Head to St. Augustine if you and your soul mate appreciate history. Start your visit exploring Ponce de Leon's Fountain of Youth Archaeological Park, where you and your significant other can drink from the mythical spring early settlers believed had anti-aging properties. Then, spend some time at the aptly named Old Jail before visiting the town's famous Castillo de San Marcos National Monument. Round out your trip by signing up for one of St. Augustine's spooky ghost tours .

If you and your beau would rather explore at your own pace, plan a leisurely stroll up and down St. George Street. This downtown, pedestrian-only thoroughfare is lined with old-world structures that house boutique shops, eateries and art galleries, including local favorites like Whetstone Chocolates and the Spanish Bakery & Café. Later, you'll have the chance to fall in love all over again on a romantic sunset cruise , amid a horse-drawn carriage ride or after climbing to the top of the St. Augustine Lighthouse.

Where to stay: After a day of sightseeing, share a bottle of wine and gourmet international cuisine at lovebird-approved restaurants like Collage and Michael's before retreating to one of several enchanting properties located within the town center. The Collector Luxury Inn & Gardens boasts impeccable service, beautiful grounds, and well-appointed rooms and suites, which feature charming details like fireplaces, coquina walls and rain showers; verandas are also offered in select suites.

Meanwhile, the Casa Monica Resort & Spa , an Autograph Collection property, appeals to couples in search of old-world charm, spacious accommodations and an exclusive atmosphere (thanks in part to the pool cabanas and private beach club).

Bungalows Key Largo: Key Largo

Florida resorts

Located on the sun-kissed island of Key Largo, around 70 miles south of Miami, Bungalows Key Largo appeals to couples in search of an adults-only, all-inclusive escape . One of few all-inclusive resorts in Florida, the resort offers luxuries spanning an in-town courtesy car to complimentary valet parking, along with amenities such as free cruiser bikes and daily yoga sessions. While here, go for a dip in one of two outdoor pools, relax on 1,000 feet of private beach, or get out on the water in one of the resort's kayaks or paddleboards. For an additional cost, lovebirds can even pamper themselves with decadent treatments like a bamboo massage or mineral bath at the resort's on-site spa.

For dinner, enjoy coastal Mexican cuisine with your beau underneath a bevy of palm trees at the beachfront Sea Señor restaurant, then grab a cocktail under the Sunset Tiki Bar's thatched roof. When you're ready to bed down, you'll get to kick back in an exclusive bungalow that comes with a pillow-top mattress, rain shower and private veranda with a soaking tub. All bungalows feature garden or ocean views, but for a separate sitting area with a sofa bed, opt for the King Bungalow. For additional romantic perks, Bungalows Key Largo offers vacation packages for special occasions ranging from honeymoons and babymoons to engagement and elopement celebrations. With the popular "Romance Package," couples will receive extras like chocolate-covered strawberries, a bottle of sparkling wine and rose petals upon arrival.

Little Palm Island Resort & Spa: Little Torch Key

Twosomes who crave peace and quiet will love visiting Little Palm Island Resort & Spa , a Noble House property. Located roughly 25 miles northeast of Key West on Little Torch Key, this adults-only property is solely accessible by seaplane or boat. Inside all of the British West Indies-inspired bungalow suites, visitors will discover details like vaulted ceilings, private decks and indoor-outdoor showers. Dial up the romance even further by adding on a turndown package that includes perks like a bottle of Champagne, a drawn bath for two and chocolate-covered strawberries. But while the resort is certainly laden with luxury, what makes Little Palm Island's suites ideal for couples is what they lack: Guests won't find TVs or telephones inside the accommodations, an intentional move by the resort to help travelers disconnect from everyday stress.

When you're ready to venture outside your digs, you can arrange off-site fishing excursions, scuba diving outings and more through the concierge or take advantage of the resort's countless amenities. The on-site spa offers a variety of treatments, including couples massages and an aromatherapy bath, while the beach is the place to go for activities like paddleboarding and kayaking. The outdoor pool also features front-row views of the ocean, lounge chairs, and a bar that serves tropical cocktails and casual bites. For more substantial meals showcasing fresh seafood, grab a bite to eat in the resort's dining room. Enhance the mood even further by arranging a private dinner on the beach at sunset.

The Don CeSar: St. Pete Beach

Romantic getaways Florida

Opened in the late 1920s as a tribute to real estate scion Thomas Rowe's lost love, The Don CeSar regularly welcomes vacationing couples to St. Pete Beach, a community just west of St. Petersburg . Upon entering the "Pink Palace," you and your sweetheart will feel as if you've stepped back in time thanks to the property's old-Florida details, such as retro tile floors, wicker furnishings and palm leaf print. This Roaring '20s vibe is especially apparent in the lobby bar, which plays live jazz music and serves a selection of sophisticated cocktails and small plates. For a more romantic setting, grab a sweet treat at the ice cream parlor before enjoying a sunset, or cuddle by one of The Rowe Bar's outdoor fire pits. Maritana, the main restaurant, is the place to go if your ideal date night involves dressing up and savoring gourmet seafood.

Later, you can go for a dip in one of two heated outdoor pools, pamper yourselves at the full-service spa or borrow loaner bicycles to check out nearby attractions like Fort De Soto Park, a 1,136-acre park that sits a little more than 5 miles south of the property. When it's time to bed down, you and your partner will enjoy charming digs decorated with blush-pink tones and beds dressed in plush linens. Some previous guests said basic rooms are small, so for more elbow room, reserve one of the hotel's penthouses, whose two-story layouts come with kitchenettes and furnished balconies.

Begin your vacation sunbathing at Lummus Park, or head north to Haulover Park for some fun in the sun sans clothing. If you and your partner would rather get out on the water than gaze at it from the shore, you can sign up for a private sailing charter ; take to the skies on a parasailing trip ; or rent water sports equipment like paddleboards, Jet Skis and powerboats through a reputable outfitter like Miami Tours & Water Adventures.

After soaking up some rays, get a dose of contemporary art at The Bass – a top Miami-area museum – then explore the lush Miami Beach Botanical Garden or admire the incredible structures that constitute the Art Deco Historic District on a guided tour. If your stomachs start to grumble, sit down for an Italian-inspired meal in Casa Tua's garden; the tropical plants, hanging lanterns and candles will help set the mood. Another top dining option involves savoring plates of salmon tartare, wagyu beef gyoza or truffle risotto at the rooftop restaurant Juvia.

Where to stay: In the evening, hang your hats at Fontainebleau Miami Beach , one of the best hotels in the city. Past guests praised the attentive staff and clean accommodations (which include amenities like iMac computers and minibars) but said it was the property's on-site facilities that set it apart from the rest. Duos can swim in one of 11 pools, lounge on the beach and enjoy a luxurious spa treatment, among other activities.

Few Florida destinations are as serene and laid-back as Sanibel Island , which continues to make a remarkable recovery following damages sustained from Hurricane Ian in 2022. Situated about 25 miles southwest of Fort Myers on Florida's Gulf Coast, Sanibel Island appeals to couples seeking rest and relaxation. While there are no shortage of fun activities – such as shopping along Periwinkle Way or bird-watching at the J.N. You may also want to prioritize Hugh Taylor Birch State Park, a lush oasis in the heart of the city where couples can rent tandem kayaks and pedal boats. 7. Clearwater Beach

Clearwater Beach is one of the warmest beaches in Florida in December.

Clearwater Beach is a romantic paradise, offering a wide range of activities that couples will love.

From relaxing on the pristine white sands and enjoying the clear, emerald waters, to experiencing unique adventures like parasailing and stand-up paddleboarding, there’s something for every couple here.

8. Fort Lauderdale

Las Olas beach- Fort Lauderdale

With a nickname of the “Venice of America”, you can be sure that Fort Lauderdale is one of the best places for couples in Florida.

Downtown Fort Lauderdale is another must-visit for couples, where you can enjoy wine tasting, romantic meals, and vibrant nightlife along Las Olas Boulevard , or take in the beauty and culture of Riverwalk Fort Lauderdale .

For an even more intimate date, we recommend going for a Jungle Queen riverboat cruise where you’ll enjoy dinner and a show while taking in nightly views of the city.

Cars on Fifth avenue in Downtown Naples at night

Naples might come as a surprise for many, but before ruling it out as one of the best places to visit in Florida for couples, hear us out!

It combines beautiful Gulf Coast beaches, luxurious dining, golf courses, and serene sunset walks along Naples Pier to create a romantic setting.

For couples who have a penchant for art, Naples doesn’t disappoint either! You’ll find lots of galleries, museums, and theatres.

But if you’re more of an outdoor couple, then Naples presents an opportunity to visit the Everglades National Park since it’s just a mere 1-hour drive away.

And when you feel like shopping, Fifth Avenue South is the perfect place to go. It has both famous shopping chains and local stores that sell everything from jewelry to handcrafted products. And of course, the dining options are many too.

12. Fort Walton Beach

Fort Walton Beach is the nearest city to Destin Florida.

The first entry on our list of couple’s getaways in Florida in the Panhandle area is Fort Walton Beach.

If you’re imagining walking hand in hand with your bae along pristine beaches, and the emerald waters of the Gulf of Mexico stretching out before you, then you’re not imagining it wrong! That’s exactly what this city offers!

What makes Fort Walton Beach stand out from other Florida romantic vacations is not only its stunning natural beauty but also the cozy, laid-back vibe.

