The Weeknd is the stage name of Abel Tesfaye (born February 16th 1990), a Canadian alternative R&B singer of considerable critical acclaim and commercial success. He has released one studio album, a compilation album and three mixtapes since his debut in 2011.

Tesfaye dropped out of high school at age 17 and left his native Scarborough, Ontario for Toronto. He began his music career in 2009 by dropping tracks anonymously on YouTube. The Weeknd co-founded the record label XO in 2011 and released three mixtapes in the same year: House of Balloons, Thursday, and Echoes of Silence.

The Weeknd’s mixtapes began to make noise as people responded to his unique R&B style and mysterious identity. His three mixtapes were downloaded eight million times, an astonishing audience for an artist without even a debut album to their name.

In 2012, The Weeknd signed with Republic Records and re-released his mixtapes as a compilation album, Trilogy. The album was met with positive reviews from critics, and it reached number four on the charts in the US and number five in Canada. At the end of 2012, The Weeknd embarked on a concert tour to promote Trilogy.

He dropped his debut studio album, Kiss Land, in 2013. It debuted at number two on the US Billboard 200 chart and sold 95,000 copies in its first week.

After the release of Kiss Land, The Weeknd wrote a song for the film Fifty Shades of Grey. “Earned It” went on to win a Grammy Award for Best R&B Performance. The song was also nominated for an Academy Award for Best Original Song.

In 2014, The Weeknd collaborated with Ariana Grande on her song, “Love Me Harder.” It climbed to number seven on the Billboard Hot 100 chart. In September of that year, The Weeknd kicked off his first headlining tour at Barclays Center in New York.

In May 2015, The Weeknd released the second single from his upcoming album. “The Hills” entered the Billboard Hot 100 at number twenty and climbed all the way to the top, making it his first number-one single. The full album, Beauty Behind the Madness, dropped that August and reached number one in Canada, Australia, the UK, and Norway. The Weekend promoted the album by headlining several summer music festivals, including Lollapalooza.

Beauty Behind the Madness was certified double platinum in the US, selling 1.5 million copies worldwide. It was the most-streamed album of the year and produced three platinum singles. It also won a Grammy Award for Best Urban Contemporary Album.

Following this major success, The Weeknd embarked on his first arena tour. The Madness Fall Tour kicked off in his home country at Toronto’s Air Canada Centre.

At the end of 2016, The Weeknd released his third studio album, Starboy with an eponymous lead single featuring legendary French electronic duo, Daft Punk. After reaching number one in several countries, the song became the duo’s first chart-topping hit and The Weeknd’s third.

Debuting at number one on the US Billboard 200 chart, Starboy became The Weeknd’s second consecutive number-one record. It also took home a Grammy Award for Best Urban Contemporary Album, making it The Weeknd’s second win in that category. The album was certified four-times platinum by the RIAA.

In support of the album, The Weeknd embarked on the Starboy: Legend of the Fall Tour in early 2017. It kicked off at the Ericsson Globe in Sweden.

2018 was another big year for The Weeknd. In February, he collaborated with Kendrick Lamar on “Pray for Me”, a song from the Black Panther film soundtrack which peaked at number seven on the Billboard Hot 100 chart. The next month, Tesfaye released his first EP, My Dear Melancholy. Debuting at number one on the Billboard 200 chart, it became The Weeknd’s third number-one album.

In November, The Weeknd released his first greatest hits album, The Weeknd in Japan, with songs from the setlists of his 2018 The Weeknd Asia Tour.

In 2020, The Weeknd released his fourth studio album, After Hours. The first two singles, “Heartless” and “Blinding Lights,” both peaked at number one on the Billboard 100 chart. “Blinding Lights” also went on to become the first song in history to hold a top-ten spot for an entire year.

To date, The Weeknd has sold over 75 million records and remains one of the top-selling artists of all time. In 2020, Time magazine named him one of the most influential people in the world. His work toward racial equality and food security has also earned him the title of Goodwill Ambassador for the Global Food Programme.

In January 2022, The Weeknd released his fifth studio album, Dawn FM. He is currently promoting it on his After Hours til Dawn Tour. Catch him live through November 27.

The quintessential emotional artist, The Weeknd brings to stage an performance packed with passion and a desire to please the audience.

