Past Triple Diamond S models were 440cc, so i'd expect that - if legitimate - would be 440cc as well. Standard driver 460cc, Triple Diamond 450cc, Triple Diamond S 440cc.

This is what frustrates me about Cally drivers.

Just when i thought I was fine with my Rogue ST TD…couldn’t they have just made this 440 not 420 so it was close enough in size to what I have and the same size as the rogue s (which I ended up not wanting) so that I wasn’t motivated to try it…

to think I thought I wasn’t going to try a new driver this year…

Ike any of us would.  Don’t know why people get up in arms about it as he has to keep the company line.

also we are such the minority that most folks who watch these videos wouldn’t know the difference so saying there are only 3 heads makes it simple for the everyday consumer.

Tour Insider: Breaking Down the Paradym Tour Heads

tour issue paradym triple diamond

We did this last year, and it received a ton of fun questions, so let’s get back at it again. This time its Paradym, and although there are TOUR-specific heads (two extra, to be clear) this year specifically, the amount of Tour Exotics actually in play is VERY slim. When it’s usually 15-20%, this year it’s more like 5%.

So this will serve as an update to what we did last year with the same user guide intro below…

After receiving HUNDREDS of questions on what “other heads” we carry for our TOUR staff, I felt now was a good time to explain each head so any speculation can rest.

DISCLAIMER: YES, we have TOUR-specific heads for our staff. WHY? Well, for one, these are the best players in the world, and some require a level of nuance that most of us mere mortals don’t need. The other reason is to support a particular shot shape, spin window, etc. Keep in mind that TOUR players hit the middle of the face SUBSTANTIALLY more than weekend amateurs do. US weekend or avid golfers need SPEED, FORGIVENESS, and STABILITY. On TOUR, that’s still true, but it’s also making sure that a draw (for example) launches at the right number, flies out of the exact window the player with the correct spin, and the MISS is relatively consistent. That type of nuance requires some adjustments, and we offer it. On the performance trailer, we have a driver head to accommodate ANY player that walks thru the door. True Story.

tour issue paradym triple diamond

Every OEM has TOUR head/s, whether optically adjusted, CG adjusted, smaller, heavier, lighter, spin more, etc. The difference is we actually talk about ours AND offer them in many forms, IE, Paradym TD.

It also needs to be said that many of our staff across the globe play RETAIL heads. For example, our European Tour Staff have multiple Paradym Std heads in play, and YES, that means the one without the weight up front.

tour issue paradym triple diamond

If there is one stark difference, our TOUR heads have thicker/heavier faces. The reason, simply, is durability. TOUR players hit thousands of balls and hit the same spot on the face repeatedly. That level of consistency requires sustainability, ESPECIALLY if the player is in a Driver that they LOVE. The last thing Jon Rahm wants is to get into May/June and crack the face of a driver that he has been successful with. Trust me; he played the same Rogue ST TD LS (his favorite driver of all time) all year in 2022.

So, NO. Tour heads are not faster, juiced up, or filled with Unicorn sprinkles. In all honesty, they start slower than the heads you see in the store.

NOW WE GOT THAT OUT OF THE WAY

Let’s break down each Tour Head.

tour issue paradym triple diamond

  • The + heads are higher-lofted versions of the stated loft. For example, 9+ will laser at 9.75 as opposed to 8.8 or 9.2. Why? It’s more of a face angle thing to allow players to not to have to change face angle to achieve a higher loft or vice versa. For example, Xander plays a [email protected] because he wants a 9.5 loft with an open face. Conversely, a player might want a 9.5 head that sits squarely, so we would pivot him to a + head.

Paradym TD (At Retail) (Neutral CG, Low/Mid Spin, Mid Launch, 448CC) 8.5, 9, 9+, 10.5, 10.5+

Notes: VERY low spin with the heavy weight forward and becomes a HIGH MOI TD piece when the heavy weight is back.

