Heralded as the UK’s answer to Blink-182, Busted became one of the most iconic pop-rock bands of the noughties. Their debut self-titled album released in 2002 featured some of their biggest hits “Year 3000”, “You Said No” and their debut single “What I Go To School For”. Going onto win several accolades including Favourite Newcomer at the National Music Awards and a few BRIT awards saw Busted reach new heights as they released their follow-up album “A Present For Everyone” which went triple platinum in the UK. Their successes continued growing with every single released reaching the top 3 in the UK charts accumulating a number of eight- seriously impressive! With their teenage appeal and emulating a rebellious nature, it’s no wonder that they attracted thousands of adoring fans to their live performances. Opening with classics like “Air Hostess” sees the trio of Matt Willis, Charlie Simpson and James Bourne air jumping as they run across the stage, surrounded by a chorus of screams. Their energy is infectious as the crowd jump up and down, waving their arms in the air to “What I Go To School For” singing along word for word. Their tongue-in-cheek lyrics feed into their banter with the crowd, mirrored by some of the banners that audience wave emphatically. “Year 3000” sends the crowd wild, as the bright lights dart across the stage. “Crashed The Wedding” sees energy levels soar through the roof while ballads like “Sleeping With The Light On” slowing down them temple equally sees the biggest reaction, as the audience sway their arms in the air with the camera lights in the air. If you came to be entertained, Busted will definitely make sure you have a good time.

okay so when busted announced they were getting back together i was SO happy, the band that made my childhood and the very same band of who no one, including the band themselves, thought would ever get back together and not gonna lie, I'd liked fightstar and Charlie's solo stuff but they were all different and I liked them all in their own way but busted would always have a special part in my heart as my first loves. Anyway, we bought our tickets etc etc and the day finally came, we went and had a meal over at centertainment when

Amazing performance. Lots of energy and love from Charlie, Matt and James. The new tracks they played from the currently unreleased new album were out of this world! I loved every second of it, I was part of the Pigsty Which was ablsolutly isane to see all those people in the crowd and have a different perspective of a gig was a once in a lifetime opportunity. Charlie looks especially happy to be back he was extremely happy and energetic throughout. The lads gave great vocals and played well all night. Very much enjoyed it. Cant wait to see them next time!

After Busted split up I was devastated and when u heard they were having a reunion tour I just knew I had to go! After gettin to see McBusted which had James and Matt this was even better! Play all of the classic songs and I never sat down once. Support acts were great and was an amazing atmosphere. Such funny, talented and down to earth lads. Music sounds even better live. All busted fans must see them!

I've been waiting to see them live for the best part of 18 years and the day before my 21st I finally got to see them.

Best show of my life and I've been to well over 150 gigs in the past 2 years.

Professor Green didn't suit the lineup at all and didn't gain much of a crowd.

Scouting For Girls however were a perfect opening act. Massive crowd with everyone singing along. Brilliant.

Amazing concert, nice to hear the old and new song. Duration was a little short. The band played with the audience to entertain us. Stage was fine, lights were good. I missed the opportunity to shake hands and ask for autographs of the band (there were no VIP tickets)

busted band tour

Busted is back, ITV News' Faye Barker reports

Boyband Busted has announced a comeback tour to celebrate their 20th anniversary.

The British trio, comprised of Masked Singer winner Charlie Simpson and bandmates James Bourne and Matt Willis, have announced 15 tour dates across the UK to mark their 20th anniversary.

The Year 3000 band also announced a new single called Loser Kid 2.0 featuring Simple Plan which will be released in April.

American pop band Hanson, best known for their 1997 hit MMMBop, will join the trio on tour.

In a video posted to Instagram on Thursday morning, Bourne said: "A decade is a long time. Two decades is an even longer time."

The clip showed footage from the band's past music videos including Air Hostess, You Said No, and What I Go to School For.

"We were writing songs that made us laugh and the songs that made us laugh made other people laugh and feel good," Bourne said.

He added that they have that "special feeling - like it's Busted time".

Simpson, who later went on to front rock band Fightstar, said Busted "really broke the mould" when they started making music in 2000.

"It's about celebrating what Busted meant to the fans and it's about us being able to go out and share that experience with them," Simpson said.

Thousands of fans responded to the teaser expressing their hopes for an album, tour, or single.

