SOILWORK is back with their twelfth studio album, which represents the band in their growth and their current phase of life, which is marked by a time period that probably no one on this planet will forget so quickly. Unlike the albums before, the creation process of Övergivenheten was very lengthy and a representation of the emotional state of the guys from SOILWORK.

Unlike the albums before, the creation process of Övergivenheten was very lengthy and a representation of the emotional state of the guys from SOILWORK. Recorded at Nordic Sound Lab in Skara, Sweden again with producer Thomas “Plec” Johansson, who also produced the last two projects, the album was written and recorded over three sessions between January and December 2021. There was no hurry to finish the album, which meant on the other side that the band was able to reflect on their music and savor the process of creating the album.

Musically, Övergivenheten is the continuation of the SOILWORK legacy of the last years. The approach is to make the album sound as organic as possible. Therefore, among other things, acoustic elements have been incorporated into the songs, which help to make the sound experience as close and genuine as possible. The album is intended to give the feeling of being in the middle of creating the energy and feeling the atmosphere. To build this experience and, above all, to give the listener the feeling of being right in the center of the band’s creative environment, balance was needed, something that the external circumstances made difficult, especially due to the current situation in the world. Not being able to do what every band loves to do, playing live for their fans, and being trapped in an inner circle, has turned out to be more difficult than expected. The pandemic influenced the band in more than one way. However, concerning the album it has also been an inspiration. Each band member perceived the last two years differently in terms of boundaries and personal development. All the surroundings, which appeared, influenced the creation of the album.

This taken inspiration of each band member can be heard clearly on the new songs. Singer Björn “Speed” Strid has developed lyrically and speaks not only about his personal perception and about experience, but on Övergivenheten, he refers much more to his environment by reflecting the outside including external impressions.

Övergivenheten can be translated to The Abandonment, which describes the overall album theme. To be surrounded by the thought of being abandoned or even abandoning others. The album deals with darker thoughts that have shaped the band itself and affected the development process of the album. The personal struggles align with social difficulties outside of the band.

Due to the pandemic, everyone has had their tail cut off, and a lot of negative energy in the immediate environment makes it difficult to block this out and create new music around cheerful themes. Guitarist David Andersson’s songwriting has been largely influenced by dark thoughts used as an escape to deal with difficulties that are directly related to midway anxiety, which also resonates with the lyrics he wrote. In terms of balancing the darkness of David’s lyrics out, Björn takes own inspiration with his point of view. Since both connect an intense relationship which lasts multiple years, music is the common language that brings both of them on the same level despite their different stages of life. This can be recognized on Övergivenheten.

SOILWORK are looking forward to the best post pandemic possible. It is planned to play several festivals and additional tour dates to support the album. Since it is finally possible to return on the streets, the excitement is already there. Drummer Bastian Thusgaard comments on going back on the road: “We don’t know what to expect when getting back out there. It is kind of abstract to return to touring lifestyle due to the long break and uncertainty, but we are looking forward to the return.” Also looking forward to the tour is freshly announced fulltime bassist Rasmus Ehrnborn who records with the band already since the EP “AWOTA”. His fresh blood adds a new dimension to the band whose line-up is completed by long-time keyboardist Sven Karlsson and guitarist Sylvain Coudret besides of David, Björn and Bastian.

Anyway, SOILWORK will not flinch, continuing to give free rein to their creativity. On the one hand to share and process their personal experiences and on the other hand to serve their fans. Everyone needs creativity and art in life, and no matter what happens SOILWORK will not stand still but give their fans what they want: honest music by trying to create a snapshot in time!

Three of Sweden's most iconic metal bands, IN FLAMES , ARCH ENEMY and SOILWORK are teaming up for a European tour titled "Rising From The North" . The lineup promises an unforgettable night of Swedish metal mayhem.

Anders Fridén from IN FLAMES stated: "Couldn't be more excited to announce this tour. It's been a long time coming and we are finally back together again on stage with our friends in ARCH ENEMY and SOILWORK . We plan to bring you an unforgettable night of melody and mayhem! This is some of Sweden's finest — a tour you simply should not miss!!!"

IN FLAMES ' latest album, "Foregone" , was released in February via Nuclear Blast . According to a press release, the LP "combines the greatest aggressive, metallic, and melodic strengths of their landmark records with the seasoned songwriting of their postmodern era."

