  • Place&Transport: Hangzhou City Tour
  • Today's Activities: The West Lake(including boat cruise on the lake),Guo Garden,Leifeng Pagoda,China National Tea Museum
  • Accommodation: Sofitel Westlake Hangzhou
  • Meal: Breakfast,Lunch

Firstly, spend the peaceful and less-crowded morning time to visit the iconic– the picturesque West Lake for a leisure cruise to enjoy the tranquil lake views as well as the ancient pagodas, traditional arched bridges, tree-lined walkways, beautiful hills, green islands and lush gardens. There are many lakes named "West Lake" in China, but the "West Lake" here in Hangzhou is considered the most beautiful among all and listed as UNESCO World Cultural Heritage. It is surrounded by hills on its three sides, with an area of about 6.5 square kilometers.

West_Lake.jpg

Later, drive to the Guo Garden : Completed in 1861, this elegant garden villa was built as a private retreat for a wealthy Qing Dynasty silk merchant. Guo's Villa (Guo Zhuang, ??) is a fine example of Chinese aesthetics in which the manmade and natural blend in harmonious balance. The Villa opened to the public in 1991, after being restored. It faces Spring Dawn, by the Sudi Causeway which crosses the West Lake, and has a distant view of the serene Southern Screen Hill and the Baochu Pagoda. The villa has two sections (1) Living in Quietness, where the owner lived (2) the Sky in the Mirror garden, with a pond surrounded by roofed corridors (lang), bridges, rockwork, trees and flowers.

Next, drive to the Leifeng Pagoda . Leifeng Pagoda stands on Leifeng Peak of Sunset Hill to the south of West Lake, echoing the Baochu Pagoda in the north. It is the oldest colorful bronze pagoda in China. Standing on the top of the pagoda, tourists can appreciate the nearby Jingci Temple, enjoy the landscapes of West Lake, and even see the city of Hangzhou from a distance.Leifeng Pagoda is an octagonal five-storied wood-and-brick pagoda located on Sunset Hill south of West Lake. It’s the landmark of Hangzhou which is of great historical and cultural importance, and noted as one of Ten Scenes of West Lake,as well as has a deep connection with popular legends.

After lunch, move to the China National Tea Museum .China National Tea Museum is the only one in the country with the tea theme. It has no external walls but is enclosed by vegetation giving the unique impression that the halls and the tea plants inside depend upon each other. Additionally, one hundred distinctive Chinese characters relating to tea are enchased in the road to add color to your trip.

Drive you back to your hotel.

Day 3: Hangzhou City Tour

  • Today's Activities: Dragon Well Tea Plantation (Meijiawu Tea Village),Six Harmonies Pagoda,Bamboo lined path at Yunqi

After breakfast, move on to next site – Lingyin Temple ,founded in 328 AD by an Indian monk. There are 9 multistory buildings, 8 pavilions, 72 halls, and more than 1,300 dormitory rooms for residents that comprise the complex. The Hall of the Heavenly Kings, Grand Hall of the Great Sage and Hall of the Medicine Buddha are especially worth visiting for their grandeur and significance. In front of the main temple is Feilai Feng (Flying Peak) which is an interesting Buddhist grotto site etched with various images of Buddha.

Lingyin_Temple_1.jpg

Then, move to the Meijiawu Tea Plantation :Drogon Well Tea,also known as Longjing tea, is a variety of roasted green tea from Hangzhou, Zhejiang Province, China where it is produced mostly by hand and has been renowned for its high quality, earning the China Famous Tea title. Meijiawu Tea village is seated at the hinterland of West Lake Park and it boasts the most important Dragon tea production basis. Here you are in an original natural environment, just relax your feelings and enjoy the special tea culture, taste the fragrant tea while appreciating the beautiful village scenery. And our guide or Tea Farmer will show you how to pick the leaves, how to fry the leaves and how to drink the best tea in China.

Meijiawu.jpg

After lunch, the next stop is the Bamboo lined path at Yunqi :The forest is breathtaking. It really makes you realise how insignificant you are when you stand next to the bamboo trees towering way above you. You are surprised at how hard the bamboo actually was - no wonder Asian builders use it as scaffolding! The thing really liked about the bamboo forest is the light - even though the forest was dense, it still seemed really light and crisp, because of the fact the bamboo's all green (not like normal trees where the trunk is dark brown). It gives the forest a totally different vibe, hard to explain but it was just fascinating.

Continue your tour to visit Six Harmonies Pagoda , also known as Liuhe Pagoda. The ancient brick and stone structure built in the year 970 is found on the northern bank of the Qiantang River and is one of the most famous of its kind in all of China.

The wetlands offer a large variety of unique ecosystems and features such as thousands of ponds, networks of streams and river, deep reed beds home to animals and insects, and ecological areas that spawn the smallest creatures that fuel the wetland cycle of life. As an urban wetland, Xixi is a boon for those who wish to learn how humans, agriculture, and nature can all coexist.

Xixi_Wetland_Park_6.png

After lunch, we head back to Hangzhou city and you will have a special chance to learn about traditional Chinese and Eastern medicine, which varies very much from the Western theories and techniques. Hu Qingyu Hall Chinese Traditional Herbal Medicine Museum is a well run establishment under protection from the national government for its cultural influence and importance to Chinese traditional herbal medicine. On your tour of the exhibits, you can learn about the origins, development and evolution, and application of traditional Chinese medicine, as well as its role in the greater medical world.

Hu_1.jpg

Finally, your day will conclude with a tour at the Former Residence of Hu Xueyan , a prominent businessman who worked during the late 1800s to improve China. His house was built in the 11th year of the reign of Emperor Tongzhi of the Qing Dynasty. Tucked away from any main streets, the home is beautiful on its own and further accentuated by the gorgeous gardens that surround it.

Hangzhou Attractions & 4-day Itinerary , China

Hangzhou, is it really worth it?

Located less than 2 hours west of Shanghai, Hangzhou is the capital of Zhejiang Province and one of the seven ancient Chinese cities. Yes, it is less known abroad but well known among Chinese people especially for the amazing West Lake , the iconic landscape , the Fei Lai Feng and the famous Pagodas . As Hangzhou turned out to be my favourite Chinese city I happily decided to write this Hangzhou attractions and itinerary guide to let other non Chinese travellers about this place that is worth a visit!

Hangzhou west lake

We arrived very late at Hangzhou East Railway station and our hostel was located quite far from there, next to the West Lake. Most of the Chinese Railway Stations are well connected with the city centre either by metro/ bus and taxi so we easily reached the centre by metro but , unfortunately, the buses for the West Lake have their last route relatively early so we had to catch a taxi. We stepped into the hostel at midnight after a long trip that had started at Beijing few hours earlier.

Hangzhou wulin

Once more… the city is gorgeous!! We loved every minute there and we spent 6 days in total (and we wish we could have spent more!) while the original plan was only for 2! As we work on the road and we can not be out all day long one can manage to see pretty much the same as we did in 4 full days so I combined a 4-day itinerary for Hangzhou instead of a 6-day one. However, trust me, you won’t be bored even if you stay longer!