Whether you’re up for a day of adventure, like snorkeling or paddle boarding, or you just want to chill and watch the sunset, this place has it all.

For those who love to explore, the city is dotted with charming little shops and seafood restaurants that offer a taste of the local flavor.

And let’s not forget the accommodations — from luxurious resorts to cute beachfront cottages, there’s a romantic spot for every budget.

13. Anna Maria Island

couple trip ideas in florida

We may biased since it’s one of our favorite islands but Anna Maria Island is a cool place that totally nails the romantic getaway vibe without trying too hard.

From miles of beautiful beaches that are not overrun by crowds to the powdered sugar sand, and the clear waters, it’s safe to say that this is one of the most romantic beach getaways in Florida.

The island itself is also like stepping into a quieter, slower-paced world with the old Florida charm. We’re talking cute beach bungalows, no skyscraper hotels blocking the sunset views, and streets that feel more golf cart than car-friendly.

This keeps things intimate and personal, which is exactly what you want when you’re trying to spend quality time with your loved one.

Food-wise, it’s a seafood lover’s dream. Fresh catches every day, and dining spots range from super laid-back to a bit more upscale, but still keeping that island-style vibe.

And if you want to go out and explore, you can easily rent kayaks, try paddleboarding, or even go on a dolphin-watching tour or a snorkeling tour in one of the many snorkeling spots on Anna Maria Island .

14. St. Augustine

St. Augustine, Florida, USA city hall and Alcazar Courtyard.

St. Augustine is the oldest city in the nation, so every cobblestone street and ancient building has a story to tell.

What’s unique about St. Augustine is its blend of old-world charm and laid-back Florida vibe.

You’ve got Castillo de San Marcos , a massive fortress that’s been standing guard since the 1600s, offering views and history lessons you won’t find just anywhere.

Walking around the city feels a bit like time-traveling, except you can still grab a modern-day artisan coffee or craft beer along the way.

The city is compact, making it perfect for wandering hand in hand, discovering hidden gardens, quaint shops, and art galleries. The Spanish architecture adds to the romance, with balconies overflowing with flowers and streets that light up with lanterns at night.

For a bit of an adventure, you can climb the St. Augustine Lighthouse for some incredible views, or even take a ghost tour at night if you’re up for a little thrill.

Foodies will love it here, too. St. Augustine has a culinary scene that punches way above its weight, with everything from cozy cafes to upscale dining, all infused with local flavors and a bit of that Spanish flair.

Let’s not forget the beaches. Just a short drive from the city center, you’ve got miles of beautiful coastline to explore, perfect for a day of sunbathing, swimming, or just taking a leisurely walk.

And if your romantic getaway falls in December, you’ll be treated to some of the best Christmas lights in Florida during The Nights Of Lights event.

15. Sarasota

Summer in Lido Beach, Florida

Sarasota is this vibrant spot on Florida’s Gulf Coast that’s got a bit of everything. Although it’s famous for its soft white sand beaches, it offers much more than that.

For couples who appreciate art, you can start your day by strolling through the Ringling Museum . The place is massive and full of wonders, from breathtaking art to quirky circus memorabilia. And the gardens? Absolutely stunning.

Then, there’s the food. Sarasota’s dining scene is something to write home about. You’ve got options ranging from waterfront dining spots where you can watch the sunset over a plate of fresh seafood, to cozy downtown eateries that serve up everything from gourmet dishes to the best comfort food.

But let’s circle back to those beaches because they deserve the spotlight. Siesta Key Beach is the star, with quartz-crystal sand that’s like sugar, which is the perfect spot for a lazy beach day or a romantic sunset walk.

You can also go kayaking through the mangroves, take a sailboat out for the day, or explore the local shops and galleries for some unique finds.

16. Key Largo

Key Largo is one of the best Florida island vacations.

Key Largo , the first stop in the Florida Keys, is like the front door to a paradise that stretches all the way down to Key West.

It’s known as the Diving Capital of the World, and for good reason. The underwater world here is just mesmerizing, with the John Pennekamp Coral Reef State Park offering an underwater wonderland that’s unlike anything else.

You can go diving or snorkeling together among the coral reefs, historic shipwrecks, and a variety of colorful fish.

Back on land, Key Largo has this laid-back island vibe that any couple would appreciate.

The sunsets are legendary, and the dining scene leans heavily on its proximity to the sea, with fresh seafood available at nearly every turn. From casual fish shacks serving up the catch of the day to romantic waterfront restaurants where you can dine with your feet in the sand.

The Everglades National Park is also just a short drive away where you can go on a kayak tour through the mangroves or on an airboat!

On Key Largo, you can easily choose the kind of vacation you want — be it relaxation or exploration.

17. St. Pete Beach

The Don CeSar, St. Pete Beach

St. Pete Beach is that city on Florida’s Gulf Coast where it feels like the sun is always shining, and the beach is always calling.

It’s got an award-winning status for its beaches, and once you step foot on its soft, white sand and look out at the crystal-clear waters, you’ll understand why.

It’s the perfect place for couples to kick back, soak in some rays, and just enjoy the laid-back beach life.

But St. Pete Beach isn’t just about lounging on the sand (though we wouldn’t blame you if that’s all you wanted to do).

The area is dotted with a variety of spots to eat and drink, from casual beach bars where you can sip a cocktail with your toes in the sand to upscale eateries where you can enjoy a romantic dinner with a view.

For those who like a bit of history and culture mixed into their beach getaway, the nearby city of St. Petersburg offers up some gems like The Salvador Dalí Museum which houses the largest collection of Dalí’s works outside of Spain.

Other activities you can enjoy as a couple in St. Pete Beach include paddleboarding, parasailing, and windsurfing. Or, if you prefer to stay on land, renting bikes and exploring the area’s many trails is a great way to spend a day.

18. Seaside

Seaside is one of the best weekend trips from Florida.

Located on the Emerald Coast, Seaside pretty much feels like you’ve walked onto a movie set—because, well, you kind of have.

Remember “The Truman Show”? That’s Seaside for you, but the real-life version is even better.

It has a mix of old-school beach town charm and modern, laid-back luxury with pastel-colored houses, making it one of the most romantic weekend getaways in Florida for couples looking for something a bit different.

What’s cool about Seaside is how it’s designed. Everything is super walkable. You can stroll from cute boutique shops to amazing food spots without ever needing a car.

And it wouldn’t be seaside without stunning beaches with crystal-clear waters and sugar-white sand.

This resort city is also alive with culture. There’s always something happening, from outdoor concerts to art shows, accompanied by al fresco dining.

So, if you’re looking for romantic getaways in Florida that combine the beaches with the charm of a close-knit community, Seaside is your spot.

19. New Smyrna Beach

New Smyrna Beach is one of the cheap Florida weekend getaways.

Unlike other Florida getaways for couples, New Smyrna Beach somehow manages to fly under the radar.

With miles of sand beaches, it’s a paradise for surfers, sunbathers, and couples looking for a bit of romance without the crowds.

One of the coolest things about New Smyrna Beach is its artsy side. The place is dotted with galleries, murals, and boutiques that give it a creative flair you might not expect from a beach town.

Strolling down Canal Street or Flagler Avenue , you can pop into an art show, grab a craft coffee, or find that perfect, quirky souvenir to take home.

But let’s talk about the beach because that’s a big part of the draw. The waves here are some of the best in Florida for surfing, making it a great spot to try out riding the waves together or just watching the surfers do their thing. And with so much coastline, finding a quiet spot for a beach day won’t be a problem.

When it comes to dining, New Smyrna Beach has a laid-back vibe that’s all about fresh, local eats. Seafood lovers will be in heaven here, with local spots serving up the day’s catch right off the boat.

And for those evenings when you want something a bit more intimate, there are plenty of cozy restaurants where you can enjoy a meal under the stars.

Adventure is never far away in New Smyrna Beach. Whether it’s exploring the nearby Canaveral National Seashore , going paddleboarding in the Indian River , or discovering the local marine life on a boat tour, there’s always something new to experience together.

20. Little Palm Island Resort & Spa, Little Torch Key

Little Palm Island Resort & Spa, Little Torch Key

Little Palm Island Resort & Spa is an adults-only, exclusive, and almost secret spot in the Florida Keys that feels like it’s straight out of a fancy travel magazine.

The resort is so private that you can only get there by boat or seaplane.

Tiny, private bungalows with thatched roofs tucked away among palm trees are what make this resort even more intimate.

The resort nails the whole ‘deserted island’ fantasy but with all the luxe perks. Think dinners with your toes in the sand, spa treatments that’ll make you forget any real-world stress and views that are all about endless blue water and skies. It’s the perfect place to truly unplug and just enjoy time together.

For couples who want to do more than just lounging, there’s still plenty to do here. From snorkeling, and sailing into the sunset, to exploring the local marine life on eco-tours.

So, if you’re dreaming of a getaway where you can escape the hustle and bustle and just focus on each other, Little Palm Island Resort & Spa is that dream come true.

21. The Henderson Beach Resort, Destin

Henderson Beach Resort Hotel

The Henderson Beach Resort in Destin combines luxury with a laid-back vibe of the Gulf Coast, making it an outstanding contender for couples looking for a romantic getaway in Florida.

Here's a romantic view: the lighthouse at Bill Baggs Cape Florida State Park.