The first time I heard his mix tape "House Of Balloons" I instantly thought "damn this music sounds sexy." The production behind each track is practically flawless. What straps your ear to the speaker is the remnants of Michael Jackson mixed with a sound of James Blake streamlined into one perfect-pitch voice. The acoustics of Radio City (NYC) amplified his voice so well it felt like an invisible blanket wrapping you up in soft and warm harmonies. His stage energy is off the chart and he interacts with the crowd throughout his entire performance. I also found the concert production to be stellar, there were LED lighting panels that covered the entire stage re-creating the streets of Tokyo, Japan. The usage of cameras in the stage to project the image of the crowd and The Weeknd on the LED panels is another way in which he kept the audience sucked into his performance. If I didn't know better I would say his dance moves come straight out of a Michael Jackson video from the 90s. Soulful, lively, passionate, and a sexy sound is how I would have to sum him up. The Weeknd is a must see!

The Weeknd's music is very sexy and most likely aimed to women. His lyrics contain sexual content and his desires of what he would like to do to them. When you are there. Live. In front of him. It really does feel like he is singing to you! His band knows what he wants and knows how to please an audience. There's Japanese writings and visuals that were incorporated since it was the theme of his recent album "Kissland" The fans go wild and you can't help but go wild too!

The feeling of being there is intense! You even got to have a chance to meet him so he could sign your CD! This gives you ladies a chance to see him one on one! Of course the line will seem like its forever but it is definitely worth it. He inspires so many aspiring singers to go after their dreams.

His vocals were claimed to be "the next Michael Jackson" and I sure do agree! A very sexy and soothing voice and I really do think everyone is with me on this one! The vibe of being there is amazing and it is a privilege for anyone to go there!

This review might not be completely objective as Abel has been my favourite singer for a few years now. However, I can definitely admit the Starboy tour date in Paris was the best pop concert I've been to this year. Even though some songs could have been put out of the tracklist, he mostly sang his catchiest songs of his career, no matter the era. He has great, or should I say, tremendous energy as he continuously sang twenty-something songs with no pause in between. He has no trouble reaching high notes live, his voice sounding even more heavenly in real life. That night, he invited Travis Scott on stage who pumped up the crowd more than him, which is a shame and showcases very well his lack of success and recognition in France, yet, in a sold out stadium. Most people actually didn't even know his real name or the lyrics of his songs ! I would recommend any "real fan" who has known him for a while or who likes his last album a lot to go to a Starboy tour date. I promise you, you won't regret it.

I loved it! There were 3 openingsacts, which I thought were a lot but they were all really good! I really enjoyed Bryson Tiller, I really think he has great potential. But The Weeknd was everything. It was even better than I could imagine and I was thinking big. He did a lot of songs and everybody was singing along and everything just was so perfect. He sounded amazing and with one song he let us all sing and nobody could hit the high notes and he smiled so freaking cute. It went by so fast. Also it was quite funny how big of an age difference there was between the fans. There were elderly people, like a grandmother and her granddaughter together and this elderly couple,... Of course there were a lot of young people. And there also were young teenagers with their friends. Everything was organized very well. And I would definitely go again.

The concert was absolutely stunning. A starship was used and the lights were coordinated very well. Abel sang amazingly in person and I loved jumping up and down screaming with other members of the audience while he sang. The concert was truly magical and I enjoyed every second Abel stood on stage.

As for the other singers who appeared on stage, I was very satisfied with their singing as well. They did an amazing job and captured the entire audience. In between Abel's music, the other singers such as Lil Uzi and 6lack played their hits on stage and the whole crowd became even more alive. If I the concert played out any other way, I'm sure I wouldn't have enjoyed it as much as this concert.

This concert was awesome. The lines were a block away and round a corner it was crazy. We waited bout 2 hours but some waited even more. The weekend had a great live band with solos. I had made it to the near front on the floor.next time I will just be on the balcony because there was a lot of pushing going on throught the night. Not only that but it was like being in a sweat box. A lot of people were allowed to smoke ganja and there were drinks to be served of course. About two people passed on near me which is scary but predictable at a concert extreme as this one. Over all a memorable experience for me and my friends.

The Weeknd was my first official concert and will be my most memorable. The emotion of the songs live is so fulfilling just knowing he's right there in front of me, it's like some weird connection that I can't explain. He felt the song when he sang it and I think that is so unique, most artists sing it so much it's just putting on a performance for them but this was deeper than that. I wish I could relive that feeling again, where I get chills when he can hit that notes so well. I don't care if this review gets published, I just wanted to state how this concert felt.

This was such a great show!! I would definitely see him live again.

