Dropkick Murphys im Frühjahr 2023 mit hochkarätigen Gästen auf Tour in Deutschland

Ende September erscheint das neue Album der Dropkick Murphys, „ This Machine Still Kills Fascists “. Damit zitieren die Bostoner den Schlachtruf, den Woody Guthrie auf seiner Gitarre stehen hatte.

Tatsächlich haben die Dropkick Murphys erstmals in ihrer Karriere ein Akustik-Album aufgenommen, und zwar im Stil des linken Folk-Sängers. Woodys Tochter Nora Guthrie suchte meist bislang unveröffentlichte Texte ihres Vaters heraus, von denen sie fand, dass sie gut in unsere Zeit passen und überließ sie den Murphys , die wiederum die Musik dafür schrieben. Es ist ein Projekt, das sie schon lange in ihren Herzen bewegt hat. Die Beschäftigung mit Guthrie hat seinen guten Grund, wie Sänger und Bassist Ken Casey findet: „ Woody Guthrie is the original punk. He went against the grain, he fought a good fight, he spoke up, he sung of what he believes. His priority was not commercial success, his priority was his message and what he believed in. “ So entstand eine fantastische Hommage an einen großen Sänger und aufrechten Kämpfer und gleichzeitig ein starkes Statement für unsere Zeit. Natürlich werden Dropkick Murphys ein paar dieser Songs spielen, wenn sie im kommenden Jahr endlich wieder einmal nach Deutschland kommen, sicher aber auch einige ihrer alten Irish-Folk-Punk-Hymnen, für die sie nun schon über ein Vierteljahrhundert bekannt und berüchtigt sind, auf die Bühne bringen. Die Jungs sind unglaublich enthusiastisch, voller ansteckender Energie, größter Hingabe an ihre loyalen Fans und spielen sich die Seele aus dem Leib.

Und sie bringen gleich noch drei tolle Support-Acts mit: Pennywise , die kalifornischen Hardcore-Legenden, sind fast so lange zusammen wie die Dropkick Murphys und spielen entsprechend tight und laut zusammen, The Rumjacks aus Sydney spielen klassischen irischen Folk sehr rasant und rockig und Jesse Ahern verbindet Americana, Folk, Rock und Rockabilly mit deutlichen Texten und klaren Ansagen. Drei weitere Gründe, die Konzerte der Dropkick Murphys Anfang kommenden Jahres zu besuchen und mal wieder so richtig zu feiern.

Biografie - Dropkick Murphys

Live sind die Dropkick Murphys eine echte Naturgewalt. Die stimmungsvollen Lieder der irisch-amerikanischen Band präsentieren sich als bunter Mix aus Hardcore Punk, Irish Folk, Punkrock und Rock. Auf Tour bringen die Dropkick Murphys die Hallen zum Kochen – gute Laune garantiert!

Gegründet wird die Band 1996 im US-Bundesstaat Massachusetts, dem später auch einer ihrer Songs gewidmet wird. Von den drei Gründungsmitgliedern Mike McColgan (Gesang), Rick Barton (Gitarre) und Ken Casey (Gesang, Bass) ist nur noch Casey in der aktuellen Besetzung mit von der Partie. Sänger Mike McColgan steigt bereits 1998 aus der Band aus, seitdem ist Al Barr Frontmann und Sänger der Dropkick Murphys. James Lynch ersetzt ab 1999 Rick Barton an der Gitarre.

Heute sind die Dropkick Murphys ein Sextett, das live oft noch von einem Dudelsackspieler und weiteren Musikern begleitet wird. Ihr Sound ist abwechslungsreich und dynamisch. Fast schunkelnd erinnert er an eine Hardcore-Uptempo-Variante von Folk-Songs aus dem Irish Pub – tatsächlich haben fast alle Bandmitglieder auch irische Wurzeln. Neben Gesang, Gitarre, Schlagzeug und Bass spielen Instrumente wie Mandoline, Flöte, Akkordeon, Dudelsack oder Banjo immer wieder eine zentrale Rolle in den Songs der Band.

Bereits das erste Album im Jahr 1998 ist eine einzigartige Mischung aus Punk, Rock und Folk. In Boston, dem Zuhause der Band an der Ostküste der USA, leben viele Irish Americans – und die Traditionen ihrer Vorfahren sind hier lebendig. Das spiegelt sich im Lebensgefühl und auch in der Musik der Dropkick Murphys wider. Zentrale Begegnungsstätte ist und bleibt der Pub, wo es bei einem ordentlichen Bier oder Whiskey gleichermaßen gesellig und laut werden darf.

