Best Hotels and Resorts

Best things to do, best shopping, best restaurants, best time to visit, how to get there, neighborhoods to know, how to get around.

Bermuda is a true island paradise. This British territory is famous for its  pink-sand beaches  and laid-back island vibe. A popular spot for tourists but fiercely protective of its strong sense of identity, Bermuda's atmosphere is upscale, artsy, and naturally wild.

T+L editors named the island as one of the best places to visit in 2023 due to its new $400-million airport terminal, hotel openings and renovations (see The St. Regis Bermuda Resort and Cambridge Beaches Resort & Spa), and new airline routes to the island, including a direct flight from LaGuardia Airport in Queens . Make plans to come at the beginning of the year, when the island's film festival and restaurant weeks take place. Or, visit during the summer to enjoy the dancing and music of Bermuda's Carnival.

Despite its popularity with visitors, Bermuda is hardly touristy: tacky souvenir shops are few, and commercialized clutter like fast-food chains are banned (save for one pre-existing KFC that was grandfathered in). This North Atlantic island is about 900 miles north of the Caribbean islands and boasts glorious weather all year long.

Cambridge Beaches Resort & Spa

Opened in 1923, Cambridge Beaches Resort & Spa reopened in 2022 after a major renovation — and was voted as one of the best new hotels of 2023 by T+L editors . Much of its original architecture remains, including 100-year-old coral stone walls. The 86-room resort features four private beaches, indoor and outdoor pools, multiple sports courts, and a full-service spa. Sip classic island cocktails surrounded by sunken treasure (recovered by Bermudian diver Teddy Tucker) at The Sunken Harbor Club , an outpost of the nautical-themed bar in Brooklyn, New York.

The St. Regis Bermuda Resort

The Marriott brand returned to the island of Bermuda, where it has not had a presence since 1999, with the opening of The St. Regis Bermuda Resort in May 2021. Its "bespoke service, exquisite design, outstanding culinary venues, and historic Five Forts Golf Course" — as Jan Vanhaelewyn, the resort's general manager, previously told T+L — makes for a relaxing and luxurious retreat in a picturesque setting.

The Loren at Pink Beach

The Loren is located in Bermuda's East End. The hotel is right on the beach and is known for thoughtful amenities, including a custom soundtrack that plays throughout the day. "The Loren," Stephen King, the hotel's developer, said previously to T+L , "shows what Bermuda can be."

Hamilton Princess & Beach Club

The five-star Hamilton Princess is a hotel, beach club, and marina all in one. Its pink exterior has been an iconic sight on the island for over a century. Plus, it's just a five-minute walk from downtown Hamilton.

Grotto Bay Beach Resort & Spa

Grotto Bay Beach Resort is the only hotel in Bermuda that offers an all-inclusive option. Jay Correia, the president of Swizzle Ltd, said the resort has a welcoming family-friendly atmosphere and offers "a great beach and [options for] water sports." Stretching over 21 acres along beautiful Bailey's Bay, the real draw of Grotto Bay Beach Resort is its spa: the hotel is home to crystal caves coated in 500,000-year-old stalactites and stalagmites with crystal-clear water beneath, one of the most awe-inspiring settings in the world for a massage.

Crystal and Fantasy Caves

One of the most awe-inspiring views in Bermuda, the Crystal Caves , are a must on any Bermuda vacation. Visitors descend underground to deep, super-clear pools surrounded on all sides by stalagmites and stalactites, an experience to be explored via floating bridges. Tours are given daily; reservations not required.

Gibb's Hill Lighthouse

After a string of shipwrecks on Bermuda's West End, where coral reefs extend 16 miles from shore, construction began on Gibb's Hill Lighthouse in 1844. Because steel was not a viable building material at the time, it was one of the few lighthouses in the world made of cast iron. Today, visitors can climb its 185 steps for unbeatable views of Bermuda's mind-blowing greens and blues.

Horseshoe Bay Beach

Bermuda's beaches are among the main reasons to visit. There are many gorgeous beaches around the island , but the curved Horseshoe Bay Beach is one of the most popular in Bermuda, thanks to its iconic pink sands and azure water. Looking to dive in the magnificent water? Reach out to the folks at Dive Bermuda to schedule a tour.

African Diaspora Heritage Trail

The majority of Bermudians have African ancestry, with many descended from people captured and sold into slavery during the 1700s. Explore the African Diaspora Heritage Trail to learn their history and the legacies they forged in spite of intense persecution. Featured sites include the National Museum of Bermuda , the Bermuda Heritage Museum , Cobbs Hill Methodist Church , and various statues, sculptures, and historic homes.

Lili Bermuda Perfumery

The historic Lili Bermuda Perfumery was established in 1928 and has been sharing Bermuda's story through scent ever since. Complimentary tours of the perfumery, which cover techniques of perfume-making and reveal where and how they age their perfumes, are held daily (except Sundays and public holidays) at 11 a.m. and 3 p.m. No reservation is required. Another fun activity at the perfumery, which provides a taste of the island's British roots, is traditional afternoon tea, held on Wednesday and Sunday afternoons ( reservation required ).

Urban Cottage

Blending both classic and modern, new and vintage, this two-story boutique is one of the most beloved shops in Bermuda: you can find everything from locally made jewelry to items salvaged from shipwrecks to home goods, apparel, and accessories.

