Real experiences of the real Los Angeles

See the real la, tripadvisor.

Did a full day walking tour of LA. Our tour guide Damien was very knowledgeable & passionate about giving us all the information in a clear & concise way. The tour was very well planned & organised & was not tiring.

Lisa Montesanti

We did The Real Hollywood tour & loved it! The tour was at a great pace & the guide (Vicky) was very knowledgeable & made the tour fun. Thank you!

Stuart was so knowledgeable & was worth the day with him. I had been to LA multiple times before but this is the first time I had taken a tour – so thrilled to have this experience with my mom & sister. I would recommend this tour again & again.

Lucrezia Scamarcio

We had an amazing DTLA Murder Mystery Ghost tour with Damien & Dante… thank you very much from the Italian girls… very interesting & funny… absolutely recommended!

This tour was awesome! Stuart is very knowledgeable, likeable & fun. The stops on the tour were very interesting & I learned a lot. I’ve been on quite a few tours of this nature & this was one of my favorites – highly recommend!

Did a walking tour of LA (LA in a Day). Vicky started us off with the Hollywood tour & Damien (who is also the owner) was our guide for the rest of the day. The entire day was awesome, I suggest this tour. There isn’t that much walking, to be honest. It’s very fun!

Michelle B.

My boyfriend & I took the DTLA Murder Mystery Ghost tour with Stuart as our guide & had the most amazing time! We had experiences we will never forget! We were able to see parts & people of Los Angeles that we never would have without Stuart. I give this 10/10. If we visit again, this will be at the top of our to do list!

Sara Pozueta

Absolutely amazing! Highly recommend taking both The Real Hollywood Tour & the Central Downtown LA tour! Our time in LA wouldn’t have been the same. Great way to learn about the city, see it from a different angle, explore the local life & learn about its history & filming industry. Damien our guide was fantastic!

Sylvie was our host & was fantastic. She had a lot of local knowledge & gave her unique perspective as someone who had moved to the area many years ago, so she had an outsider’s as well as an insider’s perspective. The tour gave us a great overview of Santa Monica & Venice & set us up for a great rest of the day.

Paula Lindgren

We took 2 tours, the Santa Monica & Venice Bike tour (with Sylvie) & the Real Hollywood tour (with Damien). Both were great & highly recommended. Sylvie & Damien were informative, knowledgeable & easy to talk to. They were like you were with friends. We were traveling as a family of 4 with 2 boys (15 & 12). We all enjoyed the tours.

2 miles An easy walking distance

6pm – 9pm (3 hours) Friday

What is the Hollywood Speakeasy Bar Tour? It’s a time-traveling caper that starts by whisking you back to golden-age Hollywood, then transports you to a rooftop bar overlooking the neon-lit streets, before taking you inside a hidden historic speakeasy and the birthplace of the Oscars.

The Hollywood Speakeasy Bar tour starts at the famed Frolic Room (inside the Pantages Theatre). Since the 1930’s the bar has been used by many actors that graced the stage next door and was a regular haunt of Los Angeles poet Charles Bukowski. Next we’ll visit a recent arrival here from France, Mama Shelter – and her beautiful rooftop bar. From there you can look over the rooftops and see all the way from the iconic Hollywood Sign to the towers of downtown Los Angeles.

After that we’ll discover a speakeasy bar that’s hidden in the oldest house in Hollywood, before ending the tour at a glamorous restaurant used by the stars from 1919 to today. During the course of the night we’ll regale you with stories and anecdotes detailing how this small farming town in the Wild West became the most famous place on earth. By the end of the tour you’ll have learned a lot about Hollywood history, enjoyed cocktails that fitted each location and eaten some good food. In other words a great experience of Los Angeles.

10 unique bar experiences you can have in Tampa Bay

  • Maggie Duffy Times staff

We crossed Central Avenue in St. Petersburg’s bustling Edge District, dodging cars and a group of mopeds. On the other side of the street, a hazy light illuminated a non-descript door in an alleyway. We entered, with hesitation and a small feeling that we were trespassing.

