Rory McIlroy plays his tee shot on the second hole during the final round of the BMW Championship.

The FedExCup has whittled down its final 30 golfers based on season-long FedExCup rankings ahead of its final playoff event at the PGA Tour Championship at East Lake Golf Club in Atlanta, Georgia. Part of the unique format, which changed from the top 125 qualifiers to the top 70 this year, brings staggered scoring into play for the third and final FedExCup playoff event.

After Viktor Hovland ’s red-hot -9-under-par round on Sunday that propelled him over Scottie Scheffler and Matt Fitzpatrick at the BMW Championship, he’ll start Thursday’s first round at East Lake at -8-under-par since he jumped into No. 2 in the FedExCup rankings. Scheffler remains atop the FedExCup for the second consecutive year, where he managed a T2 finish one stroke behind Rory McIlroy . Other notable golfers with a significant head start include McIlroy at -7-under-par, Jon Rahm at -6-under-par, and Lucas Glover, who has won two of the past three events outright, teeing off at -5-under-par.

Before we get into our picks for the Tour Championship, make sure to take a moment to check out these awesome sports betting offers for this week. We have teamed up with OddsChecker to ensure that you claim $1000s in first-bet bonuses so that you can bet on these 2023 Tour Championship selections with more confidence this week.

The betting odds reflect this staggered scoring format, which is why Scheffler’s two-stroke lead has his outright odds so short at +150 on FanDuel Sportsbook. Recent FedExCup winners include McIlroy, with two victories since 2019, along with Patrick Cantlay , Dustin Johnson , and Tiger Woods.

Let’s find out when opening tee times will occur at the 2023 PGA Tour Championship and how to watch it. We’ll take a look at outright betting odds, then dive into a course overview of East Lake Golf Club before revealing the top players to bet outright to wrap up the 2023 PGA season with plenty of cash in our pockets.

Course Layout

East Lake Golf Club features a stock par 70 that runs roughly 7,400 yards in length. While there aren’t nearly as many narrow, doglegged fairways that we’ve grown accustomed to seeing in previous playoff events, there are plenty of water hazards, trees, and sand bunkers to wreak havoc. Golfers won’t get a par 5 until the sixth hole, which is relatively short at 520 yards, while the second par 5 is saved for the 18th hole, stretching nearly 600 yards.

The most iconic hole at East Lake has to be the par 3 on the 15th hole, which requires a 222-yard tee shot over a massive body of water to create an intimidating island shot with an iron. Three of the four par 3s are over 200 yards in length, so finding greens in regulation and maintaining close hole proximity will be key to climbing the leaderboard. It’s once again a course built for ball striking, with smaller greens than average, flanked by plenty of sand bunkers. Of course, getting into a rhythm with the putter can make the difference here with strong approach shots, as we just witnessed Hovland’s irons setting him up for consistent birdie attempts inside of 12 feet at Olympia Fields.

TOP PLAYERS TO BET IN THE OUTRIGHT MARKET: TOUR CHAMPIONSHIP WINNER

Rory McIlroy (+330) (Bet $100 to collect $430) FanDuel has the best Rory McIlroy odds

After a disappointing Sunday at the BMW Championship, Rory McIlroy still has a chance to win his third FedExCup in five years, starting at -7-under-par, three strokes behind Scottie Scheffler. It was a similar situation entering East Lake last year, but the Northern Ireland star went on a run to usurp Scheffler for an outright win. McIlroy is dialed in right now, recording nine consecutive T9 finishes or better since the PGA Championship in May. His strokes gained metrics are all ranked inside the top eight, minus putting, so at +330 odds, this is a good value to acquire on McIlroy attempting a three-peat at the biggest event of the PGA Tour season.

Jon Rahm (+850) (Bet $100 to collect $950) Go to FanDuel for the best Jon Rahm odds

Jon Rahm has not performed as well as he did earlier in the season, but he still benefits greatly from his body of work, starting at -6-under-par on Thursday. We all have witnessed Rahm’s ability to get hot from anywhere on the golf course, so it will only take one round to get him into a position to take the outright lead. He started -10-under-par at East Lake in the first two rounds before nosediving with a +2 score in the final two rounds, settling with a T15 finish last year. Rahm at +850 is solid, as he’s usually the first or second outright betting option. Let’s wager a unit on the Spaniard to piece it together to claim his first FedExCup title.

Xander Schauffele (+3500) (Bet $100 to collect $3,600) For the best Xander Schauffele odds go to FanDuel

Now we’re digging into some good value in the 35/1 range with Xander Schauffele. Well known for his ball striking and putting prowess, Schauffele has been relatively quiet in recent events, climbing into a T8 finish at the BMW Championship after a +1 round to start. The Californian ranks sixth in total strokes gained, including fifth on approach, 14th tee-to-green, and fourth putting. He’s got all of the traits to climb the leaderboard from his -3-under-par starting position, but it will require four rounds of consistency. I like sprinkling half a unit on Schauffele’s outright odds at 35/1 based on his fit with East Lake, where he went -12-under-par, including 11-under in the first two rounds last season.

