What is NYC Restaurant Week?

NYC Restaurant Week is a bi-annual event that takes place every summer and winter since 1982. Back then only a few restaurants participated in the promotion, whereas this year’s event counts almost 500 participating restaurants. Over time, the length of the promotion has been extended, so that now we can enjoy almost a full month of great, affordable food instead of just one week.

Among this season’s NYC Restaurant Week’s participants (more than 600!), you will find new trendy restaurants but also well established fine-dine restaurants. 25 TOP restaurants participating in Restaurant Week 2024

Here you can find some of our favorites:

Food Photography New York City Boucherie

01 Boucherie West Village

Around NYC, you’ll find four Boucherie sister restaurants, all of which will offer a special menu for Thanksgiving dinner. The dinner will consist of a roasted turkey smothered with truffle ballotine, brussels sprouts, sweet potato au gratin, cranberry compote, chanterelles, and turkey for $48 per person. This year’s famed dessert is priced at $15 for a slice of cheesecake topped with spiced caramel and pecans.

Dos_Caminos

02 Dos Caminos Meatpacking District

Dos Casminos is especially known for its spicy guacamole and the very good sangria. The charm that the restaurant exudes in each of the 5 locations is absolutely authentic Mexican and provides a successful change after a long working day or a strenuous sightseeing day.

red_rooster_Things_To_Do_In_Harlem_181126094731008_1

03 Red Rooster

The Red Rooster is an absolute institution and an integral part of the Harlem community. Located near the famous Apollo Theatre, the restaurant named after the legendary Harlem Speakeasy was located at 138th Street and 7th Avenue. This pleasant, colourful atmosphere was to be revived with the Red Rooster – and it really succeeded in creating a great atmosphere. The place does not only offer soul food but also cooking classes and live music.

231026132240004_Soogil_Credit_to_MST_Creative_PR

Soogil, nestled in the vibrant East Village of Manhattan, offers a culinary journey like no other. With an exquisite blend of flavors and meticulous presentation, each dish at Soogil is a masterpiece. The staff, passionate about the food they serve, enhances the dining experience with their knowledge and attentiveness. Probably one of the best Italian restaurants in Manhattan is Ci Siamo. With its open kitchen, you can watch the kitchen crew prepare your dishes. Also perfect if you are looking for a romantic restaurant.

The Best Christmas Restaurants in NYC

07 Tavern on the Green

Right on the western edge of Central Park is the popular restaurant Tavern on the Green. Here you can expect a chic ambience with English charm and a cosy outdoor terrace.

Restaurant-170423115755029

08 Cipriani Dolci

Located directly in Grand Central Terminal, Cipriani Dolci is an exceptional Italian restaurant. Opened in March 2002, Cipriani Dolci quickly made a name for itself with great service and an affordable menu. Visually, the restaurant blends in beautifully with the magnificent Grand Central Terminal.

In addition to delicious meals, you can also enjoy great cocktails here.

Brunch

Another East Village spot that I regularly visit is Hearth. With a focus on sustainable, clean eating, it’s where brunch is not just a meal, but an experience. Their whipped ricotta toast with poached apple and candied pepitas is heavenly, as is the Cacio e Pepe Polenta.

And for something sweet, you can’t go wrong with the Apple Crumb Muffin. Just make sure you wash it all down with The Beekeeper, a zesty gin and lemon cocktail. When you brunch at Hearth, you’re not just filling your belly, you’re nourishing your soul – as the name would suggest!

Noreetuh food

10 Noreetuh

Noreetuh isn’t your ordinary brunch spot in the East Village. It’s a modern Hawaiian restaurant where you’ll find brunch that embraces Hawaii’s Japanese, Polynesian, and American influences. Here, renowned Chef Chung Chow, an alum of Per Se, makes magic in the kitchen every Saturday and Sunday, from 11:30 am to 2:30 pm.

One of the must-try dishes? The Mochiko Chicken Loco Moco – a feast of fried dark meat chicken, graced with rich gravy and served with fried eggs and Hawaiian macaroni salad. Tip: order the King’s Hawaiian rolls as a side. Not to mention, they also sport an award-winning wine list, craft beers, and specialty sakes! Just remember, last call is at 2:15 pm, so don’t miss out!

My tip: Noreetuh has recently launched an exciting new cocktail program! Created by Courtney Smith and Ye Htoo Khaing Win, the menu now features unique Hawaiian-inspired tiki cocktails. For example, the Hawaiian Firefly combines jalapeños and rosemary with Casamigos Blanco, Aperol, lime juice, passion fruit puree and agave syrup, shaken and then served in a short tiki glass with a sprig of rosemary and a slice of jalapeño. Sounds delicious, right? But you can also order an Amaretto Colada or a Hawaiian Rose. All of these cocktails are also served with brunch.

221214105425003_Antica_Pesa_Brooklyn_New_York

11 Antica Pesa Brooklyn

Antica Pesa Brooklyn is an Italian restaurant in Williamsburg that is owned by four generations of the Panella family. Their first restaurant opened in Rome 1922, and the Williamsburg location recently celebrated its 10th anniversary.

If you like Italian cuisine, you should stop by here. They serve classic Italian dishes with a modern twist in a very beautiful and romantic surrounding.

Also wonderful: every Thursday you can enjoy live jazz here!

IMG_3163

12 ABC Kitchen

The ABC Kitchen serves Slow Food – the opposite of fast food and a declaration of love for our planet. Only the freshest ingredients, supplied by local farmers, are put on the plate. The dishes change seasonally and are free of pesticides, antibiotics, hormones and genetic engineering. The prices are more than reasonable for the quality of the ingredients and the service.

13 Sarabeth's Upper West Side

Amidst the hustle and bustle of Amsterdam Ave, Sarabeth’s humble facade can be easily overlooked. Yet, this petite storefront serves some of the best brunch food in the Upper West Side and has done so since 1983. What I love most about this restaurant is that it brings a certain class to your brunch.

Picture expertly poached eggs on a fluffy corn muffin partnered with zesty greens. Yes, I’m talking about their smoked salmon benedict! But it doesn’t stop there! Sarabeth’s morphed from a tiny bakery-kitchen selling preserves and baked goods to one of the best brunch restaurants adored by locals and visitors alike.

For a taste of their legacy, the Fat & Fluffy French Toast with strawberries or the Lemon & Ricotta Pancakes with blackberries are my top picks. And their delicious Eggs and Lox never miss the mark either. So, no matter what you eat, don’t miss this unassuming spot!

Steak

14 Bacall's Family Steakhouse

Bacall’s Family Steakhouse is one of the most highly regarded restaurants in NYC, known for its delicious steaks and romantic ambiance. Located in the heart of Manhattan, Bacall’s is the perfect spot for a special dinner with your loved one.

