Tennessee Valley Authority Offers Rare Public Tours Of Some Of Its Dams

In celebration of the Tennessee Valley Authority’s 90th anniversary in 2023, TVA is offering a chance for the public to tour several of its dams.

  • Short Answer: Yes, it’s totally possible to hit up the Hoover Dam and Grand Canyon in a single day, especially if you’re headed to the Grand Canyon West from Las Vegas.

Curious about the perfect blend of these two? Let us break down why they fit together seamlessly.

Tour Hoover Dam From Las Vegas

The Hoover Dam Is On the Way to The Grand Canyon

The journey from the vibrant Vegas Strip to the majestic Grand Canyon typically entails a four-hour drive , unless your exploration takes you to the West Rim – a mere two-and-a-half-hour drive away. Along this route, approximately 40 miles beyond the dazzling lights of Las Vegas, you’ll encounter a true marvel: The Hoover Dam.

This dynamic duo of the Grand Canyon and the Hoover Dam constitutes an ideal escape from the city’s hustle and bustle, presenting you with a splendid chance to cross off both iconic destinations from your bucket list. It’s a single day that encapsulates the awe-inspiring beauty of the Grand Canyon and the structural marvel of the Hoover Dam, all in one unforgettable journey.

There are Different Ways for You to Visit Both from Las Vegas.

Grand Canyon Tours - Amazing Overview

If you’re on a Las Vegas adventure and aiming to make the most of your time, why not consider a dual adventure to two iconic destinations? We’re here to unveil the exciting possibilities of visiting both the Grand Canyon and the Hoover Dam in a single day, all while maximizing your experiences and minimizing your travel hassles.

1. The Perfect Pairing: Grand Canyon and Hoover Dam

When it comes to combining natural wonders and remarkable engineering feats, the Grand Canyon and Hoover Dam stand out. Whether you’re a time-strapped traveler or just eager to check two bucket-list spots off in one go, this combo trip is an excellent choice.

2. Seamlessly Incorporating Hoover Dam

The good news is that many day trips to the Grand Canyon, including our small group tours, seamlessly incorporate a visit to the Hoover Dam on the journey. This means you won’t miss out on exploring this marvel of human ingenuity, as it’s a key stop en route to the Grand Canyon.

3. Exploring the Grand Canyon’s West Rim

For those with a day to spare, the Grand Canyon’s West Rim is a popular choice. With breathtaking views and attractions like the Skywalk, it offers a taste of the Grand Canyon’s majesty. This option is ideal for travelers who want a glimpse of the canyon’s beauty without an extensive time commitment.

4. Embracing the Classic Experience at the South Rim

If time permits or you’re seeking the quintessential Grand Canyon adventure, make sure to include the Grand Canyon National Park’s South Rim in your plans. This classic experience promises panoramic vistas, immersive trails, and a deeper connection to this natural wonder.

5. Navigating Time and Distance

Venturing to the Grand Canyon South Rim involves more than a four-hour drive from Las Vegas. If combining the South Rim with a Hoover Dam visit in one day sounds enticing, our top recommendation is to opt for a guided tour. This way, you’ll forgo the driving and leave the logistics to experts.

6. Hoover Dam En Route to the Grand Canyon South Rim

For an even more rewarding journey, consider hitting the Hoover Dam on your way out to the Grand Canyon’s South Rim. This strategic plan lets you enjoy the dam’s marvels and then dive deep into the South Rim’s wonders over the course of a few days. With abundant exploration opportunities at the South Rim, a few hours would only scratch the surface.

In the end, the choice is yours: whether to embark on a day-tripping adventure that combines both marvels or to extend your experience for a more in-depth encounter with the Grand Canyon’s grandeur. Regardless, the allure of the Grand Canyon and the engineering brilliance of the Hoover Dam await your exploration. Make the most of your Las Vegas escapade by crafting a personalized itinerary that resonates with your wanderlust.

Why Should I Visit the Hoover Dam?

