We Can't Get Over Suri Cruise's Incredible Height Transformation

Suri Cruise has been a household name since before she was born. As the daughter of Tom Cruise and Katie Holmes, Suri  inevitably grew up in the public eye. And she has done a lot of growing, seemingly surpassing  Tom in height . But we got to see a lot more of her when she was little, as she became the object of intense interest as part of the media's obsession with her parents' whirlwind relationship. After all, she was born about a year after Tom and Holmes started dating in April 2005. 

Before she could even sit up, 5-month-old Suri was gracing the cover of Vanity Fair donning Dior socks. Back then, Tom and Holmes had no issues gushing over their child, each blaming her cute traits on the other. "She has Kate's lips and eyes," he said. "I think she looks like Kate." the "Dawson's Creek" alum disagreed. "I think she has Tom's eyes," she said. "I think she looks like Tom." But things have changed a whole lot since the good ol' TomKat days.

Following Tom and Holmes' messy divorce in 2012, Suri largely retreated from the spotlight. She has her mom to thank for that. "She was so visible at a young age," she told Glamour in 2023. After the interest in Holmes' marriage to Tom dwindled, she attempted to change that. "I really like to protect her," she said. However, glimpses of Suri have been captured over the years, showing she grew up to be tall.

The media was obsession with little Suri

Constantly photographed with Katie Holmes and Tom Cruise, Suri Cruise was captured in many a candid moment, like having a taste of rainwater in New York in February 2010, as seen above. And if you're wondering if her parents were responsible for the 4-year-old's choice of red coat over a dress with tights, you'd be wrong. "Whatever she wants to wear, she wears it ... She's got great taste, too. She tells me what to wear," Tom told Oprah in May 2010.

While the interest in Suri was overwhelming, they made the best of the situation. "We don't get nervous about it. You get used to it after so long," Tom said. He believed it was inevitable to expose Suri to the reality of her parents' lives. "We're raising her to — you know... protecting her, but also you don't want her to be sheltered in any way," he said in 2009, according to  RTE .

Tom and Holmes clearly had differing views on parenting. She wanted Suri to have a childhood similar to her own. "I try to do what [my family] did for me for my little one," she previously said on the "Today" show, per  E! News . Tom, on the other hand, didn't seem to mind the attention being paid to his daughter. "It's both very flattering ... and you kind of go, 'It is what it is,'" he said on "The View" in 2009 (via People ).

Suri Cruise was still a tiny tot when her parents divorced

Suri Cruise may have stopped appearing in Annie Leibovitz's photoshoots by the time her parents divorced. Still, the 6-year-old continued to garner paparazzi attention wherever she was out and about with Katie Holmes, as seen above matching with her mom in New York in July 2012. Wearing a pink dress and red ballerina shoes, Suri stood past Holmes' waist, even though she had on heeled boots complementing her choice of pink shirt and skinny jeans.

While Suri was most often photographed next to her mother, she drew even more attention when she was seen with Tom Cruise. At least in the months that followed the split, Tom still spent time with Suri. On July 17, 2012, he flew to New York for his first known visit with Suri after he and Holmes settled their divorce the week before. The following day, Tom famously took Suri for a helicopter ride over the city for a memorable father-daughter time.

But those days were numbered. According to Us Weekly , Tom was last seen publicly with Suri in 2013, when she was 7. The reality away from the paparazzi cameras doesn't seem to be much different. Tom has reportedly not seen his daughter in more than a decade. "Every person is allowed to see their child if they wanted to," a source told the outlet, explaining he is entitled to see her for 10 days a month. "He chooses not to because she is not a Scientologist."

Suri Cruise started accompanying mom to events more often

As time went on and TomKat became old news, Katie Holmes seemingly felt more comfortable taking Suri Cruise to high-profile events. In September 2015, Holmes brought the then-9-year-old onto the stage to wave at the crowd before she gave her speech. Suri's brief appearance onstage showed how much she had grown in three years. Holmes barely had to bend her knees to get close to her daughter's face.

Earlier that year, Holmes had also taken Suri to the Nickelodeon Kids' Choice Awards, where mother and daughter had a blast throwing confetti around. A year later, Holmes also took Suri to see the Broadway musical "Finding Neverland" with her grandmother, Kathleen. That December, Holmes even shared a selfie featuring Suri on Instagram to mark her 38th birthday. It looks like Holmes found a happy medium between protecting her daughter's right to a normal(ish) childhood and her life as a public figure.