Hangzhou west lake by night

Day 1:  Leifeng Pagoda and surrounding area

The West Lake is quite big with plenty of things to see and do. If you rent a bike you can ride around the lake in 4 hours without any significant stop. However, the busses are very efficient and cheap (single ticket costs 2-3RMB= 30p). Pagoda is a highlight, along with the legends coming with it, and the entrance costs 40RMB. Regarding the lake, the best thing you can do is to walk (a lot!) as there are hidden gems in every corner of this water oasis. For example, we stumbled on the “Friendship Garden of Hangzhou International Sister Cities” with plants from cities from different sides of the world.

hangzhou 4 days tour

Day 2: West Lake Cultural square and Wulin Square

The city combines nature and modern life very successfully, unlikely most of the big Chinese cities that have started to loose their natural reserves. When on the peaceful lake you can’t guess that the centre of the city looks like any other cosmopolitan city full of skyscrapers and neon lights! The West Lake Cultural square is an extremely beautiful contemporary square that is consisted of a business centre, plenty of shopping malls (either high-end or high-street), art installations and leisure & entertainment places.

Hangzhou attractions

Within the squares you can find 3 important museums of Zhejiang province- this is one more reason why even 4 days are not enough! The commercial streets, surrounding the two connected squares, lead to the East side of the Lake. This walk can take hours or even days, especially if you fancy shopping! The malls are connected to each other overground and underground and they feel like endless labyrinths!

Hangzhou China

Day 3: Tea Museum and Fei Lai Feng

The tea museum deserves a special mention so I am going to write a post about it (China is the mother of the tea after all!) but for now just take into account that a minimum of 2 hours is necessary for a decent visit!

tea museum China

Fei Lai Feng, the holy mountain, is located roughly 45 minutes on foot from the tea museum but a taxi costs only 10-15RMB (£1.1-£1.4). We decided to walk instead but it didn’t really worth the pain as the path is uphill and (mainly) next to the busy road. However, we crossed by mistake a traditional, unspoiled village so at the end, the route was not that bad! The mountain is considered the religious place where you can see many Buddhist carvings (we were told that exist over 300!!). These stone sculptures can be found all over the hills of this area and we were surprised of how the monks managed to carve these in such harsh environment more than 1000 years ago!

Fei Lai Feng Hangzhou

An interesting fact is that at the beginning of the communist era, the sculptures were saved due to some clever students who covered most of the carvings with huge Mao’s posters! The entrance for the entire place is approximately 45RMB and there are few temples inside (most of them are included in the price). The complex is very interesting but unfortunately, the mountain has turned into very touristic and it can be extremely crowdy. We were lucky enough to visit it late afternoon during a quiet day so we even managed to reach the peak of the mountain (countless stairs! Be prepared!!) completely alone! If you ever travel to this part of Hangzhou try to schedule it for the off-peak season!

3 days in Hanghzou

Day 4: Hefang Neighbourhood, Food Market and a…Trendy Cafe

The city has to offer many activities, museums (such as the biggest Silk Museum of the World) , tea houses, trekking, few green tiny islands inside the lake (that can be reached by local -pricey!- boats), traditional buildings and bridges, interesting nightlife next to the lake and more; how will you spend your last day?

Hangzhou attractions and itinerary

In the morning and noon we wandered around the old town and the street food market at Hefang area. We observed some local traditions and we went for Chinese wine tasting! The area looks quite small on the map but the entire walk took approximately 5 hours as the neighbourhood has lots to reveal you if you are up for learning, observing, smelling, eating…

Hangzhou bridges

When you travel in China you will be impressed by the variety of the desserts available, even if they are not as sweet as the Western sugar-bombs! So, we always look for alternative/ awkward ones and in Hangzhou we have been lucky enough to have one of the most delicious afternoon «modern» tea ever! We tried to find a central café that we had spotted on the second day and we spent half an hour wandering around! Well-deserved the hassle, look at the photos! This strawberry bread Chinese dessert is a must-eat here!

How to get to Hangzhou

From Shanghai: The easiest way as there are heaps of scheduled trains every day, the high-speed ones need just a bit over 45 minutes! We chose one of the slowest train that took approximately 1 hour and 25 minutes. From Beijing: Less trains but still over 15 per day! The high-speed journey takes 4.30-6.30 hours when the slow can take anything between 14 hours to almost 1 day! From Hong Kong : Trains that take at least 7.5 hours

what to do Hangzhou

Where to stay in Hangzhou

I think the choice is pretty straight-forward. Do you want to be next to the nature and feel the “countryside” of a big Chinese city? So then, stay definitely around West Lake – especially at the quieter part (which is located completely opposite of the city centre).  On the other hand if you would rather to be where everything happens and occasionally to be able to enjoy the lake as well then book your accommodation either at/ around Wulin or Cultural square. Of course, should you can’t choose, just stay in between the squares and the lake (the lake-side road from the centre side has a lot of bus routes connecting the centre with different parts of the lake). The public transport is convenient so you won’t face any problems!

We left after 6 full days craving for staying more in Hangzhou – but we had plans! Conclusively, I can’t wait to come back here, this city truly stole my heart for the variety and the balance it seems to offer and my feeling is that you can experience the true Chinese vibe here! What do you believe, did I convey this to you? Would you be adding Hangzhou on your China itinerary?

We have never been to Hangzhou, so thank you for educating us. You certainly present it as an interesting destination.

How long did the walk up Fei Lai Feng take? I guess it helped to justify that sweet desert roll you had later in the day!

Thanks for sharing. Keep travel blogging. Adventure is better shared with friends!

It is an extremely interesting city indeed! I took two hours in total for the mountain and the sculptures only, visiting the temples is an extra 2-3 hours walk depending on how much one enjoys these things!

Thanks for reading, keep travelling!! ?

I am absolutely inspired to walk around West Lake now 🙂 I have been to various Chinese cities before but I’ve never made it to Hangzhou so far. But I can definitely see me walk around there and get lost in the craziness of China, the small stores and tea shops 🙂

I’d love to go to Hangzhou. China’s definitely on my bucket list but I hadn’t known of this city as of yet, so thanks.

Loved seeing what you got up to! You’ve certainly convinced me that it’s worth visiting. Great blog 🙂

I’ve never heard of Hangzhou, but it looks very beautiful. I love how the area seems to be able to meld nature and city together, I am sure there are so many things to do!

One of my bucket list item is to do more traveling.. you have definitely peeked my interest to make Hangzhou one of my places to see, although I think this would be a huge culture shock for my family.. Thank you for sharing

Been in Hangzhou last year, unfortunately just for one day. Really enjoyed the West Lake, but I wish to have 4 days like you to be able to enjoy the rest of the city as well!

I hope you will return as it is a fantastic city!

Hangzhou sounds like a real gem! I was particularly intrigued by the Tea Museum, Fei Lai Feng & the biggest Silk Museum in the world!! Did you go to it?! It definitely seems worth a visit, will need to add it to the list for if we ever make it back to China! Dagney

Unfortunately I missed the Silk Museum there but I visited the Chengdu one instead (much smaller though!). My favourite city in China, totally deserves a place on your list!

I have never heard of this place but this looks like an amazing one. The post is wonderful. Thanks for sharing!?

Wow, such a great itinerary, I loved the place by reading the post every folk would plan to add Hangzhou in their bucket list. Such gorgeous pictures too! Thanks for sharing with us!

