Sariska Tiger Reserve: A safari guide’s tips on the best time to visit, permits, hotels

By Kriti Saraswat-Satpathy

Sariska Tiger Reserve

At the crack of dawn, we wake up to the chirping of birds at our accommodation Utsav Camp, located close to the Tehla Gate of Sariska Tiger Reserve. The adventure begins even before we enter the park as we spot a golden jackal, a mongoose, and several peacocks on our way. Once inside, the chase for the striped beauty begins with many other jeeps lining up for the thrill. After following a few alarm calls and driving around, we head on a different path, and there we spot her, sunbathing in all her glory, a tigress named ST 30. She walks towards us before retreating into the thick of the forest and reappears just when we think we lost sight of her. The rush of excitement at the sudden sighting, the fear as she inches closer and the childlike wonderment that lingers on, Sariska gave us all this and more.

Sariska Tiger Reserve A safari guides tips on the best time to visit permits hotels

Planning a successful safari trip to Sariska requires a whole lot of research. To make things easier, Anil Roderges, the head naturalist at Utsav Camp Sariska, answers some common queries for a seamless safari experience.

What makes Sariska Tiger Reserve special?

A former hunting ground for the royal family of Alwar , Sarika has seen abundance as well as ample loss in its wildlife population. In 2004-2005, all its tigers were wiped off, which impacted the entire flora and fauna of the forest. But in 2008, the government and Wildlife Institute of India revived its tiger population by successfully relocating two tigers from Ranthambore National Park to Sariska Tiger Reserve. In the following years, a few more were relocated, and according to current records, it has a population of 31 tigers in its area of 881 square kilometres. Despite not being the most popular park in India, the dry deciduous forest boasts ample sightings that are only getting more prominent, a healthy bird life and places of historical and mythological importance, some of which are inside the reserve. It can be accessed from two gates, one more touristy than the other, giving travellers a choice to go with a popular or lesser explored zone. As you drive down from Jaipur , city buildings give way to boulders that line both sides of the road, tiny village settlements can be spotted and peacocks make an appearance every few metres. The blend of wildlife and manmade structures in one place makes Sariska Tiger Reserve special.

What to spot at Sariska Tiger Reserve?

“Sariska is a dense forest belt and a good habitat for terrestrial birds, but also has some water bodies where you can find residential and migratory birds,” says Roderges. When here, go birdwatching with a trained guide who can help you spot terrestrial birds like painted spurfowl, dusky eagle owls, brown fish owl, Indian peafowl, black francolin, painted francolin, spotted owlet and crested serpent eagle.

During monsoons, you can spot all types of cuckoos, shrikes, doves and aquatic birds like northern shoveler, northern pintail, gadwall, Eurasian wigeon, whistling teals, white-eyed pochards, ducks, moorhen and coots. Sariska is also home to seven species of vultures. Being a tiger reserve, the star attraction remains spotting the striped beast, but Sariska is also home to leopards that are at times spotted on the boulders surrounding the park. “Inside, you can find hyena, sambar deer, spotted deer, four-horned antelope, nilgai, wild boar, caracal, Asiatic wildcat, rusty spotted cat, porcupine and pangolin,” he says.

What’s the best time to go to Sariska Tiger Reserve?

“The charm of each safari is different, whether it is in the winter or summer. For me, Sariska is an all-year-round destination, except for the months it is shut, making it difficult to pick a specific season. While sightings are usually higher in summers due to watering holes drying up in the forest, the winter months offer a more pleasant experience with the lush greenery adding more charm. Sariska is also a haven for birdwatchers in these months. Sightings at Baghani and Kali Ghati are likely as there is a new tigress, ST 30, which has a small territory. Meanwhile, ST 23, a male tiger also resides here, ” says Roderges.

How many safaris should you do during a 3-night stay?

The naturalist recommends at least two safaris on your visit. Alternating between a morning and an evening slot is a great way to explore the reserve at different times of the day. You can also split your trip into two parts to be able to see the reserve from different gates.

What are the safari slots at Sariska Tiger Reserve?

Sariska Tiger Reserve has two safaris during the day, and the timings vary according to the season. Usually, from April to June, the safari is from 6 am to 9.30 am, and from 3 pm to 6.30 pm. In October as well as February and March, it opens from 6.30 am to 10 am, and 2.30 pm to 6 pm. From November to January, it changes to 7 am to 10.30 am and 2 pm to 5.30 pm. The reserve stays shut from July to September every year.