By Kara Franker and Lauren Tjaden

Ready to let sparks fly? Florida is for lovers.

Loads of sunshine, luxurious hotels, the freshest seafood, year-round perfect weather and 825 miles of beaches combine to make a potent romantic elixir.

Against the Sunshine State’s dreamy backdrops, here are 12 great ideas for romantic getaways for couples in Florida.

Don CeSar sunset

Watch the sunset on St. Pete Beach at the Don Cesar Hotel.

1.    Watch the Sunset on St. Pete Beach

St. Pete Beach is a sunset connoisseur’s paradise. And there are no shortage of romantic places in this couples’ escape to sit and enjoy the show. For views that will take your breath away and cold cocktails to go along with it, head to the rooftop of the Hurricane on the Pass-a-Grille section of the beach. Or park your toes in the sand and listen to live music while the sun bids farewell at the Paradise Grille .

Where to Stay

Not only does the Don CeSar Hotel look like a sandcastle, it has a fairytale ambiance that will make you and your partner feel like royalty. Nicknamed the "Pink Palace," this legendary resort is nestled directly on the glistening, white sands of the Gulf of Mexico. Couples can enjoy a barefoot stroll on the beach together and then cool off with a shared ice cream cone from Uncle Andy's Ice Cream Parlor .

When dinnertime rolls around, the Don’s award-winning Maritana Restaurant delivers a romantic place to celebrate your amor, with modern dishes crafted from fresh ingredients sourced from local farms and fishermen. For the ultimate splurge – perhaps if you plan to ask your partner a very special question-- reserve the private dining room.

For an unforgettable date night under the stars and moon, explore St. Pete Beach at night in a glass-bottom, LED lighted kayak made for two on a tour with Sharkey’s . You’ll stop at a mangrove island to bird watch; paddle close to the Pinellas Bayway Bridge lit up at night (the ideal photo op); see fish underwater and even feed them.

2.    Climb the Lighthouse on Key Biscayne

There's nothing more romantic than ascending a spiral staircase and climbing 109 steps in the heart of a historic lighthouse, especially when you're greeted with stunning panoramic ocean views at the top. Built in 1825, the lighthouse at Bill Baggs Cape Florida State Park offers free tours Thursday – Monday, offering a romantic place for your anniversary, or to get down on one knee as a starting point for all the anniversaries to come. Don’t be in a hurry to leave when you’ve finished exploring the lighthouse—the sunsets over the bay are spectacular affairs, perfect for watching while snuggled close to your significant other.

The Ritz-Carlton , stretched along the shimmering, golden-hued sands of the Atlantic on Key Biscayne , is just seven miles from downtown Miami but seems a world away. Soak up the laid-back island vibe, excellent service and delicious waterfront dining options such as Dune Burgers on the Beach , sited near the adult tranquility pool; or  Cantina Beach , a spacious, thatched- roofed restaurant, constructed by the Miccosukee Tribe of Indians. Set against the ocean and complete with plush lounges, tiki torches and a fire pit, the Cantina serves up Mexican fare and promises a selection of 110 premium tequilas.

Climb on a Jet Ski with your honey and hold on tight for a thrilling, guided, one-hour tour along Biscayne Bay. On the Biscayne Bay Jet Ski Tour , you’ll navigate the area’s crystalline waters while taking in expansive views of Miami’s breathtaking waterfront, including the downtown Miami skyline; mansions of the rich and famous; the Venetian Islands; the Port of Miami; and Miami Beach. Along the way, keep your eyes peeled for dolphins, manta rays, sea turtles, manatees and other ocean wildlife. A variety of departure times are available.

3.    Kiss Underwater in the Florida Keys

The 120-mile island chain is home to the continental United States’ only living-coral barrier reef, and offers unparalleled diving and snorkeling experiences. In Key Largo , snorkel your way through schools of brightly colored fish at John Pennekamp Coral Reef State Par k, and visit the Spiegel Grove, a sunken U.S. Navy ship that’s home to its own thriving underwater ecosystem. Go ahead and give her a smooch, the fish won't tell anyone. It's one of the most romantic getaways in Florida.

For a steamy destination, you can’t do better than America’s only private island resort, the adults-only paradise known as Little Palm Island Resort and Spa . Spanning four acres on Little Torch Key and accessible only by boat or seaplane, this resort features Robinson Crusoe-style thatched roofs; luxurious suites with private outdoor hot tubs and decks; World-class cuisine; and an indoor/outdoor spa. You and your beloved will truly unplug: you won’t find televisions or telephones in the guest rooms and public areas. While WiFi is available, ringing phones are taboo here. It’s all about you and your partner.

Embark on an utterly unique, one-and-a-half-hour sightseeing cruise aboard the iconic century-old steam-powered vessel from Humphrey Bogart and Katharine Hepburn’s epic film, "The African Queen," a boat christened with the same name as the movie. The African Queen departs from the Marina Del Mar and travels down the Port Largo Canals to the Atlantic Ocean before turning around to return. If you’re looking for a sizzling-hot amorous experience, the Queen is available for private cruises.

The Most Romantic Hotel in America: Henderson Park Inn

4.    stay in destin at america's most romantic inn.

Voted the #1 Most Romantic Hotel in North America, the adults-only Henderson Park Inn lives up to its reputation with a secluded getaway made for two. The service is outstanding and the views of the Emerald Coast from the sunset deck are spectacular—as they are from the rooms, which feature floor-to-ceiling windows. The BeachWalk Café serves up concoctions like Apalachicola Blackened Shrimp Fettuccini and Blue Crab & Corn Bisque with the Gulf of Mexico as a stunning backdrop—and if that’s not romantic enough, reserve a VIP Toes in the Sand dining experience for the date of a lifetime. You’ll be seated at a private table directly on the sand to savor dinner, dessert, and drinks in true barefoot luxury. With amenities like a daily happy hour, complimentary beach cruiser bicycles, and a spa that vows to spoil you, love is always in the Henderson’s clean ocean breeze.

Visit Ponce de Leon’s Fountain of Youth Archaeological Park , where you can experience the oldest continuous European settlement in the U.S.; take a sip of the magic elixir at The Spring House , home to Ponce de Leon’s Spring of Eternal Hope, flowing forth for centuries; and even hold your wedding there , harmonizing your love story with the Fountain of Youth’s legend… a supreme match.

6.    Eat Oysters on St. George Island

Remote St. George Island is a 28-mile, unspoiled Florida barrier island, a serene and pet-friendly vacation paradise perfect for couples who love nature and the best that it offers—award winning beaches, ocean breezes and star-gazing without the glare of the city lights. Located just 20 minutes from Apalachicola , you'll find these tasty little aphrodisiacs at eclectic oyster shacks throughout the island, including Paddy’s Raw Bar , Harry A’s on the Bay , and the Beach Pit .

Rent your own romantic (and private) beach house in this secluded part of Florida, also known as The Forgotten Coast. Check out options from the area’s visitors services .

Treat your beloved to an epic sunset dolphin cruise with Journeys of St. George . In this romantic rendezvous, guides take travelers out on a small boat, which carries no more than six people, to watch dolphins frolic in the waves created by the Journeys powerboats. Often, bald eagles, ospreys, herons, and jumping fish make appearances as well. And get this! Guests have the opportunity to swim with the dolphins within the wake of the boat.

7.    Explore the Florida Everglades

If your idea of a romantic getaway in Florida includes becoming one with nature, then the  10,000 Islands National Wildlife Refuge is an amazingly romantic place to visit. Located between Marco Island and Everglades City , the 35,000-acre refuge is home to immense mangrove forests, some 200 species of fish and 189 bird species, plus a diverse array of mammals, from river otters to bottle-nosed dolphins.

The definitive romantic escape for outdoor lovers is the Rod & Gun Club in Everglades City , once a playground for some of the world’s wealthiest and most influential people. Step into a time-warp with a visit to the historic, white lodge, with the ambience – and all the furniture –from the turn of the century. Couples can enjoy fishing in the Everglades or in the Barron River; indulge in top-class meals in the dining room or on the porch, which delivers panoramic views of the sunrise and sunset; or experience eco-tours; airboat rides; and guided canoe and kayak excursions into the deep Everglades.

Get away from it all by camping in an Everglades chickee hut , something that will make your sweetie want to snuggle close to you. Chickee huts are sheltered camping platforms standing in the water, man-made miniature islands rising above a mangrove swamp. Open on all sides, the huts invite breezes to flow through them, making them cooler and discouraging insects. The Pearl Bay Chickee experience is ideal for wilderness camping newbies, and its "outhouse" restroom between the camping platforms makes roughing it not as rough. Kick back, revel in the watery wonderland sunset, and drift off to sleep with the lullaby of lapping water, singing frogs and an ensemble of swamp music, all with your significant other’s arms wrapped around you.

8. Buy Your Significant Other Something in Palm Beach

Often referred to as the "Rodeo Drive of the East Coast" Palm Beach 's Worth Avenue is brimming with upscale retail brands and one-of-a-kind boutiques, tempting visitors with the ultimate in art, apparel, home furnishings and accessories, all amid Old World decor and lush landscaping. Luxury brands include Chanel, Armani, Gucci, Hermes, Louis Vuitton, Tiffany and Co. -- just to name a few. The latter of which could come in very handy for ring shopping.