The restaurant offers a wide selection of succulent steaks, including filet mignon, ribeye, and New York strip, all cooked to perfection and served with your choice of sides. In addition to the steaks, Bacall’s also has a selection of seafood dishes, including lobster tail and pan-seared salmon, as well as vegetarian options.

15 The Ribbon

Situated on the Upper West Side, The Ribbon represents the quintessential New York restaurant experience. From their extensive wine list and craft cocktails to their mastery of American classics with a hint of French influence, there’s no better Thanksgiving dinner than that at The Ribbon NYC.

Start your meal with a Treviso and Endive salad or stuffed butternut squash before moving on to the main course of Atlantic Salmon or traditional ham or turkey. Don’t forget to leave room for dessert! Enjoy a decadent piece of pumpkin bread pudding or pecan pie.

Manhatta Best Rooftop Restaurants In NYC

16 Manhatta

The restaurant Manhatta is one of the best restaurants in town and is perfect if you are looking for a restaurant for a special occasion. Not only is the food here at the highest level – so are you! Located on the 60th floor, it offers you a magnificent view of the city!

And don’t let anyone else tell you that your East Village journey is complete without visiting Veselka, the Ukrainian coffee shop. Nestled at the corner of East Ninth Street and Second Avenue, this iconic 24-hour diner has been serving heartwarming fare since 1954.

I highly recommend the signature brunch pierogi, a delightful mix of bacon, scrambled eggs, Vermont cheddar, and chipotle ketchup. If you’re an eggs benedict fan, their Salmon Latka version with smoked salmon, potato pancakes, and hollandaise sauce will wow you! Plus, their Eggnog French toast and hearty breakfast menu are available anytime, day or night.

Just a short walk from the vibrant Astor Place, Veselka is a must-visit brunch restaurant in the East Village. Just keep in mind that the brunch magic only occurs on weekends and holidays from 9:00 am to 3:00 pm.

Haven_Rooftop_Bar_New_York_02

18 Haven Rooftop & Restaurant

In the heart of the Theatre District on Times Square you will find the Haven Rooftop & Restaurant. It is on the 10th floor of the Sanctuary Hotel at 47th Street between 6th and 7th Avenue and offers you a sensational perspective. Although it is in Times Square, it is surprisingly quiet. I love the mix of “being in the middle of the city” and “still having peace and quiet” – and that’s exactly what you can expect there.

Jacobs Pickles

19 Jacobs Pickles

If you’re looking for some great Southern-style comfort food, then Jacob’s Pickles on the Upper West Side is a great place to start.

20 Cucina 8½

Are you searching for the best restaurants in NYC for Valentine’s Day? Look no further than Cucina 8½ in Midtown West! This chic Italian restaurant is the perfect setting for a romantic dinner on Valentine’s Day.

Here, you’ll be tempted by a wide selection of delicious Italian dishes. The menu features a variety of meats, seafood, and vegetarian options, all cooked to perfection and served with the freshest ingredients. Whether you opt for a classic pasta dish or a succulent seafood entree, you can be sure that your meal will be nothing short of extraordinary.

With its delicious food, romantic atmosphere, and excellent service, Cucina 8½ is the perfect spot for a Valentine’s Day dinner in Midtown West. Don’t wait – make your reservation today and treat your loved one to a memorable evening at this chic Italian restaurant.

Kokomo NYC is a popular restaurant located in the heart of New York City. Known for its delicious seafood and impeccable service, Kokomo NYC is a top choice for a Valentine’s Day dinner in the city.

One thing that makes Kokomo NYC stand out is its stunning interior design, which features a beautiful open kitchen and a cozy, intimate atmosphere. The restaurant’s menu is filled with delicious seafood dishes, including oysters, lobster, and a variety of fish entrees. In addition to its seafood offerings, Kokomo NYC also serves a selection of meats and vegetarian dishes, making it a great choice for diners with diverse tastes. If you’re looking for one of the best Valentine’s Day ideas in NYC, consider making a reservation at Kokomo, as spots fill up fast.

Carmine_s_Italian_Restaurant_190130105941015

22 Carmine's Italian Restaurant

I love the concept of Carmine’s: the portions are huge and – like an Italian family meal – are meant to be shared. Just put them in the middle of the table, add a glass of red wine and you feel like in Italy! The waiters are super-nice and the restaurant itself is suitable for families with children. I was there with my family (2 children) and both of my friends were delighted.

Brunch at Pig and Khao

23 Pig And Khao

Imagine you’re just around the corner from Nathan Stratus Playground, in the heart of the Lower East Side, and your tummy grumbles for some rowdy brunch fun. Enter Pig And Khao! This Southeast Asian restaurant oozes a lively atmosphere that’s perfect for a brunch that could well extend into an afternoon adventure.

Brunch hours run on weekdays from 5 pm, and on weekends it’s a two-part saga, 11 am to 3 pm and 5 pm till close. During these times, you’ll enjoy an exciting menu of favorites like green papaya salad, sizzling pork sisig, or the comforting French Toast. Bottomless mimosas? They got you covered for just $21 per person. If you want my recommendation, I suggest you try the Steak and Eggs with the mimosas, and thank me later!

210505154613002_Benjamins_Steakhouse_New_York

24 Benjamin Steakhouse

Located in the heart of Midtown East, Benjamin Prime is a sleek and modern steakhouse that is an excellent choice for a romantic Valentine’s Day dinner in New York City. The restaurant features stylish and sophisticated decor, with dark wood accents, leather banquettes, and dim lighting that creates a romantic and intimate atmosphere.

Regarding NYC Valentine’s Day restaurants 2022, Benjamin Prime typically offers a special menu featuring a variety of high-quality steaks and other meat dishes and a selection of seafood and vegetarian options. The restaurant is known for its excellent wine list, which includes a wide range of red wines that are carefully chosen to pair with the menu.

25 Little Owl

Let’s journey to Little Owl, an amazing spot tucked away in Greenwich Village, just a stroll from its sister restaurants, The Mary Lane, Market Table & The Clam. Open for weekend brunch from 9 am until 3 pm; it’s nestled right under the apartments that inspired the TV show Friends!

Now, when it comes to food, Chef Joey Campanaro serves a Mediterranean twist on traditional brunch dishes that never fail to impress. One of my all-time favorites at Little Owl is the Smoked Salmon Scramble, but if my sweet tooth beckons, I give into the Brioche French Toast with stewed berry sauce. And, of course, their Poached Egg served with fontina biscuits, breakfast patties, greens & hollandaise is always a great choice.

ABOUT NYC RESTAURANT WEEK

NYC Restaurant Week℠ is the highly anticipated—and often imitated—celebration of dining throughout New York City. The prix-fixe program invites diners to sample the incredible array of eateries that make up NYC’s culinary culture.

Created in 1992 as a one-time culinary event to welcome the Democratic National Convention (DNC), the program found a strong following among residents excited to dine at some of the City’s top restaurants.

