"JUST IN: The Associated Press is reporting that Tiger Woods will be only TOUR player to participate in direct negotiations with the Saudis. He will join Commissioner Jay Monahan, board chairman Joe Gorder, John W. Henry of Fenway Sports and Joe Ogilvie as the two sides look to strike a deal. @TWlegion."

Fans were disappointed with the Tour's decision and expressed their opinions in the comments section.

"This isn't good," commented a fan.

Another fan suggested that Tiger Woods should retire from golf and take up the responsibility of PGA Tour Commissioner.

"Tiger should quit the tour and become the commissioner of the PGAT. It's time to retire," wrote a fan.

Meanwhile, some fans were excited about Woods taking the talks further with PIF and believed the deal would be finalized.

"As long as Tiger is playing on the PGAT, he is the boss. His legacy is the PGAT, he will be the best to preserve it," commented another fan.

"Realistically, with Tiger there along with board chairman Joe Gorder, John W. Henry of Fenway Sports and Joe Ogilvie, Monahan must be on the trip just to carry luggage, order meals, & take notes. He's not needed for anything else, or there would already be a deal in place," wrote another fan.

PGA Tour Commissioner Jay Monahan opened up about the negotiation deal with the Public Investment Fund (PIF) in his recent interview. The deal has been in talks since it was announced in June 2023.

Rory McIlroy was one of the PGA Tour Players' Directors earlier. However, he resigned from the position in November 2023. It was reported that he would probably replace Webb Simpson on the board soon.

Nonetheless, McIlroy failed to earn the support of all the players' directors and will not return to the position. Currently, Tiger Woods , Jordan Spieth, Patrick Cantlay, Peter Malnati, Webb Simpson, and Adam Scott serve as the PGA Tour Players Directors, and out of all of them, only Woods will reportedly initiate further talks with PIF.

Monahan provided an update on the negotiation deal, saying they "are making progress" and also about McIlroy's return. He said (via Sportstar):

"Today's news is in no way a commentary on Rory's important perspective and influence. It's simply a matter of adherence to our governance process by which a tour player becomes a board member.

"Webb remaining in his position as a member of the policy board and PGA Tour Enterprises board through the end of his term provides the continuity needed at this vital time. We are making progress in our negotiations with the PIF," he added.

Meanwhile, next week, PGA Tour players and LIV golfers will compete at the PGA Championship 2024 . The Major will start on May 16 and the event's final will be held on May 19 at the Valhalla Golf Course.

Scheffler has been in ominous form, having claimed wins at the The Masters and The Players Championship, but the World No. 1 has opted out of this weekend's action as he awaits the birth of his first child. 

Leading the charge in his absence will be new favorite Rory McIlroy, who is returning to action after sitting out last week's Byron Nelson. 

Also in the hunt will be defending Wells Fargo champ Wyndham Clark. Denver-born Clark registered a four-stroke victory over second placed Xander Schauffele at the 2023 edition of this tournament, and comes into this weekend's event having clocked up three top-three finishes from his last five tournaments.

McIlroy, Woods disagree on golf’s future direction

Rory McIlroy has revealed details about a new PGA Tour subcommittee created to conduct direct talks with Saudi Arabia’s Public Investment Fund (PIF) about finalising a merger deal.

Players Tiger Woods, Adam Scott and McIlroy will be on a seven-person PGA Tour Policy Board transaction subcommittee created to sit across the table from the financial backers of rival series LIV Golf and hammer out terms to unite the Tours.

A framework agreement released last June has not been finalised, the board needing to approve such a move, and talks have stretched well beyond the initial deadline of last December.

“There’s a window of opportunity here,” McIlroy said. “I think that window closes ever so slightly every day that passes by, so I would say time is of the essence, absolutely.”

Others on the subcommittee would include PGA Tour commissioner Jay Monahan and Fenway Sports Group boss John Henry, who led an investment group of US sports team owners that created a $1.5-billion for-profit entity PGA Tour Enterprises.

McIlroy said that while he is not returning to the Tour policy board, he was brought into the subcommittee to provide knowledge and perspective.

“A different perspective, maybe more of an international perspective,” he said. “My insight is more the position of where the global game is and where it could go.”

McIlroy also has relationships on both sides of the table, including with PIF governor Yasir al-Rumayyan.

“I feel like I’ve got good relationships on both sides there and hopefully I can bring something to the table, try to provide some insight and value and see if we can get this thing done,” McIlroy said.

Woods, a 15-time Major winner, was among those said to disagree with McIlroy about the future direction of the sport. McIlroy said that there is no strain on their relationship even though they don’t totally agree on a path forward.

“Friends can have disagreements or not see eye to eye on things. I think that’s fine,” McIlroy said. “We had a really good talk last Friday for 45 minutes just about a lot of different things. No, there’s no strain there.

“I think we might see the future of golf a little bit differently, but I don’t think that should place any strain on a relationship or on a friendship.”

