1. Go to Facebook.com and log in to your account.

Using whatever web browser you prefer to use on your computer, open Facebook.com . Then, enter your email address or phone number and password to sign in to your Facebook account.

Now you should be at a page with a ton of words, letters, and numbers, which are the codes that make up your profile page. To most people, this page will be super confusing. To easily find the part of the code you need to use to see who looks at your profile most, hold down the “Ctrl” key on your keyboard and then press the “F” key.

What this does is allow you to search for certain text on the current web page. As such, a text box will appear on your screen. In the text box, type in “InitialChatFriendsList” – but don’t include the quotation marks. Beside this code, you’ll be given a list of number codes that represent your friends’ profiles.

Now that you have the list of profile number codes, it’s time to find out who these codes represent. To do so, copy one of the numbers in the list to your clipboard. You can do this by clicking and dragging your mouse cursor across one of the numbers, then pressing the “Ctrl” and “C” keys on your keyboard together.

Then, click in your browser’s address bar and press the “Ctrl” and “P” keys on your keyboard together to paste the number into the Facebook URL. You need the regular www.facebook.com URL, followed by a “/” and then the code. For example, if the profile ID number was 12345, you’d enter the URL facebook.com/12345.

If someone that you’re not friends with on Facebook sees your story, they will be listed under “Other viewers”.

Unfortunately, you won’t be able to know who your “Other viewers” are because Facebook does not allow it.

Hence, it’s recommended that you set your stories to “Friends” so that only your Facebook friends can see them.

Anyone who has ever seen the infamous “…” that symbolizes someone writing a comment pop up on a Facebook post, only to have no comment materialize, understands how frustrating it is not to know who’s looking at your profile.

We post on Facebook to stay close to our friends and family, but unless someone likes or comments on your posts, there’s no way to knowing who actually sees what you post. Or is there? While Facebook’s algorithm ensures your reach is limited—by showing your posts to a small circle of your friends who have engaged with your posts previously—there’s no shortage of third-party apps out there that claim to answer the question “ who visited my Facebook profile.”

People naturally want to know who’s secretly crushing on their Facebook page. So we tested the best method for supposedly finding who’s looking at your Facebook page and checked out some third-party apps to find out what’s really possible. Here’s what we learned, and how to try it yourself.

Who visited my Facebook profile?

According to the hundreds of tutorials online, including some from well-known and respected sites, here’s how you see if someone is looking at your Facebook.

1. Go to your personal Facebook page and view source

To see your actual page, click your name next to the Home link at the top of the Facebook page.

Once on your Facebook homepage, right-click the background of the page and select View Source.

2. Activate webpage search

A website’s source code will look like gibberish to most users, making it hard to find whatever you’re looking for. Activate your browser’s search function by pressing Ctrl + F on your PC or Cmd + F on your Mac. In the search bar type InitialChatFriendsList .

3. Look up the user ID numbers under InitialChatFriendsList

Under InitialChatFriendsList, you will see a long list of numbers, which represent people’s profile IDs. They look like this “XXXXXXXXXX-2.” That big block of red in the image? That’s where you’ll find your friend’s identification numbers. Just copy and paste each number into your address bar, minus the zero, like this, “ www.facebook.com/XXXXXXXXXX .” While you have to enter each number manually, this list will supposedly show you who visits your profile the most.

Does it work?

We individually looked up the first 25 people in our InitialChatFriendsList and directly asked them, “Hey, when was the last time you looked at my page?”

The first result on my InitialChatFriendsList hadn’t visited my page in two weeks. The second hadn’t looked in months. The third had visited it that very day. The 14th had visited it three weeks earlier. The 25th couldn’t remember ever looking at my page at all since we became friends. What did all 25 of these people have in common? We all interact with one another during the week.

We like each other’s posts and talk over Messenger. We do interact, so yes, in one regard InitialChatFriendsList does probably tell you who you’re interacting with on Facebook, but not in a way that can be tracked via any real useful metrics. You can’t tell who is stalking your Facebook but not interacting with you via this method.