Now NYC Restaurant Week returns this winter, running from January 16 through February 4 2024. The program will offer prix-fixe menus at $30, $45 and $60 at hundreds of participating restaurants and neighborhood favorites across the five boroughs. To book your table, visit the official NYC Restaurant Week page starting January 9.

We’re sure you have some questions and we’re here to help! If you can't find the answers below, feel free to submit your question or comment via the form here .

NYC Restaurant Week is a semiannual program that celebrates New York City’s world-famous dining scene. Participating restaurants citywide offer menus at a special price for lunch and/or dinner, inspiring diners to try something new (and even break bread in a different borough).

The program runs from January 16 through February 4, but restaurants may participate for one, two, or all three weeks. Always check the NYC Restaurant Week page before booking to ensure the offer is active at your desired restaurant at the time you want to dine. While our website reflects the most accurate information at the time of publication, we recommend checking a restaurant’s participation information on their website or by calling the restaurant directly. Saturdays are excluded from the program and Sundays are optional. Be sure to check the hours of operation at the restaurants you plan to visit.

The winter 2024 program features a trio of pricing options ($30, $45, $60), which restaurants may offer during meal periods of their choosing (lunch, dinner or both). This structure allows a greater variety of restaurants in all five boroughs to participate, creating more options—and more available reservations—for diners.

In general, restaurants will offer lunch, dinner, or both lunch and dinner from Monday through Friday. Please check their websites for hours of operation and regularly scheduled closings. Saturdays are excluded from the program; Sunday participation is optional.

Takeout and/or delivery is not an official component of NYC Restaurant Week Winter 2024. If a restaurant happens to offer their prix-fixe menu for takeout/delivery, please note that your meal will not be eligible for the Mastercard statement credit.

To receive your $10 statement credit, you must register your eligible Mastercard prior to dining during the program dates, while supplies last or between January 16 and February 4. You have to spend $45 or more on a single transaction in a participating restaurant. The credit will be reflected on your next Mastercard statement, usually 10 business days after the charge was made.

No—you’ll receive $10 back on each single transaction of $45 or more, not for every increment of $45 you spend. The maximum amount of cash back you can receive is $30 and only valid for transactions made through February 4 or while supplies last.

Please first ensure that you registered your Mastercard before you made the transaction at Priceless.com/nycrestaurantweek . (Registration opens January 5.) Upon successful enrollment, you would have received a confirmation email. Make sure to check your spam folder just in case.

Please allow 15 business days for processing. Mastercard may have posted the credit, but it may not yet appear on your bank statement.

You may have already reached the maximum of three (3) credits (for a total of $30 back).

You must be the primary account holder. Please note the promotion is only available for one card per registered household address.

This promotion is open to US Mastercard cardholders only and select international cardholders

Please note that the $10 Mastercard statement credit is only valid for transactions made on-site and not for takeout or delivery.

Though most of our restaurants are enrolled in the statement credit program, some are not eligible. Before you dine, please confirm the restaurant is eligible for the statement credit by using the “$10 Back” filter on the NYC Restaurant Week page.

If you are missing the statement credit for any other reasons, you may call Mastercard Customer Loyalty at +1 (855) 438-7580 or email [email protected]  within 30 days of the transaction date to investigate further. Please have your credit card details and meal receipt handy. Although Mastercard will do their best to accommodate you, please note that no credits will be applied beyond 30 days after the end of the promotion.

For full program terms and more details on eligibility, please visit http://nyctourism.com/rw-terms .

Starting January 5, Mastercard cardholders can find and reserve the best NYC Restaurant Week Winter 2024 tables here . Reservations for the general public will be open January 9.

Beginning January 9, you can browse winter 2024 participants here  and click on any restaurant for more on their offerings. Please note that not all restaurants may choose to publish their menu. Be sure to check which weeks they are participating, which meals they are offering, and visit their website for hours of operation.

January 16, 2024

Restaurant Week—which is much longer than a week—happens twice yearly, and 2024’s winter edition runs from January 16 to February 4. During this time, over 600 restaurants will be participating. As the number suggests, it really is a grab bag. You can get lunch at Union Square Cafe, or you can enjoy a fine meal next to one of Adam Levine’s guitars at Hard Rock Cafe. To help you sort through the list, we’ve selected our top picks.

This year, restaurants are offering $30, $45, and $60 multi-course meals, although not every place has all of these options, so be sure to check beforehand to see how much you’ll be spending. Additionally, not every restaurant is participating every week, and Saturdays are excluded (while Sundays are optional). Get more info and book your table here .

Kru image

The Deal: $30 Lunch, $30 Sunday Lunch/Brunch, $45 Dinner, $45 Sunday Dinner, $30 Bottle of Wine

One of the best Thai restaurants in the city, Kru is a place you need to check off your list, especially if you frequent Williamsburg. For Restaurant Week, you can construct your multi-course meal from options like duck confit salad and red curry-rubbed branzino. The $30 bottle of wine is a very nice bonus.

Frenchette image

The Deal: $60 Lunch

Even during Restaurant Week, Frenchette insists on being pricier than most. But you can actually squeeze a little value out of your $60 lunch at what’s arguably the top French restaurant in NYC. The cassoulet normally typically costs over $50 on its own, and it’s one of the available entrees, along with the Tribeca restaurant’s exceptional roast chicken and skate grenobloise.

Gallaghers Steakhouse image

Gallaghers Steakhouse

Midtown/Times Square

The Deal: $30 Lunch, $30 Sunday Lunch/Brunch

Take a long lunch. Your boss doesn’t care. They barely even know what you do for work. If you’re in Midtown, choose Gallaghers, where you can enjoy a $30 daytime meal under black-and-white photos of baseball players and race horses. Open since 1927, the Theater District restaurant remains an essential NYC steakhouse .

The Fulton image

Financial District

The Deal: $45 Lunch, $45 Sunday Lunch/Brunch, $60 Dinner, $60 Sunday Dinner

Located on Pier 17 in FiDi, The Fulton is a bi-level seafood restaurant from Jean-Georges with fantastic views of the East River and Brooklyn Bridge. You can easily spend a ridiculous amount of money here, which is why this is the ideal time to visit. Start with some oysters or ceviche, then get the gruyère cheeseburger topped with crunchy onions.

Momoya Soho image

Momoya Soho

The Deal: $30 Lunch, $30 Sunday Lunch/Brunch, $60 Dinner, $60 Sunday Dinner

Momoya Soho is delicious, but pricey, which makes it exactly the sort of place you should be targeting right now. The lunch offering at this modern, fish tank-like sushi spot comes with a few little starters and your choice of main, with options that include sashimi over rice and a set with seven pieces of nigiri and a roll.

LittleMad image

The Deal: $60 Dinner, $60 Sunday Dinner

As one of seemingly several thousand Hand Hospitality restaurants, LittleMad is easy to overlook. But the food—a mix of Korean, French, and American—is fun, inventive, and worth experiencing at least once. Dinner here usually costs $95, so head over now if you want a lower check.

