Risa Summer Event FAQ/Guide

risa star trek online

Floaters are essentially anti-gravity jetpacks that (for some reason) can only be used on Risa (though I wish they were usable everywhere). They come in 5 different quality levels, and are useful for most of the Summer Event events, and are absolutely required for others (Risa Biathlon, Flying High)

First, rentals. You can rent one for a limited time (I believe it’s 15-20 minutes) for 1000 EC, and when it’s time limit is reached, it just…goes away. Doesn’t matter where you are or what altitude you’re flying at. Rentals are low quality and have low speed (35) and low maneuverability (Sub-Standard Flight Maneuverability). You should get a better grade ASAP.

The second grade is Standard. Standard Floaters cost 50 Lohlunat Favors, are permanent, and are available in the color of your choosing (as long as you choose Black, Blue, Red, or White). They have low speed (30…even lower than rentals), but have Standard Flight Maneuverability, so will be easier to control than rentals.

Next up is Enhanced. Enhanced Floaters cost 500 Lohlunat Favors, are permanent, and are available in the color of your choosing (same colors as standard, plus Green, Orange, Pink, Yellow, Cyan, Gray, and Purple). They’re the fastest grade yet (40 flight speed), and have Enhanced Flight Maneuverability, so will be even easier yet to control.

Now come the Superior Floaters. They cost 1000 Lohlunat Favors, are permanent, and have 50 flight speed and Superior Flight Maneuverability, and so are even better than Enhanced Floaters. They come in a wide variety of colors, and even color combinations. They sound good, but my advice is DON’T BUY ONE OF THESE. I’ll tell you why in a moment.

The highest grade of floaters are Impulsive Floaters. They also cost 1000 Lohlunat Favors. However, they have 70 flight speed and still have the Superior Flight Maneuverability. So they’re significantly faster than Superiors, and have the same maneuverability. They’re available in a few different color combinations: Purple/Orange, Blue/Green, Black/Gold, Green/Pink, and Yellow/Red, and they also have one each based on the color schemes of the Star Trek baseball teams the Deep Space Niners and the Vulcan Logicians. This is the grade of floater you should be aiming to get. They’re the best available at the moment.

Powerboards

risa star trek online

Powerboards are hover surfboards with propulsion units. They can be used both on Risa and also at the Dranuur colony. There are a couple Risa events that absolutely require a Powerboard, but the rest of the time they’re just for fun. Those events are the Risa Biathlon and the Making Waves Powerboard Race. Makes sense, right? They come in 6 different quality levels, which are similar to Floater quality levels, are named identically (with one addition), but are slightly different.

Rentals: as before, 1000 EC gets you 15-20m of time on a low quality powerboard. 63 Speed Rating, 60 Turn Rating. Get a better grade ASAP.

Standard: permanent, costs 50 Lohlunat Favors. 63 Speed Rating, 75 Turn Rating. So, unlike with floaters, a standard is a clear upgrade over a rental. Even if it’s a small upgrade.

Enhanced: permanent, costs 500 Lohlunat Favors. 68 Speed Rating, 90 Turn Rating.

Superior: permanent, costs 1000 Lohlunat Favors. 73 Speed Rating, 120 Turn Rating.

Elite: permanent, costs 1500 Lohlunat Favors. 78 Speed Rating, 150 Turn Rating.

Impulsive: permanent, costs 1500 Lohlunat Favors. 88 Speed Rating, 80 Turn Rating.

So you can see that while, as with floaters, Impulsives are the fastest available, they’re also significantly harder to control than an Elite or Superior board.

You can also get an Elite powerboard from the Phoenix store with a Very Rare token (Future Flyer) if you don’t want to spend Lohlunat Favors on one but have spare phoenix tokens.

Flying High

risa star trek online

Flying High can also be completed every 13 minutes or so per character for an additional 50 Lohlunat Favors.