Of course, there are third-party apps that could care less about Facebook’s terms of service. Surely one of them works, right?

While there are plenty of third-party apps that claim to be able to track who is visiting your Facebook, they’re all lying. Facebook’s privacy rules don’t allow apps to look at who is visiting your page. Which is good. In fact, Facebook has gone out of its way to nuke apps that have used holes in their security to mine people’s data, even if it’s for a seemingly innocent use.

Take the service Breakup Notifier , for example. In 2011, this app worked by scanning your friend’s relationship statuses and alerting you if they’re relationship status changed. According to an ABC News report , the app’s website was visited 700,000 times in the first 36 hours after it was launched, and the app was downloaded by 40,000 people.

Within two days, Facebook shut the app down , citing privacy concerns and a significant number of API calls the app was making. By the time Facebook killed Breakup Notifier, it had amassed 3,673,484 users in its database. While Facebook briefly allowed the service back online, it has since been removed for good.

The response to Breakup Notifier helps illustrate why it’s probably a bad idea to be able to see who is looking at our pages. People naturally want to know who likes us and thinks about us, but there needs to be a checks and balances on social media, and one of those checks is context. When you see that someone likes a post you made on Facebook, you know that they like a specific idea. But what context is there to knowing the last 10 people who visited your page? Does it mean someone is crushing on you or did they just accidentally click on your name while scrolling?

Lastly, many third-party extensions or applications claim to reveal who has viewed your Facebook profile, but that is also not true. Here are the nitty-gritty details on all those scenarios.

Seeing Who Viewed Your Facebook Profile using View Page Source

Technically speaking, the Initial Chat Friends List is the order of the displayed list of friends in your chat bar on the right side of your Facebook page. Many factors determine the order, but it is officially an ordered list of users that Facebook thinks you are most likely to chat with based on many algorithms. This feature is already available on your profile, so there is no need to hide it, even in the Page Source.

First off, you won’t see anyone on the list that is NOT your friend. Second, the Buddy List is just people whom you communicated with recently in one way or another.

First off, this scenario is against Facebook policies, even if someone states that Facebook worked out an agreement with Apple.

Second, This option got reported to have been available in April of 2020, but there have never been any more words. Some reports state that it was available on April 1st, 2020. If you think someone's blocked you on Facebook, search for them or look at previous messages: in most cases, someone who has blocked you won't appear at all.
Ask mutual friends to check if the contact's account has been deleted or deactivated.
You can't invite anyone who has blocked or unfriended you to events, nor tag them in posts.

Facebook doesn't show you when someone has blocked you, but there are numerous ways to tell if someone has blocked your account on the platform. Use these tips to find out if someone has blocked you on Facebook.

Ask a Mutual Friend to Check if Their Profile Is Still Up

This is the most straightforward way to find out if someone has blocked you on Facebook since you need to determine whether the person in question has deactivated their Facebook account or deleted it, rather than blocking you.

These things can look a lot alike, so it's easy to think someone who has gotten rid of their Facebook profile altogether has blocked you.

So how can you tell if someone has blocked you, rather than deactivated their account? Ask a mutual friend. If you and the person you're worried has blocked you have a friend in common, ask that mutual contact to quietly check whether this person's profile is still online.

If their profile is gone, then they probably haven't blocked you: they've gotten rid of Facebook. If their account is still active, they could have blocked you. There are further ways to tell, so we'll come back to these options.

Here's what else you can do to check if you've been blocked on Facebook.

Use a Mutual Friend's Profile to Find Out Who Blocked You on Facebook

Head to the profile of someone you and the person who has potentially blocked you both know. You'll be able to see a brief list of their friends; click on See All . It should tell you how many contacts you have in common.

You can scroll through their contacts or just type into the field which reads "Search Friends".

If you can see their name and profile picture, you can let out a sigh of relief, as this signifies that they haven't blocked you. If you can't see them, there's another potential answer for their absence. They might have deactivated their whole account.