But once inside Bar Chica, the vibe couldn’t have been more warm and inviting. With dusky lighting and comfortable seating, the petit blue lounge at the back of fast-casual Cuban restaurant Bodega was the perfect setting for our small group to ruminate over potent, creative cocktails.

After my years of frequenting nightclubs, dive bars and restaurant bars, niche experiences like the one at Bar Chica are a welcome alternative. There are a couple of strong options across the Tampa Bay area right now, bars that don’t feel gimmicky but do emphasize a certain quiet, intimate, speakeasy vibe.

Here are 10 places to visit.

It’s best to make a reservation (online or phone) to discover this Hyde Park speakeasy. You’ll be texted a password and instructions for entry — leading you to the bagel shop Sesame where you place your “order.” Once inside, you’re transported to a realm where Victorian-style paintings mix with sleek leather sofas and a soundtrack of Golden Age hip-hop. The drink menu comes as a small book, with each featured drink correlating to a famous novel. For example, the Fountain of Youth — a bright, citrusy blend of Dobel Diamente tequila, Sotal Por Siempre, Genepy liqueur, honeydew, lime, cucumber kafir simple syrup and mint — is inspired by “The Picture of Dorian Gray” by Oscar Wilde. Drinks on the cocktail list average $24 each (for real!) but the bar is stocked with multiple options of every spirit, as well as a selection of “Dusty Bottles” (rare vintages) and a wine list. A small food menu features shareables like the gruyere cheese fondue, served with bite-sized bagel pieces, sliced chorizo, Granny Smith apple and carrots. Jekyll carries on the speakeasy tradition in Tampa first established by Ciro’s, one of the city’s first speakeasy bars, which has permanently closed . A Ciro’s pop up event happens at Jekyll in Hyde Park on May 8, where guests can bid on Ciro’s memorabilia with proceeds going to the Children’s Dream Fund. 813-358-3027. jekyllhydepark.com .

Punch Room at Tampa Edition

This intimate bar at the swanky Water Street hotel was the setting for a recent pop-up experience by Barcelona, Spain-based Paradiso. The team from the cocktail bar that’s considered one of the world’s best took over to bring wildly creative concoctions, including one called The Cloud featuring a nebulous coffee-flavored foam, with El Buho Mezcal infused with hibiscus and flax seeds, Altamura Vodka, Amaro Montenegro, dry vermouth, Xilitol Cordial, Piparras and Perrier. The Punch Room does collaborations like this often, making for a diverse experience depending when you go. But even on regular nights, the Punch Room is unique because it exclusively serves punch — and it’s not the kind your friends spiked at the prom. Instead, it leans into traditional flavors and spirits of the Caribbean and Gulf of Mexico inspired by Tampa’s fictional pirate history, drawing on blends of rum and cane spirits, tropical fruit and spices. Settle into the chartreuse and lapis velvet furniture for close conversation while sipping the Tampa Punch, featuring two types of mezcal, pineapple oleo saccharum, lime, Worthy Park 109 proof rum and coconut sauvignon blanc. 5 p.m.-midnight Wednesday-Thursday, 5 p.m.-1 a.m. Friday-Saturday. 500 Channelside Drive, Tampa. 813-221-4600. editionhotels.com/tampa .

Dunedin Mix

The carousel bar is the heart of this new food hall and event space that’s inspired by New Orleans and Paris. It slowly turns while you imbibe, so subtly that it takes about a whole drink before it’s made a full rotation. There’s a happy hour from 2-5 p.m. Tuesday-Thursday, featuring $8 Hotel Monteleone (Bacardi, Luxardo Maraschino, grapefruit, Gifford Orgeat, lemon and pink peppercorn) and Sazerac (Buffalo Trace, Pernod, sugar and Peychaud’s) cocktails or $4 Yuengling and glasses of prosecco. It’s devoid of televisions, with the goal to encourage conversation with fellow patrons. 11 a.m.-9 p.m. Tuesday-Wednesday, 11 a.m.-10 p.m. Thursday, 11 a.m.-11 p.m. Friday-Saturday, 10 a.m.-8 p.m. Sunday. 990 Broadway, Dunedin. 727-216-8861. dunedinmix.com .