Fish Cheeks

The Deal: $45 Lunch, $60 Dinner

A $60 meal isn't anything unusual at Fish Cheeks. It's around what you'll spend on any given night at this Noho Thai spot. But with this deal, you'll get try more than you normally would. Stop by with a few friends, and have everyone choose different things from the three-course set menu that has options like grilled cuttlefish, wok-fried skate, and the restaurant's famous coconut crab curry.

West Village

Have you tried the scallion puffs at Silver Apricot? Go do that, then dive into some scallop fried rice or mapo squash rice cakes. This West Village restaurant serves a creative take on New American/Chinese cuisine, and, for Restaurant Week, they also have a few $50 bottles of wine.

Delmonico’s image

Delmonico's

The Deal: $60 Lunch, $60 Sunday Dinner, $60 Sunday Lunch/Brunch

Find a faux-fur coat and a hat that makes a statement, then get over to Delmonico's and mingle with some 21st-century robber barons. The original opened in the early 18th century, and, though there have been many ownership changes over the years, the current iteration is still a fun place to spend too much money on steak, lobster, and baked alaska.

Hav & Mar image

Hav & Mar

If you’re still eating your way through our list of the Best New Restaurants of 2023 , make Hav & Mar your next visit. Marcus Samuelsson’s globally-inspired Chelsea restaurant is his best work to date, and the mermaid-accented space always has a good energy to it.

Koloman image

The Deal: $30 Lunch

Fussy, French, and Austrian, Koloman serves food that looks like it should be on display in a museum, and tastes like an upscale weekend in Vienna. Stop into this Nomad restaurant for a $30 lunch that consists of crisp schnitzel and apple strudel served with a side of frozen buttermilk.

Le Crocodile image

Le Crocodile

Williamsburg

The Deal: $45 Lunch

You know what sounds nice? A plate of chicken and fries at this cavernous French restaurant in the bottom of Williamsburg’s Wythe Hotel. The thin, crispy fries come in a big pile on the side of the roasted chicken, soaking up the jus in the bottom of the dish. Finish your lunch with profiteroles.

Manhatta image

The prix-fixe at Manhatta normally starts at $115, and people gladly pay that much because  it comes with a panoramic view from the 60th floor of a FiDi skyscraper. With this deal, which comes with three courses, you can almost cut that bill in half. Along with your view, you’ll get some innovative New American food.

Gramercy Tavern image

Gramercy Tavern

The Deal: $60 Lunch, $60 Sunday Lunch/Brunch

Gramercy Tavern feels like a lodge in Aspen where you’d eat with someone who’s trying to figure out how much money they should leave you in their will. It’s dated in a charming sort of way, and it’s a New York City classic. If you want to have a fancy New American meal in the main dining room without spending over $100, now’s your chance.

Lore image

Experimental

The Deal: $45 Dinner, $45 Sunday Dinner, $30 Sunday Lunch/Brunch

This Park Slope restaurant serves a dosa, sea bream ssam, and jerk chicken, in addition to a bunch of other dishes that aren’t often witnessed on the same menu. And you know what? It works. Bring someone who thinks they’ve already been to every interesting restaurant in Brooklyn.

Freemans image

Lower East Side

The Deal: $45 Lunch, $60 Dinner, $60 Sunday Dinner

Freemans will always be referred to as “that one restaurant hidden down an alley on the Lower East Side.” The seclusion is a big part of its appeal, although the classic American food and hunting lodge-like ambiance are very pleasant as well. Stop by for some artichoke dip. You’ll have a good time.

Hupo image

Long Island City

Eat more food in Long Island City . The neighborhood’s dining scene has been ramping up over the past few years, so it’s time you’ve checked in. For Sichuan food, like meaty mapo tofu with thick-cut scallions, go to Hupo. Unlike most on this list, their dinner deal comes with two cocktails.

Eléa image

Upper West Side

Astoria is typically where you'll find the best Greek food , but Eléa has you covered on the Upper West Side. This bi-level spot looks like something you'd find on Mykonos and serves great crudo, hummus, and h oriatiki salad. The upscale, all-white space works just as well for a date as it does for a nice family meal.

Share All sharing options for: 10 Tables Worth Booking for NYC Restaurant Week

The semi-annual Restaurant Week is upon us again, a month-long celebration of the city’s dining establishments sponsored by our municipal tourism authority . It starts today and runs until Sunday, February 12, with Saturdays excluded and Sundays optional. Some restaurants do lunch and dinner and participate for the duration, while others do only dinner, and only for only a week or two. Lunches (two courses) and dinners (three courses) are sold at tiered prices of $30, $45, and $60, and it’s up to the restaurants to offer meals with good value to cultivate repeat customers.

It is bewildering that over 500 restaurants are participating. Many book quickly, so it pays to examine your options and make reservations soon. Call the restaurants, check the websites or their reservation platforms for a description of deals, because they can be complicated, with blackout dates and limited menus. Here’s my choice of selections, in alphabetical order.

A wooden table filled with plates of small Spanish tapas.

Boqueria — This restaurant was in at the start of the tapas and small dish craze when it opened in 2006, and the sleek original Flatiron location with its cheese-and-charcuterie counter evokes modern Barcelona with a lengthy selection of tapas and larger raciones. 53 West 19th Street, between 5th and 6th avenues, Flatiron

Bowl with dips and flatbreads.

Boulud Sud — This Daniel Boulud restaurant explores the cooking of the Mediterranean Rim, including the cuisines of coastal France, Spain, Italy, North Africa, and Turkey via chef Christina D’Angelo. Hidden on a side street, the elegant restaurant is a stone’s throw from Lincoln Center. 20 West 64th Street, between Central Park West and Broadway, Upper West Side

Three bowls of curry, one pie with top pulled back, and rice here and there.

Indian Table — Helmed by Goan-born Eric McCarthy, this romantic restaurant decorated like a ship explores the cuisines of southern India, beginning at the beaches of Goa and its Portuguese flourishes and extending to Hyderabad, Tamil Nadu, and Kerala. 234 Court Street, between Baltic and Kane streets, Cobble Hill

A room with pottery, banquettes, and basket lamps overhead.

Ixta — The recently opened Ixta right on the Bowery is one of today’s modern clubstaurants , meaning the decor is glitzy and the music played at ample volume. That said, the Mexican food is terrific, with an emphasis on Oaxaca. 299 Bowery, between Houston and East 1st Street, East Village

A window with gilt lettering.

Lafayette — This Greenwich Village restaurant under chef Andrew Carmellini is one of the city’s French mainstays, with crisp and comfortable decor featuring good sight lines. The menu is typically Parisian, and the attached bakery provides the bread-and-pastry oomph! such a restaurant requires. 380 Lafayette Street, between East 3rd and East 4th streets, Greenwich Village

Outdoor seating, including some under a red pavilion.