The show was awesome!!! No surprise, The Weeknd is even better live than he is on record! Nonetheless, his beautiful voice blows me away every time I hear him. Such a true, talented artist; one of the few left in our generation. Again the show was great, the only thing I wish was different was that I wish the show was longer than an hour & a half-2 hours and I would have loved to have heard some of his older songs!

The Weeknd is amazing live. His voice is incredible and he is beyond talented. Also, the stage production for the Legend of the Fall tour was unlike anything I've ever seen before. The Star Destroyer-esque prop moving above the stage was so cool. Loved every minute of it. Well worth the outrageous cost of the ticket for an obstructed view by the stage.

The Weeknd Announces 2022 North American Tour

The Weeknd has announced a 2022 tour in support of his most recent albums, Dawn FM and 2020’s After Hours . The first leg of the trek will see him perform concerts in stadia across the United States and Canada. The tour will feature special guest Doja Cat . According to a press release, there will be more concerts in Mexico, South America, Asia, Australia, New Zealand, Europe, Africa, and the Middle East announced soon. The Weeknd has also partnered with the United Nations World Food Programme (WFP) to launch the XO Humanitarian Fund, Powered by World Food Programme. The fund works toward ending the global hunger crisis. The Weeknd has donated $500,000 to the fund, according to a press release, and plans to contribute an additional $1 from each tour ticket sold. “The goal with this fund is to provide immediate life-saving support to people who are on the brink of starvation,” the Weeknd said in a statement. “I’m so thankful to have WFP as a partner and to further expand our reach to those who need it most.”

Last year, the Weeknd postponed his tour for the third time due to the pandemic . When explaining his reasons for doing so, the Weeknd promised the new version of the tour would be “something bigger and special for you which requires stadiums.”

After announcing the end of his After Hours era with “ Take My Breath ” last summer, the Weeknd revealed Dawn FM just a few days before its arrival last month. Swedish House Mafia remixed “ Sacrifice ” for an “Alternate World” edition of the project, which also included the joint track “ Moth to a Flame ” and Agents of Time’s remix of “Take My Breath.”

The Weeknd has been a busy collaborator in recent months, as well, appearing on new tracks with FKA twigs , Post Malone , and Rosalía , plus a posthumous release from Aaliyah . He unveiled his new immersive television special, The Weeknd x The Dawn FM Experience , through Prime Video in February

The Drake and Kendrick Lamar beef is quickly becoming the rap feud of the decade, and Toronto is catching a mix of shoutouts and strays as the city's culture is dragged into the heated drama.

Several music publications have already broken down the long-simmering beef between the two hip-hop heavyweights, and we are not going to even attempt to do that here today.

Instead, here is a brief summary of every key Toronto-related mention since the feud's major escalation last week and the rapid onslaught of diss tracks that followed.

New Ho King gets global attention

Perhaps the biggest Toronto mention came last Tuesday when Kendrick Lamar released diss track " Euphoria ," which criticized Drake and Toronto hip-hop culture, name-dropping late-night Chinatown restaurant New Ho King in the process.

The track, itself a response to a mid-April Drake diss track, resulted in the restaurant being showered in five-star reviews as its name trended on multiple social media platforms.

New Ho King was even part of Drake's return-fire diss track, which will be touched on more in a moment.

'Toronto mans' slang mocked

Toronto slang was another target in Lamar's "Euphoria," which featured the rapper delivering hyper-local phrases like "tell me you're cheesin', fam" and "crodie" in an exaggerated caricature of the regional dialect.

Drake films new video at New Ho King

Drake attempted to take ownership of the New Ho King mention, releasing a return diss track "Family Matters" on Friday night with an accompanying video featuring scenes shot in the Chinese restaurant and on the Gardiner Expressway.

The Weeknd gets called out by name

Drake went after fellow southern Ontario artist The Weeknd, a public salvo in what had been a vaguely referenced feud that has escalated since the latter's appearance on a track with Future and Metro Boomin where he referenced his decision to opt out of signing with Drake's record label OVO.

Drake refers to The Weeknd by his real name in "Family Matters," saying, "knew it was smoke when Abel hit us with the serenade, *** said, 'Uh, uh' almost started reachin' for my waist," before going on to attack the artist's falsetto singing style.

Bridle Path on Not Like Us cover

But Lamar wasn't finished with Drizzy, wasting zero time releasing another diss track directed at the Toronto rapper titled  " Not Like Us." The cover art for the track features a satellite view of Drake's Bridle Path mansion covered in (U.S) sex offender registry map pins.

