazakhstan is expressed in architecture, city design, language, ethnic landscape, etc. For Asians Almaty can be as good as any Eastern European country: there are modern ski resorts, international hotel brands, modern architecture, ethnic flavor, and so on.

Depending on the point of departure, the Almaty trip can be smooth and comfortable. There are direct flights to Almaty from Dubai, Istanbul, Delhi, Seoul, Bangkok, etc. As long as visa stuff is in order, then one can travel freely. Why not? The world has more or less recovered from the coronavirus pandemic and is open to international travel.

1. What are the best places for tours in Almaty??

Almaty is famous for its natural beauty, cultural heritage, and as a city of apples. The largest apple in the world grew in Almaty and weighed more than 1 kilogram.

2. Is it worth visiting Almaty?

Yes, because in just one journey you can visit the Charyn Canyon (the younger brother of the Grand Canyon), National Park, Kolsai Lakes, Kazakh steppes, dunes, Sairan Reservoir.

Almaty Region 5 days/4 nights

almaty tour kz

Price per person

$405 – 505 pp Add $35 for 4-star hotels

This is an easy paced tour in and around Almaty.  Most people love being able to spend all four nights in the same central Almaty hotel without needing to pack/unpack and change hotels.

The tour gives you an opportunity to know the historic capital and largest city in Kazakhstan, and also has you venturing out into some of the areas of outstanding natural beauty nearby.

If time and budget allows, we’d recommend adding at least one more day and including a day tour to Charyn Canyon.

If you want to add a second country, Bishkek, the largest and capital city of Kyrgyzstan is only about four hours drive away.

This 5 day/4 night tour, including accommodation and the guided sightseeing, meals, admissions and other items as detailed in the itinerary below, ranges in price depending on the time of year, how many people are traveling together, and the standard of hotel requested .

For two people traveling together, pricing is approximately US$540 per person with four star hotel accommodation.  Pricing generally goes down as group size goes up.

Detailed Itinerary

Please note that you're welcome to adjust or change this itinerary if you wish while making your tour booking. Let us know exactly how you wish to enjoy your time in and around Almaty.

Day 1 : Arrive Almaty, Regional Touring

almaty tour kz

We’ll meet you upon arrival at the airport or train station today and transfer you to your hotel.

Most trains and international flights arrive into Almaty in the morning, and so we’ll have your hotel room confirmed for early arrival so you have a chance to freshen up after your journey from wherever.

Assuming a morning arrival, then after lunch we’ll travel south of the city to the Tian-Shan region and the Trans-Ili Alatau mountains.

The road is very scenic and beautiful as is goes through valleys and gorges, and takes us to our two main destinations this afternoon – the Medeo ice skating rink and sports complex, and the Shymbulak ski resort.

The Medeo (sometimes spelled Medeu) complex is world famous, and during 33 years there have been a total of 126 world records set here.  It also has two world records just by being there – it is the world’s highest and largest skating rink, at 1691m or 5548 ft asl.  During the summer months it is an entertainment and wellness center, and offers roller skating instead of ice skating.  Of course, in winter, sports such as ice skating and hockey are featured.

A bit further on, and a bit higher, brings us to the Shymbulak ski resort (also spelled Chimbulak).  As well as the road, the world’s third largest gondola run travels between the two locations.  The ski season is typically from November to April, and the highest ski lift goes up to 3200m or 10,500 ft asl.  During the other months, hiking opportunities on beautiful mountain trails can be enjoyed.

You’ll be returned back to your hotel in the early evening.

Day 4 : Regional Touring

You will meet your guide after breakfast this morning, and then travel out of the city, to experience two major attractions today.

First you will travel to the Big Almaty Lake, sometimes abbreviated BAO (Bolshoye Almatinskoye Ozero in Russian).  This is about an hour’s drive from the city center.

The lake is way up in the Trans-Ili Alatau mountains, 2510 meters/8235 feet above sea level.  On a calm day, its icy blue/green surface acts as a perfect mirror for the mountains and sky that surround it.  We’ll continue a bit further above the lack so you have beautiful vistas from above looking down to the lake surface, and across to the mountains, richly clad in spruce, aspen and juniper trees.

Although by no means the largest lake in Kazakhstan, some people suggest it to be the most famous, due to its beauty.  A natural reservoir, it provides drinking water to Almaty, and so no swimming is allowed.

