2 dead, including child, in crash involving Texas school bus that lacked seatbelts

Two people, including a child, were killed and at least 10 others were injured when a school bus without seatbelts and filled with pre-K students crashed in rural Texas on Friday, authorities said.

They were killed when the bus and a concrete truck collided along State Highway 21 about 50 miles east of Austin, said Texas Department of Public Safety Sgt. Deon Cockrell.

A boy on the bus was killed, and the other victim was in a Dodge Charger that had been following the bus when it was hit by the oncoming concrete truck, he said.

Alejandro Anaya said he was working nearby when the crash happened and he rushed to the bus to help.

“What I saw was all the kids covered in blood, crying, trying to get out,” he said.

Four of those injured were taken to hospitals by helicopter and in critical condition, said Kevin Parker, a commander at Austin-Travis County EMS. Six others taken to hospitals by ground ambulance had potentially serious injuries, he said.

Officials said there were additional patients with minor injuries taken to hospitals, but they didn’t have an exact count. St. David’s South Austin Medical Center said it treated 11 patients, including two in fair condition who remained in the hospital Saturday, and one who was transferred to another facility.

The bus was carrying Tom Green Elementary pre-K students returning from a field trip to the Capital of Texas Zoo in Cedar Creek, about 22 miles southeast of Austin, the Hays Consolidated Independent School District has said.

It said 44 students and 11 adults were on the bus.

The school’s principal, Jennifer Hanna, said in a letter Saturday that three staff members and two students remained hospitalized.

Two staff members face “extensive” recovery, and one was expected to be released soon, Hanna said. The hospitalized students “appear to be doing well and remain primarily for observation prior to their anticipated releases in the near future,” she said.

Angelica Campos and her 5-year-old daughter, Caliana, walked away from the crash Friday. They appeared physically uninjured.

“We, like, rolled on the bus,” Caliana said, her father, Hector, adding that his daughter closed her eyes to avoid airborne shards of glass.

Angelica Campos said, “I spent the day with all those kids. It’s just heartbreaking.”

The school, which is in the Austin suburb of Buda, will be closed on Monday, she said, but counseling would be available on campus through early evening as needed.

District Superintendent Eric Wright addressed the student’s death in a letter to family, students and staff Friday: “There are no words that can express my sorrow for the student’s family, the Tom Green Elementary School family, and our greater Hays CISD community.”

The district said in a statement that 2011-model bus involved in the crash was one of 40 in the district’s fleet of roughly 200 buses that lacked seatbelts, which is not uncommon for such vehicles.

School buses from model years 2018 and later must have seatbelts under state law. The statement said seatbelts were a likely topic for its purchasing oversight committee, which could weigh accelerating the acquisition of new buses.

“The district hopes that the DPS accident reconstruction investigation will be able to provide more information about whether a seatbelt may have made a difference for the student who died in the accident, but at this time we just don’t know that answer,” it said.

Cockrell said state traffic investigators were investigating the cause of the accident, including why the concrete truck appeared to veer into oncoming traffic. The bus rolled over, authorities said.

The Texas Department of Public Safety is leading the investigation.

On Saturday, Hanna said in her letter that the district was still trying to contact the families of nine students in order to update them with the latest news on the crash.

Gov. Greg Abbott said he and his wife, Cecilia Abbott, were saddened to hear about what happened, and he talked with the district’s superintendent “and offered the state’s full support as they help their community through this tragedy.”

U.S. Sen. John Cornyn, R-Texas, said he’s praying for those who lost loved ones in the crash. “I am shocked and deeply saddened to hear about the school bus accident in Bastrop County today,”  he said on social media platform X .

3 dead, 15 injured in crash between charter bus with high schoolers and semi-truck in Ohio

ETNA, Ohio – Three people are dead and 15 others injured after a charter bus carrying high school students and a semi-truck crashed on a highway in Ohio.

Tuscarawas Valley Local Schools, an Ohio school district in Zoarville, said late Tuesday morning that the bus was carrying students and chaperones, and that there may have been "serious injuries" among those on board.

Ohio State Highway Patrol Lt. Nate Dennis said the crash involved five vehicles, and 18 people were taken from the bus.

Around 8:45 a.m. Tuesday, dozens of emergency personnel from across Licking County and eastern Franklin County were dispatched to the area on a report of a crash.