You don’t have to be too virtuous at this St. Petersburg speakeasy — guests are referred to as “sinners” here. But you should make a reservation before entering the confessional, where you give Father the password. Inside it’s as red as Hades, but don’t act like a demon. The vibe is meant to be low-key and conversational, with no smoking or talking on phones. The 60-person venue seats by 50 percent reservation and the other half on a first-come, first-served basis. Guests are asked to limit their time to an hour and 15 minutes. On the robust beverage list are ones themed for the seven deadly sins, martinis, an absinthe service, mocktails, wines and twists on classics like the Fallen Angel, with Angel’s Envy Bourbon, lemon juice, simple syrup, Gifford Creme de Peche and Giuliana Prosecco. All cocktails are 50 percent off during happy hour, 5-7 p.m. Sunday-Friday (it’s closed Monday). It also serves light and sweet bites. 5 p.m.-midnight Sunday and Tuesday-Thursday, 5 p.m.-2 a.m. Friday-Saturday. 49 24th St. N., St. Petersburg. 727-258-7626. thesaintspeakeasy.com .

This music-forward cocktail lounge by Proper House Group just opened on April 19. While the music element won’t necessarily encourage intimate conversations, it still fits the bill for this list. Justin Layman, better known as DJ Casper, is the spot’s music director and has curated an impressive lineup of local and national DJs to set the vibe. Decked out in monochromatic deep red, it has seating for 50 and additional standing (or dancing) room for 30. The cocktails are updated twists on classics, like a Carajillo ($20) made with Don Julio Reposado, Licor 43, cold brew and smoked espelette. There are also zero-proof cocktails, wines by the glass and bottles of top-shelf champagne. 420 S. Nebraska Ave., Tampa. 813-221-9191. 5 p.m.-midnight Monday-Wednesday and Sunday, 5 p.m.-2 a.m. Thursday-Saturday. Reservations are highly recommended. alteregotampa.com .

The Ship’s Hold

Tucked next to Florida-themed pub The Galley (and owned by the same folks) in downtown St. Pete, this nautically-decorated compact bar boasts the largest selection of fine rum and amari (brandies infused with herbs, citrus peels and spices) in Central Florida. In addition to the seriously long list of rum, listed by region, there is also a robust cocktail menu and weekly specials, including Mezcal Mondays featuring 400 Conejos Mezcal with $4 copitas (sipping vessels) and $8 Palomas. It also has food and offers specials like Taco Tuesday, but the best news is that it serves late-night bites until 3 a.m. — a rarity downtown. 6 p.m.-3 a.m. Monday-Wednesday and Friday-Sunday, 7 p.m.-3 a.m. Thursday. 37 Fourth St. N., St. Petersburg. 727-575-7071. theshipshold.com .

In the front, Bodega is the go-to for Cuban food and fresh juices in St. Petersburg’s Edge District. But peek around a barn-style door in the back and find Bar Chica. Try one of the signature cocktails, like the Florida Sour, concocted of Whistle Pig Whiskey, “Piggyback” 6-year rye, orange, lemon, rosemary simple syrup and a red wine float. 7 p.m.-midnight Wednesday-Thursday, 7 p.m.-1 a.m. Friday-Saturday. 1180 Central Ave., St. Petersburg. Find it on Instagram .