Notable Users: Rahm, Xander, Kirk, Hadwin, Molinari, KH Lee

Kellen Watson (Callaway Performance Rep): “Since its debut not long ago, the Triple Diamond has had its share of evolution. Sure, we have altered the topography of the face, aesthetics, look, and material we used in construction, but essentially the model size and shape have remained unchanged. One of the differentiations from last year’s offering is that we melded the Rogue ST Triple Diamond with the Rogue ST Triple Diamond LS. This allowed us to combine the great features of each into an essential “Goldilocks” driver. With this combo, we could create a more versatile driver that spanned more of the field of players. When a driver allows us to make very small tweaks to create larger changes, that is a fitter’s dream. The materials used to create the Paradym Triple Diamond and the features of yesteryear make this driver a drawer’s dream, a fader’s undaunted weapon, and a shot shaper’s utility belt.”

tour issue paradym triple diamond

Paradym TD S (Tour Only) (Neutral CG, Mid Spin, Mid Launch, 420CC) 8.5, 9, 9+, 10.5, 10.5+

Notes: Shot shapers head.

Notable Users: Burns, Min Woo Lee, Si Woo Kim

Kellen Watson (Callaway Performance Rep): “Look, look, and look. When you give players choices, the first choice is shape. Shape obviously relates to size, face depth, subtle lines, face angle, etc. The Triple Diamond S head lends itself to a player that likes more of a traditional pear shape. In comparison to the Triple Diamond, when tested with the same loft, weight setup, etc., the S head will spin 100-200 RPM more with the ability to shape shots easier due to a small decrease in MOI.”

tour issue paradym triple diamond

Paradym STD Tour (Tour Only) (HIGH MOI, 9, 15 or 21G Slider in the rear, Neutral CG, Low Spin, 460CC, Longer Heel to Toe than TD, Shallower face, weight in front) 8.5, 9, 9+, 10.5

Notes: The most fade-biased of the bunch, moving the weight to the heel, actually neutralizes the CG and doesn’t make it draw-biased. As you can imagine moving the weight out toward the toe makes it quite a fader.

Notable Users: McNealy, Van Rooyen, Noren

Kellen Watson (Callaway Performance Rep): “The Tour Standard head is a continuation of the Rogue ST Max LS and its tour-only relative, Max LS T. There are still some players at the PGA Tour level that prefer a larger footprint in a driver head, and we like to be able to offer that.”

tour issue paradym triple diamond

FAIRWAY WOODS:

tour issue paradym triple diamond

Paradym (At Retail) 3+, 3, 3HL, 5, 7, 9, 11, HW : Low profile head with a low/mid spin and high launch profile. Neutral CG.

tour issue paradym triple diamond

Paradym TD ADJ/Bonded (ADJ at retail) 3+, 3, 3HL, 5, 7 : Low launch and Low Spin with more of a deeper/player’s shape vs. Std.

tour issue paradym triple diamond

Paradym TD T (Not at retail) 3, 3HL, 5: Similar DNA to Epic Speed T and Rogue ST T, extra camber in the sole for turf interaction, neutral CG, Low/Mid Spin)

tour issue paradym triple diamond

Conclusion…

Pretty cool stuff, if I do say so myself. I hope this answers all your questions and, if nothing else, gives you a gearhead rabbit hole to venture down.

Our Tour heads are quite fascinating subjects to study, and as I learn more about the “why” from R&D, the more I discover that, like F1 or any sport at an elite level, it’s in the wonderful details that the magic happens. Would it be cool for the general public to access all of these? Sure. It would be cool…..but that’s it. Just cool.

I love that we offer some of it to the golfing public because there is definitely a place for it, and the response has been there.

But the best players in the world need something a lil different; trust me, I walk with these players every week. It’s different.

This ain’t no hobby, folks.

Now….Let the questions FLY!!!!

I guess I’m still trying to understand how the faces are slower and thicker in the tour heads and yet there is a picture in the article of a head that has a CT rating of 252. That’s so close to upper limit of the legal tolerance limit that I don’t know how that could not creep above the limit quickly. I’d expect the tour heads to start somewhere around CT236 in order to stay within the 257 limit.

I only know what I see from testing, Retail VS Tour. Tour always starts out 3-4 MPH Slower vs Retail

' src=

April 13, 2023 at 12:43 pm

Thanks for the info. That is a drastic number in all honesty. So is it safe to say the constant use of the tour heads adds 3-4 mph’s by when it is all said and done? Hypothetically, if retail heads were out on tour, how long do you think it would take for them to fail testing? I just feel like 3-4 mph’s slower would be something players would look at vs. comfortably of a gamer. Thanks.

Still trying to defend your blatant lie before release about no in your specific heads. As you said you “walk with them every week” so you knew damn well that you were lying by choice or by force.

Either way you lost all credibility. I don’t even watch episodes of TXG, who I love, when you are guest.