Dance Party

The Dance Party/Dance Off! is another great way to get your daily credit. If it happens to be happening close to when you want to do your daily progress. I believe it only comes up every 90 minutes or so. Basically, everyone gets on the dance floor (the big square flat surface in the pool at the front of the Resort). When the event begins, click the “I Want to Dance!” button (or you won’t be enrolled in the event for credit or rewards), and the NPC Dance Instructor then calls for everyone to perform a specific dance once every 15s. All dances called will be default dances that everyone has.

risa star trek online

One idiosyncrasy I’ve noticed is that when she calls to “Just Dance!” , it seems to want Dance (Mix) as opposed to Dance (Basic) or something else *shrug*

Anyway, when you first start, you’ll have a mission to complete 3 dance moves. When done you get 10 Lohlunat Favors and a mission to complete 5 more dance moves. Complete that and you get 15 Lohlunat Favors and a mission to complete 10 more dance moves. Complete that and get 25 Lohlunat Favors and a mission to complete 20 more dance moves. Do that and you get 50 Lohlunat Favors and you’re done for this round. You can keep dancing till the time runs out, but you won’t get any more rewards. But you already got 100 Lohlunat Favors, for maybe 15m of clicking the correct dance emote every 15s 😀

Making Waves

Horga’hn Hunt

The Horga’hn Hunt is like a scavenger hunt for small Horga’hn statues, scattered around the resort. They only appear when the event is on, and they always appear at more or less the same spots. They’ll be marked on your minimap when you’re on the mission.

risa star trek online

You have 15 minutes to find 10 Horga’hn.

Once you find and collect 10 of them, you’re done. The locations disappear from your minimap, and the statues themselves go away. Each time you find a statue, you get between 2 and 5 Lohlunat Favors. When you turn the mission in, you get an additional 75 Lohlunat Favors. If you have 5-6 characters that all have at least Superior floaters, you should be able to get them all through this event in the time limit. It’s one of the fastest ways to rack up favors, though the initial setup cost for those characters is fairly high.

Risa Biathlon

The Biathlon is another race-style game. Basically, you start out on a powerboard, race a course on the powerboard, then transition to a floater for a race through floating rings to the finish line. It’s another event that’ll be dominated by people who know the tracks and have elite or impulsive powerboards and impulsive floaters. Rewards are identical to the powerboard race’s: 75 favors and 12 tropical tags to the winner, 50 favors and 6 tags to 2nd place, 25 favors and 3 tags for 3rd place, and anyone who finishes after that gets 15 favors and 2 tags. Again, at the end of the race, just beyond the finish line, you’ll see a platform with a flag on it. The race is decided not by who passes the finish line in what order as you might expect, but instead by who grabs the flags in what order. So you could finish behind someone else, but if they’re slow to click the flag, you can still get first place. Or vice versa. So be careful and be quick on clicking that flag!

Sun, Sand, and Scavenging

risa star trek online

Unearth the artifact from the mound and talk to Sovak again to turn it in. You don’t have to go all the way back to his camp to turn it in, you can just communicate with him to end the mission and get your reward. Which is 50 Lohlunat Favors.

Uniquely, you can do this mission outside of the scheduled events. Completing it outside of it’s time slot will only get you 20 Lohlunat Favors.

Here’s a link to a slightly more in-depth guide with slightly different maps. MK’s Artifact Scavenger Hunt Guide

Doff Missions

The Winter event has doff missions that award extra ornaments. The Summer event does not. The Summer event instead gets many variations on two basic types of pet. Risian Feather Monkeys and Risian Tropical Birds.

risa star trek online

Remember those Tropical Tags you get from completing the Making Waves board race and the Risa Biathlon? Well, you can turn in 6 of them via doff mission, and 20h later your doff will come back to you with a random baby Feather Monkey. It can be Blue, Green, or Red, and can come with or without a tiki mask. After this, you can send it back and wait another 20h for it to gain a maturity level. So babies can be turned into Juveniles, which can be turned into Adults, which can be turned into Seniors. A critical success on any of these monkey-raising doff missions will also see them gain the tiki mask. You can use individuals in any stage as non-combat pets. Or you can turn them in for choice of mark boxes if you don’t want to hang onto the cute little guys for some reason (you monster), or if you get extras in a color you already have.