Romantic places to stay include the Brazilian Court Hotel , a private, secluded getaway infused with Roaring Twenties glamour, all located within walking distance to both the shops and the shore. For a date night to go down in the history books, dine at the Brazilian’s Café Boulud , situated in a verdant garden setting at the hotel and owned by French celebrity chef Daniel Boulud. Plan ahead for this one: reservations are recommended up to one month in advance. Another luxe place to stay is The Breakers Palm Beach Resort , beckoning the glitterati to Palm Beach since the early 20th-century.  Let your worries melt away with a couples massage in the resort’s exquisite indoor-outdoor spa ; indulge in superb dining ; and make some waves with your partner in the infinity-style adult’s only pool.

Kick back with your paramour on a boat tour with  PonTiki Boat Cruises , a party barge complete with a chipping green and tiki bar. Choose from an evening inlet cruise, a private charter – and if you get the timing right—a full moon cruise.

You've Gotta Try: Beach Horseback Riding in Amelia Island

9. go horseback riding on amelia island.

On unspoiled  Amelia Island , explore nature trails and experience a sunrise horseback ride on the golden sand beach. Mother’s Nature’s brilliant sunrise show, the fresh, salt air, and your horse’s hooves in the surf are a surefire aphrodisiac—and a surefire way to work up an appetite. To satisfy your hunger, dine at Salt , a AAA 5-Diamond restaurant that pays tribute to the rich bounty of fresh foods harvested from the ocean and marshes on the island. This romantic eatery earns its name from the salts it employs from around the world -- over 40 of them--  that add intensity to each dish.

Located right on the beach—a generous, secluded affair that stretches as far as the eye can see in both directions-- The Ritz-Carlton Amelia Island offers an elegant combination of Southern charm and five-star service. Ocean-inspired spa services, including the signature ‘Heaven in a Hammock massage’; indoor and outdoor pools with direct beach access; and oh-so-private cabanas deliver romance for couples searching for the perfect place to reconnect and indulge.

Date night with your significant other is a sure winner at Le Clos , sited in Fernandina Beach’s Historic District. The acclaimed restaurant delivers mouth-watering Provençal dishes by candlelight in a charming, intimate 1906 cottage. Local fresh seafood and eclectic wines take center stage: the perfect way to celebrate your love.

10.    Hunt for Seashells on Sanibel Island

Formed in an unusual east-west curve along the coast, Sanibel ’s tranquil shores scoop up abundant seashells from the Gulf, making this barrier island the best place on earth to search for shells . Kick off your sandals, let the salt air work its magic, and stroll out to the beach with your beloved to discover shells with names like angel wings, golden olives, prickly cockles, rusty doves and jewel boxes . Sanibel’s visitors services point out the area boasts ‘15 miles of beaches, 25 miles of bike paths, 50 kinds of fish, 230 kinds of birds, 250 kinds of shells and zero traffic lights,’ and that adds up to just what the love doctor ordered.

Sanibel’s Casa Ybel encompasses 23 gloriously pristine acres set against the Gulf of Mexico, delivering indulgent, Gulf-facing suites with balconies, private entrances and equally private white-sand paths that lead to the beach.  It’s a retreat made for romance: this boutique resort has bikes available for use ; sunrise and sunset yoga on the Gulf Lawn; and a spa that offers couples massages. When evening rolls around, make the best of the sunset over the waves to help fuel the mood at the resort’s award-winning Thistle Lodge restaurant —or if you want something more casual, Coconut’s Bar and Grill , where you’ll have a front row seat for the sunset, served up with tropical drinks.

Make a day trip to Lovers Key State Park , a renowned romantic destination that often hosts picturesque weddings on the pristine shores of the Gulf of Mexico. If you’re already married, you and your beloved can renew your vows. Or you can just cement your connection by enjoying the adventures of this barrier island park , which include paddling; hiking; biking; picnicking and shelling.

Hot air balloons

A hot air balloon ride is made for love.

11.    Embark on a Hot Air Balloon Flight over Orlando

Orlando is nicknamed ‘the City Beautiful,’ and it lives up to the moniker in an epic way on a hot air balloon flight. Your romance will soar as you and your partner take to the skies in a colorful balloon, drifting over hidden lakes and fragrant orange groves, an adventure where you might have the chance to pluck a pinecone from the tiptop of a tree. Local balloon ride operators offer customized flights, with aphrodisiac options like post-flight brunches, champagne toasts and commemorative photos. And if you want to pop the question, proposing from as high as 2,500 feet up will make it the flight of a lifetime.

So close to Magic Kingdom Park it’s connected by a walking path, Disney’s oh-so-lavish, Victorian-style Grand Floridian Resort & Spa promises to cast a love-spell over couples with indulgent massages; a beach pool complete with a 181-foot-long waterslide; and views of the nightly fireworks that light up the sky over Cinderella Castle .

For a sip of enchantment, couples can savor cocktails under the stars on the outdoor patio of the resort’s Enchanted Rose . The lounge, inspired by Beauty and the Beast , serves up appetizers like White Sturgeon Caviar and Truffle Fries.

A fairytale dining experience awaits you and your significant other at Cinderella’s Royal Table ,  snuggled inside Disney’s legendary Cinderella Castle. The steamy mood is set as couples enter the majestic Grand Hall, ascending a spiral staircase that winds to the banquet hall above (a gilded elevator is also available). The romantic, storybook setting includes towering stone archways, imposing medieval flags and dazzling stained-glass windows overlooking Fantasyland. Dinner entrees include ‘Magic Carpet Ride,’ a spiced-crusted pork tenderloin and pork belly with curry couscous; Sustainable Catch En Papillote, and Tenderloin of Beef.

12.    Get Snuggly on a Gondola Tour in Fort Lauderdale

Fort Lauderdale is known as ‘the Venice of America,’ with 300 miles of canals curving through the greater area, weaving past sumptuous mansions and gardens. The ultimate romantic way to explore the waterways is with Las Olas Gondola Tours . On 75-minute-long ride, the gondolier is seated in the rear, while couples have their own private cabin in the center. The tour company provides music, as well as ice, glasses, and plates, so you can bring your fav libations and finger foods to enjoy—over-the-top amorous. The ‘ message in a bottle ,’ set with a silky rose, is a must-do way to surprise your beloved. Your own romantic message is inserted into the bottle, and the gondolier will find it “along the way in the river.”

Hugged against the Atlantic and sited mere minutes from Fort Lauderdale-Hollywood International Airport , Port Everglades , and downtown Las Olas Boulevard , the iconic B Ocean Resort delivers a getaway steeped in romance. Couples can splash in the beachfront infinity pool; get spoiled at the luxe spa; and catch some rays on the private beach. To add some sizzle, The Wreck Bar has just the ticket, offering seductive Mermaid and Aquamen shows --underwater, adult-only burlesque shows.

Date night is special on Hollywood Beach Broadwalk , an award-winning, brick-paved thoroughfare that parallels the ocean for 2.5 miles, well employed by pedestrians, joggers, bicyclists, rollerbladers, and millions of visitors. The Broadwalk is home to countless eateries, bars, shops and hotels—and also, the Hollywood Beach Theatre , an outdoor, beachside venue featuring musical entertainment five nights a week, where you and your main squeeze can dance under the starry skies.

14 Best Romantic Getaways in Florida — From a Private Island to Historic Hotels

These romantic getaways in Florida have something for every couple.

couple trip ideas in florida

When it's high time for a relaxing retreat with your one and only, few domestic destinations can beat the romance of beautiful Florida. Whether you want to hide away on a private island, head to a resort with lots of activities and opportunities to reconnect, or unplug entirely over a candlelit dinner for two, these romantic getaways in the Sunshine State have just the spark you're looking for.

Little Palm Island, Little Torch Key

Although the Florida Keys are better known for turning up the fun than relaxing into romance, the four-acre, adults-only Little Palm Island — the only private island resort in the U.S. — is a notable exception. Here, you can live out your stranded-on-a-deserted-island-together fantasies — that is, if the island were to come equipped with luxurious amenities, fine dining, a palm tree-lined pool, and a full staff ready to cater to your every whim.

When it comes to romantic getaways in Florida, you could hardly find better than the tropical splendor of Little Palm Island. Make sure to book treatments together in the Balinese-style indoor/outdoor spa, laze in a hammock in the shade, soak in your suite's outdoor copper tub with an ocean view, and do dinner on the sand — or order in for a cozy night to yourselves. You can also request romantic arrival amenities and turndown service to surprise your special someone.

Brazilian Court Hotel, Palm Beach

Head to the heart of Palm Beach for a stay at the elegant Brazilian Court Hotel . Located on a quiet residential street a couple blocks from the glitz of Worth Avenue, the 1920s-era property feels a bit like a secluded enclave in the midst of the world's wealthiest. While away the hours by the outdoor pool or at the Brazilian Court beach club, explore any of the private courtyards, and savor the culinary artistry on offer at Café Boulud during your romantic stay.

The Collector Luxury Inn & Gardens, St. Augustine

St. Augustine is one of the most romantic cities in Florida, especially around the holidays when the town is dressed up in three million glittering lights for Nights of Lights . Located on famous Cordova Street but a few minutes by foot from all the hubbub, The Collector Inn is a stunning retreat with elements of history, intrigue, whimsy, and romance. The cozy property contains 30 individually appointed rooms with hardwood floors and fireplaces spread across nine buildings dating back to the 18th century.