Long Story Short

Owned by Bermudian blogger and entrepreneur Kristin White, the gift shop and tour center — which she describes as "my dope emporium of wonderment" — is curated with a focus on social progress, the African Diaspora, women, and environmental sustainability. You'll find everything from books by women of color to planet-friendly home goods here. The store is also home to Salt Spray Soap Co ., a local artisan skincare line, which has an in-house workshop.

Bermuda Craft Market

Even locals can't resist the charm of the Royal Naval Dockyard Craft Market , where you can find local artisan crafts, jewelry, and souvenirs like cigars, rum cake, prints and paintings, and even rum swizzle mix. Situated on Bermuda's West End, the market is located inside a former warehouse and barrel workshop originally constructed in 1831.

Bolero Brasserie

Helmed by chef/owner Jonny Roberts, Bolero's dishes are deceptively simple and surprisingly delicious. The bistro's unassuming entrance down a narrow alley proves looks can be deceiving: it's extremely popular among tourists and locals. Treat yourself to more traditional or vegan tapas, specialty dishes, entrees, and of course, dessert. Outdoor dining is available.

Devil's Isle Cafe

Mingle with locals at Devil's Isle , both a specialty coffee shop with take-out options and a dine-in restaurant serving healthy, nutrition-conscious food. Try a slice of their house-made sourdough for breakfast or their house-made pasta for dinner. Outdoor terrace available; reservations welcome.

Flanagan's Irish Pub

The only traditional Irish pub in Bermuda, Flanagan's serves breakfast, lunch, and dinner and has a variety of beers from around the world. Located near the Hamilton Ferry Terminal, it's a popular spot to kick back on the outdoor second-story patio and enjoy the view. Reservations accepted.

The Swizzle Inn Pub and Restaurant

Home of Bermuda's national cocktail, the rum swizzle, created here in the early 20th century, The Swizzle Inn is Bermuda's oldest pub. (Of course, you can try Bermuda's  unofficial  national drink, the dark 'n' stormy, here too.) Laid-back, casual, and rustic, it's a must-stop on any visit to Bermuda. Outdoor seating is available; no reservations required.

Art Mel's Spicy Dicy

Located off the beaten path near Hamilton, Art Mel's Spicy Dicy is worth the cab ride if you're seeking a Bermudian meal. It's also (arguably) the best place on the island to try Bermuda's famously unique take on the fish sandwich, which consists of a deep-fried fish filet with tartar sauce on raisin toast. Don't knock it till you've tried it.

The best time to visit Bermuda is in March and April when the weather is temperate and the crowds are less intense. Springtime in Bermuda brings one of the world's most beautiful Good Friday traditions, the Bermuda Kite Festival , which fills the skies over Horseshoe Bay Beach with kites in various colors and styles.

Tourist season stretches from May to October when the weather is most balmy and is perfect for those who are looking to hang out on the beach or try some water activities. "There are amazing sites to free dive or snorkel right from the shore," Rachel Sawden, a Bermuda native, free diver, and real estate agent , told T+L. "Elbow Beach has an amazing shipwreck on its eastern side and a stunning reef and cavern network to the west. On the northeastern side of the island, the rocky coastline of Baileys Bay has lots of nooks and crannies that hold an abundance of life, [including] octopi, squid, and some of the largest parrotfish you’ll ever see."

If you're planning on visiting from November to February, don't forget to pack a light sweater — the island can get surprisingly chilly in the fall and winter months.

January sees Bermuda Restaurant Weeks and the annual  Bermuda Triangle Challenge Weekend , where adventurous travelers can participate in events ranging from a mile run to a full marathon.

Harbour Nights is another popular island tradition that begins in April and lasts through early September: on Wednesday nights, the city of Hamilton hosts a pedestrian-only block party with local vendors, artists, activities, and traditional Gombey dancers . Bermuda Carnival takes place each June.

You can get to Bermuda by air or by sea . The L.F. Wade International Airport is located on the island's East End and services many major U.S. airlines, including American Airlines, Delta Air Lines, and JetBlue Airways. This is the fastest and most direct way to reach the island.

Bermuda is an excellent cruise destination and has three ports of call you can roll into, including one in the island's capital, the city of Hamilton. Norwegian Cruise Line, Carnival Cruise Line, Celebrity Cruises, Disney Cruise Line, and Royal Caribbean Cruises all have itineraries that stop in Bermuda.

Three main regions comprise Bermuda's 21 square miles.

East End: Home to the historic town of St. George's, Bermuda's former capital and a UNESCO World Heritage site, the East End is beloved for its history, culture, photo-worthy brick streets, and British colonial architecture. "You can spend hours wandering through the historic alleys, along the winding coast, and walking the same cobble-stoned streets as iconic figures like pilot Jemmy Darrell, one of Bermuda's first King's pilots and one of the first Black property-owners on the island," White told T+L. There are also plenty of natural attractions in addition to the human-made treasures: be sure to check out the limestone formations of Tobacco Bay Beach, Tom Moore's Jungle , the Crystal Caves, Cooper's Island Nature Reserve, and Ferry Reach National Park, home to lush flora and rare birds.