Your word is something you shouldn’t have traded off for such a cheap price.

You’ve completely lost any credibility on golfwrx and that takes some effort.

April 9, 2023 at 5:31 pm

Not really. I don’t speak to anything on our truck until I know they will go in play. This isn’t politics it’s golf clubs so per your comment on my credibility with WRX I’m ok with that. I report things when I feel it’s necessary and has a story to it. The fact that forum peeps are outraged that the best players in the world have access to different heads isn’t my concern. We are the only company that actually discusses our tour parts, frequently and with context.

You taking shots at my character is on you. It’s golf. Golf clubs. Fun. We aren’t curing cancer.

April 11, 2023 at 8:06 am

No they are outraged that you knowingly lied about it.

I didn’t take a shot at your character, you sold that when you decided that your credibility meant nothing to you and went right out there and lied.

Discussing your tour equipment and knowingly lying about it is not really discussing it now is it.

As far as golfwrx ( not a fan of it BTW but it has massive reach) most people of course were “outraged” because they knew you were lying because of course there would be tour heads. There always is but you chose to lie about it for marketing purposes. Thats YOU putting your character in question.

I’m sure the people there who have been supportive of the company that pays your wages will be happy to know how you really feel and that lying is just business as usual.

It’s just golf sales, right?

' src=

April 12, 2023 at 4:58 am

Outraged is a strong word as I have now read the threads. Folks can call me a liar all they want if they that’s how they feel. My job is to report info when necessary and has depth/weight and real context to it. If we have/heads being tested as ideas that’s all they are at the time. Simple as that.

Once again I’m not going to report something as fact until I know a certain product will go in play and stay in play. Otherwise it’s a prototype. Most of our staff is in the TD head which can be purchased at retail right now.

If the WRX forums are “outraged” because I didn’t report and give them every last detail on heads that were being tested and even more heads the avg golfer can’t utilize or even buy…what purpose does that serve.

Keep in mind that we are the only OEM that reveals any of this info. We mark and show different heads on Tour. So it’s easy to spot a new one.

I like how I do my job and grateful I get to do it.

April 11, 2023 at 8:08 am

The answer of course is no but feel free to keep up the drooling.

50 Words or Less

The Callaway Paradym Triple Diamond driver has a sleek, compact look at address.  Two weight ports make this like two drivers in one.  Lower launch and spin than the standard Paradym.

Introduction

If you’re skiing, two black diamonds are an indication of an “experts only” run.  Beginners risk serious injury on those slopes.

In Callaway’s world, three diamonds are an indication of a club for Tour or stronger players.  But thanks to continued improvements in technology, the newest generation of Triple Diamond clubs carries less risk of scorecard damage for the average player.

callaway paradym triple diamond driver address

The Callaway Paradym Triple Diamond driver looks substantially different at address compared to the standard Paradym driver.  While it’s only 10cc smaller (450 vs. 460), the gap seems larger as the Triple Diamond is shorter from front to back and slimmer on the sides .  The sides are shaved in so much, the overall shape is almost triangular.  Additionally, the Triple Diamond driver has no alignment aid .

What both drivers have in common is the standout blue carbon fiber crown .  These pictures show the crown in brighter conditions which makes the blue pop.  In darker conditions, the crown looks navy, almost black [see it HERE ].

In the bag, the most eye-catching part of this driver is the marbled blue that covers most of the sole .  The Paradym branding sits prominently across the middle.  Finally, there is a weight port near the face and another hidden on the back edge.

Sound & Feel

In sound and feel, the Callaway Paradym Triple Diamond driver has a clear connection to the standard Paradym without being a carbon copy.  The character of the impact sound is very similar – a poppy “thwack” at a mid-pitch.  Where the Triple Diamond differs is in its lower volume.  Even indoors, this driver is quiet .  This pairs well with an impact feel that’s solid and traditional.

The Triple Diamond also differs from the standard Paradym in feedback.  The Paradym covers up for your mistakes; the Triple Diamond does not.  When you miss the center, the impact sound dulls substantially.  Similarly, the feel of an off-center strike is dead .  If you’re not afraid of the truth about your strike quality, you’ll love this driver.

Performance

In my testing of the standard Callaway Paradym driver [review HERE ], what really stood out was the forgiveness.  The ball speed was excellent, and it was extremely straight.  I was eager to see how much of that had to be sacrificed for lower spin in the Triple Diamond driver.