You’ll have plenty of time to explore some of the trails in the area and to enjoy the unspoiled natural beauty of the lake.

In the afternoon, you’ll then travel to the Falcon Nursery, and be treated to a demonstration/show with traditional falcon hunters on horseback and their highly trained falcons.

The nursery typically has over 370 birds in it at any one time, and usually from about 15 different species, some common, and some relatively rare and considered endangered.  Among the birds you’re likely to see are Golden Eagles, the national animal of Kazakhstan and featured on the Kazakh flag.

Historically, the greatest falconer is considered to have been Genghis Khan.  He created a “Table of Ranks” that defined who had the right to hunt with which type of bird.  He reserved the gyrfalcon exclusively to himself – if anyone else even touched one, they would be put to death.

During the presentation, you’ll see how a golden eagle can catch a wolf, how a white-tailed eagle catches fish, and how a saker falcon can fly at 200 mph/320 km/hr.

After time at the Sunkar Falcon Center and Nursery, you’ll return back to your Almaty city hotel.

Day 5 : Tour Ends, Extensions Possible

almaty tour kz

One final breakfast, and then – unless you have extended your time in Almaty – it is time to check out and to continue your travels.

We’ll be there to take you to the airport or train station in plenty of time for your travels on from Almaty.

Thank you for visiting our wonderful city of Almaty, and our country of Kazakhstan.

We hope your travels and experiences were wonderful, and we hope we did everything you needed to ensure a safe and enjoyable time.

Interested?

This is a great way to experience some of Almaty and the adjoining region and can be a great building block on a broader experience in Kazakhstan and possibly extending to some of our neighboring ‘stan countries too.

Almaty City Tour

almaty tour kz

Almaty is simultaneously ancient and modern, and always an interesting city.

Our tour of the city will show you 19th century architecture, monuments, and magnificent street art, large distinctive modern buildings, and smaller historic structures.

The tour is a great opportunity to understand the history of the city and to see the magnificent landscapes of the Trans-Ili Alatau mountain range immediately outside the city!

During this tour you will reach a height of 10,000 ft (3200 m) above sea level, where you can take unforgettable photos over the city and beyond.

The guided tour is available in a selection of languages and typically starts between 9-10am when you are collected from your hotel, and you’re returned back at the end of the tour, usually between 5-6pm.  The tour is a mix of walking and being driven.

Among highlights are traveling a short distance out of town to the Medeo ice skating rink and Shymbulak ski resort (both fascinating all year round), and within the city, visiting Republic Square, the Panfilovsky Park of 28 Heroes, and the Green Bazaar.

We are organizing ECO-FRIENDLY individual and group tours in Almaty and around the city.

Depending on how many days you are staying in Almaty, we are offering you combination of options where you can explore city and beautiful nature that surrounds it

  • Luke from Great Britain This was my first time in Central Asia, and I could not have asked for a better introduction. From Almaty’s cosmopolitanism, friendly people and endless coffee shops to Charyn Canyon, from Kolsai & Kaindy Lakes to a stay in an authentic Kazakh village, our guide Daniyar could not have prepared a better itinerary. There's something for everyone in Kazakhstan!
  • Eric from Canada Exceptional tour through the Almaty region. From local cuisine prepared by grandmothers to mountain hikes on top of lakes to sipping coffee in local cafes, the tour offers an incredible view into this up and coming region, this is a hidden treasure for sure. Book now before it becomes too busy.
  • Kefei from China and Dubai Kazakhstan is the first country I visited after almost 2.5 years of COVID no-traveling, and it did not disappoint me. Central Asia has always been a region veiled with mystery. Having limited knowledge about the region and country, I find my short trip to Almaty extremely pleasant with many expectancies. Kazakhstan, and particularly Almaty, has a long and rich history. The collision between different cultures from the West and the East throughout history as well as the relatively recent Soviet influence made Kazakhstan a melting pot of various ethnicities. It was fascinating to see the influence of these ethnics group on the everyday lives of the Kazakh people. The country is also rich in its natural scenery. From the Charyn Canyon which stretches 154km in length, to Lake Kaindy where birch trees rise above the surface of the water, and Shymbulak Mountain which is charming in both the summer and the winter. The vast natural scenery was all I wanted for my first proper getaway. I was super grateful for my friend and host from the country, Daniyar. Thanks to his advice prior to our trip, we were able to make the most of our short stay and visit all the highlights without exhausting ourselves. In addition, we were lucky to explore some of the most authentic and tasty Kazakh food under his hospitality which we probably would never be able to find as tourists. Overall, we enjoyed our trip to Almaty, Kazakhstan a lot, and would highly recommend it to anyone who is eager to uncover this piece of a hidden gem. If you do plan to come, feel free to connect with Daniyar who can show you the most authentic side of Kazakhstan.
  • Timofei from Estonia I went to Almaty for a week, working half of the time remotely. Thanks to Daniyar, I could make the most of the trip. He showed me around some key areas, sharing insights on how the city has changed over the years. Every day he was very responsive, giving suggestions for top cafes to focus on work, as well as hints on where to go out. The top highlight was the hike to Kok Zhailau. I fell in love with Kazakhstan and surely will be back very soon.
  • Arsenii from Dubai&Russia I’ve had an absolutely great experience with Easy Nomad. It was my first time in Almaty and their friendly and knowledgeable staff organized everything for me, from the airport transfer to the sightseeing and even restaurant bookings. Would totally recommend Easy Nomad to anyone visiting Kazakhstan for the first time or otherwise.

