This is the third largest city in Vietnam and offers visitors who make the trip here the perfect mix of modern and traditional touches. 1. Visit the Ba Na Hills

5. Watch the show at Dragon Bridge

The main attraction in the center of Da Nang is undoubtedly the large Dragon Bridge which stretches over an ominous 666 meters and has the claim to fame of being the longest bridge of its kind in the country.

As the name suggests, the bridge was built in the shape of a dragon which is meant to represent good luck in Vietnam.

Every Saturday and Sunday at 9 pm you can walk down to the waterfront and watch a show which lights up the bridge and the dragon even spits out fire and water from its mouth.

6. Visit the Cham Museum

Many visitors don’t realize that Da Nang has a huge number of interesting museums and the Cham Museum will tell you everything that you want to know about the Cham people in Vietnam.

This museum also has the claim to fame of being the only Cham museum in the world and it first opened its doors in 1915 at the time of the French colonial period.

7. Enjoy the views at the Hai Van Pass

The Hai Van Pass is one of the top attractions in this part of Vietnam and rests at around 500 meters above sea level.

8. Travel to Son Tra Mountain

Son Tra Mountain translates as Monkey Mountain in English and this is part of a spectacular national park in Da Nang that is located at around 700 meters above sea level.

11. Relax at Non Nuoc Beach

If you want to get outside the city then head to Non Nuoc Beach which is around a 20 minute drive away from the center of Da Nang.

The beach is regularly voted one of the most beautiful in the world and you will find white powdery sand here that backs on to azure waters.

The pagoda is known for its relaxing and serene setting and you will find a central courtyard with a statue of the Buddha that is 1.1 meters high.

Here are also additional statues of the Goddess of Mercury as well as Dai The Chi Bodhisattva.

13. Visit the Da Nang Cathedral

The Da Nang Cathedral is one of the most famous catholic churches in Vietnam thanks to its amazing design features.

The cathedral dates from 1923 and it also goes by its local nickname which is Con Ga or Rooster Church.

This shopping area has been here since the 1940s and it was renovated in 1984 to its present form.

19. Visit the Ho Chi Minh Museum

Some of the galleries are made up of collections of Soviet and Chinese weapons which will fill you in on some of the military history of Vietnam.

The Han River Bridge is one of four main bridges in Da Nang and is also a top attraction for visitors to the city.

This is a cable supported swing bridge and was the first of its kind in the region.

Visitors flock here at night as the bridge is fully illuminated by colorful changing lights and if you stop here around midnight you can watch an amazing spectacle as the bridge swings on its axis and open up to allow ships to pass by.

21. Visit Asia Park

If you fancy getting out of Da Nang then you can travel to Asia Park which is located on the coast and is a large amusement and cultural facility.

The first one is Banh Xeo Ba Duong. The restaurant serves customers with a platter of pancakes along with beef, beansprouts, pork, prawns or chicken. There is a bowl of soup made by fishing sauce, sugar, lemon, chili and garlic.

11. Visit Ba Na Hills

Ba Na Hills is a mountaintop resort complex that offers a wide range of great activities. For example, you can ride the cable cars, stroll the French Village, ride the Alpine Coaster and take the 4D Death Race experience. 

In order to get to Ba Na Hills, you can choose a taxi, motorbike or open bus. The best time to visit is from April to August. This is the peak season when there are thousands of travellers coming to enjoy the atmosphere of Ba Na Hills.

12. Shop at Han market

The Golden Bridge Hands

Vietnam’s newly debuted Golden Bridge is popping up on screens around the world. Two giant stone hands jut out of the mountainside appearing to cradle a delicate strand of gold that is now packed with eager camera-wielding tourists. The bridge offers breathtaking panoramic views of the valley below as well as the rolling Trường Sơn mountains. This architectural marvel is suspended nearly 4,600 feet above sea level and was built to entice more tourists into Danang’s Bà Nà Hills. Mission definitely accomplished.

This mountain at the north end of Danang’s My Khe beach is nicknamed Monkey Mountain for the rare species of monkey that dwells inside the dense forests. Sơn Trà Mountain was a former U.S. Army base for radar and communications, with some of the radar domes still visible today. Tourists usually rent a scooter or hire a local to drive the steep, winding road to the peak to see the sprawling city and coastline in all its glory. Several local tour companies organize hikes up and around the mountain, where lucky tourists might catch a glimpse of some playful monkeys.

Ba Na Hills SunWorld

This fairtytale-like hill station is modeled on an old European city complete with castles, cobblestone streets, and beautiful courtyards. The complex also features Buddhist statues and temples built for entertainment only, which makes for a quirky combination of old East and West. To get to the top, visitors must ride the world’s longest cable car lift which offers spectacular scenery of the valley below. Temperatures atop the mountain are refreshingly cool and there are endless photo opportunities at this unique complex. Tickets to Bà Nà hills don’t come cheap but they are well worth the stunning views and long list of facilities to keep the whole family entertained for the day.

The Marble Mountains

The Marble Mountains are a cluster of five mountains named after the earth’s elements: Kim (metal), Thuy (water), Moc (wood), Hoa (fire) and Tho (earth). The mountain accessible to tourists is Thuy, where a labyrinth of caves and passageways await exploration. There are several stunning pagodas and temples nestled in different areas of the mountain so it’s best to purchase a small map before embarking on the hike. The largest cave’s entrance is at the base of the mountain and is described as ‘hell’ by the locals; various creepy statues and engravings hidden inside this deep cave depict an afterlife of suffering and torture. Make sure to wear a pair of trainers with some grip – the marble steps are slippery and not suited for flip-flops.

Museum of Cham Sculpture

Danang’s Museum of Cham Sculpture houses the world’s most extensive collection of ancient Cham relics. Champa was an ancient kingdom that flourished in southern Vietnam beginning in the 4th century. The Mỹ Sơn ruins are the former worship grounds for the kingdom and is a famous tourist destination in the country. If you’re looking to continue your education about these ancient peoples, definitely pay this museum a visit and spend a day soaking up fascinating knowledge about this archaic culture.

My Khe Beach

The most popular beach in Danang is also one of the cleanest and most beautiful. Clear waters lap the shore of a white-sand beach that is framed by picturesque mountains and dotted with umbrellas and chairs. The beach is also surrounded by restaurants offering fresh seafood and cold beers. My Khe is the place to try some adventurous water sports such as parasailing and jet-skiing or simply snap some gorgeous shots of one of Vietnam’s most gorgeous beaches. It’s best to visit My Khe in the morning or early afternoon to beat the crowds that pour in around 4 p.m.

My Son Sanctuary

Recognized as a UNESCO World Heritage site, the Mỹ Sơn Holy Site hosts the abandoned ruins of Vietnam’s ancient Champa civilization that once occupied southern Vietnam. Mỹ Sơn depicts intricate carvings of various Hindu gods and makes an informative, fascinating day trip. A tour with a knowledgeable guide is highly recommended so you get the most from the area. Only a few buildings remain as the majority were destroyed in a carpet-bombing campaign by the Americans during the war; there are large bomb craters still visible around the site. Dragon Bridge

One of Danang’s most iconic symbols, this intricately designed bridge depicts a fire-breathing dragon heading toward the East Sea. It won a 2014 Diamond award for Engineering Excellence and weighs 8,164 tonnes and stretches an ominous 666 metres in length. The bridge is best seen during a walk alongside the river after the sun sets as the bridge gradually changes colour every few minutes. Not to mention it’s an excellent backdrop for a good Instagram pic.

