A review of our Kidzania Day Out

Do you ever wonder what jobs your kids will be like when they’re all grown up? I like to sit and wonder what jobs they’ll have and what they’ll choose to do! So we jumped at the chance to visit Kidzania, London to see what jobs our little ones would choose! Kidzania is a unique day out experience as it’s totally centered around the kids – it’s an indoor mini-sized city where children can feel like the ‘grown-ups’ and try out different careers for themselves! Kids can pick a “career” such as policeman, fireman, doctor then carry out jobs and get paid in Kidzania money. I thought it was interesting to discover that school trips can visit – it would also be a great place to learn about different job roles!

Top Tips for Visiting Kidzania

Kidzania is something a little different as far as days out go with kids in London – and your kids will have a great day out here but it’s worth being a little strategic to make sure you can do all that you want at Kidzania! Here’s our top tips for visiting Kidzania to make sure you get the most out of your day!

How to organise your day at Kidzania

Kidzania can be quite overwhelming at first – there’s so many great jobs to choose and when you walk in – you are faced with so many different and exciting activities to do.

  • My first top tip for visiting Kidzania is to try to and decide what you want to do and see before going. Check out the website for the activities that are available and try to ascertain what jobs your kids would like to do. The 4-hour time slot goes really quickly.
  • My second top tip about visiting Kidzania would be to advise your child to be a courier (this was my kids favourite job anyway) first because then they get to have a good look around KidZania and pick the jobs they most like the look of.
  • Tip three – be flexible. Remind your kids they will need to be flexible – it’s best to nip in and do any jobs that have a short queue. For example, our kids were in a queue for the cabin crew job but saw that the newsreaders didn’t have a queue and so we nipped in there instead!
  • If they have some spare kidZos at the end of the day, children can save it in a KidZania bank account for their next visit or spend the money in the shop at the end. One word of advice is that the shop is VERY expensive and so it might be better to spend the KidZos on the activities such as necklace making or gift card design which were better value for money. Check the website to see which activities are running on the day you visit.
  • Booking tickets online in advance is the most cost-effective way to visit Kidzania. Here you will also find special offers and deals. You can also pre-book parking at Westfield which saves time too.
  • Wear comfy shoes and light layers. It does get warm in Kidzania as they are
  • It does get warm inside when busy and as the kids are very active, it’s best for them to wear comfortable clothing and shoes that they won’t get too hot in. Therefore, travel light avoid taking to many bags, coats and extras for the most enjoyable experience.
  • Arrive up to 15 minutes before your scheduled time to allow time to get through the main entrance and to the departure lounge reception. On arrival children will each be given a debit card with 50 Kidzos and a hairnet, to be worn for some of the food and drink activities.
  • Take two adults! If you can, take another adult with you. We had to leave Mr M in a cafe with all the coats etc….. whilst I went around with the kids (he was in his element). And sometimes you need to queue at different places or trek around to suss out the shortest queues so two adults are very useful!
  • Try to wear layers. Big bulky coats are annoying to carry around so try to wear lighter layers.
  • Bring snacks and water. We found the eateries at Kidzania were busy until about 2pm and the kids didn’t want to stop for lunch anyway because they were having so much fun – so aim to eat a later lunch and take supplies with you.
  • The food was great at Kidzania. We ate at Firehouse which was yummy and perfect for kids but there is also a Costa Coffee for sandwiches and much needed Caffine. The firehouse serves pizza, hot dogs and pasta – the portion sizes are large! And they have kids portion sizes too which makes it economical.

Things to do for kids aged 4-6 at Kidzania

If you’re thinking of taking a 4 year old to Kidzania – there are lots for 4 year olds to do at Kidzania – they will love it! Probably kids younger than 4 aren’t going to get as much out of it as they won’t be able to do all of the activities. Taking a 4 year old with an older sibling will work well so they can go into do the activities together when parents aren’t allowed! But most activities for the younger ones have glass windows so you can see them all the time. Adults and children are all given an RFID bracelet so you can easily track the children and find out where they are. Children aged 0-7 must be with an adult at all times, whereas kids aged 8+ can go around and explore this mini city on their own. If you have a toddler with you too, there is a small soft play area for them too and they could join in the disco and I think they’ll have fun wandering around but won’t be able to do many of the activities.