The Catalyst on the Deuces

This bar, lounge and speakeasy will celebrate its first-year anniversary in June. It took over the former space of Chief’s Creole Cafe in the St. Petersburg district known as The Deuces. It’s home to the group Grown Folks St. Pete, so the age demographic of the crowd skews a bit older. The vibes are festive at both the outdoor patio and bar and indoor lounge, where live music and other events happen weekly. Food is available from Sid’s Caribbean Grill as well as a monthly brunch every second Saturday. 11 a.m.-midnight daily. 903 22nd St. S., St. Petersburg. Find it on Facebook .

Bern’s Cocktail Lounge

If you haven’t been to the lounge at Bern’s Steak House since it was renovated in summer 2023, or if you’ve never been, consider a visit. It hadn’t been refreshed since 1998, and one of the main changes is that the bar has been moved to the other side. It’s a modern and sleek update that keeps some of the original touches, like the section of the seating area that includes the same California redwood boards that are found in the dessert room. Through a partnership with art consultants Cass Contemporary, the restaurant commissioned seven oil paintings from New Mexico-based artist Drew Merritt, which were installed in the lounge in April. The paintings evoke the still-lifes and portraiture of the Old Masters, with nods to Bern’s depicted in wine, steak, stone crab claws and an alluring female figure holding a water pitcher. Take them in as you sip one of Bern’s own fine wines and spirits, with labels also designed by renowned contemporary artists. 5-10 p.m. Tuesday-Thursday and Sunday, 5-11 p.m. Friday-Saturday. 1208 S. Howard Ave., Tampa. 813-251-2421. bernssteakhouse.com .

Star Trolley’s mobile Speakeasy Lounge Bus

St. Petersburg-based Star Trolley filled a void when it started in 2021, providing festive transportation for weddings. Owner Richard Novikas started it after he inherited a fleet of trolleys and busses from his family’s business in New Jersey. Once business started booming, Novikas considered a plan for his 44-passenger transit bus. Inspired by a trip to The Ringling Museum in Sarasota where he saw an antique circus train car, he turned it into a 1920s speakeasy. Novikas did all the work himself, gutting the bus and building out the bar and seating. About a year ago he started testing the concept and found that people were eager to get a group together, dress up in 1920s attire and hit the road. It’s bring-your-own alcohol, but a bartender who will curate a bar menu can be provided for an additional fee. The bus seats 30 people and you can organize a tour, whether it’s a bar crawl of other speakeasies or just a stylish ride to a concert. Novikas said many people prefer to just stay on the bus and party. star-trolley.com .

London’s best speakeasies

Explore the city’s intriguing swathe of ‘secret’, Prohibition-style cocktail dens

Traditionally, speakeasies were places for illegal boozing that came to prominence during the Prohibition era in 1920s America. But ever since, they have taken on a mythical status: teacups brimming with gin, suave jazz musicians and a glitzy, retro dress code. Here’s our pick of London’s speakeasy-inspired bars.

An email you’ll actually love

London’s best speakeasy bars

69 Colebrooke Row

69 Colebrooke Row

  • 5 out of 5 stars
  • Bars and pubs
  • Cocktail bars
  • price 3 of 4

‘The bar with no name’, it styles itself – try telling that to a taxi driver. In reality, everyone knows this place by its address, hidden away from the Upper Street hordes on an Islington backstreet. It’s the tiny flagship of bar supremo Tony Conigliaro, noted worldwide for his dedication to the art of the mixed drink: as such, it’s not easy to get a seat here without booking. Punters come for the cocktails, all of which are outstanding.

Blind Pig

  • price 2 of 4

The Blind Pig takes its name from the US codename used for bars during the Prohibition era, and a blindfolded little piggie doubles as a doorknocker at this otherwise nondescript entrance on Poland Street. The interior is charmingly antiquey, with dark wood, ageing brown leather and a mirrored ceiling. But the drinks are anything but low key, with pun-heavy names on the menu and a specials list of drinks based on childhood tales – from Winnie the Pooh to Harry Potter. A million miles from illegal hooch.

