ProTour Live Order of Merit

Players Championships

In 2003, to commemorate PDC Official Bobby Bourn, the PDC organised a tournament in Blackpool before the World Matchplay. There is good prize money on offer, and it’s organised very well and therefore a great success. In those years most PDC ranking tournaments were still very scattered across the calendar and under different organizers. This tournament proved to be the stepping-stone to a new structure where the PDC itself held control of the organization and the prize money. Phil Taylor beat John Part to win the first Bobby Bourn Memorial.

In the second year especially the Professional Darts Players Association of the PDC (PDPA) invested to build this circuit. That year five PDPA Players Championships appeared on the calendar. These tournaments proved a great success and soon the PDC expanded this circuit. In 2010 there were no fewer than 37 Players Championships.

With the introduction of the Euro Tour in 2012 Players Championships disappeared on the European continent until 2018 there are 20-22 annually held, all in Britain and Ireland. From 2019 the UK Open qualifiers disappear from the calendar, they are replaced with extra Players Championships. The number for 2019 is 30 in total. The floor tournaments also return to mainland Europe. Hildesheim in Germany hosts two events in 2019.

At the beginning of 2021, 366 Players Championships have been held. The most successful players in the Players Championship history until 2020 are Phil Taylor with 45 wins, Michael van Gerwen with 30, Gary Anderson with 24 and James Wade and Peter Wright with 17 wins. 72 Different players have won a Players Championship. In total 133 nine-darters have been thrown.

There is no seed list and each round is drawn by lot. The UK Open has been held since 2003, until 2013 the “Reebok Stadium” in Bolton was the venue. Since 2014 the “Butlins Resort” in Minehead is the venue.

Participants: 32 32 nations with two players each will be invited to the WCoD by the PDC. The eight best nations will be seeded according to the rankings of the two invited players. Grand Slam of Darts The Grand Slam of Darts is the only major event where professionals from the PDC and BDO (British Darts Organisation) participate. Home of the GSoD since 2007 is the “Civic Hall” in Wolverhampton. The Aldersley Leisure Village is the venue in 2018 and 2019 due to renovation work.

Participants: 32 The Top 8 of the PDC Order of Merit is set. The first round is played in eight groups of four, one seeded player is drawn in each group. The two best players of each group advance, from the second round on the KO system is played. Up to 16 additional places will go to the finalists of the PDC Major Events. Participants: 16 The Top 16 of the PDC will be invited. There is no draw, the tournament schedule is based on the ranking position (1-16, 2-15 etc.).

In addition, four more players will be entered via the Order of Merit, and eight participants will be invited by the PDC. Four more places will be played in a separate qualifier.

Premier League Darts The Premier League Darts is the biggest road show of the PDC. On 15 match days, the four participants in the final of the Premier League are determined. The Premier League is played in Great Britain and Ireland, since 2016 there is also a matchday in Rotterdam. 2018 was the first time the event was played in Germany, since then the “Mercedes-Benz Arena” in Berlin has been part of the Premier League.

In 2005 and 2006, 7 players took part in the Premier League, from 2007 to 2012 there were 8 participants. Since 2013, the Premier League has comprised 10 participants. After nine match days (Judgement Night), the last two players in the table are eliminated. The top 4 after fifteen match days qualify for the final. The Top 4 of the Order of Merit after the World Cup is automatically qualified. Six additional starting places will be awarded with wildcards.

PDC Pro Tour Events The PDC Pro-Tour includes the Players Championship Events and the European Tour Events. The prize money from these events will all go towards the Pro-Tour Order of Merit. While the events of the European Tour will be held in front of spectators, the Players Championship Events will be held without public audiance.

Players Championship Events The Players Championship Events will be held in Great Britain. Since 2019 there are also events in Germany. The field of participants is limited to 128 holders of a PDC Pro-Tour-Card. Free places due to cancellations by players will be filled according to the Challenge Tour Order of Merit.

European Tour Events The European Tour has been organised since 2012 and is the tournament series of the PDC Europe with events in Germany, Austria, the Netherlands, Belgium, the Czech Republic, Hungary and Gibraltar.

Participants: 48 The top 16 of the Pro-Tour Order of Merit is set. 32 additional starting places will be played in various qualifying tournaments. In the first main round, the 32 qualifiers determine the opponents of the top 16 who will enter the tournament on the second day.

Development Tour The Development Tour is the newcomer series of the PDC. The minimum age for participation is 16 years. Players who were under 24 years of age on 02 January are also eligible. Each season, 20 tournaments will be held on five weekends as part of the Development Tour. In 2016, the Development Tour made its first stop in Germany. The top 72 of the Development Tour Order of Merit as well as 24 other qualifiers determine the World Youth Champion. In the final round of the 96 best players, the finalists will be determined. The final of the World Youth Championship will take place in the Players Championship Finals.

