The group’s eighth studio album, titled Formentera, is set to come out on July 8 and lead singer Emily Haines and bandmates will kick-off the 39-stop road trip with two dates in Victoria on Aug. 11 and 12. Joining the band are B.C.’s Dear Rouge for the Victoria to Winnipeg portion. Bartees Strange will pick up the rest of the dates from London, ON., to Halifax, N.S.
“We’re crafting a set list based on fan favourites including deep cuts from Live It Out and Old World, and it’s been wild to see how the new songs from Formentera flow with the classics from Fantasies and Synthetica,” says Haines. “… I want Metric fans to have the best concert experience possible and feel like they got to escape into another reality with us for the evening.”

The vinyl artwork for Metric’s new album, Formentera, includes a motto that sums up the past few years: This Is What Happened. It’s an understatement that manages to say everything. Even real places become imaginary when they are so far out of reach. Named for an idyllic island near Ibiza off the coast of Spain, Formentera is a place that, for Metric, only existed on a page in a “dream destinations” travel book that lay open on a desk in the new recording studio that guitarist Jimmy Shaw built in 2020, in a rural hamlet north of Toronto. This is the setting where the band’s eighth album took shape. Metric’s sound is both genre-defying and genre-defining. Emily Haines, Jimmy Shaw, bassist Joshua Winstead and drummer Joules Scott Key started playing together in NYC in 2001. They are just getting started. The band will be hitting the road on a North American headline tour, The Doomscroller Tour, and have partnered with PLUS1 so that $1 per ticket goes to supporting War Child and their work to empower children and families in communities affected by war throughout the world. "One of the high points of 2022 for us has been working on putting everything together for The Doomscroller Tour," says frontwomen Emily Haines. "We’re crafting a set list based on fan favorites including deep cuts from Live it Out & Old World and it’s been wild to see how the new songs from Formentera flow with the classics from Fantasies & Synthetica. I’m really happy with the venues we chose, they suit the lighting and sonics and the whole mood of the show we’re crafting. I want Metric fans to have the best concert experience possible and feel like they got to escape into another reality with us for the evening. Can’t wait to get this show on the road!"

Canadian rock band Metric announced on Thursday plans for a tour in support of its forthcoming eighth studio album, Formentera .
The Doomscroller Tour will kick off with a pair of shows in Victoria and stop in 39 cities, including 13 across Canada.
“We’re crafting a set list based on fan favourites including deep cuts from Live It Out and Old World ,” said singer Emily Haines, in a release, “and it’s been wild to see how the new songs from Formentera flow with the classics from Fantasies and Synthetica. I want Metric fans to have the best concert experience possible and feel like they got to escape into another reality with us for the evening.”
Tickets go on sale to the general public on May 6 at 10 a.m. local time.
The tour news came as Metric released “All Comes Crashing” as the first taste of Formentera , due out July 8. It is the band's first studio album since 2018's Art of Doubt .
“Not everyone has a conventional life with conventional relationships,” explained Haines. “‘All Comes Crashing’ is a love song that goes beyond romantic love, it’s an expression of solidarity with whoever it is you would want to have beside you in the event of catastrophe.
“It might be your best friend, it might be your blood brother or your dog. The song is dedicated to those you consider your family, whatever that looks like for you.”