Linh Ung Pagoda

While frolicking in the clear waters of My Khe beach, you might notice a gigantic white statue nestled in the mountain at the far end of the beach. It is the stunning 67-meter tall Lady Buddha majestically looking out over Da Nang Bay. Legend says the Lady Buddha provides protection to fishermen who venture out into rough seas and provides them safe passage. Aside from this gorgeous sculpture, the pagoda itself is one of the largest in the city, featuring a curved roof and pillars surrounded by dragon statues.

Although many people only choose to spend a day or two in Da Nang this city has so much to offer. For the best experience, you’ll want to spend at 3 days in Da Nang, and even more, if you’re using this place as a base to take some day trips.

What are the best day trips from Da Nang?

Both Hue and Hoi An can be visited on a day trip . So if you’re not planning to stay in those cities you can visit them from Da Nang. However, you’re going to want to spend a full day (or near enough) at each. If that’s the case, allow at least five days here so you’re not rushing around! Lady Buddha is the tallest Buddha statue in the country so as you can imagine, it’s pretty impressive! The statue is located on the Son Tra Peninsula and is just 8.5 miles (14 km) from the city center of Da Nang.

Boasting a height of nearly 220 feet (67 meters) and a diameter of 114 feet (35 meters), its size is the equivalent of a 30-story building. Now, that’s something you don’t see every day! Due to its sea-facing location, you’ll get impressive views of the surrounding area. If it’s a clear day, you’ll even get striking views of Son Tra, The Marble Mountains, and Da Nang city.

This fantastic tour will take you to the Lady Buddha, as well as Monkey Mountain and Am Phu Cave. It includes lunch, hotel pick-up and drop-off, some entrance fees, and an English-speaking guide!

2. Head to Ba Na Hills

For starters, this is where you’ll find the iconic ‘Golden Hands’ or Golden Bridge that’s taken over Instagram. There’s also an awesome cable car ride that you’ll take to the top, and you can visit the miniature French village too!

When it comes to visiting Ba Na Hills independently you can either catch a taxi or shuttle bus. Your other option is to take a tour and there are plenty of options! 3. Relax on My Khe Beach

Boasting pristine white sands, crystal-clear (and warm) waters, and swaying palm trees, it’s the definition of tropical paradise. Whether you’re just looking to glimpse at its beauty, or you’d prefer to spend a few hours here, this isn’t a place you want to leave off your Da Nang itinerary!

You’ll generally find that most hotels are located in this area so you’ll have easy access to My Khe Beach. Unlike many of the beaches in Southeast Asia, it’s free to visit and extremely clean. If you don’t have the chance to visit Mui Ne , then this is the place to visit for some beach time.

4. Wander around the Da Nang Museum of Cham Sculpture

Visiting the Da Nang Museum of Cham Sculpture is one of the best things to do in the city. The museum was built in the early 1900s and is home to the largest collection of Cham sculptures and artwork on Earth. Now, that’s a pretty big reason to visit so don’t leave it off your Da Nang itinerary!

For those who don’t know, the Kingdom of Champa used to control South and Central Vietnam until 1697. In the late 15th century, the Champa empire declined and was eventually dissolved in 1832.

What remains can be found in this museum, and there are nearly 300 sculptural works to be seen here. This date back to between the 7th and 15th centuries so you’ll be admiring a part of Vietnam’s history.

Upon your visit to the Da Nang Museum of Cham Sculpture, you can purchase an English-language guidebook that will help to explain the importance of the sculptures.

5. Take a day trip to the Marble Mountains

The five Marble Mountains are named after the five elements (metal, water, wood, fire, and earth). They hold special significance to the people of Vietnam as they’re known to be a spiritual site!

To climb to the top, you’ll have to walk up a fair few stairs. However, the views from the top are certainly worth it. You can also explore the network of caves that are found underneath, with Huyen Khong being the largest of the caves. If you’d prefer not to visit on your own then you can take a tour of the Marble Mountains . You’ll get to explore this spectacular wonder, before heading to Hoi An Ancient Town. This way, all your transport is included and your dinner is too!

6. Walk over the Dragon bridge

No Danang itinerary is complete without walking over the city’s iconic Dragon Bridge. This is one of the coolest bridges you’ll ever see, as if you hadn’t guessed by the name – it depicts a flying dragon. The design of this dragon was inspired by the Ly dynasty and is an epic sight to see.

The Dragon Bridge spans across the Han River and is an impressive 2,185 feet (666 meters) long. There are six vehicle lanes and two lanes for pedestrians so it’s very wide, and it’s thought to have cost around $88 million which is crazy!

The incredible design isn’t the only thing that draws people to the Dragon Bridge. This bridge is home to 15,000 LED lights and is lit up at night time, which is one of the best times to visit. If you’re in Da Nang on a Saturday or Sunday, then you’re in for an even more magical experience. On the weekends at 9 pm, the bridge has a fire and water performance where the dragon breathes fire!

7. Admire the views from Sơn Trà Mountain

The Mountain is located at around 2,2800 feet (695 meters) above sea level so as you can imagine, the views from the top are rather impressive. Not only will you be treated to striking views of Da Nang, but you’ll get to admire the city’s breathtaking coastline too. During your time here, you’ll also want to leave some time free to visit some of the attractions including the iconic Lady Buddha.

This amazing 4-hour tour will not only take you to the Marble Mountains but you’ll get to explore the Son Tra Peninsula. Here, you’ll get to admire the impressive views, visit Lady Buddha, and marvel at Son Tra Linh Ung Pagoda!

8. Drive some of the iconic Hai Van Pass

The Hai Van Pass is one of the most scenic roads in Vietnam making it a must for any Da Nang itinerary. Known as the ‘Ocean Cloud Pass’, this road is a 21 km long pass that connects Hue and Da Nang. Aside from getting spectacular sea views, the pass also runs through the Annamite Range.

This road has become a popular tourist attraction and many people choose to hire a scooter so they can drive part of the pass. Due to a new road being built in 2005, you won’t experience much traffic along this route either which is always a bonus.

For those who are experienced in driving a scooter, you can head out on this Hai Van Pass adventure if you don’t fancy taking on the drive by yourself. Or, this tour also includes a private scooter driver if you’d prefer to sit in the back seat. Either way, this isn’t an experience you want to miss.

9. Try a cooking class

If there’s one thing Vietnam is known for it’s its delicious food, and Da Nang is no different! You’ll find endless restaurants in the city so there are lots of foodie options. Two of the most popular dishes are Banh Nam and Banh Bot Loc – both are a kind of rice dumpling cake.

However, to make the most of your foodie experience in Da Nang you’ll want to take a cooking class and there are plenty of options!

This unique home cooking class is a great choice as it’s run by a local family so offers a very authentic experience. During this class, you’ll get to visit a market to pick up fresh ingredients, and then you’ll cook four Vietnamese dishes. You’ll also get to try the local coffee!

One of the best things about this tour is that it’s limited to 9 people so you won’t have to worry about an overcrowded experience. If you’ve got the time, I’d recommend including a cooking class on your Da Nang itinerary!

10. Have some fun at Asia Park

Asia Park is another quirky theme park that’s owned by the Sun World Group. It’s located on the edge of the Han River and is known for its iconic attractions, cool rides, and diverse cuisine.