Day 2 Hangzhou (B, L)

Hangzhou (B, L)

Sightseeing: Cruise on the West Lake, Lingyin Temple, Six Harmonies Pagoda, Meijiawu Village This morning, we will first visit to beautiful West Lake . We will take a cruise boat across the lake to see the 3 pagodas in the lake. The West Lake is the most famous tourist spot of Hangzhou. Graceful mountains surround it on three sides. It has a charming scenery and many cultural relics and historic sites. Then we will visit Lingyin Temple including the FeiLai Feng . The FeiLai Feng is situated in the east of Ling Yin Temple. Isolated from others, its stone quality is totally different from that of surrounding mountain groups. It is 167 meters high, on the peak there are many grotesque stones in the shapes of charming dragon, prostrate tiger, walking elephant and scared ape. The main hall of Lingyin Temple is about 34 meters (111 feet) tall - incredibly high for a one-storey building. In the center of the hall you’ll find the statue of Sakyamuni Buddha, which was carved from 24 pieces of camphor wood. The temple was named Lingyin Temple for its extremely beautiful environment which is serene and suitable for "Soul's Retreat". After having lunch at local restaurant, we will drive to the Six Harmonies Pagoda , highly erected next to Qiantang River and in the south of the West Lake. It is a perfect example of brick-and-wood structure built in ancient China and was built in 970 AD in the Northern Song dynasty (960-1127) to press down the evil of the river tidal bore in Qiantang River.

I did a solo trip to Huangshan mountain near Shanghai and I cannot recommend this company enough! Lisa from Visit Our China was very helpful and she offered a customized experience based on what I needed which included my private tour, helping to book accommodation and hotel pick up and drop off from the train station. I was a little nervous to travel alone here, but she took care of everything and answered every question I had. Would highly recommend!

Dear Nora,Thank you again for such excellent arrangement under the rushed condition. I enjoyed the tour with excellent English guide. Whenever I visit historical cities, I usually join guided tour. In the guided tour especially in European countries, the guider usually prepares a presentation with picture files or using notepad for audience' better understanding. Sometime oral explanation is not sufficient. Anyway i have not seen such presentations from other tour groups around today. Again, my guider today was excellent to give me overall and essential points in the history. Driving was also gentle. All the best for your business. Ki Seob

Dear Nora Thank you so much for having arranged great tour for us! The visits were well arranged and we wish if we had more time then we can visit more attractions. All guides are super! Knowledgeable and have good commands of English, good sense of humor. We like them all!Transportations were ok but can not give them max points due to their ages! Drivers were all nice. Hotels in Beijing, Xi’an and Nanjing are great! Great location, well equipped, nice room and good breakfast. Hotel in Luoyang is an old style, simple breakfast, but we understand that they are in the same situation as the city. Near the Peony Hotel, I saw a new small hotel near by but I did not come in to check. I am thinking it may be better to use new small hotel than big old ones.In Shanghai, we are very disappointed about hotel. Room small, dirty, poor facilities. Breakfast is poor. Location is so so, not so convenience. I think you should find another option for your future bookings in Shanghai. Meals: the guide helped us to choose dishes and we really enjoyed. Except in Beijing, because of timing inconvenience due to traffic, we ask the guide to arrange the near by restaurants for quick food, all others were great. In General, we are all happy with your services. Hope will have the chance to come back with you for more tours in China and surely, I will recommend you and your company for my tour company friends! Nora, once again, thank you for your great work! My best regards Bich Ha

  • E3224IKlucyl 0 contributions 5.0 of 5 bubbles Private tour experience that an introvert like me could appreciate Bonnie reached out to me to plan the itinerary within 24 hours of receiving my online inquiry, and answered all my questions. When I had a change of plans, she helped me arrange the new pickup location and time right away. I was greeted by May at the station in a warm and hospitable manner. She helped me out with check-in at my hotel before we officially started the tour, and I greatly appreciated her reliability. We then spent the afternoon going to the iconic tourist spots around West Lake. I was fortunate to experience Hangzhou in ideal spring weather, and greatly enjoyed the flower viewing at Guo Garden. I am personally very camera-shy, but May happily encouraged and offered to take many photos for me, so I now have newfound memories to look back on and share with my friends and family. May also offered me snacks before we headed to West Lake when she found out I hadn’t had breakfast, applied bug repellent ointment for me at the bamboo forest, answered my questions about other tourist spots and food recommendations, and looked out for me in so many other ways. I truly appreciated having her be the one to show me around during my first time in Hangzhou. I would also like to give a shout-out to our driver, whose name I didn’t catch. He was very kind, allowed me to charge my phone in his car, and took us to our destinations safely. I truly appreciated his hard work (driving us around all day and waiting on us to finish touring at each stop must’ve been so tiring!!). I was able to make some small talk with him with my limited Chinese; I wish I’d thanked him even more than I did. All in all, I learned some new fun facts, took many pretty pictures, tasted soothing green tea, and made a new friend. It was a great tour, thank you! Read more Written April 24, 2024

  • fionamac6 0 contributions 5.0 of 5 bubbles What an amazing, all day experience! I booked this tour as a way to explore the local area as a first time visitor at the end of a business trip when I had a few days free. This was my first experience of a private tour and what can I say - it was amazing!! The organisation and booking was so straightforward and easy to do, great communication throughout and I instantly felt like I was in great hands! My guide, Sherry, was simply amazing! From the moment I met her she was warm, friendly, and made me feel so comfortable and safe in this place so far from home. Sherry shared loads of interesting facts and information about our starting point, Hangzhou, and continued to amaze and impress me throughout the course of the day! By the end of the tour I was exhausted! But felt like I had learnt loads, and also felt like I had a new friend in my life. The water village is absolutely worth a visit, for anyone wanting to go, and I cannot recommend booking with this team - from the organisers behind the scenes, to the amazing guide and even the wonderful, friendly driver! This is absolutely worth the money and I just want to thank the team once again for making my visit so memorable! Read more Written March 26, 2024
  • E4464TWjs 0 contributions 4.0 of 5 bubbles Bespoke Tour in Hangzhou/Shaoxing with Lulu We are a family of 5 (with a 2-year-old toddler and 2 grandparents) who did a 7-day bespoke tour of Hangzhou and Shaoxing with Lulu in March 2024. At our request, the tour was largely conducted in Mandarin with the occasional English. We found Lulu to be very energetic and enthusiastic. She was always eager to share stories with us, whether historical, mythical or just about everyday life in Hangzhou. She was also patient in her explanations (and in repeating them at times), with a suitable amount of detail for the average traveller. She is clearly passionate about taking care of her guests. For example, we were looking to see if there was a particular shop near our hotel at the end of the day. While we returned to our room to leave our belongings, she looked up the shop online, called to find out where they were located, and went ahead to check how to get there, before coming back to give us directions - all this after the tour had formally ended for the day. Lulu's knowledge of the areas we were visiting was also very good. She had very good recommendations for restaurants, both in terms of the quality of the food and the restaurant's proximity to the sites we were visiting for the day. Where certain restaurants were very busy and queues were long, Lulu also had nearby alternative recommendations in the bag. Where she was not too sure, she would often run ahead to scout out locations, whether they be toilets, restaurants to see if the queues were long, or even just pick-up points or places to sit and rest. Lastly, Lulu was always prompt in replies to texts, and punctual. However, we have to say that we were persuaded to do a one-day trip to Shaoxing (including Lanting) instead of two days, and ultimately felt that it was rushed. Also, we were brought to Meijiawu for what we believed was to be a tea-tasting session. In the end, while we were given a glass of tea, we felt that the focus of the visit was not tea, but rather some pill supplements that we were being asked to buy. That said, these were but minor gripes in comparison with what was otherwise a very enjoyable week of visiting. It would be amiss of us not to mention our driver, who was very helpful when loading and unloading our belongings from the large and very clean car - he even cleared our rubbish from time to time. The car rides were smooth and very comfortable, and the toddler seat that was provided as part of our tour was both good and clean. Our driver was also proactive. Without us having to say anything, he learnt how to fold/unfold our stroller by watching us do it once, and we would regularly find it folded and stored, or unfolded and ready for use, as the case may be. He was pleasant and nice to chat with, and was concerned for our safety when boarding or getting off the vehicle. For example, he would stand next to us while we got our toddler in/out of the car and watch the traffic. This gave us a sense of security, especially on the occasions when our child decided not to be cooperative and we had to struggle with her. Lastly, as with Lulu, our driver was punctual. • juliaQ8613KW 0 contributions 5.0 of 5 bubbles I couldn't have hoped for a better guide than Autumn From the moment Sam promptly replied to my first enquiry email within about half an hour, and Bonnie then followed up in a highly professional way regarding planning and payment, I knew I was in safe hands. My eventual guide, Autumn, proved to be the icing on the cake: I could not have hoped for a better guide or a nicer and more knowledgeable companion for the two days I had with her in Shanghai a couple of weeks ago, doing an in-depth and very personal tour. Autumn spoke excellent English, was extremely flexible as to where to go, accommodating my requests which took us a little off the beaten track in some cases (including to the little known Shanghai Xian Dong Museum of Buddhist Art, out "in the country" as she put it). If the tour had a theme it would be "Temples and Tea" - we visited the Confucian Temple )closed due to continuing restoration), wandered the streets of the French Concession, saw the Jade Buddha Temple, we happily ate "local", and also visited the Hongqiao Pearl Market and the said Buddhist Art Museum. All day one! Autumn seemed to have friends wherever we went, which only added to the depth of my experience. We were driven around everywhere by her delightful driver, which really reduced the stress of being a solo traveller trying to work out public transport in an unknown city. On Day Two we started out looking at a fragment of the Shanghai city wall on the way to the Daoist Temple, visited the allleys of Tianzifang for a little shopping and to see a local vegetable market, had lunch in a buzzing underground shopping centre (Autumn carefully finding somewhere that allowed me to eat gluten-free), went to the Jing'An Temple and finished our day at the tea market, being given a tea tasting by a tea producer. It was heaven! So, a big thank you to Autumn and her kind driver, and to Sam and Bonnie - and wishing you all much success in the future. I can highly recommend you all and will be happy to do so. Itinerary Day by Day