Try to Tag Someone Who Might've Blocked You

Normally, if you want to tag a friend in a meme or post, you simply write their name and click on the relevant link to their profile. They'll be notified and will see it the next time they log in. But if you've been blocked by that person, you won't be able to tag them in any posts.

You also need to determine whether you've been blocked or simply unfriended. Whether you can tag someone who has unfriended you on Facebook depends on the other person's privacy settings. It also depends on the settings of a group you might be a part of: if the other person isn't in the private group, you can't tag them anyway.

Use Facebook Search to Check Who Has Blocked You

Search for your friend on Facebook. Simply sign in, and you'll see the search box at the top-left of the page. Similarly, if you're using the Facebook app to learn who blocked you, the search function is at the top of your feed.

A list of profiles and pages will come up. Toggle the results by clicking on People . If you've been blocked, the profile of that person won't show up in this setting. However, if you're searching All , there's a chance you will see them, even in the event that they have blocked you, but you probably won't be able to click on it.

You'll be able to partially view the profile (depending on their privacy settings) if they've simply unfriended you. If they've deleted their Facebook account, however, they won't appear at all.

When searching, you might still see photos of the person in question, but any tags will revert to dead links if they have blocked your account.

Check Previous Facebook Messages

This method relies on you having communicated with the person before, which doesn't help when it comes to relative strangers. Try to remember anything this contact has written on your profile or, if you've stopped others posting on your Facebook timeline , a mutual friend's profile. This could be a birthday message, a festive greeting, or anything incidental.

In most cases, if you've been blocked, those messages disappear completely. Even their likes might disappear. In rarer cases, the messages will still be there, but the person's profile image won't show up.

Look on Facebook Messenger for Someone Who Might've Blocked You

If you've previously spoken to this person using Facebook Messenger, this is another indicator you can check.

You should do this via the Facebook website because the app still sometimes shows blocked accounts.

Go to the Messenger section and click on See All in Messenger in the drop-down menu. Access the conversation you had with the contact. If you've been blocked, you won't be able to click on their name to look at their profile either.

You won't be able to send them a message either: instead of the text box, there will be a message saying, "This person is not contactable on Messenger."

Note that, in most cases, the person's name won't appear at all if they've deleted their account, but deletion is different from deactivation. If they've deleted their account, their Messenger thread will read "Facebook User". Be aware that they could still be using Messenger without being on Facebook ; nonetheless, if you can contact them here, at least you're still friends.

Try to Invite Them to Events

People create events on Facebook to coordinate meet-ups, including birthday parties, dinners, and Christmas celebrations. But if you've been blocked, you won't be able to invite that individual.

Go to Events > Create Event > Create Private Event . After entering the details, you'll need to invite specific people by tagging them. Alternatively, go to an event created by someone else, and either click on Invite Friends in the "Go with friends" section of the page or click on the ellipsis at the bottom right of the event to also Invite Friends .

If that person isn't there, they've either blocked you, unfriended you, or aren't on Facebook anymore. Similarly, you can't invite anyone who has blocked you to join or like pages.

Try to Block Someone Who May Have Blocked You

By checking whether you can block someone, you're also checking whether they've deactivated their Facebook. It's similar to tagging: you can only tag people you're not blocked from following and tagging. And so, you can only block people who haven't blocked you.

If using a browser to access Facebook, sign in and click on the down arrow at the top-right of your feed. Go to Settings & privacy > Settings > Blocking and enter a name under Block users . After clicking Block , a list of profiles will appear, giving you the option to block them.

If that person isn't listed, they've either deactivated or deleted their account, or they have blocked you first.

If you're using the Facebook app, go onto your contact's profile, click on the ellipsis to access Profile settings, then try clicking on Block . If you can't even get onto their profile, they've deleted their Facebook account anyway.

You can also block this person on Facebook Messenger. Doing so doesn't necessarily mean they've not blocked you on Facebook itself—Facebook is merely giving you the option to stop them contacting you via Messenger alone.

The only way to be 100 percent certain whether you've been blocked is to ask the person directly. You could also ask a mutual contact to find out, although you need to tread carefully. A mutual friend can at least tell you whether your contact's profile has been deactivated or deleted.