Thankfully fans didn't have to wait long until their hopes were confirmed on Thursday.

Event Details

Busted have announced that they will be celebrating their 20 th anniversary with an arena tour which is heading to The O2 on 10, 27 September and 10 October 2023. The band will be joined by special guests Hanson and The Tyne.

Impossible though it may seem, it’s been twenty years since Busted bounced into the charts with the irrepressible pop-punk energy of their debut single ‘What I Go To School For’ . It kickstarted a succession of hits for the trio, including the #1 smashes ‘Crashed The Wedding’, ‘Who’s David’ , ‘Thunderbirds Are Go’, ‘You Said No’ and the Top 3 singles ‘Year 3000’ , ‘Air Hostess’ and ‘Sleeping WIth The Light On’. Now Busted celebrate their 20th anniversary by announcing details of a major UK arena tour, alongside a series of new versions of fifteen of their classic hits to be released in the build-up, with some very special guests

The tour will see the original much-loved trio - James Bourne, Charlie Simpson and Matt Willis - play their hits and fan-favourites this September. The first track to launch the 20 th anniversary celebrations will be a new version of Busted’s song ‘Loser Kid’ featuring Simple Plan, which will be released on 14 April. Loser Kid featured as the final track on their self-titled debut album and was co-written by Bourne, Simpson and Willis.

Busted’s many successes spread far beyond the singles charts. Three of their four studio albums also peaked at #2, with 4.5 million sales leading to eight Platinum certifications as well as a total of 25 weeks in the Top 10 and two 5x Platinum selling albums. They have won two BRIT Awards - Best Pop Act and Best British Breakthrough - while multiple sold-out arena tours have seen them sell more than 2 million tickets.

Busted’s 20th anniversary tour follows Charlie Simpson’s recent triumph as the winner of 2023’s ’The Masked Singer’, adding to his other projects which have included four solo albums and four albums with the rock band Fightstar. James Bourne is a renowned songwriter, with credits including McFly, The Jonas Brothers, 5 Seconds of Summer and The Vamps, as well as his band Son of Dork and two recent solo albums ‘Safe Journey Home’ (2020) and ‘Sugar Beach’ (2022). After releasing his debut solo album, Matt Willis famously won ‘I’m A Celebrity… Get Me Out Of Here’ leading to a successful television career as well as acting roles which have included the recent West End hit ‘2:22 A Ghost Story’.

NEWS... BUT NOT AS YOU KNOW IT

Busted announce return with massive UK arena tour and reworks of hit songs to celebrate more than 20 years since debut

author image

busted

It’s official – Busted are back, and they’re bringing new songs and a massive UK tour with them.

The iconic three-piece ruled the airwaves in the early noughties with earworms including Year 3000, Air Hostess and What I Go To School For.

It’s somehow been more than 20 years since Busted – comprising vocalists Charlie Simpson, James Bourne and Matt Willis, all 39 – burst onto the scene, and they have something very special ahead to celebrate.

Fans had already become convinced the Who’s David stars had something major planned , with the official Busted social media pages updating their banners to include the date March 23.

Well, it is now March 23, and it has been revealed Busted are coming back for a massive 15-date UK arena tour, kicking off in September and with tickets going on sale next week.

The tour will see James, Charlie and Matt perform their biggest hits along with fan favourites (hello, Nerdy and 3am) with support from Mmmbop stars Hanson and New Hope Club.

Busted

That’s not all: the group are preparing to release no fewer than 15 songs.

Rather than brand new tracks, Busted have created reworks of some of their most iconic songs and will perform them alongside some other major names from the scene.

The first release is a new version of Loser Kid, from Busted’s debut album; the track will hit airwaves on April 14 and will feature pop rock stars Simple Plan.

Other upcoming singles will have special guests McFly, All Time Low and more, with names to be released at a later date.

Busted 20th anniversary tour dates

September 2 – Plymouth, Pavilions September 3 – Cardiff, International Arena September 5 – Swansea, Arena September 6 – Bournemouth, BIC September 7 – Brighton, Centre September 9 – Birmingham, Utilita Arena September 10 – London, The O2 September 12 – Bridlington, Spa September 15 – Nottingham, Motorpoint Arena September 16 – Newcastle, Utilita Arena September 17- Leeds, First Direct Arena September 19 – Aberdeen, P&J Live September 20 – Glasgow, OVO Hydro September 22 – Liverpool, M&S Bank Arena September 24 – Manchester, AO Arena

Tickets for the tour will go on general sale at 9am on March 31, however fans who sign up to Busted’s mailing list will receive access to a pre-sale from 9am on March 29.