Even people long removed from Toronto are catching strays, like a reference to former Raptors star Demar DeRozan in "Not Like Us," where Lamar says, "Deebo, any rap ****, he a free throw."

Dua Lipa pronouncing Toronto's second T in SNL sketch about feud

If it wasn't already evident that this feud has escalated to a level of notoriety well outside of hip-hop circles, hearing Dua Lipa pronounce Toronto's second "T" in a Saturday Night Live sketch was a painful addition to what was already a pretty rough night for the city .

The Onion publishes article where Drake invites Kendrick to a Toronto Tim Hortons

Sketch comedy parodies like SNL are just one sign of a story reaching that critical mass where even your 72-year-old suburban dad is aware of an ongoing rap feud.

Satirical '"news" site The Onion's spoof coverage of the Drake-Kendrick beef included a hilarious apology scenario where the two artists come together to work out their differences at a Toronto Tim Hortons location.

The home of The Weeknd's manager was targeted in a shooting days after he was mentioned in a diss track by Drake.

Last week, a security guard was shot outside the home of The Weeknd's co-manager, Amir "Cash XO" Esmailian in Encino, California. The shooting has raised more eyebrows in hindsight as fans wonder if it is connected to the public feud between rappers Kendrick Lamar and Drake . So far, no motive has been established.

The shooting took place at 2:25 a.m. local time on Monday, April 29. According to a report by Billboard , the unnamed security guard was on watch in a guard shack outside the building when he heard several gunshots, then realized he had been hit. He saw three suspects flee the scene, all men wearing hoods and masks. The Los Angeles Fire Department was the first to respond, and they transported the victim to a local hospital. His condition was described as serious but not fatal, and he was expected to make a full recovery.

The shooting was caught on Police confirmed that Esmailian was inside the home at the time of the incident, but couldn't say for sure whether the suspects ever entered the building. Other sources said that they believe this was an attempted home invasion, noting that Esmailian's house is currently on sale for $12 million.

Fans commenting on social media were more fixated on Esmailian's connection with the beef consuming the hip-hop world over the last few weeks. Esmailian is one of The Weeknd's managers and a co-founder of his XO Records. Drake took shots at The Weeknd and Esmailian in his diss track "Push Ups," released on April 19.

First, Drake referenced Esmailian in his lyrics, saying that he was previously a "lil' blunt runner" for a member of Drake's entourage. He then mocked both The Weeknd and Esmailian for leaving Toronto, rapping: "Claim the six, and you boys ain't even come from it." He also compared The relationship between The Weeknd and Esmailian to that of a pimp and a sex worker, rapping: "Cash blowing Abel bread, out here tricking / S- we do for b-es, he doing for n-s."

Still, the shooting at Esmailian's home got more coverage in hindsight after the beef escalated the following weekend with two more diss tracks from Drake and three more from Lamar. Fans also began to look more closely when a similar shooting took place outside of Drake's home in Toronto in the early hours of Tuesday morning. Again, a security guard was hospitalized in "serious but not life-threatening" condition, while the rapper himself went unscathed. Investigations of both shootings are underway, and in the meantime fans are only speculating.

The Weeknd has pledged another $2 million from his XO Humanitarian Fund to the World Food Programme’s humanitarian response efforts in war-torn Gaza.

According to a statement released on Monday (April 29), the money from the artist who now goes by his real name, Abel Tesfaye, will be used to provide more than 1,500 metric tons of fortified wheat flour, which can be used to make more than 18 million loaves of bread to feed more than 157,000 Palestinians for a month.

“We are very grateful for Abel’s continued support as WFP works to respond to the urgent hunger crisis in Gaza,” Barron Segar, WFP USA president/CEO said in a statement. “Hunger is a human-made problem, and as such, it is solvable. We have enough food in this world to feed everyone; all we need is the funding and safe access to make it happen. Thanks to Abel’s designation, families and children will receive the food they so desperately need.”

To date, Tesfaye, his partners and fans have raised more than $6.5 million for the Fund, with the singer directing $4.5 million toward Gaza relief.

The UN reported last week that after nearly seven months of Israeli bombardment WFP’s Geneva office director said , “People cannot meet even the most basic, food needs. They have exhausted all coping strategies, like eating animal fodder, begging, selling off their belongings to buy food. They are most of the time destitute and clearly some of them are dying of hunger.”