Morandi — Morandi is a West Village favorite, a laid-back Italian restaurant by Keith McNally with views of a charming neighborhood and a menu that concentrates on savory small dishes and pastas amply sauced. The wine list is an added plus. 211 Waverly Place, at Seventh Avenue, West Village

A round table with a light hanging overhead and window behind.

Perry Street — This sleeper project of Jean-Georges Vongerichten and his son Cedric is located on a windy promontory overlooking the Hudson River, and the glowing white room is filled with tables hidden around corners and in nooks — perfect for dating couples or throuples. The food is French with creative Italian and Korean twists. 176 Perry Street, at West Street, West Village

Two dining rooms, one seen through a door at the left side of the picture.

Sylvia’s — Founded by Sylvia Woods in 1962, her eponymous restaurant gives a glimpse of Harlem in the old days. In the dining rooms, a jazz combo often softly plays and the fried chicken, mac and cheese, and collards are unimpeachable. 328 Malcolm X Boulevard, between 126th and 127th streets, Harlem

A hand is shown dipping crisp pita into a bowl of butternut squash-lentil stew; in the foreground is a bowl of fucshia-colored beets, green pickles, and yellow cauliflower

Tanoreen — Nazareth-born Rawia Bishara started Tanoreen as a small storefront deli, but it eventually grew into the grand Bay Ridge restaurant it is today . The menu features earthy and elegant Middle Eastern cuisine, with a few surprises. 7523 3rd Avenue, at 76th Street, Bay Ridge

A serving of pulled pork with a crisp pig skin on top.

Victor’s — It was founded by Victor Del Corral and Eloina Ruiz de Ugarrio in 1963 on the Upper West Side, but moved to its current location with bright tropical decor and a Creole feel a few years back. There’s no better place in town to experience the splendor of pre-revolutionary Cuba cuisine. 236 West 52nd Street, between 7th and 8th avenues, Midtown

This Is Where Celebrity Chefs Say You Should Eat During NYC Restaurant Week

Evie Carrick is a writer and editor who’s lived in five countries and visited well over 50. She now splits her time between Colorado and Paris, ensuring she doesn't have to live without skiing or L'As du Fallafel.

city cruises nyc restaurant week

There’s no better time to get out of your restaurant rut or take-out habit than NYC Restaurant Week — but choosing where to dine isn’t easy. Nearly 400 restaurants in all five boroughs serve up everything from Laotian cuisine to pizza. And with only so much time — the event runs from July 22 to August 16 — expert help is a must.

Thanks to NYC & Company , New York City’s top chefs shared where they’d want to snag a table during restaurant week — aside from their own restaurants, of course.

Marcus Samuelsson , chef at Red Rooster and Ginny’s Supper Club

“ Vinatería is an amazing example of what the power of women can do, and it’s right here in Harlem. Chef Mimi and proprietor Yvette are a powerhouse team, creating consistently great Italian and Spanish food and great vibes. I can’t wait to see what they’ve got in store for NYC Restaurant Week — I know it's going to be delicious.”

Serena Bass , chef at Lido

“ Babu Ji is the most interesting and delicious Indian restaurant in NYC. I am always inspired and come away planning to add more color to my dishes. Indochine , because who would ever turn down a chance to go there—wonderful food and atmosphere and usually several friends dining in the shadows.”

JJ Johnson , chef at Henry at the Life Hotel

“ Tribeca Grill offers an amazing dining experience, and it’s a New York classic! It’s always a good option for Restaurant Week.”

Chung Chow , chef and co-owner at Noreetuh

“ Restaurant Soogil is a hidden gem on East 4th Street, just a couple blocks from Noreetuh. Every time I go I make sure to order the glass noodles, mackerel and foie gras. If you’re up for getting a little bit of everything, go for the tasting menu.”

Reservations for NYC Restaurant Week are now open and can be made at NYCgo.com . During restaurant week you can enjoy two-course prix-fixe lunches for $26 and three-course prix-fixe dinners (with dessert) for $42. Beverages, taxes, and tip are not included.

Last week, we shared Pete Wells’s revised list of the 100 best restaurants in New York City . Our restaurant-loving readers had notes, to the tune of more than 600 comments. So we gave them another chance to tell us all about their favorite restaurants, and received nearly 900 responses — many effusive in their praise. (Side note: Have you all considered becoming food writers?)

Many readers aligned with Pete: Some agreed that there’s no restaurant quite like Le Bernardin (No. 3), and Gramercy Tavern (No. 33) remains a perennial favorite 30 years later. Some felt strongly that Shukette (No. 71) and M. Wells (No. 83) deserved a higher ranking. But by and large, readers suggested restaurants that may not be on critics’ lists, but remain deeply special to them. Below are 25 of our favorite submissions, which have been edited and condensed.

A person spoons chili sauce onto doubles.

Memories of Past Meals

Gennaro , Upper West Side

I feel like I’m eating in Italy circa 1975 every time I go to Gennaro. The fava bean salad is tangy; the homemade pasta con le Sarde whisks me to Sicily; and calves liver? Yes! Yes! Yes! Oh, and did I mention that you can hear yourself talk?

— Maria Lissandrello, Upper East Side

A&A Bake & Doubles Shop, Bedford-Stuyvesant

When I lived in Bed-Stuy in the 2010s, I would line up there early, because the star attraction was sold out by 9 a.m. That would be the doubles — sublime, every time. The baras are more chewy than crisp, but that’s all the better to hold the channa, which is beautifully soft and slightly sloppy (a good thing!). Then there’s the pepper sauce. It’s the perfect topping, fiery and sweet. Food apart, there’s also the community that somehow forms when Indo-Carribbean aunties and uncles, students, bipsters, hipsters and whoever else has found their way to Bed-Stuy and A&A. They jostle, sigh and yet wait patiently until one of the servers says, “What you gettin’, darlin’?”

— Bix Gabriel, Jackson Heights

Kashkar Cafe , Brighton Beach

As a broke and overworked line cook in my 20s, I used to ride the Q train to Brighton Beach on days off. I prided myself on being a cook with abilities and a work ethic that could stand up to the city’s best — but the food at Kashkar was different. It was Uzbek-Uyghur, and at the time I had no idea what that meant. Lamb plov, dumpling soup, a simple eggplant salad — if I made them 100 times over, they’d never be as soulful.

— Peter Zinn, Portland, Maine

Premium Sweets and Restaurant, Jackson Heights

Between Covid and archaic immigration policies, I’ve been unable to go home to Bangladesh for years. Home is my family, my friends and the food. Try as I may to replicate most of the flavors, some dishes are out of the purview of my studio home kitchen. Whether it be a simple paratha and aloo bhaji, or an intricate, adroitly made kacchi biryani, Premium has it all. A warm meal, made with the love I grew up with, served in a language that helps me break causality and be home for a good hour and back.