Brian Harman (+6000) (Bet $100 to collect $6,100) Head over to FanDuel to get the best Brian Harman odds

We hit on Brian Harman’s outright win at The Open Championship at a ridiculous 120/1 odds, so 60/1 is nothing to be scared of. Harman is a pure ball striker, ranked 12th in driving accuracy percentage, 24th in strokes gained putting, and seventh in the edge of fairway distance. 23rd-ranked hole proximity is huge, as it sets the Georgia native up with makeable birdie putts. Harman is third in sand save percentage, which is another key piece to winning at East Lake, where he went -7-under-par after starting at -1-under-par in 2022. This year, Harman bumps his starting spot up to -4-under-par, giving him a significant edge to run the tables yet again. Let’s bet on Harman with half a unit at 60/1 odds.

Rickie Fowler (+9000) (Bet $100 to collect $9,100) FanDuel has the best Rickie Fowler odds

Rickie Fowler hasn’t competed in the Tour Championship since 2019, where he had a mediocre outing, failing to get under par in any of the four rounds. It’s been a much improved 2023 campaign for Fowler, who ended his four-year winning drought with an impressive clutch performance late at the Rocket Mortgage Classic. Fowler ranks 10th in strokes gained tee-to-green, eighth approaching the green, and 25th around the green. He’s also a top-40 putter and a top-30 driver and finds greens in regulation at over a 68.3 percent conversion rate. 90/1 is ridiculously mispriced for a player of Fowler’s talent, especially starting at -3-under-par. Let’s invest a quarter unit on the Californian to pull off the outright win at the 2023 Tour Championship.

Tour Championship odds, expert picks, sleepers: Expect Rory McIlroy to shine at East Lake again

OLYMPIA FIELDS, IL - PGA golfer Rory McIlroy plays his tee shot on the 9th hole during the final round of the BMW Championship Fed Ex Cup Playoffs on August 20th, 2023, at Olympia Fields Country Club in Olympia Fields, Illinois. (Photo by Brian Spurlock/Icon Sportswire via Getty Images)

The top 30 players in the final FedEx Cup rankings are headed to Atlanta for the Tour Championship at East Lake Country Club. Watching Tyrrell Hatton and Jordan Spieth wrestle with not being in control of their destiny while staying in the top 30 of the FedEx Cup standings on Sunday of the BMW Championship made for some great dramatic television.

East Lake Country Club has been the official home of the Tour Championship since 2004 and is a Donald Ross design that has been updated twice by Rees Jones, making it stand out from other Ross designs. The Par 70 layout measures over 7,350 yards and features tight fairways and fast greens. Last year it played easier than it had in years due to soft conditions. This year the temperatures will be into the high 90s throughout, with rain only expected on Sunday.

Scottie Scheffler comes into the Tour Championship in first place in the standings despite being in the middle of one of the coldest streaks of putting from a top-class player I can remember. He starts the tournament with a 2-shot lead on his next closest competitor, Viktor Hovland, and he will need that and more to hold off the field if he is going to putt the way he has all season. Scheffler struck the ball so purely from tee to green in 2022-2023 that he can be mentioned in the same breath as Tiger Woods during his historic run in 2000.

If Scottie Scheffler hits 62 or more greens in regulation this week, he will be the first player to finish a PGA Tour season with a GIR percentage of 75% or higher since Tiger Woods in 2000. — Justin Ray (@JustinRayGolf) August 21, 2023

Tournament winner (strokes added)

Tournament winner bets are tricky with how the Tour Championship is set up, but I think there is some value to be had in some of the bets. Here are the starting positions for each golfer this week and how the tournament works.

Viktor Hovland +500 won the BMW Championship with an amazing course record 61 on Sunday while shooting a 28 on the back 9. His putter was on fire all day and he managed to avoid the big mistakes he made the week before. Hovland starts the week only two strokes back from Scheffler and looks to be in complete control of his game. We cashed a decent ticket with him last week at +1600 and I don’t mind backing him again this week at +500 with a smaller bet.

Max Homa +3500 had a very interesting week at the BMW Championship. He had the stress of a fan helping to cause a major mistake and he also went low with a 62 to set him up to contend on the weekend. I don’t know if his accuracy issues will be a problem this week as he usually hits less than 60 percent of his fairways and driving accuracy is a key statistic each year at East Lake, but he did finish T5 here last year and these are good odds for a player in good form.

Tournament winner (no bonus strokes)

Rory McIlroy +550 has claimed the FedEx Cup title three times and looks poised to push for his fourth and become the first back-to-back winner as he tries to defend his title this year. My model puts him neck and neck with Scheffler by Sunday, even though Scheffler has a three-stroke lead on him before they even tee off this week. McIlroy has overcome five and six-stroke advantages the two times he has won since this tournament format was implemented in 2019. It did take a bit of a meltdown from Scheffler on Sunday in 2022 for him to win.

Jon Rahm +1000 hasn’t won a FedEx Cup Playoff yet. He has a share of the low gross alongside Kevin Na in 2021.