Rumours of a comeback for the group have circulated since Fightstar musician Charlie hinted to Lorraine Kelly ‘ there may be some plans ’ for a reunion.

‘It is the 20 year anniversary for Busted this year,’ he added.

‘Sworn to secrecy again… but there may be some stuff in the pipeline.’

Busted were first formed in 2000 and released their first, self-titled album in 2002, before their 2003 album A Present For Everyone threw them into even wider fame.

Their split in 2005 devastated fans, with many remembering genuine tears in the playground the day the news was announced; all three went on to form solo careers or front new bands.

Busted returned – in a way – in 2013, when Matt and James teamed up with McFly for supergroup McBusted, and Charlie finally returned in 2015, completing the original lineup.

7 Best Moments From Phish’s Las Vegas Sphere Residency Kick-Off

Phish performs at Sphere.

On Thursday night (April 18), for the first time, a band not named U2 performed at the Las Vegas Sphere. Phish shares some traits with the Irish group – both are quartets with decades-long histories of concert production experimentation who remain major live draws – but the revered Vermont jam band still had something to prove as it kicked off a four-night run at the cutting-edge Sin City venue : How would an act known for its exploratory improvisation navigate a daunting visual space that on its face might seem more suited for tightly planned productions like U2:UV Achtung Baby Live at Sphere , which remained relatively static throughout its 40-show run?

The answer was straightforward. Phish was Phish. Across three-and-a-half hours and two sets of music, singer-guitarist Trey Anastasio, bassist Mike Gordon, keyboardist Page McConnell, and drummer Jon Fishman seemed relatively unphased by the eye-popping animations darting across the 160,000-square-foot Sphere screen above them – at least, other than when Anastasio remarked to the crowd halfway through Phish’s first set that they “should see it this way, it’s pretty cool!” – and instead focused on delivering quality versions of jam vehicles old (“Tweezer”) and new (“Life Saving Gun”).

Of course, fans in attendance had much more to process than at a normal Phish show. Each of the setlist’s 18 songs featured a different animation, ranging from kooky graphics to abstract patterns, and Sphere Immersive Sound rendered the band’s audio in new, novel ways. An audio recording might sound like another present-day Phish show; the sensory experience in the room was anything but.

Still, as Abigail Rosen Holmes, the co-creative director for Phish’s Sphere shows, told Billboard earlier this week, “We’re going to use all of the opportunities of this building – the audio, the visuals – and do it while supporting Phish truly playing music the way Phish plays music.” Phish’s first Sphere show largely accomplished that, pushing boundaries without letting that interfere with the music-making at hand.

Billboard was on the scene, and we’ve rounded up the best moments below.

Phish Assures Fans That "Everything's Right"

Since Phish announced its Sphere shows last November, fans had wondered how the band – known to sometimes nod to key dates and places when it performs – would kick off the run. Would it cheekily acknowledge the space with a song like “Bouncing Around The Room” or, even more fittingly, the title track of its 2002 album Round Room ?

Instead, Phish opened the night with “Everything’s Right,” an uplifting tune about taking it one day at a time that’s become a staple and reliable jam vehicle for the band since its 2017 debut. It was a savvy thematic pick. Phish has played many of the same venues regularly since the ’90s, and fans feel comfortable at them; a slight uneasiness hung in the air before showtime Thursday, as attendees figured out where Sphere’s bathrooms were and which beer lines were quickest. With “Everything’s Right,” the band assured them that – even as towering rectangular prisms sprouted on the screen behind them – this was a normal Phish show.

Chris Kuroda's Economical Lighting Rig

Phish lighting designer Chris Kuroda has worked with the band since 1989. His elaborate lighting rig – and the improvisational way he uses it to “jam” with the band – is the stuff of Phish legend. But, as Holmes told Billboard , “the amazing rig that he has on tour was not a good fit into this building.” With the help of Moment Factory, the Montreal-based multimedia studio that helped conceive Phish’s Sphere shows, Kuroda scaled back his lighting setup to six pillars (three on either side of the band) and four horizontal strips running across the back of the stage behind the band.