Derek Varansky, superintendent for Tuscarawas Valley, said on Facebook that "a charter bus carrying Tusky Valley students and chaperones on the way to the Ohio School Boards Association conference in Columbus was involved in a very serious accident."

"We understand from law enforcement that there may be multiple serious injuries and we are working to learn the details," Varansky wrote. "Right now, our focus is on getting in touch with our Tusky Valley families who had loved ones on the bus and providing support to our entire school community."

'Sick to my stomach': Tuscarawas Valley school students, chaperones on bus

A steady stream of vehicles pulled into the Tuscarawas Valley Middle-High School parking lot Tuesday morning, as parents came to pick up their grief-stricken children. Staff members came to the vehicles, conferred with the drivers and then went back into the school to retrieve their children.

"I'm sick. I'm sick to my stomach," parent Laurie Fragasse said when she picked up her daughter Camrynn just before noon.

Camrynn, an eighth grader, said she was scared and sad.

"I don't really know how to feel right now," she said.

Governor of Ohio: 'This is our worst nightmare'

During a Tuesday news conference at a rest stop, Ohio Gov. Mike DeWine said his prayers go out to all involved in the crash and their families.

“This is our worst nightmare when we have a bus full of children involved in a crash and certainly the worst nightmare families can endure or a school can endure," DeWine said.

Conference canceled in light of tragedy

The students were headed to the the Ohio School Board Association annual convention held in Columbus. The event, which was held from Nov. 12 through 14, features speakers, a trade show and a student success exposition, according to the OSBA website. The remainder of the event was cancelled Tuesday, an OSBA spokesperson said.

"Given this devastating news, we have canceled our conference," an OSBA statement read. "Right now, our focus is on providing support to Tuscarawas Valley. That includes making grief counselors from our trade show available."

Tusky Valley families begin gathering at Etna relief site

By 2 p.m., almost all of the students not transported to the hospital had been reunified with their students at the Etna United Methodist Church. In total, 34 students were taken there after the crash, said Don Hawkins, regional communications manager for the Red Cross of Central and Southern Ohio, which Licking County Emergency Management contacted for help.

“Whenever something like this happens, we work with local EMA to assist them. We don’t try to take over the operation,” Hawkins said.

Mount Carmel East hospital also requested and received 30 extra units of blood, he added.

“It’s heavy; it’s really heavy. It really hurts to see this happen to anyone, to kids … especially at the holiday season,” Hawkins said. “Families are going to be devastated. Our hearts go out to them. Three families are going to feel that forever. It hurts.”

Bus company cooperating with investigators in mass casualty incident

The bus involved in the crash is from Pioneer Trails, a family-owned bus business based in Millersburg, Ohio. In a statement on Facebook, Pioneer Trails "is fully cooperating with the authorities as we work to find the cause of the accident" and sends prayers to the victims and their families.

According to U.S. Department of Transportation inspections, the company has had one other crash involving an injury in the past 24 months. The company received a satisfactory rating, meaning records indicate no evidence of substantial noncompliance with safety requirements.

Dispatchers classified the crash as a "mass casualty incident, level 3," which indicates 10 or more people may have been injured and there was a need for paramedics, fire crews and hospital readiness across the region. Casualty does not necessarily mean fatalities in the way it is used by dispatchers.

A charter bus carrying students from a high school was rear-ended by a semi-truck on an Ohio highway Tuesday morning, leaving three people dead and 15 others injured, according to an emergency official.

The charter bus was transporting students from the Tuscarawas Valley Local School District in eastern Ohio, Licking County Emergency Management Agency Director Sean Grady said.

There were a total of 57 people onboard, he said.

The bus was carrying Tuscarawas Valley students and chaperones to an Ohio School Boards Association conference in Columbus, Superintendent Derek Varansky said.

“Right now, our focus is on getting in touch with our Tusky Valley families who had loved ones on the bus and providing support to our entire school community,” Varansky said in a Facebook post.

Three people dead and 15 others injured after a deadly crash on an Ohio highway, according to emergency officials.

The accident occurred shortly before 9 a.m. on Interstate 70 West in Licking County, near the Smoke Road underpass and about 26 miles (42 kilometers) east of Columbus.

The cause was not immediately known.

The injured were being treated at five hospitals.

Of the 57 people that were onboard the charter bus, three people were killed and 15 others were injured.