McIlroy said the subcommittee has already had meetings to plan the way forward in negotiations.

“I’ve already had calls with that group. I had a really good hour and a half Zoom with those guys on Sunday. We went through a 150-page doc about the future product model and everything,” McIlroy said.

“Yeah, I’m not on the board, but I’m in some way involved in that transaction committee. I don’t have a vote so I don’t have, I guess, a meaningful say in what happens in the future, but I feel like I can be helpful on that committee, and that was sort of a compromise for not getting a board seat.”

McIlroy said the big issue about him returning to the board in place of Webb Simpson, who was leaving but now is staying, was regarding improper process, not his viewpoints.

When noting PGA-LIV potential deal stumbling points on Wednesday, McIlroy cited American players possibly not wanting to have greater worldwide travel for tournaments compared to mostly US-based events now and what punishment might be required for those who jumped from the PGA Tour to LIV for rich deals while others declined them and stayed loyal to the established circuit.

Daniels testifies she doesn't "really understand" what Trump is charged with

"I don’t really understand. ... I'm just here to answer the question asked to me," she says. "There’s a lot of indictments," she says with a shrug.

Necheles asks Daniels if she knows anything about Trump's business records.

"I know nothing about his business records, no, why would I?" Daniels responds.

Daniels says she doesn't control what parts of her quotes end up in magazines

Throughout today's proceedings, Trump attorney Susan Necheles has brought up interviews Stormy Daniels gave about Trump with various publications — including Vogue, In Touch and Slate — over the years.

She has singled out apparent discrepancies in Daniels' recounting of events and pressed the witness about them repeatedly.

This just came up again, with Necheles challenging Daniels on what exactly she told Vogue in a 2018 interview.

Daniels says she doesn't control what parts of her quotes magazines ultimately include in an article based on her interviews.

"Sometimes I give too many details," she said, raising her eyebrows.

Daniels confirms she last spoke to Trump in 2007

The back-and-forth between Trump attorney Susan Necheles and Stormy Daniels continued with Necheles questioning if Daniels fabricated the story about her encounter with Trump. The exchange volleyed up until a late-morning court break.

Here’s the latest in Daniels’ testimony:

‘Trying to trick me:’ As one point in the exchange while being questioned about the $100,000 Daniels made from a documentary with NBC, Daniels told Necheles, "You're trying to trick me into saying something that's not entirely true."

A tweet fired up the exchange: Necheles asked Daniels if she would be instrumental in putting Donald Trump in jail. The defense referenced a tweet from Daniels, which read: "Exactly! Making me the best person to flush the orange turd down."

Daniels responded, "I don't see instrumental or jail anywhere in that; you're putting words in my mouth."

Drinking champagne and selling merchandise: Daniels testified she tweeted about Trump’s indictment. When people asked how they could support her, she said she shared a link to her store. The defense highlighted several items from Daniels' website for the jury, including a "Stormy Saint of Indictments" candle and #TeamStormy shirts. Daniels also confirmed she was drinking champagne to celebrate Trump's indictment.

Her story was challenged: Necheles challenged Daniels on her story, saying it "has changed a lot over the years," citing Daniels’ description of the floors in Trump’s hotel room. The Trump attorney also asked if Daniels fabricated the story about the encounter with Trump, which Daniels denied.

She wasn’t drugged or threatened : Daniels stood by her comments in a 2018 interview with Slate, maintaining she was not abused by Trump. "I was not physically threatened or drugged,” she said.

Florida Republican Sen. Rick Scott forcefully defended Donald Trump as he sits for another day in the New York hush money trial.

He accused prosecutors of using the trial to hurt Trump politically and downplaying the hush money payment at the center of the case. 

Asked if Trump requested Scott to accompany him to court today, the Florida senator said “No.” Asked if Scott’s decision to travel with Trump was connected to the gag order, Scott said he joined Trump because he is “fed up.” 

Trump allies Boris Epshteyn, Alina Habba and John Coale are also in court today with the former president.

Trump attorney questions Daniels about celebrity golf tournament

Defense attorney Susan Necheles is now asking about the celebrity golf tournament in Lake Tahoe where Stormy Daniels and Donald Trump met.

Necheles asks Daniels if Trump played well at the tournament. "I don't know what the scores were," she says.

"People were recognizing who he was?" Necheles asks.

"Yes, but they recognized me where I went that day, too," Daniels says with a shrug.

Trump attorney picks at Daniels' prior testimony regarding her strip club tour

Trump attorney Susan Necheles is returning to the "Make America Horny Again" strip club tour, reminding Stormy Daniels that she testified she hates the name, which is a play on Trump's campaign slogan “Make America Great Again."

Necheles asks whether Daniels ever posted about it on social media.

"Sometimes they made me retweet them," Daniels says.

The jury is seeing two posts about the tour from Daniels' instagram in 2018.

Earlier today, Daniels testified that she never posted about the tour.

"That's not my personal Instagram, that's my business Instagram," Daniels said of the post.