Top ten bet

Xander Schauffele -115 will start outside of the top 10 this week by 1 stroke, but has had an incredible record at East Lake Country Club, gaining over 32 strokes in his career. I don’t mind this number when looking for Xander to push for a top-10 finish.

Scottie Scheffler $13,400 gained more than 14 strokes from tee to green at the BMW Championship, but lost due to a faulty putter and an unbelievable round from Hovland on Sunday. Since the Arnold Palmer Invitational in March, he has gained more than 9 strokes from tee to green in every tournament he has played, except the St. Jude Championship. Scheffler and Rory are tough to fit into lineups this week, but you are going to have to pick one.

Rory McIlroy $13,000 has won the FedEx Cup Playoffs three times and has overcome large deficits in starting strokes in his last two Tour Championship wins. He is tied with Scheffler in my projections and rankings and we are getting him at a $400 discount. I’m leaning toward playing Rory more this week unless I see some crazy ownership projection on Wednesday.

Viktor Hovland $12,500 See above.

Max Homa $10,900 See above.

Patrick Cantlay $10,800 is a $2,600 discount from Scheffler and his accuracy off the tee and tee-to-green statistics put him right behind Hovland over his last 36 rounds, which places him as the fourth-best play this week. He lost in a playoff two weeks ago and played well at the BMW Championship despite having a really poor week on the greens. Xander will suck up so much ownership this week that Cantlay should be a nice pivot, even if you have to dip down into the 6K range at some point.

Xander Schauffele $10,500 See above.

Tommy Fleetwood $8,800 dropped off the pace a little last week and that gets us a nice $900 price drop for a course that might fit his game just a little better. Too many people will consider playing Sungjae Im in this price range, and Fleetwood would be a nice option for a pivot.

Sungjae Im $8,500 is coming off of back-to-back top seven finishes in the playoffs and gained strokes across the board last week. He finished T2 here last year in softer conditions and seems to enjoy playing in Florida and Georgia. I’m a big fan of Im and wouldn’t be surprised if he kept up his solid play this week. This price range will be key this week.

Russell Henley $8,300 has three straight top-ten finishes with gains across the board in every major statistical category, except a slight loss in putting at the BMW Championship. The Georgia native has to be excited to tee it up in the Tour Championship in Atlanta, finally.

Corey Conners $7,900 is getting hot at the right time and is coming off a nice T10 at the BMW Championship, where he gained 5.6 strokes tee to green. Conners hasn’t fared well at the Tour Championship, but he’s in such good form from tee to green that I don’t mind putting him in my lineups.

Tom Kim $7,900 looks healthy after injuring his ankle and is a nice statistical fit for East Lake Country Club. Kim has been riding a hot putter for the last few weeks which could give him the edge in this price range.

Tyrrell Hatton $6,900 finished seventh here in 2020 and has to be thrilled to be back this year after struggling a bit to close out the season. His statistics last week at the BMW Championship look like an outlier regarding his season. He lost almost 6 strokes from tee to green as the pressure of being on the edge of missing the Tour Championship may have gotten to him. I’m willing to give him a chance as it could be a freeroll for him after backing into the top 30.

Jordan Spieth $6,700 has struggled on approach the last two weeks, but this seems like a bit of a miss-price. His short game kept him afloat at the St. Jude Championship and may also play a big role this week.

Tour Championship odds 2023: Starting strokes make Scottie Scheffler a monstrous favorite at East Lake

1612240159

Keyur Khamar

Whether you like the starting strokes format or not, there's no debating that Scottie Scheffler has earned every single one of them with the phenomenal season he's had.

RELATED: Tour Championship 2023:   All 30 qualifiers and where they stand at East Lake

With his runner-up finish at the BMW Championship, the World No. 1 now has 11 finishes of T-11 or better in his last 13 starts. Yet none of those resulted in victories, his last win coming at the Players Championship in March. He may finally get that seventh PGA Tour win this week at the Tour Championship, where he'll begin at 10 under. The two-stroke advantage to start has made him a monstrous +150 favorite at the DraftKings Sportsbook.

BMW winner Viktor Hovland, who will start the week at eight under, two back of Scheffler, is actually the third favorite at +450. Rory McIlroy is sandwiched in between Scheffler and Hovland at +330. He will start his Tour Championship at seven under. The Northern Irishman is gunning for his fourth Tour Championship title, which would give him one more than Tiger Woods, the only other player with three.

Jon Rahm, who is at six under, is the only other player at single-digit odds (+750). There is a rather large odds jump after that, with Patrick Cantlay checking in next at 18-1.

Below are the odds for all 30 players in the 2023 Tour Championship:

TOUR Championship Betting Preview

The 2022-23 PGA Tour season concludes this week with the remaining 30 players heading to Atlanta for the TOUR Championship at East Lake Golf Club.

The TOUR Championship is unlike any other tournament, as Scottie Scheffler will begin with a two-shot lead at 10-under-par -- an advantage he earned as the leader of the FedExCup Standings heading into this week's event. Players are staggered from there, with Viktor Hovland checking in next at 8-under and the group of players who rank 26th-30th in the standings beginning at at even par.