The Hoover Dam stands as one of the most remarkable feats of engineering in American history. Constructed during the challenging years of the Great Depression, this dam not only claimed the title of the world’s largest man-made structure upon its completion in 1936 but also emerged as a major hydroelectric power producer.

The dam’s towering presence at 726 feet in height and stretching 1,244 feet in length is best appreciated in person, as its sheer scale is awe-inspiring. Whether you’re seeking a family getaway or a reprieve from the vibrant energy of the Las Vegas Strip, the Hoover Dam offers both an educational and entertaining experience

Moreover, the dam’s significance extends beyond its engineering marvel. It stands as a testament to the unwavering determination of the American populace. And if that isn’t reason enough to visit, there’s the added allure of Lake Mead, a sprawling reservoir spanning 248 square miles. This breathtaking body of water, the largest and most picturesque reservoir in the nation, has the capacity to hold a staggering 28.9 million acre-feet of water.

What Options Are There for Visits to the Grand Canyon?

Tour Las Vegas to Grand Canyon

Grand Canyon West Rim

The optimal choice for experiencing the Grand Canyon from the vicinity of the Vegas Strip is by heading to the West Rim . Situated at a distance of roughly 130 miles from the heart of Las Vegas, this rim offers the nearest access. The journey typically takes around two and a half hours. The West Rim boasts several distinctive features of the canyon:

  • Eagle Point: This area derives its name from a rock formation resembling an eagle and offers an amphitheater, an art and gift store, and the renowned Skywalk. The Skywalk is a glass bridge constructed by the Hualapai Indians.
  • Guano Point: Providing a comprehensive 360-degree vantage point from the Highpoint Hike, Guano Point stands as one of the premier locations for admiring the canyon’s beauty. It also features the remnants of a historic tram that once extended 8,800 feet into a guano mine.
  • Hualapai Ranch: If an overnight stay is on your agenda, this location offers lodging and traditional cowboy entertainment.

Grand Canyon South Rim Tour From Las Vegas

Grand Canyon South Rim

On the other hand, the Grand Canyon South Rim , housing the Grand Canyon’s most iconic attractions, is situated approximately 275 miles away from the Vegas Strip, translating to a four-hour drive. This region treats visitors to the most renowned and stunning vistas of the canyon:

  • Grand Canyon Village: The South Rim’s most renowned viewpoint, Mather Point, draws significant crowds due to the region’s popularity. This part of the canyon tends to be bustling with visitors.
  • Desert View Drive: Here, one can relish equally magnificent views with fewer crowds. While a short hike might be necessary, locations like Desert View Point present an all-encompassing 360-degree panorama of the canyon.
  • Hermit Road: Embark on a bicycle tour of Hermit Road and pause to take in the breathtaking views from Powell Point. This area features splendid outcroppings, offering fantastic opportunities for capturing mesmerizing photographs.

Owyhee Museum & Dam

Museum & dam tours.

May contain: architecture, building, outdoors, shelter, house, housing, porch, bench, and furniture

We offer Museum & Dam Tours to the public by reservation only.  Come take a step back in time & learn about the amazing ingenuity of the people who designed & constructed the Owyhee Project which includes the Dam, Canals, Tunnels, Hyrdo plants, Pumping Plants & water systems designed to supply the area's farms with thousands of acres of water each year.

Dam & Museum Tours are unavailable each year from March 15th - April 30th due to preperation needed for irrigation season!

Disclaimer:

Owyhee Irrigation District is committed to providing tours to the public that are accessible to the widest possible audience, however, due to the limitations apparent to facilities, not all people will be able to participate.   The Owyhee Dam construction took place from 1928-1932, the primary focus of the design & facilities was on the maintenance and economy of materials and space. As a result of these areas of focus during construction, the dam's inner workings can be damp, dark, confined, and closed off with most areas only accessible by stairways.

Tours inside the Dam require walking on wet & uneven surfaces, climbing stairs & being in a confined dark space for a period of time.  Some people with physical limitations may not be able to participate in the Dam Tours. If any member of your party has limitations that these conditions might affect, you may contact the District to see if any reasonable accommodations can be made in advance. We are actively working to increase the accessibility but cost and available space make many alterations to facilities difficult.