Best activities for 4 year olds at Kidzania are:

Our kids aged 4 and 6 loved these jobs: Fire & Rescue Unit, The Hospital and A&E, the Shell garage – being a mechanic, being a courier and Police Department and the Supermarket shop assistant. We didn’t get a chance to try the window cleaners or cereal bar makers but they looked a lot of fun!

Things for kids aged 10-12 at Kidzania

If you’re wondering whether taking an older child to kidzania is a good idea – our 12 year old really enjoyed her day at Kidzania. She liked being able to go off with her brother and have free reign of the place but I’d make sure you have a friend or sibling to go with to make it more fun. There are lots of activities at Kidzania that are geared towards older kids.

Best activities for 10-12 year olds at Kidzania are:

Things for older kids to do at Kidzania. Our 9 and 12 years favourite jobs were: Becoming a Journalist, TV newsreader and weather person, H&M fashion designer, getting a university diploma and British Airways Aviation Academy.

Is Kidzania COVID safe?

We visited in 2020 during the COVID pandemic. Kidzania felt a very safe place to visit. All staff, adults and even kids had to wear a mask unless they were exempt. There were fewer people allowed in and one way systems to follow so there was plenty of space to social distance. All of the equipment the children touch during the jobs were wiped down. This did mean that there weren’t any less queues unfortunately – as it took time between each group of children to have the sides wiped down etc…… However, there was no queue whatsoever to enter Kidzania which I’ve heard is unusual!

Other great days out for kids in London

Hope you have a great time if you visit for Kidzania – we really enjoyed our day! If you’re planning a day out in London, you might like to read our One Day Itinerary in London and best activities to do with Kids in South London . We love living in London with kids – there’s so many family friendly things to do and here are a few of our favourite museums and art galleries in London for Kids: Transport Museum , Sea Life Centre, Tate Modern and Museum of London Docklands.

Kidzania Noida: What to know before you go

Kidzania with toddlers

What is Kidzania?

As an American, I had never heard of Kidzania. Can you believe that?! I didn’t know what I was missing. For those of you similarly in the dark, Kidzania is an experimental learning theme park. Think somewhere between a hands-on museum and tech school. Kids of all ages come to the Kidzania “city.” After getting your boarding pass and tracking watch (to keep track of funds and in case anyone gets separated) you proceed through the airport. Finally, you reach Kidzania! A proper tyke-sized city!   Kids cash their first paycheck and proceed to find work and pay to do activities.

Learning Opportunities at Kidzania Noida

You can spend your hard earned money in the candy factory for example where you make your own candy or the Kellogg factory where you make your own cereal! My kid’s favorite activity was being a firefighter. After gearing up and waiting at the fire station, the alarm rang and they went in the truck. At the hotel, fire hoses were set up for them to put out the “fire.” I also loved watching them in the hospital taking care of the newborn babies. Older kids can be an EMT or even a surgeon. Over 100 professions are represented. K ids learn how cities function, how professions work together and the value of money. Kidzania is a wonderful place for kids to get engaging, hands-on learning. What a great opportunity to start learning the value of a dollar at a young age.

Kidzania coming to the US?

Fear not, my fellow Americans, Kidzania will be coming to the USA in Dallas and Chicago by 2019 and New York in 2020!

Here are ten things to know before visiting Kidzania Noida (New Delhi)

Timing is key.

I thought that visiting on a weekday morning would mean fewer crowds but I was very wrong. Weekdays are dominated by school field trips and it was loud, crowded and chaotic. After 3 pm, however, we basically had the place to our selves. So if you are visiting as a family weekdays after 3 pm will be the least crowded. Note- Kidzania Noida is open until 8 pm. Weekends are busy as well with the family crowd.