The weeknd's manager security guard shot in attempted home invasion, the weeknd's manager security guard shot ... in attempted home invasion.

The Weeknd 's manager Amir "Cash XO" Esmailian is currently dealing with the aftermath of a scary situation -- this after one of his security guards was shot multiple times.

Law enforcement sources tell TMZ ... the shooting occurred early Monday morning at 2:25 AM outside a home in the Amestoy Estates area of Encino, a Los Angeles suburb.

According to cops, the security guard encountered three males wearing hoodies and masks who had made their way onto the $12 million property that boasts 7 bedrooms, 9 bathrooms, and a "state-of-the-art security system.''

We're told after engaging the suspects ... the security guard soon heard gunshots and realized he was wounded.

Paramedics rushed the guard to a hospital and local reports say he's in critical condition.

Sources connected to the situation tell TMZ Hip Hop -- the shooting was a result of an attempted home invasion and Cash XO was unharmed in the incident. Cops say the suspects fled the scene before they arrived, and it's unclear whether they were wounded or not.

Cash co-founded XO Records with Weeknd and his other manager, Wassim "Sal" Slaiby in 2011 ... massive success since the launch. He's no small fry in the industry either ... Drake just dissed him by name on his "Push Ups" diss track.

Police are currently investigating.

Abel “The Weeknd” Tesfaye has donated $2 million from his XO Humanitarian Fund in an effort to provide 18 million loaves of bread to help families in Gaza.

The donation was made in tandem with the United Nations World Food Programme (WFP), which will provide 1,500 metric tons of fortified wheat flour to feed more than 157,000 Palestinians. It comes on the heels of a previous donation of $2.5 million from the Weeknd in Dec. 2023 . That funding provided 820 metric tons of food parcels to feed 173,000 Palestinians for two weeks. He is also calling on fans to provide donations to those in need in Gaza.

“With famine looming in Gaza, Abel’s generous support will provide vital relief for thousands of Palestinian families who battle the grip of hunger every day. We are tremendously grateful for his contribution, compassion and for his unwavering advocacy for WFP and the people of Palestine,” said WFP’s Director for the Middle East, North Africa and Eastern Europe Region, Corinne Fleischer.

“We are very grateful for Abel’s continued support as WFP works to respond to the urgent hunger crisis in Gaza,” said Barron Segar, president and CEO, World Food Program USA. “Hunger is a human-made problem, and as such, it is solvable. Otava Yo is a one-of-a-kind and unique band. Experienced folk musicians decided to create a slightly less serious than usual music project, without sacrificing traditional Russian sounds. The result was a formation balancing on the border of entertainment and historical references. The multi-million views of the clips and a few very well received records are proof that the folk has not died and is even very well. The musicians play traditional instruments, thanks to which the listener can immerse themselves in unique, often inaudible sounds and absorb them without restrictions. At the same time, all this is adorned with a great sense of humor. Interview with Alexey Belkin of Russian Folk Band Otava Yo

Otava Yo is one of the rising acts in contemporary Russian folk music. The Saint Petersburg, Russian-based band has an excellent new album available internationally titled “ Do You Love ”

The lineup includes Alexey Belkin on vocals, bagpipes, gusli, zhaleika; Alexey Skosyrev on vocals, acoustic guitar; Dmitry Shikhardin on vocals, fiddle; Yulia Usova on vocals, violin; Petr Sergeev on bass drum and darbuka; and Timur Sigidin on bass.

Otava Yo’s leader Alexey Belkin talked to World Music Central about the band’s background and the new recording.

Q: How and when was Otava Yo formed?

On the streets of St. Petersburg in 2003, where we decided to busk for fun. The feedback from audience was so great, so we started to busk in St. Pete on a regular basis. That time we were playing instrumental Celtic music. Only after 3 years of occasional street performing, we made a first record and perceived our selves as a band.

Q: What do you consider as the essential elements of your music?

We try to keep music live, in terms that we do not like to copy somebody’s ideas, we prefer to invent our own bicycle. If we see some great idea created by somebody else – it inspires us to make something too. Also, we try to keep the main idea of folk songs and do not complicate them. If it is funny cheerful dance song we would not make from it jazzy lounge R&B.

Q: Who can you cite as your main musical influences?

