celebrity cruises to sydney

Sydney, Australia

Sydney is Australia's showcase city, and its grand harbor never fails to impress arriving cruise ship passengers. Its most famous attractions are the landmark Opera House and Harbor Bridge. Bondi Beach is a surfer's heaven, and Watson's Bay offers terrific views of Sydney's skyline. View kangaroos, emus and, of course, koalas at Koala Park, or take a stroll through The Rocks, Sydney's oldest neighborhood.

celebrity cruises to sydney

Celebrity Cruises celebrates its highly anticipated return to Australian and New Zealand waters, marking a new beginning for the cruise line.

On Saturday, Celebrity Eclipse set sail from Sydney on a 12-night itinerary exploring the wilderness of New Zealand. This voyage is the first of 17 sailings departing from Sydney and Auckland through April 2023, and the first for Celebrity Eclipse in Australian, New Zealand and South Pacific waters.

“The return Down Under has been long-awaited but someday has finally arrived! Celebrity Eclipse is the first Celebrity ship to sail this region for 930 days – a momentous occasion for the brand and our team members who have worked so hard to get to this point; and the first of many WonderFULL sailings ahead,” said Lisa Lutoff-Perlo, president and CEO of Celebrity Cruises.

“Returning to this region is another significant milestone in the industry’s global recovery, as we sail forward into a bright future.”

Celebrity Cruises vice president and managing director of Australia and APAC, Tim Jones, added: “We’ve been patiently waiting for this moment for so long, and to finally see the freshly painted blue hull of Celebrity Eclipse slice through the waters of Sydney Harbour didn’t disappoint.

“We were one of the remaining major cruise markets to return to service, and we are really proud to be contributing to the tourism industries of Australia, New Zealand and the South Pacific once more, alongside rebuilding the economy of key coastal communities.

“Continuing our momentum in the region, next year we’ll be taking the guest experience to the ‘Edge’ with the debut season of Celebrity Edge Down Under!

“It’s the great outdoors that makes this region truly exceptional and we can’t wait to welcome an equally exceptional ship that’s been uniquely designed to connect guests with their surroundings. Whether you’re flying Down Under to join us, or stepping aboard from your front door, Celebrity Edge is a chance to explore our exotic landscapes like never before, all while sailing in complete luxury. ”

Highlights of Celebrity’s 2022-23 season Down Under include:

  • The Great Barrier Reef from above and below with a choice of multiple experiences from privately chartered yachts to helicopter rides;
  • Savour some incredible local wines and culinary in the first-ever Australian food and wine itinerary to Melbourne, Adelaide and Hobart;
  • A new overnight opportunity in Hobart, Cairns and Adelaide to experience the nightlife in each of these cities;
  • Stay longer in port with 8pm departures from popular destinations such as Melbourne, Brisbane and Christchurch;
  • The Auckland to Fiji voyage makes a comeback, departing for the first time in January;
  • Three South Pacific Island itineraries;
  • And, a new transpacific sailing at the end of the season, seamlessly transporting guests between Sydney and Honolulu and crossing the international date line.

Sydney to Tasmania Cruises

A Sydney to Tasmania cruise is the perfect way to discover the rugged outdoors and fascinating history and culture of Australia’s island state. In Hobart, Tasmania’s capital, you can sip craft beers and excellent local wines, and visit artisanal markets to taste local cheeses, honey, and oysters.

Tasmania has tens of thousands of years of Aboriginal history and culture, and you can see some of the finest Aboriginal art at the city’s Art Mob gallery. Or venture to the countryside for cycling, hiking, and the chance to spot wild kangaroos and koalas. From short, four-night breaks to longer, nine-night voyages that also call at Melbourne, Adelaide, Kangaroo Island, or Eden, the perfect getaway is waiting for you.

Itineraries

Featured ports of call.

Wander along the historic waterfront of Tasmania’s capital, buzzing with restaurants, cafés, and pubs. Admire sweeping views from the Mount Wellington Lookout. Cruise the Derwent River to Betsey Island, where 15,000 pairs of little penguins nest, or see koalas and Tasmanian devils in the Bonorong Wildlife Sanctuary. If you’re an art and wine enthusiast, head to the superb Museum of Old and New Art, located within the Moorilla Winery, to sample local vintages and admire art.

Eden lies on New South Wales’ wild, rugged Sapphire Coast, where craggy cliffs are backed by dense, jade-green vegetation. Nature is always close at hand, whether you embark on a bush walk and learn about Aboriginal culture in the vast Ben Boyd National Park, or take a guided walk around Twofold Bay with a professional photographer. Spend the day with an oyster farmer and taste the famous Sydney rock oysters, or hike in Bournda National Park in search of sea eagles, kangaroos, and wallabies.

Explore the fascinating neighborhoods of multicultural Melbourne, from cool, edgy Brunswick to upscale Brighton and Victorian Kew. Explore by tram, or head out into the Yarra Valley to sample the region’s finest wines. Visit the National Gallery of Victoria, take a tour of the laneways to see dazzling street art, and sip a flat white in one of the city’s famous coffee shops. For magnificent scenery, drive along the Great Ocean Road to see the dramatic limestone stacks of the Twelve Apostles.

