All of the Star Tours – The Adventures Continue Combinations

Star Tours – The Adventures Continue at Disney’s Hollywood Studios is the second incarnation of the park’s original Star Wars-based motion simulator and debuted in 2011. For this attraction, guests board a Starspeeder 1000 piloted by C-3PO and encounter a number of planets, characters, and scenes spanning the Skywalker Saga.

Part of the appeal of this attraction is that the planets, characters, and scenes you encounter on your ride are randomized! Where you go and who you’ll see could be completely different with each ride! But just what planets and characters from that galaxy far, far away can you expect to encounter during your flight?

Option #4: Exegol

Above the planet of Exegol, the Starspeeder tries to avoid being hit during the battle between the Resistance and the Final Order from The Rise of Skywalker . The speeder successfully helps take down a Star Destroyer.

Option #5: Geonosis

Upon arriving in the Geonosis asteroid belt, the speeder is pursued by Boba Fett’s Slave I ship. The speeder then is chased by Darth Vader and TIE pilots through the unfinished second Death Star. After another run-in with Boba Fett, the speeder jumps to hyperspace.

After jumping to hyperspace, the Starspeeder 1000 lands at one of two locations.

The Starspeeder 1000 arrives on Batuu and lands in Black Spire Outpost which guests can see in person at Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge.

Option #2: Spaceport THX1138

The Starspeeder 1000 has a chaotic landing and startles several pit droids while the actual speeder pilot’s AC-38 approaches angrily.

Those are the possible scenes you could experience while riding Star Tours – The Adventures Continue!

I remember when STAR TOURS went thru its first refurb, and my son and I did an early EXTRA MAGIC HOURS at Hollywood studios, and our chief goal was to document how many different combinations we could see. We ran around from the exit back into the next show continuously for maybe 2-3 hours with effectively NO LINE until our stomachs couldn’t take it any more. One thing we did notice at the time was that when the rebel leader would come on, and say that the spy needed to be “safely escorted to (wherever)”, that some of those times the leader would distinctly specify the SEX of the spy (Like “SHE needs to be safely escorted to…”). We realized that TECHNICALLY, this somewhat DOUBLES the so-called ‘combinations of possible experiences’. My son and I both started paying attention to which leaders had this more specific text, and at exactly what point the cast members were pressing either the secret “SPY is MALE” or SPY is FEMALE” buttons.

Anyway, we soon learned that when YODA was the rebel leader who appeared inside the cabin on the screen. Then the spy was ALWAYS a female. Yoda always said “Accompanied SHE must be…”

I ALWAYS get the episode 1 ending and it PISSES me off! I want to see something else!

I’ve been on it twice and got the exact same each time. Still good.

I’ve also seen three more endings. Land with the Falcon, land with the Falcon with chewie outside it (both in 2018) and land on the rebel cruiser and be welcomed by a host of people clapping your efforts. One was dressed a bit like Mon mothma (March 2022).

Haven’t ridden star tours in years – do they really mix and match scenes across timeframes? Could you get Darth Vader in “The Escape” followed by the wreckage of the death star on planet #1? That would allow the 1000+ combos, but would make zero sense.

I wrote an exam question about this last summer for my probability and stats class!

For some of the options, there’s 2 different alternatives, so that brings it to 2100 unique combinations. That said, only Disney knows whether or not they’re keeping everything in the mix.

Am I doing the math right that, based on the above, there are 1,750 possible combinations? I figured stats-heavy Touring Plans would note that in the article and save me (and my poor math skills) the trouble! LOL

Which story you get definitely can color your rating. We rode last Jan and whatever story we got I was like meh. We rode again in Oct and it was Darth Vader and I enjoyed it a lot more. It was a completely different experience. At the very least way to go Disney for making it so unique each trip.

Walt Disney Imagineer Tom Fitzgerald gives StarWars.com a peek behind the curtain of the latest updates to the beloved Disney Parks attraction.

As Lando Calrissian once said, “You truly belong here with us among the clouds…of purrgil .”