How to book a safari permit at Sariska Tiger Reserve and how much does it cost?

Most accommodations around the tiger reserve offer safari booking services, while some even have an in-house naturalist to accompany guests on the safari at an additional cost. Alternatively, you can book a safari to any of the gates on the government portal and plan your visit as per the availability. While 75% of safari booking slots are reserved for advance bookings that can be made up to 365 days prior, you can also make a current or ‘tatkal’ booking as per the slots available about 30 minutes before each safari. “I recommend letting an agent or your hotel make a safari booking as they already have an SSO ID which is required for online bookings,” says Roderges.

Sariska Tiger Reserve A safari guides tips on the best time to visit permits hotels

The official portal lists the fee starting from Rs776 for Indians and Rs1,516 for foreigners. Every safari also has additional costs including the driver and guide fee. “A government safari usually costs around Rs8,000 for a gypsy with a maximum of six passengers. The cost includes all taxes, driver and guide fees and the vehicle cost. If you book through a hotel such as Utsav Camp then our fee is also added taking it up to Rs13,000 where we provide pick-up and drop services and an in-house naturalist provided there are only five passengers in a gypsy,” explains the naturalist.

How to book a jeep and guide at Sariska Tiger Reserve?

The online process lets you book a jeep (a gypsy or a canter) and driver, or some hotels also provide a vehicle along with a driver and naturalist.

Which zones are the best at Sariska Tiger Reserve?

There are two gates at this reserve which are about 80 km apart. The more popular one, known as Sariska Gate has access to zones 1 and 2, but the other one, Tehla Gate, has access to zone 3 and even though it is smaller, often leads to sightings. “Plan your safari according to your stay. If you are staying in Alwar near the first gate then book a safari from there but if you are closer to Tehla, take one from there where you will find a comparatively lesser number of tourists,” suggests Roderges.

What are the best hotels in Sariska Tiger Reserve?

Utsav Camp Sariska (doubles from Rs 9,700; website ) founded by Luv Shekhawat, is one of the first forest lodges in southern Sariska and is 7km away from the Tehla Gate of the tiger reserve. It offers beautiful forest bungalows, stone cabins and Swiss tents with all creature comforts and is a pet-friendly property. For a luxe stay, head to Amanbagh (doubles from Rs74,000; website ) which is 27 km away from the same gate. Besides jeep drives, what else can you do in Sariska Tiger Reserve?

Sariska is surrounded by the Aravalli mountain range that turns lush green in the monsoon . “Besides natural wonders, Sariska is gifted with some man-made marvels like the Neelkanth Mahadev Temple, the Kankwari Fort and the Bhangarh Fort, all a short car ride away,” says Shekhawat. The Neelkanth Mahadev Temple dedicated to Lord Shiva is maintained by the ASI, and you can spot intricate carvings on its facade with restoration work in progress. In the surrounding area, a short walk away, find a stepwell (baori), as well as ancient ruins with a large sculpture of a Jain Tīrthaṅkara. The fascinating drive to the abandoned Kankwari Fort takes you through the forest, leading to animal sightings including a big cat if it is your lucky day. “We first enter the fort and check for leopards before letting guests in as they often come to this spot,” reveals Roderges. Once there, soak in a bird’s eye view of Sariska including the reserve and villages. If you fancy an experience laced with eeriness, drive down to Bhangarh Fort which is considered one of the most haunted spots in India with entry restrictions post-sunset. All these are easily accessible from the Tehla side. If you are on the other end, you can pay a visit to the Pandupol Hanuman Temple.

Exploring Routes to Reach Sariska Tiger Reserve in India

Nestled within Rajasthan's Alwar region, Sariska Tiger Reserve presents an enticing destination for wildlife enthusiasts. However, accessing this natural gem requires strategic planning due to its limited transport options. Here's a guide to help you navigate your journey:

Choosing the Road to Sariska:

Unfortunately, Sariska lacks convenient air or rail connections, making road travel, specifically by car, the most practical choice.

Reaching Sariska via Alwar Junction:

Alwar Junction stands as the nearest railway station to Sariska. Traveling from Delhi to Alwar Junction takes approximately three hours by train, while the journey from Jaipur takes about two hours. After arriving at Alwar Junction, you can readily find cabs stationed at the station, providing an hour-long ride to Sariska.