Find the right line

There are two separate lines for each activity. One for school children and one for families. If you visit on a weekday there are mostly school children so there is essentially no wait. You just stand on the opposite side of the entrance and you’ll be ushered in ahead of the school crowd.

Is it good for toddlers?

There are more than 20 activities that toddlers are able to do. My kids were 2.5 at their first visit and loved it! Younger toddler will still find things to enjoy but your trip would likely be shorter. Check out the toddler only zones where you will find art projects, a bouncy house, ball pit,  and the coolest toy kitchen I have ever seen.

Toddlers play in the kitchen at Kidzania, Noida

It’s even better for kids aged 4+

For kids over the age of 4, there are more than a hundred activities! You’ll get an entire day of fun out of your visit!

Photography is allowed – but not everywhere

When an activity is done in a private room, you cannot take pictures inside the room. You can, however, exit the room and take photos through the glass. If you really want photos in the room you can ask one of the in-house professional photographers (who are permitted) and purchase the images afterward.

There is only one way to earn more money.

After the Kidzania dollars from the initial paycheck are over,  you HAVE to work for more. Since my kids are only 2, I tried to see if I could buy more Kidzania dollars with real money and was denied. The kids have to go to work. The higher paying jobs pay $8 but most activities cost $12 so it’s really a great lesson for kids.

Consider buying a longer pass

The length of your pass decides how big your initial paycheck will be. If you are traveling with toddlers, it might be worth it to pay a bit extra because they are very limited in what paid jobs they can do. More Kidzania dollars upfront takes some of the stress out of it.

school trip to kidzania

Repeat activities

If your child is particularly interested in an event they can repeat the activity as many times as they’d like. If there’s no line, they can even do it consecutive if there aren’t other kids waiting. For example, my kids needed to earn some more money to pay for more activities. We headed to the grocery store where they earned $2 for filling up a cart. They were having lots of fun so they filled up 3 carts and earned $6 each instead.

Ask for help

Ask for assistance on your first visit especially if you are visiting on a busy day. A worker can help you find the bank and your first activity.

The cleanest restrooms are at the entrance

Use the restroom at the entrance before you head in, it was very clean since hardly anyone uses it.

Don’t eat the pizza

The pizza looked and smelled delicious so we ordered a few personal sized ones. Unfortunately, they decided to put a bizarre layer of artificial cheese sauce on it and it tasted pretty odd.

Kids (even toddlers) are encouraged to go things independently.

Independence is highly encouraged at Kidzania. For some activities, parents are asked to take the sideline. For example, the preference is for parents to walk behind the fire truck, not ride along inside it. I was also told only kids were permitted inside of radio city. If your toddler needs you by their side you can explain the situation and they should make an exception. Just be prepared to make a case for it. During most of the activities though, I was encouraged to accompany my small children.

Consider booking your visit ahead of time

We initially had to cancel our first trip to Kidzania Noida because the day we had planned to visit was completely booked out. Think about booking online ahead of time, or at the very least, check the website the morning of before heading over to make sure tickets are still available.

Kidzania is an experimental learning theme park. It is a great place for kids to get engaging, hands-on learning! Here is what you need to know before you go. #learningthroughtravel #kidzania #newdelhi #india #travelwithkids #travelwithtoddlers #familytravel #familyvacation

EVERYTHING TEACHERS NEED TO KNOW TO AHEAD OF BOOKING A SCHOOL TRIP TO KIDZANIA FOR 2019/20

  • KidZania London announces its action packed 2019/20 programme for schools
  • Over 60 real life activities and careers for children to choose from, in partnership with real life brands including British Airways, Global Radio and Metro newspaper
  • Special events include STEM month, Parliament Week and Careers Fairs

KidZania London – the indoor city run by kids at Westfield London, Shepherd’s Bush – has announced its action packed 2019/20 programme, including a series of special events for schools.

The destination empowers children aged four – 14 to explore their imagination and interests with real-life activities and careers to choose from. These range from learning about aviation and what it takes to be a pilot in the British Airways Aviation Academy, to learning about animal wellbeing with the professionals at PDSA.