Challenge Tour The Challenge Tour is the perfect foundation for the Players Championship events. Ambitious players can gain valuable competition experience here, while former top players have the opportunity to play their way back. Each season, 20 tournaments are held on five weekends as part of the Challenge Tour. Every participant of the Q-School is entitled to participate in the Challenge Tour, Tour Card holders are not allowed to participate.

PDC Qualifying School The Q-School is the ticket to the professional darts sport. At the beginning of a new season all free PDC Tour-Cards will be played on four days. The four semi-finalists have a Tour-Card for sure. All other available Tour Cards will be issued on the basis of the separate Q-School Order of Merit. Any player who participated in the Q-School and did not receive a Pro Tour Card is eligible for the Challenge Tour. In addition to the Q-School in England, there has been a European Q-School in Hildesheim since 2018. All players who are not from Great Britain or Ireland are allowed to participate.

PDC Tour-Card Only holders of a PDC Tour-Card may participate in the Players Championship Events. The top 64 of the Order of Merit after the World Cup will automatically receive a Tour-Card. The Tour Card is valid for two years, so players who have dropped out of the top 64 will be allowed to enter the Players Championship for another year. Additional Tour Cards will be awarded to the best players on the Development and Challenge Tour. All available seats will be played through the Q-School. Only 128 Tour Cards will be awarded each year.

Pro Tour Card [ ]

Script error: No such module "redirect hatnote". Since 2011, the PDC Pro Tour has operated a Tour Card system. 128 players are granted Tour Cards, which enables them to participate in all Players Championships.

In 2011, Tour Cards were awarded to:

  • 101 players from the PDC Order of Merit after the 2011 World Championship
  • 2 finalists from the 2010 PDC Women's World Championship
  • 25 qualifiers from a four-day Qualifying School in Wigan (4 semi-finalists from each day, plus the top 9 players from the Q School Order of Merit)

Tour Cards were also offered to the four semi-finalists from the 2011 BDO World Championship , although none of the players took up the offer.

From 2012 onwards, the PDC Tour Cards were awarded to:

  • Top 64 players from the PDC Order of Merit after the World Championship (having competed in at least ten events)
  • Tour Card holders from previous year's Qualifying School
  • Tour card holders from previous year's invitations (BDO World Championship & World Youth Championship)
  • 4 semi-finalists from the 2012 BDO World Championship
  • 2 finalists from the 2012 World Youth Championship
  • At least 16 qualifiers from a four-day Qualifying School (more places will be awarded via this method if not all the above spaces are filled)

From 2015 onwards, the PDC withdrew the Tour Cards awarded to BDO semi-finalists. The new distribution of Tour Cards is as follows:

  • Four tour card holders from previous year's invitations (PDC Challenge Tour & PDC Development Tour)
  • Two highest qualifiers from the PDC Challenge Tour, a series of tournaments for non-Tour Card holders
  • Two highest qualifiers from the PDC Development Tour, a series of tournaments for youth players

Players Championships [ ]

Players Championships , originally known as PDPA Players Championships, are organised by the Professional Dart Players Association (PDPA) and have increased in number in recent years. They are known as "floor tournaments", because they usually feature 16 darts boards in close proximity on an arena floor where the tournament is played in the space of a day. Televised events differ by having just one main board on a stage with the audience and cameras situated around it.

Eligibility for these events are usually restricted to PDPA members only, however tournaments held outside of the United Kingdom often allow entry to non-PDPA members who are residents of the country staging the tournament. Some overseas players from the BDO take the opportunity of playing in PDC Players Championships in their home countries.

Order of Merit [ ]

The prize money won in Players Championships count towards the PDC Order of Merit , which contributes to each player's world ranking .

During 2007, the PDC and PDPA added further importance to Players Championships by changing qualification criteria for major televised events. A separate Players Championship Order of Merit was introduced which calculates players earnings for these tournaments only each calendar year. The players who won the most money (without qualifying automatically via the PDC Order of Merit) were awarded qualifying places at major tournaments, such as the World Matchplay , World Grand Prix and PDC World Darts Championship .

Previously, a sudden-death knockout qualifying tournament decided the players which meant players could miss out on tournaments because of unlucky matches or unlucky draws. The World Championship, however, still maintains an additional qualifying tournament – from which Kirk Shepherd emerged and went on to reach the world final itself in 2008. This was dropped for the 2010 running of the event, however it was reinstated for 2011.

Entries [ ]

PDPA members must enter events through the PDC's online entry system, while non-PDPA members must enter through the local organiser for the relevant event. The entry fee for all Players Championships is £100 for Tour Card holders.