By nature, Kuroda’s lights occupied more of a supporting role at the Sphere show than a typical Phish gig. But they usefully framed the band itself and ratcheted up the drama during the climaxes of “Life Saving Gun” and “Tweezer,” two of the show’s best jams.

The Balloons Take Flight

Occassionally, physical elements feature prominently in Phish shows. Moment Factory worked with the band to deploy drone-powered whales and dolphins in Madison Square Garden on Earth Day 2022, and this past New Year’s Eve, Phish brought its song cycle about the mythical realm of Gamehendge to life with Broadway-caliber stagecraft. The sole such example Thursday night came during “Leaves,” a ballad the band performed midway through the first set. As Sphere’s screen shifting to a starry night sky, Phish’s crew released more than a dozen massive, lantern-like balloons that floated upward – and were retracted by the song’s end. Beyond their momentary beauty, the balloons suggested that more physical props might make appearances as Phish’s Sphere run progresses.

"Sand" Sparks a Titanic Second Set

Phish took little time to get back into its groove following set break, launching immediately into a 19-minute version of the brooding “Sand,” powered as always by Gordon’s chugging bass line. As the song’s jam blossomed, rich band interplay wasn’t the only highlight – countless tiny pinpoints of light dotted Sphere’s screen, oozing together and apart, evoking the track’s titular substance. Well into the jam, Fishman switched up his drumming and Kuroda’s rig twinkled with orange lights. While the visual design was less flashy than other parts of the show, it perfectly meshed with the music and lights, forming the sort of holistic audio-visual experience the Phish – and its audience – wanted.

Sphere Immersive Sound Steals The Show

While the sound Thursday night wasn’t flawless – during set break, some fans groused on the concourse that the audio early in the first set was imbalanced – it was largely a revelation. Throughout the show, every instrument had remarkable clarity: Gordon’s bass easily sliced through the mix, while McConnell’s keyboard flourishes danced around the venue’s periphery. And when the band got particularly cacophonous – as it did during the climax of first-set closer “Carini” – Sphere’s advanced soundsystem conveyed the audio with clear precision. The result: One of the best-sounding Phish shows ever (a distinction that may well be surpassed each of the next three nights, as the band and its team become even more familiar with the technology).

"My Friend," Simplicity

Thursday night’s greatest visual trick just might’ve been its simplest. Three hours after first taking the stage, as a 25-minute “Tweezer” trailed off into abstraction, Phish began playing the ominous early ’90s cut “My Friend, My Friend” – and cut the visuals completely. In their place, a single, rotating spotlight cast each band member in silhouette. Then, a duplicate of the silhoutte appeared on the screen above the semi-circular stage. And then, with little warning, the silhouette was replicated dozens of times as menacing wallpaper across Sphere’s screen, just as the venue was bathed in blood-red lighting. It was a lesson in contrast and scale – and a way of inverting one of Sphere’s strongest technical assets for powerful artistic effect.

Sphere Becomes A Farmhouse

Anastasio busted out an acoustic guitar so Phish could encore with “Farmhouse,” the decidedly rustic title track of its 2000 studio album. Gone were the abstract illustrations on Sphere’s screen, replaced with a starry night sky, forest treeline, wood cabin, and twinkling northern lights. (“I never ever saw the northern lights,” the song’s chorus goes.) In an instant, the most advanced concert venue on the planet transported its attendees from Sin City to rural Vermont and the great outdoors.

Bruce Springsteen and E Street Band alive and well in 3-plus hours of thunderous hits

busted band tour

The pent-up demand for Bruce Springsteen and his E Street Band had put ardent fans on edge.

Would the Boss' energy be the same after the rocker was forced to cancel last year's show in March due to illness and then a rescheduled performance in September due to a peptic ulcer?

Did the 74-year-old still have the stamina to navigate a stage for more than three hours? To gyrate with his guitar and hit the high notes of ballads and rock classics? To remember the lyrics as he's done for more than four decades in over 1,300 concerts with the band?

The answer, from about 20,000 devotees at Sunday's concert at Nationwide Arena, was a resounding, deafening "Yes." It was the band's first show in Columbus since 2016.