Smooth Train Booking with IRCTC:

For train reservations, the Indian Railway Catering and Tourism Corporation (IRCTC) website ( irctc.co.in ) offers user-friendly functionality. Unlike the conventional Indian Railway Central booking system, IRCTC allows same-day booking, albeit at a nominal premium.

Considering Private Taxi Options:

When train travel isn't your choice, consider a private taxi from New Delhi, resulting in about a four-hour drive to Sariska. Alternatively, departing from Jaipur entails a roughly two-and-a-half-hour journey.

Your Sariska Tiger Reserve adventure ensures distinctive nature encounters. Verify transportation options for a smooth journey.

Sariska Tiger Safari Timings: Making the Most of Your Visit

The timings for Sariska Tiger Safaris offer three options daily, available from May to October.

Morning Exploration:

Kickstart your day with the first safari departing around 6 am, ensuring an early rendezvous with wildlife wonders.

Afternoon Adventure:

Alternatively, opt for the afternoon safari at approximately 3:30 pm, granting you a chance to witness the reserve's charm under the gentle sun.

Duration and Planning:

Each safari extends for approximately three hours, demanding careful time allocation in your day's itinerary.

sariska tiger reserve safari

Timing Lessons from Fellow Travelers:

My friend and I embarked on a spontaneous trip to the reserve without checking the timings, a mistake we later regretted. We arrived around midday, facing the intense Indian summer heat.

Midday Dilemma:

Confronted with two options—returning in the morning and wasting a taxi ride, or enduring the heat—we opted for patience. Ticket sales only commenced promptly at 2 pm.

Learning from our experience, I advise you to carefully plan your Sariska Tiger Reserve visit, taking full advantage of the safari timings to savor the best of this wildlife haven.

Booking Your Sariska Tiger Reserve Safari: Tips and Options

Obtaining tickets for a Sariska Tiger Reserve Safari can present a bit of a challenge, particularly when attempting to secure them in advance.

Online Booking Convenience:

For a streamlined approach, consider utilizing the government's official website for reservations: https://fmdss.forest.rajasthan.gov.in/ . Booking through this portal offers both security and convenience, ensuring a hassle-free experience.

sariska tiger reserve safari

On-Site Booking:

Alternatively, if you prefer a more spontaneous approach, arriving at the reserve and purchasing your safari tickets directly from the ticket office is a feasible choice.

Essential Fees:

To fully enjoy your safari experience, remember to account for various fees including the park permit fee, jeep fee, and an additional photography fee, if you plan on capturing the memorable moments.

By exploring these booking options and understanding the associated fees, you can make a well-informed decision for your Sariska Tiger Reserve Safari adventure.

Sariska Tiger Reserve Safari Ticket Prices: Exploring Costs

When planning a Sariska Safari, understanding the ticket prices is crucial to managing your budget effectively.

Entrance Fees:

For foreign nationals, the entrance fee stands at 470 rupees , while Indian nationals are charged 80 rupees for the National Park entry. This covers the essential park entry fee.

Additional Charges:

In addition to the entry fee, you'll need to account for the jeep cost and potential fees for videography permits if required.

Breakdown of Prices:

Here's a comprehensive list of the prices to anticipate:

  • Entry Fee for Foreign Nationals: 470 rupees
  • Entry Fee for Indian Nationals: 80 rupees
  • Canter Cost (shared with 20 people): 400 rupees
  • Gypsy Jeep Cost (shared with 6 people): 600 rupees
  • Videography Permit: 400 rupees

Planning Considerations:

Remember to keep some extra cash on hand to tip your guide and driver, ensuring you have a well-rounded and appreciative safari experience.

Being well-versed in these ticket prices empowers you to plan your Sariska Tiger Reserve Safari with transparency and financial confidence.

Exploring Sariska's Jeep Options: Gypsy and Canter Choices

When embarking on a Sariska Tiger Reserve Safari, you're presented with two distinct vehicle choices: the Gypsy and the Canter.

The Gypsy Experience:

Opt for the Gypsy, an open-air 4x4 vehicle that accommodates up to 6 passengers . While a pricier choice at around 600 rupees per person , it offers an intimate safari experience. Should you wish to reserve the entire jeep for yourself, the cost totals 6500 rupees . Most visitors opt to share the ride with fellow explorers, reducing costs. Your initial payment at the ticket counter, along with additional fees settled directly with the guide after the tour, amounts to an economical total of around 1200 rupees.