The Bootlegger

The Bootlegger

  • 3 out of 5 stars
  • City of London

Proof that the Prohibition theme is far from a ’90s-only trend, The Bootlegger brought speakeasy chic to Leadenhall Market in 2015. And in true covert style, this one is hidden between a Nando’s and a dry cleaners. Low lighting, an old-fashioned till, a gramophone and even a hooch distiller seal the speakeasy deal. In fact, this bar ticks all the trademark boxes, with staff wearing braces and bow ties and misty-eyed jazz music on a loop.

CellarDoor

  • Nightlife venues
  • Covent Garden

In spite of the futuristic, purple-lit stairs leading down from pavement level, it can be tricky to find this diminutive club in a converted Victorian loo; make the effort though and you’ll be rewarded. Some staggeringly clever design means that although there’s room for just 60, CellarDoor never feels claustrophobic, though the toilets require a bit of courage: the glass doors only cloud over when locked.

Callooh Callay

Callooh Callay

  • 4 out of 5 stars

This area of town isn’t as hip as it used to be, but Callooh Callay is still as much a destination in its own right as it is a hidey-hole to avoid the drinks-offer-seeking masses. Since opening in 2008, it’s consistently served some of the most innovative cocktails in London, even if the decor has been left behind: the Lewis Carroll/Victoriana theme is partially enforced, but too much ’90s Shoreditch irony (a wall of analogue cassettes, for instance) feels somewhat incongruous.

Discount Suit Company

Discount Suit Company

  • Spitalfields

Using the same naming convention as Dream Bags Jaguar Shoes in Shoreditch – ie open a bar but keep the old premises’ name – is this spot hidden away under one of the many clothiers and couturiers around Petticoat Lane. The area between Bishopsgate and Whitechapel is mainly deserted in the evening apart from the ghoulish Jack the Ripper groups, which makes a visit to Discount Suit Company feel even more clandestine.

Evans & Peel Detective Agency

Evans & Peel Detective Agency

  • Earl’s Court

The speakeasy trend reaches its apogee/nadir, depending on your taste, with this new basement bar accessed off Earl’s Court Road. ‘At all times do not draw unwanted attention to our venue,’ beseeches the menu. Oh, sorry. It makes a big noise about being secretive – I evaded an intercom interrogation by sneaking in behind a group of fellow drinkers. A dapper chap behind a desk then kept the schtick going: ‘Under what name did you book your appointment?’ And, ‘Can you tell me something about your case?’

Experimental Cocktail Club

Experimental Cocktail Club

As bar after bar opens using the rather tired ‘Brooklyn Prohibition’ template, Experimental Cocktail Club seems ever more original – it’s hard to find, sure, but inside remains opulent and elegantly aloof to trends. It’s arranged over three floors of an old Chinatown townhouse, flatteringly lit and expensively decorated. Booking isn’t essential (half of the capacity is kept back for walk-ins), but it is recommended – the doorman is known for being a little snooty (email booking only, between noon and 5pm).

Purl

We’ve long been fans of Purl, one of London’s first speakeasy-type bars and begetter of both VOC and the Worship Street Whistling Shop. Booking is advisable – though walk-ins will be seated if there’s space. The layout of the bar, over a number of smallish spaces in a vaulted basement, gives the opportunity for genuine seclusion if that’s what you’re looking for. And if you’re interested in cutting-edge cocktail making, you’re also in luck.

Mayor of Scaredy Cat Town

Mayor of Scaredy Cat Town

For a so-called ‘secret’ speakeasy, there was an awful lot of publicity when this basement bar opened beneath the Breakfast Club in Spitalfields. According to the booze bloggers, in order to gain exclusive entry, you need to embark on clandestine correspondence with a chap called Henri who gives it the big hush-hush and may, if you’re lucky and tap the side of your nose, reveal the covert entrance to a cloak-and-dagger drinking den. Don’t believe the hype. The entrance is the one that looks like a big SMEG fridge door.