The tone was set in the opening bars of "Youngstown," a nod to the Rust Belt factories that build the weaponry "that won this country's wars," but then died off to leave empty shells and unemployment. A searing guitar solo by Nils Lofgren infused the song with powerful shards of despair.

And like the canon blast after a Columbus Blue Jackets' goal, "Lonesome Days" followed, with a jarring rim shot by drummer Max Weinberg, a percussive human metronome throughout the sell-out concert that lasted about three hours and 10 minutes.

Springsteen, in a short-sleeve denim shirt, black vest and purple tie, appeared to relish the arena crowd. With eyes often closed, he channeled deeply personal songs like "The Promised Land," The Rising," and "Ghosts."

His grimacing was not from bad joints, but during his guitar solos, thrashing the strings during extended versions of favorites such as "Streets of Fire."

He didn't pause much between songs, often exchanging one guitar for another by tossing it to a stagehand, as Weinberg continued to strafe the crowd with nonstop rhythmic transitions.

During "Spirit in the Night," Springsteen graciously walked behind the stage to focus on those seated behind the band, sauntering at times for effect.

He ended up in front, resting his legs on the edge of the stage and his back against saxophonist Jake Clemons, whose uncle Clarence Clemons, also a sax player, was one of Springsteen's closest friends.

While mortality and distant youth were themes that may have resonated with the older crowd, many of whom were in high school or college when Springsteen blasted into stardom in the late 1970s and early '80s, there were also some younger fans.

Michelle Grinestaff and her husband, Jared Schuetter, brought their daughters, Claudia, 14, and Vivian, 12, both of whom had memorized many of Bruce's hits.

"She's been playing Springsteen their entire lives," said Schuetter of his wife.

Grinestaff's attraction followed her father Jerry's, a rabid fan who, two years ago died of pulmonary fibrosis. The night before his passing, she told him she really wanted him to come to last year's concert with the girls. "He said to just make sure you have a good time," she recalled, halting to wipe a tear.

She vividly recalls that Springsteen's "Racing in the Street" was playing while to spoke to her dad. She hoped she'd hear it Sunday night.

Sure enough, the concert's 19th song, "Racing in the Street," was a beautiful rendition of love, loss and redemption with exquisite interplay between Roy Bittan's piano and Charles Giordano's organ. The audience quickly silenced, seemingly in hushed awe of Springsteen's meticulous alchemy of music and lyrics, considered by many among his best work.

The Boss still is in top form, telling the audience that his little "bellyache" from last year is a memory. "It's all good now," he said. He even skipped across the stage at one point during "Hungry Heart."

Springsteen seems to thrive on the adulation, but not in a selfish manner. He's keenly aware of audience temperament. And knowing when to end a marathon show is about having empathy for the crowd, which stood most of the night.

Typical of the band's recent encores, the iconic "Born to Run" led a string of hits, including "Rosalita (Come out Tonight)," "Bobby Jean," "Dancing in the Dark" and "Tenth Avenue Freeze-Out."

Full, bright arena lighting illuminated the crowd during a medley of oldie covers, including a Detroit medley, "Devil with the Blue Dress On/Good Golly Miss Molly and C.C. Rider," among others.

Brothers Darrell and Don Miller, of Hilliard, both in their early 60s, recalled before the concert training for high school basketball with a coach playing the song "Born to Run" endlessly to inspire track workouts.

"It's the one song not on my playlist," said Don, "because I had to run laps to that thing for two years."

Fair Concerts: Ice Cube, Jamey Johnson added to Ohio State Fair's concert lineup

Darrell couldn't help wonder how much longer Springsteen can keep running.

"He's going overseas. This might be his ride off into the sunset," he said.

The blast furnace of a performance is the tour's last in the U.S. as the band now heads to Great Britain to begin its European tour. It returns in late summer, including two shows in Pittsburgh on Aug. 15 and 18.

Toward the show's final encore, "I'll See You in my Dreams," from his 2020 album, "Letter to You," Springsteen bent over in feigned (or likely real) exhaustion.

"I don't think you got anything left," he challenged the crowd, which answered in a deafening roar. "Are you saying you can outlast the E Street Band?"

A test of an artist's emotional reach is often found in the most distant seats. In the upper bowl, at the far end of the Nationwide stage, fans could be seen dancing, pumping their arms and waving.

Springsteen looked skyward, opened his eyes and smiled broadly.