Choosing the Canter:

If budget-consciousness is your priority, the canter presents a more affordable alternative at 400 rupees. This spacious, open-air vehicle accommodates around 20 passengers . Opting for the canter translates to an approximate total of 1000 rupees.

Photography and Videography Fees:

It's important to note that the safari now includes additional photography and videography fees. Videography costs 400 rupees per foreigner.

By understanding these options, you can tailor your Sariska Tiger Reserve Safari to match your preferences and budget, ensuring a memorable wildlife encounter.

Gypsy vs. Canter: Maximizing Your Tiger Spotting Chances

When it comes to enhancing your likelihood of encountering a tiger, the Gypsy takes the lead from my personal perspective.

While the Gypsy might come with a slightly higher price tag, its agility is worth the investment. Capable of navigating through dense vegetation and venturing off the conventional paths, the Gypsy accesses secluded areas where tigers may be concealed.

In contrast, the canter resembles a sizable bus, limited to major routes. Maneuverability is compromised, hindering the chase if a tiger is glimpsed. This results in a diminished chance of spotting these majestic creatures.

Though the Gypsy entails a little extra expenditure, its versatility far outweighs the cost. Opting for the Gypsy promises an experience marked by flexibility, increasing your prospects of tiger sightings.

Private Vehicle Entry to Sariska National Park: Weekend Option

Indeed, private vehicles are granted access to the park, but this privilege is limited to Saturdays, and it comes with certain conditions.

Entry on Saturdays:

On Saturdays, private vehicles can enter the park upon payment of a fee amounting to 250 rupees.

Restrictions and Destination:

However, it's important to note that the allowance comes with restrictions. Private vehicles are confined to a designated 20-kilometer strip, leading to a temple located within the park.

Road Conditions:

As you venture into the park, be prepared for a somewhat rugged road. Ensuring that your vehicle is equipped to handle the bumpy terrain is essential for a smooth journey.

Taking your own vehicle on this limited route offers a unique opportunity to explore the park at your pace and access specific attractions. Just remember to assess your vehicle's capability before embarking on this adventure.

What to Anticipate on a Sariska Tiger Reserve Safari

Your assigned guide's name is typically indicated at the top of your ticket. Guides commonly assemble near the ticket office before departure time. Ensure you're aware of the vehicle you'll be riding in before your departure. If you require aid, don't hesitate to approach anyone nearby—they'll gladly assist you. If you've opted for the Gypsy, you'll share the ride with 5 others. Once everyone is settled, your expedition to the reserve will commence.

Sariska National Park's Diverse Wildlife

On your Sariska Tiger Reserve Safari, you'll join a convoy of vehicles departing together, each heading to different areas to respect wildlife tranquility. This dispersal ensures an intimate safari experience.

An advantageous aspect of this arrangement is that guides maintain communication via radio. Thus, if a tiger sighting occurs, your driver can navigate the group to that very spot.

Within the captivating Sariska Jungle, a variety of vibrant wildlife roams freely across the reserve. Our journey treated us to sightings of wild boars, deer, monkeys, and even a delightful peacock dance.

So, you want to go on a cheap tiger safari in Rajasthan on your trip to India?

Well, if you’ve done any research so far, you’ll probably find see that these don’t come cheap.

Ranthambore in Rajasthan, the most popular due to its dense tiger population, could cost you hundreds of pounds for a safari package. But please, don’t despair!

You don’t need all that money. Don’t cross it off your list just yet. I’m here to tell you that it is possible to do a tiger safari on the cheap in India!

Where do I hear you cry? Well, there’s a little-known secret in off the beaten track Rajasthan; Sariska.

This is the ULTIMATE guide for taking a Sariska Tiger Reserve Safari in Alwar, Rajasthan.

SARISKA TIGER SAFARI

How to reach the Sariska Tiger Reserve in India

Sariska is based in the Indian state of Rajasthan in the Alwar region.

Unfortunately, Sariska is not easily accessible by plane or train so you’ll have to go in a car.

The nearest train station to Sariska is Alwar Junction. This is around a three-hour train ride from Delhi or two hours from Jaipur .

If you alight here, you can catch a cab directly from the station and it will take you around an hour. A great website for booking Indian train tickets is cleartrip.com .