Last year, Rory McIlroy took home the FedEx Cup with a one-stroke victory over Scheffler and Sungjae Im .

Course Characteristics

East Lake has been the host of this event every year since 2004, and it has proven to be a tough test for those still standing, with McIlroy's 17-under performance last year -- not counting starting strokes -- being the lowest winning score since 2017. The new format was adopted in 2019 to avoid having a winner of the tournament and a separate FedExCup Champion, and we haven't seen anyone starting outside the top 10 make up the deficit in strokes. A par-70 playing 7,346 yards, East Lake is a lengthy course, with the shortest par-3 being 197 yards and only three par-4s under 440 yards. Off the tee, players are faced with the narrowest fairways on Tour. They average less than 25 yards across and are surrounded by trees and challenging bermuda rough that make it difficult to find greens in regulation when hitting from off the fairway. Players will be forced to use driver most of the time and will see a lot of approach shots from 200 yards and up. As a result, I'm looking for quality ball strikers, good long iron players and those that avoid bogeys.

En Fuego at East Lake

The following golfers, with a minimum of two appearances, have the lowest scoring average at East Lake since 2018.

  • Xander Schauffele : 67.3
  • Rory McIlroy : 67.6
  • Scottie Scheffler : 68.0
  • Jon Rahm : 68.3
  • Sungjae Im : 68.6

Schauffele has saved his best golf for the season-ending event, as he is one of only two players who averaged fewer than 68 strokes per round over the last five years. He took home the trophy in 2017, posted the lowest gross in 2020 and finished runner-up both that year and the year before. Schauffele comes into Atlanta off a T8 result in Chicago in which he finished third in Strokes Gained: Off-the-Tee. He will have some ground to make up, as he begins at 3-under par. Another player who has had success here is Rahm. He enters following two playoff events he'd like to forget, as he failed to finish top-30 in either one. Rahm has been struggling off the tee, even dealing with a two-way miss at times. He checks in at 8-1, and at only four strokes back he is one of only a handful of players likely to find the winner's circle. If he can get right at the right time he is in position to take home the FedEx Cup.

Trending Off the Tee

These players, on a per-round basis, gained the most strokes off the tee over their last 20 rounds.

  • Scottie Scheffler : 1.01
  • Rory McIlroy : 0.92
  • Max Homa : 0.87
  • Patrick Cantlay : 0.76
  • Corey Conners : 0.71

Driving prowess is key at East Lake, and Scheffler certainly has the goods there, ranking first in SG: Off-the-Tee, 29th in distance and 46th in accuracy. With a two-stroke advantage before even hitting a shot, it's easy to see why he is listed at a meager +140. Scheffler looked to be in position to win the BMW Championship until Hovland charged on the back nine to steal the victory. Nevertheless, Scheffler enters in excellent form, having led the field in both SG: Off-the-Tee and Approach last week. The other player who finds himself on both lists is the defending champion and second favorite, McIlroy. He's a three-time winner here and has twice won since the new format was instituted, posting the lowest gross total each time. Although he was sporadic off the tee in Chicago he still managed a fourth-place result.

TOUR Championship Bets: O utright Picks

Max Homa (14-1 Without Starting Strokes)

Homa made his TOUR Championship debut last year and sure seemed to like the course, as his 265 cumulative total was bested only by McIlroy and Im. He has played really well off the tee lately, with a combination of length and accuracy leading him to three consecutive top-10 results.

Tommy Fleetwood (25-1 Without Starting Strokes)

It sure would be exciting to see Fleetwood pick up his first PGA Tour victory at such a marquee event. Considering he's starting seven shots back, that will be easier said than done. As a result, I'll pivot to him posting the lowest gross score. He has played so well this year, finishing top-10 in over half of his last 13 starts. He hasn't played East Lake since 2019, but his all-around game makes him a contender almost anywhere.

T OUR Championship Bets: T op-5 Wagers

Wyndham Clark (5-1 With Starting Strokes)

East Lake can be a tough challenge for first-timers, but Clark has super length and isn't too wayward with the driver, which is a recipe for success here. He will be tied for sixth to start, so he doesn't have nearly as much ground to make up as others.

Sungjae Im (9-1 With Starting Strokes)

Im will have to make a leap considering he's starting at just 2-under, but he did shoot 16-under here last year. After failing to post any notable results over the summer, he has come alive with back-to-back top-10s to start the playoffs.

T OUR Championship Bets: H ead-to-Head Matchups

Adam Schenk (-110) over Nick Taylor

I went 2-0 in matchups last week, and I'll try to end the season on a winning streak, albeit with just one pick this time around. I'm surprised Schenk isn't favored here. Neither golfer has played this venue before, but Schenk is longer and a slightly better iron player, and he has also fared better in the playoffs, besting Taylor the last two weeks and posting a T6 in Memphis. Taylor, meanwhile, has failed to post a top-15 since winning the RBC Canadian Open over two months ago.

tour championship betting odds

We’ve arrived at the final event of the 2022-23 PGA Tour season, the Tour Championship at East Lake in Atlanta. The top 30 in the point standings have made their way to the ATL ready to battle for the $18 million FedEx Cup bonus awarded to the winner.