Milk & Honey

Milk & Honey

This, the urban myth has it, has long been one the best bars for cocktails in London. It might well be, but it’s hard to tell unless you have night vision like an owl – the lighting is turned down so low you’ll need to borrow a candle to read the drinks list, let alone see your drink, and you may not even recognise your drinking companions across the table. And then there’s the difficulty of getting in. Uhuh, it screams ‘speakeasy’.

Nightjar

Nightjar has become a huge success, busy even midweek; we visited on a Monday and were lucky to get in. Clear message: book a table. The cocktail list, divided into historical eras (pre-Prohibition, post-war and so on), makes for enthralling reading with all its unexpected ingredients. Just to give an idea: the kenko-teki swizzle includes a green coffee bean infusion, sake, green tea, buckwheat rice syrup and alfalfa.

Oriole

Some serious speakeasy hallmarks are present at Oriole, with a strict reservation policy, a barely marked entrance, a curtain at the bottom of the stairs covering any view inside and a live jazz band setting the mood. But otherwise, this showy bar throws out the speakeasy rulebook by introducing ostentatious décor complete with a jungle print wall and flashes of gold and jade. Speakeasy meets House of Holland, basically.

Ruby's

This basement bar is practically masquerading as a rundown cinema on the outside, with a cine-style lightbox up above that has a regularly changing tongue-in-cheek message. Enter down the rickety staircase to discover a twee bar where you can drink in among off-kilter lampshades and the hue of red lamps and candlelight. The space is so cool and small, you’ll want to keep it a secret. Killer cocktails are Prohibition-strong.

A Toast to the Prohibition Movement and Its Epic Failures

Looking for a paranormal experience? Check out these haunted hotels on your next trip to northern Arizona

speakeasy bar tour

Ghost hunters have long claimed northern Arizona boasts a unique history of paranormal encounters — especially in some of the region's oldest hotels.

The spirits of former staff, famous guests, pets and more are reported to still roam the halls and interact with guests. But luckily for today's visitors, most of the spirits are reported to be friendly.

If you're looking for a unique experience on your next visit to northern Arizona, consider a stop at one of these hotels that some have claimed over the years are haunted.

Hassayampa Inn, Prescott

Most of the paranormal encounters reported at the Hassayampa Inn involve a ghost named Faith.

Legend has it Faith and her new husband checked into the hotel to celebrate their honeymoon. When her husband left to buy a pack of cigarettes and never returned, Faith waited for him for three days before eventually taking her own life. But, many say, Faith never truly left the hotel.

Guests and employees have reported hearing crying throughout the hotel and noticed the disappearance of random objects over the years. Others have reported feeling cold spots in the honeymoon suite where the smell of flowers often emanates from the empty room. Some people have even reported seeing Faith’s spirit in the form of a translucent shadow donned in a pink gown, and on rare occasions, holding a bouquet of flowers. Notably, Faith never threatens during her encounters.

While Faith may have never left, the Hassayampa Inn has been upgraded with modern amenities since first opening in 1927. Today’s guests can enjoy a variety of room options as well as the on-site Peacock Dining Room, a glass bar and a fitness center. Dogs up to 45 pounds also stay for free. The hotel also offers a variety of special packages including at the Stoneridge Golf Course and with Angry Ape Off-Road Adventures.

Hotel Monte Vista, Flagstaff

Located just off Historic Route 66 in downtown Flagstaff, Hotel Monte Vista has long been known for rumors of haunting with a cast of characters each with their own unique backstory.

The Meat Man in room 220 was a long-term boarder known for his habit of hanging raw meat from the chandelier. He reportedly died in the room and his body was found three days later. Soon after, a maintenance worker reported returning to the room to find the television on at full volume and the linens on the bed had been ripped and scattered throughout the room. Today, it is common for the television to act on its own and some guests report feeling cold hands touching them in their sleep.