Central Bermuda: Hamilton, the island's capital, lies in Central Bermuda and lends the area its more developed, cosmopolitan, and sophisticated global feel. If you're looking for dining, shopping, and nightlife in Bermuda, the island's more commercialized central section is where you'll find it, especially along Front Street downtown. “Visitors can't get enough of the walking tour of Hamilton that allows them to experience Bermuda beyond the beaches, including the marvelous shopping," Ed Christopher, Bermuda's town crier , told T+L. "They are able to walk through the vibrant and colorful streets of North Hamilton, embracing Bermuda’s history and changes through the years." There are also beaches, botanical gardens, parks, and oceanfront golf.

West End: Here, you'll find the Royal Naval Dockyard (home to a major cruise ship port and a craft market, museum, and restaurants) and attractions like the Gibbs Hill Lighthouse , the village of Somerset, and famous South Shore beaches. It's a hub for sightseeing, shopping, dining, and entertainment.

Buses: Pink-and-blue striped buses connect most areas of interest across the island. Bermuda has 11 bus routes and 14 bus zones. A day pass to visit all bus zones costs $19. You can book transportation passes for one to seven consecutive days as well as a month or a three-month pass. You can also pay per ride in cash, tokens, or with tickets.

Ferries: Public ferry routes aboard the SeaExpress Ferry Service are a popular (and scenic) way to get around the island. All ferries depart from the Ferry Terminal on Front Street in Hamilton. Transportation passes, tickets, and tokens can all be used to pay for the ferry, with prices varying by route.

Taxis: Taxis in Bermuda can provide transportation directly from point A to point B, but some drivers also offer hourly sightseeing tours. All taxis are metered at set rates established by the government. Download Hitch to book a taxi anywhere on the island at any time of day, right from your smartphone.

Car rentals: Car rentals are not available in Bermuda in an effort to curb air pollution, overcrowding, and car accidents. However, you can rent an electric two-seater . Just remember that in Bermuda, motorists drive on the left, and the maximum speed is 21 miles per hour. Scooters and Bicycles: Both scooters and bicycles can be rented from various outfitters around the island. Helmets are required for all riders, and motorized vehicles are only available to those age 18 or older. Rental costs start at around $30 per day. Check out Pedego Electric Bikes , Elbow Beach Cycles , and Oleander Cycles for bike and scooter rentals.

Safety and Security

Crime:  By comparison to the United States, Bermuda has a low to moderate crime rate. Recent crime statistics are available at the official website of the  Bermuda Police Service . Valuables left unattended in public areas, in unsecured hotel rooms, or on rental motorbikes are vulnerable to theft. Criminals have been known to target visitors on motorbikes and at popular tourist attractions, and purse snatchings, perpetrated by thieves riding motorbikes, and muggings have occurred in the past. The back streets of the City of Hamilton have been the setting for assaults, particularly at night after the bars close.

Travelers should exercise caution when walking after dark or visiting out-of-the-way places on the island as they can be vulnerable to theft and assault, and because narrow and dark roadways can contribute to accidents.

Travelers should note the presence of gangs and illegal drug activity in Bermuda. There have been no reports of gang violence targeted towards visitors to Bermuda, although gang-related shooting incidents have occurred and continue to occur throughout the island.

Victims of Crime: U.S. citizen victims of sexual assault are encouraged to contact the U.S. Consulate for assistance.  Report crimes to the local police at 1 (441) 295-0011 and contact the U.S. Consulate at 1 (441) 295-1342.  Remember that local authorities are responsible for investigating and prosecuting crime.

See our webpage on help for U.S. victims of crime overseas .

  • Help you find accommodation and arrange flights home
  • Replace a stolen or lost passport

Domestic Violence:   U.S. citizen victims of domestic violence are encouraged to contact the Consulate for assistance.

Beach Safety: Swimming areas at some popular beaches around Bermuda can have dangerous rip currents, and swimming in the ocean is not the same as swimming in a pool or lake. Wind, waves, the change of the tide, the slope of the beach, and other factors can cause strong currents and difficult swimming conditions to be present in the water even on the calmest days. U.S. citizens have drowned in Bermuda due to these conditions. Only swim when there is a lifeguard present and always remain in sight of them. Do not dive into water of unknown depth. Do not swim alone, especially at isolated beaches. Avoid the consumption of alcohol while swimming.  For more information, please visit Beach and Ocean Safety | American Red Cross .

Tourism: The tourism industry is generally regulated and rules with regards to best practices and safety inspections are regularly enforced.  Hazardous areas/activities are identified with appropriate signage and professional staff is typically on hand in support of organized activities.  In the event of an injury, appropriate medical treatment is widely available throughout the country.  Outside of a major metropolitan center, it may take more time for first responders and medical professionals to stabilize a patient and provide life-saving assistance.  U.S. citizens are encouraged to purchase medical evacuation insurance .

Local Laws & Special Circumstances

Criminal Penalties: You are subject to local laws.  If you violate Bermuda’s laws, even unknowingly, you may be expelled, arrested, or imprisoned.  Individuals establishing a business or practicing a profession that requires additional permits or licensing should seek information from the competent local authorities, prior to practicing or operating a business.

Bermuda Customs routinely boards visiting cruise ships with drug sniffing dogs and will arrest persons found to have any illegal drugs in their cabin. Penalties for possessing, using, or trafficking in illegal drugs in Bermuda are severe, and convicted offenders can expect jail sentences and/or heavy fines. Having a prescription for marijuana or any other drug currently illegal in Bermuda will not protect you from arrest or prosecution for possession of that illegal drug.