OK, we may have added that last bit. Lately, some travelers aboard the Star Tours - The Adventures Continue Starspeeder have been finding themselves sailing through the air above Seatos , a new destination where a pod of purrgil puts you smack in the middle of a moment inspired by the Ahsoka series, now streaming on Disney+.

  • Celebrating Star Tours
  • Creative Star Tours

It’s been nearly five years since the last original Star Tours ride closed down in Disneyland Paris , and yet it keeps inspiring creative people to create tributes.

We at EndorExpress created a full captation of the original experience as Star Tours: Before The Adventures Continue , while others have created excellent 3D recreations and more. But today we want to shine a light on Star Tours: Last Launch :

As the Empire expands its power across the galaxy, a communication message is intercepted between the rebellion and someone deep inside the intergalactic travel agency Star Tours. Will this message blow the Rebel cover? Find out in Star Tours: Last Launch! Star Tours: Last Launch synopsis

Led by Mickael Plasse, it’s a 20 minute tribute to our favourite attraction using a mixture of live action, built sets and 3D environments. The project is currently in its last week of a kickstarter to raise funds to complete the project and enter it in film festivals. We talk to Mickael about the project and where the inspiration came from.

My earliest memory of Star Tours was when I was just four years old. I remember telling my parents that ‘he is driving so bad!’ (Laughs). So Star Tours always held a special place in my heart. Just before the final flight I came up with the idea to create an hommage.

How did your feel about the closure and the upgrades?

I like the new version! It took a lot of work and they managed to make it great. Especially the movements combined with the latest visuals is spectacular. However, I do miss the little touch of immersion that we had on the original one. Now we are just IN Star Wars with C-3PO as our pilot, instead of just living in the Star Wars universe and just seeing what else is out there.  I don’t know how to fully explain it, but it’s different. I’m still very nostalgic of the original one.

star tours 2021

Understandable! So you incorporated both timelines into a coherent story? I’m sure that wasn’t simple!

Correct! The chronology of the Star Tours has always been complicated. And we made it even more complicated to make it fit. (Laughs) You have the Death Star on the original version while the story took place after the return of the Jedi. But then the new version of the attraction take place before the original ride but we found RX-24 in the queue. Also you have the G2 droids which look more sophisticated than their predecessors (or successors timeline wise), of which the upper part are crated next to Captain Rex in Disneyland Paris.  So I took some liberties with the Story of Star Tours: Last Launch. The original Astroport is a maintenance area while the spaceport THX1138 is the main unit of Star Tours. This gives us the freedom to add both areas to a single timeline.

That sounds exciting! You chose to launch a kickstarter to fund the project. Why the choice?

Yes! The crowdfunding. It truly was a success as we reached our goal in just a few days, which is just absolutely incredible! So first of all I would really like to thank all the people who supported the project! You know that financing is always the hardest part of a project, especially as an independent filmmaker. In the beginning I tried to self-finance the project, but quickly got limited in several areas like set construction. Choosing a crowdfunding gave us the opportunity to build some actual sets! Fun fact: one of the perks was to have a small role in the film. The extra budget will also allow for an actual premiere and screenings in France with possibly other countries as well!

star tours 2021

Can you tell us a bit about the technical and creative side of the project?

Well, the main difficulty of this project is the fact that Star Tours just has these three rooms and a film, none of which are accessible to shoot a short film in. So we not only have to recreate everything on our soundstages, but also come up with the rest of the TXH1138 Spaceport. So we built some sets, which then got extended with virtual sets. For the rest of the scenes we’re in a complete 3D environment. We built everything in Blender to show that you can actually create realistic visuals with free software, and don’t need expensive gear to create short films. In fact, we started shooting the movie on just a Sony a6300, and recently upgraded to the Panasonic GH5S.

star tours 2021

Impressive! Well, we can’t wait to see the finished project!

You can still contribute to Star Tours: Last Launch here .