On the third floor, room 305 is known as the most active room in the hotel. Numerous people have reported seeing a woman in the rocking chair near the window. Legend has it that an elderly woman and long-term renter would sit by the window for hours.

Appearances of the Women of the Night are connected to room 306, where two prostitutes were killed and thrown from the third floor to the street below in the early 1940s. In the years since numerous guests have reported being awakened in the middle of the night and unable to return to sleep because they have an overwhelming feeling of being watched. Some male guests also report the feeling of having hands placed over their mouths and throats before awakening unable to breathe.

Guests also might hear an unexpected knock at the door and a muffled voice announcing “room service” courtesy of The Phantom Bellboy. But when guests open the door, no one is there. Some people have reported seeing the figure of a bellboy standing outside of room 210, including legendary actor John Wayne during a few of his stays at the hotel. Wayne reported that the ghost seemed friendly.

Today’s guests can enjoy modern amenities in a variety of different room options while they seek out their own paranormal experience. Visitors can also enjoy the Monte Vista Cocktail Lounge, the first speakeasy in Flagstaff, where the ghosts of a dancing couple have frequently been reported on the dance floor.

Jerome Grand Hotel

The Jerome Grand Hotel is a well-known hotspot for alleged paranormal encounters with frequent visits from ghost hunters and other enthusiasts looking for proof ghosts exist. The site was the former home of the United Verde Hospital where nearly 9,000 people are reported to have died before the hospital closed in 1950. After sitting unused for more than 40 years, the hotel opened for business in 1996.

Guests have often reported seeing the ghosts of a doctor carrying a clipboard, a female nurse and a female patient in a gown wandering the halls together.

Notably, not all spirits at the hotel are human — the ghost of a cat also allegedly lives in the building. Guests have reported feeling the cat brush up against their legs, purring meowing and scratching at doors. A guest was able to capture a clear photo of the cat sitting at a table in 2008, and the photo is kept at the front desk alongside other photos of ghosts.

Perhaps the best-known spirit people have reported seeing at the Jerome Grand Hotel is the ghost of Claude Harvey, a hospital maintenance worker who died in 1935 under mysterious circumstances when his body was found pinned under the elevator. Harvey was believed to have been murdered. He appears as a shadow against the wall, but nobody has reported seeing a full apparition.

Much of the current hotel harkens back to its history including still being serviced by the original 1926 Otis elevator and the 1926 Kewanee Boiler to provide steam heat throughout the building.

In between ghost encounters, guests can enjoy their stay in a variety of modern rooms and have lunch and dinner on-site at the award-winning Asylum Restaurant during their visit.

Oatman Hotel

Alongside the famous burros roaming the area, the Oatman Hotel is one of the best-known buildings in the small town along Route 66. The hotel was originally built in 1902 and survived three major fires that nearly destroyed the town over the course of just a few years. Today, the Oatman Hotel is a well-known destination for paranormal enthusiasts and welcomes curious visitors from far and wide.

The ghost of an Irishman known as Oatie has been known to pull sheets off the beds and open the window of his old room. Legend has it that Oatie, a miner who lived at the hotel, drank too much one night and collapsed behind the hotel where he was later found dead. Visitors report that Oatie can often be heard playing the bagpipe around the building.

Some of the hotel’s more famous alleged spirits include Clark Gable and his wife Carole Lombard who stayed at the hotel during their honeymoon in 1939 and are believed to still inhabit their honeymoon suite. The couple has been caught whispering to each other and laughing together in the suite.

The second floor houses a Theater Room Museum where distinct outlines of sleeping bodies have been found in the dust on the beds — sightings that have been attributed to a former chambermaid. In the downstairs bar, spirits often lift money off the bar and raise glasses into the air.

While the hotel no longer provides overnight accommodations for guests, visitors can still enjoy a bar and restaurant on the ground floor and a museum on the upper floors.