risa star trek online

Whenever you pick up a Horga’hn during the Horga’hn Hunt event, you have a chance to also pick up a Risian Tropical Bird Egg. Or you can purchase them from the Risian Vendor NPC for 150 Lohlunat Favors. Anyway, you can turn one in via a doff mission, and 20h later your doff will return with a random Risian Tropical Bird Chick. It can be a Seaspray, a Grotto Glider, a Passion Wing, a Dusk Diver, a Sunset Streamer, or a Firespray, and can either be tufted or not. After this, you can send it back out on another doff mission and wait another 20h for it to gain a maturity level. So Chicks can be turned into Fledglings, which can be turned into Adults, which can be turned into Seniors. Again, a critical success on any of the bird raising doff missions will see them become tufted. Again, you can use any individual in any stage as a non-combat pet. And again, you can turn them in for choice of marks boxes if you don’t want them or have extras.

THINGS TO DO WITH YOUR FAVORS

Lohlunat Favors are not bound to you, and so can be bought and sold on the Exchange. At the time of writing, the lowest price per Favor is 10,500 EC. And so you can see my first point for this section well-illustrated without a screenshot :D.

Earning and selling Favors can be a good way to make EC for players that don’t have a ton of ec, but have time to put into the event.

Conversely, if you’re a player with more EC than time to put into the event, you can buy your Favors on the exchange, get what you want out of the event store, and also only complete whatever event you want for daily progress daily.

Of course, the very first things you should be looking to buy are Floaters and Powerboards, to earn more Favors faster, and to get around Risa more ably. Perhaps also some swimwear or surfwear, so you actually look like you’re having a relaxing time on the resort planet.

risa star trek online

Speaking of kit modules, there are a fair number available now. The only real stand-out I know of is the Graviton Spike, and only then if you’re tactical and use the Boolean Cannon lobi weapon…but none are just terrible as far as I know. Likewise, the Boff ground abilities are competent but not amazing.

risa star trek online

Speaking of Tribbles, there are a few special varieties you can breed with food items only available from vendors during the festival. The food items are unbound and sellable on the Exchange, so you could also find them there.

Grand Slam Tribbles: Effect – Removes all previous Tribble Buffs +2.5% Run Speed for 3,600 sec +5% Bonus All Damage with Melee Attacks for 3,600 sec Bred by getting any tribble to eat: Nachos, Hotdog, Peanuts, Caramel-Coated Popcorn, Blueberries, Egg White Burrito, Green Juice (Extra Green), Spumoni Ice Cream, Stadium Soft drink, or Jipper. All available for 5-8 Lohlunat Favors from a Risian Bartender.

Lohlunat Tribbles: Effect – Removes all previous Tribble Buffs +2.5 Psionic Damage Resistance Rating for 3,600 sec +0.03 Health Regeneration for 3,600 sec During Summer Event: +5 Flight Speed for 1.5 sec +0.05 Inertia Rating for 1.5 sec Bred by getting any tribble to eat: Rokassa Juice, Risian Mai-Tai, Risian Wine, Chocolate Passion Punch, Baked Risian Beans, Icoberry Torte, Palamarian Sea Urchins, or Oysters Rockefeller. All available for 5 Lohlunat Favors from a Risian Bartender.

Risian Tribbles: Effect – Removes all previous Tribble Buffs +0.05 Health Regeneration for 3,600 sec +1% Maximum Hit Points for 3,600 sec During Summer Event: 5 Flight Speed to Self and Friends within 4.5m for 3600 sec 0.05 Inertia to Self and Friends within 4.5m for 3600 sec Bred by getting any tribble to eat: Bajoran Mojito, Caracal Bowl, Risian Sunrise, or Suraya Bay Iced Tea. All available for 8 Lohlunat Favors from a Risian Bartender.

You may notice that the Risian Tribble is good for doing stuff during the festival, since it increases your flight speed and maneuverability slightly…every little bit helps when you’re trying to take that first flag!

On the Promenade, there’s a vendor that sells blue (Rare) and purple (Very Rare) Duty Officers in three Specializations (Conn Officers, Entertainers, and Geologists) for Lohlunat Favors. Blues for 200 Favors, Purples for 1000 Favors. The blues, I believe, are available to anyone. The purples, however, you need to get the Master Relaxer Accolade to unlock. I’ll talk about that more shortly.