After his co-runner-up finish at the BMW Championship, world No. 1 Scottie Scheffler will begin the tournament at 10 under, two shots clear of the man in the No. 2 spot, Viktor Hovland. Rory McIlroy, who has now finished T-9 or better in nine straight starts after a solo fourth at Olympia Fields, will begin three back at 7 under, while Jon Rahm starts at 6 under.

McIlroy chased down Scheffler last year to claim his third FedEx Cup, the only player who has achieved that feat (Tiger Woods and McIlroy are the only two players to win it more than once).

Schauffele will tee off Thursday seven shots behind Scheffler. It’s tough to see any scenario where he catches the Texan. However, most sportsbooks will have a “Winner without starting strokes” category.

This is where we can grab Schauffele.

In four appearances since the staggered start was introduced, Schauffele has finished 2nd (’19), 1st (’20), 3rd (’21) and 6th (’22) at East Lake without the strokes applied.

Long story short, this man dominates East Lake. You gotta have him on your card somewhere this week.

Rory McIlroy (+330)

Yes, I pick him every week. Get over it.

Since the staggered start began in 2019, McIlroy has won the event twice (’19 and ’22 without the strokes applied) and won the FedEx Cup both times.

He’ll begin three shots back, but McIlroy is used to chasing in Atlanta. In 2019, he started five back, and last year he began six back.

Max Homa (+1400, without starting strokes)

2023 BMW Championship

Homa finished third (without the starting strokes) at the 2022 Tour Championship, his first trip to East Lake.

He’s in great form, finishing T-6 at the FedEx St. Jude Championship and T-5 at the BMW Championship in his last two starts.

Like with the Schauffele pick, Homa is probably starting too far back (4 under) to love him outright. However, his odds are 14/1 without the starting strokes. Love that for the card.

Zurich Classic Betting Preview: Odds, Prediction, Long Shot Bet, Team to Fade and Outright Winner Pick

  • Author: Brian Giuffra

In this story:

The only PGA Tour team event of the season (think laidback Ryder Cup vibes) is here and it’s chock-full of powerhouse tandems to consider betting on.

Rory McIlroy and Shane Lowry, Xander Schauffle and Patrick Cantlay, Will Zalatoris and Sahith Theegala headline the field this week, but we're not betting on them, choosing instead to focus on a team of brothers.

Before betting, it’s important to remember this is a unique format. There are two days of fourball, known as best-ball, played in Rounds 1 and 3 and two rounds of foursomes, known as alternate shots, in Rounds 2 and 4.

Last year’s winning team of Davis Riley and Nick Hardy shot 30 under for the week, so we must pick duos who can go low in each format.

Who are they? Let’s break it down starting with the Top 10 teams in odds, which come from DraftKings Sportsbook, followed by our longshot pick, the team to fade and outright winner.

Zurich Classic Odds

Patrick Cantlay / Xander Schauffele +400

Rory McIlroy / Shane Lowry +700

Will Zalatoris / Sahith Theegala +800

Collin Morikawa / Kurt Kitayama +1200

Rasmus Højgaard / Nicolai Højgaard +2200

Tom Hoge / Maverick McNealy +2500

Matt Fitzpatrick / Alex Fitzpatrick +2500

Taylor Pendrith / Corey Conners +2800

Nick Taylor / Adam Hadwin +3000

Sepp Straka / Brice Garnett +4000

Keith Mitchell / Joel Dahmen +4000

Doug Ghim / Chan Kim +4000

Billy Horschel / Tyson Alexander +4000

Zurich Classic Long Shot Pick: Billy Horschel / Tyson Alexander +4000

There’s no shortage of star power atop the leaderboard, but a team capable of competing this week that’s flying under the radar is Billy Horschel and Tyson Alexander at +4000 odds.

Horschel just won the Puntacana Championship with a 23-under total highlighted by a 63 on Sunday. He’s always been a streaky player and I’m counting on his hot streak continuing at an event he’s had success at before.

Horschel won this event when it was played as an individual tournament and won it another time as a team. He’s placed second twice and tied for fourth once here. Last year, he placed 11th with Sam Burns.

Alexander is not as well known and doesn’t have as strong of a history at the Zurich, but he’s off to a good start this season (has made three straight cuts) and had his best start of the season three weeks ago at the Texas Open. He's also 49th on tour in shots-gained: putting, an important stat this week, especially in alternate shot.

Winning back-to-back events is tough, but Horschel’s hot and he wouldn’t have picked Alexander as his teammate in an event he has a history of success at if he didn’t think they could win.

Zurich Classic Team to Fade: Rasmus Højgaard / Nicolai Højgaard +2200

Nicolai Højgaard was leading the Masters outright Saturday afternoon before a disastrous back nine 40 ended his chances of winning. He followed that up with a 4-over 76 on Sunday and just missed the cut at the Puntacana Championship.

Overall, he’s missed three cuts in his last five events and was T-75 in another with a +5 total score. His run at Augusta seems more an apparition when taking a macro view of his recent form.