The park is split up into three main zones; a modern outdoor park, a cultural park, and the Sun Wheel – one of the city’s most popular attractions! It marks the entrance to Asia Park and is one of the highest Ferris wheels in the world at an impressive 377 feet (115 meters) high. The views from the top are incredible, and the wheel is also lit up at night.

Another popular area of this theme park is the Cultural Park which features replicas of cultural landmarks and historical sites from all over Asia! If you’re simply looking to have some fun, then there are a couple of rides to try out too.

The park is open from 3 pm – 10 pm as its primary focus is children. Just keep that in mind, because you won’t be able to visit in the morning or during midday which many people usually do with theme parks!

11. Take a day trip to My Son

There are plenty of day trip opportunities from this coastal city, but a visit to My Son is a must for any Da Nang itinerary! My Son Sanctuary is a UNESCO World Heritage Site that’s situated within a rainforest.

Built between the 4th and 13th centuries CE, this place offers you the chance to explore Vietnam’s history. At around 1600 years old, these ruins show the influence of the Champa Kingdom and you’ll get to see this through the impressive tower temples that remain.

My Son actually used to have around 70 structures. These were mostly dedicated to the deities of Krishna, Shiva, and Vishnu. Unfortunately, most of the temples here were destroyed during the Vietnam War. 12. Explore the Imperial City of Hue on a tour

You’ll find plenty of awesome things to do here like visiting the abandoned waterpark, exploring the Mausoleum of Emperor Khai Dinh, and admiring Thien Mu Pagoda. You’ve also got the Mausoleum of Emperor Tu Duc and the Perfume River!

However, the city’s most famous attraction is the Imperial Citadel, or the ‘Imperial City’ as it’s also known. It’s an enclosed city within Hue itself and was once the imperial capital of the country during the Nguyễn dynasty. Inside, you’ll find so much to explore but don’t forget about the Purple Forbidden City!

This very cool 10-hour tour includes pick-up in Da Nang and transport to Hue, where you’ll get to see the very best of this Imperial City. Firstly, you’ll drive to Hue along the iconic Hai Van Pass. Then, you’ll visit some of the city’s most popular attractions like the Imperial Citadel and Thien Mu Pagoda.

13. Go snorkeling at Cham Island

Although the Cham Islands are located off the coast of Hoi An, this snorkeling tour will pick you up in Da Nang. You’ll then be taken to the islands on a traditional Vietnamese boat. Whilst on the island, you can snorkel, dive, try underwater walking or simply relax in the hammocks. The choice is yours!

14. Admire the architecture of Da Nang Cathedral

Da Nang Cathedral is one of the most beautiful religious buildings you’ll come across in Vietnam. It was the only church built here during the French colonial period, so as you can imagine the architecture is unique. This cathedral has been around since 1924 and is in fantastic condition considering the subsequent wars that would follow.

The first thing you’ll notice about Da Nang Cathedral is that it’s pink! In fact, it gives off very similar vibes to Tan Dinh Church in Ho Chi Minh City ! Although the exterior is extremely impressive, make sure you head inside too if the church is open.

Boasting breathtaking stained glass windows, engraved motifs, and impressive statues that depict events from the Bible, there’s so much to see here. Even better, the cathedral is free to enter but you’ll want to research the mass times before your visit.

If you’re not planning to stay in Hoi An then you should definitely include a day trip on your Danang itinerary! This city was once an ancient trading port that used to link China and Japan with the rest of Asia, and there’s still evidence of this port today. The most popular area to visit is the Old Quarter. Here, you’ll find ancient yellow buildings, colorful lanterns, and stone roads making it extremely charming. You can also head to one of the tailor shops, take a boat trip along the Thu Bon River, or visit the Precious Heritage Project!

How to Get Around Danang

First of all, you’ll need to reach the city. Now, you can either travel overland from some of the other cities or fly to Da Nang International Airport. If you opt for the latter, then you can either catch a taxi or bus into the city center.

If you’d prefer to have your transport organized in advance, you can book a private shuttle . This is especially handy after a long flight, and you won’t have to barter down your taxi price in the airport.

Once you’ve arrived in the city and found your accommodation, there are a couple of ways to get around the city. One of the most popular ways to get around is b y taxi or motorcycle taxi, but you may need to negotiate the price.

There are a couple of public bus routes you can use but this method of transport isn’t advanced, not compared to the likes of Hanoi or Hoi Chi Minh anyway. Lastly, you can rent a motorbike for a couple of days if you wish – this will be especially handy, as some of the sights in this article are located out of the city.

Best Time to Visit Da Nang, Vietnam

The best time to visit Da Nang is considered to be January-May as this is when the Dry Season takes place . The Dry Season actually lasts until August but in the months running up to it, temperatures can reach up to 104°F (40°C). Due to the intense heat and humidity, you’ll want to visit before this if possible.

Between January and May, the temperature fluctuates between 68-91°F (20-33°C) with higher temperatures being encountered during March and May. Before these months, the climate is relatively cold and dry and you won’t encounter too much rain either.

The Wet Season in Da Nang falls between September to December and is generally split into three phases. September is the month for typhoons, while October and November encounter the most rainfall. If you’re traveling at this time of year, then December is by far the best time to visit during the wet season!

My daughter and I have four days in HCM and four days in Da Nang (early November). As I’m 79 I am not sure the tunnels would be that suitable! Any tips please. Last year we visited Hanoi and Sapa and Halong Bay and went to the all day Sunday market boardering China. Truly amazing. We loved Vietnam and its people so much and that is why we are doing a little of the Southern part.

Hey Jennie, it is so great you loved Vietnam so much that you are going back to explore more. I loved Vietnam too. I still recommend the tunnels as it is a very educational place to visit, even if you decide not to go inside the tunnel, which you won’t be missing anything, since you only get to see a small part of it. But you still can learn from the site and how the lived there during the war. I recommend you take the tour on the Mekong Delta, as you will also get to see many interesting sites, and the river market. Safe Travels,

Da Nang is situated in the middle of Vietnam, so its climate is a blend of both the North and South regions, creating a relatively mild weather, not excessively hot like Ho Chi Minh City and not overly cold like Hanoi .

The city of Da Nang typically experiences two distinct seasons each year:

• Dry season from January to July .
• Rainy season from August to December .

The peak domestic tourist season usually lasts from April to August. During this time, it’s the hottest period of the year in Da Nang, attracting a large number of visitors for beach activities and relaxation, which can lead to slightly higher service prices. This is also when the city hosts the International Fireworks Festival, food festivals, and vibrant cultural and artistic performances.

From mid-September to the end of December, the weather in Da Nang becomes pleasant, with no intense heat and occasional light rains that do not last long. The peak domestic tourist season has passed, so airfare, accommodation, and dining prices are significantly reduced.

From early January to the end of March is the international tourist season in Da Nang . The weather is cool and comfortable with minimal rain, ideal for exploring the city. Prices for hotel services, airfare, transportation, and dining during this time are considered to be the most stable throughout the year.

Transportation to Da Nang

There are several available modes of transportation to reach Da Nang, and you can travel by air, rail, or road, all of which are quite convenient. Due to Da Nang’s central location, tourists from both the North and South of Vietnam often choose to travel by air to save time, as flight ticket prices to Da Nang are quite affordable.