Nihao! Welcome to Shanghai , China’s most internationalized and vibrant city! Shanghai's long-term fusion of Eastern and Western cultures has contributed to Shanghai's unique culture. Upon your arrival at the airport/train station in Shanghai, the tour guide and driver will meet and greet you at the exit, and then escort you to the well-selected hotel in downtown Shanghai. The rest of the day is free on your own so you can have a good rest for the jet lag or explore by yourself around your hotel.

Arrival Ideas:

Travelers can go to Shanghai easily by air or high speed train. There are two airports - Shanghai Pudong International Airport and Shanghai Hongqiao International Airport operating numerous international and domestic airlines. Travelers can go to Shanghai by air from most cities in China, like Beijing, Xian, Guangzhou, Chengdu, Guilin, Kunming, Lijiang, Lhasa, and more. In addition, travelers can take high speed train to Shanghai from Beijing (4.5-6 hours), Xian (6-7.5 hours), Huangshan (2.5-3 hours), Guangzhou (7-8.5 hours), Suzhou (0.5 hours), Hangzhou (about 45 mins), Wuhan (3.5-4.5 hours), etc.

Dining

Today, you can explore the Highlights of Shanghai for a whole day . From Shanghai Old Town to Shanghai Pu Dong New Area, you will experience the perfect blend of the East and West in this “ Paris of the East ” by visiting traditional Chinese gardens, Taoist Temples, local snack streets, modern skyscrapers, and exotic architecture.

First, you can head to Yu Garden (Yuyuan Garden , Closed on Mondays), the most celebrated classical Chinese garden hidden in the bustling downtown area of Shanghai. On the way to Yu Garden, you will pass by the iconic Jiuqu Bridge (九曲桥Nine-Bend Bridge/Zigzag Causeway) and the Huxin Pavilion (湖心亭Mid-lake Pavilion, built in the Qing Dynasty, 1616-1912). According to Chinese Fengshui, the zigzag causeway is designed to thwart spirits, who can only journey in straight lines. Known as the " First Teahouse on the Sea " (over 160 years old), the Huxin Pavilion is a perfect spot to enjoy a distant view of Shanghai's Lujiazui Skyline (陆家嘴三件套). In Yuyuan Garden, you can admire numerous architectures from the Ming and Qing Dynasties, as well as the collections of ancient calligraphy, paintings, and furniture. Yu Garden was built in 1559 (460 years ago) by Pan Yunduan (潘允端) for his father to enjoy his retired life. You will see the winding paths and changing scenery, the plants and ponds, the brick carvings, stone carvings, clay sculptures, and wood carvings in the garden, all designed with great craftsmanship. You can explore various beautifully crafted dragons hidden in the Yu Garden, count them, and learn more about the Chinese dragon totem from your guide. Don't forget to seek out the 21-meter-tall ginkgo tree that is said to have been planted by Pan Yunduan himself 400 years ago .

Or, you can either visit Shanghai City God Temple (城隍庙) located near Yu Garden. Chenghuangmiao (City God Temple) is a Taoist temple dedicated to the City God (Cheng Huang God) . "Cheng城" refers to the city walls, while "Huang隍" refers to the dried-up moats. The City God is the protective deity of the city and is often a renowned hero or figure from local history. Strolling inside Chenghuangmiao, you will see a large abacus (算盘) that is quite intriguing. It bears the Chinese characters " not calculated by humans " (不由人算) . Remember to ask your tour guide to explain the profound Chinese philosophy behind it. If you wish to meet your Mr. Right, make sure to visit the Temple of the Matchmaker (Yuelao Temple月老殿) and pay respects to the God of Love and Marriage (Chinese Cupid月老) . If you desire wealth, visit the Temple of Wealth (财神殿) and pay homage to the God of Wealth (财神), Marshal Zhao Gongming (赵公明), who oversees fair trade and the distribution of wealth in the mortal realm. As a coastal city, Shanghai City God Temple also enshrines the Goddess Mazu (天后妈祖), who protects seafaring vessels.

However the phrase " go to Chenghuangmiao " used by Shanghai locals does not solely refer to the Taoist temple itself but rather encompasses the entire area of Yuyuan Bazaar. Yuyuan Bazaar (Chenghuangmiao Market) outside Yu Garden is a vibrant Shanghai Old Street where you can try Shanghai’s local snacks such as Xiaolongbao (Nanxiang Steamed Bun Restaurant小笼包), Pan-Fried Pork Buns (Fried Dumplings生煎包), Soup Dumplings (灌汤包), and Won-ton Soup (上海馄饨). You can also buy some traditional Chinese handicrafts and artworks for souvenirs here.

1. Please note that Yuyuan Garden is closed on Mondays. A visit to the Daoist City God Temple (located near Yuyuan Garden) is also wonderful. We are always flexible and want to ensure you with the best experience.