Screen Rant

Star trek’s pleasure planet risa explained.

Star Trek's pleasure planet Risa is a tropical paradise with very friendly locals and sensual customs that make it a popular tourist destination.

  • Risa, known as a "pleasure planet," catered to every whim of its 1.3 billion annual visitors, embodying a paradise with a generous spirit.
  • With its Earth-like conditions and sex-positive culture, Risa combined all-inclusive resort joys with a hedonistic reputation among the United Federation of Planets.
  • Star Trek captains and their ships frequently visited Risa for shore leave, as it offered hospitality services, natural attractions, and a celebration of sensuality.

In Star Trek , the planet Risa was a popular tourist destination, commonly referred to as a "pleasure planet." With an overall temperate to tropical climate and at least 2 moons that orbited a binary star system, Risa was known as a paradise that catered to every whim of its 1.3 billion annual visitors. Thanks to the Risian's pursuit of pleasure, not just for themselves but also for their guests, the planet's native populace had a generous spirit that embraced travelers both figuratively and literally, with the motto, "All that is ours is yours."

As a Class M planet with Earth-like conditions , Risa combined the peaceful joys of a planet-wide all-inclusive resort with its people's anything-goes, sex-positive attitude. This gave Risa a decidedly hedonistic reputation among its fellow members in the United Federation of Planets. Its culture was represented by the horga'hn , a vaguely humanoid-shaped statuette with an elongated head and diamond-shaped base. Displaying this fertility symbol indicated one was seeking jamaharon , a state of enlightenment implied to be achieved through Risian sexual rituals, and which its people were well-versed in, as Captain Jean-Luc Picard (Patrick Stewart) accidentally found out on his first visit there.

Star Trek’s Pleasure Planet Risa Explained

Pleasure comes in many forms on Risa, so it became well-known throughout the Federation for its hospitality services and celebration of sensuality. Points of interest on this Federation member world included exciting nightclubs, peaceful resorts, and many natural attractions. Risa boasted gorgeous beaches, bioluminescent subterranean gardens, steam pools, and mud baths, in addition to named locations like Galartha Cliff, which changed pitch for its climbers; the rain-free Temtibi Lagoon; and Suraya Bay, host to a moon festival called lohlunat . Risa also developed points of interest specifically for Vulcans, as noted by T'Pol (Jolene Blalock) in Star Trek: Enterprise .

Risa's definition of pleasure extended beyond merely sensual delights, with its pursuit serving as inspiration for the development of its primary technologies. Most notably, Risa's history as a cold, rainy jungle subject to frequent earthquakes prompted Risians to create a planet-wide artificial weather grid and seismic regulators, which transformed Risa into a lush, tropical paradise that was pleasant for most humanoid species. The development of industrial replicators allowed Risians to cater to their guests' every material need. The use of weapons was banned on Risa, but a pleasurably addictive Risian headset game could be considered one, if its users weren't careful.

Which Star Trek Captains & Ships Visited Risa

Star Trek captains and their ships visited Risa, usually so their crews could enjoy shore leave on the pleasure planet. In Risa's first appearance Star Trek: The Next Generation season 3, episode 19, "Captain's Holiday", Commander William Riker (Jonathan Frakes) suggested Risa as a destination for Captain Jean-Luc Picard , where he met love interest Vash (Jennifer Hetrick). Lt. Commanders Jadzia Dax (Terry Farrell) and Worf (Michael Dorn), among others, vacationed on Risa in Star Trek: Deep Space Nine season 5, episode 7 "Let He Who Is Without Sin..." It was implied that Captain Benjamin Sisko (Avery Brooks) also visited Risa, albeit at another time.