They provide easy functionality and, unlike the IRCTC (Indian Railway Central booking system), they allow you to book train tickets on the same day!

They do charge a small premium, but if anything saves me from wanting to rip my hair out when booking an Indian rail ticket – I’ll happily pay it.

If you didn’t fancy the train, you can also hire a private taxi directly from New Delhi which will take you around four hours. From Jaipur, it’s around two and a half hours.

SARISKA TIGER RESERVE SAFARI GUIDE

Sariska Tiger Reserve Safari times

The Sariska Tiger Safari times are three times per day from May to October.

The safaris run once in the morning at around 6 am and then again around 3.30 pm in the afternoon.

Safaris run for around three hours at a time! So make sure you plan enough time in your day.

As this was a last-minute decision for us, my friend and I headed to the reserve without really checking the timings. I know, rookie traveller error!

We ended up making a fatal mistake and arrived at the tiger reserve around midday. The midday heat in India summer is tough and the heat was intense.

We had two choices, we either came back in the morning and wasted a taxi ride or wait it out. They didn’t start selling tickets until 2pm on the dot.

How to book a Sariska Tiger Reserve Safari

To get tickets for a Sariska Tiger Reserve Safari, it’s quite a task to book in advance.

There is an option to book online but I wouldn’t necessarily say that’s the safest option.

So, it’s better to turn up on the day and book your safari directly at the ticket office in Sariska.

You’ll need to pay a park permit fee, a jeep fee, and a photography fee if you want to take a safari.

Sariska Tiger Reserve Safari ticket prices

Tickets for a Sariska Safari are 470 rupees per foreigner and 80 rupees for Indian nationals. This is just for the National Park entry fee.

You will then have to pay extra for your jeep and some fees for your videography permits if you need one.

Here’s a list of prices;

  • Entry Fee Foreign Nationals – 470 rupees
  • Entry Fee Indian Nationals – 800 rupees
  • Cost for the Canter (sharing with 20 people) – 400 rupees
  • Cost for the Gypsy Jeep (sharing with 6 people) – 600 rupees
  • Videography – 400 rupees

Make sure to keep some extra cash spare to tip your guide and driver too!

Sariska Jeep types

There were two choices of vehicle for the Sariska Tiger Reserve Safari, the Gypsy or the Canter.

The Gypsy is an open-air 4×4 and can take up to 6 people at a time. This is the more expensive option at around 600 rupees per person.

If you want to hire the whole jeep for yourself, the cost will be 6500 rupees. So, most of the time you share with others to keep the costs low!

You initially pay this to the ticket counter, then you pay some fees directly to the guide after the tour. The total comes to around 1200 rupees. Cheap as chips!

The canter is an even cheaper option at 400 rupees and a massive open-air vehicle which is higher and takes around 20ish people at a time. So, you’re total would be around 1000 rupees if you chose this option.

They also have introduced some photography/videography fees to the safari now. Videography is 400 rupees per foreigner.

Gypsy vs. the Canter

Personally, for your best chances of spotting a tiger, I would recommend the Gypsy.

It may be more expensive, but the Gypsy can weave in and out of the jungle and reach the off-the-beaten-track places the tiger may be hiding in. It’s pictured below (yes, I did get the cheesy hat!).

The canter is more like a huge bus that can only stick to larger roads. It can’t weave in and out of the brush if you happen to spot a tiger and chase it. So, you have a lesser chance of spotting one this way.

Spend a little extra and get the Gypsy, you won’t regret it!

SARISKA TIGER RESERVE SAFARI

Can private vehicles enter Sariska National Park?

YES! Private vehicles are allowed to enter the park on a Saturday at the cost of 250 rupees.

But, you’re only allowed on 20 kilometre strip to head to a temple inside the park. The road is quite bumpy, so make sure your car can handle it!

If you get stuck waiting for tickets…

We made the decision to look in their information centre but that lasted around 10 minutes, so we headed to their cafe.

Unfortunately, the cafe was out in the open and almost resembled a cage with a few slow fans unsuccessfully stopping the heat. It was just too hot to wait around that long in the sun.

Hopefully, after reading this, you won’t make the same mistake. But, if you do find yourself in Sariska with nowhere to go before your safari I would highly recommend a visit to the Sariska Palace opposite.

Although its ‘Fusion’ restaurant is something which looks like it belongs in the ’70s, it has air conditioning and a beer! Sweet salvation.