2. Please feel free to contact our travel consultant in advance to discuss and make arrangements, as many museums and sites require advance ticket bookings. Thank you for your understanding.

After lunch, you can take a hike from Nanjing Road to the Bund , which is less than a 2 km walk. Nanjing Road Pedestrian Street is the perfect place to experience century-old Chinese time-honored shops , such as Wuliangcai Optical (吴良材眼镜店), founded in 1806; Hope Brother's & Co (亨达利钟表店), established in 1874; Duoyunxuan (朵云轩), the most famous calligraphy and painting store in Shanghai, founded in 1900; and Wang Kai Photograph(王开照相馆), the largest deluxe photography studio in Shanghai since 1923. You can also visit Shanghai Shimao Festival City (上海世茂广场) and explore the first flagship LEGO store in Asia. If you're interested, you can experience the famous curved escalator at the New World Daimaru Department Store (新世纪大丸百货), explore the Huawei Global Flagship Store (华为旗舰店), enjoy afternoon tea on the rooftop terrace of Shanghai Edition Hotel (上海艾迪逊酒店) while overlooking the Bund, and marvel at the century-old Gothic architecture of the Peace Hotel (和平饭店), where Einstein and Chaplin once stayed. Nanjing Road is also a paradise for food lovers, so don't miss a visit to Shanghai's first food store and Shen Dacheng Dim Sum Shop.

Then, move to the Bund , the Top 1 Place to Visit on the Shanghai Bucket List. The Bund is the best spot to view the Oriental Pearl TV Tower ( a symbol of Shanghai ) and the three skyscrapers of Lujiazui that are famed as the " Kitchen Three Piece Set " (陆家嘴三件套) by locals due to their shapes: a syringe ( Jin Mao Tower, 421m ), bottle opener ( Shanghai World Financial Center, 493m ), and eggbeater ( Shanghai Tower, 546m) , respectively. Known as “ An Exhibition of International Buildings ”, the Bund is a collection of 52 buildings representing various international architectural styles. Since 1844 (Qing Dynasty), foreign banks, trading companies, clubs, and newspapers have gathered here, showcasing the former glory of the " Wall Street of the Far East " (远东华尔街). You will visit the Zhapu Road Bridge (乍浦路桥) to capture the " Shanghai Version of Seine River Scenery "(上海版塞纳河风光), followed by Waibaidu Bridge (外白渡桥Garden Bridge of Shanghai), where you can admire the Russian Consulate building (俄罗斯领事馆green roof) that combines Baroque and German Renaissance styles. At Huangpu Park (黄埔公园), established in 1886, you can pay tribute to the Monument to the People's Heroes (人民英雄纪念塔) and discover more about the history of the Bund. After passing the Peace Hotel, you won't miss the iconic Clock Tower at the Shanghai Customs House (江海关大楼), the HSBC Building (汇丰银行), the Golden Bull Plaza (金牛广场sculpture of a golden bull), and the Gutzlaff Signal Tower (外滩天文台), all of which are classic attractions of the Bund .

After the Bund tour , you can board a public ferry to cross the Huangpu River and take a walk to the highest building in China - the Shanghai Tower . It features a dramatic 120-degree twist from its base to its peak. Take the world's fastest lifts (traveling at 64km/h) to the " Top of Shanghai Observatory " located on the 118th floor, 546 meters above ground level. Here, you'll have the unparalleled opportunity to enjoy a 360-degree panoramic view of modern Shanghai and also look down upon the Oriental Pearl TV Tower (a cultural landmark of Shanghai ) , Jin Mao Tower (a traditional Chinese pagoda-like structure with a modern style) and the Shanghai World Financial Center (the third tallest building in China and the fifth tallest in the world). From Shanghai Tower, you can also get a bird's eye view of the Bund and the Nanjing Road you had just visited before from another side of the Huangpu River.

Yuyuan Garden

This morning, your guide will meet you in the hotel lobby and escort you to Shanghai high speed train station for your bullet train to Hangzhou (about 1 hour, 158km). And, welcome to Hangzhou, the “Heaven on Earth” and a cultural city with a history of over 5,000 years.

You will first visit the China National Tea Museum (China Tea Museum), the only national-level thematic museum in China dedicated to tea and tea culture. It houses a collection of 3,865 items, including 156 precious artifacts, 170 specimens of tea leaves from ancient to modern times, and 349 sets of foreign tea utensils. The museum is divided into two distinct branches: Shuangfeng Branch and Longjing Branch (located 3km apart). Shuangfeng Branch is closer to West Lake and is a beautiful Jiangnan-style garden. Besides a statue of Lu Yu (茶圣陆羽), the Sage of Tea, and a special exhibition on West Lake Longjing Tea , here, you can learn about Chinese Tea Culture and the life cycle of tea plants, appreciate various exquisite tea utensils, gain insights into ancient tea-drinking and tea-making methods. Longjing Branch is built on a hillside, with tea trees, tea pavilions, and ponds interspersed in between. From the tea altar at the mountaintop, you can enjoy panoramic views of West Lake and the surrounding tea mountains. In Longjing Branch, you can learn about Global Tea Culture , how tea spread from China to the world, China's intangible cultural heritage of traditional tea-making techniques, China's historic tea ceremonies, and related customs, such as the Tang Dynasty's Tea Boiling and the Song Dynasty's Dian Cha (点茶foam art on the teacup). ( Note: You can choose the branch you would like to visit based on your interests and available time.)

Next, move to Meijiawu Tea Culture Village , the biggest Longjing Tea producing spot. It is said that a trip to Hangzhou won’t be complete without visiting Meijiawu Tea Village. It has hosted many national leaders, government heads, and friendly visitors worldwide since the 1950s. During the Qingming Festival (early spring), tea-picking women are busy harvesting tea leaves, creating the scenic of " Meijiawu Early Spring ", one of the 10 New Views of West Lake. It is said that more than 30,000 hand-picked fresh tea buds are needed to produce 1 kg of high-quality Longjing Tea (Dragon Well Tea) . Meijiawu has a history of tea cultivation for over 600 years . As you stroll along its ancient streets lined with Ming and Qing dynasty buildings, you will encounter numerous tea workshops, hear the soothing sounds of gurgling streams, and be enveloped by the delightful fragrance of tea. You can also visit Lu Zhenghao Tea Plantation (卢正浩茶庄) to see the old tea roasting process and learn traditional tea-making techniques, experiencing the charm of intangible cultural heritage. Lu Zhenghao (卢正浩) is well-known in the Hangzhou tea industry. Premier Zhou Enlai visited Meijiawu 5 times (1957-1963), meeting Lu Zhenghao each time, showing great concern and guidance for tea production and development. Meijiawu's West Lake Longjing tea gained fame thanks to Lu Zhenghao and became a national gift tea, renowned worldwide. You can also visit the Premier Zhou Memorial Hall (周总理纪念室, Closed on Mondays) to learn more. Mejiawu is also a great place for lunch with authentic Hangzhou cuisine and to enjoy a cup of Longjing Tea (Green Tea), one of the Top 10 Famous Teas in China.