Risa was also a destination for series set outside the 24th century. The NX-01 Enterprise led by Captain Jonathan Archer (Scott Bakula) became the first human-crewed starship to visit Risa in Star Trek: Enterprise season 1, episode 25, "Two Days, Two Nights". Archer was joined on his visit by Ensigns Hoshi Sato (Linda Park), Travis Mayweather (Anthony Montgomery), Lt. Malcolm Reed (Dominic Keating), and Commander Charles "Trip" Tucker (Connor Trinneer). Star Trek: Discovery didn't visit, but mentioned Risa, and 32nd-century mad scientist Dr. Ruon Tarka (Shawn Doyle), an important character in Discovery season 4, was Risian.

Since its first appearance in Star Trek: The Next Generation , Risa became a planet synonymous with paradise. It was mentioned on nearly every Star Trek series as a tropical getaway, with its reputation for pleasure well-known among most characters. Risa's beautiful environment and particularly friendly culture made it the go-to destination for Starfleet officers and their companions seeking relaxation and respite from their responsibilities ... and maybe a little jamaharon .

'Two Days and Two Nights' and What Happens on Risa...

Even in the Star Trek universe, vacations don't always go as planned.

Illustrated banner featuring stills from 'Two Days and Two Nights' - Archer, Trip, Malcolm, Hoshi, and Mayweather

StarTrek.com

Say the word, and you instantly find yourself transported to an idyllic setting — bright sandy beaches kissed by azure waves, lush greenery, beautiful waterfalls. In a nutshell, Tahiti on steroids. It’s the epitome of a tropical vacation replete with beautiful people, cocktails flowing like water, aliens commingling on some kind of galactic spring break. Throughout Star Trek , Risa has been the one location that’s universally hinted at fun, relaxation, and pleasure. Similar to our own exotically-located vacations, it’s somewhere to let loose, have a few umbrella drinks, and throw the stress of daily life aside. Or so we think.

Idyllic overhead shot of Risa's clear skies, lush greenery, and beautiful beaches in 'Two Days and Two Nights'

In Star Trek: Enterprise ’s “ Two Days and Two Nights ,” the crew finally arrive at Risa after a few detours. We learn that by drawing lots, only some of the crew is able to go down and party. For those going, the excitement is tangible. It reminds me of the pre-travel excitement I’ve felt over the years when it was time for a trip. The nervous knots in your belly as you drag your suitcase through the airport terminal. It’s a different kind of nervous, nothing akin to a job interview or taking a test — it’s more like that Christmas morning feeling as a kid. I’m guessing that’s what the Enterprise crew felt before heading down to the planet. Up until now, the crew had only heard about Risa from word of mouth. Hopes were high — perhaps a little too high?

The Enterprise crew in their shore leave attire take a shuttlecraft down to Risa in 'Two Days and Two Nights'

Everyone partaking of the trip to Risa had certain expectations. Captain Archer was looking for some bonding time with Porthos , and a little peace and quiet. He notably booked a private villa away from the rest of the crew. Trip and Malcolm rather excitedly discuss broadening their “cultural horizons,” which meant looking for beautiful women. Mayweather ambitious plans a rock climbing excursion, while Hoshi sets her sights on learning the language of Risa, sans universal translator. Everyone has some goal in mind for their particular adventure on the pleasure planet.

Star Trek History: Two Days and Two Nights

Without diving into a full play-by-play, let’s just say everything goes completely awry. Captain Archer meets a beautiful woman staying in the nearby villa, only to find out that she’s a Tandaran spy sent there to procure information from him on the Suliban . Mayweather has an accident and has to be rushed back to Enterprise .

My absolute favorite duo this episode, Trip and Malcolm, suavely check out the ladies at the local club, and do, in fact, end up meeting two beautiful women. Turns out, appearances aren’t what they seem — both end up tied up in a basement, sans clothing — the victims of a Risean-mugging. Of all the characters, Hoshi is the only one whose plans end up changing for the better. She hits it off with an attractive alien, finding a little romance in addition to language mastery.

Star Trek: Enterprise -

I, too, remember going on a trip to New York City (my present-day Risa) a few years back. I also had ambitious expectations in the back of my mind — revisit every major museum, go to one of the most popular restaurants, see a Broadway show, etc. Like the crew, I was eager and excited for some time off and adventure. Yet, also like them, my trip also didn’t turn out quite as planned. I went to the Met, but found it crowded beyond belief. Not only was I nudged and elbowed by tourists, I also managed to get lost. Anyone who knows me is aware that I’d rather stay lost than ask for help, but at some point, I put my pride away and asked a docent for a way out, which as it happens, was only 20 or so feet away.

