The best afternoon tea bus tour in london.

Is there anything that screams “London” more than a red double decker bus? And is there a more stereotypically British meal than afternoon tea? I don’t think so.

So I hope you’re ready for the union of these iconic British elements, into the afternoon tea bus tour! Because what is better than sampling lovely cakes and sipping tea, than doing so while driving around London in a sightseeing bus? (Hint; nothing is).

If you want to have a bit of a unique experience, and see London from a different perspective, the B Bakery afternoon tea bus tour is what you need. Read on to find out everything you need to know about doing your own afternoon tea bus tour!

What is Afternoon Tea?

For those that aren’t acquainted with the glorious British tradition of afternoon tea, I figured I should give you a bit of an introduction about it.

Afternoon tea is a meal first introduced in the 1840s, first as a mini meal between lunch and dinner so that one wouldn’t arrive at dinner too famished. It used to be a social event for high society ladies.

Today it is still considered somewhat a fancy meal and will mostly be consumed on special occasions (unless you have a very traditional English grandma that will make you sandwiches, cakes and tea for when you get home from school).

As the name implies it is usually consumed in the afternoon, however you can have afternoon tea as early as 12pm. It is usually composed of three parts; savoury sandwiches, sweet pastries and scones.

Our afternoon tea bus tour route

We did our afternoon tea bus tour with B Bakery, a lovely cafe in Covent Garden , also considered one of the most Instagrammable cafes in London , which offers also the bus tour service.

Our afternoon tea bus tour started at Victoria Coach Station and covered all the main landmarks in London.

There is an automated guide voice that gives a short history of all the main attractions, but the staff will also chime in and talk about smaller landmarks that aren’t mentioned in the tape, which makes it a much more personal and interesting experience.

Setting off from Victoria Station we first drove around South Kensington , seeing main landmarks such as Hyde Park Corner, Harrods, the Victoria & Albert Museum, the National History Museum and the Royal Albert Hall.

The route of our afternoon tea bus tour

From there we drove on along the side of Hyde Park until we reached Notting Hill , where we then turned right and continued our tour around Hyde Park.

At the North Eastern corner of Hyde Park we drove past Marble Arch, and then back south to Hyde Park Corner (if you’ve never been to London, make sure to add Hyde Park to your itinerary ! It’s one of the best parks in London for outdoors walks ).

Once we there we turned left and drove through central London, seeing Piccadilly Circus, the National Gallery in Trafalgar Square, Big Ben and the Houses of Parliament, Buckingham Palace and we then ended our tour back at Victoria Coach Station.

The tour lasts approximately 1.5 hours, but this really depends on the traffic (and the traffic in London can be pretty awful, but hey that means you get to enjoy a longer afternoon tea bus tour)!

The B Bakery afternoon tea menu

B Bakery offers a number of different types of menus and can also cater for most dietary requirements.

When you make your booking you can also pick what deck and seat you want on the bus. The top deck has the best views, as well as the best photo opportunities .

Whether you want to eat Vegetarian, Vegan, Halal or Gluten-Free, just make sure to say so when you book and the chefs of B Bakery will make sure your dietary needs are met.

As per tradition afternoon tea is served in a tiered plate stand , with savoury sandwiches on the bottom plate and sweets in the top one.

Our afternoon tea bus tour savoury & sweet selection

Savoury treats

The bottom platewas filled with different types of delicious freshly prepared savoury sandwiches.

Some were afternoon tea classics such as the Cucumber & Mint Finger Sandwich, the Watercress & Egg Pretzel and the Ham & Cheese Sandwich With Mayo & Mustard .

The others were more original and I hadn’t seen them served before at afternoon teas, and included things like a Chestnut mushroom quiche, small BLT Burgers and Smoked Salmon Blinis (these were like small pancakes with cream cheese, cucumber and smoked salmon).

These last three were my personal favourites as they were a bit different from what I was normally used to, and especially tasty.

Some of the savoury treats in our afternoon tea selection

Sweet treats

The top tray of our da fuck is that dish called was covered in an assortment of mini homemade cakes and tarts. My personal favourite were the Chocolate Mini Cupcake and the Lemon Meringue Tart.

When we were about three quarters of the tour in and had gotten through most of our food we were served warm scones with jam and cream to end the afternoon tea.

These are typical unsalted English cakes, to which you then add jam and cream to add flavour. They are traditionally always served with afternoon tea.

Don’t miss out – book your afternoon tea bus tour!

The sweet treats of our afternoon tea bus tour selection!

As you may imagine, the traditional drink to have at afternoon tea, is in fact tea.