After lunch, head to Lingyin Temple (灵隐寺), situated at the west end of West Lake and inside the Feilai Peak Scenic Area (飞来峰景区). As one of the "Top 10 Zen Buddhist Temples in China", Lingyin Temple is considered a sanctuary for the soul and attracts countless pilgrims. Founded in 328 AD by an Indian monk named Hui Li (慧理), it is the oldest and most famous temple in Hangzhou, with a history of over 1,700 years. Directly facing Lingyin Temple is a hill with a peculiar name, Peak Flying from Afar (飞来峰, Feilai Peak). Composed of limestone, it stands out distinctively from the surrounding mountains. Legend has it that when Hui Li saw this peak, he exclaimed, "It's a part of Holy Mount Grahrakuta . Why has it flown here?" Hence, it acquired the name "Peak Flying from Afar." He also believed that Feilai Peak was a hidden dwelling of immortals. That is why he built a temple facing the peak and named it "Lingyin", which means "a hidden dwelling of immortals". While exploring Lingyin Temple, you will come across two stone pagodas (built in 960 AD) located on the east and west sides in front of the Great Hall of the Mahavira. These pagodas are the oldest relics of the temple . As you hike through the temple, you will hear stories and learn about the history behind the towering trees and numerous Buddhist grottoes. Amidst the impressive landscape and Buddhist culture, you will encounter the largest statue of the Buddha Sakyamuni in the lotus position , and believers lighting incense as they offer their prayers. It is believed that the most effective prayer at Lingyin Temple is for seeking romantic relationships . Also, for Chinese people, Lingyin Temple is the place where the famous Jigong (济公) became a monk and practiced. Jigong is usually known as a legendary mad monk who helped people with a magic fan, although he could have been a real person named Li Xiuyuan (李修缘, 1130 or 1148-1209) from the Southern Song Dynasty. You can learn more interesting stories about the crazy monk at the Hall of Jigong (济公殿) .

After that, you will discover the picturesque West Lake (UNESCO World Heritage Site) like a local. The West Lake (西湖) is large, and you can choose to hike, ride a bike (free for the first hour), board a boat (self-pay), or take a sightseeing bus (self-pay) to explore it. As the city symbol of Hangzhou , it is adorned with temples, museums, islands, villas, tea houses, memorial halls, pools, arched bridges, pagodas, monasteries, and casual walkways lined with classic willow trees. The culture-laden West Lake overwhelms every visitor with its beauty. For Chinese people, West Lake is the most romantic place, inspired by poems written by Su Dongpo (苏东坡, The Gay Genius), the classic legend of " The White Snake " (白蛇传), and the tragic romance of " The Butterfly Lovers " (梁祝), whose fame rivals that of Shakespeare's "Romeo and Juliet."

You can choose to walk along the Su Causeway (苏堤, 2km long; built by Su Dongpo) while enjoying the famous poetry that aptly captures the beauty of West Lake, written by Su Dongpo (苏轼): "The shimmering ripples delight the eye on sunny days. The dim hills present a rare view in a rainy haze. West Lake compares to Xi Zi at her best. She is gorgeous, richly clothed or plainly dressed." Su Dongpo, a Chinese calligrapher, essayist, gastronomer, pharmacologist, poet, politician, romanticist, and travel writer during the Song dynasty, has deep connections with Hangzhou. Having served as an official in Hangzhou twice , he governed West Lake, constructed the Su Causeway, and prioritized the well-being of the people. He was affectionately known as the " Old Mayor " and greatly admired by the people. You can learn more by visiting the Su Dongpo Memorial Hall (苏东坡纪念馆, 550m away from Leifeng Pagoda).

If you are interested in " The Butterfly Lovers " (梁祝/Liang Shanbo and Zhu Yingtai/Liang Zhu), an intangible cultural heritage of China with a history of 1,700 years, you can visit the Wan Song Ancient Academy (万松书院, 940m from the Long Bridge), where Liang Shanbo and Zhu Yingtai once studied together for three years. Today, it is a famous spot for blind dates in Hangzhou. You can also visit the Long Bridge (长桥, 900m away from Leifeng Pagoda), where they bid farewell with deep affection. Nowadays, it is a popular location for couples to take photos of Leifeng Pagoda in the Sunset (雷峰夕照). Speaking of Leifeng Pagoda , you can't miss the touching legend of "The White Snake" (白蛇传) - "After cultivating for 1700 years, the White Snake transformed into the beautiful Bai Niangzi (白娘子). She descended to the mortal realm to search for her past-life benefactor, Xu Xian (许仙). They met on the Broken Bridge (断桥), parted ways at the Leifeng Pagoda, and thus unfolded the most extraordinary love story in Chinese mythological history. There are two autonomous escalators that transport visitors to the base of Leifeng Pagoda (self-pay). The pagoda itself offers bird's-eye views of West Lake, the entire city of Hangzhou, and Jingci Temple (净慈寺), which is famous for being one of the "Ten Scenes of the West Lake" (西湖十景) - "Evening Bell Ringing at the Nanping Hill"(南屏晚钟).

If you are a loyal fan of " Dream of the Red Chamber " (红楼梦), you must visit the filming location of the 1987 TV series "Dream of the Red Chamber", the Curved Yard and Lotus Pool in Summer (曲院风荷), to reminisce about the scene of Lin Daiyu and Jia Bao Yu secretly reading "The Romance of West Chamber" (西厢记). Renowned Redology researcher Tu Mo Re believes that the original author of "Dream of the Red Chamber" was Hangzhou poet Hong Sheng. You can also take a boat tour (self-pay) to the Three Ponds Mirroring the Moon (三潭印月) to capture the photo seen on the Chinese One Yuan Note (一元人民币风景). There are too many places and stories for you to uncover around West Lake, such as Bai Causeway (白堤), named after the famous Tang dynasty poet Bai Juyi to commemorate him, the "Old Mayor" of Hangzhou. Throughout China, no other lake has attracted so many poets, scholars, painters, sculptors, calligraphers, and even emperors for such an extended period. Just enjoy your time there.

After the West Lake Tour , you can move to stroll through Qinghefang Street (Hefang Street清河坊), located in the old Hangzhou city, which will bring you back to the scenes of prosperity at the foot of the old imperial city. As the markets at the back of the imperial court of the Southern Song Dynasty (1127-1279), Hefang Street (河坊街) has not only witnessed the thousand years of changes in Hangzhou but also retained the cultural memories of the old generations. If you are interested in Chinese Herbal Medicine Culture you can visit the landmark of the Hefang Street - Hu Qing Yu Tang (胡庆余堂 intangible cultural heritage), a over 100-year-old traditional Chinese medicine pharmacy and Traditional Chinese Medicine Museum (self-pay胡庆余堂中药博物馆). Founded by Hu Xueyan (胡雪岩) in 1874, the wealthiest merchant in the late Qing Dynasty and the Medicine King of Jiangnan, the museum is an excellent spot to appreciate the Qing Dynasty architectural style with a front shop and rear workshop, watch pharmacists make a prescription, try a cup of healthy herbal tea. Today, the " Golden Shovel and Silver Pot " (金铲银锅) displayed in the museum have become national-level cultural relics and are acclaimed as " Chinese National Treasures ". Wandering along the street you can try to find a unique architecture made of bronze (江南铜屋) while passing all kinds of shops and sampling all kinds of local snacks. Also, if time permits you can also visit the Former Residence of Hu Xueyan (胡雪岩故居) to learn more about Hu Xueyan and his brand of Hu Qing Yu Tang.

China Tea Museum Longjing Branch

This morning, your guide and driver will pick you up at your hotel and take you to Wuzhen Water Town ( West Scenic Area 西栅) to explore the town that combines both ancient Jiangnan culture and modern fashion atmosphere . You will find out why it is famed as “Once came to Wuzhen, then never leave” and fall into a romantic atmosphere that hails old China.