They say you need to pay some money to go in, but if you’re going to dine in the restaurant they don’t charge you.

We were first in line for the safari tickets, which was great as we had heard they were limited. So, make sure you get into the queue around 10 minutes before the ticket booth officially opens.

I could tell that the ticket sellers were thrilled with their jobs as they got ready to sell to the crowd forming. I, myself, didn’t help by pushing my face into the window but it was hot and I just wanted a ticket after that long wait.

SARISKA PALACE

What to expect on a Sariska Tiger Reserve Safari

On your ticket, you should see your guide name at the top. The tour guides usually gather by the ticket office before it’s time to take off.

Make sure you know what car you’ll be sitting in before you’re due to leave.

Don’t worry, if you need assistance just ask anyone who’s around, they will be able to help you out You’ll be joined with 5 others if you’re taking the gypsy and once you’re all loaded in, you’ll start your journey to the reserve.

Warning: it is an open-top vehicle and you will be in the direct sunlight for a good three hours. Make sure you wear good sun protection, keep hydrated, and keep your head covered to avoid sunstroke.

SARISKA TIGER RESERVE SAFARI

What animals can you see in Sariska National Park?

There will be many vehicles on your Sariska Tiger Reserve Safari that will set off at the same time to take tourists around the reserve.

To avoid disturbing the wildlife, they all spread out to explore the different areas and so you still feel like you have an exclusive safari experience.

The great thing about this is that the guides all radio into each other, so if they spot a tiger – your driver can navigate to the same spot!

The Sariska Jungle is incredibly beautiful and boasts some vibrant wildlife who roam free amongst the reserve.

During our journey, we saw wild boars, deer, monkeys, and even a peacock dance!

SARISKA TIGER SAFARI

Spotting a tiger on a Sariska Tiger Reserve Safari

Time was running out, it was nearing sunset at 6 pm when we were due to head back to the ticket desk. I had all but given up any hope of seeing a tiger.

Then, our driver stopped the gypsy and told us to keep silent so he could listen out for tiger noises.

My friend and I looked at each other trying not to laugh, surely he was just putting this on for effect? But then, the birds started making a warning call.

The next minute, we heard a tiger roar! Our driver didn’t waste any time, he slammed his foot on the pedal and we zoomed off in the hope of seeing it.

It was one of the scariest yet thrilling rides I had experienced in my life.

I was holding onto the frame of the gypsy so tight. The driver certainly had skill!

It created some serious adrenalin as we quickened the chase. Then, behind the bushes in the jungle we finally saw what we were looking for; a beautiful orange and black striped Bengal tigress!

SARISKA TIGER

The jeep pulled up only around 10 metres away from it. Yes, we were that close.

We were told to be quiet. I remember gasping when I got my first glimpse and the tigress looked right at me.

She had what she caught for dinner in her mouth with the tail hanging out, probably the poor bird that made the warning call.

It was so awesome looking into her eyes. Such a powerful force. Before she had a chance to get any closer, I quickly took a snap.

She started moving toward the jeeps so we backed up and made our way around for a different view. But, by that time she had disappeared off into the jungle.

It was an incredible experience to see a tiger in the wild and it just goes to show that the guides at Sariska are passionate about what they do.

They could have headed back when time ran out, but they carried on to let us experience it.

What are the chances of seeing a tiger on a Sariska Tiger Reserve Safari?

Now, I’m not going to lie to you. The odds are against you.

When I was googling Lonely Planet to find out more about it, it pretty much told me that my chances of seeing a tiger here were next to none.

In fact, my chances of seeing a unicorn were more likely than spotting a tiger in Sariska Tiger Reserve.

It’s a massive reserve at 866km squared and a tiger population of 13.

But, as you can see, it is completely possible to see a tiger in India on the cheap! So, what have you got to lose?

SARISKA TIGER

Where to stay near Sariska Tiger Reserve

As I was visiting Alwar nearby, we decided to stay in the incredible Hill Fort Kesroli which was around 30 kilometres away.

This is a Neemrana Hotels property and they transform old palaces and heritage buildings into fully functioning hotels!

Hill Fort Kesroli dates back to the 14th century which makes it one of the oldest heritage sites in India!

It was originally built by Yaduvanshi Rajputs, who claim they are direct descendants of Lord Krishna! But, later converted to Islam in the mid-14th century to be called Khanzadas.