Currently, domestic airlines such as Vietnam Airlines, Vietjet Air, and Bamboo Airways operate flights to Da Nang, with an average flight time of 1 – 1.5 hours for departures from major cities. You can easily find and book flight tickets to Da Nang at attractive prices.

In addition to airplanes, trains are also a popular mode of transportation for tourists, as Da Nang has a train station located right in the city center, making travel easy. If you have more time, around 15 hours on the train, you’ll have the opportunity to admire the natural scenery on both sides of the railway as it passes through various provinces and cities.

With road transportation, you can either rent a private car or purchase bus tickets to travel to Da Nang. However, Vietnam’s highway network is not fully developed, so you might experience some exhaustion while traveling by this mode of transportation.

Best tourist attractions in Da Nang

Exploring Da Nang by river is a quite interesting experience and a highly favored service in the city. You will board a tourist boat, enjoy a drink, and cruise along the Han River around the city. You’ll admire the sparkling bridges illuminated in the evening, enjoying a relaxed and pleasant atmosphere during the 1 hour 30-minute journey.

My Khe Beach

Stretching about 1 km, My Khe Beach is located right in the center of Da Nang and has been voted as one of the most beautiful beaches in the world, making it a must-visit destination. At My Khe Beach, you can engage in various exciting activities such as canoeing, parasailing, surfing, windsurfing, enjoying the amusement park at East Sea Park, snorkeling to view coral reefs, and many other activities catering to tourists.

Ba Na Hills

Ba Na Hills is a grandly invested international-level tourist destination located about 40 km from the center of Da Nang. To reach it, you’ll drive to the cable car station and then take a cable car to the top of Ba Na Mountain. During the cable car ride, you’ll be treated to many beautiful views below, and as you ascend, the temperature gradually decreases, so it’s advisable to bring a light jacket.

Ba Na Hills boasts various architectural styles, from the classical designs of European castles, the romance of French villages, wine cellars, to unique amusement areas. Especially, the famous Golden Bridge with its distinctive hand-shaped architecture amidst nature is an iconic sight not to be missed.

Son Tra Peninsula

The Son Tra Peninsula is just 8 km from the center of Da Nang and features a unique coastal pristine forest ecosystem in Vietnam. Standing atop the mountain, you can take in the entire city of Da Nang. Here, you can engage in many exciting activities like snorkeling to view coral reefs, fishing with local fishermen, enjoying a helicopter view of the city, or visiting the Chessboard Peak. Don’t miss the Linh Ung Pagoda located on the hilltop.

Non Nuoc Beach

Non Nuoc Beach is beloved by many tourists for its smooth white sand, gentle sloping gradient, clear blue sea with mild waves, and an ideal area of offshore reefs that’s perfect for outings and camping. When viewed from above, the beach forms a large crescent shape, winding around the base of Ngu Hanh Son Mountain, creating a truly beautiful natural scene.

Bridges in Da Nang

Da Nang is graced with large rivers flowing through the city, which is why it’s not lacking in famous bridges. These bridges not only serve transportation and economic development but also become tourist attractions and symbols of Da Nang. The most prominent among them are the Han River Swing Bridge and the Dragon Bridge.

Han River Swing Bridge

This is Vietnam’s first swing bridge. The part of the bridge situated on the central pillar can rotate 90 degrees parallel to the river, creating a gap for large cargo ships to pass through. This process takes about 15 minutes according to a fixed daily schedule, making it an exciting time that many tourists gather to witness.

Da Nang Dragon Bridge

The hallmark of this bridge is its depiction of a dragon with a length equal to that of the bridge itself. What’s more impressive is that this dragon can breathe fire or spew water on scheduled days of the week. The evening is the most beautiful time to visit the bridge, as it’s illuminated by thousands of LED lights.

The schedule for the Da Nang Dragon Bridge’s fire show is at 9:00 PM every Saturday, Sunday, and major holidays to entertain tourists. The fire show consists of two rounds, each featuring nine fire-breathing displays. Following this is a water display with three rounds, each featuring one water spout. This activity has made the Dragon Bridge an impressive tourist destination in Da Nang, attracting a multitude of tourists each year.

Additionally, there’s the Thuan Phuoc Bridge, the largest cable-stayed bridge in Vietnam, the Tran Thi Ly Bridge, named after a heroic woman during the anti-American resistance, and the recently constructed Love Bridge.

Museums in Da Nang

The Cham Sculpture Museum is located at 2 2/9 Street, Hai Chau District, Da Nang. It is the sole museum dedicated to Cham culture, preserving artifacts from the ancient Champa Kingdom.

The Da Nang Fine Arts Museum is situated at 78 Le Duan Street, Hai Chau District, Da Nang. This museum preserves and displays over 1,000 modern artworks and folk art pieces, showcasing traditional Vietnamese handicrafts.

The Buddhist Museum is within the Quan The Am Pagoda complex, at 48 Su Van Hanh Street, Ngu Hanh Son District, Da Nang. Here, you can admire over 200 ancient artifacts related to Buddhism.

Ngu Hanh Son

Ngu Hanh Son, located 10 km from the city center of Da Nang, is a complex of five limestone mountains, including Kim Son, Moc Son, Thuy Son, Hoa Son, and Tho Son. This tourist spot leaves an impression not only due to its majestic landscapes but also its cultural architecture, bearing a significant historical imprint. This location has been recognized as a national-level historical and cultural heritage.

Tien Sa Lighthouse

Tien Sa Lighthouse, also known as Son Tra Lighthouse, was built by the French and officially put into operation in 1902. It is hailed as the most beautiful lighthouse in Vietnam. Its purpose was to assist fishermen in determining their positions within the maritime areas of Hue and Da Nang. Tourists exploring Da Nang can visit this place to enjoy a breathtaking aerial view.

Markets in Da Nang

If you want to purchase local goods and culinary products in Da Nang, you should visit Con Market and Han Market.

Situated on Ong Ich Khiem Street in the heart of the city, Con Market is considered a snacking paradise with numerous stalls bustling with customers. It offers a wide variety of food items, especially Da Nang’s specialties such as rolled pork rice paper and Mi Quang noodles.

Han Market is also centrally located, near the Han River Swing Bridge. The market dates back to the 1940s and offers a diverse range of goods, including clothing, bags, souvenirs, and food products.

Parks in Da Nang

Asia Park – located right in the city center, is a large amusement park with a plethora of thrilling rides. Here, you can find intense attractions such as high-speed roller coasters, free-fall towers, an indoor play area with ball-shooting games, as well as various rides for children like carousels and monorails. Especially noteworthy is the Sun Wheel, a giant Ferris wheel, where you should definitely have an experience.

APEC Park is a recently completed attraction that stands out with its unique architectural design featuring a dome shaped like a soaring kite.

Mikazuki Danang Water Park

This destination is situated within the Da Nang Mikazuki Japanese Resorts & Spa entertainment complex. The water park consists of both indoor and outdoor areas. You can fully enjoy the water park’s various activities without worrying about weather conditions, as the water temperature is maintained at a comfortable 30 degrees Celsius (86 degrees Fahrenheit) for the best experience for visitors.