Nicolai is playing with his twin brother, Rasmus, who withdrew from the Indian Open after an opening-round 79. Rasmus does have three Top 10s on the DP World Tour this season, but the most recent one came in February.

Recent results suggest both brother’s forms are regressing heading into this one. While being together could lighten the mood and improve their play, the +2200 odds are not good enough to warrant a bet.

Zurich Classic Pick to Win: Matt Fitzpatrick / Alex Fitzpatrick +2500

After fading one brother duo, why not back another, huh?

Matt Fitzpatrick is ranked ninth in total driving on the PGA Tour, 26th in total putting, 15th in birdie average per round and 11th in birdie percentage on Par 5s. He finished fifth at the Players and 10th at the Texas Open, was in contention at the Masters early and just shot four rounds under par at the RBC Heritage.

Alex finished T23 at the Corales last week with four rounds under par including a Sunday 67. He missed the cut at the Indian Open at the end of March, but has been steady on the DP World Tour this season, with six Top 20s in nine events. Like his brother, Alex is a solid driver and strong putter.

Last year, the Fitzpatricks finished T-19 at the Zurich, with two rounds of 62 during fourball and rounds of 71 and 74 in alternate shot. If they can make up some strokes in the latter format, they’ll be in contention this week, because both make a ton of birdies off their own ball.

Odds refresh periodically and are subject to change.

How it works: Each week, our experts from PGATOUR.COM will make their selections in PGA TOUR Fantasy Golf. Each lineup consists of four starters and two bench players that can be rotated after each round. Adding to the challenge is that every golfer can be used only three times per each of four Segments.

Aside from the experts below, Golfbet Insider Rob Bolton breaks down the field at the Zurich Classic of New Orleans in this week's edition of Power Rankings .

Betting picks

WILL GRAY (Lead, Fantasy & Betting)

  • Winners: Nick Taylor/Adam Hadwin (+2800) – Two proven TOUR winners that will be looking to channel some good Presidents Cup vibes. I remain impressed with Taylor’s grasp of clutch moments and think these two could have the right resolve in crunch time.
  • Top 10: Taylor Moore/Matthew NeSmith (+300) – An eye-catching price on a pair that finished T4 here each of the last two years and now has double the margin for error to still cash a placement bet.
  • Longshot: Dylan Wu/Justin Lower (+6600) – Lower is someone that I think is trending toward a breakthrough, including a T4 finish last week in Punta Cana while Wu has been largely solid this spring.
  • H2H: Taylor/Hadwin (-110) over Sepp Straka/Brice Garnett – Like Matt, I’m going to run it back with my winner’s pick in the head-to-head market as I’ll happily back the Canadians over a duo that has been more erratic in recent weeks, particularly Garnett outside of his Puerto Rico win.

BEN EVERILL (Senior writer, Fantasy & Betting)

  • Winners: Schauffele/Cantlay (+450) – I’m not a fan of advocating these short odds but this smells of a few years ago where these two can play their way back into full confidence ahead of the rest of the season.
  • Top 10: Nicolai Højgaard/Rasmus Højgaard (+210) – One of three sets of brothers in the field this one brings firepower and winning gravitas from the DP World Tour. This is a preview for future Ryder Cups …
  • Longshots: Pierceson Coody/Parker Coody (+10000) – Let’s keep the brotherly love going. They have the teamwork side of things down pat and many a good judge from the lower leagues of golf suggest these two are stars in the making with clearly a good pedigree in the sport.
  • H2H: Højgaard/Højgaard (-110) over Matt Fitzpatrick/Alex Fitzpatrick – As good as Matt Fitzpatrick is, I’m still waiting to see more from Alex. He was awesome at The Open Championship last year but struggled a bit in this event leaving me to trust the Højgaards.

CHRIS BREECE (Senior content manager, Golfbet)

  • Winners: Schauffele/Cantlay (+450) – It’s one of those weeks where I feel like overthinking things is a bad idea. Both players have shown they are making progress towards getting back to the top of their games. Both are also hungry for a win. With so many random pairings out there, I’m willing to take the short odds.
  • Top 10: Collin Morikawa/Kurt Kitayama (+115) – Morikawa has gotten things figured out. Though Kitayama hasn’t lived up to the standards of his Arnold Palmer Invitational win presented by Mastercard last year, he’s playing consistent golf right now with a Top 40 in nine of his 10 starts in 2024.
  • Longshot: Nick Hardy/Davis Riley (+5500) – The winners here last year. They’ve proven they love the team format and will find that spark again.
  • H2H: Taylor/Hadwin (-110) over Straka/Garnett – The pair finished second last year. Taylor has a win this year. Hadwin has two top-fives in his last six starts.