While offering a space to play and explore, each career applies to the national curriculum and teaches soft skills essential in a pupil’s development – from autonomy, teamwork and creativity. So teachers can be rest assured that while being a fun school trip, the activities enhance and reflect subjects taught in the classroom.

Victoria Gregory, General Manager at KidZania London, comments:  “A recent study by the UCL Institute of Education showed that school playtime is becoming a thing of the past for a generation of children. Sadly lessons are increasingly eating into lunch and playtime, with pressures to cover off the national curriculum. At KidZania, we provide a space where kids can independently play and explore while learning. We’re passionate about providing the balance – where kids feel like they’re getting much needed playtime within a fun, immersive experience – while providing an educational programme that really enhances their personal and social development.”

To bring the activities to life, KidZania runs a series of educational events across the year to enhance the learning experience.

Throughout June 2019

With a mission to get pupils excited about STEM careers, KidZania is hosting a month-long festival that will encourage pupils to take part in STEM focused activities, giving them first-hand experience of jobs within this field. Activities include the Shell Forecourt and Energy Lab, where young scientists will learn about why we need cleaner energy and how to develop fuels for the future.

Students can apply their creativity and curiosity at the new  ‘Coding 101’ degree  in the KidZania University, in partnership with  Children’s Intelligence Agency  – an app created by award-winning Bright Little Labs (named ‘Top Coding Toy for Kids’ by the Evening Standard in 2018 and the Independent in 2017, plus EDF Stem Pulse Award winner in 2017), which complements the UK’s KS1 & KS2 Computing Curriculum.

Worksheet trails in Science and Maths will be available to collect from the KidZania National Library, where pupils can visit various activities around the city to answer questions and solve mathematical equations.

Parliament Week ( 5th – 7th November 2019)

As part of UK Parliament Week, KidZania’s popular event will return to the city with a programme of events and activities about parliamentary democracy in the UK. KidZania’s theatre will once again become the ‘House of Commons’, asking pupils to challenge and debate two motions based on anti-bullying and environmental issues. As part of the event, KidZania is partnering with  WWE and NSPCC  to raise awareness of  Anti-Bullying Week , focussing on cyber bullying. There will be a workshop on how to debate, a Politics degree requiring pupils to budget for KidZania Government’s departments, and a voting booth so that pupils can have their say.

Careers Fair ( 21st – 23rd January 2020 and  3rd – 5th March 2020)

KidZania will be raising career aspirations and challenging career stereotypes with two events focussed on careers. New for 2020, the January workshop will run specifically for secondary schools, geared towards building employability skills ahead of going into the world of work.

Workshops include  CV writing,  where pupils will be encouraged to develop their CV in class before their visit to KidZania and build on this as they undertake work experience around the KidZania city. Students will also have the opportunity to check-in to the  interview workshop . The aim of the sessions are to give students the opportunity to build their presentation skills and confidence, to enable them to have the best chance in achieving jobs they’d like to do in the future, irrespective of background.

KidZania’s March event, available to both primary and secondary schools, will coincide with  National Careers Week and  International Women’s Day , with more exciting careers-related activities and partnerships to be announced soon.

Science Week ( 10th – 12th March 2020)

In accordance with  British Science Week , KidZania will be bringing Science Week back for another year. Pupils will be encouraged to discover a range of careers that rely on Science, enabling them to utilise the subject learning in class to real-life jobs.

Life's Tiny Miracles

Award-winning singapore lifestyle & travel blog, 12 tips to maximise your day at kidzania kuala lumpur.

September 15, 2013 by Angie. S 5 Comments

1. Go on a weekday. Check KidZania’s calendar to ensure it’s not Malaysian Public Holidays or School Holidays as it would mean double the crowd and waiting time.  If you visit KidZania on a weekend, your children is limited to only 1 session of play (5 hours) instead of a full day (7 hours).