Aus einer Gruppe von Freunden mit Lust aufs Feiern und Musikmachen wird über die Jahre eine der bekanntesten Punk-Bands der USA. Traditionelle Folk-Songs werden als schnelle Punk-Versionen oder klassische Gassenhauer interpretiert und treffen den Nerv des Publikums. So wild und gefährlich das Treiben auf und vor der Bühne manchmal auch wirken mag, so ungefährlich und familiär ist der Umgang miteinander dann tatsächlich.

Die Dropkick Murphys bleiben seit jeher ihrem Stil treu und jede Tour bietet eine willkommene Gelegenheit für die Fans, die Songs vom neuen Longplayer so richtig abzufeiern. Als passionierte Live-Künstler leben die Bandmitglieder für das Spielen vor Publikum – dafür werden die Dropkick Murphys mit regelmäßig ausverkauften Tickets für ihre Konzerte belohnt.

203 bewertungen (ø 4,14), nach 80min war es einfach vorbei.

War 2008 das erste Mal beim Konzert, war der absolute Hammer. Leider nicht so dieses Mal: Al Barr ist leider immer noch ausgefallen was doch sehr stark zu spüren war. Nach 75min wurde i'm shipping up to Boston gespielt und sofort die Bühne fluchtartig verlassen. Die Menschen standen völlig verwirrt noch auf der Fläche. Immerhin war die Vorband gut.

Klasse Konzert

War mal wieder ein richtiges Spitzenkonzert von den Dropkick Murphys.Und die beiden Vorbads waren auch gut.

War ein geiles Konzert! Band, Essen, Getränke, Location alles Top.

The interrupters, woody guthrie, nicki minaj adds second dates, new shows to pink friday 2 world tour, trending on billboard.

The band again revisited Guthrie’s collection of unpublished songs for Okemah Rising , showcasing a more humorous side of Guthrie’s lyrical wit into adaptations that feel tailor-made for the working class anthems and stories of protest that often inhabit the Dropkick Murphys’ music. The lead single from Okemah Rising , “Bring It Home,” includes guest vocals from Jaime Wyatt , an up-and-coming Nashville singer-songwriter.

Tickets for all shows go on sale Friday (May 19) at 10 a.m. local time at www.dropkickmurphys.com and wearetheinterrupters.com .

Dropkick Murphys have announced a Fall 2023 US tour, featuring support from The Interrupters and Jesse Ahern.

While Dropkick Murphys’ recent releases have been a pair of acoustic albums featuring the lyrics of folk legend Woody Guthrie, the punk veterans will be going fully electric on this tour. The outing kicks off September 27th in Bangor, Maine, and runs through an October 29th gig in Huntington, West Virginia.

A Live Nation pre-sale begins Thursday (May 18th) at 10 a.m. local time via Ticketmaster using the code ICONIC , while general sales start on Friday (May 19th) at 10 a.m. local time. Fans can also check for deals or pick up tickets to sold-out shows via StubHub , where your purchase is 100% guaranteed through StubHub’s Fan Protect program.

Dropkick Murphys released This Machine Still Kills Fascists last year and and Okemah Rising this past Friday (May 12th). As mentioned, both LPs feature acoustic songs based on the words of Woody Guthrie.

I'm not a huge DKM fan, but I absolutely freaking loved their concert. Enthralled by the opening bands, and befriended all the audience members around me, as well as the venue employees. It was my first ever time getting X'd, being in a mosh pit, and crowd surfing. I danced on stage, met the band, and even did a handstand. Great energy, and good fans.

I saw the Murphys at WaMu Theatre in Seattle on August 16th. The Murphys were great and so much fun! The show started with “The Lonesome Boatman” followed by “The Boys Are Back”. Two high energy songs and the set never slowed down. I’ve seen Flogging Molly twice, and I was kind of expecting the Murphys to basically be like them, but other than both being Irish Punk, I was surprised by how different the two shows were. I will definitely be seeing the Murphys again next time they are here.

Rancid and Dropkick put on a hell of a show. The light rain through the Dropkick set in the middle of August was simply awesome and added to the fun. Rancid was the main draw for the Wife and I. Although we knew of Dropkick and their music seeing them live was incredible and gave us a whole different perspective of how fun and awesome they are. Will see them again without a doubt.

The encore...Dope!! Tim Timebomb starting solo with Folsom Prison Blues and then both bands joining in was sweet. The classic punk songs they sang together was the icing on the show. If you have a chance to catch them before their tour ends don't think twice about going. This one is a definite top 3 on my list.