Hai Van Pass

If you’re someone passionate about conquering nature, then you definitely can’t miss Hai Van Pass with its winding route – on one side, towering mountains, on the other, the blue sea and white clouds. Hai Van Pass is about an hour’s motorbike ride from the center of Da Nang. The pass spans 21 kilometers, with its highest point at 496 meters above sea level. “Hai Van” translates to “Sea Cloud.” This place was once commented on by Jeremy Clarkson, the host of the reality TV show Top Gear, as “one of the most beautiful coastal roads in the world.”

Craft Villages in Da Nang

Cam Ne mat-weaving village is located in Hoa Tien commune, Hoa Vang district, about 14 kilometers southwest of Da Nang’s center. This place has long been known for producing traditional flower mats, which were present even during the reign of the Nguyen dynasty.

Tuy Loan rice paper-making village is situated in Hoa Phong commune, Hoang Vang district, about 15 kilometers from the city center. This over-500-year-old village is perfect for exploring Da Nang’s history. The village is renowned for its craft of making rice paper and Mi Quang noodles.

Non Nuoc Stone Carving Village is located at the foot of the Ngu Hanh mountain. This traditional craft village, with a history of nearly 400 years, is famous for its beautiful and intricate stone carvings, created by the skilled hands of artisans.

Da Nang cuisine

The culinary scene in Da Nang is quite diverse, offering distinctive flavors and many enticing dishes, especially seafood. However, there are three quintessentially Vietnamese dishes that we would like to introduce:

Quang Noodles

Although this dish originates from Quang Nam, Vietnam, anyone visiting Da Nang cannot forget to savor this specialty. The dish features simple and familiar ingredients such as chicken, pork, shrimp, and more.

Thinly sliced boiled or grilled pork is combined with fresh herbs and complementary ingredients, then rolled in a soft and elastic rice paper. After rolling, it’s dipped in a special sauce called “mam nem” before savoring.

11 things to do in Danang, Vietnam, with a 7-day itinerary

While Ho Chi Minh City and Hoi An are often the first cities that come to mind when people think of Vietnam, Danang offers a refreshing change of pace for those who prefer a more relaxed and laid-back atmosphere. If you’re not particularly drawn to cultural sites or the hustle and bustle of big cities, Danang is definitely worth considering as a travel destination.

From stunning beaches and natural wonders to historical and cultural sites, Danang has it all. Whether you’re a foodie looking to sample Vietnam’s finest food, a history buff interested in the neighbouring cities’ rich cultural heritage, or an adventure-seeker looking for thrilling sports, Danang has something for everyone.

This article contains everything you can do in Danang, Vietnam. My full itinerary is listed down at the end of the article.

1. Cafe hop along Han River

Most travel articles will start off their list with very mainstream touristy options. But, I believe that the vibrant cafe scene in Danang deserves the first mention.

Al fresco dining is very popular in Danang. Most cafes are open-aired (but sheltered), and many of them have seats by the road. You don’t have too worry too much about the weather. Danang is constantly more cooling than most tropical countries since it’s a coastal city.

Strolling up the Han River, you’ll find a cluster of cafes and restaurants. Of which, Cong Ca Phe is famous amongst locals and tourists alike. While it is a coffee chop chain, the quality of the coffee remains uncompromised. 

Tradition Vietnamese coffee, also known as Den for black coffee, and Bac Xiu for white coffee (condensed milk), starts from VND29,000. You can also get their signature Coconut Coffee (VND55,000) .

The two other cafes that are located beside Cong Ca Phe are Ut Tich Cafe and L2B Coffee & Cake. Both menus are very similar to Cong Ca Phe; just having a different ambience.

2. Thrifting in Danang

There are two kinds of thrift stores. The non-curated ones where prices can go as low as $1. But of course, you’ll have to sift through piles of clothes for the gems. On the other end of the spectrum, there are the curated vintage stores, where everything is already sorted out for you, everything is clean. But, prices shoot up to $30.

The thrift scene is Danang offers curated clothes at “non-curated prices”. Ralph Lauren shirts from $2, Dickies 874 work pants from $5, a range of legitimate sports bombers from $5… This is what I bought for $25: Ralph Lauren shirt, Ellesse windbreaker, Yomiuri Giants baseball windbreaker, Beverly Hills Polo Club white polo shirt, and

There are only about five thrift stores in Danang that are worth visiting, and we highly recommend Bo Vintage for apparels, and Nhim Retro 2hand for accessories.

3. Day trip to Hoi An Old Town

About 40 minutes drive from Danang City, you’ll find yourself in the beautiful city of Hoi An, a charming and historic city located on the central coast of Vietnam.

This UNESCO World Heritage Site is known for its well-preserved ancient town. In addition to strolling the lantern-lit streets and admiring the historic buildings, tourists can also enjoy activities such as taking a cooking class to learn how to make traditional dishes, getting custom-made clothing from one of the many tailors in town, or taking a bike ride to the nearby beaches and countryside.

While you’re there, remember to savour a cup of Egg Coffee (VND59,000) — one of the best egg coffees I have had in Vietnam — at Hoi An Roastery.

4. Surfing, and other water sports along My Khe Beach

If you’re a water sports enthusiast, My Khe Beach should definitely be on your list of must-visit destinations in Danang, Vietnam.

Known for its excellent waves, this beach is a popular spot for surfing, particularly during the monsoon season from September to March. Surfboards and other equipment can be rented from local shops along the beach, and there are also several surf schools offering lessons for beginners. Out of the few that are listed online (based on just the prices, duration, and location), I chose Da Nang Outdoor Adventures. You can either book the lessons on their official website, or through TripAdvisor .

For $52.55, the lesson includes a surfboard, a wetsuit, and two-hours with the instructors. Each class has a maximum capacity of six to ensure that all the students have enough time to learn from the instructors. The two-hour lesson starts off with a 30-minute introduction to the water sport, and learning the basics on land, before attempting to surf in the water. Alternatively, you can rent the surfboard for $5 for four hours.

Surfing is not the only water activity available at My Khe Beach. Jet skiing, parasailing, and banana boat rides are also popular options for those seeking a thrill.

5. Relax at Hyatt Regency Danang

If you prefer a more relaxed pace, and are not particularly drawn to sightseeing, cultural sites, cafe hopping, or shopping, treat yourself to a resort to fully immerse yourself in your rejuvenating getaway in Danang.

Nothing screams “tranquility” like waking up to the serene rhythm of the tide. Hyatt Regency Danang’s 1 King Bed Ocean View provides an uninterrupted view of the beach. You can easily spend one or two days in the resort even though it’s conveniently located near popular tourist attractions. For starters, a gorgeous pool, a fitness centre with a sauna in the changing room, the VIE Spa (advanced reservation is recommended), and water sports activities such as a body boarding, kayaking, and standup paddle boarding. If you’re not sure what you want to do, let the resort decide for you. Once you check in, you’ll find a schedule for their recreation activities which start from 6:45am to 8pm. These activities include yoga, beachfront meditation, boxing classes, volleyball and movie night.

6. Hue City Day Tour

Hue City is a famous tourist destination in Danang, Vietnam, and for good reason. The city served as the imperial capital of Vietnam during the Nguyen Dynasty, and its rich history and cultural heritage are evident in its stunning architecture.

You can of course, rent a car, or book a private driver to tour the city alone. But, we recommend joining a day tour for a more convenient mode of transport, but more importantly, having a tour guide to tell the story of Hue to fully immerse yourself in the city.

7. Bana Hills

The face of the city — or should I say hands — is located in Bana Hills, just about 50 minutes away from Danang city centre. 