The American Red Cross of Central and Southern Ohio said it fulfilled a request for more blood from one hospital in the area, sending 30 units to a hospital in the Mount Carmel Health System, said Marita Salkowski, regional communications director.

A center was set up at a United Methodist Church in Etna for bus passengers not in need of medical attention to go to and contact loved ones, she said.

Numerous emergency responders were at the scene, and Ohio Department of Transportation cameras from the area showed smoke coming from the crash site.

The cause of the crash was not immediately known.

The highway was closed in both directions and numerous traffic delays were being reported.

Mickey Lymon, an investigator with the Licking County Coroner’s Office, said they had been called to the scene, but deferred other questions to the state police.

Bus carrying high school students to band camp crashes, killing 2 adults

Emergency responders work the scene of a fatal bus crash, in Wawayanda, N.Y., Thursday, Sept. 21, 2023.

MIDDLETOWN, N.Y. — A charter bus carrying high school students to a band camp veered off a New York highway and tumbled down an embankment Thursday, killing two adults and seriously injuring several others, officials said.

The bus was one of six in a caravan taking the marching band, color guard and dancers from Farmingdale High School on Long Island on a beloved annual trip to a camp in Greeley, in northeastern Pennsylvania.

It was only about 30 minutes from its destination when the wreck happened a little after 1 p.m. on Interstate 84 in the town of Wawayanda, about 45 miles (72 kilometers) northwest of New York City.

A tire failure may have been to blame for the bus going off the road, Gov. Kathy Hochul said.

The two adults who died were the high school's band director, Gina Pellettiere, 43, of Massapequa, and a retired teacher Beatrice Ferrari, 77, of Farmingdale.

Five of the 44 passengers on board were hospitalized in critical condition, according to state police.

Farmingdale student Anthony Eugenio, 15, was asleep on the bus when he felt a thud and awoke to what he thought was a dream or nightmare. The bus felt as if it was tipping. Then he felt himself tumbling — how many times he can't recall — as he tried to pull his sweatshirt hood from over his eyes.

"Then everyone was yelling," he said. "The kid next to me was covered in blood. I saw blood everywhere."

He crawled out of the overturned bus through a window, dazed but only scraped and bruised. Once outside, he found his backpack, which had been thrown from the wreck, and his missing shoe.

News helicopter footage showed tire tracks on the roadway and a path of ripped-up grass and shrubs on the embankment. Hochul said the bus tumbled 50 feet down the steep slope in a wide median between the eastbound and westbound lanes of the highway. The bus came to rest on its left side, its roof warped. A ladder allowed rescuers to reach the windows.

A September trip to band camp is an annual tradition at the suburban high school, which has around 1,700 students. Members of the band, color guard and the school's kick line team attend, as well as adult chaperones. During some years, more than 300 students have gone on the trip to rehearse and have fun in rural Pennsylvania.

The bus crashed about 30 miles (48 kilometers) away from the Pine Forest Camp, where the students were headed.

Many of the 40 students on the bus were freshmen, Hochul said. "They endured. They were strong," she said.

Students on the other buses returned to Long Island hours after the crash. Six area hospitals treated the injured.

Anthony Eugenio, who spoke to The Associated Press from a car as his mother drove him home, said his thought as the bus turned over and over was "This can't be real."

Bruce Blakeman, the county executive in Nassau County, where Farmingdale High School is located, asked that people please "pray for the injured."

Students Among 9 Dead As Kerala School Trip Bus Collides With Another Bus

Kerala accident: five school students were among the nine killed in the bus collision in palakkad district..

Kerala bus accident: Around 40 people were also injured in the crash, police said.

Nine people, including five students, were killed after a private tourist bus hit a state-run KSRTC bus from behind at Vadakkenchery in Kerala's Palakkad, Kerala Road Transport Minister Antony Raju said on Thursday.

The minister said the accident occurred around 11.30 PM on Wednesday when the private bus, which was travelling at a high speed, while attempting to overtake a car, hit the rear end of a Kerala State Road Transport Corporation (KSRTC) bus.

"Both the buses went off the road as a result. Nine persons, including five students and a teacher, were killed in the accident," he told the media.

The minister also said that the preliminary view was that the accident occurred due to the high speed of the private bus and the negligence of its driver.

He said the KSRTC bus was going from Kottarakkara in Kerala to Coimbatore in Tamil Nadu and had 81 passengers, of whom three died in the accident.