It was honestly an incredible feeling to wake up in the fort each day and look over the Rajasthan countryside.

If you would like to take your chances at seeing a tiger in India but don’t want to part with the cash, Sariska is definitely your ticket.

Spotting a tiger in the wild is always a game of chance, whether you spend the big bucks or not. It really is down to the luck on the day and whether the tigers want to come out to play!

Although we got lucky, I would still recommend visiting the reserve for the fantastic wildlife that resides there.

The tour guides at Sariska are truly passionate about what they do and will ensure you have a fantastic experience. Give it a shot!

Jungle Safari in Sariska Tiger Reserve

Safari in Sariska Tiger Reserve: Call of the wild

The alarm had already rung thrice but the warmth of quilts and pin drop silence was not letting us step out of our beds.  At the back of mind, I imagined black and yellow striped big cat crossing in real and that excitement finally pushed me out of bed. I pulled the curtain to see out, it was still pitch dark, mist was hiding the dense beauty of jungle and there was hardly anything visible beyond 1 meter. There; I woke Tashi up and asked, are you sure we are going for Jeep Safari in Sariska Tiger Reserve . I doubt they will take us in so much fog and we will see the ferocious beautiful big cat – Tiger.

Jungle Safari in Sariska Tiger Reserve

Without further discussion we stepped out to buy the safari tickets. The counter opened at 6:00 am and we were the first ones at window counter. Jeeps and canters were already lined up for 7:00 am Safari, with their engines on; and the guides were sipping tea gathered around the bonfires. Next 5 minutes we got our tickets with guide name Mr. Ramesh mentioned on it. We met him there and he directed us to be ready, outside our Hotel The Tiger Den .

Jeep Safari in Sariska Tiger Reserve

By 7:00am, darkness had already lifted; and an open jeep was standing at our gate. We jumped in with the excitement each occupying the corner seats as the whole gypsy belonged to us but then got to know three more members had to fit in from our Hotel itself . Like a child, I asked Ramesh, will we see tiger today. He turned, glared at me and with a small smile answered – Hanji, mam jaroor dikahega (Yes! Mam for sure you will see it). That raised my hopes and I crossed my fingers. We left in next 5 minutes and reached Gate No.1. After getting our tickets checked, we entered the Sariska Tiger Reserve.

The Jungle appeared much darker and quite inside. Dusty trails had the tires prints marked on it and some animal paws prints too. The sun rays started filtering out from the leaves shading the sky and jungle in the golden hues. Peacock started chanting and came out from the bushes on the trail.

Peacock at Sariska Tiger Reserve - National Park, India

I shouted with the excitement, whereas everyone’s camera’s started making a “ click” “click ” noise. Not one but group of peacock and peahen crossed the trail completely nonchalantly, after all it was her territory and we were the aliens.

Quail at Sariska National Park- Sariska Tiger Reserve

On the other side, we saw Quail , sitting together in a group of four, guessing the way to fight winters and stay warm. Nilgai / Blue Bull a bit far was raising her neck to find some food over the branches, but coexisted beautifully in the surrounding. After the continuous up and down trail, we saw a huge pond in the middle of the trail which used to be tiger shooting spot by kings, which made us clear the reserve area was never free from human settlements.

Few meters ahead, we saw spotted deer/ Chital , hovering over the bushes and a herd of Sambhar moving in line towards the another pond for some morning drink. The dusky sky with sun-rays plunging from it was making the Sariska Tiger reserve look extraordinary. Seeing all the natural habitat I actually forgot about the tiger.

Spotted Deer at Sariska National Park - Sariska Tiger Reserve

And it was already half time, we had reached the check post diverging into three ways one from where we entered and the other to Tehla and Pandu Pul/ Pandupol . The check post inside was more of a devastated museum, with some skulls on the display. Seeing the gypsies sanding there, we realized it’s not only us, but several jungle lovers are on the go. And none of them had spotted the big cat till now.

Checkpost at Sariska Tiger Reserve

In the mean-time folk of Rufous Treepie, the cousin of Magpie had already found its branches on the jeep. We must say they are one of the super friendly beautiful birds.

https://www.instagram.com/p/BgRbZi9gmsN/?taken-by=suruchimittal

From there, we hopped back to the jeep and started towards another pond or Kankwari lake. On the way we observed the activities of Langurs , Wild Boars , and Rhesus Monkeys . The Kankwari lake just beneath the Kankwari Fort, situated on the hilltop. Half of the pond had dried up and the rest had some Stork birds, peacock and crocodiles were quenching their thirst.