Wuzhen Water Town is located on the west side of the famous Beijing Hangzhou Grand Canal (京杭大运河, World Heritage). It is the junction of Shanghai (130km), Hangzhou (90km), and Suzhou (70km), with a long history of more than 6,000 years. As one of the Top 6 Water Towns in China's Jiangnan region (along with Zhouzhuang, Tongli, Luzhi, Xitang, and Nanxun), Wuzhen is known as " the Land of Fish and Rice "(鱼米之乡) and the most cultural water town. Wuzhen exemplifies the typical characteristics of Jiangnan Water Towns (江南水乡), preserving the original appearance and layout of an ancient town during the Ming and Qing Dynasties. Characterized by burbling brooks, arched bridges, ancient docks, pavilions, and corridors, slab-stone paved alleys, waterside tea houses, its residents still enjoy a cherished waterside lifestyle, special folk customs, and Chinese Painting-like Jiangnan (水墨江南) landscape.

You can choose to explore Wuzhen by boat, sightseeing car, or on foot. Our Wuzhen trip will focus on the West Scenic Area of Wuzhen (Xizha Area). The Xizha area (西栅景区) is composed of 12 small islands, interconnected by over 70 small bridges , witnessing the prosperity of Wuzhen (a bonus for Chinese stone bridge fans). When visiting Wuzhen Water Town , it is a must to take a ride on a traditional rowboat (乌镇摇橹船) and experience the authentic Jiangnan charm . You can choose to board a boat at the pier (25mins; self-pay) and follow the Xishi River (西市河) towards the west, heading to the highest structure in Wuzhen, the Bailian Pagoda ( White Lotus Pagoda 白莲塔). From there, you can enjoy a panoramic view of the Grand Canal (京杭大运河) and the picturesque scenery of Wuzhen (vice verse, walk to Bailian Pagoda, then take the boat back). Sitting on the rowboat, you will have the best angle to experience the immersive atmosphere of a Chinese ink painting (中国水墨画). Along the way, you can admire the white-walled, black-tiled architecture and exquisite woodwork of many buildings from the Ming and Qing dynasties. Capture the reflections of ancient bridges on the water and the bustling scenes on the bridges, listen to the guide's explanations of the unique water pavilions (水阁) of riverside residences, and learn about the daily life of <"中国最后的枕水人家") who live by the water. The boat will pass through Wuzhen's highest bridge Dingsheng Bridge (定升桥) and the most unique Qiaoli Bridge (桥里桥), arriving at the disembarkation pier.

Once you disembark, you can take a leisurely stroll along the stone-paved streets of the ancient town, exploring the intriguing historical sites hidden within. Learn about the preserved customs and cultural heritage of the town, participate in intangible cultural heritage experiences, browse through a variety of shops, and savor local delicacies such as Jiaxing zongzi (嘉兴粽子sticky rice dumplings), Dingsheng cake (定胜糕better eat it at the Dingsheng Bridge), and shredded radish pancake (萝卜丝饼).

As a classic water town of Jiangnan style, Wuzhen is a poetic and romantic place for photography. You can rent a Hanfu from Xiqingtang (囍庆堂), showcasing traditional Chinese wedding culture, and take beautiful photos at the cloth drying area of Indigo Fabric Workshop (草木本色染坊), which offers intangible cultural heritage experiences in tie-dyeing using herbal dyes. If you are single and would like to pray for love and marriage, you can visit Yue Lao Temple (月老庙) to worship the Chinese version of Cupid. Sure, if you would like to send a postcard to your loved one, you cannot miss a stop at the hundred-year-old Wuzhen Post Office (乌镇邮局), where you can experience the slow-paced postal service of the past when there was no internet or cellphones. Here, let me share a poem called " Congqianman " (从前慢) written by Muxin (木心, 1927-2011), a contemporary Chinese painter, writer, and poet. It includes the famous lines, "In the past, carriages were slow, and letters traveled far. One lifetime was only enough to love one person". To explore the artistic works of Muxin, you can visit the Mu Xin Art Museum (木心美术馆,self-pay), which is closed on Mondays. If you want to know why Wuzhen is renowned as “ the Home of Silk " (丝绸之府), just visit the Yida Silk Mill (益大丝号, since 1875) for the silk culture of the Jiangnan region. Additionally, the Three-Inch Golden Lotus Museum (三寸金莲博物馆) is a place where you can uncover the distorted historical process of ancient Chinese women pursuing beauty through the harmful practice of foot binding. If you wish to explore the library in Wuzhen, a visit to the Zhaoming Academy (昭明书院) is recommended. Don't miss the Yichang Blacksmith Workshop (亦昌冶坊), where cast iron pots are handmade, known as the "Number One Pot in the World." Lastly, the Xuchang Soy Sauce Workshop (叙昌酱园) allows you to delve into the process of making Chinese doubanjiang (豆瓣酱fermented chili bean paste), soy sauce, and pickled vegetables.

After the tour, it is time to end your 4 Days Shanghai Hangzhou Tour . Your guide will escort you to the airport/train station for your flight or high-speed train to your next destination.

Latest Hangzhou Tours Reviews from Our Customers

Wayne C

I'm a Singaporean traveller who booked a private solo tour. I chanced upon AOT after I googled and decided to travel last min. My planner from AOT named Rita was very patient towards all my request and changes, she is knowledgeable and provided excellent advice for my 8 days trip arrangement from Shanghai, Zhangjiajie N Chongqing. Although there were very minor hiccups just like any overseas holiday, it was still a well planned trip.

I would like thank all my tour guides and drivers (师父) for looking after me so well. Special mention to Zhangjiajie Tour Guide named Ms Rita Wang, she looks after her client with her sincerest heart into the smallest details such as eating habits and my lifestyle. (Example: Turning A/C on knowing we Singaporeans can't live without A/C in car & also I don't even have to look at menu to order food becos she knows what I want to eat) Also thank you 杨师父 who tagged team with Rita, he is a very good skilled safe driver and knows how look after me during long haul journey drive inter cities.

I would strongly reccomended anyone who wants to travel to look for Rita or her colleagues from Asia Odyssey Travel.

Lastly, thank you to all whom I've crossed path during my trip. I'm grateful to all people in China for the warm hospitality. 感恩大家的招待和爱。

Jin Hee Im Sets New Scoring Record at Wilshire

Bunched leaderboard means a hollywood ending in store at wilshire.

hangzhou 4 days tour

On a Moving Day morning at the JM Eagle LA Championship presented by Plastpro, the conditions were ripe for someone to take advantage – and try to make a dent in Grace Kim’s overnight lead.

Rookie Jin Hee Im took full advantage, as her 8-under 63 set the new tournament scoring record at Wilshire Country Club.

Kim, who had a four-shot lead through 36 holes, tied the previous scoring record when she shot a 7-under 64 in the opening round.

Im said she put herself in good spots with her irons – she missed just two greens in the third round – and had a solid day with her putter. She made nine birdies and had just a lone bogey, on the par-4 6th.

She shot a 6-under 30 coming in.

“The first two days I started really bad,” Im admitted. “But today I started good and played good.”

Im finished 8th last week at The Chevron Championship, her first top 10 on the LPGA Tour, and said she had a lot of confidence from that result.