In addition, seedings for Players Championship events are determined by a one-year rolling Players Championship Order of Merit, consisting of prize money won in Players Championships over the 12 months before that event. The top 32 players in the Order of Merit that have entered the tournament are seeded.

All UK Players Championship events have a 128-player draw.

All non-UK Players Championship events consist of no more than 256 players, with all Tour Card holders that have entered the event starting at the last 128 stage.

If fewer than 128 players enter a Players Championship event, byes are awarded to players in order of their seeding. For example, if there is one bye, the number 1 seed will receive a bye into the last 64.

Prize money [ ]

The prize money for PDC Pro Tour events has increased steadily over the years. Prize money is awarded to all players who reach at least the last 64 of a Pro Tour event. In the past, Players Championships held outside of Europe awarded less prize money than those held in the United Kingdom or Europe.

In 2011, all Players Championship events and UK Open qualifiers awarded £34,600 each, but from 2013 on Players Championship events awarded £50,000.

Up to 2013 on the Pro Tour, there was also a rolling jackpot for nine-dart finishes . £500 (Players Championship events) / £400 (UK Open qualifiers) per event is reserved for any player who hits a nine-dart finish, with the money rolling over to the next event if the feat is not achieved. If more than one player hits a nine-darter in an event, the jackpot is shared.

Prize funds for Pro Tour events over the years:

PDC European Tour [ ]

In 2012, the PDC introduced a series of five tournaments held across Europe known as the European Tour. The number of events has steadily risen with eight held in 2013 and 2014, nine in 2015, ten in 2016, twelve in 2017, and as of 2018, there are thirteen events. [6] These events see the top players on the PDC Order of Merit compete against players from a UK qualifier, European qualifier and home nations qualifier (the country where the event is held). Currently the prize fund for each tournament is £140,000, with £25,000 going to the winner. [7] These events differ from others held on the Pro Tour as they are played on one board in front of an audience. They are not televised, but selected events have been available on the PDC's YouTube channel in the past. [8] All events are now shown live on the PDC's PDCHD-TV website.

UK Open Qualifiers [ ]

The UK Open is a major tournament that takes place each year in March at Butlin's Minehead . [9] [10] From 2003 to 2013 the tournament took place at Bolton's Reebok Stadium each year in June. Prior to the televised event, there were eight UK Open Qualifiers (originally named Regional Finals), where the prize money won was collated into a UK Open Order of Merit table which determined the 96 qualifiers for the UK Open finals in Bolton. From 2003 to 2015 there were ties and a preliminary round would be used to reduce the field to 96. In 2016 ties were scrapped and countback was used to separate players who were level. [11]

The tournaments were organised similarly to the Players Championships in that 32 boards were in operation for a non-televised "floor tournament", completed in one day. During the 2007–08 UK Open, sponsors Blue Square streamed live coverage of these Regional Finals on the internet.

From 2011 until 2013, the UK Open Qualifiers were held on four double-header weekends instead of being held on eight Sundays. From 2014 onwards there were only 6 UK Open Qualifiers. [10] UK Open Qualifiers were abolished in 2019, as all tour card holders were invited to the UK Open from then on. [12]

Why Encyclopedias The World Heritage Encyclopedia includes the great general encyclopedias of the past and the present but all types of works that claim to provide in an orderly arrangement the essence of "all that is known" on a subject or a group of subjects, translated from the Koine Greek enkyklios paideia, which literally means "complete knowledge". As French philosopher, and contributor of the Encyclopedie Denis Diderot, said "Indeed, the purpose of an encyclopedia is to collect knowledge disseminated around the globe; to set forth its general system to the men with whom we live, and transmit it to those who will come after us, so that the work of preceding centuries will not become useless to the centuries to come; and so that our offspring, becoming better instructed, will at the same time become more virtuous and happy, and that we should not die without having rendered a service to the human race. "

Accessibility World Heritage Encyclopedia, (WorldHeritage.org) is a live collaboration differing from paper-based reference sources in important ways. Unlike printed encyclopedias, we are continually editing, updating, and appending, articles on historic events appearing within minutes, rather than months or years. WorldHeritage.org is fully accessible on a tablet, smartphone, laptop, desktop computer, or any Internet-connected device with a Web browser.

Is Print Obsolete? "Thinking beyond the format", Encyclopedias join a long list of paper we once thought we couldn't live without, like the Sears catalog, Yellow Pages and maps. Even the world famous Encyclopedia Britannica will no longer be printed after 244 years, the final edition costing almost $1400. Today, the modern encyclopedia is often in electronic form and much more affordable then the traditional paper versions. Unlike many online encyclopedias, World Heritage Encyclopedia is an aggregation of professionally written, crowd sourced, peer reviewed, and edited articles, making our information the most reliable and complete encyclopedia. On-line encyclopedias offer the additional advantage of being dynamic; new information can be presented almost immediately as it is happening in the world. With modern technology we have the extra advantage of information being portable as well.