I can talk only for myself. I used to listen to lots of Celtic artists – Chieftains , Carlos Nuñez , Silly Wizard , etc. and also Scandinavian bands like Hedningarna , Garmarna . I love Latvian band Iļģi . Penguin Cafe Orchestra, Michael Nyman. All of them could make influence on my musical taste.

Q: Tell us about your first recordings and your musical evolution.

The first recording with Otava Yo we made in 2006. After all those sessions on the streets we decide to make live album with everything we played for that time. So, it was an instrumental album with just 1 song. Raw and live. No bass guitar and no even bass drum. Exactly how we played on the streets.

Three years later we made a new album full of Russian traditional songs, the most popular ones. And it was recorded with using all studio possibilities. We made nice arrangements and used more instruments than we can play live, invited some friends. So, it was fun to make that record and to see how good this music could be recorded.

The new album “ Do you love ” in 2018 took us a 6 months of work in studio. And I believe it is our most matured work for now.

Q: Even though you live in a city, your music contains elements of Russian village music. How do you find traditional rural folk songs?

Well, we live in cities, but some of us used to stay in countryside. I myself till 15 years old stayed in very small town in private house in suburb of St. Petersburg. I was able to go for a walk without seeing a single car, if I wanted I could make a campfire with my friends in my yard, so it was a happy childhood of a small town boy. But there was no folklore in my life. It was USSR and communists did everything they could to steal folklore from Russian population and to replace it with fake academic folklore. But in spite of this the folk songs are all over, all you need just to wish to listen to them. The most of the song we sing we just know. Some of them we found in ethnographic recordings or books. But we never went to ethnographic expeditions.

Q: Otava Yo uses various traditional Russian instruments. Tell us about them and how common are they now?

The most common – electric guitar and bass, the rest are quite rare. Well, to be serious, it is a problem now with getting Russian traditional instruments. You are not able to buy them in store, the only way to get such instrument is only to order it directly from the maker and then wait for a few months. I ordered my new Russian village bagpipe in May, and it is ready only now. But it is worth the wait. How common?… Well, not really.

Q: Who makes your traditional musical instruments?

Different makers. Some of them are from St. Petersburg, some from other cities. My zhaleikas mostly made by Anton Platonov and Dmitry Dyomin. Gusli by Alexander Teplov. The new Russian bagpipe by Vasiliy Ivanov. Also, I am waiting for the new gaita chanter with keys from Moscow’s maker Alexander Anistratov. All of them you may find on Facebook.

Q: Otava Yo is also known for making captivating music videos. Tell us about the process of making videos and who is involved.

We make them in picaresque way. I have directed all the videos we made. As far as I didn’t study how to shoot video, so I was not afraid to start to make them and just started to do it without understanding the details of the whole video production process. First two videos we even shot by ourselves, only starting from “Street cleaner” we have invited professional camera man.

The process – usually I start to think about the song for which I would like to shoot video. I listen to it more than a hundred times. Then I come up with the main idea and start to work on the script. Then with my partner Vsevolod together we write final script and plan all the shootings details including what kind of equipment we will use and where will rent it. Then we shoot 🙂

After shooting we edit it and make post-production.

Nothing special or unusual. The only important thing – I suppose if we would invite the professional director from the side the result would not be like what we have now, just because it is impossible to find, so folklore involved and oriented director in Russia or outside of it. So, I had to invent everything especially for Otava Yo. I suppose it is a unique product we made in a single copy, it is very difficult to duplicate. So that’s the whole secret.

Q: How’s the current traditional and contemporary folk and world music scene in Saint Petersburg and other parts of Russia?

To be honest, quite bad. The amount of folk groups which on regular basis can play the concerts is very little. The ones which could attract more than 100 listeners even less. We do not have infrastructure for world music. The quantity of world music festivals is also quite low. But I think it is changing a little bit and also with our help too.

Q: If you could gather any musicians or musical groups to collaborate with whom would that be?

Well, I like Hedningarna and Penguin cafe, I think we could make something interesting together. And Rammstein of course 🙂

Q: Do you have any upcoming projects to share with us?

We are getting ready for Christmas tour, which will happen in January 2020. Now we are in the middle of “Once upon a time” tour which is dedicated to 10-year anniversary of our second album “Once upon a time”. Ten more concerts to go.

We need to finish the new video clip, which we shot in August. I wanted to create an adventurous comedy video, and I hope it will work out as I planned. We have some ideas for our YouTube show “Zelyonka”, where we invite other musicians and play together. The last month we had a great guests from Sweden – Garmarna . We plan several other interesting acts within this show. And of course we are planning to work on new songs, and this is the most important thing for us now. The recent live video with new song “Zalivochka” which we just uploaded gathered more than 100K views just for 2 days; that means people look forward for new songs from us.