MATT DELVECCHIO (Social content manager, Fantasy & Betting)

  • Winners: Davis Thompson/Andrew Novak (+4500) – It’s hard to find a pairing where both players are in good form. Novak was red hot in February and Thompson has had solid showings late March through early April. I trust the two of these guys will be able to lean on each other's ball-striking and put up a ton of birdies.
  • Top 10: Corey Conners/Taylor Pendrith (+225) – Both of the Canadian pairings have a lot to like but I’ll lean Conners/Pendrith over Taylor/Hadwin.
  • Longshot: Garrick Higgo/Ryan Fox (+6600) – The hope is that Fox can motivate Higgo to put together some great scoring this week. Fox has obviously been great recently, it's Higgo who is the wild car. I trust the team format brings some good play out of him.
  • H2H: Thompson/Novak (+105) over Doug Ghim/Chan Kim – Running back my winner in the matchup (could come back to hurt me).

Scottie scheffler’s pga tour dominance continues with 2024 rbc heritage victory.

The world’s top-ranked golfer is dominating the PGA Tour. Scottie Scheffler won the RBC Heritage at Harbour Town Monday morning following a weather delay and restart late Sunday—his fourth win in his last five starts. He added a tartan plaid jacket to his second green jacket at The Masters , which followed wins at The Players Championship and Arnold Palmer Invitational .

Scheffler carded an 8 under par 63 on Saturday to take a 1-stroke lead over Sepp Straka and 2 strokes ahead of his final round playing partner at The Masters, Collin Morikwa. Both those players shot a 1 over par 72 in the final round to fall back.

Scheffler entered Sunday’s final round as the -165 favorite on FanDuel Sportsbook to win the tournament with Straka and Morikawa both +650 and Masters runner-up Ludvig Aberg +1100 sitting 3 shots behind. Scottie was +450 to win at the start of the RBC Heritage .

Golf’s 27-year-old superstar was 3 under par through 11 holes Sunday and 19 under par with a 4-shot lead over six players when play was suspended before resuming 2 1/2 hours later at 7 p.m. ET. Scheffler played three more holes and took a 5-stroke lead into Sunday evening as play was suspended for darkness.

Early Monday he finished off the $20 million signature event with a 3-shot victory at 19 under par to earn another $3.6 million and take his season total to over $18 million. His bogey on the 18th hole ended a streak of 68 consecutive holes at par or better. Sahith Theegala finished second while Patrick Cantlay and Wyndham Clark T3 and Justin Thomas part of a 4-way tie for fifth.

Justin Ray, golf Lead Data Analyst, added a number of posts on X to show Scheffler’s run of dominance. Beyond Scottie being the last player since Tiger Woods in 2008 to win four times in a five-start stretch on the PGA Tour, this post about Scheffler holding the lead following a round 31 times on Tour the past three seasons speaks to Scottie’s spectacular play and dominance. The next closest player to have led or co-led following a round is 16 times.

Scheffler ramains the No. 1 ranked player in the Official World Golf Rankings for the 49th consecutive week. His win at Harbour Town was also the 10th of his career on Tour. It took him 51 tournaments to win his 10th PGA Tour title following his first win. Tiger Woods did it in 59 events with David Duval the fastest from wins 1 to 10 at 33 starts.

Scheffler’s strokes gained stats are simply staggering. Scheffler ranks No. 1 in SG: Total, Tee to Green, Approach, No. 2 Off the Tee and top-10 Around the Green. He’s continued to win despite ranking outside the top 150 in SG: Putting. Scheffler gained more than a stroke both off the tee and on approach shots in his first three rounds at Harbour Town. He has done this in 27.2% of his rounds over the last three seasons. The rest of the PGA Tour has done it 4.7% of the time.

Scheffler then finished off another victory with a strong performance on Sunday at Harbour Town that included this chip-in for eagle from 53 feet off the front right short rough on the Par 5 at hole No. 2.

He’s now played 40 rounds in 2024 and has yet to shoot a round over par. It’s 44 in a row dating back to last year’s Tour Championship in August. Tiger Woods currently holds the Tour record at 52 rounds shooting par or better, which he set during the 2000-01 season.

Scheffler’s desire to win and determination to be the best is shining through despite any pressure that may mount. He’s nearly locked up 2024 PGA Tour Player of the Year honors before the end of April, and commented on his play and performances following rounds 3 and 4 while dealing with any added pressure.

Internally, do you feel less pressure compared to a few months ago when you're out there playing?

SCOTTIE SCHEFFLER: It's tough to answer. I mean, I talked about it a bit at the end of last week. I really love winning, and I don't really like losing at all. It's one of those things where I try to manage the expectations of myself, kind of get that stuff out of the way and then go out there and compete.

Scheffler also added 700 FedEx Cup Playoffs Points to his total by winning the Signature Event at the RBC Heritage. He tops the points list with 3,915 - more than double Wyndham Clark (1,892) with Xander Schauffele, Ludvig Aberg and Sahith Theegala next at more than 1,500 points.

Scheffler is scheduled to compete in the Wells Fargo Championship May 9-12 at Quail Hollow Club in Charlotte, NC - another $20 million Signature Event. He should be a first-time father by then with wife Meredith expecting their child very soon.

“I definitely will enjoy the birth of my first child, and my priorities will change very soon, so golf will be fourth in line, but I still love competing,” he said last Sunday in the Butler Cabin at The Masters .