Crammed into a small crevice where the Kazakh steppe morphs into the rugged tops of the Ile-Alatau Mountains, the city of Almaty is now one of the beating cultural and economic kingpins of Central Asia. Recent oil money has bolstered the town with a cosmopolitan population of expats, Russian emigres and Kazakh business folks, which has also brought buzzing bars and fine-dining restaurants.

Almaty is home to diverse tourist attractions. There are the telling remnants of the Soviet age, the stark whitewash of the Presidential Palace and the sprawling Republic Square juxtaposed with astoundingly beautiful cathedrals, natural lakes and even the throbbing fashion street of Arbat– think endless malls and knock-off clothes labels. Along with this, Almaty tour guides often delve into the National Museum to reveal the deeper past of this town, going all the way back to the days of the great Ghengis Khan and the hordes of the Mongol Empire. And when the city gets too much, be sure to make for the mountains, to the ski resorts at Chimbulak and the huge Medeo ice rink. For apple lovers, there is an extensive diversity among the wild apples in the region that you can choose from!

3 Days in Almaty, Kazakhstan

Updated March 2024 , 3 Days in Almaty, Kazakhstan originally appeared on Valerie & Valise back in 2019

If I asked you, could you point to Kazakhstan on a map? Probably yes, if you’ve found this post… Good for you! Many people have no idea where Kazakhstan is, much less that Almaty is the largest city, former capital, and ideal entry-point into Central Asia.

Almaty is increasingly becoming a city break destination for Europeans. Even those of us from North America are starting to hear how amazing Central Asia is as a destination. I’d even wager that Central Asia will become one of the best ‘off-beat’ travel destinations in the 2020s

Whether you’re planning a longer Central Asia trip – either an adventurous itinerary into the rural parts of the region or a city-hopping itinerary through Almaty, Nur-Sultan, Bishkek, and Tashkent – you should definitely spend a few days in Almaty to enjoy the urban comforts the city has to offer.

This post will help you figure out how to spend 3 days in Almaty, no matter how long, where, or what type of travel you’re planning.

Almaty, Kazakhstan Travel Tips

Before I launch into my suggested Almaty city break itinerary, I want to cover a few FAQ and travel tips so that all your questions are answered by the time this post is done. Here are my top travel tips for visiting Almaty for three days.

When to Visit Almaty

Almaty has four distinct seasons, so when you choose to visit will have a big impact on your experience.

  • Winter in Almaty means cold temperatures and often snow; January has an average temperature of just above freezing.
  • Spring in Almaty brings warmer temperatures and rain; April has the most precipitation.
  • Summer in Almaty is sunny and hot; August is the warmest and driest month of the year.
  • Autumn in Almaty has an ‘Indian Summer’ but quickly cools off; September is a good shoulder season with warm temps.

Based on these seasons, the best time to visit Almaty is between May and September . However, July and August will be hot and sunny, so if you have flexibility, I would personally choose to visit in May, June, or September.

Getting Around Almaty

To begin: you don’t need a car to get around Almaty. It’s easy enough to use public transit and taxis. Your public transit options are to use the bus or the metro ; the metro has only one line, so it’s most helpful if you’re staying along that line or within a few minutes’ walk.