— A. Nafis Arafat, Upper East Side

The Neighborhood Staples

The Freakin’ Rican , Astoria

It’s not only the food that makes this place so remarkable , it’s the community it brings and its ability to turn pork chops and white rice into a delicious trip down memory lane. The chef is top-notch and dedicated to perfecting his craft, a homage to Puerto Rican food, but is also personable and treats everyone eating like family.

— Marisol Salaman, Astoria

Mama Yoshi Mini Mart , Ridgewood

This is the only favorite restaurant I have ever had because it has opened me up to comfort food that I never knew I couldn’t live without. Everyone loves the chicken katsu sandwiches — a crispy chicken cutlet bigger than a human head on a comparably tiny bun — and the Spam breakfast burritos, but their grab-and-go section is my favorite in the city. It’s stocked with baskets of affordable food like fresh onigiri, macaroni salad with the correct amount of mayo, housemade pickles and more.

— Lu Levin, Ridgewood

Alison , East Harlem

A sweet neighborhood spot with an extensive wine list and diverse menu. The kofta lamb kebab with feta and avocado spread is not to be missed. I’ve been 100 times and would go 100 more.

— Kate Bernardoni, Upper East Side

Jake’s Steakhouse , Fieldston

The crown jewel is any steak, but with Jake’s Style, the blue cheese just melts in your mouth. The sides taste doubly amazing, specifically the creamed spinach and croquettes. To add the cherry on top, they have the best homemade steak sauce and even sell their neighbor Lloyd’s famous carrot cake.

— Daisy Nuñez, Soundview

G’s Coffee Shop, Inwood

This small diner and lotto shop in Inwood actually seems interested not only in the food, but in the people it serves, too. I have never seen a neighborhood more devoted to — and defined by — one single restaurant than this.

— Benjamin VanWagoner, Inwood

Q Rico Restaurant, South Bronx

A Michelin experience for blue-collar prices. We left satiated with admiration and respect. A meal my young kids will remember. The cassava dish was fantastic.

— Risa Sibbit, Grand Concourse historic district

Menus That Truly Stand Out

Sabry’s Seafood , Astoria

Fresh fish and a lively assortment based on what’s in the fish market that day. The most amazing pita bread baked on the premises with eggplant, hummus and tahini, unparalleled as appetizers. Watch that bread as it becomes addictive! Sardines, smelts, ask for a preparation customized to you and you will get it. The staff is lovely and friendly, and Sabry is there in the open kitchen. Have traditional Egyptian tea with mint to finish an amazing meal!

— Nancy ElNaggar, Forest Hills

Archer & Goat , Central Harlem

The unique fusion of flavors from Latin America and Southeast Asia set the restaurant apart. Who doesn’t love an arepa topped with chicken vindaloo? Looking forward to a summer evening in their back patio with the string lights, a fancy mezcal cocktail and some Pirulo playing.

— Anderson de Andrade, Harlem

HAGS , East Village

Telly Justice and Camille Lindsley have one of the most creative and queer restaurant spaces New York City has ever seen. HAGS brings in queer chefs, artists and workers to learn the trade, and they are given free rein to experiment, create and shine. The seasonal tasting menu by Chef Telly is unlike anything I have ever tasted. Who knew tempeh could be so grand? They also provide a weekly pay-what-you-can meal. Imagine Eleven Madison Park vibes in cardboard containers.

— Michael Fellows, Downtown Brooklyn

Win Son , Williamsburg

I don’t plan to wind up on death row, but if I ever have to choose a final meal, the last thing I ever eat would be the tián miàntuán (with peanuts and cilantro, of course).

— Benjamin Schindel, Baltimore

The Repeat Customers

Inga’s Bar , Brooklyn Heights

Since it opened , we’ve celebrated everything there — from birthdays to New Year’s Eve, and it hits no matter the occasion or non-occasion. The burger, the monkfish and everything in between. It’s exactly the right balance between fancy and comfortable.

— Jane Merrill, Clinton Hill

Frankies Spuntino , Carroll Gardens

There is no better meal in New York City than the fennel salad, followed by the sausage and cavatelli, then the prunes and mascarpone for dessert with cocktails, wine or coffee along the way.

— Brie Ashley, Bay Ridge

Sofreh , Prospect Heights

I have been to Sofreh five times and have never had a single bite that I wasn’t obsessed with. Chef Nasim is usually walking around making conversation, which adds to the inviting feel. The perfect restaurant in my opinion.

— Kayla Wadwa-Hansel, Prospect Lefferts Gardens

The (Relatively) Well-Kept Secrets

Fuska House Food Cart , Jackson Heights

This food cart is so fire. I had never had Bengali food before my friend introduced me to this spot. On a busy street in Jackson Heights a line of food trucks all sell the same dish : fuchka pani puri , a crispy spherical shell filled with chickpeas, potato, onions, egg and a variety of delicious Bengali spices. It’s crispy, $7 for a tray of 7 and comes with a cup of tamarind sauce for dipping. The cart also sells cups of hot chai, which is a perfect beverage for this street food delight.

— Halley Gerber, Flatbush

Cheburechnaya , Rego Park

This restaurant showcases the breadth and diversity of Bukharan Jewish food with its Silk Route influences in a lively, no-frills setting. Rich soups, flaky cheburek pastries and skewered meats arrive fresh off the grill — and it’s all kosher. Many large parties come for celebrations and since it’s B.Y.O.B., it’s fun to watch the bottles of vodka pile up on the celebrants’ tables.

— Joshua Waxman, Glen Rock, N.J.

Tia Pol , Chelsea

I’ve never seen this hidden gem on any buzzy restaurant lists, but it is such an authentic, wonderful slice of Spanish cuisine in West Chelsea. Every plate — despite mostly standard tapas fare — is elevated thanks to the quality of the ingredients. The space makes you feel as if you’d been transported to another time and place. Which is what New York City dining is all about, right?

— Rachel Jablon, Upper East Side

Paul’s da Burger Joint , East Village

I have never brought anyone, from anywhere in the world, to Paul’s without them being astonished by how great the burger is or the gritty old-school New York City vibe of the place. It’s the kind of New York “dive” real New Yorkers wax nostalgic about when they talk about places that don’t exist anymore. Except it does. And it’s awesome.

— Deanna Wallach, Bedford-Stuyvesant

They’re Classics for a Reason

Raoul’s , SoHo

The only place I order steak. The best dirty martini. Love the bartenders and Eddie at the door. If I return from summer and I’m bummed to be back in the grind, I go to Raoul’s and I’m back!

— Erin Crandall Phillips, West Village

Cafe Luxembourg , Upper West Side

Cafe Luxembourg is the crown jewel of the Upper West Side. This neighborhood has seen dozens of food and drink establishments come and go in the 25 years I have lived here. Despite the challenges the city has faced — Sept. 11, the 2008 financial crisis, Covid— Cafe Lux has remained a beacon of excellent dining. This is how you run a restaurant. It is my happy place.