If it turns out someone has blocked you on Facebook, you'll likely feel frustrated and angry, especially if you feel you've done nothing wrong. But in most cases, it's not worth worrying about. It could be something small, like a simple misunderstanding.

How the parasite that RFK Jr. said he contracted infects the brain

A little-known parasitic infection in the brain received a jolt of attention Wednesday when presidential candidate Robert F. Kennedy Jr. said he once suffered from it.

The condition, known as neurocysticercosis, is a brain infection linked to larvae from pork tapeworms. It's rare: It hospitalizes roughly 1,000 to 2,000 people every year in the U.S.

Neurocysticercosis causes seizures, headaches, blindness, blurred vision, dizziness, psychosis or memory loss. In some cases, it may even be fatal.

The infection typically follows a sequence of events: People eat raw or undercooked pork that carries a tapeworm. They then shed tapeworm eggs in their stool and contaminate food or surfaces by not washing their hands. As a result, they or those around them who eat that food or touch those surfaces can accidentally swallow tapeworm eggs.

Once they are swallowed, the eggs hatch into larvae, which can move from the intestine to the brain. The larvae form fluid-filled pockets, or cysts, resembling tiny, clear balloons about a centimeter in diameter.

The eggs are “real sticky,” said Dr. Clinton White, an infectious disease professor at the University of Texas Medical Branch at Galveston. “They get on people’s hands and under their fingernails. Hand-to-mouth I think is an important route of transmission.”

Overall, the condition is poorly understood by health care providers, according to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, which considers neurocysticercosis to be a “neglected parasitic infection.”

“It’s an important disease and gets ignored a lot,” White said.

On Wednesday, The New York Times reported that Kennedy, who is running for president as an independent, once experienced a parasitic brain infection.

Kennedy’s campaign press secretary, Stefanie Spear, said in a statement responding to the Times article: “Mr. Kennedy traveled extensively in Africa, South America, and Asia in his work as an environmental advocate, and in one of those locations contracted a parasite. The issue was resolved more than 10 years ago, and he is in robust physical and mental health.”

According to the Times, Kennedy said in a 2012 deposition that, two years earlier, doctors had detected an abnormal spot on his brain amid symptoms of memory loss and mental fogginess. One doctor concluded it was caused by a worm that got into his brain and then died, Kennedy told the Times.

NBC News was not able to immediately verify the details of the Times report.

The Times also reported that Kennedy said he did not know what type of parasite it was. However, in an interview on the web radio show “ Pushing the Limit s” on Wednesday, Kennedy told host Brian Shapiro that the infection was neurocysticercosis and that the parasite "comes from eating undercooked pork."

Among tapeworms, pork tapeworms are most commonly associated with brain infections.

In March, doctors in Florida published a case study about a 52-year-old man who developed severe migraines from neurocysticercosis. The man had eaten undercooked bacon for most of his life , so doctors presumed he had acquired a pork tapeworm, shed the tapeworm’s eggs and then ingested them, leading to his brain infection.

Larval cysts from neurocysticercosis often live in the brain for around five to 10 years. When they start to die, the body’s immune system attacks them, and the inflammation can lead to epileptic seizures or life-threatening brain swelling. Some cases of neurocysticercosis are asymptomatic.

In countries where pork tapeworms are endemic, neurocysticercosis causes around 30% of all epilepsy cases , according to the World Health Organization.

“It’s a major neurologic infection worldwide,” White said.

“Most U.S. cases are imported,” he added. “They’re in people that acquire the infection in endemic areas — particularly in villages, say, in Mexico or Central or South America.”

The infection is also endemic in sub-Saharan Africa and several parts of Asia.

White said neurocysticercosis is starting to be diagnosed more in the U.S., most likely because doctors are becoming more aware of it.

“It’s probably the parasitic disease that causes the most problems in this country,” he said.

While symptoms may resolve on their own without any treatment, some patients may require seizure medications or a combination of steroids and anti-parasitic drugs. In severe cases, patients may need surgery to remove the cysts.
