The English Problem

When you want to explore England, it can be difficult to know where to start. There are many beautiful parts of England and loads of different things to do. Luckily, there are plenty of tour companies that offer coach tours and guided tours of the most popular destinations. Whether it’s for history, culture, or simply pleasure, England has something to offer everyone. There are so many things to do in England, everything from visiting castles to sampling local delicacies to taking in the natural beauty of the countryside. Some tours show you famous filming locations in England, whilst others focus on gardens or country houses. All coach tours are guided by a friendly tour guide who is full of local knowledge. It’s the perfect way to see England whilst learning more about this historical and stunning country.

Discover England

Take a fabulous coach tour and enjoy what this truly unique land has to offer. Explore the many historic cities, picturesque villages and coastal towns, and take in the lush green countryside and colourful rambling moors. You could start your tour in London, England’s capital, and spend a few days finding your way around this amazing and iconic city. Don’t forget to explore the many outstanding museums, and book a guided tour to get the most out of them. One of added bonuses of some London museums is the free admission, but donations are welcome. In the evening enjoy a West End Show, or soak up the vibrant atmosphere in the many bars and restaurants.

The Queen is at Home

Not far away from London is Windsor Castle, residence of The Queen and the largest lived in castle in the world. Similar to Buckingham Palace, you get a chance to see the Changing of the Guard at Windsor Castle as well as the tombs of past royalty including Charles I, Henry VIII and one of his wives, Jane Seymour. Further north, a few hours drive away is the city of York which is entrenched in history and must be explored when visiting England. Vikings, Romans and King Richard III, York has seen it all, and continues to be one of Britain’s most popular tourist destinations. Enjoy high tea at the iconic Betty’s or dare to take a ghost walk and guided tour through the medieval Snickelways of York, an array of narrow passageway and hidden alleyways.

Roman Bath Anyone?

Visit the historic city of Bath, famous for its Georgian architecture and natural hot springs. See the extraordinarily Roman Baths and Pump Room, built by the Romans and still beautifully preserved after 2,000 years. Take a guided tour around this exquisite city and be prepared to be amazed. You can’t visit England without a trip to Salisbury Plain to see Stonehenge. This prehistoric monument was first built around 5,000 years ago and has stood the test of time to provide wonder to generations of people. Discover the history and theories about this famous stone circle in the visitor centre and be enchanted by the mystery of the whole place.

Time for a Cream Tea

Devon & Cornwall are also a must see when visiting England. Renowned for tasty pasties and cream teas, the beauty of this area is truly outstanding. Take a coach trip to Land’s End, the most westerly point of Britain, and view the stunning St Michael’s Mount. Not far is the Minack Theatre, an open-air theatre which has been carved into the granite cliff and is quite a sight to behold. The seaside town of St. Ives is also a beautiful place to explore and maybe pick up a piece of art to remember it by. It can be guaranteed that any place you wish to visit in England will be remembered with great fondness for a very long time. For the more adventurous, Cornwall has some of the best surf beaches in the UK and we can arrange a lesson for you.

Mostly really good! Tour director was knowledgeable and very good at handling details. Coach driver was excellent. A memorable experience for sure!

England, Scotland & Wales Tour

England, Scotland & Wales

The trip as a once in a lifetime experience for my best friend and I. It was our first time travelling to Europe together, and our first time on a Cosmos tour... and we will definitely be doing more trips like these in the future. The accommodations were great and so was our itinerary. We were slightly disappointed that we couldn't go to Stonehenge due to the summer solstice, but our tour guide, Oshan, made sure we got to see some other fantastic and unique stone circles in many places we went. Our vacation was truly incredible!

Best of Britain - 10 Days/9 Nights

Everything was great. The only issues were with some of the hotels. One room smelled like smoke and one the shower was clogged. Also, the breakfasts were great. A suggestion for dinners though would be to offer a basic dinner option for picky eaters. Harry our tour guide was awesome. We really liked him. Dennis our bus driver, drove through the narrow streets like a pro. Both were very pleasant, professional and made our tour an amazing vacation!

Britain Sampler Tour

Britain Sampler

This is the first time ever being out of the country and joining a tour. This was the best vacation! I took my daughter with me and we both had an amazing time. Our tour guide Gillian was the best, she was a wealth of information and did a fantastic job. Joe our bus driver was an excellent driver and always smiling. England and Scotland were amazing!! We did the Britain Sampler and saw way more places than we would have seen on our own. I highly recommend going on a tour. And my daughter and I will take another.

The Wonders of Wales Tour

The Wonders of Wales

Great knowledgeable tour guide and an especially talented driver. Both teamed up to work around unpredictable weather. Almost every stop on our tour was a highlight. Outstanding accommodations too!

Great Britain Christmas Tour

Great Britain Christmas

Overall the tour was excellent and provided a good, albeit brief, overview of Great Britain. Some of the highlights were punting down the river in Cambridge, stopping in beautiful Inverness, listening to a Beatles tribute band in the famous Cavern Club, and walking through the beautiful streets of Bath. Our tour leader, Kaeleigh, was informative and upbeat and provided necessary information in each city. Although it also seemed as though she was left to handle a lot of mishaps that were mostly caused by misbookings by the main office. In our stop in the Highlands, four of us had to stay in a hotel over a half hour away from the rest of the group due to an overbooking. We also arrived in many cities to have most of the sights closed - understandably as it was the Christmas period but it would have been nice if this had been clearly stated on the itinerary when booking. It was a great tour with a friendly group and helpful guide and driver, but it doesn't seem like the company really has their act together. Some better pre-planning would have made our trip spot on.