Star Tours on “Behind The Attraction” is a Direct Flight to Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge

The Star Tours episode of Behind the Attraction on Disney+  has a typo in the title. It says “Star Tours” but it really should say “ Star Wars Attractions.”

star tours 2021

The Star Tours episode of Behind the Attraction jumps in with the childhood visits of George Lucas to Disneyland commenting about how he always felt Tomorrowland was a little less than it could have been. Still relevant today, George. We then take a look at the tumultuous late 70s and early 80s at the Walt Disney Company, with famed Imagineer Tony Baxter explaining that he confronted then-CEO and Walt Disney’s son-in-law Ron Miller saying recent movies like The Black Hole had not connected with the audience and needed the outside help of someone like Steven Spielberg or George Lucas. Spielberg was out of the question though because of his connections to Universal Studios. Imagineer Tom Fitzgerald also explained Lucas was a more logical choice because Star Wars just felt more like a Disney movie.

The episode goes on to explain about the new Star Wars roller coaster that was going to be built, featuring multiple choices in the middle of the attraction with different track possibilities. A galaxy of choices as it were, but one that required way too much space that Disneyland didn’t have, not to mention in Tomorrowland where Space Mountain already existed. Fortunately, a company in London had developed flight simulator technology and was looking to get into the entertainment and leisure business, and some Imagineers made their way across the pond to have a look at the technology.

star tours 2021

While Lucas was visiting Imagineering, he saw storyboards for different POV shots (shown in the episode) and suggested that a Star Wars attraction would be similar to this. While visiting the Simulators, they were shown POV of a roller coaster, realizing that they can’t do it this way, and needed to push that simulator to its limits and embrace the flight idea.

After developing that idea further and figuring out the film aspects of it, including “loop cabinets” (remember actual film reels? Those were a thing!) and how to sync the motion without everyone in the simulator getting violently ill, and some story work involving the idea of a tour company (originally called “Cosmic Winds”) we are shown some archival footage of George Lucas saying that the system was fantastic because it can be changed and updated after an amount of time… foreshadowing!

ILM’s Dennis Muren jumps into the conversation and talks about the creative editing of the film, with Tony Baxter adding again this isn’t a movie, it’s a window. It has to be one continuous shot. A significant point of contention though? That iconic trench sequence. Tom and Tony insisted that the attraction include it. Muren didn’t want to. It’s been done before. It took Lucas himself to come in and side with Tom and Tony saying that’s what the guests want. Muren included it and now, today, praises them for how right they were to have it in there.

star tours 2021

After a bit more about the building of the attraction, as well as the inclusion of Captain Rex as an animatronic whose characteristics all but demanded Paul Reubens (AKA Pee Wee Herman) come in and record the vocals for the show, we wrap up on the original attraction, but oddly, we’re only one third of the way through the episode. And speaking of Pee Wee Herman, let’s channel that energy for the remainder of the episode and let “immersive” become the new secret word that inspires us to start screaming and cheering.

Going back to that archival footage of Lucas saying the ride can be updated and reprogrammed, we now segue into why and how that can be done, and flash forward to 1999ish when The Phantom Menace was about to hit theaters and Imagineers were shown footage of the pod racing sequence and started developing updates to the attraction. But wait. If this is what’s in Episode 1, what’s in Episode 2? Okay so now we have this happening in number 2 oh let’s see what’s in Episode 3. With that and knowing Star Wars fans don’t want to see one planet out of the entire galaxy far, far away, Tom Fitzgerald explains the idea of a “slot machine” concept full of variables and different options that guests could experience on their Star Tours flight, with various destinations and variables being available on different “wheels” of a slot machine.  Lucas approved of the idea, but the original pilot (ACE) was out in favor of a nervous droid who didn’t know what he was doing. Luckily, they already had one of those, but it wasn’t Rex. It was C3PO, allowing guests to be more fully immersed (AHHHHH) in the Star Wars stories they already know. It was also Lucas who suggested the idea of the Rebel Spy, where a guest is selected at random and shown inside the simulator.

