Omar Apollo Announces Fall 2022 North American ‘Prototype’ Tour Dates
With the highly anticipated Ivory album release, the beloved Omar Apollo has blessed us with his Fall 2022 ‘Prototype’ tour dates. With his first official album, Apollo scrapped an earlier version of Ivory that he felt didn’t do his vision justice, replacing it with the nine-song Apolonio . Then a year later, revisit the project with a new perspective gifting us Ivory .
From R&B to Ivory
This album is rockier than his last. The teenager from Indiana garnered buzz with languid, homemade R&B songs uploaded to streaming platforms from his bedroom. He followed up with a series of singles and EPs, including 2018’s brief but impactful Stereo , whose gently plucked electric guitar solos, expert falsetto, and lyrics about love and longing made him a poster child for lo-fi R&B. The path ahead seemed clear.
‘Prototype’ Tour

Omar has partnered with PLUS1 so that $1 from every ticket goes to support the Grammy’s organization, MusiCares’ work to provide a safety net of critical health and welfare services to the music community.

Omar Apollo Kicks Back at the Aragon For ‘Prototype’ Tour Finale
From effortless riffs to groovy dance moves, Grammy-nominated singer Omar Apollo poured his all into the last stop of his ‘Prototype’ tour at Byline Bank Aragon Ballroom Nov. 30.
Omar Apollo gave an “Endlessly” entertaining show to a sold-out crowd on Nov. 30 at the Byline Bank Aragon Ballroom on his latest “Prototype” Tour. This marks the artist’s second time in Chicago this year after his “Desvelado” Tour, where he performed at the Riviera Theatre on May 5.
Since then, Apollo has seen a significant increase in his following, as the song “Evergreen (You Didn’t Deserve Me At All)” from his April 8 album release “Ivory” went viral as an audio on TikTok, gaining traction.
The entire concert was delayed for a couple of hours due to travel complications at the Canada-United States border from Apollo’s previous concert in Toronto, according to security on site. These claims were not confirmed by official tour staff.
R&B singer and Chicago native Ravyn Lenae opened the evening, performing an array of songs from her May 20 album “Hypnos.” The towering, regal halls of the Aragon carried Lanae’s angelic vocals to the ceiling as she swayed and sang.
Soft blue ambient lighting and remnants of fog from Lanae’s show set the stage for Apollo’s long-awaited performance.
Bassist Manny Barajas and guitarist Oscar Santander were the first to emerge from backstage to a cheery, welcoming crowd. Suddenly, the instantly-recognizable opening lines from his title track “Ivory” blasted from the speakers. The crowd erupted in joy when Apollo’s silhouette became barely visible.
The singer-songwriter donned an all-black two piece set covered in gold sparkles. A single red light shone down on him as he spun around in unison to the music, glimmering with every move.
Apollo opened with “Killing Me,” the sixth track on “Ivory.”
“What I do makes me wonder if I’m alright / Holding back feelings like it’s the end of my life,” Apollo sang, his voice just barely audible over the fans’ singing along.
The 25-year-old followed with “Talk” and “Ugotme,” a song from his debut EP “Stereo.”
“Cause baby there’s something you know / But clearly you say I’m not good for you,” Apollo sang to a crowd that swayed along to “Ugotme.”
After the introductory trio of tunes, Apollo took a break from singing to chat with the audience.
“Y’all know I love Chicago, right?” Apollo said, who was met with booming screams from the crowd. “It’s a different energy tonight. It’s real different, I can tell. Y’all tryna dance tonight or what?”
Safe to say, a dance party was just what the crowd was looking for.
“Kickback” was next up in the setlist — a throwback to Apollo’s 2019 EP “Friends.”
Fuschia-colored spotlights and flashing stage accents perfectly set the mood. A shining disco ball overlooked the crowd, who jumped along to the song’s catchy bassline.
Throughout the show, the Mexican American singer’s jovial, charismatic energy was evident. He consistently entertained the crowd with impromptu dancing and brief interactions.
Mirroring his Chicago concert back in May, the artist sat alongside Barajas and Santana to perform “En El Olvido,” or “Into Oblivion,” an all-Spanish ballad. The screen behind the trio displayed an image of the Mexican flag as they began strumming the song’s melody.
“Y los Latinos donde ‘tan, man?” Apollo said to the crowd, which translates to “And where are the Latinos at?” The crowd replied with their loudest cheers yet. “We ‘bouta do some Mexican ass shit right now,” he added.
After performing “Dos Uno Nueve (219)” the artist switched tones with a performance of “Frío,” creating a much more intimate mood.
Compared to his last visit to Chicago, Apollo’s stage performance and vocal ability have seen great improvement, an impressive feat in just six months. His vocal riffs and smooth harmonies entranced the crowd, who sang along to every word.
Not once did the audience lose their energy, even as the clock approached midnight.
“Chicago, we have one more song,” Apollo said. “And I have a feeling y’all know what the fuck it is.” The Aragon was then painted green with light, perfectly matching the vibe of his next song “Evergreen.”
“One last time, I see / Ever, evergreen / Please don’t come home to me / Sweet evergreen,” Apollo sang as the crowd belted along. The ballad is his first song to chart, with over 105 million streams on Spotify . Much of its popularity can be attributed to its virality on TikTok, according to Variety .
After thanking the crowd and walking off stage, the Aragon rumbled with booming screams, pleading for an encore from the singer. This continued for a few minutes until Apollo finally returned onstage for one last song.
Before performing the last song of the night, Apollo thanked his band and crew and once again expressed his gratitude to the crowd for an unforgettable night.
Apollo made his way down a narrow corridor between two barricades dividing him from the crowd. He smiled as he interacted with fans while performing “Go Away,” the seventh track on “Ivory.”
“But if you had to go away again / I just don’t see you enough / I wish I saw you enough,” Apollo sang the crowd as they swelled around the artist in the pit.
Apollo’s latest album “Ivory” and the rest of his discography is available on all major streaming platforms .