If you want to take a taxi in Almaty, be sure to download the app Yandex Taxi . This will allow you to arrange drivers that will already know your destination and fare when they pick you up – it’s basically the equivalent of Uber. However, the app is entirely in Russian, so the best way to use it is by asking your hotel concierge or host to set the destination for you in the app before you call a driver.

Guided vs Independent Travel in Almaty

When it comes to visiting Almaty, you can definitely do it as an independent trip – but a guide will certainly help if you’re a little nervous about traveling somewhere that almost no one will speak English. (For the most part, you won’t be able to ask locals on the street for directions or pop into a taxi and tell them where to go.)

I spent part of my time traveling on my own in Almaty (with fellow non-Kazakh travelers) and part with a guide; if you want the same amazing guide, you can reach out to Nurlan and see if he’s available.

What to Pack for Almaty

Academy of Sciences, Almaty, Kazakhstan

I’ve already put together a packing list for Central Asia , but if you’re not planning to do a ton of outdoorsy stuff, I would adjust it slightly. While I recommend one day-hike below (to Big Almaty Lake), you don’t need all that other hiking gear I included on the list.

I would still make sure to include a day pack , camera , good hiking/walking shoes in your suitcase; you probably don’t need a headlamp, water tabs, or toilet paper – actually, bring that toilet paper because you never know what the situation might be. Most places in Almaty will have western amenities, but it’s better to be safe than sorry!

If you’re only visiting Almaty and not going hiking, I would be sure to bring sunscreen and/or a hat to protect your face and keep cool. Almaty is at 3,000 feet in elevation and, like I mentioned above, summers can be sweltering. As a woman, I would also bring a scarf so that you can cover up if you want to enter any churches or mosques.

3 Days in Almaty: What to See & Do

Okay, enough with the travel tips and other stuff – let’s get to the three-day Almaty itinerary already! Here are my suggestions on what to see and do for three days in Almaty on a city break.

(Oh, one last thing before we dive in – flights from Europe typically arrive in the middle of the night; flights from the Asia often arrive in the afternoon. If you have the option, I’d route your flight through Istanbul, Turkey, as flights from there arrive throughout the day and you’ll have the most flexibility to control your arrival time.

But, if you arrive in the middle of the night, I’d start your itinerary that same day as “Day 1” below.)

Day 1: Sightseeing & Exploring the Golden Quarter

Almaty, Kazakhstan, Abay Theatre

Assuming you arrived in the middle of the night, your first of 3 days in Almaty might start off a little later than usual. Most hotels offer half or full board, so you can set out to explore the city after breakfast.

I highly recommend starting your weekend in Almaty with a walking tour of the historic Golden Quarter (sometimes called the Golden Square). I had the chance to take a walking tour with Dennis of Walking Almaty (pictured below); he’s a wealth of knowledge about the history of Almaty, Kazakh history, Soviet history, and generally fascinating trivia.

He offers a Golden Quarter walking tour that’s a perfect option; it will guide you from Abay Square to the Abay Kazakh State Academic Opera and Ballet Theater.

Valerie, Almaty walking tour

Dennis offers walking tours by appointment, so you might plan to start at 10:30 am or 11 am and end around lunchtime. You can then stroll down Panfilov Street for lunch and admire the street artists.

Valerie, Kazakh Academy of Sciences, Almaty, Kazakhstan

In the afternoon, I recommend heading indoors to one of Almaty’s museums. Dennis offers a guided tour of the Academy of Science which is home to several museums including one on Kazakh ethnic history and another of natural history (including some fascinating fossils of species we never had in North America). While it is possible to do these museums on your own, they aren’t super non-Kazakh/Russian-speaking friendly, so a guide can help a lot.

Valerie, Almaty Museum, Almaty, Kazakhstan

For another museum option, consider visiting the Museum of Arts of the Republic of Kazakhstan . The museum is full of Kazakh and Soviet artists from a number of eras and styles. The best part is that this museum is well-climate-controlled – perfect on a hot summer day!

Valerie, Almaty nightlife, Almaty, Kazakhstan

To round out your night, head to the Hotel Kazakhstan – you’ll recognize it from your walking tour in the Golden Quarter! On the 26th floor, Barfly offers panoramic views of Almaty and the surrounding region, good drinks, and food. Enjoy dinner as the sun sets then call it a night after a long day.