Metric Announce New Album Formentera and 2022 Tour Dates
Watch the video for lead single "All Comes Crashing"
Metric have announced their return with a new album, lead single, and massive North American tour. Entitled Formentera , the the Canadian band’s eighth studio album arrives on July 8th.
Of the lead single, “All Comes Crashing,” frontwoman Emily Haines said it “is a love song that goes beyond romantic love, it’s an expression of solidarity with whoever it is you would want to have beside you in the event of catastrophe.” The track reflects this as it switches from buzzing, pulsing choruses and quiet, reflective verses. “Starting over won’t be easy, broken divided/ Split tomorrow from today,” sings Haines. “Knowing what you know/ Just makes it harder to think straight/ Starting after it breaks.”
You can check out the “All Comes Crashing” video from director Justin Broadbent ahead.
In support of Formentera , Metric have also announced their massive “Doomscroller Tour.” Launching with a two-night stand August 11th and 12th at Victoria, British Columbia’s Royal Theatre, the 39-city trek ends with another double header at New York’s Brooklyn Steel on October 26th and 27th. The Canadian leg running from the kick off through September 24th in Halifax, Nova Scotia will feature support from Dear Rouge and Bartees Strange on select dates, while openers for the US half (September 24th in Asheville through the Brooklyn gigs) are to be announced.
Tickets are set to go on sale Friday, May 6th at 10:00 a.m. local time, but Consequence readers can get in earlier. Beginning Wednesday, May 4th at noon local time, use the code COSMETRIC at Ticketmaster for exclusive pre-sale access.
The Formentera album art and tracklist have yet to be revealed, but you can find Metric’s complete tour itinerary underneath the “All Comes Crashing” video ahead.

Billie Eilish announces world tour, hitting 3 Canadian cities
Singer to visit quebec city, toronto and vancouver on international tour.
Social Sharing
Singer-songwriter superstar Billie Eilish is launching a massive concert tour — with both good and bad news for her Quebec fans.
The Grammy-winning musician will kick off her upcoming tour in Quebec City on Sept. 29 in support of her soon-to-released album Hit Me Hard and Soft .
But despite moving on to Toronto with shows on both Oct. 1 and 2, Eilish does not have any concerts scheduled for Quebec's most populous city, Montreal.
After her upcoming dates in Toronto, the singer will move on to the United States, before returning to Vancouver on Dec. 3. From there, her tour will continue on to Australia and Europe for the summer of 2025.
Why big artists are performing in fewer Canadian cities
Eilish's last tour, Happier Than Ever, saw planned dates in both Toronto and Montreal cancelled due to the COVID-19 pandemic, though Eilish did return to Montreal in late 2023 for the Osheaga Music and Arts Festival.
The news arrived via Instagram, where Eilish shared album artwork showing the pop singer floating in a body of water after being ejected from a door. In the caption, she wrote that she will not drop singles in advance of the release.
"I wanna give it to you all at once," she captioned the image. "I truly could not be more proud of this album."
- Concert ticket system is 'broken,' say artists. But some experts say targeting resellers isn't the fix
- Regina-raised dancer joins army of Kens during performance at the Academy Awards
Eilish worked with her brother and longtime collaborator, Finneas, on Hit Me Hard and Soft . The pair recently took home their second Oscar for their big Barbie ballad What Was I Made For? In doing so, Eilish, 22, became the youngest person to have won two career Oscars.
Her new album will release on May 17, while tickets for the upcoming concert will go on sale May 3 on Ticketmaster.

NEW YORK (AP) — Billie Eilish is hitting the road.
The pop performer will embark on a worldwide arena tour this fall, kicking off in Quebec City in Canada on Sept. 29 and concluding in Dublin on July 27, 2025. She’ll hit many major cities in North America in 2024 before heading to Australia and then Europe.
Presale begins Tuesday, and any remaining tickets will become available Friday at billieeilish.com . A percentage of proceeds will benefit the environmental nonprofit REVERB.
Earlier this month, Eilish announced her highly anticipated third studio album, “Hit Me Hard and Soft,” will be released May 17.
The news arrived via Instagram, where Eilish shared the album artwork showing the pop singer floating in a body of water after being ejected from a door. In the caption, she wrote that she will not drop singles in advance of the release.
“I wanna give it to you all at once,” she captioned the image. “I truly could not be more proud of this album.”
Eilish worked with her brother and longtime collaborator Finneas on “Hit Me Hard and Soft.” The pair recently took home their second Oscar for their big “Barbie” ballad “What Was I Made For?” In doing so, Eilish, 22, became the youngest person by far to have won two career Oscars.