When you’re see anyone post about their trip to Danang, you’re most likely to see a giant pair of stone hands holding up a majestic bridge. This is one of the two highlights, and also an iconic feature of Danang — the Golden Bridge.

To reach to this popular attraction, you have to either drive to Bana Hills Cable Station, and take the cable car up. An admission ticket required for this attraction. You can purchase all these together, or separately on Klook .

Just the tickets to Bana Hills itself cost $47, which also includes the round-trip cable car and admission to all the attractions except for the Wax Museum and Rain Sheltering Tea House. Meanwhile, the full package, inclusive of lunch and shuttle bus from Da Nang, costs $73. We recommend paying the small additional cost for a more convenient and stress-free trip.

8. Nui Than Thai Hot Springs Park

Located just outside of Danang, Nui Than Tai Hot Springs Park is a must-visit destination for travelers looking to unwind and relax.

The park features a variety of natural hot springs that are said to have healing properties, as well as a range of spa treatments and wellness activities.

Visitors can soak in the hot springs and enjoy the beautiful natural scenery surrounding them, or indulge in a variety of spa treatments such as massages, facials, mud baths, and more.

The hot springs park is also perfect for thrill-seekers. Aside from its spa features, the park offers exciting attractions like mountainside wave pool, twisting swimming pool slides, Long Tien Cave, and more. The complimentary 9D to 12D movie experience is also a really popular attraction amongst tourists and locals.

9. Cham Island

If you’re looking for a good mix of natural beauty and adventure, head down to Cham Island.

Located off the coast of Danang, Cham Island is home to an array of marine life and coral reefs, making it an desirable spot for snorkeling and scuba diving.

The island’s attractions includes its pristine beaches, scenic hiking trails, and traditional fishing villages. Visitors can also admire a number of historical and cultural sites, such as the Hai Tang Pagoda and the Cham Island Marine Museum, which showcases the island’s unique ecology and history.

10. Dragon Bridge performance and market

The Dragon Bridge is also another iconic landmark of Danang.

As the name suggests, it’s designed in the shape of the dragon, with its steel arches spanning across an impressive distance of 666m. At 9pm on weekends, the Dragon Bridge spits fire and water, while the body changes colour.

Some tourists opt for the boat tour. But honestly, you can just watch it along Tran Hung Dao road.

After the 15-minute performance, head towards the Dragon Bridge Night Market, also known as Cho Dem Son Tra in Vietnamese. They are famous for seafood, but they also have a wide variety of Vietnamese street food. On top of that, visitors can also shop for quirky local handicrafts, and test their skills at carnival games.

11. Han Market

If you’re looking for a truly authentic shopping experience in Danang, Vietnam, then Han Market should be at the top of your list.

This bustling market has been a fixture in the city for over a century and offers a wide range of products, from traditional handicrafts to fresh produce, seafood, and clothing. The path goes along the river, and tourists will find a few slippery, narrow dirt paths branching out on the left towards the water, giving access to the larger swimming areas. Go further up, there are waterfalls that feed into the river at the point where it passes through the stone canyon. With so much shade, it is a beautiful spot; and whilst it could get a little crowded, it still is a great site for a refreshing dip. While climbing here, you will notice that there are a lot of signs painted on the rocks (of course, in Vietnamese) that warn you where you should not dare to climb.

14. Nam O Beach (Bãi Biển Nam O)

Not much famous as other Da Nang attractions, particularly beaches, Nam O Beach still should not be overlooked if you want to visit a wild, natural landscape without too much artificial renovation. On the borders of the Bay Of Da Nang, tourists will discover Nam O Beach, located about 17km northwest of Da Nang’s city center, north of Son Tra Peninsula. From here, you could get a great view of Monkey Mountain. According to the local people, the name “Nam O” means the south of O District (an old location). The Nam O village used to support itself by manufacturing firecrackers till the government imposed a ban on them in 1995. These days, this village makes fish sauce, also known in Vietnamese as “nước mắm”, and goi ca (gỏi cá), a type of Vietnamese sushi: raw, fresh fish fillets marinated in a special sauce and then coated in a spicy powder. The latter serves with fresh veggies in rice-paper rolls. Tourists will find it for sale on the beach during summer, or look out for it in the village.

When there is high tide, it resembles most of coastline running between Da Nang and Hoi An, yet at low tide, a large region of rock and sandy shoreline is revealed, creating the best view. It shelters a large number of rare fish as well as other marine species. People could ride a boat westwards on Cu De River from Nam O Beach, and generate an ecological tour to a ward of minority people in Hoa Bac (Hòa Bắc), Hoa Vang (Hòa Vang) district, Da Nang City.

With natural landscapes, gently sloping flat sand, and clean blue water, there are many facilities like restaurants, hotels, water-motors, and parachutes so as to meet the both residents and tourists’ demand of entertainment. From April to August, the sea here is clear, calm and packed with marine life, it makes for such a good secluded snorkeling spot. And, from November to February, also mean during winter, wind swells make it a great surf beach. The beach breaks favor lefts. Sometimes, it gets crowded here. However, surfing here means negotiating dangerous rips.

15. Luong Spring Eco Tourism (Khu Du Lịch Sinh Thái Suối Lương)

Situated in the Southern Hai Van Pass, Hoa Hiep Bac (Hòa Hiệp Bắc) Ward, Luong Spring Eco Tourism is far about 20km from Da Nang’s city center, to the Northwest. This place gives you the chance to sink in the green forest space.

With an area of about 6 hectares, Luong Spring Eco Tourism is an ideal site for unique architecture, which is converged by beautiful Vietnamese cultures. Under the chain-bridge, it is Luong Spring with turtle, elephant, which are sculptured by skillful handicrafts of Non Nuoc trade village. Having Co Tam Lake, market, traditional products and special cuisine like band duc (bánh đúc), Quang noodle, banh bot loc (bánh bột lọc), banh nam (bánh nầm), banh xeo (bánh xèo)…, Luong Spring Eco Tourism also has additional adventure programs, including climbing and exploring Hai Van Son (Hải Vân Sơn). In reality, there are two attractive programs for those who love adventure. Really, visiting this eco-tourism site, visitors will have an opportunity to explore various wonderful landscapes or sink into fresh water in order to enjoy great relaxing time.

16. Thanh Binh Beach (Bãi Biển Thanh Bình)

Just having 1 km in length, Thanh Binh beach is another one of many Da Nang attractions that tourists should not skip. Situated in Da Nang city, Thanh Binh Beach has an ideal length and is tranquil.

With the convenient climate for residents, if you come here, you could have chances to enjoy fresh air and play sports on the sand-bank. Though Da Nang owns a lot of beautiful beaches, you still should not omit Thanh Binh Beach as it is one of the most beautiful beaches.

17. Linh Ung Bai But Pagoda (Chùa Linh Ứng – Bãi Bụt)

Situated on the hill, Linh Ung Pagoda , one of religious Da Nang attractions, has the shape of turtle. It is reckoned not only as the initial processing of Vietnam Buddha in the 21 st century but also as the site gathering quintessence of the earth.

Face to the Eastern Sea, Linh Ung Pagoda is located on the right of Cham Islands, and on the left of Hai Van Mountain. In the past, Linh Ung Pagoda was the evidence for the combination between nation and belief. At the 21 st century, it marks the development of Vietnam Buddhism.