Furthermore, some laws are also prosecutable in the United States, regardless of local law. For examples, see our website on crimes against minors abroad and the Department of Justice website.

Arrest Notification:   If you are arrested or detained, ask police or prison officials to notify the U.S. Consulate immediately.  See our webpage for further information.

Special Circumstances: The Department of State warns United States citizens against taking any type of firearm, ammunition or component of a firearm into Bermuda. The Bermuda government strictly enforces its laws restricting the entry of weapons and ammunition. Entering Bermuda with a firearm, some bladed instruments, an ammunition magazine, or even a single round of ammunition is illegal, even if the weapon or ammunition is taken into the country unintentionally. Permission to import or own a gun in Bermuda must be sought in advance from the  Bermuda Police Service . Any privately owned firearms must be secured at Bermuda Police Headquarters. Violations may result in arrest, convictions, and potentially long prison sentences. Pepper sprays and stun guns are considered dangerous weapons in Bermuda and are illegal.

Counterfeit and Pirated Goods: Don’t buy counterfeit and pirated goods, even if they are widely available. Although counterfeit and pirated goods are prevalent in many countries, they may still be illegal according to local laws. You may also pay fines or have to give them up if you bring them back to the United States. See the U.S. Department of Justice website for more information.

  • Faith-Based Travel Information
  • International Religious Freedom Report – see country reports
  • Human Rights Report – see country reports

LGBTQI+ Travelers:   There are no legal restrictions on same-sex sexual relations or the organization of LGBTQI+ events in Bermuda.

See our LGBTQI+ Travel Information page and section 6 of our Human Rights report for further details.

Travelers with Disabilities:   Individuals with disabilities may find accessibility and accommodation very different from what is available in the United States. Bermuda does not currently have legislation on access to transportation, communication, and public buildings for persons with disabilities. Very few hotels would be considered fully compliant with the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA). We recommend you always check with the hotel or property where you will be staying to see if their dimensions for rooms, doors, and bathrooms are ADA-compliant. Outside of the City of Hamilton, sidewalks are generally unavailable or not suitable for wheelchairs. Public ferries are handicap accessible, as are some of the public buses, but most bus stops are not. Handicap accessible taxis are available for hire in Bermuda.

Students:  See our Students Abroad page and FBI travel tips .

Women Travelers:   See our travel tips for Women Travelers .

For emergency services in Bermuda, dial 911.

Ambulance services are widely available, but training and availability of emergency responders may be below U.S. standards.

We do not pay medical bills.  Be aware that U.S. Medicare/Medicaid does not apply overseas. Most hospitals and doctors overseas do not accept U.S. health insurance.

Medical Insurance:  Make sure your health insurance plan provides coverage overseas. Most care providers overseas only accept cash payments. See our webpage for more information on insurance overseas. Visit the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention for more information on type of insurance you should consider before you travel overseas.

We strongly recommend supplemental insurance to cover medical evacuation.

Vaccinations:  Be up-to-date on all vaccinations recommended by the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention.

Air Quality: Visit AirNow Department of State for information on air quality at U.S. Embassies and Consulates.

The U.S. Consulate maintains a list of doctors and hospitals . We do not endorse or recommend any specific medical provider or clinic.

Health facilities in general: Adequate medical care is available for routine procedures, though extremely expensive. The only hospital in Bermuda performs general surgery and has an emergency room and intensive care unit. Serious or complex medical programs will likely require medical evacuation to the United States. Most Bermudian health care providers including the local hospital do not accept overseas insurance and will expect payment at the time of service.

Pharmaceuticals: U.S. prescriptions are not honored in Bermuda.  It will be necessary to visit a Bermuda doctor and have a new prescription written if you need to have it filled in Bermuda. Most common medications are available locally upon presentation of a prescription from a Bermuda doctor.  If you are taking prescription medication, you must inform Bermuda customs officials at the point of entry. Medicines must be in labeled containers, and travelers should carry a copy of the written prescription and a letter from the physician or pharmacist confirming the reason the medicine is prescribed.

Always carry your prescription medication in original packaging, along with your doctor’s prescription. Check with the Ministry of Health to ensure the medication is legal in Bermuda.

Travel and Transportation

Road Conditions and Safety:   Driving on the island is on the left, British-style, and the maximum speed limit is 15 mph in Hamilton and 21 mph on the rest of the island. Under Bermudian law, non-residents are not allowed to own, rent, or drive four-wheeled vehicles, except for a limited number of all electric rental mini cars that hold two passengers. Non-residents must rely on taxis, buses, or rental scooters.

Traffic Laws:   Traffic accidents involving motorbikes are common in Bermuda.  Any U.S. citizen visiting Bermuda who chooses to rent a motorbike or electric mini car should exercise extreme caution on the roadways as road conditions and local driving practices unfamiliar to U.S. drivers could increase the chances of mishap or injury.

Family Adventure: Exploring New York City and Bermuda with JetBlue

Experience an exciting twin destination journey with JetBlue from either London or Edinburgh to the iconic city of New York and the picturesque island of Bermuda. This family-friendly itinerary offers a perfect blend of urban exploration and beachside relaxation, ensuring a memorable vacation for all ages.