Following the release of his highly-anticipated debut album IVORY earlier this year and his wildly successful Desvelado Tour, Omar Apollo announces his upcoming fall 2022 Prototype Tour dates.
Kicking off in October, the 22-date tour will see stops at the illustrious Greek Theatre in Los Angeles, Brooklyn's Kings Theatre and the historic Ryman Auditorium in Nashville, among others. Omar has partnered with PLUS1 so that $1 from every ticket goes to support MusiCares' work to provide a safety net of critical health and welfare services to the music community.
In celebration of the tour, he also shares a brand new single in "Highlight," arriving on the heels of his recent nomination for Push Performance of the Year at the 2022 MTV Video Music Awards in addition to being featured on Barack Obama's Summer 2022 playlist.
Co-produced by Omar Apollo and Grammy-winning producer Manuel Lara (Bad Bunny, Kali Uchis, Rauw Alejandro), "Highlight" and the previously released single "Archetype" both appear on the deluxe edition of his debut, IVORY (Marfil), out on August 12th via Warner Records with 5 new additional songs.
On "Highlight," Omar's vocal performance shines over mellow production as he glides seamlessly between English and Spanish verses.

The album features the Pharrell Williams and Chad Hugo produced single "Tamagotchi," as well as previously released singles "Killing Me," which debuted with a television performance on The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon, "Invincible" featuring Daniel Caesar, the Teo Halm-produced single "Bad Life" with Kali Uchis and "Go Away," produced by Omar himself alongside Carter Lang and Chromeo.

Entering the World of Omar Apollo: The Prototype Tour Review
On a Friday night in the middle of downtown Norfolk, Virginia, was a crowd of 1500 people waiting for a performance from none other than Omar Apollo . The energy flowed through the room after opener, Ravyn Lenae , stunned the crowd with her enchanting vocals and almost fairy-like presence. Everyone was ready for Apollo to take the stage. At 9:02 pm, the lights dimmed and the room started to shake as the opening interlude, “ Ivory , ” seeped out of the speakers. The stage was suddenly filled with blue light and the guitar chords of the first song, “ Killing Me , ” floated through the venue. With a signature “Omar Apollo spin,” the night had begun.
More recently known as the singer of “ Evergreen (You Didn’t Deserve Me At All) , ” Apollo started his career in his hometown of Hobart, Indiana. At the age of 20, he released a string of singles that lead up to EPs Stereo and Friends . With success from tracks such as “ Ugotme ” and “ Unbothered ”, Apollo garnered the attention of large labels and was soon scooped up by Warner Records. In 2020 he then compiled his mixtape, Apolonio , which featured tracks “ Useless ”, “ Want U Around (feat. Ruel) , ” “ Kamikaze , ” and “ Hey Boy (feat. Kali Uchis) . ” After taking a two year break from releasing music, Apollo released his debut album, Ivory . Ivory houses collaborations with names such as Daniel Caesar , Pharell , Sean Leon , and Kali Uchis and has become his biggest project to date.
At The Norva, Apollo constantly interacted with the crowd, joking about the pronunciation of Norfolk and the “daddies” in the crowd. This made it feel like he was in constant conversation with his fans, which is essential in a smaller venue.
Much like his discography, his setlist bounced back and forth between slick, indie songs and punchy, upbeat Spanglish songs, keeping the crowd on their toes. Apollo skillfully wove his way through his fast-paced track, “ Dos Uno Nueve (219) , ” and border-line rap song, “ Tamagotchi , ” all while spinning and dancing across the stage and interacting with the audience. However, the real standout moments of his set were during slower songs such as “ Petrified , ” “ Mr. Neighbor , ” and “ Invincible ”. During “Petrified,” Apollo stunned with his smooth and piercing vocals during the final chorus of the song. The crowd held their flashlights up, bathing Apollo in light during his most emotional performance of the night.
After only an hour and a half of being in the world of Omar Apollo, it is easy to say that Apollo will continue to amaze with not only the versatile nature of his music, but also with his impressive vocals and personable stage presence.