Please indicate in your Tour Request & notify the Dam Personnel at the time of the tour of any potential limitations.

In 1925, after studying various reports and plans made by the Government engineers, State cooperative boards, and private companies, after conducting further investigation of their own, the Bureau issued a feasibility report recommending the construction of the Owyhee Project. Work began on the storage dam and canal system in 1928, and the first water was delivered to the project lands in 1935. The Owyhee Project was designed to supply water to the entire project area by gravity flow from Owyhee Reservoir. But, because the Owyhee River's flow is frequently too low to supply the necessary water, privately-constructed pumping plants provide Snake River water to lower-lying project lands. These plants are operated under a 1936 contract between the Bureau of Reclamation and several irrigation districts. The completed Owyhee Project lies west of the Snake River in Malheur County, Oregon, and Owyhee County, Idaho. The project provides a full irrigation water supply to 105,249 acres, and a supplemental supply to 13,000 acres. Of the 118,249 acres total, 71% is in Oregon, the remainder in Idaho. The project encompasses 1,831 farm units and 8 towns.

Rory McIlroy, PGA Tour board

Rory McIlroy left the PGA Tour Policy Board last year, but now the Northern Irishman may find himself back in leadership.

Sources confirmed that the four-time major winner could see a director role on both the PGA Tour Policy Board and PGA Tour Enterprises with a vote on Wednesday, per The Guardian.

Webb Simpson, a current player director, offered his resignation Monday, requesting that McIlroy replace him.

McIlroy relinquished his leadership duties last November, which came as a shock. When he left, McIlroy stated that he wanted to focus more on his game.

It is unclear whether he will accept the role.

Professional golf is still in limbo. There has been no update on the Saudi PIF and PGA Tour negotiations after the June 6th framework agreement.

The 24-time PGA Tour winner has expressed his belief that golf’s reputation has been damaged throughout this process.

This news comes a week after McIlroy squashed his own LIV Golf rumors and told the world that he would play on the PGA Tour for the rest of his career.

His pending return to the trenches could help the morale of the membership. The DP World Tour and Fenway Sports Group are also likely pleased with this development. The PGA Tour brokered a deal worth up to $3 billion with the sports consortium earlier this year.

McIlroy and Tiger Woods have existing connections with FSG through TGL, a simulation golf league that will launch in January 2025. Yet, the World No. 2 also has an existing relationship with the governor of the Saudi Public Investment Fund, Yasir al-Rumayyan.

Woods, Patrick Cantlay, and Jordan Spieth are fellow board members who will vote on McIlroy’s possible return. McIlroy is in New Orleans this week with playing partner Shane Lowry for the Zurich Classic of New Orleans .

Bad Bunny’s Go-To Accessory Is Right on Trend

By Christian Allaire

Bad Bunny is currently on the road: The Puerto Rican rapper has embarked on his North American “Most Wanted” Tour. Last night, the star made his latest pitstop in Louisville, Kentucky—just two weeks before he will serve as a co-host at this year’s Met Gala in New York City, no less. As usual, Benito couldn’t resist bringing a strong fashion look to the stage. His cool take on suiting up included a fresh accessory that is right on trend.

What is this standout accessory, you may ask? A western-style bolo tie. Styled with a cropped double-breasted blazer and dress pants, Bad Bunny’s tailored look was punctuated by a gold and black bolo tie slipped underneath his white collared shirt. The choice is extremely current—partly because fashion is embracing the western look , and stars like Lana Del Rey and Beyoncé are going country. (Beyoncé has been wearing the jewelry style almost nonstop since she released Cowboy Carter , which saw the superstar step into a new era.)

A sleek bolo tie, however, is nothing new for Bad Bunny. The piece is one of his go-tos; he's been spotted wearing them everywhere from the stage to courtside with ex-girlfriend Kendall Jenner. And we don’t blame him—worn with a crisp collar, a bolo is a cool, fresh alternative to a stuffy traditional tie. Now that two of the world’s biggest superstars—Bunny and Beyoncé— have given them a stamp of approval, something tells us it’s only a matter of time before they become a full-on global trend.