The private bus was carrying 42 students and 5 teachers of Baselios Vidyanikethan Senior Secondary School in Ernakulam, who were on a pleasure trip.

State Local Self Government Minister M B Rajesh, who visited the hospital in Palakkad where the injured were admitted, told reporters that four of them were in serious condition, but the rest were fine.

Meanwhile, state Revenue Minister K Rajan told the media that everyone was in shock regarding what happened.

He said there will be an investigation to ascertain how and why the accident happened and strict measures would be needed to be put in place for preventing such incidents in the future.

Mr Rajan said a cabinet meeting will be held to consider providing compensation to the families who lost loved ones in the accident and that counselling may have to be provided to the students who lost close friends and a teacher in the tragic incident.

One of the students told a TV channel that the private bus was going at a very high speed and then rammed into the rear right side of the KSRTC bus and then toppled over.

"There was blood everywhere. We do not know what has happened to some of our friends and teachers who were in bad shape," he said, breaking into tears.

Another student said that she was watching a film when the accident occurred and someone landed on top of her as the bus toppled over.

"Someone pulled me and another girl out from the bus. But the girl sitting close to me could not be pulled out until much later," she said.

Driver cited for school bus crash that hurt 8 students in Burke County

BURKE COUNTY, N.C. — Eight students were hurt and a bus monitor was flown to the hospital following a school bus crash in Burke County Tuesday morning, according to the North Carolina State Highway Patrol.

It happened around 7:30 a.m. on Old North Carolina Highway 10 near Johnson Bridge Road. The area is south of the town of Hildebran.

Troopers said the bus was traveling west on Johnson Bridge Road when the driver overcorrected and lost control, running off the right side of the road. The bus struck a drainage ditch and flipped, coming to rest on its top, according to troopers.

Eight out of nine students on the bus were hospitalized for various injuries, along with the driver.

Troopers said a bus monitor was thrown from the bus and then pinned in the emergency exit door. They were flown to Atrium Health Carolinas Medical Center in serious condition.

“When you hear it on the radio, it’s just heartbreaking. You initially think the worst,” said Burke County Sgt. Daniel Wakefield. “Of course, we did have the monitor on the school bus was partially ejected through the exit hatch on the top of the bus. So you think the worst, and try to get here has fast as you can to see if you can help.”

Channel 9′s Dave Faherty spoke with other drivers who stopped to help the children in need, including one who was in a wheelchair.

“We just tried to get the ones that we could out, and there was one who was actually pinned in, and we had to get the wrecker here to pick the bus up. It was just scary. Seeing kids like that hurt and not being able to do anything about it,” Wes Ingle said.

The driver of the bus was cited for failure to maintain lane control.

The bus operates as handicapped transportation and services multiple schools in the Burke County school district, according to troopers. The students who were onboard use wheelchairs or need other assistance.

The nine children on board attend two high schools in eastern Burke County and Hallyburton Academy. The superintendent said most of the children’s injuries were “bumps and bruises.”

Silas Jourdan lives nearby and hopes everyone recovers quickly.

“I couldn’t imagine how it happened, how it run off the road like that, but apparently it did,” he said.

Faherty reached out to the school district to find out if the driver will be allowed to continue working there.

Driver cited in rollover Burke Co. school bus crash has speeding history

Officials: 9 students hurt, adult airlifted in rollover crash.

HILDEBRAN, N.C. (WBTV) — Nine students, a bus driver, and a bus monitor were hurt during a bus crash in Burke County Tuesday morning, according to school officials and highway patrol.

Troopers say the nine children and driver were taken to various hospitals with ‘non-life-threatening’ injuries. The bus monitor became partially entrapped in the bus and was airlifted with serious injuries to Atrium Health Carolinas Medical Center in Charlotte, reports stated.

At about noon, school officials reported that all the students and the driver had been released from the hospitals they had been taken to. The crash happened around 7:25 a.m. along Johnson Bridge Road near Old NC 10.

Authorities said the driver was traveling west on the roadway, lost control, ran off the right side, struck a ditch, and overturned. That diver was cited for failure to maintain lane control.

WBTV Investigates: Driver’s history with speeding

State officials identified the driver as Carol Barnes from Lenoir.