B Bakery offers a number of different teas from Betjaman & Barton, including traditional flavours like English Breakfast  and Earl Grey , but also more alternative flavours such as Darjeeling and Rooibos Jardin Rouge .

If like me you’re not much of a tea drinker, don’t worry as they have other coffee and hot chocolate options. There is also the option of having a champagne afternoon tea if you want to spice up your afternoon.

The B Bakery reusable mug, you can take this home at the end of the tour!

How to book your afternoon tea bus tour

You can book your afternoon tea bus tour experience online . Just select your chosen date and you’re good to go! It’s one of the most popular London food tours, so you definitely want to book it online beforehand.

  • DebbJ 0 contributions 4.0 of 5 bubbles Great way to get oriented to Moscow We started our Moscow experience with the hop on hop off. It was a great way to get orientated to the city. The additional optional tours were also good, we did the Metro tour which I highly recommend, we also paid for the Kremlin tour. The hop on hop off has three different lines all included. Only fault was the bus was sometimes full and you had to wait for the next one which was about 15 minutes (in the cold). Read more Written January 6, 2020

  • BeverleyT 0 contributions 1.0 of 5 bubbles Boat trip - TERRIBLE We got on the bus, but couldn’t buy a 1 day ticket. They suggested we do the 1 hour boat trip and said they would drop us to the dock. 1) they dropped us in the wrong place 2) they were lost because of the marathon Then the boat, after we finally found it: 1) stinking fumes, actually gagging 2) no commentary, in fact, no interaction unless you begged 3) offered us 2 for 1 icecreams as they had melted and refrozen as the fridge gets turned off at night Honestly, we enjoyed the afternoon in the boat but spent all of it laughing at just how awful it was!!! The worst thing in Moscow! Read more Written August 18, 2019
  • niruDurbs 0 contributions 3.0 of 5 bubbles Not the best value for the price The ticket is quite expensive and covers three different routes in a 24 hour period. The red route is quite exciting and takes about an hour. The bus comes every 10 to 15 minutes. However the other two routes take about two hours each and buses come every 30 to 40 minute period. If the bus is full then you have to wait at the stop for the next bus. So personally I feel that not much can be seen this way. I definitely was not impressed. However it must be noted that one can learn a lot about the history of Moscow Read more Written July 3, 2019

  • Rebecca J 0 contributions 3.0 of 5 bubbles Boat element was excellent We purchased a ticket online for the boat and bus for 2 days. The boat element was wonderful, we saw some amazing parts of Moscow along the river side. The bus element was very disappointing as it only started at 10am and was finished by 6:30pm. It was extremely warm when we were there and it would have been great to do the tour in the cool of the day. There was also no air conditioning in the down stairs part of the bus. They also turned away passengers at one of the stops as the bus was full and there was not another bus for 40 minutes. Read more Written September 26, 2018

  • Peter F 0 contributions 3.0 of 5 bubbles Two Routes There is a short red route which depending on the traffic takes about an hour. The route is generally around the Red Square area. The ear phones were small and sometimes the commentary did not link up with the sites you were seeing. The green bus takes you on a longer route and ours took two and a half hours due to the heavy traffic. I would not recommend this trip unless it is raining or you want to fill in time. The sights we saw were nothing outstanding with plenty of time at certain stops for photos. Also the driver stop for a bite to eat at one stop. Read more Written July 30, 2018

The bus didn't stop at many points. Were were unaware a couple of times at what point we were and missed them. Headphones and maps were provided. Would recommend one should check out the route map before going and decide which places to stop in advance, this way one can manage and enjoy the tour more and us it more effectively.! • WilliamDyer 0 contributions 1.0 of 5 bubbles Poor service on boat and too many waiting times on buses For the price, you should expect at minimum English speaking tour guides with decent experience, but at least in my case that did not happen both in buses and boats. And in the boat even tough we were 90% English speaking tourist at least, the tour guide spoke 95% of the time in Russia, and only 3 sentences in English, I really counted how many times she spoke in English. And at the end she asks us if we have any questions? Of course I told her I couldn’t ask her anything since I didn’t understand 95% of what she was saying. The boat tour is not worth it, just take the bus that would be my advice. Second minus is the waiting times, in the boat they made us wait an hour before it departed, and in many stops with the buses waiting times of 20-30 minutes. I actually think I lost that day around 2 hours doing nothing. Be careful. Read more Written July 10, 2018

March to May is the best time to plan a visit to Moscow. The days are long with significant sunshine which makes this time ideal for exploring the city.