We then jump to 2012, when the Walt Disney Company acquired Star Wars and Lucasfilm, explaining that then-CEO Bob Iger challenged the team at Walt Disney Imagineering to come up with something completely new and expansive in the Star Wars universe. Wait, let's look at our time clock…we are now two thirds of the way through the episode. You know what that means?! This look at Star Tours has now become an inside look at Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge!

star tours 2021

They episode dives into the creation of the new land, and the time in history where the Imagineers were so excited to jump into the Star Wars that they already knew and loved before they were told it must incorporate the new movies that were going into production, but with the small problem that nobody knew what those movies were going to be. After developing the idea, they go into how the land needed to be something nobody knew from any of the movies and a whole story that guests can immerse themselves in to create their own Star Wars adventure, but ironically adding that the guests want to pilot the Millennium Falcon so that was a must-do experience.

Interestingly, they explain that how they would achieve the capacity goals necessitated for a marquee attraction like Millennium Falcon: Smuggler’s Run is based entirely on a classic Tomorrowland experience, the Carousel of Progress, with the different cockpits making up wedges that rotate on their own carousel. This portion of the episode was surprising to me because as new as this attraction is, they take a good portion of time explaining how it works, something that could be considered “breaking the magic.”

star tours 2021

Don’t get your hopes up though, when it comes to Star Wars: Rise of the Resistance they just touch upon the addition of the attraction to the land, and how they worked to make it a truly immersive experience with an impressive scale. But more importantly, the entire thing credits Star Tours as the foundation that led to Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge and the presence of those stories in the Disney Parks today.

Disneyland | how star tours saved disneyland at a low point in the park’s history, walt disney imagineering takes a behind-the-scenes look at disneyland’s star tours ride in the new 10-episode 'behind the attraction' series debuting on disney+ on wednesday, july 21..

star tours 2021

Disneyland was struggling for new ride ideas in the 1980s after a slate of mediocre Disney films when Walt Disney Imagineering turned to Star Wars creator George Lucas for a boost of creative inspiration that would eventually lead to Star Tours coming to Tomorrowland.

“I wanted to have an involvement in Tomorrowland,” Lucas said in a new Disney+ series. “I thought that was a portion of the park that had always been a little less than it could have been.”

It certainly helped Lucas was a lifelong Disneyland fan who had visited the Anaheim theme park on the second day it was open in 1955. Star Tours allowed Disneyland to tap into the pop cultural phenomenon of the original Star Wars trilogy that had just wrapped up in 1983.

The alliance between Lucasfilm and Imagineering proved wildly successful. Massive crowds of Star Wars fans forced Disneyland to keep its gates open around the clock for three straight days when Star Tours debuted in 1987.

Walt Disney Imagineering takes a behind-the-scenes look at Disneyland’s Star Tours ride in the new 10-episode “Behind the Attraction” series, debuting on Disney+ on Wednesday, July 21.

SEE ALSO: ‘The Imagineering Story’: After Walt Disney’s death, Imagineering wonders ‘What Would Walt Do?’

The first five episodes dropping on Wednesday focus on Star Tours, Jungle Cruise, Haunted Mansion, Space Mountain and Twilight Zone Tower of Terror/Guardians of the Galaxy — Mission: Breakout. Future episodes will feature It’s a Small World, Hall of Presidents/Great Moments with Mr. Lincoln, the Disneyland Hotel, Disney theme park castles and Disney trains and monorails.

Walt Disney wanted Tomorrowland to be “science factual” — which meant the attractions in the futuristic themed land quickly became outdated. A Star Wars ride based on the science fiction space saga promised to be more timeless and a big draw for fans of the original film trilogy.

Imagineers weighed a series of options for a Star Wars ride at Disneyland — including a roller coaster, thrill ride and an attraction where riders would make choices that would determine the outcome of the journey.

“We were getting pretty scared,” Imagineer Tony Baxter said in the Disney+ episode. “How are we going to deal with this? How do we create a galaxy far, far away?”