The Breakers, Palm Beach

It just doesn't get more romantic than The Breakers , arguably the top resort in Florida and one of the best in the world. From the world-class eateries to the golf course, spa, oceanfront fitness club, and various pools, you'll never want to leave. Stay in the 25-room Flagler Club , an ultra-exclusive hotel-within-a-hotel (complete with its own staff, private lounge, rooftop terrace, and chauffeured Tesla house car) for the crème de la crème of fine hotel stays.

The Ritz Carlton, Amelia Island

Located on a secluded barrier island in northern Florida, The Ritz Carlton, Amelia Island is a gorgeous property lined with 1.5 miles of beachfront dunes, dotted with 18 holes of championship golf, and sporting indoor and outdoor pools with direct beach access and private cabanas. Go there for a coastal retreat, hammock massages, and the chance to bond over activities like kayaking the Intracoastal Waterway.

Isla Bella Beach Resort & Spa, Marathon

Located partway down the Florida Keys archipelago, Isla Bella Beach Resort is one of the most modern luxury resorts in the Keys, perfect for a getaway for two. Make sure to catch the sunset (the resort is situated on 24 oceanfront acres) and sign up for any of the tons of activities on offer, from bocce to beach yoga to stargazing to snorkeling.

South Seas Island Resort, Captiva

Quiet, picturesque, and intentionally intimate, Florida's Captiva Island is one of the state's most romantic beach towns. Stay at the 330-acre South Seas Island Resort for plentiful amenities, restaurants, and activities. It's popular among families, but mom and dad can enjoy some alone time here, too. Nearby Sanibel Island is another favorite among lovers, and both are among the world's best spots for shelling.

The Don CeSar, St. Pete Beach

Sweethearts are never out of place at The Don CeSar , the iconic pink resort nicknamed Florida's Pink Palace. Here, you'll be a five-minute drive from adorable St. Pete's Beach, with shopping, dining, and awe-inspiring sunsets. The beachfront resort's 277 rooms and suites are decorated with breezy textiles reminiscent of the region's Art Deco era.

Cheeca Lodge & Spa, Islamorada

If you desire an unplugged vacation, you might find it hard to accomplish at the endlessly 'Gram-able Cheeca Lodge , where couples can get lost in the 27 acres of tropical foliage, bask in the sun on the massive palm-lined private beach (beaches are a rarity in the Keys), cast a line off the 525-foot fishing pier, or schedule a spa day to rediscover their bliss. Guests can stay in one of the private casitas or a luxury oceanfront suite.

Casa Monica Resort & Spa, Autograph Collection, St. Augustine

Stay at Casa Monica Resort & Spa during a visit to picturesque St. Augustine. Founded in 1565, America's oldest city is a romantic seaside escape with the historic charm of a European destination. And located in the heart of its historic district is Casa Monica, sporting touches of Moroccan style and offering lovers a Sweet Escapes package that comes with an outdoor terrace dining experience, breakfast in bed, a late checkout, and Champagne upon arrival.

Acqualina Resort & Residences on The Beach, Sunny Isles Beach

So you want a stylish getaway to Miami but crave privacy, too? Instead of immersing directly in the buzz of South Beach, head 12 miles north and stay on the quieter Sunny Isles Beach. At the luxurious Acqualina Resort , you can book a couples treatment in the Royal Spa Suite, plan a surprise toes-in-the-sand dining experience, or eat at a Romeo and Juliet-style balcony at on-site Il Mulino. Book a classic suite for views of the water from every room (and even the bathtub).

Island Inn, Sanibel

Find it hard to relax at a resort where you feel obligated to dress to impress? The non-fussy Island Inn — where laid-back living on the sands of Sanibel follows no clock — might be just your speed. Sanibel Island is a favorite among shellers, making it a great spot for those long, romantic walks on the beach everyone always goes on about. (There's even a shell cleaning station when you return with your treasures so you can keep tangible tokens of these special memories.)

The Boca Raton, Boca Raton

The Boca Raton is actually five distinct hotels that make up one sprawling resort. On the property, there are more than a dozen restaurants spanning everything from a golf course-adjacent burger joint to an upscale Italian eatery, a 50,000-square-foot spa, spacious pools, and things to do on the beach and at the lake. A fleet of boats connects the inland and beach sides of the resort. It's the perfect place for two to sneak away for a weekend to themselves.

The Henderson Park Inn, Destin

A secluded escape awaits at The Henderson Park Inn , which resembles a grand seaside manor on the unspoiled Emerald Coast. The property is adults-only and built in the style of a classic East Coast inn. Up the ante with the Romance Package, which includes accommodations in a suite and a sweep-you-off-your-feet welcome complete with a rose petal display on the bed.

Gasparilla Island is a small barrier island in southwest Florida that is only 11 miles long and about half a mile wide.

The island is popular for a number of recreational beach activities, but the absence of paved roads makes it only accessible by a private boat or water taxi. There are no commercial stores or restaurants on the island, so groceries should be purchased ahead of time and carried over on the way to the island, but that’s all part of the charm!

There are lots of cool vacation homes to spend the week building sandcastles, snorkeling along the nearby sandbar, drinking homemade cocktails, and reconnecting with loved ones at the remote island paradise.

Beer Can Island

Recently renamed Pine Key, this remote island is working on changing its reputation as a place for boaters to drop anchor and explore the island with beer in hand back to a remote island oasis that supports natural habitats and wildlife.

The previously installed performance stage, tiki hut, and inflatable slide will be exchanged for a return to nature with weekly Sunday night bonfires and gatherings. The small island is only accessible for day trips by boat and there are no overnight accommodations. To stay up to date on events and activities happening at Beer Can Island, follow their Facebook page for more information on upcoming events.

One of the best hidden romantic getaways in Florida for sure.

If you want to wake up on island time, Key West is the ultimate destination. Head to the beach for some fun in the sun, stroll Duvall Street, and take a tour on a trolley to learn the history of this pastel-hued paradise. And don't forget to take in one of the area's incredible sunsets.

This laid-back tropical destination offers fabulous shopping, dining, and, of course, plenty of beach activities and excursions. On your visit, don't miss all of the natural beauty that Vero has to offer like the McKee Botanical Garden and the Indian River Lagoon.

While the riverfront city has a flourishing food, shopping, and arts scene, it has managed to stay under-the-radar for quite some time. Learn to surf, stroll along the Cocoa Beach Pier, or go kayaking in this fun, laid-back town.

St. Augustine

This picturesque spot seems to only get better with age. If you and your significant other are history buffs, then you'll immediately feel transported back in time upon arrival (and be sure to take a historic walking tour to learn all about its culture). There's plenty of outdoor activities to do in the country's oldest city, from shopping and dining to shelling, golfing, and fishing.

If you're an adventure-seeking duo, add Sarasota to your vacation list. Many believe that the best way to see this crystal blue water paradise is by boat, so prepare to set sail. Besides the shopping and dining, be sure to add the Marie Selby Botanical Gardens and The John and Mable Ringling Museum of Art to your list.

Panama City Beach

If the 27 miles of white sandy beaches and aquamarine waters don't lure you to Panama City Beach, we're not sure what will. While the destination offers a vibrant arts and culture scene, many vacation goers visit for the amazing St. Andrews State Park and Camp Helen State Park. And when you're looking for good, old-fashioned touristy fun, there's plenty of that too.

Anna Maria Island

The relaxed vibe and beautiful beaches of Anna Maria Island will have you returning year after year. Take it slow and stroll the streets lined with beautiful cottages, then stop for drinks and bites at beach-front restaurants. Or explore a tropical wonderland at Palma Sola Botanical Park .

While Palm Beach is not the most surprising spot on this list, it never disappoints. Head here for a fun getaway filled with the best of golfing, shopping, and dining. While there's so much to keep your itinerary packed, be sure to stroll along Worth Avenue, explore the iconic hotels , and bike the 5.5 mile Lake Trail.

Cayo Costa Island

We are not going to sugarcoat this getaway in Florida. It is not for everyone. If you like nature, no crowds, rustic deserted beaches, lots of wildlife and clear Gulf waters, you are in for treat.

Cayo Costa is a Florida State Park on a remote island well removed from normal mainland crowds. This is a place where you can share romantic moments on nearly empty beaches.

Hike trails around the island or kayak over clear blue waters. Accommodation is rustic cabins, or you can bring a tent for camping. No, this isn’t for everyone, just those who relish nature and quiet togetherness in an island setting. The island can only be accessed by boat !

This boat-accessed only rustic island is difficult to reserve, so plan well ahead by making reservations. You’ll want to start by calling to make overnight camping reservations at the park.

Reservation can be made by calling Reserve America at 1-800-326-3521. After that, you will need to reserve a water taxi to get you to and from the island.

Nothing that is really unique or worthwhile is easy, but it will be a memorable experience. One of the most remote places in Florida to visit for couples.

15 Romantic Things to Do in Florida for Couples

So many options, so little time.

couple trip ideas in florida

Westend61 / Getty Images

With white sand beaches, year-round sunshine, and exquisite dining, Florida is an obvious choice when looking for your next romantic getaway in the U.S. There are tons of fun things to do in Florida for couples, while also keeping things spontaneous and romantic.

“For a romantic trip to Florida and to stay in a luxury hotel , I would budget at least $1,000 per day if you’re traveling between December and July. In the low season, you could get away for less,” reveals Florida-based travel advisor Kristina Miller.