Reckoned as one of the biggest Da Nang’s pagodas in terms of both architecture and scale, Linh Ung-Bai But pagoda features with a perfect harmony between traditional and modern style. The major area is large and is the most solemn place.

Particularly, in Linh Ung- Bai But Pagoda, you will discover Guan Yin statue, which is considered as the highest statue in Vietnam. This statue is 67 meters in height, faces to the sea, and puts the back to the mountain. The above statue is Buddha hood statue that is 2 meters in height.

From here, tourists could contemplate the entire of Da Nang City, Son Tra peninsula and mountain. Additionally, from the distance, you can witness Ngu Hanh Son Mountain together with white sand-bank. This wonderful landscape creates a unique impression that tourists could not find in anywhere else.

To visit this pagoda, tourists have to drive along the road surrounding the My Khe coastal beach, one of the most beautiful Da Nang attractions. From the foot of Son Tra Peninsula, it takes about 10 km further to get to the entrance of the pagoda.

From afar, Linh Ung Pagoda could be easily recognized because of its location set on the highest point on Son Tra Peninsula.

Simply put, Linh Ung Bai But pagoda was established in the tourism relic of the city – Son Tra peninsula and now becomes a well-known, attractive tourism site in the beautiful coastal city of Da Nang. While planning your list of Da Nang attractions to visit, arrange Linh Ung Bai But pagoda at the top positions. If you have a chance to visit this pagoda, you will feel the harmony between the human and nature with the sincere belief in religion.

And, if Linh Ung Pagoda is the most scared and beautiful pagoda in Vietnam, Buddha beach might be the most beautiful beach on Son Tra Peninsula. It is really a must-see for those who love ecological tours.

In this guide, I am going to provide you will all of the information that you need to plan a successful trip to see Da Nang. I cover the best times to visit and the best ways to get there so that you can maximize what you can see and do on your trip.

I also outline all of the top things to see and do while you are there, as well as the best places to stay and eat. With the information in my Da Nang, Vietnam guide in hand, you can be confident that your trip to see one of Vietnam’s most incredible cities will be one that you remember for the rest of your life.

Before you start making any travel plans, you will want to make sure to take care of all of the passport, VISA, and immunization requirements for your trip.   In addition, you will want to make sure you have a clear understanding of what languages they speak in Vietnam so that you can plan any translation needs you might have.

You will also need to know what currency they use so that you can exchange currency before your trip if necessary. I have included some of this key information in my Da Nang, Vietnam guide below for you to review as you start to make your travel plans.

I also discuss how to protect yourself from tick and mosquito-borne illnesses when traveling. Even though Da Nang isn’t in a high-risk area for malaria, it is still good to protect yourself just in case.

For your trip to be a success, you need to make sure you pack the right clothing and gear for the weather and the activities you will be enjoying. Top Things to See and Do in Da Nang

Da Nang is a beautiful city with a wealth of cultural, entertainment, and culinary attractions for you to enjoy. So, you certainly won’t have trouble filling out the itinerary for your trip. For those visiting, I recommend spending at least a few days in the city to explore it properly. Ideally, one day for the Marble Mountains and the city’s other sights, a day for exploring Ba Na Hills, and a third day to see Hoi An and spend time at the beach.

If you are starting to plan your trip to Da Nang and would like some additional suggestions for your itinerary, then you are in luck. I have outlined the top 10 things to see and do in my Da Nang, Vietnam guide below.

Visit Ba Na Hills

If you have never visited Sun World at Ba Na Hills , imagine Disney World placed on the side of a jungle-clad mountain. I didn’t know quite what to expect when I first visited, but was blown away by the beautiful gardens, incredible entertainment venues, and stunning location of the park. I am guessing that many of you recognize the park’s Golden Bridge, which has been nicknamed the “Hands of God Bridge”. However, it is just one of many incredible sights to see in this amazing place.

If you plan on visiting Sun World during your stay in Da Nang, I would suggest dedicating a full day to exploring the park. Like Disney World, it is a big park with a lot of amazing things to see and do. I also suggest getting to the park early in the morning so that you can get some pictures of the Golden Bridge while it isn’t packed with people.

Check out the Dragon Bridge

The incredible Golden Bridge in Ba Na Hills isn’t the only amazing bridge in the city of Da Nang. In fact, there is a bridge located in the heart of the city that is every bit as impressive. The infamous Dragon Bridge is one of the most unique and beautiful bridges that you will find anywhere in the world.

A giant golden dragon runs the length of the bridge, which spans across the mighty Hàn River. What really makes this bridge impressive is that it breathes real fire and water. Check out the video I posted below to see this impressive bridge in action.

IMPORTANT NOTE:  If you want to see the dragon breathe fire and water, make sure you plan to be in Da Nang over the weekend. The dragon only breathes fire and water on Saturday and Sunday nights.

Stop at the Love Lock Bridge

There are several bridges like this throughout the world and it is always a fun way to responsibly leave your mark on a city. Visitors to the Love Lock Bridge in central Da Nang are encouraged to purchase a padlock and attach it to the railing of this beautiful little bridge. It’s a way for couples to symbolize their binding love for each other. The beautiful heart decorations really add to the special ambiance of this wonderful bridge.

Visit the Marble Mountains

One of the most popular attractions in Da Nang is the incredible Marble Mountains . Located roughly 20 minutes South of Da Nang towards Hoi An, the Marble Mountains consist of five distinct coastal mountains. Each of these mountains is named after a different element. They are Kim Son (metal), Thuy Son (water), Moc Son (wood), Tho Son (earth), and Hoa Son (fire).

Each of these mountains has a plethora of interesting caves and tunnels that you can hike through. Many of these caves have beautiful Buddhist temples built into them. The most popular of the Marble Mountains is Thuy Son. While the hike to the top involves 150 steep steps, there is also an elevator that you can pay to take to the top.

At the top of Thuy Son is the renowned “Road to Heaven”. This hike takes you through several caves before reaching a viewpoint that lets you see out over the city and the other Marble Mountain peaks. If you plan to visit, make sure you get there early to beat the crowds. You will also want to wear shoes with good traction as the marble rock inside the caves can be quite slippery.

Visit the Sơn Trà Mountain

Also known locally as “Monkey Mountain”, the Son Tra Mountain is a breathtaking national park that is located on the nearby Son Tra Peninsula. The mountain is popular because it is a great spot to get stunning views of the city of Da Nang. And if you’re lucky, you may also spot the rare red-faced monkey species that call the mountain park their home.

In addition to the great views and fun wildlife encounters, the Son Tra Mountain is also home to the tallest statue of the Goddess of Mercy and the stunning Linh Ung Pagoda. These two monuments alone are worth the trip to the top of Monkey Mountain. The great views and the monkeys are just icing on the cake.

Take a Day Trip to Historic Hội An

No visit to Da Nang is complete without taking a day trip to the nearby historical town of Hội An . Located just 45 minutes south of Da Nang, it will feel like you are going centuries back in time when you visit. It is a quaint, beautiful town that is pedestrian-friendly and full of colorful, historical buildings.

However, what really gives the town its wonderful ambiance is the colorful lanterns that are hung from every tree. When you visit, you can tour the old town or take a short boat ride down the river to soak in the experience. If you want to maximize your experience in Hoi An, plan to visit during the night market . The beautiful lanterns lighting up the town and the aroma of delicious food will make you never want to leave.