Delta updates how it boards passengers

FILE - In this June 26, 2019, file photo, the company logo graces the side of a Delta Air...

(CNN) - What’s old is new again as Delta Airlines returns to numbered zones for boarding.

Delta abandoned the idea of zones in 2019 and started calling passengers by category names.

Those categories aren’t changing, but they’ll be assigned zones.

So, starting next month, passengers will be in zones one through eight, which will be printed on boarding passes.

Boarding airplanes is a universally chaotic and frequently derided process in the United States.

United claims it saves two minutes by boarding window seat passengers first, then middle seats and aisle seats last.

That’s a bit closer to computer modeling, which has shown the most efficient way to board is every other row by seat position. It’s considered too complex to work in the real world, though.

SA Rugby hits back in row over Bulls’ travel chaos ahead of Northampton clash

Complaints of South Africa franchise dismissed amid difficult planning logistics for Saturday’s Champions Cup match with Northampton

Jake White, Director of Rugby of Vodacom Bulls/Bulls hit out at travel chaos for Northampton clash as players split across eight different flights

SA Rugby has rejected claims by Bulls director Jake White that it was responsible for travel chaos affecting his players ahead of the Investec Champions Cup quarter-final against Northampton Saints this weekend.

White had suggested that his players would be split across eight different airlines to reach England in time for kick-off. It had also been reported that eight members of the squad, just over half of White’s starters, would fly overnight and arrive on Wednesday morning, with others hoping to arrive in the United Kingdom via Frankfurt, Paris, Doha, Dubai, Amsterdam, Zurich and Birmingham.

But SA Rugby revealed on Tuesday night that it supplied the Bulls with flights to England worth around £175,000 and insisted that the playing squad would be able to reach the United Kingdom on Wednesday morning, saying its own actions represented “the best possible outcome in the circumstances”.

A statement said: “Media are advised that SA Rugby provided 38 flights for the Vodacom Bulls Investec Champions Cup quarter-final squad – 33 in business class and five in economy class. The playing squad will arrive in London before 08h00 local time on Wednesday having travelled overnight in business class on two airlines: British Airways (24 players and management) and Lufthansa (four players and management).

“The coach and CEO also flew directly to London overnight on Virgin in business class. The balance of eight of the tour squad (four management and four players) travelled via Zurich, Doha, and Dubai. Media will appreciate that the high demand for business class seats in and out of South Africa, allied to the reduced number of flights into the country and the late confirmation of the required seats made it well-known to all parties that securing business class seats on a single flight would be impossible.

“Pre-booking seats was discounted as an option in view of the potential risk of loss of 100 per cent of the flight cost for a group booking, should it not be required as it was unknown until 48 hours before departure whether the Vodacom Bulls would qualify, or be playing home or away (in the event of qualification).

“SA Rugby believes that the flights sourced by SA Rugby for the Vodacom Bulls represent the very best outcome it was possible to achieve in the circumstances.”

‘If we want to be the best we need to get these things right’

White had been scathing of the travel chaos on Tuesday morning. “It’s not ideal,” he said. “I’ve said it before that if you are in a high-performance sport and you want to be competitive, there aren’t many sporting teams that would leave on eight different airlines on a Tuesday evening to play a Saturday night game.

“For whatever reason and I’m sure the powers that be will sort it out, but it isn’t what was expected. We were sold that it is an overnight flight and that is why we are playing in Europe. Two weeks ago we went to Leinster and it took us 28 hours to get to Dublin and 27 hours to get back. Whether we like it or not, it comes at a cost - whether we fly business class or not. And we are very fortunate, our board pays for business class for the starting 23, which is a fantastic gesture on their behalf and it is a bonus.

“But no sporting team flies 28 hours with eight different airplanes. Some land at 9, some land at 2. If you are talking about a competition where you want to be the best in the world, that doesn’t add up. And I’m not going to stop saying it: if we want to be the best we need to get those things right.”

Bulls dismissed Lyon 59-19 to set up a date with Northampton, scoring nine tries in the process. However, White explained that a bruising encounter caused enough collateral damage without the ensuing logistics bringing further problems.

“We leave Tuesday,” White added. “In an ideal world I would have loved to leave on Wednesday night and land on Thursday, and [would have] been able to prepare Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday.

“When you leave on Tuesday, and guys are sore after a tough game on the weekend, it is difficult. People assume that because the score was 59-19 it was an easy game, but those games can sometimes be a tougher fixture than winning 15-10. Monday they are a bit sore, and Tuesday you try and do as much prep as you can. You get there Wednesday and you can’t have two teams train each other because you don’t have so many players on tour.”

Win or lose, Bulls will have to return home soon after the meeting with Northampton because they have a United Rugby Championship fixture against Munster at Loftus Versfeld on April 20. Phil Dowson, White’s counterpart at Saints, acknowledged that the South Africans had been thrust into a highly difficult situation.

“It’s tough,” Dowson said. “As a coaching team, all you want to do is give your playing group the best chance to perform and that makes it tricky. I feel for Jake and the rest of that crew trying to put those logistics together.”