— Bruce Weinstein, Upper West Side

Grand Central Oyster Bar , Midtown Manhattan

There’s a comfortable spot for everyone who comes through the classic doorway. My father would stop for a cup of oyster chowder before commuting home to Scarsdale in the ’60s, ’70s and ’80s. Now my husband and I go there to meet friends, celebrate and take in the historic setting.

— Barbara Potter, Upper West Side

La Bonbonniere , West Village

This is a classic New York City diner. So greasy. So good. They once kept a bottle of real maple syrup in their fridge for us even though we only came around once a week.

— Kevin Hertzog, Guilford, N.Y.

The Hottest New Restaurants in New York City This Spring

By Elise Taylor and Jessie Heyman

Trying new restaurants in New York City is part of the fun of being there: in 2023, there were 71 Michelin-starred eateries across the five boroughs, more than any other city in the United States. Each year, several more are nominated for (and often win) a James Beard award—a.k.a “the foodie Oscars.” And those are just the places with significant accolades: on any given day, on any given corner, you’ll see a thriving restaurant packed with its neighborhood regulars. For Gothamites, after all, going out to eat is a social activity, a hobby, and an adventure.

Over the past few months, the city has welcomed a number of notable new restaurants well worth the reservation. Below, find the hottest New York City restaurants this spring.

San Sabino (West Village)

Image may contain Food Food Presentation Meal Cutlery Fork Dish Plate Blade Knife Weapon and Pizza

The husband and wife culinary team of Angie Rito and Scott Tacinelli describe San Sabino as “Italian American”—and indeed, their menu includes melting-pot meals like shrimp parmesan, shrimp Louie salad, lobster ravioli, as well as crab and mortadella dip. “We’re just trying to have fun and kind of put a new spin on things,” Rito previously told Vogue. Yet don’t let their delightful unpretentious fool you: their other restaurant, Don Angie, earned a Michelin star in 2021 and remains one of the most sought-after reservations in New York. San Sabino is fun, but also a tastebud tour-de-force deserving of critical acclaim. –Elise Taylor, senior living writer

By Margaux Anbouba

You’d be forgiven for thinking that Cecily was just another well-lit small-plates spot. (Not that there’s anything wrong with that; it’s a New York mainstay for a reason.) But Cecily—the newest venture from the team behind other Brooklyn beloved haunts like The Four Horsemen and Estella—is perhaps the platonic ideal of a modern neighborhood restaurant. The menu, just a dozen dishes long, is deceptively simple: chicory salad, butter beans, winter panzanella, roast chicken. Every dish, every ingredient, is so understandable; no fussy gastronomy here—just some of the best (and most bountiful) plates of food I’ve had in recent memory. Everything is excellent, but the mussel toast—a happy hybrid of moules-frites and a po’ boy—is worth a trip to Greenpoint alone. –Jessie Heyman, executive editor

Demo (West Village)

Image may contain Food Food Presentation Blade Knife Weapon Plate Brunch Dining Table Furniture Table and Meal

Calling Demo a wine bar feels diminutive—although with only forty seats and a great selection of bottles, it very much is. (“Nice night for a Cabernet Franc,” reads a recent Instagram caption.) Yet the pared-back menu is also perfection. Foccacia and olive oil come with anchovies, whereas a crab casino is crusted with Ritz crackers. For heartier fare, opt for a juicy half chicken or lobster au poivre. Just make sure to leave room for the banana pudding. –E.T.

Beef Bar (TriBeCa)

Image may contain Indoors Lamp Architecture Building Dining Room Dining Table Furniture Room Table Plate and Cup

With locations in St. Tropez, Monte Carlo, Mykonos, and Dubai, Beef Bar is a restaurant that caters to a see-and-be-seen clientele—who also happens to enjoy a fine cut of meat. This spring, they put up their velvet rope in front of a 6,000-foot space in Downtown New York. Inside, a dining room with Verde Alpi marble tables awaits, lined with dining chairs upholstered in Pierre Frey fabrics. A lounge, meanwhile, embraces an Art Deco-like interior and includes a DJ booth. As the name implies, steak is the thing to order. But also don’t skip on the street food section of the menu, which features a number of creative yet more casual dishes: think Wagyu beef quesadillas, bao buns, and bite-sized croque monsieurs with ham and mozzarella cheese. –E.T.

Coqodaq (Flatiron)

Image may contain Cup Indoors Architecture Building Furniture Lounge and Interior Design

I haven’t exactly checked in with any analytics agency, but Coqodaq has to be the most Instagrammed New York City restaurant as of late. (Their caviar-covered chicken nuggets are particularly the subject of social media snaps.) Viral food aside, the Simon Kim-run restaurant (of Cote fame) has captured the cultural culinary zeitgeist due to its creative take on Korean fried chicken: patrons order buckets of crispy poultry coated in soy sauce garlic or gochujang glaze, along with traditional American sides like mac and cheese or coleslaw. The result? An evening of cultural crossed, elevated comfort food. The interiors are also impressive: the David Rockwell-designed restaurant boasts grand illuminated arches, green velvet banquettes, and the most beautiful hand-washing station you’ve ever seen. —E.T.

Theodora (Fort Greene)

Image may contain Indoors Restaurant Architecture Building Dining Room Dining Table Furniture Room Table and Cafe

My neighborhood of Fort Greene, Brooklyn, has seen a fleet of buzzy openings in the past few years—the Milanese-inspired Saraghina, the impossibly popular Sailor—and now, to tucked-away 7 Greene Avenue, comes Theodora, which already has the area swooning. There’s a good reason for the fuss: the restaurant is from chef Tomer Blechman of Miss Ada (another local hotspot) and delivers a dynamic, seafood-forward Mediterranean menu. Hype can be a dangerous thing (how can a little radish possibly live up to all that pressure?), but I can happily say that in Theodora’s case, it’s entirely deserved. The restaurant is immediately transporting (the decor is Mexico City meets Tel Aviv) and the food feels just as special. You’ll be tempted to pull out your phone—especially to capture the za’atar kubaneh, a cinnamon bun-style savory pastry served with three dips—but mostly you’ll be too busy eating. The whole menu is a knock-out, just make sure you save room for dessert: a deconstructed baklava sundae with tahini ice cream. –J.H.

Biden visits his Pennsylvania hometown to call for more taxes on the rich and cast Trump as elitist

President biden has begun three straight days of campaigning in pennsylvania in his childhood hometown of scranton.

President Biden gestured during a campaign event in Scranton, Pa., on Tuesday.

SCRANTON, Pa. — President Biden returned to his working-class childhood hometown of Scranton on Tuesday to call for higher taxes on the rich and cast Donald Trump as an out-of-touch elitist, part of an attempt to blunt the populist appeal of his predecessor’s comeback bid.