  • Family Fun,
  • Itineraries,

A father and daughter are walking along a bridge smiling.

From the bustling streets of NYC to the pristine beaches of Bermuda, create lasting memories as you discover the diverse cultures, attractions, and experiences that will delight the whole family from start to finish.

Jet into NYC with JetBlue

New York City is home to countless activities and opportunities for families with children. No doubt the kids will love seeing the landmarks of the city, famous from so many movies and TV shows. From world-class museums and the playground of Central Park to the Broadway shows and ice-skating at Rockefeller Center, the city has everything you need to make your visit unforgettable for the whole family.

WHERE TO STAY

LUMA Hotel - Times Square is the perfect hub for your family adventure. Being in the thick of the action, you’ll be just walking distance from some top attractions ideal for family adventure.

A CLASSIC DAY IN NEW YORK CITY

Wake up and start your day the right way with a hearty breakfast at Hard Rock Cafe. After breakfast, head to Central Park for a leisurely stroll, a boat ride or a horse and cart journey along the park's scenic trails. Stop by the Central Park Zoo to get involved with the feeding sessions and interactive exhibits. Head out the park on the west side and visit the American Museum of Natural History, where you can marvel at dinosaur skeletons, discover ancient artefacts, and explore the Butterfly Conservatory and the Hayden Planetarium.

Central park with boats.

From there, take the subway down to the Rockefeller Center, where you can take a guided tour of the NBC Studios, visit the Top of the Rock or head out on the ice-rink.

Kids getting hungry? Eat like a New Yorker and grab a hot-dog off before your next adventure. During the afternoon, why not catch a family-friendly matinee performance at Broadway.

For dinner, indulge in classic New York pizza at John's Pizzeria in Times Square or grab a table at Junior's Restaurant for their famous cheesecake. Finally, if the jetlag hasn’t taken its toll on the little ones, take a stroll through Times Square to soak up the bustling atmosphere of the city that never sleeps.

A NEW YORK EXPERIENCE LIKE NO OTHER

Now you’ve rested, it's time to make the most of your last day in the city. Refuel at another family friendly restaurant, Sarabeth's, known for its delicious pancakes and brunch options. With four different locations in NYC, you won’t have to travel far for to find one. Kids will love the LEGO Store, where the whole family can unleash their creativity and build their own lego creations.. From there, take the subway to Hudson Yards and head up to Edge, for an incredible view of the city and for those that dare; climb to the top of the observatory with City Climb!

Exterior view of The Edge in Hudson Yards.

On departing Hudson Yards, take the walk across High Line - an old freight line elevated above the bustling streets of the city. A novel walk with plenty of areas to take a seat and enjoy the calmness above ground. Head down from the High Line next to Little Island - a public park just over the Hudson River, where kids can play with the interactive exhibits and enjoy the urban oasis away from the traffic of the city.

From there, check out the exhibitions at the nearby Whitney Museum of American Art, where you’re sure to find art installations and exhibits which get the little ones'minds ticking.

Next on the list, walk across to Chelsea Market for lunch, the giant food hall where there will be no disagreement over cuisine, as everyone is bound to find something to satisfy their cravings.

Walk four blocks and you’ll find yourself in Union Square. The young ones might want to take to the playground, whilst the adults explore the year-round farmers market with seasonal produce from fruit and veg stalls, fishmongers and bakers.

From there, head up to Midtown and treat the kids to Dylan's Candy Bar, a whimsical candy store where you can satisfy any sweet tooth with a wide selection of candies, chocolates, and treats. To top off the day, enjoy dinner at Carmine's, a family-style Italian restaurant offering hearty dishes that are perfect for sharing with your loved ones.

Find Yourself in Bermuda: 3-Day Itinerary

Experience the perfect blend of resort luxuries and adventures in nature, resulting in the perfect island getaway with the family. This three-day itinerary is exciting for children of all ages and some special treats for adults.

Embrace the allure of the all-inclusive Grotto Bay Beach Resort and Spa , which is well-known for being a family favourite. The children can enjoy a variety of swim spots, including a pool, beach, and a natural cave pool! The whole family can enjoy daily activities like feeding the fish or renting equipment from the water sports centre on the property.

Aerial view of the pool at Grotto Bay Resort.

Another fantastic option is Cambridge Beaches , a stunning property offering a serene ambiance and plenty of ways for the children to have fun. With pools, private beaches, water activities, tennis courts, and more, your family will never be short of things to do at the hotel. As a bonus, it is located on a safe peninsula, so older children can even enjoy the freedom of roaming around the 23-acre property.

GET ACQUAINTED WITH ISLAND LIFE

Thanks to an early arrival, you have a full day ahead, wasting no time offloading your luggage upon check-in and exploring your new fresh-air environment at the resort. If staying at Grotto Bay, you are less than a 5-minute drive from the airport. Cambridge Beaches is located on the island's West End , and although a longer drive, it is scenic and a great chance to familiarise yourself with the island’s landscape.

For those at Grotto Bay, take a short walk to the famous Swizzle Inn , Bermuda’s oldest pub. Originators of the legendary Rum Swizzle (a most deserved signature cocktail for the parents), enjoy the interestingly decorated cottage-styled restaurant full of fun and flair.