What I noticed right away was that the ball speed in the Triple Diamond was robust .  Thanks to a myriad of technologies – Jailbreak, A.I. designed face, and face cup – this club face is hot from end to end .  While mishits aren’t quite as fast as they are on the standard Paradym, they are much quicker than you would expect from a Tour-style driver.

Check out the Callaway Paradym Triple Diamond Fairway Wood HERE

tour issue paradym triple diamond

The Paradym Triple Diamond driver is markedly different than its predecessor, the Rogue ST Triple Diamond LS [review HERE ], in one important way: it has two adjustable weights .  There’s a port on the back edge (above) and one on the sole near the face.  The two stock weights are 14 grams and 2 grams, and moving them makes a big difference.  First, it changes the way the club feels , so make sure you try it both ways before making a decision.

tour issue paradym triple diamond

Beyond the feel, putting more weight toward the back make the Paradym Triple Diamond driver more stable.  This brings the performance closer to the standard Paradym.  You won’t feel much twisting on mishits, and more of your drives will fly straight .  Spin and launch will be lower than the standard Paradym.

If you want to lean all the way in on low spin and workability , place the heavier weight near the face .  For me, this resulted in noticeably lower spin.  However, there is a tradeoff in terms of stability.  With the weight forward, you will lose more ball speed on mishits, and it will be easier to hit crooked shots.

callaway paradym triple diamond driver sole close up

Whether you need lower spin or are entranced by the beautiful address look, don’t be afraid to give the Callaway Paradym Triple Diamond driver a shot at your bag this year.  There’s more forgiveness than you might expect, especially with the heavier weight back.  As always make sure to get fit, and don’t be offended if your fitter gives you more loft – Jon Rahm is playing the 10.5 degree, too.

Are the numbers you posted with the heavy weight forward or in the back (or am average of both)? Any chance you have both sets to get a sense of how the numbers differed when switching the weights around? Thanks again for a thorough and thoughtful review. Take care and have a great day.

Cheers, Sean

' src=

Those numbers are with the weight back. I rarely get along with super weight-forward drivers.

Nice. Too bad I can’t afford it. Senior citizen on limited income.

' src=

I’ll buy you one, ron.

' src=

9° driver tested?

Did you test the same shaft between this and the standard Paradym

I used both the Kai’li White and Ventus TR Blue in the Triple Diamond. The numbers here are from the latter.

' src=

Great article best review of the driver I found.

Thanks, Ryan!

' src=

Great review. I’ve been playing this driver w/ the Ventus TR blue. Great driver!!!

' src=

I bought the 8 degree with a Hzdrs black 60 x-stiff and the ball is coming out too low. I was wondering if I should go to a 10.5 degrees with a mid-launch shaft like Tensei Orange or Blue.

Any thoughts?

My first piece of advice would be to get fit rather than playing the very expensive “buy to try” game. With that said, if you’re not going to be fit, I wouldn’t start changing multiple things at once. Going up 2.5 degrees of loft should make a big change. Do that first and then change the shaft if needed.

' src=

Very Interesting! I have been following your Driver and Shaft evals for years when choosing equip to eval—as my specs are close to yours, and I need cut spin. I ended up testing & getting the previous Rogue ST Triple D (and Hzrdus Blue RDX) based on your eval…and it’s been perfect (and a spin killer!). With that, I went back and looked at your past Rogue ST eval and compared the numbers to the Paradym Triple Diamond numbers. You just saved me $800+ (and testing time) with this eval, as the past Rogue numbers are still too tough to beat! So thank you Matt…and keep the content coming; you provide us all with a fun and great starting point for testing clubs, shafts, and training aids!

Great review Matt of this terrific club. I played the Rogue ST Max LS driver (with a variety of shafts) and liked it, but ‘love’ the Paradym TD 10.5* driver. TD won out vs Std. at a Callaway fitting day. Some would find it surprising for a 67 year old golfer (8 index, with gym and mobility work). The TD head (14 grams back) is paired with a Graphite Design Tour AD CQ (6-S) shaft which is amazing too. I do play it at 11.5* as the winter rains slowly leave northern CA. Winter distance is around 230 yards and summer driving should approach 250 yards total. The straightness of the TD head with low spin is great; Shot Scope says I’m top 5% in driving accuracy. As Matt describes, the Paradym TD can work for different players, so don’t dismiss it based on truisms. I tend to prefer a smaller, more traditional look so that bias had me lean toward it.