I love the music and your vocals.

I grew up with a lot of folk music in the 1950’s and 1960’s in the US. You are one of my favorite folk bands and I understand very little Russian.

I stumbled across one of your videos a few weeks ago and have watched dozens since!! I live in the US and it is unlike folk music that I have heard before, though your energy and spirit remind me of bluegrass and Celtic. Your joy in performing it is contagious and always leaves me with a smile on my face.

I’ve just discovered that a number of your videos offer subtitles – this has made viewing your performances even more fun.

What type of fiddle is Dmitry playing? The female fiddle players play more traditional violins, but his fiddle looks like it’s on steroids.

I live in the US. I usually listen to bluegrass and love music with lots of instruments. Started looking for folk music from other countries and found Otava Yo on YouTube. I am now addicted. It doesn’t matter if you don’t understand the words if the music is great. I also like Hrdza from Slovakia.

They are just amazing, turn in on 24th of December for their ONLINE Christmas concert at 7pm (Moscow time).

What Aleksy forget to say is that they keep alive not only Russian folklore but European folklore too.

In the 1970s, the beacon of light was in the West and the USA. Today it’s in the East. While westerners try their best to destroy their roots, Eastern nation celebrate them. Just read what Aleksey says about what the communists in the USSR did with traditional songs, and you know what the new USSR in the West tries to do in with the same.

Kendrick Lamar Alleges Drake Is Hiding a Daughter on Explosive New Diss Track “Meet the Grahams," Drake Denies It (UPDATE)

K. Dot released his new diss track just minutes after Drizzy unleashed "Family Matters," on which Drizzy claims Kendrick assualted his wife.

UPDATED 5/4/24, 2:44 p.m. ET: A source close to Drake denies the rapper is hiding a daughter, an allegation Kendrick Lamar makes on "Meet The Grahams."

On Saturday, TMZ reported that a source told the outlet the claim is nothing but “utter fabrication.” The source added that K. Dot is now losing the battle, as he’s using false information as ammo.

Drake previously denied the claim on his Instagram Stories.

"Hold on can someone find my hidden daughter pls and send her to me ... these guys are in shambles," he wrote after Kendrick's latest diss track was released.

Kendrick Lamar fired off another diss track titled "Meet the Grahams" just minutes after Drake unleashed his explosive response " Family Matters ."

On Friday night, as fans were just consuming the 6 God's fiery "Family Matters," Kendrick rained all over Drake's parade. The song has four verses and in each verse Kendrick speaks directly a member of Drake's family, starting with his son, Adonis, then his mother, his father, his alleged daughter, and finally Drake himself.

Graham, is of course, Drake's last name.

The most shocking member of Drake's family that Kendrick talks to is a daughter that the Toronto megastar is allegedly hiding. Kendrick's wording suggests the girl is at least 11-years-old.

Drake, however, was confused about Kendrick's claims and took to IG to say that he has no idea what the Compton rapper is talking about.

"Hold on can someone find my hidden daughter pls and send her to me ... these guys are in shambles," he wrote, adding laughing emojis for good measure.

Beyond the daughter revelation, the artwork for "meet the grahams" is noteable. It features the same Maybach gloves Kendrick used on "6:16 In LA," but the photo is more zoomed out and shows two bottles of pills, receipts, and other items that allegedly belong to Drake.

In the songs second verse, Kendrick talks to Drake's parents and attacks Drake's character, calling him a manipulator, a gambling addict, and compares him to Harvey Weinstein:

I'm blamin' you for all his gamblin' addictions Psychopath intuition, the man who like to play victim You raised a horrible fuckin' person, the nerve of you, Dennis Sandra, sit down, what I'm about to say is heavy, now listen Mhm, your son's a sick man with sick thoughts I think niggas like him should die Him and Weinstein should get fucked up in a cell for the rest they life He hates black woman, hypersexualizes them, with kinks of a nympho fetish Grew facial hair 'cause he understand bein' a beard just fit him better He got sex offenders on OVO that he keep on a monthly allowance A child should never be compromised and he keepin' his child around them

He ends that verse suggesting "The Embassy" (a nickname for Drake's house) will get raided soon.