Meet the Expert

Kristina Miller is a Florida-based travel advisor at Wanderlust Travel Adventures, a Virtuoso Agency .

Regarding the best time to visit, Miller says that the winter season in Florida is gorgeous. “Days are often sunny and hover in the high 70s. In the spring, the beaches start to warm up. And even though summer is hot and humid, it's great beach weather when the ocean feels like bath water.” If visiting in the fall , you may experience more afternoon thunderstorms and the risk of hurricanes, but Miller claims there are often amazing deals to be had, especially on dining and spas.

Also, taking your romantic trip to the next level is never a bad idea. “Ask your hotel to set up a private beach dinner surrounded by candles or choose a room with an expansive ocean-view balcony. Some hotels even have private plunge pools,” she offers.

Seep in the History of St. Augustine

Colonized by Spanish explorers over 200 years before the establishment of the United States, St. Augustine is a city with great historical significance. While there are, of course, modern elements in St. Augustine, many of the most interesting things to do in the city have a bit of history.

The Castillo de San Marcos National Monument is the greatest example of this. The fortress was built to protect the Spanish-occupied city from other interested parties and is arguably one of the best things to see in Florida .

In addition to the Castillo de San Marcos National Monument, you can also check out the shops on George Street, soak up the sun at St. Augustine Beach, and find the secret to longevity at Ponce de Leon’s Fountain of Youth Archeological Park.

While there are hundreds of springs in Florida, there are a couple of features that set Ginnie Springs apart from the others.

First, the seven springs that makeup Ginnie Springs have some of the clearest waters found in any of Florida’s natural springs. Second, the limestone of these seven springs is built in such a way that there are tons of underwater caves for divers to explore.

Spend your time at the springs swimming, paddling, or tubing in the beautiful water.

But that’s not all there is to do in Sarasota. One of the best things to do in this seaside city is to pay a visit to The Ringling, the official state art museum of Florida and home to thousands of stunning pieces of artwork.

Another activity just as unique as The Ringling is Beer Can Island . Covered in fallen trees, this turquoise beach looks like a movie set! It’s perfect if you’re looking for something off-the-radar or for a cool photoshoot spot.

Sanibel Island is most well-known for its shelling . Its beaches are littered with shells from all sorts of sea creatures, including conches, scallops, and whelks. Do know that it is illegal to take shells if animals are still living inside!

Captiva Island is the quirkier of the two islands. While the shelling of Sanibel Island makes its mark through the Bailey-Matthews National Shell Museum, there are gems that are unique to Captiva Island, including a Christmas-themed restaurant!

10 Romantic Getaways in Florida: Fun Activities for Couples in the Sunshine State

The sun rises and I’m looking for dolphins. They’re usually frolicking in the blue waters of the Gulf of Mexico at this hour. If I don’t see any, it’s no big deal. I could spend all day on these gorgeous white sand beaches, taking in the sun and adding to my collection of seashells if I start to feel a little restless.

For lunch, I grab a grouper sandwich so large it hangs off the bun and take a sip of a tropical drink while watching the fiery orange sun sink into the deep blue waters of the Gulf. In the evening, I might head to one of the beach bars in town for live Jimmy Buffett-style acoustic music, or if there’s a full moon, I’ll take a moonlight kayak trip with my boyfriend.

With Florida’s idyllic year-round temperatures, there’s something in every season for couples. Summers are for diving for scallops and fall brings the first stone crabs of the season. Spring is all about baseball, outdoor festivals, and craft beer, while winter — when we enjoy temperate days with no humidity — offers cool breezes for playing golf, hiking and biking. There’s even plenty to do on rainy days exploring our surprisingly large collection of museums and art galleries.

Suffice it to say, the Sunshine State is filled with unique places to pursue your personal passions. Here are some favorite romantic getaways in Florida for a weekend of sun, sand and spa treatments or an action-packed adventure for two by land or sea.

Amelia Island: A Pirate’s Paradise and a Romantic Getaway

This barrier island on Florida’s East Coast—known as the Island of Eight Flags—is the only American city to have been ruled by eight different nations. Fernandina Beach celebrates its heritage with the annual Isle of Eight Flags Shrimp Festival every May and The Ritz-Carlton Amelia Island celebrates it daily with a Pirate Toast. With 13 miles of unspoiled beaches, abundant wildlife from ospreys to dolphins and a Victorian village loaded with boutique shops and dining options, Amelia Island is a treasure chest waiting to be plundered.

In contrast to the Victorian village, the resort and its guest rooms and suites are defined by contemporary elegance and an abundance of amenities and activities. The resort offers tennis facilities, water sports rentals, both an indoor and an outdoor pool, and an 18-hole championship golf course as well as a spa. With a total of eight on-site restaurants and bars, there’s no need to leave the property, but visitors should take the complimentary evening shuttle at least once to explore historic downtown Fernandina Beach. Ask the concierge to arrange special activities like horseback riding on the beach and surfing lessons.

The Ritz-Carlton, Amelia Island

Atlantic beach: personal pampering on a romantic getaway in florida.

At One Ocean Resort & Spa on Atlantic Beach, you’ll get the V.I.C. (Very Important Couple) treatment from the minute you arrive. Your personal docent will greet you in the stunning lobby beneath the magnificent chandelier of glass orbs and escort you to your room or suite. Turn off your cell phone and reconnect with your significant other with the Digital DeTox Romance package, which includes turndown service with champagne and strawberries, a spa credit—think tandem beachside massage—and a dinner for two.

Even out your tan on tandem beach loungers or rent bikes to explore the shops and restaurants of Atlantic Beach Town Center or cruise along the coastline. If you’re heading out for a night on the town, your docent services include steam pressing and shoe shining.

Hotel One Ocean Resort & Spa

Clear water beach: enjoy upscale amenities on your romantic getaway in florida.

Sitting on a coveted stretch of glistening white sand in Clearwater Beach, the Sandpearl Resort is truly a jewel with its upscale amenities like private boat slips, a full-service spa, a lagoon-style pool, an electric car charging station, the city’s only four-diamond restaurant and an array of curated enrichment programs. Guest rooms feature chic modern beach décor, although the resort’s laid-back attitude includes activities like a nightly beachfront fire pit for impromptu social gatherings.

And if you’re dying to see dolphins, you’re in the right place. You’ll see pairs and sometimes whole pods swimming by in the early morning and at twilight. Ask the concierge to arrange a dolphin-watching cruise if you want to play it safe. The resort’s enrichment program also offers a behind-the-scenes experience at the nearby Clearwater Marine Aquarium, home to our local “movie stars,” the dolphins Winter and Hope from the Dolphin Tale movies. Be sure to upgrade to a Gulf view room to take advantage of spectacular sunsets, or if you really want to splurge, go for one of the suites on the top two floors to have your own fully-equipped home-away-from-home on the beach.

Sandpearl Resort

Destin: a romantic getaway in florida for spa lovers.

The Henderson’s cedar shingles and gabled rooflines may evoke Florida’s early 20th-century beach resorts, but this resort is anything but old-fashioned, except in its exceptional personal service. Guest rooms and suites offer a coastal décor reflecting the blues and greens of the Gulf of Mexico, most with views of the beach, the adjacent Henderson Beach Preserve or the tropical gardens.

Spa lovers should choose one of the spa-inspired rooms, which feature a claw foot soaking tub, premium spa products, yoga wellness packs, and a nearby private elevator that goes directly to—you guessed it— the spa. If outdoor activities are your passion, hit the beach for complimentary morning and sunset beach yoga classes or join one of the guided fitness walks. Or simply kick back and relax in a cabana at the adults-only pool. You can also rent bikes, kayaks, and paddleboards, and hikers will love the beach nature trail at nearby Henderson Beach State Park

Nicknamed the Conch Republic — after this quirky and eccentric city seceded from the rest of Florida in 1982 — Key West is a true original. The Southernmost Beach Resort is located in the historic Old Town and so named for its proximity to Cuba at the southernmost point of the island. Don’t let the quaint Conch-style architecture fool you. The guest rooms here — spread throughout several different buildings— feature a contemporary coastal décor and views of the Atlantic Ocean or of the resort’s lush gardens.

Grab a seaside hammock and a good book for a lazy afternoon by the beach or walk to Duval Street to enjoy the boutiques, galleries, and local restaurants. Don’t be surprised to meet some of Key West’s other famous residents, the free-range roosters, and chickens that roam about town. If you visit Ernest Hemingway’s house, you’ll see some of the six-toed cats descended from his own feline, Snow White. And be sure to join the sunset celebration, held every evening at Mallory Square, which commences with the blowing of a conch shell. In addition to the resort’s private beach and tanning pier, take advantage of the three pools and access to nearby South Beach. End the day Jimmy Buffett-style with a Key Lime Margarita at the Shores Bar while listening to a local songwriter.

Southernmost Beach Resort Key West

Miami beach: an eco-friendly romantic getaway in florida.

1 Hotel South Beach is an eco-friendly, hipster hotel in the heart of trendy South Beach with some of the largest guest rooms in town as well as its own stretch of private beach. The sleek, minimalist rooms offer reclaimed driftwood headboards, organic mattresses, bed linens and towels, a triple-filtered water shower and all-natural custom bath amenities. Don’t be surprised to find dried mushrooms as a wall treatment, indoor gardens, and even a personal terrarium in your guest room.

