Complete Guide to Animal Kingdom Lodge (w/ review)
Disney’s Animal Kingdom Lodge is one of many deluxe hotels at Walt Disney World. It’s located near, you guessed it, Disney’s Animal Kingdom.
You can also find Disney’s Animal Kingdom Villas – Kidani Village and Disney’s Animal Kingdom Villas – Jambo House on the same property.
This is 1 of 8 Deluxe Resort hotels (not including Deluxe Villas) on Disney World property. What makes this resort special is that it’s kind of like being at Animal Kingdom.
That’s right, you can see wild African animals roaming the grounds, including, but not limited to giraffes and zebras. This is definitely an amazing resort.
Here’s everything you need to know about Animal Kingdom Lodge.

Animal Kingdom Lodge is located in the Animal Kingdom theme park area. It’s probably one of the most unique hotels at Disney World.
The resort is inspired by the traditional “kraal,” which is a horseshoe-curved design that offers views of four savannas where over 200 animals and birds can be seen. There’s also African-themed dining, fun pool areas, a range of room selections that are also accessible, and so much more.
There are also two Disney Vacation Club resorts on property: Disney’s Animal Kingdom Villas – Kidani Village and Disney’s Animal Kingdom Villas – Jambo House.
Animal Kingdom Lodge offers regular guest rooms, whereas the “Villas” refer to DVC accommodations available at both Jambo House and Kidani Village. All of the resorts also share the same dining locations.
Because Animal Kingdom Lodge, Jambo House, and Kidani Village are so close to each other, Disney provides an internal shuttle to transport guests between the resorts.
As for Animal Kingdom Lodge specifically, here’s what you need to know.

Where The Magic Never Ends
Disney’s animal kingdom lodge 1 bedroom villa room tour, jen brennan.
- July 14, 2021
On our last trip to Walt Disney World we were lucky enough to stay at Disney’s Animal Kingdom Lodge. This deluxe resort is adjacent to Disney’s Animal Kingdom Park and provides amazing views of wildlife right out of your window. It truly feels like you are in the middle of an African Savanna.
Our family stayed in a one bedroom villa located in Kidani Village with a Savanna view room. When we entered the main living space, we were astonished by not only the beautiful detail in design but also the spaciousness of the rooms.
The full kitchen provided everything that we needed like a microwave, refrigerator, oven, sink, dishwasher, coffee machine, toaster, cooking utensils and dishes. Although we prefer to take advantage of the amazing dining options at Animal Kingdom Lodge, we could certainly prepare a full meal in this kitchen.
The living room had a large pull-out couch as well as an oversized chair that pulled out to a bed. There was plenty of seating space including a table and chairs to enjoy your meals, and an island with bar stools.
Also in the main living space, you can find a washer and dryer which was very helpful. They even provide you with laundry detergent to get you started. There is an ironing board and iron as well.
Full baths are located not only in the main living area but also attached to the master bedroom. Everyone had plenty of space for the morning rush to get out to the Disney Parks.
I certainly enjoy a room with a view, and Disney’s Animal Kingdom Lodge did not disappoint! From both the living room and the master bedroom, I could see animals grazing and wandering through the Savanna. (The resort can provide you with a wildlife field guide so that you can take note of which animals you have seen throughout your stay).
The large master bedroom included a king size bed, a desk, a dresser that provided plenty of storage, a big screen TV, and an amazingly large master bath.
Let’s take a moment to talk about the master bath. Wow! After a long day in the parks, relaxing in the jacuzzi tub was amazing. The oversized shower had complimentary toiletries, a bench and a rain shower head. Our vanity was large enough for multiple family members to use at once. The toilet was in a separate room allowing even more privacy.
We have stayed in most of the Disney resorts, and I have to say this is definitely on the top of the list! If your family loves wildlife, the comforts of home, and the ability to be super close to the Animal Kingdom theme park, I highly recommend Disney’s Animal Kingdom Lodge.

by Morgan Flaherty | Mar 6, 2024 | Walt Disney World Resorts , WDW Blog
We’re sharing a complete room tour of Disney’s Animal Kingdom Lodge 1-Bedroom Villa. And learn how to stay at this DVC resort for less!
At Walt Disney World, have your pick of Value Resorts , Moderate Resorts , and Deluxe Resorts . In the latter category, you’ll also find some incredible Disney Vacation Club properties, which offer deluxe amenities for DVC members (and those looking to rent with David’s Vacation Club Rentals ). We’re sharing a full-room tour of an Animal Kingdom Lodge 1-Bedroom Villa at Jambo House.
Animal Kingdom Lodge Villas
Disney’s Animal Kingdom Lodge – Jambo House offers several options for villas. You can get a Deluxe Studio that sleeps up to four adults, a one bedroom villa that sleeps up to five adults, a two bedroom villa that sleeps up to nine adults, or a three bedroom grand villa that sleeps up to twelve adults. Each comes with different options for views, including the coveted Savanna view that allows you to look at the animals from the view of your porch.
Animal Kingdom Lodge 1-Bedroom Villa
The Animal Kingdom Lodge 1-Bedroom Villa comes equipped with a kitchen, including a refrigerator, oven, stove, and shelves fully stocked with anything you need. Past the kitchen you’ll find a small dining table, as well as a living area with a pull-out queen bed couch.