2. Arrive early before the KidZania officially opens at 10am. Head directly to the Check-in Counters (at Ground Level) to purchase your boarding passes. It’s strongly advisable to book online to beat the queue as KidZania is highly popular with local families and school-going kids on excursions.  The entrance fee costs RM75 for Kids and RM50 (for International Visitors).

3. After you’ve gotten the boarding passes, head to Level 5 Immigration to check in.  You will be given a special security bracelet and an ‘advanced’ cheque.  Remember to greet all the staff you meet in KidZania with their own KidZania greeting -“Kai” which means “hello.”

4. With your cheque, head directly to the CIMB Bank to cash out 50 Kidzos (name of the currency used in KidZania).  Let the kids handle their own Kidzos as it instills in them a sense of responsibility to be in-charge of their own money (salary).

5. Go to the KidZania Information Counter and grab a facility map to help you navigate the two levels (you may also refer to the online map here if you wish to do some pre-trip research).  With the map in hand, proceed to queue at those ‘popular’ jobs such as Pilot, Flight Attendants and Fire Fighters. Our wait to be a Fire Fighter took us a good 60 minutes on a Thursday!

6. Try to attempt those jobs with relatively shorter queues to sustain kids’ enthusiasm and earn Kidzos first. They would need Kidzos to pay for services such as Face Painting, Jewellery Making and Studio Painting.  At the end of the working day, they would require at least 100 Kidzos to redeem souvenirs at the KidZania Departmental Store. A helpful tip would be to try the jobs located at Upper Level for the first half of your visit (as they tend to have shorter queues) or do those jobs that pay more (such as Dentist!).

7. When it’s nearing lunch time, go and queue at those jobs where kids can make their own food. There are 3 choices: Sushi King, Marry Brown Burgers and Ayam Brand Pizzas.  Kids can also try making their own bottle of Vitagen or Ice-cream!  Do note though kids have to pay kidzos to engage in these culinary activities. For parents, there are food outlets to grab a quick bite. Alternatively, you can exit temporarily to have your lunch at McDonalds right below KidZania.

8.  Let your kids have a say in what jobs they want to try.  Their choices may be ‘unorthodox’ but you’ll be surprised how much enjoyment and satisfaction they derive from being given autonomy in deciding their ‘career choice’. Dana and Aly had tons of fun role-playing as Supermarket Shopper, Courier, Newspaper Deliveryman and Paramedic.

9. If you still have time to spare, try to persuade your kids to try jobs which were once your own career aspirations or those which they would never have a chance to try otherwise. Under our suggestions, the girls tried their hands at being CSI Field Investigators and News Presenter.

10.  Come back another day to try those other jobs which you didn’t get a chance to do during this visit. E.g. DJs in Radio Stations, Runway Models, Car Mechanic etc.  With over 90 occupations, there are bound to be reasons for a repeat visit!

11. Bring a friend – the fun and enjoyment doubles when you have company!  Wear comfortable shoes, be prepared to stand in queue and do lots of waiting around for approximately 7 hours (that is, if you stay from opening to closing).

12.  After your KidZania visit, reward everyone for their hardwork (kids for taking their role-playing seriously and parents for waiting around) by hopping over to The Curve Shopping Mall next door for a nice meal.  We had a sumptuous and affordable dinner at this Dragon-i 龙的传人 Restaurant   which we highly recommend! Their Xiao Long Baos (Shanghainese Steamed Meat Dumpling) and La Mian (hand-pulled noodles) are really yummy!  After dinner, head back to your hotel for a well-deserved rest and foot bath! We chose to stay at the One World Hotel which provides complimentary shuttle service to and fro KidZania and The Curve Shopping Mall – how convenient!  We’ll review the hotel in our next post.

With good planning and wise tips from our friends, we managed to enjoy a very fruitful day in KidZania KL. Dana and Aly each managed 13 and 11 jobs respectively during out visit – quite a feat!  Given a choice, they would want to return to KidZania in a heartbeat.  The next time a long weekend or school vacation beckons, consider bringing your kids to KidZania for some interactive immersion fun!  I forgot to add that the main language used in KidZania KL is English.  For more info, please visit KidZania KL’s Website .