A family is eating at the Swizzle In.

After lunch, feel free to hop on the “pink and blue” public bus that will whisk the family to the island's eastern end, St. George’s. It’s here you’ll be transported back in time and discover the history of this UNESCO World Heritage Site. Venture through the Old Towne and stumble upon narrowly jaded brick roads, charming century-old buildings, The Unfinished Church , and Fort St. Catherine . Before heading back, cool off at Tobacco Bay or if you prefer a more secluded experience, grab a taxi that will take you to the refreshing waters and powdery sand surrounding Clearwater Beach and Cooper’s Island Nature Reserve .

If you have made your way West to Cambridge Beaches, it is worth spending the afternoon exploring the resort restaurant options, walking the beach, and checking out the water sports activities available. You can also wander in Somerset Village or catch the bus to Dockyard, where you can find plenty of fun family activities like Fun Golf and the National Museum of Bermuda .

NATURE AT ITS BEST

Your early risers might appreciate “island time” as they start the day watching the sun pour over the horizon from their balcony. For adventure seekers, head to Walsingham Nature Reserve & Blue Hole Park , a 12-acre natural wonderland. Enjoy walking along the woodland trails under a dense canopy of trees, lush vegetation, and nearby deep, crystal-clear pools. You may feel you've left the “concrete jungle” and are exploring a real-life jungle paradise.

You can safely wander the grounds and trails without a guide and feel free to feel lost in the 12-acre wonderland truly. Bermuda does not have any dangerous animals to worry about, and during the weekdays, when the locals are at work, you will find that you have the trails to yourself.

After a good exploration, head to the Crystal Caves and watch your children’s eyes light up as they are filled with the mystical wonders of these underground natural wonders. These otherworldly caves were discovered in 1905 by young boys who lost their cricket ball. They continue to showcase breathtaking experiences for all who go to gaze over the spectacular limestone formations and surrounding stalactites. Rain or shine, you can’t go wrong with a visit to the largest and most famous cave system in Bermuda.

Crystal Caves of Bermuda – Crystal Caves

If that’s not enough to tire your busy bodies, the island is riddled with neighbouring Railway Trails for a brisk burst or leisurely walk.

MAKE A SPLASH

Set your sights on a day filled with water and marine life. Start with a quick breakfast from the Hibiscus Dining Room, then head off to the Bermuda Aquarium, Museum, and Zoo in the picturesque Flatt’s Village. Marginally more diminutive than the Central Park Zoo, the size will not disappoint as you get up close and personal with reef sharks, tropical fish, pootling rays, seals, and flamingos. The kids will love the interactive displays and touch pools.

A family at the zoo in Bermuda

Now, if you prefer a more daring approach to the island’s marine life, Hartley’s Helmet Dive , located at the western end of the island, will give you a more in-depth look 2 miles offshore, where you will be submerged 8-10 feet near just one of the island’s many surrounding shipwrecks. The fantastic part about this experience is how close you get to marine life, even being able to hold some of the ‘celebrity fish.’ While not for the faint-hearted, this activity will make you think marine biology doesn’t sound like a wrong choice for a career change.

Spend the rest of the day in the Royal Naval Dockyard . With its rich maritime history, this lively port, home to visiting cruise ships, is filled with many local attractions, sightseeing, entertainment, and restaurants. Grab a bite on the patio at Bone Fish Bar & Grill and enjoy the jovial atmosphere as you soak up your final sights of scenic water views.

Itineraries

Highlights of a new york to bermuda cruise, natural beauty.

Explore Bermuda’s stunning pink and pale gold beaches and shimmering aquamarine sea. Reefs around the island are home to colorful marine species, from angelfish to spotted eagle rays and graceful sea turtles. On land, immerse yourself in nature by hiking or biking the verdant Bermuda Railway Trail. Or head deep underground to the million-year-old Crystal Cave and Fantasy Cave, which drip with stalactites and conceal underground lakes and sparkling minerals like frozen waterfalls.

Food & Drink

Bermuda has a rich cuisine that makes the most of the ocean's bounty. Fish chowder is the national dish, packed with tomatoes, green peppers, and onions, and laced with black rum and the island’s famous sherry pepper sauce. Try wahoo sandwiches, piled with coleslaw and hot sauce, codfish cakes, and rich, creamy conch stew. Bermuda is a cocktail heaven; try Gosling’s Dark ‘n’ Stormy, made of dark rum and ginger beer over ice, and the fruity Rum Swizzle.

Watersports

Admire the island from the water on a romantic catamaran trip at sunset, sipping a Rum Swizzle as the sky turns fiery pink. Kayak in glass-clear waters along the rugged coastline, or learn about the Bermuda Triangle on a snorkel tour to the Constellation and Montana wrecks. For something different, try an evening cocktail cruise aboard a glass-bottomed boat. As the sun sets, your captain will switch on underwater lights, illuminating the reef and nocturnal marine life below.

You can't visit Bermuda without tasting Gosling's Black Seal Rum. And luckily, it's a main ingredient in a ton of Bermuda favorites. Taste it in a cocktail form in the signature Dark 'n' Stormy or Rum Swizzle, or enjoy it as a key ingredient in the famous Bermuda fish chowder, a tomato broth-based stew of white fish and plenty of warming spices.