' src=

I have a rogue st ,I have a maverik set at 8 degrees and I still hit them to high,I just bought this club a hoping to get it down to 7 degrees.I love hitting my irons high but not my driver.I play golf for fun play some tunes and drink a few beers, but I am competitive .I use to race motocross the hardest sport in the world.

Nice review, Matt. I played this driver when it first came out for about 4-5 months. I went to last year’s Rogue TD and I’ve played it for a couple months now. Both are great drivers!! I’m now going back to Paradym TD as I think it’s better. On center strikes and especially strikes off toe and heel. Mishits lol. I think Paradym TD launches the ball higher also. Same 9* w/ventus blue velocore shaft. Matt I appreciate the hard work you guys put in to give us golfers valuable information.

Thanks, Jayson!

' src=

10 hndcap play 919 forged, not driver consistant, have the paradym love it . So i figured ill try Paradym Triple diamond, I have the epic, and hit well, don’t hit the epic subzero as well. The point of my story is, I am bombing the paradym triple diamond.. with an extra stiff shaft by the way, and my swing speeds under 100 always borderline regular stiff. I love the reviews always on point, You are so correct about this one . folks don’t be afraid to hit it. It goes right where I’m pointing it. I was shocked. 280 straight, oh im 59 years old in great shape, but still, lol …Love it.

' src=

What effect would you expect by changing the size of the weights rather than their position perhaps increasing each weight or maybe just one.

Simply adding weight to the head will increase the swing weight and likely increase the MOI somewhat. Overall, if you’re talking about adding 2-4 grams, you’re not going to see a big difference.

Increased MOI is something I wish for, how much do I need to increase front and back screw weights? ( 14 gram is already in back position) thanks 😊

The more you decrease the front weight and raise the back weight, the higher the MOI will be. However, that will likely raise your spin and will change the feel of the driver.

What we say...

The callaway paradym ai-smoke triple diamond driver is said to be sweeter no matter where shots hit the face, my review finds out if it delivers..

Whether we like it or not, Artificial Intelligence is playing an increasing role in our everyday lives. AI powers virtual assistants, medical diagnosis, driverless cars, and annoying online chatbots, but when it comes to golf Callaway is absolutely determined to boss designing clubs using AI. So much so the design behind the Callaway Paradym Ai-Smoke Triple Diamond driver wouldn’t be possible without it.

The company has put in years of work building knowledge to harness the power of AI to create some of the best golf drivers available, which they say will help golfers hit drivers further and straighter than ever before. Here’s how…

Callaway Paradym Ai One Smoke Triple Diamond driver with headcover

The background

Callaway has been doing ai for 15 years.

With other golf brands batting around how they use AI to design golf clubs, Callaway is quick to point out they’ve got more pedigree than the competition. The company bought its first super-computer back in 2009. Yet it took 10 years before the Epic Flash launched in 2019. The first commercially manufactured golf product designed by AI.

This spells out how it’s impossible to just go to a local tech shop, buy a super-computer off the rack, start it up, and set it free designing drivers. With 120 people in Callaway’s R&D team and a dedicated Artificial Intelligence team assembled from outside golf, nobody in the game is more focused on writing lines of custom code to harness AI into designing better-performing golf products.

Sweeter from every spot

The previous Paradym driver was a massive success. It won countless events in the hands of Jon Rahm , Sam Burns , Xander Schauffele , and Rose Zhang . Club golfers bought it in their droves too. The model represented a huge shift in how the company designs drivers, incorporating a full 360° carbon fiber chassis, hence the ‘Paradym’ name.

However, Callaway’s super-computer-driven AI has got so good, that the company can legally claim the Ai-Smoke drivers are 7 yards longer than their predecessors. And that data’s measured from 21 different spots across the face, not nine like the industry standard. Staggering gains within a single generation.

How have they done it? Well, it all comes down to the most sophisticated driver face ever made, the super new Ai-Smart Face.

Callaway Paradym Ai One Smoke driver face

Everything you need to know about the Callaway Ai-Smart Face

Swing code has been developed from real player data.

Typically drivers are designed using R&D robots, in a static environment. New models are hit in different locations across the face and engineers study the results. Using a robot means there’s no opportunity to factor in how various categories of golfers deliver the club differently at impact.