A review of Caldwell County court records shows that Barnes received two speeding citations in 2021 for driving 20mph or more over the speed limit. Records show that she had her commercial driving license (CDL) in both incidents, but she was not driving a bus in either of those incidents.

On the morning of April 16, 2021, she was cited for driving 73mph in a 50mph zone on US-64. In September of that same year, she was again cited for driving 70mph in a 50mph zone on the same highway. In both cases, she paid the fines.

North Carolina law states that applicants for school bus driver certifications must not have any conviction in the past 12 months for reckless driving or speeding in excess of 15mph. Barnes was already in possession of her CDL at the time of the 2021 incidents; her length of time employed as a bus driver is unclear.

A district spokesperson said Barnes had been employed as a bus driver since 2016, with no suspensions during that time. Drivers for the district are recertified through the Department of Motor Vehicles every three years.

Students affected

The high school students who were on the bus go to various schools, which include:

  • East Burke High
  • Draughn High
  • Hallyburton Academy

The bus operated as handicapped transportation and services multiple schools in the Burke County District.

“We are grateful that except for some bumps and bruises, the students involved in this morning’s bus incident are doing well,” Burke County Public Schools superintendent Dr. Mike Swan said. “We will continue to provide support to them as they heal physically and emotionally. We also are grateful that the bus driver’s injuries appear to be minor as well. Our thoughts and prayers continue to go out to the bus monitor and her family.”

DPS report provides new details of fatal Hays district school bus crash

The report notes that a fourth vehicle was driving behind the school bus and swerved to avoid colliding with the concrete truck..

A crash report released by the Texas Department of Transportation on Thursday provided further insight into the fatal wreck involving a concrete pump truck and a Hays district school bus carrying 44 prekindergartners and 11 adults.

While most of the details in the report were previously known, the crash report states that Jerry Hernandez, the driver of the FJM Concrete Pumping truck, was heading east on Texas 21 on March 22 when he swerved into the westbound lane.

A Hays district school bus driving west on the highway, returning from a field trip to a zoo in Bastrop, then swerved to the right to try to avoid the truck but was unsuccessful, according to the report filled out by Texas Department of Public Safety investigators. The impact caused the bus to flip counterclockwise and do a complete rotation before landing upright.

Hernandez continued driving in the westbound lane, the report said, causing another vehicle behind the bus to swerve into the eastbound lane to avoid being struck by the concrete pump truck. It was previously unreported that there was a fourth vehicle involved in the incident.

Hernandez then hit a Hyundai being driven by 33-year-old Ryan Wallace, a doctoral student at the University of Texas who died as a result of the collision.

The report states that Hernandez, 42, continued driving through the westbound lane, going through a guardrail before ultimately turning the concrete pump truck over on its side.

The other victim in the crash was Tom Green Elementary pre-K student Ulises Rodriguez Montoya, who was 5 years old.

Hernandez initially told investigators with the Texas Department of Public Safety that he only got about three hours of sleep the night before, in addition to smoking marijuana before bed and then taking cocaine at 1 a.m. The crash report obtained Thursday notes that a toxicology report is pending from a blood sample taken from Hernandez.

Last week, Hernandez was charged and arrested with criminally negligent manslaughter in Bastrop County.

Federal transportation authorities said Hernandez was an "imminent hazard to public safety" behind the wheel of a commercial vehicle, citing alleged drug violations and a failure to complete "any treatment plan" last year, according to an order from the U.S. Department of Transportation's Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration disqualifying his commercial driver's license.

According to charging documents for Hernandez, Francisco Martinez Jr., the owner of FJM Concrete Pumping LLC, told investigators he did not verify the status of Hernandez's commercial license or his driver's history prior to employing him. Despite these violations and the resulting "prohibited" status of his commercial driver's license, Hernandez was permitted to operate the concrete pump truck in Texas.

In October 2021, Martinez was ticketed for employing an unlicensed driver. On Tuesday, Martinez pleaded no contest to the misdemeanor offense and paid the then-delinquent $316 ticket, closing the case, according to Hays County Precinct 4 Justice of the Peace John Burns.

Reached by the American-Statesman Thursday afternoon, Martinez declined to comment and deferred questions to his attorney, Thomas Fagerberg. Messages to Fagerberg were not immediately returned.

A defense attorney listed in Bastrop County online court records as representing Hernandez did not immediately respond to a request for comment Thursday afternoon.