Since the museum plan was a bust, I figured maybe I’d have better luck at one of the critically-acclaimed restaurants I wanted to check out. Let’s just say, at the end of the night, I was writhing in pain, hunched on the floor. I ordered something I had never heard of before, in fact, it might as well have been in Klingon. OK, another fail. For sure the Broadway show I was going to go see next would make everything that went wrong seem trivial. And you know what? It was a great show. And if you ask the 6'7" guy who sat directly in my line of sight, he’d totally confirm. As for me, I had a rather boring view of his head.

Archer enjoying a book and Porthos' company on the patio of his Risean villa by moonlight in 'Two Days and Two Nights'

Vacations in real life, and in Star Trek (in particular those that take place on Risa), always seem to go awry. Let’s not forget Picard’s ill-fated trip in Star Trek: The Next Generation 's “ Captain’s Holiday .” Like the crew of Archer’s Enterprise , Picard was looking for a nice, relaxing break. Little does he know, he gets embroiled with Vash, the Ferengi, and the quest for the Tox Uthat. His much-needed vacation goes a little topsy-turvy; although at the end of the episode, we get the notion that everything that transpired was right up his alley. Despite that, just like Archer’s crew, he’s not super eager to chat about it afterwards.

Likewise in Star Trek: Deep Space Nine ’s “ Let He Who Is Without Sin… ," Jadzia plans a romantic getaway with Worf, only he gets embroiled with fanatic zealots and becomes the embodiment of the ultimate party-pooper. Staying indoors in the rain because the planet’s weather grid had been sabotaged was not what Jadzia had planned. In the end, they reconcile, but I’m pretty sure that’s now how either wanted to spend their trip to Risa.

Hoshi Sato longingly gazes and grasps hands with an attractive visitor on Risa in 'Two Days and Two Nights'

Expectations surrounding vacations can sometimes set us up for failure if things don’t go our way. Life has a way of sabotaging our best-laid plans. It’s particularly difficult when it’s something we’ve planned in advance and really look forward to. Of everyone on the crew, only Hoshi comes through her Risean adventure happy and fulfilled. Her main goal was a modest one (for her, that is; for us, picking up another language in two days would be impossible). She went to Risa with an open mind and went with the flow. Everyone else had preconceived notions that didn’t quite pan out. At the end, the crew figured it was best not to talk about what transpired, which I completely empathize with after my ill-fated trip to the Big Apple.

Maybe the one thing we can take away from “Two Days and Two Nights” is to embrace the fact that sometimes things don’t always go as planned, especially during vacation. We put enough pressure on ourselves on a daily basis. Maybe the real goal of vacation is to actually let loose. No plans, no expectations; just try to enjoy and embrace the moment. Especially when you’re on Risa.

Culture and climate [ ]

Risa was originally a dismal, rain -soaked, and geologically unstable planet covered with vast jungles and plagued by violent earthquakes . However, the planet was transformed by the native Risians with a technologically sophisticated weather control system that provided almost-constantly desirable weather , industrial replicators , and seismic regulators to eliminate the geological instability for optimum tourist comfort. By at least the mid- 22nd century , Risa became known for its beautiful tropical resorts and an abundance of pristine beaches , making it a popular tourist destination. Tourism is the main economic source of income for Risa. ( ENT : " Two Days and Two Nights "; TNG : " The Mind's Eye "; DS9 : " Let He Who Is Without Sin... ")

Risa was most noted for its native population having a frank and open attitude to sexuality . By the mid- 24th century , Risa had developed a reputation as being a most peaceful planet, where weapons weren't allowed. ( TNG : " Captain's Holiday "; DS9 : " Let He Who Is Without Sin... ")