“When I started the LPGA this year, the start of a few tournaments weren’t going what I thought – but now it’s going all right,” she said. “I don’t know when it is, but I feel like I can win a tournament pretty soon.”

While Im’s name is going to be etched in the Wilshire record books, she very nearly had company. Nasa Hataoka, a 2022 winner in Los Angeles, was also 8-under through 17 holes but bogeyed the par-3 18th to finish with a 7-under 64.

Hataoka birdied five of her first 10 holes and also holed out for eagle on the par-5 15th with a wedge. Her 64 was her lowest round of the season so far.

“I really like this golf course and I have to focus on my game. More birdies tomorrow,” Hataoka said. “I hit it good the last couple of days, but I couldn’t make my birdie chances. My stroke was better today. I just focused on my putting stroke, and it worked good.”

Patty Tavatanakit, a winner already this season, was 7-under through 13 holes but couldn’t quite steer her way into the house. She finished with a 4-under 67. The UCLA alum said she’s got plenty of friends in the area still and has lots of experience teeing it up at Wilshire.

“This golf course every single time I'm here it just really tells me that I can never get ahead of myself. Just got to pace myself out there and just be really present,” Tavatanakit said. “ I found some feels with hitting and just felt really solid for the whole day. Overall, I'm really happy with how I played today.”

Kim will tee it up in the final group Saturday at Wilshire alongside Maja Stark, looking for her first LPGA Tour title in about a year. And while Tavatanakit, Hataoka, and Im will have plenty of ground to make up in the final round, they proved Saturday that low scores could be had.

Korn Ferry Tour

Jordan Spieth attends Korn Ferry Tour event, reflects on early days as pro

Change Text Size

Jordan Spieth attended a Korn Ferry Tour event as a fan Wednesday. Yes, that Jordan Spieth.

Spieth made an appearance at the Veritex Bank Championship in his home Dallas-Fort Worth metroplex, visiting with friends who competed in the pro-am at Texas Rangers Golf Club. Spieth’s buddies played nine holes with Matt McCarty and nine holes with Jamie Lovemark (Spieth’s close friend Richie Sapp, a groomsman in Spieth’s wedding, is the event’s tournament director).

Spieth, a three-time major champion, spent a brief period on the Korn Ferry Tour in his formative years, and he’s keenly aware of the game’s fine line between glory and the grind. Wednesday offered a chance to remember those days, and to reminisce on the vast depth in professional golf.

“These guys, they’re grinding,” Spieth said Wednesday. “They’re sometimes playing seven, eight weeks in a row … and all of a sudden they go on a run and they’re Scotite Scheffler. It’s where it all comes from.”

(This depth was further exemplified Thursday, when 24-year-old Frankie Capan III carded an opening-round 58 at Texas Rangers Golf Club, which wasn’t even the Korn Ferry Tour’s low round of the year. Cristobal Del Solar shot an opening-round 57 at the Astara Golf Championship presented by Mastercard in February.)

Spieth’s magical 2013 season included back-to-back top-10 finishes at the Korn Ferry Tour's The Panama Championship (T7) and Astara Golf Championship presented by Mastercard (T4). He then faced a decision point: continue on the Korn Ferry Tour, or head to the PGA TOUR’s Puerto Rico Open, into which he had received a sponsor exemption.

Spieth headed to Puerto Rico and finished second to earn a spot in the Valspar Championship, where he finished seventh to earn Special Temporary Membership on TOUR. The rest was history – he won the John Deere Classic later that summer to activate full membership, represented the United States in the Presidents Cup that fall and proceeded to global golf superstardom.

That year included a stint on the Korn Ferry Tour, which resonates to this day. (So much so, that he intended to track the competition as it unfolded at Texas Rangers GC.)

“Since I’m off this week, it will be fun (after) seeing this place, meeting the couple guys, looking this week on the app and seeing how they’re doing," Spieth said Wednesday. "Hearing a couple of the stories … Matt (McCarty), I know he was close last year and he’s doing pretty well this year so far, kind of right on the bubble.”

The top 30 on the season-ending Korn Ferry Tour Points List will earn 2025 PGA TOUR membership, joining Spieth at the game’s highest level. He’ll know what it took to get there.

hangzhou 4 days tour

DETROIT (AP) — The NFL draft tour has not had a stop quite like the one in Detroit .

“We watched 32 amazing players join the NFL family in front of a record 275,000 people ,” Commissioner Roger Goodell told fans who flooded downtown Detroit on Friday for a second straight day. “Guess what? Another 230,000 are already here tonight.

“So Detroit, you’re within 100,000 of breaking the all-time record.”

Nashville drew 600,000 fans over the three days of the NFL draft in 2019 to set the mark the Motor City will shoot to surpass on Saturday. Nashville had the previous first- and second-round records, drawing 200,000 fans each day.

Michigan coach Sherrone Moore, assistant coaches and players he has returning from last season’s national championship-winning team were introduced on stage by Goodell, and the crowd sang the school’s fight song before the second round kicked off.

“It’s super special to be here,” Wolverines tight end Colston Loveland said. “Detroit showed out, for sure.

“There’s lot of bodies here.”

Streets, restaurants, bars and hotels were filled for a second straight day as fans of the 32 teams gathered for a party that showed no signs of slowing down.

Larry Kordosky traveled from Arizona to attend his second NFL draft and left no doubt who his favorite team is, wearing red and blue pants with Bills logos and a Buffalo jersey under black shoulder pads.

“You couldn’t ask for a better crowd or host,” Kordosky said, standing in a rare open space in the middle of Campus Martius Park. “I had never been to Detroit. I love it. It’s an amazing city.

“I went to the draft in Las Vegas two years ago, but it was nothing like this. There are fans everywhere, especially Lions fans.”

Lions season-ticket holder Reiner Calderero of Warren, Michigan, and Christopher Guiao of Sterling Heights were in the first row up against a barricade just beyond the covered theater area where the picks were announced.

They were easy to pick out in the crowd.

The men wore the same Honolulu blue and silver masks they put on for home games at nearby Ford Field.

Guiao said the NFL draft experience exceeded his high expectations.

“All day, both days, the whole area has been packed,” he said. “Hopefully, the world sees what we see. Detroit is a beautiful city with warm people.”

In addition to the intangible benefits of showing the city in a good light for visitors and 50-plus million people watching on TVs, phones and tablets, the economic impact was expected to exceed $160 million and that’s when local organizers were expecting 400,000 fans to attend the three-day event.

More than 20 teams have inquired about hosting a future NFL draft and Green Bay will be on the clock after the seventh round concludes Saturday.

The Motor City, which was once one of the nation’s largest and most powerful cities, has bounced back from filing for bankruptcy in 2013 and has made the most of an opportunity to shine.

“A special thank you to everybody here who came from across Michigan and across the United States to help Detroit set new attendance records for the NFL draft,” Detroit Mayor Mike Duggan , joined by Hall of Famer Barry Sanders, said on stage before announcing the Lions had drafted Missouri cornerback Ennis Rakestraw Jr. in the second round.

The NFL draft is giving Detroit a chance to show the world how far it has come, according to Dan Gilbert, whose real-estate company, Bedrock, was among the private and public entities to land the league’s annual event.

“The city, it’s got an energy to it,” Gilbert said in an interview with The Associated Press. “I think that’s one of the reasons we’re able to convince the NFL to do the draft out here. They could feel the energy as we took them on tours here.”