Driver cited for school bus crash that hurt 8 students in Burke County

Eight students were hurt and a bus monitor was flown to the hospital following a school bus crash in Burke County Tuesday morning, according to the North Carolina State Highway Patrol.

Faraday Future faked early sales, lawsuits claim

Two internal whistleblowers at Faraday Future claim the troubled EV company has been lying about some of the few sales it has announced to date. The employees, Jose Guerrero and Victoria Xie, have made those claims in a pair of newly filed lawsuits against Faraday Future and Jia -- as well as the company's head of HR, Nan Yang -- in Los Angeles Superior Court, alleging wrongful termination, breach of contract, and infliction of emotional distress. Both lawsuits also highlight what has been the central tension of Faraday Future: that its founder, Jia, allegedly continues to assert control over the company despite having been sidelined in 2022 as the result of an internal probe.

While driving in Russia every driver is required to have the following set of documents:

  • Driving license (if you plan to stay in Moscow for more than 6 months, your national license will not be enough, you have to obtain Russian license).

Fines in Russia

school tour bus accident

Traffic police officers

Traffic police officers can stop every car just to check the documents. Every road inspector must introduce himself pointing his title and last name.

The cameras can record not only speeding but other minor violations as well. Driving along the bus lanes, driving in the oncoming lane, incorrect parking or even driving without a full stop where there’s a stop sign – all those violations are in their competence. Numerous traffic cameras are installed in all city regions along every major road. The detailed list of cameras and places of their location is presented on this site . After the camera registered a violation, the appropriate fine is sent to the owner of the car by post and must be paid for a one-month term (there’s a 50% discount if you pay within 2 weeks). For serious violations (Russia has a zero tolerance policy on drinking and driving), the driving license can be confiscated by a court.

All the fines should be paid only at the bank or via internet, so never give any money (or bank cards) to the road inspectors.

Getting Russian driver license

Moscow driving school

Moscow driving school

A foreigner, temporarily staying in Russia can drive with an International Driving Permit (IDP) or national driving license, translated into Russian and notarized. Foreigners that are going to stay in Russia for more than six months must obtain a Russian driving license. To apply for a Russian driving license, you must provide the following documents:

  • Passport and valid Russian visa and legally certified copy.
  • The document confirming a place of continuous or temporary registration.
  • Medical certificate (available from any major health clinic).
  • National driving license, legally certified copy and translation.
  • Photo of 4х6 cm.
  • The receipt confirming payment of the state duty.
  • Application for passing the examination.
  • The receipt on examination payment.

If your national driving license is still valid, you will only have to pass a general driving test. If your license has expired, you must also pass a practical driving exam to get the Russian license. However, to do so, you must speak fluent Russian: the theoretical and practical instruction is conducted only in Russian. If you want to get your first driving license in Russia, you should also go to a local driving school, pass a medical test, have about two months of theoretical and practical driving instruction, and pass state driving exams.

Winter driving in Moscow

Snowfall near GUM

Snowfall near GUM

Driving in Moscow in winter could be a difficult thing, especially if you are not used to such weather conditions. During the winter period, remember to keep in your car a good snow brush and an anti-frost windshield washer fluid. Before winter arrives, have your car protected with winter tires. Studded tires are allowed and highly recommended outside of Moscow. It is better to change tires in advance – in autumn, and not to wait until the first snow. Otherwise, you run the risk of spending a lot of time in queues to service stations. Do not hurry to change winter tires in spring; it is better to wait until April.

Moscow Bus Network

Moscow Bus Network

Moscow's crazy traffic and its excellent metro network mean that the city's buses and trolleybuses aren't the number one option for tourists .

Moscow has hundreds of bus and trolleybus routes , many of which connect the city centre with its otherwise-isolated suburban neighbourhoods. Regular traffic jams mean that the bus network has not always been the most recommendable option , especially as the metro is so efficient.

Having said that, new bus lanes have opened up recently making it a comfortable alternative for certain routes. The bus can be a good, economical option at night , when 13 routes replace the metro after it shuts down (all starting from Kitay-Gorod metro and taking the main roads out to the edge off the city).

More modern buses have screens indicating the stops along the route, but in older ones you may well struggle knowing where to get off if relying on the Russian-language loudspeaker announcements .

If you do decide to catch the bus, tickets can be purchased from kiosks and metro stops, and the majority of lines operate between 6 am and 1 am.