In 2371 , after surviving an attack by the Vidiians , Kathryn Janeway and Chakotay remembered a "cautionary tale" told to Starfleet Academy cadets before their first shore leave on the planet. In the tale , a man goes to Risa, meets an alluring woman who seduces him into what he thinks will be an evening of passion. Upon awakening in the morning, he feels awesome but discovers that he's missing a kidney . ( VOY : " Fury ")

( ENT : " Two Days and Two Nights ")

According to the Vulcan database, Risa had over two hundred registered Nuvian masseuses . ( ENT : " Fallen Hero ")

Risa also offered many diversions designed to appeal to Vulcans . ( ENT : " Two Days and Two Nights ")

History [ ]

Enterprise-D over Risa, 2366

The Enterprise -D orbits Risa in 2366

In 2152 , Enterprise NX-01 visited Risa for two days for some shore leave . This stopover marked the first official visit of an Earth starship to Risa and also the farthest any Human had officially traveled from the Sol system up until then. ( ENT : " Two Days and Two Nights ")

Also, during the 22nd century , a time traveling scientist from the 27th century named Kal Dano came to Risa. There, he hid an invention of his called the Tox Uthat – a device capable of halting all nuclear fusion within a star – from Vorgon criminals who considered it to be a formidable weapon . ( TNG : " Captain's Holiday ")

Risa was a common travel destination during the mid- 23rd century . During the Federation-Klingon War of 2256 , two crewmen aboard the USS Discovery laughed about someone who had never been to Risa. ( DIS : " Context Is for Kings ")

By the 24th century , the history of the Uthat had passed into local legend and both the Vorgons as well as Federation archeologists tried to recover it. ( TNG : " Captain's Holiday ")

On Stardate 34180.7 , Risa hosted a Starfleet bridge tournament in which Jean-Luc Picard won a Silver Spade . ( Star Trek Nemesis )

In 2366 , Vash , a Human archaeologist who was concluding years of search by Professor Samuel Estragon , found the Tox Uthat buried in a cave . She wanted to conceal her discovery from other interested factions, such as vacationer Jean-Luc Picard, but as Picard discovered her deception and the Vorgon's longing for the dangerous device, he destroyed it. ( TNG : " Captain's Holiday "; DS9 : " Q-Less ")

In 2373 , the New Essentialists Movement , who led a campaign to turn the Federation away from its perceived decadence, successfully sabotaged Risa's weather control system. They attempted to do the same to the planet's vital seismic regulators, but were stopped when Lieutenant Commander Worf became disillusioned with them and refused to continue the demonstration. ( DS9 : " Let He Who Is Without Sin... ")

She killed Jossen, but Menos escaped. She was later dismissive of her activities there upon Enterprise 's 2152 visit, saying merely, " I've visited Risa before. It seemed appropriate to give someone else a chance. " ( ENT : " The Seventh ")

During Enterprise 's two days and two nights on Risa, crewmembers enjoyed various locations, such as Suraya Bay and the Galartha cliffs. Risa concept art

Concept art for Risa in DS9

There are two pronunciations for Risa. In the script for "The Mind's Eye", the pronunciation was "RYE-sa". [1] In the script for "Q-Less"", the pronunciation was "RYE-suh". [2] The latter pronunciation was used in the script for "Fallen Hero".

The concept of Risa was invented by Ira Steven Behr , who based the script for the episode "Captain's Holiday" on it. Gene Roddenberry approved of the idea of the "pleasure planet" but wanted to radically change Risa's culture to incorporate extremely graphic depictions of homosexual behavior, which Rick Berman advised Behr to ignore. ( William Shatner Presents: Chaos on the Bridge )

Years after working on Star Trek: The Next Generation , Patrick Stewart once claimed that Risa was the only planet from TNG that he could remember the name of. ( William Shatner Presents: Chaos on the Bridge )

For DS9 : " Let He Who Is Without Sin... ", sets representing guest chambers on Risa (such as Pascal Fullerton 's, as well as one used by Worf and Jadzia Dax ) were built on Paramount Stage 17 . ( citation needed • edit )

In ultimately omitted dialogue from the final draft script of ENT : " Desert Crossing ", Jonathan Archer and Charles Tucker III agreed that, when they arrived on Risa, the first thing they would do would be to "jump into the nearest swimming pool" they could find. In the same script, Risa was depicted as appearing in the episode's final shot, referred to in a scene description as "a beautiful, blue-green planet," despite the fact Risa does not appear in that episode's final version. Nonetheless, Risa was also referred to as a "blue-green planet" in the final draft script of ENT : " Two Days and Two Nights " and in incomplete visual effects footage from a deleted scene excluded from that episode (the latter of which can be seen in the special features of the ENT Season 1 DVD and Blu-ray ).