"Foregone" was the second IN FLAMES album with Paul and drummer Tanner Wayne , the first with ex- MEGADETH guitarist Chris Broderick , and the third with Grammy -winning producer Howard Benson ( MY CHEMICAL ROMANCE , THREE DAYS GRACE ). Mike Plotnikoff ( ALL THAT REMAINS , WARBRINGER ) engineered at Benson 's West Valley Recording Studios . Joe Rickard ( 10 YEARS , STARSET , DIAMANTE ),who played drums for IN FLAMES from 2016 through 2019, handled mixing duties.

ARCH ENEMY released its latest record, "Deceivers" , last year to critical acclaim.

ARCH ENEMY played its first post-pandemic show at the opening date of "The North American Siege 2022" tour with BEHEMOTH and NAPALM DEATH on April 16, 2022 at The Marquee in Tempe, Arizona.

Amott previously stated about "Deceivers" : "Having just celebrated our 25th anniversary as a group and now releasing our 11th studio album, one could easily assume that we would be cruising along and going through the motions at this point. In reality, nothing could be further from the truth when it comes to ARCH ENEMY and our new album, 'Deceivers' .

"It is, without a doubt, always a challenge to raise the bar each time in both the songwriting and production side of things, and it can feel a bit daunting before we get into it. But once we do get started and fully immerse ourselves in the creative process, it's really like there is nothing else in the world and we are very focused. And believe it or not, for the most part, we have a ton of fun making this music! Creating 'Deceivers' was no different. Once again we shut out the outside world and went deep into the artistic zone. I believe we pulled out some really interesting musical and lyrical themes this time, a few things might even raise an eyebrow or two — while retaining all the signature elements of the band. In the end, it's ARCH ENEMY at full speed and power."

Soilwork and Kataklysm announce huge co-headline European tour

In winter/spring 2023, Swedish metal legends Soilwork and Canadian death metal masters Kataklysm will headline a European tour.

Taking them through 25 countries in Europe, this massive tour begins on February 3rd in Vorselaar, Belgium, and ends on April 30th in Amstelveen, the Netherlands. On this run, Wilderun from Massachusetts will be a special guest, and a second one will be announced later.

Kataklysm frontman Maurizio Iacono shared:

We are excited to announce that we are finally returning to Europe. We look forward to support our latest album Unconquered, which we didn't have the chance to do, due to the pandemic. We will be visiting the four corners of Europe with our friends in Soilwork. We are energized, determined and ready to bring the Kataklysm impact to Europe once again. This promises to be an incredible night of metal anthems, see you there!

IN FLAMES, ARCH ENEMY and SOILWORK are teaming up for a co-headline tour titled the "Rising From The North." The tour promises an unforgettable night of Swedish metal mayhem.

Brace yourselves, metalheads! In a seismic announcement that has sent shockwaves through the metal community, three of Sweden's most iconic metal bands, IN FLAMES, ARCH ENEMY and SOILWORK are teaming up for a European co-headline tour titled the "Rising From The North." The tour promises an unforgettable night of Swedish metal mayhem.

Anders Fridén from IN FLAMES: "Couldn’t be more excited to announce this tour. It’s been a long time coming and we are finally back together again on stage with our friends in ARCH ENEMY and SOILWORK. We plan to bring you an unforgettable night of melody and mayhem! Three of Sweden's most legendary melodic death metal bands are touring Europe together next year!

Three of the most important and influential bands from Sweden's legendary melodic death metal scene are teaming up for a huge European tour in Autumn 2024. Scene heavyweights In Flames and Arch Enemy will be co-headlining the trek, while fellow veterans Soilwork will be opening the shows. 

The tour will kick off with a quartet of UK dates, before heading to the European mainland with stop-offs in France, Luxembourg, Germany, The Netherlands, Switzerland, Italy, Austria, Hungary, the Czech Republic, Norway and a run of dates in Sweden, before finishing up in Finland. 

"Couldn’t be more excited to announce this tour," says In Flames frontman Anders Fridén. "It’s been a long time coming and we are finally back together again on stage with our friends in Arch Enemy and Soilwork. We plan to bring you an unforgettable night of melody and mayhem! This is some of Sweden's finest - a tour you simply should not miss!"

Rocksverige har den stora äran att få bjuda på en turnéblogg av självaste Björn “Speed” Strid i Soilwork. De befinner sig just nu ute på vägarna i Nordamerika tillsammans med Soulfly och Björn kommer lämna veckovisa rapporter. Nedan kan ni nu läsa han första lilla rapportering.