Visit the Han Market

When visiting Da Nang, it is essential to spend some time at one of the city’s incredible markets. In my opinion, one of the best is the amazing Han Market. In addition to great food in the area, you will also find everything from designer knockoffs to neat souvenirs to bring back home. Some of the neat things I saw during my visit were colorful oil lanterns (like you see in Hoi An), straw bags and purses, lots of silk shirts and dresses, and beautiful wood carvings.

Spend Some Time at My Khe Beach

The gorgeous My Khe Beach is a breathtaking stretch of coastline that reaches from the base of the Son Tra Peninsula all the way to the Marble Mountains. Its soft, white sand and calm waters make it a perfect beach for swimming and relaxing. The beach has plenty of lounge chairs available to rent and is just a few miles from the center of the city. This makes it the perfect spot to unwind after spending the day sightseeing around the city.

See the Nearby Mỹ Sơn Ruins

For travelers who like history, the nearby Mỹ Sơn Ruins are a site that you won’t want to miss. Located roughly an hour’s drive from Da Nang, Mỹ Sơn was the important religious and political capital of the Champa Kingdom between the 4th and 13th centuries. The Champa Kingdom practiced Indian Hinduism and the ruins at Mỹ Sơn are some of the best preserved from this period.

While they may not be as impressive as Angkor Wat, they are impressive to see in person and give you a glimpse into the history of the area. Not only that, but the setting for the ruins couldn’t be more beautiful. If you are interested in visiting, there are plenty of day tours that will take you there. See the Linh Ung Pagoda

Legend has it that, during the reign of King Minh Mang (of the Nguyen Dynasty), a statue of Buddha suddenly drifted out of nowhere and landed on the sand beaches of the Son Tra Peninsula. Believing it to be a good omen, the coastal fishermen built a shrine on the peninsula.

Today, the beautiful Linh Ung Pagoda is an important religious shrine and a popular tourist spot near the city of Da Nang. In addition to the beautiful pagoda, the stunning gardens are worth exploring. However, the highlight of the pagoda is undoubtedly the giant Lady Buddha. At 220 feet (67 meters) tall, it is the tallest in Vietnam and an incredible sight to behold.

As good as the views of the Lady Buddha are from the ground, there is a 17-floor staircase inside the statue that leads to the top. At each level, you will find 21 beautiful Buddha statues and an altar to pray. Visiting the Linh Ung Pagoda is a must-see spot for anyone traveling to Da Nang as it is one of the city’s most important religious and cultural spots.

How to Get to Da Nang, Vietnam

If you will be visiting Da Nang from outside of Vietnam, you will need to look for flights to Da Nang International Airport (DAD) . This is a large international airport that has direct flights to and from many other popular destinations in Southeast Asia. For an idea of flight time and the availability of direct flights, please refer to the chart I included in my Da Nang, Vietnam guide below.

IMPORTANT NOTE: An important aspect of your travel to Da Nang that you shouldn’t overlook is your tourist VISA. For many Western countries, including the United States, the visa-on-arrival process is not an option.

This means that you need to obtain your VISA before traveling. In fact, you won’t be allowed on your flight to Da Nang without it. So, please be sure to review my Vietnam Entrance Requirements guide that I linked at the top of this guide before booking your flights.

Travel Time from Other Cities in the Region

Best times to visit da nang, vietnam.

When you start to plan your trip to Da Nang, one of the most important factors to consider is when to visit. Vietnam, like most other destinations, has weather that is more enjoyable during certain times of the year. Essentially, there are two different seasons in Vietnam. Which of these seasons you choose to visit will have a big impact on what you can see and do.

In Vietnam, the monsoon season lasts from September until March. However, a vast majority of the rainfall the Da Nang area gets is from September through December. Meanwhile, the dry season in Vietnam typically stretches from April until August. However, the hottest months of the year in Da Nang happen to be during the summer months of June through August.

These are all factors that you will want to consider when you start to plan your trip to Da Nang. To assist you in determining the right time to plan your visit, I cover the type of weather you can expect throughout the year in my Da Nang, Vietnam guide below.

Average Temperature (°F)

Like most of Southeast Asia, the climate in Da Nang, Vietnam is a tropical one. While the temperatures can be very warm year-round, the hottest temperatures in Da Nang are from June through August. This coincides with the middle of the dry season in Vietnam. While the weather is dry, it can be blistering hot during this time of year with temperatures reaching the upper 90s (or 35 degrees Celcius).

Conversely, the months of November through January are typically the coolest in Da Nang. Although the temperatures may be cooler, the months of November and December are also two of the rainiest months of the year in Da Nang. The month of January can be a good month to target if you want to avoid the heat because the monsoon rains aren’t as heavy and the temperatures are still rather cool.

Average Precipitation (Inches)

While the monsoon season in Vietnam runs from September until March, the wettest months of the year in Da Nang are September through December. During these four months, the city of Da Nang usually sees around seventy-five percent of its annual rainfall. So, unless you plan on spending a lot of time indoors or getting drenched in the rain, you might want to avoid visiting during these months.

The dry season in Vietnam typically runs from April until August. During these months, there is a lot of sunshine and a lot less rain in Da Nang. For travelers who want to maximize their time at the beach or out exploring the Marble Mountains, the early dry season is a great time to visit. The weather is nice, but it isn’t yet scorching hot.

The Best Months to Visit Da Nang

In my opinion, the best time to visit Da Nang, Vietnam is between late January and early May. During this time of year, the weather is typically sunny with low humidity levels and cooler temperatures. This makes it the most comfortable time of year to be active outside.

The summer months of June through August are dry, but they are also typically very hot. The summer months are also when Da Nang typically sees the largest crowds, so you will likely have to deal with longer lines and higher accommodation prices if you visit during this time of year.

The worst time to visit Da Nang is during the monsoon season, which typically stretches from September until early January in Da Nang. Unless you don’t have a choice, I would steer clear of visiting during these months as the city can see torrential downpours that make getting around and doing things very difficult.

Where to Stay in Da Nang, Vietnam

One of the most important decisions you will need to make when planning your trip to Da Nang is where you will stay. When you travel, the accommodations you choose are oftentimes amongst the biggest expenditures for your trip.  So, not only do you need to be comfortable where you are staying, but you also need to be comfortable with how much you are paying to stay there.

Finding the right accommodations for your trip involves looking at the amenities, the location, and most importantly, the price.  If you are starting to plan your trip to Vietnam and want some hotel and hostel suggestions, I have included some great options at different price points in my Da Nang, Vietnam guide for you to review below.  As always, don’t be afraid to expand your search to room-sharing sites such as Airbnb or VRBO if you aren’t finding a hotel or hostel that meets your needs.

Where to Eat in Da Nang, Vietnam

When most people plan a trip, the primary focus is on how to get there, where to stay, and what to see and do.  What many travelers neglect to plan, is where to eat when you are there.  Granted, it is sometimes fun to be spontaneous when choosing a restaurant while traveling. It is also smart to get some recommendations when you arrive.

Top things to do in Hoi An

Get lost in the Old Town

Merchants from China, Japan and later Europe settled in Hoi An from the 15th to 19th centuries, creating a unique architectural fusion. Bring your camera as you tread the Japanese Bridge, Tan Ky ancestral house, and Phuc Kien Assembly Hall.