That's not to say Suri's relationship with Tom Cruise had stopped attracting attention. In June 2016, many were quick to note that Suri spent Father's Day in the company of her mother at Serafina East Hampton, though she didn't seem to mind. "Suri and her friends were playing, and running around the restaurant," a source told Page Six . Tom, for his part, spent Father's Day in Morocco, where he was shooting "The Mummy." Earlier that month marked 1,000 days since Tom had last seen his youngest kid.

At 12, Suri was communicating more with Tom Cruise

By December 2017, 12-year-old Suri Cruise showed she wasn't far from becoming a tall teenager. Suri showed off her height transformation at Z100's iHeartRadio Jingle Ball (as seen above). Even though Holmes, who is said to be 5 feet 9 inches, was still a bit taller, her preteen daughter still reached up to her shoulders. Suri had just turned 12 the previous April, a milestone that was said to have been missed by her father.

Suri reportedly hoped he would attend her party. "Like any little girl, her greatest wish is for her father to be there, and now she's been disappointed again," a source told Star, according to  YourTango . However, Cruise supposedly had wished her a happy birthday. "Suri gets a gift from Tom on her birthday every year and this year was no exception," an insider told Hollywood Life in April 2018.

By then, Tom was said to be trying to mend his relationship with Suri, taking steps to have a more active role in her upbringing. "Tom's been in contact with Suri more and more over the last few months and has made it clear that he wants to be part of her life again," a source told Grazia U.K. (via InTouch ). However, other sources indicated that Suri had made her peace with her father's absence by then. "[She] has to have accepted the fact that she's in a single-parent family," an insider told InTouch .

Suri Cruise is about as tall as Katie Holmes

As a full-fledged teenager, Suri Cruise looked a couple of inches shorter than Katie Holmes, as seen above arriving at the premiere of "In The Heights" on June 9, 2021, in New York City. Between then and 2024, she seems to have added another inch or two to her height. In  photos  taken in February 2024, just two months ahead of her 18th birthday, Suri looked about the same height as her mother, suggesting Tom Cruise's relatively short stature didn't bring down the average of his offspring. And by the looks of it, Suri has grown taller than him, who is said to be 5 feet 7 inches.

But the last couple of years didn't compare to the growth she experienced between 2018 and 2021. That's not unusual, though. Girls tend to have a growth spurt around the time they reach puberty, which is between 11 and 12 for most preteens, according to  Medical News Today . By the time of their 15th birthday, girls are expected to have reached their adult height, as seems to have been the case with Suri.

Holmes' height isn't the only thing Suri inherited from her. As observed since the days she told Tom what to wear, Suri is as into fashion as Holmes, known for her sleek street outfits. Suri even wants to pursue a career in fashion, a source told the  Daily Mail  in 2023. As per their  divorce settlement ,  Tom is expected to pay for Suri's college .

The 14-year-old was spotted out enjoying a day of shopping in the swanky SoHo area of New York City with her 42-year-old mother Katie Holmes on Friday.

To ward off the coronavirus , both Katie and Suri made sure they were protected by wearing matching white disposable facemasks.

The duo was seen walking arm-in-arm through Washington Square Park, where they stopped to take pictures of a Christmas tree, and later enjoyed dinner at French restaurant Claudette on Fifth Avenue.

On December 18, Holmes‘s birthday, Emilio uploaded an adorable black-and-white photo of the new couple laughing with one another to Instagram.

Since the couple got together in 2020, the Dawson's Creek star has been a frequent guest at her chef-boyfriend's popular, family owned, Italian restaurant, Emilio's Ballato. 

Katie and Emilio reportedly met for the first time last year, though it wasn't until September that they launched their romance.

DailyMail.com confirmed exclusively on September 10 that Emilio broke off his previous engagement with his live-in fiancée Rachel Emmons, 24, via text when handsy photos of him and Holmes were first published.

Prior to being romantically linked with Vitolo, Katie spent years dating Jamie Foxx, whom she split from in 2019.

Katie and Jamie only went public as a couple in late 2017, though there had been speculation they were an item since 2013.

On Monday, December 18, the girls were seen out together in Manhattan to celebrate the actress' 45th birthday.

Suri Cruise is the only daughter of Tom Cruise and Katie Holmes.

In photos obtained by a news outlet, the 17-year-old — who allegedly hasn't seen dad Tom Cruise in years — was seen bundled up in a long gray peacoat, which covered up most of her outfit except for her black tights and black flats. She accessorized with an oversized white and maroon scarf.