I’m sitting here at a hotel in Edmonton, Alberta writing this. We’re 1 week into our tour with Soulfly and I’m still feeling sort of fresh. There’s always a certain celebration mode when embarking a tour and you tend to drink a bit too much and realize after a couple of days that you’ve opened up just a liiiiiiittle too hard. Regardless, this tour tour has opened up real good. We flew into Los Angeles via London with Virgin Atlantic and luckily we all had 3 seats to ourselves. It’s a long trip, 11 hours from London so it definitely helps getting some space. I had smuggled a bunch of souvenir bottles with Gammeldansk (The official drink of Soilwork) with me on the plane and we all shared them on the flight over.

Luckily we had a day off before first show in LA. We played at the Fonda Theatre, which is an amazing looking place with lots of history. 1st show of a tour is always a bit scary and especially if it starts in LA and not Osnabrück in Germany.. Luckily everything fell into place and we performed 4 new songs from our new album “The Ride Majestic”. It was a great kick, especially playing “Death In General”, it works out REALLY good live and there’s a lot of emotion behind that song that is getting released, once you perform it in front of a crowd. One of my best friends, Nascar driver extraordinaire Stormin Ron Norman, also made it out to the first show with his family. It made me very happy, especially since I haven’t seen him in 2 years. He’s quite a character and is always a good time.

Next up was San Francisco. Always such an amazing view coming over the Oakland Bay bridge and seeing the skyline from the tourbus. There’s also a really nice view over Alcatraz. This time we played the Regency Ballrom, a fantastic venue with loads of history as well. Max Cavalera showed up and gave us a bottle of Maker’s Mark, that we sampled later.

A show in Portland followed at the Hawthorne Theatre, where we’ve probably played 10 times before. However, this show was definitely one of the best. Portland is also a very green and pretty city. If you wanna go for vintage shirt shopping, this is the place! Unfortunately to my disadvantage I’m usually too big for let’s say a Ratt vintage shirt, even if it’s XXXL. They tend to shrink through the years.. In other news that day, Dave had a bit too much fun and ended up on the floor in the tourbus.

Our new bassplayer Markus is definitely showing the way as far as the partying goes. He’s been with us before as a guitar tech in the mid 2000’s but now I’m happy to say that he’s with us on stage for real, rocking like there’s no tomorrow and probably drinking like there’s no tomorrow as well.

Next day we hit Seattle who offered us some really nice weather. As usual, I hit the Pike Market in Seattle to get some smoked salmon. My friend Neil Lam Sang picked me and Sven and took us there. Had a nice afternoon beer and some leek and potato soup with salmon. Fantastic. After the show, me and Sven had a nice (romantic??!) salmon dinner on the bus with aioli and toast. Had a real nice sleep after that..

Next day we played Vancouver in Canada, who, if you see her from the good side, is one of the prettiest cities in the world. Unfortunately we didn’t, which we knew before hand. Rickshaw Theater, that we’ve played a bunch of times before, is a great venue but situated in the worst part of Vancouver: Hastings. Or as they call it: ”Wastings”. The streets are literally filled with used needles and countless of people are shooting up on the street. It’s a really sad view. It does make you pretty humble in all of this, being on a nationwide tour in a bus and all. Me Sven, David and Sylvain decided to escape and hit Gastown, which was only a 15 min walk. We found a nice brewpub called Steamworks, where we spent most of the afternoon. It had a stunning view over the mountains.

We hit Kelowna the next day, another city in the province of British Columbia. It was a day off and we checked in to a hotel. Had a good steak at Montana’s and had some local Pinot Noir. Very relaxing to say the least. Ended up with a dip in the jacuzzi at the hotel. Next night we played a pretty small club called ”Level Nightclub” in Kelowna. It had a really tight and small stage but the crowd was fantastic. It was our first time in Kelowna, I hope we’ll come back!

Last night we played Edmonton, one of our favorite cities to play in Canada. Great crowd and always a hell of a party. Spent my afternoon watching opening night of NHL season. Unfortunately Toronto Maple Leafs lost against Montreal Canadiens…bummer.. As I’m finishing this up, we’re on our way through the Canadian Praries to Saskatoon, Saskatchewan. They call it the it the ”Paris of the Praries”.. let’s see if it lives up to it.. over and out.