What sets the Paradym Ai-Smoke Triple Diamond driver apart then, is how it’s been optimized using real golfer swings.

Callaway says they’ve mapped 250,000 tour pro and consumer swings across the world because real golfers don’t swing like robots. The project has given the company over a million data points to feed into the super-computer. A move that better optimizes each of the four Paradym Ai-Smoke drivers for their intended audience.

Traditionally drivers are designed using five to eight different face iterations. Thanks to artificial intelligence the new Ai-Smoke models benefit from 50,000 electronic prototypes. Plus, thanks to the hours of real-world research each individual design is more tailored to the typical speed, path, and impact location of its intended audience.

A close up of the laser etched grooves on the Callaway paradym Ai-Smoke Max driver face

Micro trampolines

We’ve all heard how modern variable thickness driver faces act like trampolines and slingshot shots off faster and further than flat faces used to decades ago. It’s mind-blowing though that Callaway says the new Ai-Smart Face contains smaller areas that act like micro-trampolines. The idea is each counteracts a miss of the typical golfer who’ll use each of the four Ai-Smoke driver models, which is really clever thinking.

Just to be clear this is not a bulge and roll story like TaylorMade’s TwistFace . It’s about changing the launch and spin of shots through the design and contouring of the face.

The idea has a big impact on down-range dispersion and means heel shots generate less cut spin, so the ball goes less far right (for a right-hander) and benefit from additional yardage. Where low spin shots hit high on the toe are less likely to fall out of the sky and draw less. Hence the ‘sweeter from every spot’ tagline.

The three Callaway Paradym AI-Smoke driver soles

What’s the benefit of Swing Code?

Swing Code is a whole new way to design driver faces. Callaway is the first to take this approach of designing individual faces for different types of golfers. But how can it help you play better golf?

Well, Callaway says it’s all about the number of times they can run their designs through the super-computer, as each time there’s an improvement in speed or dispersion from somewhere on the face. Until a point when gains become virtually non-existent for that particular model.

Having the computer model 5,000 different faces, dispersion stood at 85.29 sq yards. At 10,000, that dropped to 68.33 sq yds, while at 50,000 iterations the number incredibly narrowed to 33.89 sq yds. This means the power of AI has cut dispersion by almost one-third.

Spelling out plain and simple why computer modeling completely outstrips humans. As it would have taken humans 10 years to make thousands of driver face iterations, and even then nobody would have dreamt up what the super-computer has.

Video: How does the Callaway Paradym AI Smoke Triple Diamond compare to other leading 2024 drivers?

Which Ai-Smoke driver is best for you?

Callaway hasn’t just studied the impact point of where different abilities of golfers impact shots on the face, they’ve considered attack angle, club path, and speed too. Here’s how to break down where your driver game fits.

Callaway Paradym Ai-Smoke Max D and Max Fast driver

These golfers typically, but not always, swing driver between 75 and 90 mph, which is considered slow to average. Shots are likely to be sprayed from low heel to high toe and the attack angle will be down onto the back of the ball, with an out-to-in swing path.

Those needing the most help with fighting a slice should gravitate toward the Max D, whereas those needing additional speed should explore the Max Fast.

Callaway Paradym Ai-Smoke Max driver

The Max is Callaway’s core driver model, aimed at the majority of golfers. Those best suited to this set-up are likely to have an impact location a little higher on the face than Max D and Max Fast players. Shots are likely to be grouped a little more tightly on the face too.

Attack angles are likely to be a fraction down to a little up and the target player will generate mid-speed (90 – 100 mph). Possibly they’ll also have a fade rather than a slice as a stock shot.

Callaway Paradym Ai-Smoke Triple Diamond driver

Triple Diamond golfers are likely to have a higher swing speed of 105 – 120+ mph and shots are much more likely to be grouped tightly around the center of the face. The attack angle should be up onto the back of the ball and players will generally have a much more neutral path.

Lofts: 8° / 9° / 10.5°

Very much the model for high-speed players and Callaway’s band of elite tour athletes. Expect this model to lower spin, yet remain stable and reasonably forgiving compared to the best low-spin driver competition.

Even though the preceding Paradym Triple Diamond driver won more tour events around the world than any other, this year’s Ai-Smoke will deliver tighter down-range dispersion. Front and back sole weighting allows golfers to dial in launch and spin, which usually is more important to decent players than correcting shot shape.