SEE ALSO: Imagineer Joe Rohde reflects on 40 years of dreaming up Disney theme park attractions

Imagineering found a solution at a company called Redifussion in London that made flight simulators for pilots. There were only two problems: Reliability and nausea. The Imagineers broke the system by putting the flight simulator through a rigorous set of tests — and riding the motion simulator required regular doses of Dramamine.

“It pretty quickly made you motion sick,” Imagineer Tom Fitzgerald said in the Disney+ episode. “That turned out to be an art and a science that we had not mastered that we had to master at Imagineering so that it is fun and not nauseating.”

The “Behind the Attraction” episode shows video footage of the actuator legs beneath the Star Tours simulator moving the ride vehicle 15 feet in four directions — up, down, left and right.

Imagineers developed three options for a Star Wars ride — a military training-style dog fight, a point-of-view experience where riders play the role of Luke Skywalker and an intergalactic tour company called Cosmic Winds. The third option morphed into the Star Tours backstory that takes riders on trips to Star Wars planets.

SEE ALSO: Disney Imagineer Kevin Rafferty’s journey from Disneyland dishwasher to Cars Land designer

The biggest challenge Imagineers faced with Star Tours was creating a point-of-view perspective for riders through the front “window” of the StarSpeeder ride vehicle.

“You have to film something to match what the simulator can do,” Baxter said in the episode. “We learned we were going to have to create the content around the limitations of what the machine could do rather than the other way around.”

Scenes in the “Behind the Attraction” episode show rare footage of the 1987 Star Tours opening ceremonies with a “Darth Vader ballet” where Han Solo and Princess Leia danced together.

The release of the “Star Wars” prequels gave Imagineering the opportunity to update Star Tours with new storytelling, technology and 3D visuals in 2011. Imagineers took a “slot machine approach” to the storytelling that allowed for more than 50 story combinations.

The “Behind the Attraction” episode ends by making a connection between Star Tours and Millennium Falcon: Smugglers Run . The Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge motion simulator relied on another Tomorrowland attraction for inspiration — Carousel of Progress, where the audience moved in their seats around a series of stages.

“When you cross that threshold into the cockpit of the Falcon you’re actually walking into a Carousel of Progress,” Imagineer John Larena said in the episode.

According to some sources, the total length of Metro-2 reaches over 150 kilometers.

The Museum was opened on Sportivnaya metro station on November 6, 1967. It features the most interesting models of trains and stations.

Coffee Ring

The first scheme of Moscow Metro looked like a bunch of separate lines. Listen to a myth about Joseph Stalin and the main brown line of Moscow Metro.

Zodiac Metro

According to some astrologers, each of the 12 stops of the Moscow Ring Line corresponds to a particular sign of the zodiac and divides the city into astrological sector.

Astrologers believe that being in a particular zadiac sector of Moscow for a long time, you attract certain energy and events into your life.

Paleontological finds

Red marble walls of some of the Metro stations hide in themselves petrified inhabitants of ancient seas. Try and find some!

The race starts with a very short 2.3km prologue which will be contested by the overall favorites, keen to install a pecking order early on, and the short TT specialists looking for a chance to gain a leaders jersey in a big stage race.

Stage one follows the next day and it’s a lumpy 165.7km from Château d’Oex to Fribourg which will likely end in a sprint finish, although there are very view big name sprinters on the start sheet.

Stage two is where the GC action will really kick off with two huge mountains and a summit finish at Salvan/Les Marécottes. This 10km final ascent, averaging 7.3%, has slopes maxing out at 14% so will be a proper test for the climbers.

Those same climbers will the next day have to take on the 15.5km continuously undulating time trial around Oron and utilise another skill needed to win a stage race.

Stage four from Saillon to Leysin is 151.7km and takes the riders into higher territory with five classified climbs including the 10km summit finish at the end.

After this the GC battle should be stitched up with just the laps around Vernier to contend with on the final stage which will likely end in a sprint.