Biden’s stop opened three straight days of campaigning in the critical battleground state of Pennsylvania while his opponent spends much of the week in a New York City courtroom for his first criminal trial.

Biden used Scranton, a city of roughly 75,000 people, as the backdrop to argue that getting rich in America is fine, but should come with heftier tax bills. He dismissed Trump, the presumptive Republican nominee and a billionaire, as a tool of wealthy interests.

It’s all aimed at reframing the conversation around the economy, which has left many Americans feeling sour about their financial situations at a time of stubborn inflation and elevated interest rates despite low unemployment.

“When I look at the economy, I don’t look at it through the eyes of Mar-a-Lago. I look at it through the eyes of Scranton," the president said, contrasting his modest upbringing with the Florida estate where the former president now lives.

Biden has proposed a 25 percent percent minimum tax rate for billionaires, which he said would swell federal coffers by hundreds of billions of dollars. He added that such levies are “how we invest in the country.”

“Scranton values or Mar-a-Lago values," Biden said. "These are the competing visions for our economy that raise questions of fundamental fairness at the heart of this campaign.” He spoke at a community center from a stage flanked by a banner reading “Tax Fairness for All Americans.”

Biden was taking part in a training session for grassroots organizers at a union hall before swinging by his old house, which has served as a touchstone for him through the years, according to a person familiar with the plans who declined to be identified ahead of Biden’s arrival.

By the time the week is over, Biden or Vice President Kamala Harris will have visited the state eight times this year, reflecting its importance to Biden’s hopes for a second term.

Mayorkas impeachment articles delivered to Senate

WASHINGTON — After two months of delay, House Republicans on Tuesday delivered articles of impeachment against Alejandro Mayorkas, the homeland security secretary, to the Senate, as they demanded a full trial.

Constitutional scholars have called the case against Mayorkas groundless, and the Democrats who control the Senate have made it clear that they want to curtail a lengthy trial in favor of a quick vote to dismiss the charges against him. But Republicans have pushed ahead with the articles, which accuse the secretary of willfully refusing to enforce border laws and breaching the public trust.

“For the last nearly four years, we’ve seen Secretary Mayorkas willfully cede operational control of our border to drug cartels,” Speaker Mike Johnson said on Tuesday, describing the chaos at the country’s southern border as he urged the Senate to take up the case.

He accused Mayorkas and President Biden of intentionally failing in their responsibilities to secure the border.

“He and Joe Biden engineered this catastrophe,” Johnson said. “They allowed it. They apparently desired it.”

On Tuesday afternoon, the 11 House Republicans named to prosecute the case against Mayorkas made the ceremonial walk across the Capitol to present the charges, which they read aloud on the floor.

The Republican case against Mayorkas does not accuse him of any specific criminal conduct, but rather amounts to an attempt to fire an administration official who is enforcing policies they oppose, and who they argue is failing at his job. That is a far cry from the “high crimes and misdemeanors” laid out in the Constitution as the basis for an impeachment.

A two-thirds majority would be needed to convict him in the Senate, an unachievable threshold given that Democrats are solidly opposed.

For his part, Mayorkas has spent months essentially ignoring the case and continuing to work. He negotiated a border security deal with both Senate Republicans and Democrats that fell apart after former president Trump opposed it.

“Our immigration system, however, is fundamentally broken,” he said. “Only Congress can fix it. Congress has not updated our immigration enforcement laws since 1996 — 28 years ago.”

Lindell loses bid to challenge FBI seizure

ST. PAUL, Minn. — The US Supreme Court has denied a petition by MyPillow founder and election denier Mike Lindell to consider his challenge to the legality of the FBI’s seizure of his cellphone at a restaurant drive-through.

The high court, without comment Monday, declined to reconsider three lower court rulings that went against Lindell, a prominent promoter of false claims that voting machines were manipulated to steal the 2020 presidential election from President Donald Trump.

FBI agents seized the cellphone from him at a Hardee’s fast-food restaurant in the southern Minnesota city of Mankato in 2022 as part of an investigation into an alleged scheme to breach voting system technology in Mesa County, Colorado. Lindell alleged the confiscation violated his constitutional rights against unlawful search and seizure and was an attempt by the government to chill his freedom of speech.

The Eighth Circuit Court of Appeals disagreed.

Cotton urges physical force against protesters

WASHINGTON — Senator Tom Cotton, Republican of Arkansas, on Monday urged people whose routes were blocked by pro-Palestinian protesters to “take matters into your own hands” and confront the offenders, endorsing the use of physical force against peaceful demonstrators.

In a series of social media posts after protesters shut down traffic in cities across the country including major roads in Oakland, Calif., the Golden Gate Bridge in San Francisco, and near O’Hare International Airport in Chicago, Cotton called those responsible “pro-Hamas” and “criminals.”

He also shared a clip of himself during a recent interview in which he said that if protesters had disrupted public roads in his home state of Arkansas, they would have been met with force from citizens.

“Let’s just say I think there would be a lot of very wet criminals that would have been tossed overboard — not by law enforcement, but by the people whose road they are blocking,” he told Fox News in the interview. “If they glued their hands to their car or pavement, it’d probably be pretty painful to have their skin ripped off.”

On Tuesday morning, Cotton posted a video showing a group of men forcibly removing protesters in orange vests from a roadway that appeared to be outside the United States. In the clip, one man is shown roughly dragging a protester off the road by his feet.

“How it should be done,” Cotton wrote.

His comments came as protesters angry over US support for Israel’s offensive in the Gaza Strip have stepped up their civil disobedience in recent days.

Michigan Republican charged with misusing funds

LANSING, Mich. — Prosecutors charged the former leader of the Michigan House and his wife with financial crimes Tuesday, alleging they milked political accounts for personal travel, housing, and other benefits while the Republican lawmaker was raising millions of dollars from his powerful post.

Lee Chatfield misused various political funds, including his multimillion-dollar Peninsula Fund, which was not required to report the names of donors and served as an “unregulated slush fund,” Attorney General Dana Nessel said.

The operation was a family affair, as his wife, Stephanie Chatfield, monitored her husband’s credit card balance and paid it off with cash from the Peninsula Fund, including $132,000 over a 14-month period, Nessel said.

In another example, Nessel said Lee Chatfield’s brother cashed a $5,000 check from a political fund in 2020 and returned $3,500 to the lawmaker ahead of a vacation, Nessel said.

Lee Chatfield’s various political funds took in more than $5 million over six years, including more than $2 million in 2020, which was his last year as speaker, the attorney general said.

“To call him, as many have, a prodigious fund-raiser would not be an exaggeration,” Nessel said.

Lee Chatfield faces 13 charges, including conducting a criminal enterprise, which carries a maximum prison sentence of 20 years, and embezzlement.

Chatfield’s attorney, Mary Chartier, said she’ll fight the charges “each and every step of the way.”