Kendrick ends the song addressing Drake directly:

You got gamblin' problems, drinkin' problems Pill-poppin' and spendin' problems, bad with money, whorehouse Solicitin' women problems, therapy's a lovely start

Before Kendrick stole the show, Drake's "Family Matters" was picking up steam on social media. The 7-minute diss track finds Drake taking aim at Kendrick. He dropped off a music video where a maroon mini-van, a reference to the Dodge van on the cover of Kendrick's 2012 major label debut album, g ood kid, m.A.A.c city , gets destroyed at a junkyard.

The song itself finds Drake dishing out several bars to K.Dot in which he claims that he beat his wife, cheated on her, and his longtime friend Dave Free might be the father to one of his children.

"You the black messiah wifing up a mixed queen/And hit vanilla cream to help out with your self-esteem/On some Bobby shit I wanna know what Whitney need," Drake raps on the diss track. "They hired a crisis management team to clean up the fact that you beat up your queen/The picture you painted ain't what it seems."

Kendrick wasn't the only one who got dissed on the song. Drizzy also fired a round of shots at The Weeknd, Future, Metro Boomin, Rick Ross, and A$AP Rocky.

Jack Dorsey has entered the epic rap beef between Kendrick Lamar and Drake

• Jack Dorsey seems to support Kendrick Lamar's latest disses on Canadian rapper Drake.
• The former Twitter CEO liked a post on X calling "Euphoria" a "top-10 diss track."
• Dorsey's support for Lamar goes back years — he even appeared in one of Lamar's music videos.

The beef between Kendrick Lamar and Drake has been filled with unexpected characters, including pop sensation Taylor Swift and long-dead legend Tupac Shakur.

Now, Twitter and Block cofounder Jack Dorsey is weighing in — and it appears that he's got "PRIDE" for Kung Fu Kenny.

After a back-and-forth of three diss tracks between Lamar and Drake, Lamar released two songs this week. "Euphoria" dropped on Tuesday, and "6:16 in LA" dropped on Friday.

Both of Lamar's tracks received approval from super-fan Dorsey, who has recently liked both new and old posts on X and praised the Compton rapper.

"I will give people a couple weeks to realize Kendrick dropped a top-10 diss track of all time," one post Dorsey liked from Wednesday said.

The former CEO also replied Friday with a heart emoji to an old 2011 Lamar post advertising a Toronto concert on June 16. Toronto is Drake's home city, and some fans have speculated that the "6:16" in Lamar's latest diss references this post.

Dorsey didn't become a fan overnight. The former Twitter CEO has been a consistent supporter of Lamar's art. In 2015, Dorsey posted a video at a Lamar concert calling the rapper "the greatest."

He's also praised many of Lamar's records, including the Pulitzer-prize-winning "Damn" and his pandemic record "Mr. Morale & the Big Steppers."

"this is an opera. @kendricklamar is a poet and a teacher. I learn something new each listen...and I can't listen to anything else. constant spin," Dorsey said of the 2022 album.

At one point, Dorsey even toyed with the idea of Lamar becoming a potential Twitter board member in 2016, Vox reported.

Lamar reciprocated the love by bringing Dorsey on for 2022 music video for the song "Count Me Out." Dorsey makes a quick cameo by sharing a toast with Lamar and venture capitalist Aviv Nevo.

Lamar also worked with Dorsey's fintech company Block and Ticketmaster to offer fans early access tickets for his 2022 Big Steppers tour, Quartz reported.

Dorsey isn't the only unlikely character outside the music world to chime in on Drake and Lamar's ongoing saga.

Actor Uma Thurman nodded to Drake in April through an Instagram post featuring an image of her costume in Quentin Tarantino's "Kill Bill: Volume 1." In the film, Thurman played the katana-wielding, revenge-seeking "Bride."

"Need this? @champagnepapi," Thurman wrote as a caption in her story.

On Lamar's side, iconic soul singer Al Green approved of his latest track, which uses a sample of Green's " What A Wonderful Thing Love Is ."

It's an embarrassing development for Drake, who was roasted and promptly asked to remove one of his diss tracks against Lamar last week after Shakur's estate took issue with Drake's use of AI to recreate Pac's voice.

On Friday night, Drake released his latest response to Lamar: "Family Matters." In the 7-minute track, Drake mentions Lamar's longtime fiancée, Whitney Alford, and goes after Rick Ross, J. Cole, and The Weeknd.

Dorsey and spokespeople for Drake and Lamar did not respond to a request for comment from Business Insider.