Omar Apollo
Omar Apollo is one of music’s most exciting shape-shifters. In just a few years' time, the Indiana-raised Mexican-American singer-songwriter went from teenage strummer to one of the most hotly-tipped rising stars of his generation. Apollo has had a transformative but linear journey, from listening to Brandy and Stevie Wonder as a kid, to plucking away at a guitar at as a pre-teen, to self-releasing a pair of EPs as a young man—2018’s Stereo and 2019’s Friends —that established his signature “bedroom soul” and earned him love from fans and press (Pitchfork, Rolling Stone, The FADER, et al.). As unique as his sound is, Apollo has garnered as much attention for his lyrics—themes of romantic yearning and self-improvement swirled up with expressions of cultural heritage and identity.
In 2020, he released his home-recorded project Apolonio which featured collaborations with Bootsy Collins, DJ Dahi, Albert Hammond, Jr., and more. To celebrate Apolonio 's release, Apollo performed a livestream concert from Paisley Park, the legendary residence of one of his heroes, Prince. 2021 saw the release of two singles, “Go Away,” which Apollo performed on The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon , and “Bad Life” featuring Kali Uchis. Apollo closed out the year on a high note receiving his first Latin GRAMMY nomination for his collaboration “Te Olvidaste“ with C Tangana.
Apollo’s long-awaited debut album IVORY arrived in the Spring of 2022 and catapulted him to another level in his career while earning him critical acclaim from the likes of the New York Times who celebrated his “knack for jagged, irreverent pop songs” and Rolling Stone who declared him “one of the most exciting artists of his generation.” Album singles such as “Invincible” featuring Daniel Caesar, “Killing Me”, “Go Away”, and “Tamagotchi (Prod. by Pharrell and Chad Hugo)” cross genre lines as well as language barriers as the full-length showcases even greater musical diversity from the already boundless creator. He went on to perform those and more at a breakout Coachella set in April of 2022 and again across his sold out Desvelado tour. Despite all that he has accomplished, Omar feels like he's just getting started. The artist who once called himself “just a kid from Indiana” is breaking new ground, abandoning all comfort zones, and never looking back.