Hotel 1 continues the local trend with its food offerings, from a farm stand in the lobby, where you can pick up fresh fruits and veggies to its three restaurants. Plnthouse offers healthy organic fare, Chef Jose Mendin’s Habitat features sea-to-fork daily catches, grass-fed meats and local produce, and Watr on the adults-only rooftop serves up an array of Peruvian and Japanese-influenced seafood, available in the restaurant and poolside. Or pick up something healthy to-go at the hotel’s snack shop, Nativ Made. After 7 p.m.—when the public is allowed to access the rooftop—expect a true South Beach party. Chill out the next day on the beach, on a daybed, at one of the two oceanside pools or at the Bamford Haybarn Spa. Try the After Sun Recovery treatment which includes a footbath, full body wrap, and facial mask.

1 Hotel South Beach

Naples: couples kayaking and massage on this romantic getaway in florida.

Nestled between the Gulf of Mexico and Vanderbilt Bay, LaPlaya Beach and Golf Resort offers double the fun for couples with tandem kayaks, tandem massages, and even parasailing for two. Golfers will love the Robert Cupp 18-hole course with its challenging lakes and water features, but be sure to leave some time for relaxing by the pool, where the resort’s beach butlers deliver cold sorbet and chilled towels in the afternoon.

Guest rooms and suites in soothing tones of green and gold—many with additional amenities like marble bathrooms and whirlpool tubs—are spread through a variety of buildings. From May through October, the resort works with the Conservancy of Southwest Florida to protect the nesting areas of the endangered sea turtles and asks guests to close their drapes by 9:00 p.m. so the lights won’t disturb them. Be a good earth steward and you’ll be rewarded with a complimentary sea turtle lapel pin. If there’s a full moon while you’re in town, take a romantic moonlight kayak tour with local outfitters, Adventures Kayaking.

LaPlaya Beach & Golf Resort

Palm beach: stay in a european villa for your romantic getaway in florida.

The last thing you would expect to find in the land of palm trees and sunny beaches is a European villa worthy of royalty. Inspired by the Villa Medici in Rome, the historic Breakers Resort  epitomizes the glitterati lifestyle in Palm Beach, often called Florida’s “Riviera.” The mammoth 140-acre resort oozes opulence, from the Venetian chandeliers and hand-painted ceilings to a veritable shopping mall of designer boutiques.

If you believe couples who play together, stay together, this resort offers the motherlode of activities, from championship golf and tennis to scuba diving, reef diving, and ocean kayaking, offering certified instructors for each. Relax on the private beach in a loaded beach bungalow with private concierge service or add some spice to your getaway with complimentary classes in belly dancing. The sunset catamaran cruise is a perfect prelude to a romantic dinner at one of the eight on-site restaurants. End the day with a nightcap at HMF, the resort’s historic flagship bar named for its founder, railroad baron Henry Flagler.

The Breakers Palm Beach

Sanibel: surround yourself with lush tropical foliage on your romantic getaway in florida.

This tiny barrier island has enough lush tropical foliage to fuel any deserted island fantasy. The best way to see it is by bike on the more than 20 miles of paths throughout the island, and Casa Ybel has several on hand for guest use. This all-suite resort offers accommodations more like private residences than hotel rooms. All suites are beachfront with Gulf views and feature full kitchens, living rooms, and even outdoor gas grills.

Known as the Seashell Capital of the World, you can pick up your own souvenirs at popular spots like Bowman’s Beach or at Blind Pass, the dividing point between Sanibel and Captiva. The resort offers a beach trolley if you want to go into town to check out the many art galleries and boutiques or visit the Bailey-Matthews Shell Museum. For outdoor fun, rent a kayak or paddle board and don’t miss the resort’s beach bonfire and s’mores roast just after sunset.

Casa Ybel Resort

St. petersburg: a romantic getaway in florida for beach lovers.

Built by Thomas Rowe in 1928 as an homage to his lost love, a Spanish opera singer named Lucinda, The Don Cesar is a Gatsby-era landmark that has hosted presidents, rock stars, and famous literary lovers like F. Scott Fitzgerald, who penned some of his famous letters to Zelda from this pink and white Mediterranean confection on St. Pete Beach.

If you can pull yourself away from one of the two pools—and the poolside concierge service with Evian and suntan lotion misting, chilled towels and frosty tropical cocktails—the sugar-like white sand beach beckons. Rent a Waverunner, paddle board or a kayak for two, or just chill out in your own private beachfront oasis with sun loungers and a large umbrella. And although the hotel does offer a fully-equipped indoor fitness center, live like a local and stay fit the Florida way with complimentary beach yoga, water aerobics, and water yoga classes. For total beach bliss, order a couple’s massage while watching the sunset. Finish the day with a sea-to-fork dinner at the private chef’s table in the award-winning Maritana Grille.

Indian Rocks Beach

Sunset at Indian Rocks Beach

By Lanie from Make More Adventures

Indian Rocks Beach is not only gorgeous and more private than Clearwater Beach, but it is so close to Clearwater Beach that couples can easily head there for a few hours if they want more options for activities and restaurants.

Fly into Tampa International Airport (TPA) or St. Pete/Clearwater Airport (PIE) and take a taxi to the beach. Cars aren’t a necessity on the beach, especially as the Jolley Trolley bus is easy to use and inexpensive.

Indian Rocks Beach is surrounded by water, with the Gulf of Mexico on one side and the Intracoastal Waterway on the other. Every location is just a few blocks (or less) from the beach.

Holiday houses and condos are more popular than hotels on Indian Rocks Beach. Clearwater Beach Hotel is an affordable option nearby for those who wish to stay in a hotel.

The beach is a perfect place for a walk on the soft white sand, and for those who want to explore more, Indian Rocks Beach Nature Preserve is free to visit and has boardwalks through the mangroves. Many kinds of wildlife can be spotted from the nature preserve.

For budget meals and snacks, head to the Kooky Coconut . Don’t forget to order their ice cream and walk down to the beach to enjoy the beautiful Gulf Coast sunset . Another great budget option for meals is Jake’s Coastal Cantina . Make sure to check out their daily food and drink specials.

Miami

By Rebecca from Veggies Abroad

When looking for an affordable destination in Florida that offers gorgeous sun-filled days, an eclectic arts scene, epic nightlife, and pristine white sand beaches, you need to look no further than Miami!

While Miami does beckon the rich and famous, there are many ways to visit the Magic City more affordably.

First, you have to decide where you want to stay. The best place to base yourself to enjoy the city and be close to the beach is the Wynwood Arts District . What was once an area of abandoned warehouses is now filled with colorful murals, chic boutiques, and some of Miami’s best vegan food (don’t miss The Chocolate Chip Bakery or Love Life Café ).

A great hotel to check out is AC Hotel Miami Wynwood . You can also book a budget-friendly vacation rental in the area.

Now, deciding what to do in Miami can be a bit overwhelming — the city is always full of activity! If you stay in Wynwood, be sure to take a tour of Wynwood Walls — it’s a one-of-a-kind urban graffiti museum and allows visitors to learn more about the district.

On Saturdays, check out a variety of local farmers and vendors at the Coconut Grove Farmers Market ; it’s almost entirely plant-based!

For a romantic stroll, there is always, of course, Miami Beach , but for something a little quieter, be sure to check out the gorgeous gardens at the Fairchild Tropical Botanic Gardens . Aside from an array of flora, there is also a fantastic butterfly garden, home to more than 40 species of exotic butterflies from Central and South America.

The closest airport to Miami is Miami International, but sometimes it is a little cheaper to fly into Fort Lauderdale, which is just under an hour away by car.

Gulf Islands National Seashore

By Ashlee Fechino from The Happiness Function

Plus, there are plenty of free things to do here , making it an affordable option. Keep reading for tips on spending time in this beautiful place!

Gulf Islands National Seashore Fort Pickens is home to a famous historical fort where visitors can explore the fort at their own pace on a self-guided tour. Gulf Islands is also a great place to kayak for couples who enjoy water sports activities. Keep your eyes peeled to see beautiful wildlife in their protected natural habitat.

Plan a romantic beach camping trip to the island and be within walking distance of gorgeous sunsets overlooking Pensacola Bay. Bring your own food and drinks and picnic right on the beach! Pensacola Beach is roughly 30 minutes away for couples wanting to explore some of the local restaurants and nightlife.

If the idea of a serene, romantic beach getaway is appealing to you, consider Gulf Islands National Seashore.

Panama City Beach

panama city beach florida

By Roshni from The Wanderlust Within

One of the most laidback and affordable places to visit along the Florida Panhandle is Panama City Beach.

It is especially perfect for couples looking for a fun and relaxed beach getaway . Spend your days, walking along the beautiful white sand beaches made from crystal quartz, take a dip in the emerald green waters, or hire a boat and sail half an hour to the famous Shell Island just off the coast.

If you want some  things to do in Panama City Beach  on dry land, then  Pier Park  is your best bet. It is a beachside shopping, dining and entertainment complex, where it is easy to spend an entire day and night (make sure you visit Tootsies lounge , if you’re a country music fan!).

If you’re a foodie there are several places to visit including the famous Andy’s Flour Power , which serves a mean brunch. Make sure to order the breakfast martini cocktail!

Panama City Beach is served by Northwest Florida Beaches Airport (ECP) which is only 20 minutes drive from the beachfront.

