Tour Mohammed VI

BESIX et Six Construct construisent la Tour Mohammed VI, la plus haute tour du Maroc. Un édifice présentant une haute qualité environnementale avec les certifications LEED Gold et HQE, une esthétique particulièrement fine et un condensé d’innovations développées par le Département Ingénierie de BESIX.

La plus haute tour du Maroc

Atteignant une hauteur de 250 mètres, la Tour Mohammed VI a été pensée afin d’être visible à 50 kilomètres à la ronde. D’une superficie totale de 102.800 m², l’immeuble est composé d’une tour, elle-même installée sur un podium, le tout évoquant une fusée sur son pas de tir.

L’intérieur de l’immeuble a été conçu sur 55 étages, accueillant un hôtel de luxe, des bureaux, des appartements de haut standing ou encore une terrasse d’observation à son sommet, le tout accessible via un total de 40 ascenseurs dont 23 dans la tour et 17 dans le podium.

La structure de l’édifice tient non seulement compte de données habituelles, par exemple le vent ou les réalités sismiques, mais également des crues de son voisin, le fleuve Bouregreg. Le contreventement est assuré à 70% par son noyau en béton et à 30% par la structure des portiques acier de la façade. Le haut de la tour accueillant des appartements, un système d’amortisseur harmonique servant à limiter les oscillations sera installé dans les derniers étages.

Conçues par le Département BESIX Façade, les façades présentent une esthétique particulièrement fine sur une surface de plus de 70.000 m², en l’occurrence de 41.000 m² pour la tour et de 32.500 m² pour le podium. Transparente au nord, la façade sud de la tour accueille des panneaux photovoltaïques.

Culture, Environnement, Innovations

La Tour Mohammed VI constitue l’édifice emblématique du plan d’aménagement de la Vallée de Bouregreg, en l’occurrence l’une des principales composantes du programme «Rabat Ville Lumière, Capitale Marocaine de la Culture». Celui-ci prévoit la réalisation de grands projets urbains structurants, dont le Grand Théâtre de Rabat et la Maison des Arts et de la Culture.

La façade sud de la tour sera intégralement équipée de 3350 m 2 de panneaux photovoltaïques tandis que des systèmes de récupération des eaux de pluie et de recyclage des eaux usées ont été intégrés à la conception du bâtiment. L’eau chaude elle-même émane d’un système interne de récupération d’énergie. L’ouvrage a été conçu afin d’être certifié LEED Gold et HQE et donc conforme aux standards internationaux les plus élevés en matière de haute qualité environnementale.

Enfin, les innovations apportées par le Département Ingénierie de BESIX garantissent un ouvrage à la pointe des techniques contemporaines dans le domaine de la construction.

Mohammed VI Tower in Morocco wins the best engineering project prize in Madrid

Rabat – The 15th Annual Caminos Madrid Awards 2022 presented the prestigious “Best Performance in Terms of Engineering Projects or Work Developed by a SME” award to Morocco’s Mohammed VI Tower, the highest tower currently under construction in Africa.

The prize was recently given to Bernabeu Ingenieros, the engineering consulting company responsible for the structure’s design, and to O Tower, a division of O Capital Group, which is led by the CEO of BMCE Bank of Africa, Othman Benjelloun.

The Madrid College of Civil Engineers’ Caminos Madrid Awards are regarded as a gold standard in the building sector. The awards are intended to honor the outstanding achievements of the port, canal, and road engineers who are essential to the advancement of sustainable, social, and economic development.

The engineering consultancy expressed their appreciation by saying, “This is a project that has been with us nearly from the beginning of our studio; a tower we have contributed to rise to become the tallest in Africa; and above all, a shared project that has generated enormous pride in the city of Rabat and throughout Morocco.”

“We extend our sincere appreciation to Caminos Madrid for this award, which we have received with great enthusiasm and satisfaction,” the business continued.

The dean of Caminos Madrid, Maria Dolores Esteban, praised the winning individuals, businesses, and organizations for their efforts to enhance quality of life.

“You inspired the entire profession and made us very proud,” Esteban said.

Her statement that “society faces important and urgent challenges, such as adaptation to climate change and hydrological planning, the creation and maintenance of sustainable urban mobility infrastructures, and the development of the circular economy,” was made in response to the question.

Le tour hassan & mausoleum of mohammed v.

Rabat's two major attractions stand opposite each other looking out over the Oued Bou Regreg. Le Tour Hassan (the Hassan Tower) was the towering minaret of the Hassan Mosque, which began construction in 1195 under the Almohad Yacoub el Mansour. Intended to be 60m high (200 ft.) -- and subsequently one of the tallest in the world -- the tower stands today at 44m (145 ft.), having been abandoned upon the death of the sultan in 1199. It's still a formidable structure and looms over the remains of its ruined mosque, flattened by an earthquake in 1755. The mosque was designed to hold 20,000 worshipers, and even though all that is left today are rows of reconstructed columns, the scale of its grandness is still visible.

Facing the tower is one of the country's most important shrines, the Mausoleum of Mohammed V, which is open to non-Muslims. Here lie the tombs of the nation's -- and the current king's -- grandfather, King Mohammed V, and his two sons King Hassan II and Prince Moulay Abdellah. Designed by a Vietnamese architect and inaugurated 6 years after Mohammed V's death in 1961, the building's surprisingly plain exterior white walls and green-tile roof betray an interior of exquisite traditional Moroccan craftsmanship. Mosaics of zellij rise from the marble floor to a ceiling of gold leaf and hand-carved cedar wood, while the three ground-floor tombs are carved from white onyx. The tomb of Mohammed V is flanked by those of his two sons, all of which are visible from an interior balcony and guarded by elaborately dressed royal guards and fez-topped security agents.

Next door is the Mohammed V Mosque, constructed at the same time and used mainly for Friday midday prayers and on important holy days. The whole complex, which encompasses Le Tour Hassan and the Mohammed V Mosque, is open daily and guarded by royal guards, who are mounted on steeds and are usually open to being photographed. It's a pleasant, though gradually uphill, 30-minute walk from most accommodations, though on humid summer days you might want to catch a petit taxi and then stroll back. Visitors should dress respectfully -- covering the shoulders and the knees -- and avoid coming between noon and 2pm, when the mausoleum closes for midday prayers in the adjoining mosque.