The Dawson's Creek alum looked stylish in a floor-length black and sheer patterned dress with feathered cuffs, white coat and heeled white boots.

The actress lives with Suri in NYC.

The teen isn't seen out that often, which is just fine with her famous mother.

"What has been really important for me with my daughter , because she was so visible at a young age, is I really like to protect her," the brunette beauty explained in a past interview. "I’m very grateful to be a parent, to be her parent. She’s an incredible person."

The star and Tom Cruise split in 2012.

While Katie's offspring is reportedly planning to go to college, the TV star admitted she's "always" hopeful that Suri will want to do "something" on her films.

She got her wish in 2022, when Suri's cover of “Blue Moon" was featured in Alone Together , while the following year, Rare Objects included another tune sung by the high school student.

The Coda lead hinted she'd be a bit worried if Suri pursued Hollywood full time, but in these instances, she felt comfortable with the situation.

"Both of those [movie] experiences came out of the same sense of what I love about our industry, which is, you have these projects and you become a family with people," she said. "And it’s this safe, beautiful, creative space. So it comes out of love for me to include someone who I love dearly."

"That's how I like to work. I like to have that kind of feeling ," added Katie. "It was very meaningful to me to have her there, because she's my heart."

It's been reported that Suri and her dad aren't as close as they once were.

Earlier this year, Katie revealed her mini-me has indeed sat down and watched episodes of her breakout TV series Dawson's Creek.

"I think it’s probably weird since she’s a teenager . I’m not like, 'You need to watch mommy’s work.' But during the pandemic, we had a good laugh about it," the mom-of-one said. "It’s wild to have a daughter who’s almost the same age as I was when I began all this."

NEW YORK CITY, NEW YORK: It’s mom-daughter day out for Katie and Suri. March 29 saw Katie Holmes out and about in New York City with her daughter Suri Cruise , continuing her winning streak of casual-chic looks.

The 44-year-old ‘ Dawson's Creek ' actress went for a more environmentally friendly style by reusing a jacket and cap that she had already worn the previous week. She wore a striking puffy jacket in an eye-catching olive hue with a quilted pattern to stay warm in the chilly city.

A casual stroll

As they walked together, Katie and Suri appeared to be having a blast and were beaming from ear to ear. Tom Cruise's 16-year-old daughter, Suri also went with a casual appearance.

For the Catholic institution Fordham in New York, Suri was dressed in a gray hoodie, which she paired with loose-fit trousers and patriotic trainers. She carried a tote bag for the well-known bookstore The Stand and wore her black hair down in a loose way.

Katie maintained the low-key trend with loose gray Alo sweatpants and left her jacket unbuttoned, appearing to be wearing a white t-shirt underneath it. She also donned a large navy blue baseball hat over her long brown hair, which seemed to be wet, and kept herself comfy with a pair of white and beige moccasin-like shoes. A brown purse was the finishing touch to her ensemble.

Catching up with Katie

Katie and her teenage daughter used to watch vintage ‘Dawson's Creek' episodes to connect, she recently admitted to Variety . She said that during the height of the pandemic, the two dug into some of the previous episodes, but she emphasized that she didn't coerce Suri into it.

"She has seen Dawson's Creek and I think it's probably weird since she's a teenager," she explained. "I'm not like, "You need to watch mommy's work." But during the pandemic, we had a good laugh about it." The activity demonstrated how much Suri had matured. Katie's outing with Suri takes place in the midst of a busy period. While getting ready for the premiere of her third directorial, 'Rare Objects', she is also acting in the off-Broadway drama 'The Wanderers'. 

Julia Mayorga, who starred in 'American Rust', plays a young woman in the movie who is recovering from a traumatic event while working in an antique shop in New York. Katie makes an appearance as a troubled socialite who befriends the young woman after they first meet while she is receiving treatment in a mental institution. From April 14, 'Rare Objects' will be available for on-demand streaming and in a limited number of theaters.

TOM Cruise's daughter Suri Cruise has been spotted on the streets of Manhattan looking like a full-blown adult.

The 17-year-old was seen in New York's Soho while walking with some friends.

Suri is the daughter of actors Tom Cruise , 60, and Katie Holmes , 44.

She was wearing a black tank top and a knee-length denim skirt which gave early 2000s vibes.

She paired it with several silver bracelets and a black string choker necklace that had a large silver flower on it.