He competed at the highest level again without a letdown to win the RBC Heritage. Scheffler will enter the next major as the +450 favorite at the PGA Championship May 16-19 at Valhalla Golf Club in Louisville, KY. FanDuel Sportsbook also has Scheffler at +6500 odds to win the Grand Slam and all four majors this year.

Scottie Scheffler is showing no signs of letdown and fans and bettors continue to support him despite ultra-low odds to win not seen since Tiger Wood’s dominance.

You can bet on it.

2024 Zurich Classic odds, field: Surprising PGA picks, predictions by model that's nailed 11 majors

Sportsline's proven model simulated the zurich classic of new orleans 2024 10,000 times and revealed its pga golf picks.

rory-mcilroy-pga-golf-getty-images.jpg

Xander Schauffele and Patrick Cantlay look to reclaim some team magic when they pair back up for the 2024 Zurich Classic. The PGA Tour's yearly team event tees off Thursday at TPC Louisiana in New Orleans, and 80 two-man teams will be in attendance for tee off on Thursday. Schauffele and Cantlay were the winning duo back in 2022 and they are the 5-1 favorites on the 2024 Zurich Classic odds board. Should you back this pair of California natives with your 2024 Zurich Classic picks? Or should you back Rory McIlroy and Shane Lowry at 8-1 odds?

Will Zalatoris and Sahith Theegala are listed at 11-1 in the lastest 2024 Zurich Classic odds, and Collin Morkiawa and Kurt Kitayama follow at 16-1. Defending Zurich Classic champions Nick Hardy and David Riley are 80-1 longshots to have repeat success. Before making any 2024 Zurich Classic picks, be sure t o see the golf predictions and projected leaderboard from the proven computer model at SportsLine .

Our proprietary model, built by DFS pro Mike McClure, has been red-hot since the PGA Tour resumed in June of 2020. In fact, the model is up more than $9,000 on its best bets since the restart, nailing tournament after tournament.

McClure's model correctly predicted Scottie Scheffler would finish on top of the leaderboard at the 2024 Masters, the Arnold Palmer Invitational, the Players Championship, and the RBC Heritage this season. McClure also included Hideki Matsuyama in his best bets to win the 2024 Genesis Invitational. That bet hit at +9000, and for the entire tournament, McClure's best bets returned nearly $1,000.

The model also predicted Jon Rahm would be victorious at the 2023 Sentry Tournament of Champions and The American Express. At the 2023 Masters, the model was all over Rahm's second career major victory heading into the weekend. Rahm was two strokes off the lead heading into the third round, but the model still projected him as the winner. It was the second straight Masters win for the model, which also nailed Scheffler winning in 2022.

In addition, McClure's best bets included Nick Taylor (70-1) winning the 2023 RBC Canadian Open, Jason Day (17-1) winning outright at the 2023 AT&T Byron Nelson, and Rickie Fowler (14-1) finishing on top of the leaderboard at the 2023 Rocket Mortgage Classic.

This same model has also nailed a whopping 11 majors entering the weekend and hit the Masters three straight years. Anyone who has followed it has seen massive returns.

Now that the Zurich Classic 2024 field is finalized, SportsLine simulated the tournament 10,000 times, and the results were surprising. Head to SportsLine now to see the projected leaderboard .

Top 2024 Zurich Classic predictions

One major surprise the model is calling for at the Zurich Classic 2024: McIlroy and Lowry, who've combined for 26 wins on the PGA Tour, barely crack the top five. McIlroy is set to play in his fourth consecutive event when he tees off at TPC Louisiana. He's failed to crack the top-10 in seven of his eight starts on the PGA Tour this season, while Lowry has finished T-19 or worse in six of his past eight events.

Both players have struggled mightily on the green this season. McIlroy enters the 2024 Zurich Classic ranked 78th in strokes gained: putting (0.119) and 72nd in putting average (1.758), a big reason why he ranks 98th in scoring average (70.44). Lowry, meanwhile, ranks 99th in strokes gained: putting (-0.012) and 143rd in putts per round (29.38), which doesn't bode well for their chances to finish on top of the leaderboard this week.

Another surprise: Rasmus Højgaard and Nicolai Højgaard, 35-1 longshots, make a strong run at the title. The twin brothers have a much better chance to win it all than their odds imply, so they're a target for anyone looking for a huge payday.

The Danish twosome has been making headlines abroad for years now, becoming the first brothers to ever win events in consecutive weeks on the European Tour back in 2021. They are now making noise on the PGA Tour as Nicolai finished second at the Farmers Insurance Open back in January and finished T16 in his first ever Masters appearance earlier this month. Nicolai also played this event last year, so his experience makes the duo an under-the-radar competitor at the 2024 Zurich Classic.  See who else to pick here .

How to make 2024 Zurich Classic picks

The model is also targeting three other teams with odds of 35-1 or longer to make a strong run at the title. Anyone who backs these longshots could hit it big. You can only see the model's picks here .

Who will win the 2024 Zurich Classic, and which longshots will stun the golfing world? Check out the Zurich Classic 2024 odds below and then visit SportsLine to see the projected Zurich Classic leaderboard , all from the model that's nailed 11 golf majors, including the last three Masters.