The Pro Tour

The PDC Pro Tour is the bread and butter of any player in the PDC. Floor tournaments played behind closed doors that the ranking are build from.

The PDC Pro Tour is a series of darts tournaments organised annually by the PDC. The Pro Tour events are unique in that they are non-televised events and they comprise Professional Dart Players Association (PDPA) Players Championships, UK Open qualifiers and European Tour events.

The PDC began operating a Tour Card system in 2011, with there being a total of 128 players awarded Tour Cards every year. These allow players to participate in all Players Championship and UK Open qualifiers. There has been a particular increase of Players Championship events over recent years, all of which see players aim to qualify for the Players Championship Finals. These events are known within the sport as floor tournaments, with multiple boards featuring games taking place at one time.

The PDC Pro Tour

As of today, the PDC awards players Tour Cards through the following requirements:

  • Top 64 players from the PDC Order of Merit after the World Championship (having competed in at least ten events)
  • Tour Card holders from previous year’s Qualifying School
  • Four tour card holders from previous year’s invitations (PDC Challenge Tour & PDC Development Tour)
  • Two highest qualifiers from the PDC Challenge Tour, a series of tournaments for non-Tour Card holders
  • Two highest qualifiers from the PDC Development Tour, a series of tournaments for youth players
  • At least 16 qualifiers from a four-day Qualifying School (more places will be awarded via this method if not all the above spaces are filled)

PDPA (Professional Dart Players Association) players can only enter Pro Tour tournaments through the PDC’s online entry system. Those who are not a PDPA player must submit their entries through the local event organiser.

UK Players Championship events feature a 128-player draw, but those events which feature fewer than 128 entries will see byes awarded to players via their seeding. Seedings for these events are decided by the one-year rolling Players Championship Order of Merit, which is determined by the prize money won in Players Championships events over the 12 months before that event. Tour Card holders must pay a £100 entry fee to all Players Championship events.

Prize money won by players in the Pro Tour also contributes directly to their overall ranking in the PDC Order of Merit, which decides seedings in a number of PDC ranking tournaments . Players can also earn automatic qualifying places in major tournaments such as the World Championship, World Matchplay and World Grand Prix through their prize money earned. As such, players performances in events on the Pro Tour can have a direct correlation on their success in the televised ranking events.

Players win the following amount of prize money for their success in Pro Tour events:

  • Winner – £10,000
  • Runner-Up – £6,000
  • Semi-Finals – £3,000
  • Quarter-Finals – £2,250
  • Last 16 – £1,500
  • Last 32 – £1,000
  • Last 64 – £500

In the history of PDC Pro Tour events, no player has won more titles than Michael van Gerwen, who has 75 to his name. He sits just above Phil Taylor in the list of Pro Tour victories, who won 70 Pro Tour tournaments during his esteemed career, while Gary Anderson sits in third place with 30 victories.

pdc pro tour 2005

Explanation of 2020 PDC Pro Tour circuit workings and Prize Money breakdown

The pdc pro tour 2020 includes thirteen european tour tournaments and 30 player championship events . this article explains how the pro tour system works..

All results are included on an annual basis in the PDC Pro Tour Order of Merit. There is also a separate ranking for each of the two above mentioned circuits.

Thirteen European Tour events count towards the Euro Tour Order or Merit. The 32 highest ranked players after the thirteen Euro Tours will participate in the European Championship in Dortmund.

Finally, there is a Players Championship Order or Merit for the 30 Players Championship events. The 64 best players in the Players Championship rankings will participate in the Players Championship Finals at the end of November.

How other majors are affected

For other ranking TV tournaments, such as the World Matchplay, World Grand Prix and the World Championship, the entire Pro Tour Order of Merit is considered. So a combination of those three circuits contribute to the overall ranking total.

For example, at the World Championship, besides the 32 best players in the world rankings, the 32 best players of the Pro Tour Order or Merit are also invited. This way, players who perform especially well at the floor tournaments can take part in the major TV tournaments. Only 2019 floor performances count towards the Ally Pally reckoning.

For tournaments that take part in the middle of the year, like the World Matchplay this is different. In the case of the World Matchplay 2020, the 'cut-off' will be on July 5. Then the results on the floor tournaments in the period July 5, 2019 - July 4, 2020 will be examined.

If a player wins a Players Championship event, for example, then they are in the running for three or four tournaments thanks to one win. Josh Payne won a Players Championship tournament four years ago. As a result he was able to participate in the World Matchplay, Players Championship Finals and the World Championship as a result.

Pro Tour rankings are also used to determine the seeded players for Euro Tour tournaments. At every Euro Tour event, the current top 16 of the Pro Tour Order of Merit enter automatically.