How to buy madonna tickets for 2024 tour.

When you buy through our links, Business Insider may earn an affiliate commission. Learn more

Madonna is wrapping up her current concert tour over the next few days with a trilogy of shows in Mexico City. Prices have been climbing over recent days, so you'll have to be sharp if you want to buy Madonna tickets for these dates while you can for the The Celebration Tour.

Before she takes her final bow of the Celebration Tour concert series in April 2024, Madonna will have performed 52 shows across 27 cities in the US, Canada, and Mexico. While many dates earlier in the tour were available for under $100, these final dates will cost you at least $245 at the time of writing. Still, it's a few grand cheaper than the Swifties have been paying this year.

  • More events: Olivia Rodrigo tickets | Taylor Swift tickets | Adele tickets | Rolling Stones tickets

With the concert series being a retrospective celebration of her iconic career, The Celebration Tour's setlist unsurprisingly includes plenty of Madonna's timeless hits. Songs like "Like a Prayer," "Vogue," "Don't Cry for Me Argentina," and "Like a Virgin" have been performed across various dates on her tour.

We've got you covered if you're still looking for tickets to Madonna's Celebration Tour. Here's our breakdown of Madonna's remaining 2024 tour schedule, purchasing details, and original and resale ticket prices. You can also browse the available tickets for sale on StubHub and Vivid Seats at your leisure.

Madonna 2024 tour schedule

All concert times are listed in local time zones.

How to buy tickets for Madonna's 2024 concert tour

Madonna tickets have been on sale for a while now, so all original ones via Ticketmaster are long gone.

However, Madonna tickets are still available through verified resale vendors like StubHub and Vivid Seats .

How much do Madonna tickets cost?

The price for standard original tickets to Madonna's 2024 tour varies depending on date, location, and demand. For example, concert dates in major cities like New York City tend to be more expensive.

Standard original tickets still available on Ticketmaster a few weeks ago  were comparable to prices on verified resale platforms. However, the remaining original tickets have all been snapped up though, so resale vendors are your only hope now.

The Celebration Tour originally had VIP tickets available for premium prices. Madonna's 2024 concert series had The Immaculate VIP Package, Iconic VIP Package), You Can Dance Premium Ticket Package, and Where's The Party Premium Ticket Package. The prices for original tickets for each package on Ticketmaster started at $1,750, $895, $545, and $475, respectively.

Who is opening for Madonna's tour?

Madonna has not announced any additional opening acts for her 2024 concert dates. However, the artist is joined by Bob the Drag Queen, a special guest in each of her shows, who helps introduce the concert and interacts with Madonna as the emcee.

Madonna's 2024 tour began with the international leg in Europe, so the only remaining concerts in The Celebration Tour outside the United States are in Mexico.

In April, she'll have five performances in Mexico City, where she'll take her final bow of The Celebration Tour on April 26.

Diddy's assistant brendan paul charged with felony drug possession, brendan paul diddy's assistant charged with drug felony.

Diddy 's associate, Brendan Paul , has just been charged with one felony count of drug possession, and it could spell trouble for the rap mogul.

Paul, a former Syracuse men's basketball player who worked as Diddy's main assistant, was arrested in March at the Miami-Opa Locka Executive Airport after feds searched his bag and allegedly found cocaine and marijuana candy. He was arrested and taken into custody, at the same time the feds were raiding Diddy's Miami and L.A. mansions .

The 25-year-old, who was extremely close to Diddy and was privy to Diddy's comings and goings, pled not guilty. His lawyer, Brian Bieber , tells TMZ, "We will be dealing with this case in the courtroom, not the court of public opinion."

As we have extensively reported, Diddy is in the crosshairs of the feds. He's being investigated for sex trafficking, illegal gun possession and other alleged crimes.

The wild card now is Brendan Paul. The feds are clearly not eyeing this as a major crime, but they're now in a position to offer Paul a deal ... possibly dropping or reducing the charges in return for cooperation in the Diddy case.

Stay tuned ...