The living room leads out to a massive deck that extends through to the bedroom, connecting to form one long area for looking out on the savanna. Heading towards the bedroom, you’ll find a stacked washer and dryer, as well as a door to the bedroom and bathroom. In the bathroom, you’ll find a tub and shower, a toilet separated by a door, and a large vanity with two sinks for getting ready.
The bedroom has a King Bed with Simba and Nala silhouettes carved into the headboard. The bed has nightstands on each side, with another television available. And the sliding door leads out to the deck connected to the living room.
Outside, you’ll find the real star of the room — the view. You can look out on Animal Kingdom Lodge’s stunning savanna, home to animals such as zebras, giraffes, okapi, and more. You can enjoy taking in the stunning setting while enjoying a cup of coffee in the morning…
…or even take in the views of giraffes and other wildlife at night after a day at the parks!
While there are plenty of rooms that don’t offer a savanna view, if you are able to book one it makes for a truly once-in-a-lifetime experience to get to take in the wildlife from the comfort of your room.

Disney’s Animal Kingdom Behind-The-Scenes Tours: Reviews, Breakdowns, and Know-Before-You-Go
Animal Kingdom has a number of behind-the-scenes tours available, all of which give you private, up-close experiences with a select set of animals. In this article, you’ll find a breakdown of each of the four tours, as well as general information on how the tours work, what you can expect, and important items to know before you go!
Important Information
To start with the basics: All of the tours offered require separate theme park admission and until January 2024, a park pass reservation for Animal Kingdom (or a park hopper for the later tours). All tours occur rain or shine, but may be cancelled or adjusted in the event of thunderstorms. And all tours do not technically guarantee that you’ll see animals, since animals are never forced to do anything or go anywhere at Disney’s Animal Kingdom. It would be extremely unlikely (we’d say borderline impossible) that you are unable to see any animals during your tour, but that is a disclaimer that Disney gives!
Tour check-in is at the Curiosity Animal Tours kiosk, located across from the entrance to Kilimanjaro Safaris. Be sure to arrive early, as late arrivals typically cannot be accommodated and you’ll usually need to fill out a waiver before heading out!
Different tours have different levels of “backstage” viewing. For Wild Africa Trek and Savor the Savanna, you go into areas of Kilimanjaro Safari that most guests can’t see, but you’re still onstage. For Caring for Giants and Up Close with Rhinos, you do go into a fully backstage area, so just something to keep in mind with little ones! Note that when you are in a backstage area, no photos or videos are allowed.
All tours typically have discounts available for Annual Passholders and/or DVC members and are available to book 60 days before the start of your trip. This means that if you’re staying from Friday to Tuesday at an on-property resort, you can book for your entire stay starting 60 days from Friday, even though Tuesday is 64 days out. If nothing is available, keep checking back – sometimes, tours aren’t posted until 30-45 days out!
Savor the Savanna and Wild Africa Trek both have food components. They are able to accommodate any dietary restrictions, you’ll just let them know at check-in. Alcoholic beverages are also provided for anyone over the age of 21.
Now let’s go over key info for each of the individual tours:
Caring For Giants
Availability: Daily, typically at 9:00AM, 10:00AM, 1:00PM, and 2:00PM
Length: 1 hour
Cost: $35 per person
Restrictions: Guests must be 4 years of age or older and guests under 18 must be accompanied by an adult
On this tour, you’ll hop on a bus and take a quick 10 minute drive to a viewing area in the back of the African Elephant enclosure, where you’ll be able to view the herd from 80-100 feet away. Throughout the tour, the guide will provide information about the elephants and their care at Animal Kingdom. The tour is extremely freeform and is heavily based around the questions asked, so definitely come prepared with a few!
Elephant seen during Caring For Giants tour
Up Close With Rhinos
Availability: Daily, typically at 11:00AM
Cost: $45 per person
Similar to Caring for Giants, on this tour, you’ll take a quick 10-minute bus ride to a backstage viewing area for the White Rhinos. During the tour, the guide will provide information about the White Rhinos and their care at Animal Kingdom, focused primarily on answering your questions (so be sure to bring some!) While most of the tour will be from a distance, the tour does end with getting to touch a rhino in their enclosure!
Two important things to note about this tour: 1. Since it only runs once per day, it is typically the hardest to book 2. The tour takes place entirely backstage, so no photos and videos are allowed at all throughout the tour.
Savor the Savanna
Availability: Daily, typically at 3:15PM and 4:30PM
Length: 2 hours
Cost: $174 per person
Restrictions: Guests must be 8 years of age or older and guests under 18 must be accompanied by an adult
This tour is the most relaxing of the four! You’ll hop on a special Kilimanjaro Safari truck and take a special safari tour, stopping part of the way to meet with a keeper who will tell you about how they care for the animals on the savanna. Then, you’ll make your way to a pavilion at the top of the savanna, where you’ll have food from Tusker House and Tiffins waiting for you, as well as alcoholic beverages. You’ll get to sit and enjoy your refreshments while you learn about the animals and their care (including asking questions!), before finishing off the safari at the end.
Wild Africa Trek
Availability: Daily, typically at 8:45AM, 10:15AM, 11:45AM, and 12:30PM
Length: 3 hours
Cost: $199 per person
Restrictions: Guests must be 8 years of age or older and at least 48 inches tall. Guests under 18 must be accompanied by an adult. All participants must be between 45 and 300 pounds with the harness gear on.
This tour involves many parts! You’ll receive a harness and everything will need to be strapped to you – if your cell phone as a case, you can get a phone holder to bring and they’ll provide a new water bottle that you can keep at the end of the tour. Small cameras that hang around the neck are also allowed, as are hats, ears, and sunglasses. Anything else will need to be stored in a locker!
During the tour, you’ll watch a hippo feeding, cross two suspended bridges over a hippo enclosure and a crocodile enclosure, and get a special crocodile viewing. The guides have lots of prepared information to share, but are also happy to answer any questions! You’ll then finish by going to the same pavilion as Savor the Savanna to enjoy food from Tusker House and Tiffins, as well as alcoholic beverages.
Hippo encounter during the Wild Africa Trek tour
All of the tours at Animal Kingdom are incredible – we’ve done all except Up Close with Rhinos, and plan to do that soon as well! It’s hard to say which is “best”, as it really depends on what you’re looking for. Our recommendation for someone just starting out with tours would be Caring For Giants, and if you’re a huge Animal Kingdom-lover, Wild Africa Trek!