The tastes of that signature fish chowder take on new life in the form of a fish croquette, a fried, ball-shaped fritter that incorporates white fish and spices. Man dies after setting himself on fire near Trump trial courthouse in NYC

By Graham Kates , Pat Milton , Jericka Duncan

Updated on: April 20, 2024 / 8:38 PM EDT / CBS News

A man who set himself on fire outside the New York City courthouse where former President Donald Trump's hush money trial is underway has died, police said.

Witnesses said that they saw the man — identified by the New York Police Department as 37-year-old Max Azzarello — pour liquid over his head and set himself on fire at 1:39 p.m. local time on Friday.

In a briefing immediately after the incident, the NYPD said Azzarello, a Florida resident who had arrived in New York City earlier in the week, walked into Collect Pond Park, opened a book bag, and scattered papers and pamphlets on the ground before setting himself ablaze. Police described the materials as "like a conspiracy-theory type of pamphlet."

Azzarello then fell on a police barrier. Civilians and court officers used coats and extinguishers to try to put out the fire, the NYPD said, and the New York City Fire Department responded, finally extinguishing the fire.

A police officer uses a fire extinguisher as emergency personnel respond to a fire outside the courthouse where former President Donald Trump's "hush money" trial is underway in New York, April 19, 2024.

The FDNY said that Azzarello was transported to New York Presbyterian-Weill Cornell Medical Center, which has a burn center, in critical condition.

The NYPD confirmed to CBS News overnight that Azzarello had died on Friday night.

Four officers who responded to the fire suffered minor injuries.

Azzarello had posted a statement on social media, officials said. Although the incident took place close to the court where Trump's trial is taking place, officials said Azzarello did not appear to be targeting any particular person or group and added that he seemed to be a conspiracy theorist.

One witness described pamphlets that Azzarello threw, apparently while making allegations about New York University.

"I heard this clattering, and it was those papers that he had flung up in the air," the witness said. "That caught our attention and — caught my attention, anyway ... then he pulled out a can and he poured it over himself. And at that point, I thought, 'Oh ... this is gonna be awful."

"It happened so fast — what do you do?" another witness said.

Great. Loved that there was WiFi on flight to keep in touch and excellent service of beverages and snacks.

Flew business class. Everything was excellent. No issues at all. Not very many “good” movies to choose from. But lots of mediocre ones

great flight. Pilot was communicative, flight attendants were excellent. Really nice experience except my tv didn’t work.

The best experience that I have had traveling with JetBlue!

Overall, the flight was better than the flight I took to go to Florida, which had a bunch of problems. The crew is really nice and the plane was new so it had a small problem when we were on the runway, but the flight itself was great. They even made some time back up, which is always a good thing.

Crew was just ok. Flight was packed. On a 3/4 hour flight I would hope they would come around more than once to see if you needed anything further. Not very attentive.

After 14 hour delaybwith departure time changed 9 times then announcing the flight was canceled. Another later announcement said the cancelation was in error. Also after paying a higher fare to leave in the afternoon then departing at 4am was not right.

I cannot say this enough, I NEVER BOARDED OR HAVE HAD ANY TRAVEL IN THE PAST YEAR. However your app says ive been traveling a lot lately. GET REAL HUMANS TO GIVE CUSTOMER SUPPORT.

Everything was good except for deplaning in NY. Took way too long!!

Jet Blue keeps getting iit wrong. 4 hour mechanical delay followed by terrible boarding experience. This is my third horrific jet blue flight in 2024. I am going to try to avoid this loser in the sky

These airlines have taken a nosedive when it comes to punctuality.

A new report reveals which US flyers are putting up with the most delays and cancellations at a time when air travel is already chaotic .

Studying 2023 data from the Bureau of Transportation Statistics, NerdWallet calculated 10 airlines’ on-time arrival rates.

The analysis comes as the federal Department of Transportation announced that airlines must instantly give full cash refunds to passengers booked on canceled flights .

Arriving in last place is Frontier Airlines, which has only a 67% on-time record. The airline also had 30.71% of its flights delayed and 2.13% canceled.

Coasting narrowly above is JetBlue, ranked by the Wall Street Journal as the nation’s worst airline last year, due to struggles with on-time performance, delays, and signal issues at airports in the New York area. JetBlue had only a 67% on-time rate, with 30.4% delays and 2.1% cancellations.

Frontier Airlines had the worst on time record last year of American air carriers.

Spirit Airlines placed seventh with an on-time percentage of 69.51%, 28.59% delays, and 1.7% cancellations.

Hawaiian Airlines came in sixth with 75.2% of its flights arriving on time, 23.41% delayed, and 1.3% canceled.

The top five starts with American Airlines and a 75.94% on-time record. Still, 22.74% of its flights experienced delays, and 1.06% were canceled.

Southwest Airlines soared into fourth place with 77.25% of timely flights. The airline had 21.55% delayed flights and an even 1% canceled.

JetBlue also tanked in the rankings.

United Airlines, which has seen a spate of mishaps in recent weeks, boasts a bronze medal for a 78.07% on-time record, with 20.27% delays and 1.4% cancellations.

In second place is the also embattled Alaska Airlines with 79.48% timeliness. It had 19.42% of its flights delayed and only 0.81% canceled.