Celebrity Solstice

Celebrity Solstice is one of Celebrity's more decorated ships at sea. So it's no wonder that it's full of "firsts." Like the first Lawn Club at sea. The first Hot Glass Show, a custom-designed, outdoor glassblowing studio.  Some other things that set the Celebrity Solstice cruise ship apart are its specialty restaurants. Celebrity's passion for outstanding cuisine has taken the restaurants, the food and the overall dining experience to a whole new level in the cruising world. But staterooms and specialty restaurants are only part of the charm. Celebrity Solstice also has the luxury spa, Canyon Ranch SpaClub , where you can pamper yourself with spa treatments or push yourself in a workout with one of the personalized trainers. If only life on land was as good as life on Celebrity Solstice .

Knot on her watch!

Tammy Barr, who says she worked on cruises for three years, reveals in a new Insider essay the six things she’d never do on board.

Barr’s nauti list includes shelling out for dining upgrades or a drink package; touching certain surfaces with bare hands; wearing a room key as a necklace; using improper maritime grammar; and risking not returning to the ship on time.

She doesn’t mean to be a keel-joy, but she stern-ly advises against “supplementary” dinner items.

“I know $12 may not seem like much for a steak or lobster tail at dinner, but the cost of the cruise is supposed to include your food,” Barr penned for Insider. “So, even though I enjoy lobster, I stick with the items without the upcharges.”

Barr's nauti list includes shelling out for dining upgrades or a drink package; touching certain surfaces with bare hands; wearing a room key as a necklace; using improper maritime grammar; and risking not returning to the ship on time.

Data from late 2023 found that a five-night cruise in the Caribbean cost around $736 per person — a colossal 43% hike compared to the same time in 2019, as demand for cruise vacations spiked following the COVID-19 pandemic .

Barr keeps costs in mind while counseling against unlimited drink packages, especially for passengers who plan to leave ship bars to go ashore for the day.

Barr counsels against unlimited drink packages, especially for passengers who plan to leave the bar to go ashore for the day.

And third, Barr suggests touching common surfaces such as elevator buttons with knuckles or elbows.

“This strategy has worked for me, as I have never contracted norovirus, even when it was running rampant on a ship I was on,” Barr shared. “It’s quite contagious and can linger on your fingertips even after using hand sanitizer. I’d definitely rather be safe than sorry.”

13 outbreaks of norovirus — an easily spread stomach bug — were reported on cruises in 2023, the most since 2012, when there were 16 confirmed outbreaks.

The first norovirus cruise outbreak of 2024 was logged in January, on a Celebrity Cruises ship.

Also to stay safe, Barr recommends not wearing your room key around your neck, as it looks “pretentious” and “like an invitation to be robbed.”

Also, make sure to make it back to the ship on time, so you don't wreck your vacation.

Speaking of con-sea-ted, Barr is particular about how she identifies ships.

“Ships have proper names, and so do not require a definite article. For example, ‘Tomorrow I am embarking on Discovery Princess,’ or ‘I enjoyed scenic cruising on MS Westerdam,'” she imparts to the Insider audience.

And finally, make sure to make it back to the ship on time, so you don’t wreck your vacation.

Just last month, Norwegian Cruise Line left eight passengers stranded on a tiny island in Africa after their private tour ran late.

Sydney Sweeney and Fiancé Jonathan Davino Are All Smiles as They Arrive in Los Angeles Together: Photo

PEOPLE confirmed that Sydney Sweeney and Jonathan Davino were engaged back in March 2022

VEGAN / BACKGRID

Sydney Sweeney and her fiancé Jonathan Davino are traveling in style.

Sweeney, 26, and Davino, whom the Anyone But You star has been in a relationship with dating back to 2018, were seen smiling together as they arrived at an airport in Los Angeles on Friday, April 26. Davino could be seen holding Sweeney close as the couple walked through the airport. Both wore sunglasses while Sweeney pushed a suitcase and Miu Miu bag along with her.

The couple first stepped out together and sparked romance rumors in 2018 when they attended Hulu's 2018 Emmy party together. PEOPLE learned that Sweeney and Davino were engaged in March 2022 after she was seen wearing a diamond ring earlier that year, but neither the actress-producer or her fiancé have ever publicly confirmed their engagement.

Public interest in Sweeney and Davino's relationship grew significantly during 2023 as she filmed and promoted her romantic comedy Anyone But You with her costar Glen Powell . She and Powell, 35, experienced significant fan speculation that they engaged in an offscreen relationship after Powell and his ex-girlfriend  Gigi Paris   broke up  in April 2023 some time after the rom-com wrapped filming in Australia.

Anyone But You proved a significant box office hit ; both Powell and Sweeney recently told The New York Times they felt those rumors ultimately worked in their favor .

"I was in text group chats. I was probably keeping everybody over at Sony marketing and distribution awake at night because I couldn’t stop with ideas,” she told the outlet. “I wanted to make sure that we were actively having a conversation with the audience as we were promoting this film, because at the end of the day, they’re the ones who created the entire narrative.”

Sweeney gave rare insight into her personal life with Davino in a December 2023 interview with Glamour UK , in which she said rumors about her fiancé being "a restaurateur" or "the heir of a pizza company" are untrue.

“ I’ve been in a steady relationship for a really long time , which is not normal in this industry and not normal for my age," she said. "What I’ve noticed about the idea of celebrity is people really love to build someone up, and then tear them down.”

At the time, the actress also told Glamour UK that she "definitely will get married one day," though she did not specifically confirm her engagement to Davino. Sweeney's most recent film Immaculate is in theaters now.