The best is, that on Tuesdays and Saturdays one can drive inside the Sariska Tiger Reserve, till Pandupol by his/her own vehicle by just paying Rs. 250/- at Sariska Gate or Tehla Gate. We did another trip around 12 in our vehicle and took exit through Tehla Gate, further heading to haunted Bhangarh Fort .

How to Book Sariska Tiger Reserve Safari

The Safari can be booked online at http://fmdss.forest.rajasthan.gov.in/ or the ticket can be purchased at the window counter. We recommend to book it online to avoid Queue as well unnecessary hassles. Even after online booking, you need to go to the window counter to get a hard copy and to know your vehicle and guide.

While Booking online there are Routes option, select Rout 1 and 3 as the probability of spotting a tiger is bit high in these areas. We selected Route 1, still couldn’t spot it.

Accommodation

There are multiple stay options in Sariska Tiger Reserve ranging from guest houses, tents, government guest houses to luxurious hotels.

We stayed at Hotel Tiger Den , the government property managed by RTDC (Rajasthan Tourism Development Corporation).  It lies just 500 meters from the Sariska Tiger Reserve entry gate and costs around Rs.3500/- per night including food.  You can book it from here .

Overall Experience of Safari at  Sariska Tiger Reserve

The Sariska Tiger Reserve is a perfect weekend getaway for wildlife & bird lovers and nature enthusiast. We  feel it is more of a wildlife reserve than the Tiger Reserve. Although, we couldn’t see the striped beast there but the overall experience was amazing.

Interesting Fact:  At Sariska Tiger Reserve, there are only 14 tigers and more than 1 Lakh Peacock.

Our advice is – Don’t go with expectation to spot Tiger only. It’s a rare chance to spot the beast. People/ Wildlife photographers either might have been too lucky or must have spent many days there to capture them.

19th Edition of Global Conference on Catalysis, Chemical Engineering & Technology

Victor Mukhin

  • Scientific Program

Victor Mukhin, Speaker at Chemical Engineering Conferences

Title : Active carbons as nanoporous materials for solving of environmental problems

However, up to now, the main carriers of catalytic additives have been mineral sorbents: silica gels, alumogels. This is obviously due to the fact that they consist of pure homogeneous components SiO2 and Al2O3, respectively. It is generally known that impurities, especially the ash elements, are catalytic poisons that reduce the effectiveness of the catalyst. Therefore, carbon sorbents with 5-15% by weight of ash elements in their composition are not used in the above mentioned technologies. However, in such an important field as a gas-mask technique, carbon sorbents (active carbons) are carriers of catalytic additives, providing effective protection of a person against any types of potent poisonous substances (PPS). In ESPE “JSC "Neorganika" there has been developed the technology of unique ashless spherical carbon carrier-catalysts by the method of liquid forming of furfural copolymers with subsequent gas-vapor activation, brand PAC. Active carbons PAC have 100% qualitative characteristics of the three main properties of carbon sorbents: strength - 100%, the proportion of sorbing pores in the pore space – 100%, purity - 100% (ash content is close to zero). A particularly outstanding feature of active PAC carbons is their uniquely high mechanical compressive strength of 740 ± 40 MPa, which is 3-7 times larger than that of  such materials as granite, quartzite, electric coal, and is comparable to the value for cast iron - 400-1000 MPa. This allows the PAC to operate under severe conditions in moving and fluidized beds.  Obviously, it is time to actively develop catalysts based on PAC sorbents for oil refining, petrochemicals, gas processing and various technologies of organic synthesis.

Victor M. Mukhin was born in 1946 in the town of Orsk, Russia. In 1970 he graduated the Technological Institute in Leningrad. Victor M. Mukhin was directed to work to the scientific-industrial organization "Neorganika" (Elektrostal, Moscow region) where he is working during 47 years, at present as the head of the laboratory of carbon sorbents.     Victor M. Mukhin defended a Ph. D. thesis and a doctoral thesis at the Mendeleev University of Chemical Technology of Russia (in 1979 and 1997 accordingly). Professor of Mendeleev University of Chemical Technology of Russia. Scientific interests: production, investigation and application of active carbons, technological and ecological carbon-adsorptive processes, environmental protection, production of ecologically clean food.