Delta Air Lines took the cake at No. 1 with 82.61% on-time flights, 16.17% delays, and 1.02% of flights canceled.

Delta’s regional affiliate, SkyWest Airlines, also topped outside competitors with an 82.46% on-time showing, plus 16.01% delayed flights and 1.22% canceled.

When it comes to delays and cancellations, NerdWallet advises travelers to book the first flight of the day because the plane is already at the airport. Flights coming late from other destinations accounted for 7.38% of delays last year.

Avoiding connecting flights, which could be delayed, is another tactic — book non-stop flights when you can. And selecting an airline that flies your route several times per day is one way to mitigate damage from canceled flights, as you’ll likely be able to fly within the same day, NerdWallet recommends.

A new ranking broke down the airlines with the most delays and cancellations.

The most on-time US airlines for 2023

  • Alaska Airlines
  • United Airlines
  • Southwest Airlines
  • American Airlines

Coming to Alabama: Newsom’s Abortion-Access Ad, Depicting an Arrest

The ad portrays a woman trying to leave the state to have an abortion. The Campaign for Democracy, a political action committee started by Mr. Newsom, the California governor, created it.

A law enforcement officer holding a pregnancy test while conducting a traffic stop with a female motorist.

By Neil Vigdor

  • April 21, 2024

A woman nervously peers into her rearview mirror as a patrolman activates his car’s lights and sirens. She is less than a mile from leaving Alabama to seek abortion services, but it’s too late: The next thing she knows, she is being handed a pregnancy test and is handcuffed.

The encounter is depicted in an unvarnished new television ad called “Fugitive.” The Campaign for Democracy, a political action committee created by Gov. Gavin Newsom, Democrat of California, produced the ad.

It will appear on Monday in Alabama, where Republicans have called for prosecuting women who travel elsewhere for an abortion. The state’s abortion ban, one of the nation’s strictest, outlaws the procedure at all stages of pregnancy, with no exceptions for rape and incest.

“Trump Republicans want to criminalize young Alabama women who travel for reproductive care,” the ad’s narrator says.

The ad then shows the patrolman approaching the vehicle: “Miss, I’m going to need you to step out of the vehicle,” he says, tapping the kit on the driver’s side door, “take a pregnancy test.”

The ad is scheduled to run on broadcast and cable television, along with digital platforms like YouTube, for two weeks, according to the PAC. The cost of the ad buy was not immediately available.

Alabama’s attorney general, Steve Marshall, a Republican, has clashed with the Justice Department and abortion assistance providers over whether the state has the authority to prosecute individuals or groups that help women leave the state to have the procedure.

Last month, Republicans introduced a bill in the Alabama House that would make it a misdemeanor to harbor or transport a minor to seek abortion services.

Mr. Newsom has emerged as a key surrogate for President Biden while harboring future White House ambitions of his own. He has regularly skirmished with G.O.P. governors and Republican-led states over abortion access, immigration, crime and other issues.

While Republicans have seized on crossings at the southern border in their messaging, Democrats have harnessed the issue of abortion-access after the U.S. Supreme Court overturned Roe v. Wade in 2022. It helped propel Democratic candidates to key victories during the midterm elections in 2022 and in races last year.

In February, the Alabama Supreme Court ruled that frozen embryos were people with rights, casting a cloud of uncertainty over in vitro fertilization. The state later passed a law giving I.V.F. clinics criminal and civil immunity, but it did not address whether embryos have the legal status of human beings.

In another seismic ruling, the Arizona Supreme Court this month upheld an 1864 law that bans nearly all abortions. The decision could have far-reaching consequences for women’s health care and election-year politics in the state, a critical political battleground.

Mr. Newsom said in a social media post at the time that California, which borders Arizona, would provide a refuge for women affected by the decision.

“Arizona wasn’t even a state — it was a territory — when this draconian abortion ban was passed,” he said. “That’s how extreme this is. California remains ready to help Arizonans access reproductive health care.”

In this first ever announcement of MICHELIN Keys in the United States, hotels in Atlanta, California, Chicago, Colorado, Florida, New York, and Washington DC were eligible for the distinction. This announcement of the most outstanding hotels in the country comes four years into a comprehensive refresh of our hotel selection. The MICHELIN Guide now includes over 5,000 hotels across the world, and not a single one is simply a room for the night. These are places that significantly add to your experience as a traveler, each vetted and judged excellent in five categories: architecture and interior design, quality and consistency of service, overall personality and character, value for the price, and a significant contribution to the guest experience in a particular setting. Like the MICHELIN Stars for restaurants, the MICHELIN Keys are our most outstanding hotels. Our French Keys bask in the tradition of ancient vineyards, stone chateaus, and historic palaces. In the United States, we see a different tradition. In Los Angeles, places like Chateau Marmont , the Paramour Estate , Sunset Tower , and the Charlie date back to guests and residents as illustrious as Clark Gable and Marilyn Monroe. These are spaces that play ingeniously with their history, even as they forge ahead with cutting-edge amenities and experiences. But it’s not just California. New York’s historic artist hotspot, the Hotel Chelsea , once hosted Bob Dylan and Andy Warhol. Today, it decorates every space with art donated by former residents. Look too to the Chicago Athletic Association , a former member’s club for 20th century business magnates and athletes — now among the city’s most impressive and vibrant hotels.