On her feet were black sneakers and tall white socks that were scrunched down at her ankles.

In August 2021, Katie and her lookalike daughter turned heads as they stepped out in New York City .

It was hard to miss that her daughter had a striking similarity to her actress mom in the early days of her career.

With her tall frame and long dark locks, the teen looked just like Katie when she starred in Dawson's Creek over 20 years ago.

On their Friday outing, Katie kept it casual in a cream T-shirt tucked into white pants. Suri wore red shorts and cropped tank top.

Enjoying her evening stroll with her only child, Katie affectionately played with her daughter's brunette tresses while they waited for a crosswalk to turn green.

FATHER-DAUGHTER RELATIONSHIP

Suri has reportedly not seen  Top Gun  star Tom in more than a decade after her mom divorced him when she was five.

Katie gained sole custody of Suri in 2012, along with a generous settlement that has Tom paying a reported £325,000 a year for his daughter’s care.

After the split, Katie took Suri to New York which was 2,400 miles away from LA -based Tom.

The actor has been accused of putting his religion before his daughter, with ex-Scientologists claiming he has been ordered to shun Katie and Suri as non-believers.

High-profile former church member Samantha Domingo, daughter-in-law of opera singer Placido, spoke about the religion in 2019.

Suri Cruise was photographed celebrating her 18th birthday in New York City while her estranged father, Tom Cruise, worked abroad in London.

According to pictures obtained by Page Six, the birthday girl stepped out in the rainy weather with a friend on Thursday. The pals chatted as Suri held a pink umbrella over their heads.

The teen, who is also the daughter of Katie Holmes, wore jeans, a denim jacket over a brown shirt and black shoes. She carried a blue backpack and held what looked like a birthday gift in her hand.

A day before Suri’s big day, her father, Tom, was spotted overseas in London filming a new project.

The “Mission Impossible” star, 61, flashed a wide grin as he arrived at a helipad and piloted a jet.

Tom and his youngest daughter have not had a close relationship over the past years. In fact, a source exclusively told Page Six earlier this month that the movie star has not seen Suri since 2012 (they were last seen together at Disney World that summer).

“Katie has safeguarded Suri and she’s a devoted mom,” the insider told us. “This is a girl who is a private citizen. She hasn’t lived her life in public.”

Holmes, who filed for divorce from Tom when Suri was only 6 years old in June 2012, previously told Glamour that she wanted to keep her daughter out of the public eye “because she was so visible at a young age.”

The 45-year-old also revealed in November 2013 court docs that she filed for divorce from Tom “to protect Suri from Scientology ,” a religion that is often referred to as a cult.

While it is believed that Holmes signed several non-disclosure agreements to prevent her from speaking about her marriage to Tom and the Church of Scientology, Suri will be free to discuss the religion and her father now that she is legally an adult.

Though it’s unclear whether the teen will publicly speak about her father, she won’t be joining Scientology anytime soon.

“Suri is not a Scientologist and never will be … she deserves love and sympathy,” former Scientology spokesperson Mike Rinder told Page Six.

Tom Cruise and Katie Holmes ‘ daughter, Suri Cruise , turned 18 earlier this month and is spending time with her mom, 45. The mother-daughter duo were recently spotted in New York City together following Suri’s birthday.

On Monday, April 22, Suri stepped out carrying what appeared to be an iced coffee alongside Katie, according to photos published by Daily Mail . For their day out, the teen wore a red maxi dress with a long denim overcoat and brown boots. As for Katie, she chose a pair of dark denim jeans with a green long-sleeved shirt for the outing.

Suri is rarely seen out in public. Up until now, she was legally a minor, and Katie preferred to keep her daughter away from the spotlight. However, the Coda actress shared a rare childhood picture of Suri to her Instagram in May 2021 in honor of Mother’s Day at the time. The image featured a then-toddler-aged Suri as Katie kissed her cheek.

“I am so grateful to be a mom to the sweetest daughter,” Katie captioned the post. “Happy Mother’s Day to all of the moms!!!!”

The former Dawson’s Creek star previously opened up about being a famous parent to a young child during a 2017 interview with Town & Country. While noting that this “business is so unstable, and you never really know where you’re going to be,” Katie explained how she made sure to protect Suri’s childhood.

“My child is the most important person to me, and her upbringing is paramount to my work right now,” Katie said. “It’s very important that I’m present and she has a stable, innocent childhood.