Day 2: Sampling Kazakh & Soviet Culture

Rise and shine! For your second of 3 days in Almaty, prepare for a full day of exploring the city and its complex, nuanced cultural history. As you saw yesterday, the Soviets had a heavy hand in the modern Almaty you’re exploring – but there are places to experience Kazakh culture too! Here are some of my tips.

Auezov, Auezova, Auezov Metro station, Auezova Metro station, Almaty, Almaty, Kazakhstan, Almaty Metro

Rise early to explore Almaty’s Metro System before commuter traffic starts. The metro stations are not as elaborate as those in Tashkent, Uzbekistan , but they’re still beautiful to behold. My favorite was Baikonur station, named and designed for the region in Kazakhstan where Russia launches their rockets. ( Obviously .)

Valerie, Kazakh Academy of Sciences, Almaty, Kazakhstan-2

If you didn’t visit the Academy of Sciences yesterday, it’s a must today. Specifically, be sure to visit the Museum of Archaeology which shows some of the oldest Kazakh relics discovered in the region.

Green Bazaar, Almaty, Kazakhstan, zelony bazaar, green bazaar almaty

The Green Bazaar is a spectacular spot to wander around, pantomiming or trying your hand with some Kazakh words to ask the vendors about their foods and other products. (Dennis also offers a walking tour here if you want a guide!) You can try traditional Kazakh food as well as imports from the rest of Central Asia; this is a great spot to seek out lunch.

Panfilov Park, Almaty, Kazakhstan

Definitely visit Park 28 Panfilovtsev which has Soviet war memorials neighboring Zenkov’s Cathedral . It’s a double-whammy of fascinating cultural legacies of the Soviet Union in Kazakhstan.

Arasan Baths, Almaty, Kazakhstan, birch branches, Russian Bath, Russian banya, banya

In the afternoon, head to Arasan Wellness & Spa . The fancy European name belies the fact this is a modern take on the traditional Russian banya – and you can opt for the oak-birch thrashing for extra detoxing. (Pardon my blurry photo – it’s literally the only one I took before entering the banya!)

Man's Cafe, Almaty, Kazakhstan, Kazakh food, Kazakh cuisine

For dinner, seek out local/regional cuisine. Navat has loads of Central Asian dishes, as does MAN’s City Cafe along Panfilov Street; Markanda serves a mix of Central Asian and Soviet dishes; Tyubeteyka has more specifically Uzbek dishes; and Darejani has Georgian food if you need something a little more familiar.

Day 3: Hiking Day Trip to Big Almaty Lake

Big Almaty Lake, Almaty, Kazakhstan

On your last of 3 days in Almaty, let’s get out of town! I always love a good day trip or half-day trip when I’m doing a weekend getaway somewhere… Big Almaty Lake is a great option if you’re visiting Almaty for three days.

To reach the lake, you’ll need to hire a taxi – this is no problem using Yandex, but you may want to try and check with the driver once they arrive to make sure their car can handle the drive up to the lake. (Our driver’s car was… questionable at best and we had to stop a few times to top up the coolant with water running in a nearby stream. Very Central Asia!)

Big Almaty Lake, Almaty day trip, Almaty, Kazakhstan, Central Asia, BAO

Big Almaty Lake is located at 8,238 feet above sea level, and there are unofficial trails around various parts of the lake. You’ll see lots of other visitors there, shooting photos and hiking around. Bring plenty of water since it’s hot and dry despite being near a giant alpine lake!

Kok Tobe, Almaty, Kazakhstan

Once you arrive back in Almaty and freshen up, head to Kok-Tobe hill and ride the Gondola up to the top. This hill is a fascinating mix of tourist traps, fair attractions, and stunning views – it’s a fantastic place to watch the sunset on your last night in Almaty.

Most flights back to Europe depart early in the morning; you may want to head straight to the airport and hang out there or grab a few hours of sleep at your hotel then check out early and catch a taxi to the airport.

And there you have it – everything you need to spend 3 days in Almaty! Do you have other questions about visiting Almaty? Let me know in the comments!

2 thoughts on “3 days in almaty, kazakhstan”.

Hi, I’ll be visiting Almaty for three days in October so this is very helpful! Is there a specific area or even a specific hotel you’d recommend? Also, I have four days to work with on this trip. Probably only time to swing by one other country, maybe two I guess, but is there any one you’d recommend?

Mildom Hotel is pretty centrally located and the price point is great. The L.E.S. business Hotel is decent if you’re looking for a cheap private room (they’re tiny!)