Scott Bakula in front of green screen

One of the shots in which Risa was intended to replace green screen

In the version of the ultimately deleted scene from the final draft script of "Two Days and Two Nights", a scene description stated, " Risa hangs enticingly outside the windows, " and another scene description mentioned "the promise of Risa shining through the windows." The filmed version of the scene demonstrates that, if the scene had been completed, the planet would have been inserted into the footage with replacement of green screen .

In another scene description from the final draft script of "Two Days and Two Nights", Risa was referred to as a "spectacular planet." The surface of the planet was also scripted to be extremely serene.

In a scene that was scripted for the end of ENT : " Home " (and included in the ENT Season 4 Blu-ray ) but never filmed, Risa was briefly mentioned, as one of several small rocks which Archer left at his father 's grave had been taken, by the captain, from Risa. In the same scene, Archer commented, as if to his deceased father, " That's a place I wish you could've seen. "

A reference to Risa was included in the first draft script of the aborted film Star Trek: The Beginning , set in 2159 . Risa was noted to be the location where Archer and Enterprise were during a series of Romulan attacks in the Sol system , which took place on 13 August 2159 and initiated the Earth-Romulan War .

At the conclusion of DIS Season 1 , After Trek host Matt Mira commented to Sonequa Martin-Green and Anthony Rapp that he thought the USS Discovery 's crew should set a course for Risa. Martin-Green agreed with this, since the Federation-Klingon War depicted in the series was now over, but Mira had to explain to her what Risa was before she understood. ( AT : " Will You Take My Hand? ")

Deanna relaxing

The Risian emblem, tilted by 90°

A logo for Risa, depicting a sunset over an ocean, was created and shown in VOY : " Inside Man ", on Deanna Troi 's beach towel. A more colorful version was used in the reference book Star Trek: Star Charts (p. 53).

According to Star Trek: Star Charts (pp. 53, 56), the planet Risa (Epsilon Ceti B II) was class M and its government was the Risan Hedony. This planet was admitted into the United Federation of Planets in 2249 . The Risan capital was Nuvia. The population of Risa, which included Risans and individuals from many other species, in 2378 , was 2.81 billion, and, in an average year, up to 1.3 billion tourists visited the world. Points of interest included Temtibi Lagoon, Suraya Bay, and the Eluvian Mud Baths. The tropical climate was controlled by a weather control system. In the 24th century , Risa was a popular destination on the major space lanes.

Risa, the primary of Risa, was located in the Alpha Quadrant on a star chart visible in the Star Trek: Discovery episode " Magic to Make the Sanest Man Go Mad ".

The Star Trek Encyclopedia  (4th ed., vol. 2, p. 225) described Risa as a tropical class M planet.

According to StarTrek.com , Risa was located in the same sector as Starbase 12 . [3]

Apocrypha [ ]

According to the RPG sourcebook Planets of the UFP , Risa was the third planet in the Tau Regulon system.

According to the RPG sourcebook Worlds , Risa was the third planet in the Granicus system.

The biography for Starfleet Lieutenant Hawk in the video game Star Trek: Starship Creator states that his parents Gwyneth and Ethan were residents of Risa.

The non- canon Star Trek: Destiny novel mini-series depicted Risa as one of the many worlds decimated during a Borg invasion of the Alpha Quadrant in 2381.

Before ENT : " Rajiin " established Nuvians to be a separate species, the reference to Nuvian masseuses on Risa in ENT : " Fallen Hero " was misinterpreted by the non-canon Star Trek: Star Charts , which lists the city of "Nuvia" as the capital of Risa.