Savannah View Room at Animal Kingdom Lodge
The savannah view rooms at Animal Kingdom Lodge offer a great view of animals that you don’t get to see very often. Think of safari animals like giraffes, zebras, and ostriches. Since I know how much I love looking inside of hotel rooms before I book, I’m sharing a peek inside of our savannah view room at Animal Kingdom Lodge in the room tour video below.
I would have to say that our favorite thing about our savannah view room at Animal Kingdom Lodge was that we could wake up and watch the giraffes as we ate breakfast on our balcony each morning.
The only thing that I would change about the room is having a couch or a bit more of a sitting area. We will definitely be back to Animal Kingdom Lodge and will certainly be staying in a savannah view room when we return! If you’d like to learn more about why we love staying at Animal Kingdom Lodge, then you’ll want to check out our other post, 4 Reasons to Stay at Animal Kingdom Lodge .

From our tour. Impressions of our American tourist:
We walked over the bridge where I got a better photo of the Kremlin to enter metro station to travel the one stop back to the Cathedral of Christ the Saviour. This cathedral has a fascinating story. It is Moscow's largest Orthodox cathedral. It was built between 1839-1883 as a memorial to those who fell fighting Napoleon's army in the War of 1812.
At its entry, the marble walls are covered with inscribed names of those whose lives were lost. For more than a century, it was the city's largest single structure, dominating the city skyline. In 1931, a few seconds demolished what had taken 50 years to build, following Stalin's orders.
The marble from the church and other valued materials and objects were stripped and removed to be used elsewhere, such as for creating art in the Metro stations. During Khrushchev's time, one of the world's largest outdoor swimming pools was built.
In recent years, the decision was made to rebuild the Cathedral; this time it took only 5 years at a cost of $150 million. While the city provided most of the funding, when the decision to rebuild was announced, the rubles poured in from the general population. Once again, photos were not allowed, but my friend bought a booklet, and she kindly let me use it so you can see its elaborate interior.
What you probably DO know about this cathedral is that the Russian punk band Pussy Riot performed a protest concert inside the church in 2012, resulting in their arrest and jail time for 3 of its members.
After my friend selected her icon from the gift shop, it was time to bid our favorite Muscovite guide farewell. Our Moscow guide has restored my faith in her generation. So wise and compassionate she is. She was extremely perceptive about our preferences and needs.
As my friend noted to me last night after we got back to our room, there wasn't a problem our guide didn't solve with calm and timely effectiveness. After she presented both of us with gifts tied with satin ribbon, she walked us across the plaza in front of the cathedral to our waiting cab. She told my friend that she reminded her of her own "Baba" and that she would send my friend a picture of her to show the resemblance.
Even with this affection on her part toward my friend, I know our guide would have delivered the same excellent guide service to us, topped with abundant grace and sensitivity. These characteristics are a part of her inner soul. Our positive regard of Moscow is because of our guide.

Overall, Disney's Animal Kingdom Lodge remains our most recommended resort. The addition of "The Lion King" theming was very minimal. We think this resort fared the best of the three recently remodeled resorts. It still very much feels like Animal Kingdom Lodge with modern touches. Watch our full room tour below.