Safreen Motel is a great option for couples on a budget. The hotel is only a 1-minute walk to the beach, all rooms have aircon, some have a kitchen. There’s also free parking available. Alternatively, check out the vacation rentals near the beach , there are many budget-friendly options.

Disney Springs Orlando

By Kerry Hanson from VeggTravel

If you’re looking for affordable destinations in Florida for couples, then don’t overlook Orlando. While Orlando might be notoriously expensive if you’re planning a Disney or Universal Studios focused vacation, however, there is so much more to the city than that. In fact, some of the best things to do in Orlando have free admission. If you don’t want to splurge on theme park tickets, then visit City Walk or Disney Springs to enjoy the magic of the location and themed restaurants without the price tag.

If you do want some thrills but want to keep to a budget, consider visiting Fun Spot America-Kissimmee instead. The park is old school but is still great fun and some of the restaurants and bars nearby are the cheapest in Orlando.

Make sure you also explore downtown. During the day, there are many beautiful parks to enjoy, such as Lake Eola or Winter Park . Come evening, there are also cool and quirky bars and speakeasies, as well as popular nightclubs.

If you want the resort experience on International Drive but still want to keep costs low, then stay at the Avanti International Resort . It has a fantastic pool, modern rooms, and is close to everything you need. You’ll also find plenty of budget-friendly vacation rentals in town.

You can travel around Orlando easily on the frequent trolly and bus services which also connect Orlando international airport to International Drive. Hiring a car is also affordable and gives you much more freedom.

Jacksonville

Jacksonville Beach

By Mary from Wanderu

Jacksonville is home to 22 miles of beaches, perfect for early-morning walks, days of surfing and paddleboarding, and evenings of watching the sun set. Jacksonville Beach and Neptune Beach are two of the most popular, and they are free to the public (although parking costs a few dollars). If you’re visiting between May and October, you might even get to see sea turtles nesting on the beach!

Beyond its beaches, Jacksonville offers many more gorgeous outdoor settings for affordable and romantic dates. For just $3 per person, explore Jacksonville Arboretum & Gardens’ 51 acres of trails and pristine wilderness. Or spend a day at Little Talbot Island , an undeveloped landscape of dunes, salt marshes, and beaches perfect for spotting wildlife.

In the heart of the city, The Dance Shack has free “newbie” drop-in classes on Friday nights, where couples can learn salsa, swing, and ballroom dancing together. Finish off the evening with a cocktail at River & Post ’s rooftop, with sweeping views of the river and city skyline.

An affordable hotel option is Best Western Premier Jacksonville Hotel , in the Baymeadows area. From this home base, you can also take day trips from Jacksonville to nearby destinations for very cheap. Plus, the hotel is less than 30 minutes from Jacksonville International Airport.

No matter how you spend your vacation, Jacksonville is a cheap and thrilling destination for couples and one of the most romantic getaways in Florida for couples on a budget.

Gator in Homestead, Florida

By Jami from Celiac Travel Pack

Homestead, FL is the perfect destination for couples on a budget who want to balance beach time with some adventure during their vacation.

This small town is located about an hour from beautiful beaches in the Florida Keys. Take in some beach time at Anne’s Beach or beat the crowds at Library Park Beach . For a romantic evening, check out Holiday Isle Beach for dinner and a sunset.

From Homestead, you can choose your own national park adventure. Homestead is close to the Everglades and Biscayne National Parks . In the Everglades, take a tram tour of Shark Valley to see alligators or head to Flamingo to try to spot some manatees. Biscayne National Park is 95% water. Take a kayak, snorkel, or sailing tour in the park to experience the marine life up close.

Homestead gives you the relaxed vibe of a small town but that also means there aren’t as many restaurants. Stay at the Home2 Suites in Homestead to have access to a kitchen during your stay or book a holiday home.

Chefs on the Run offers a plant-based mofongo bowl for a Puerto Rican meal. Grati Cafe in nearby Key Largo offers smoothies and açaí bowls to get your day started. For a touristy experience that’s worth the crowd, grab a smoothie at Robert is Here Fruit Stand . For a different kind of adventure, pick a new fruit to try from the variety at the fruit stand; you won’t believe the options for fruits you never knew existed.

The closest airport is in Miami. You’ll need a rental car and should make sure you know how your sun pass works for the toll roads. If you plan to take the tram tour in Shark Valley, a boat tour in Flamingo, or participate in any of the tours in Biscayne book them early.

Mount Dora

Mount Dora FL

By Jillian Michelle of Adventure Dragon

Mount Dora, Florida is one of the most affordable destinations in Florida for couples, but few people know about this charming spot other than locals. It’s located just a little over a half an hour drive north of Orlando, making it a convenient place for couples to visit when they’re looking for a cheap and relaxing place to take a break from city life.

The iconic, red and white striped lighthouse is the highlight of the small town, and it’s the perfect spot to go for a romantic stroll around the lake with your partner. Lake Dora is also home to Palm Island Park , a free nature getaway that contains 8 acres of boardwalks, trails, and wildlife-viewing spots.

Nearby there’s a free art museum as well as a charming independent bookstore that even offers free wine and snacks if you happen to visit during their monthly free book club.

When it gets too hot outdoors, stop by Mount Dora Confectionary for some iced treats or homemade candies. Then visit the Highland Street Café for a delicious veggie wrap, or try some authentic Lebanese food at Beirut Bites . They have multiple tasty options including hummus, baba ghanoush, falafel, and tabbouleh.

End your romantic getaway by staying at the oldest continuously operating hotel in the state of Florida, the historic Lakeside Inn !

Ocala, Florida for couples

By Candice from CS Ginger

One of the most affordable destinations and top romantic getaways in Florida is Ocala, located in Central Florida. Ocala is a smaller destination in Florida known for its beautiful natural springs , Spanish moss, and outdoor activities. There is beautiful clear water as well as really fun historical sites. There is also a large national forest.

The most famous spring in Florida is Silver Springs . This is a great place to enjoy the beautiful nature in central Florida. Silver Springs is a great place to kayak . There are kayak rentals, making it really easy to enjoy the water paths in the park. You can also go on the famous glass-bottom boat tours to see manatees, alligators, and other wildlife. There is also a group of wild monkeys that live in the park.

Another fun thing to do in Ocala is to explore the downtown historic district. The romantic and charming streets are lined with stunning oak trees, and you can marvel at the beautiful homes dating back to 1910. It is a very walkable neighborhood with lots of delicious restaurants and fun things to do.

If you’re looking for an adventure, you can go zip lining. The Canyons Zip Line goes over two canyons and four different lakes. They also offer kayaking tours.

The Silver Princess Motel is a good budget-friendly motel in Ocala. Featuring a pool, it includes AC and a kitchenette in every room. You’ll also find many affordable vacation rentals nearby.

Cocoa Beach

Aeriel shot of Cocoa Beach Pier

By Laura from Gallivanting Laura

Cocoa Beach is a small surfing town located on a barrier island on Florida’s Space Coast. It packs a punch when it comes to things to see and do, making it the perfect beach vacation in Florida for couples on a budget.

Spend your days on the beach, enroll in some surfing lessons, check out the wildlife on a kayaking or boat tour , and witness a rocket launch. A stroll around Ron Jon Surf Shop is an activity in itself. This iconic store is the world’s largest surf shop and a must-see on my visitor lists. Tip: Several websites report the latest launch schedules, such as Space Coast Launches.

There are many  bars and restaurants  to check out, from oceanfront to dive bars. There is something for everyone. 4th Street Fillin Station has a fun vibe and a varying menu, while Sunset Café Waterfront has beautiful views and a sunset celebration every evening.

The closest major airport is Orlando International, with the lesser-known Melbourne Orlando International also nearby. Shuttle services run from each airport if you do not wish to book a rental car.

Once owned by seven astronauts, the  La Quinta Inn  is a budget-friendly hotel in an excellent location. With public beach access across the street, breakfast, parking, a large pool and bars onsite, it provides good value. Room Tip: For a quieter experience, avoid the ‘pool view’ rooms.

St. Augustine

St Augustine aerial view

By Erin from Super Simple Salty Life

With buildings that are centuries old, cobblestone streets, and tree-lined paths with hidden courtyards, you will feel right away that St. Augustine is a great place for couples to visit and one of the best romantic getaways in Florida. Add to that the stylish bars, live music, truly fantastic food, top-rated bed and breakfasts, and gorgeous beaches, and you will never want to leave!

St. Augustine is in north Florida on the “Historic Coast”. Although the city is very easy to explore on foot, the closest airport is about an hour away in Jacksonville. It is best to drive here if you live nearby, or rent a car at the airport and pay a daily parking rate.

For great food and drinks, check out Sangria’s Wine Bar for late night wine and jazz music on a balcony overlooking the historic St. George Street, or enjoy fresh “Florida-style” food while watching the sunset at Cap’s On the Water . Then stay overnight in one of the quaint vacation homes near the beach so you can do it all again the next day!

The city of St. Augustine dates back to 1565, so the entire area is rich with history. Take a stroll around the city to explore perfectly preserved buildings and forts, restored museums, and cathedrals with amazing architecture. The Old Town Trolley tour is a great way to see all of the top-rated sights, and you can hop on and off with ease throughout the day! You can also take a haunted nighttime ghost tour or a sunset boat sail with your significant other for some cuddle time.

No matter what adventures you choose to do in St. Augustine, you will have a fantastic time!