Omar Apollo Says He’s Finishing His ‘Best Album Yet’
By Tomás Mier
Omar Apollo is looking at himself through Zoom as he tries on the beige Sherpa jacket he just bought. “You fuck with it?” he asks.
It’s hard not to fuck with everything the Mexican American alt-R&B star does. Apollo dropped his debut album, Ivory , in April 2022, then blew up with the ultra-sentimental song “Evergreen,” and followed that success by touring with SZA last year. Recently, he’s been dipping into fashion. (A massive billboard of him dripped in the luxury designer Loewe looms over Sunset Boulevard in L.A.)
Apollo is back in L.A. these days, putting the finishing touches on his upcoming album, out in the summer. He dropped his album’s first single “Spite” last Friday, and he’s experimenting with jazz, house, and other genres.
He tells me it’s the best music he’s ever made. And, nah, he’s not just saying that.
Good. I just got back from visiting family in Durango, Mexico. Duranguense ! I know the dance. You’re supposed to act like you got a penny stuck in between your cheeks or something.
Your knees. Oh, your knees? I remember my mom would teach me how to do that. I was in baile folklórico when I was younger. It was zapateado and dances like that. The girls had the little clicks in their hands and the big dresses. The guys would have sombreros and mariachi-looking pants.
How are you feeling about this new album? I read that you are angrier on it. Angrier, definitely, on the single “Spite.” Now it’s back to my old longing-for-love vibe, but it’s reimagined. I got in with Teo Halm. He’s been my friend since I was 17 years old. We met when I worked at Guitar Center.
Editor’s picks
The 250 greatest guitarists of all time, the 500 greatest albums of all time, the 50 worst decisions in movie history, every awful thing trump has promised to do in a second term.
In one of the tracks, you sing about grief. I’ve heard before that grief is the highest, most intense form of love. It’s such a complex feeling because you could feel grief for someone who’s passed away or grief for someone you have heartbreak over. That song, in particular, is one of my favorites on the album. I took my time and was trying to give an imagery and a feeling, and a temperature and a light. Even the writing is kind of psychedelic.
There’s one house-infused song that feels like it came from left field. I was trying to paint an image. I want to be able to set a scene the way that a film would. I wanted something people could just be at the club with, because when you think of my music, you don’t think about the club. So I’m like, “Fuck, I need some club shit.” But it was just how I was feeling at the time, in London especially. I was going to so many parties.
Omar Apollo Craves Proximity and Adoration on New Single 'Spite'
Sza will release 'leaks and outtakes' from 'sos' as deluxe lp to focus on next project, sza, tyler, the creator, and blink-182 to headline lollapalooza 2024.
I remember I had a conversation that kind of rubbed me the wrong way. I thought, “It doesn’t matter what your idea and image of me is. What matters is if I can wake up and I can be excited to go and perform the songs and be excited to put them out.” If I feel strongly about it and I feel like I exhausted every avenue to get to where we’re at, and I feel proud, then I think that that’s what’s important. Those outside opinions can fuck with you a lot, and you just have to take it with a grain of salt.
What sort of opinions do you ask for? I’ll ask very specific things. I’d be like, “I’m going to play you 20 songs, pick your favorite.” That’s it. I don’t want to know why it’s your favorite. Just tell me which one. I think when you’re in the creative process, it’s so delicate that anything could damage your energy toward it. That’s why it’s not good to take in a lot of opinions. I actually have a friend who literally won’t play me anything, and he has been working on a whole album and he won’t show me any of it. He’s on my album too.
You have your Disha Hot sauce going to Taco Bell. My mom made the hot sauce recipe. I wanted to do a relaunch of my hot sauce, but I had to make Ivory. I was like, “Fuck, I have to put this aside for now and focus on the music.” The hot sauce packets will be in every Taco Bell in America. It feels good because she crossed the border from Mexico and opened up a restaurant. When I was born, it became too much, so she had to shut it down. This was the hot sauce she used in the restaurant, so it’s me being like, “Since I made you get the restaurant shut down by being born, this is how I’m paying you back.”
What kind of food would your mom make? She would make tortas ahogadas, chiles rellenos, aguachile. She made a lot of shit. She was so good at it, I’m not going to lie. That just made my mouth water.

In L.A., you went from the Shrine to opening for SZA at the Forum. When I played the Shrine, which was like 5,000 people, “Evergreen” hadn’t blown up yet, so I was like, “Damn, I feel successful.” After that show, I remember feeling like, “I want to triple this.” And then the SZA tour happened, and I was like, “Fuck.” I had to focus because that was an entire crowd of people who just didn’t know me. It was scary. After the arena tour, that’s when I figured out how I wanted to make music. I was like, “Oh, I want to make music for arenas.”

What Is Omar Apollo’s Song Setlist For The ‘SOS Tour’ With SZA?
The year is filled to the brim with highly-anticipated concert tours and festivals. Chart-topping recording artist SZA’s SOS Tour is near the top of the list. The “ Kill Bill ” singer launched her North American tour wing of her tour yesterday (February 21) in Columbus, Ohio, at The Jerome Schottenstein Center.
Over the next few weeks, the songwriter will embark on a 15-city tour with support from singer Omar Apollo . The Grammy Best New Artist nominee has quickly gained a fan base due to his deeply emotional approach, which will fit in perfectly with SZA’s discography while on tour. Although SZA’s setlist will fluctuate across each night’s performance, Omar Apollo’s growing fame and discography doesn’t offer as much flexibility.
According to setlist.fm , Omar’s setlist is a mix of both fun and sad songs. View Omar Apollo’s setlist and the remaining SOS Tour dates below.