Verdict: Callaway Paradym Ai Smoke Triple Diamond driver

The original Paradym Triple Diamond in 2023 was an absolute beast of a driver, it got out the gates early and racked up several tour wins, and we like other media outlets applauded its impressive ball speed and distance credentials. To see how its replacement performs we put it up against the the leading 2024 low-spin driver models in the hands of TG Test Pro Neil Wain at Keele Golf Centre. Our test data below shows how all the models compare.

Manage expectations

I said it about the Paradym TD last year and I’ll say it again in 2024, to play this driver successfully you have to fit Callaway’s target audience of being a high-speed player, but also a consistent hitter. If you do, this is a seriously fast, powerful, and strong low-spin driver option, so strong it ranks among our top two performing low-spin drivers of 2024 (alongside the TaylorMade Qi10 LS ). However, if you don’t quite fit the category, or your game sits on its fringes you’re putting way too much forgiveness on the line searching for ball speed.

Remember over and above last year’s model Callaway’s new Ai Smart Face has been optimized using real golfer data to better perform for golfers who group shots more tightly on the driver’s face. That means golfers who hit this model more consistently closer to center face see faster speeds, while those who don’t get even more harshly punished than in 2023.

Looking at our test pro’s left-to-right dispersion no matter whether we positioned the heavier 14g weight in the back port (more forgiving) or the front position (more ball speed and less spin) the numbers posted were all above our test averages (by 45%, 1.9%, and 36.8%). Yet thanks to protecting carry distance better than some of the competition we did see an overall shot area of 593 SQ YDS (across all three settings tested) which is just inside the test average.

Performance

If though you do fit the bill and your game is based around consistent hitting at high speeds our test data highlights the TD as a brilliant performing low spin driver in 2024. At 276 yards carry distance, that’s just a single yard back from the very longest, it was our test pro’s 2 nd longest low-spin driver in 2024. Yet unlike the lower launching, flying, and spinning but very slightly longer Titleist TSR4 he felt he could play this set-up on the golf course.

Switching the 14g weight from back port to front we reduced backspin by 203 RPM but also lowered launch by 1deg, shot height by 6 yards, and descent angle by 4.7deg, which for Neil at least would make the model virtually unplayable unless he only played links golf and wanted to flight shots significantly lower and let them run out.

And finally…

If you’re lucky enough that your game boasts over 105mph of driver speed and you hit driver more consistently than Jon Rahm you’ll also want to know the TD has a pretty unforgiving look at address. But to play a driver at this level you have to appreciate this is the style of set-up the best players in the world want.

Personally, for club golfers, I’d prefer to see an alignment aid on the top edge, and there’s no escaping how the carbon fiber weave on the crown is loud and in your face. But hands up I cannot hide how fast and powerful the model is so long as your game fits its set-up to a tee.

Hence why it’s one of my two top-performing low-spin driver recommendations (alongside the TaylorMade Qi10 LS ) for 2024.

*All lofts at 10.5° unless otherwise stated.

The Callaway Paradym TD is a great driver that does exactly what it says it’s going to. If you’re a player who likes to shape the ball off the tee, then this model – the more compact and traditional of the three in the range – ticks a lot of boxes.

  • Premium looks
  • Traditional, compact appearance at address
  • Impressive distance gains over the previous generation
  • Not as forgiving as the other options in the range

Photo of the Callaway Paradym Ai Smoke Triple Diamond Driver

An exceptional driver in the low spin market. The looks, sound, feel and ball data are exactly what I look for in this category. Some aesthetic improvements from the previous model and a slight tweak to the face technology make this a standout product for 2024.

  • Super strong, low spin flight
  • The new grey colorway looks fantastic
  • Felt a touch more playable than the original Paradym TD
  • Face sits a fraction open which won’t appeal to slicers

The Callaway Paradym Ai Smoke range of drivers are new for 2024 and replace the  popular Paradym drivers from last year. The Paradym Ai Smoke Max is the more ‘standard’ head of the range, sandwiched between the low-spin, tour-influenced Ai Smoke Triple Diamond driver and the spinnier, draw bias Max D driver .

As a big fan of the  original Paradym family , I was extremely keen to see what Callaway had in store for the new line-up and if the Paradym Ai Smoke Triple Diamond driver could take its place among the  best drivers  in the game. The original Paradym TD driver was one of the most played on Tour last year so it would be a tough act to follow.

Whether you are seeking the  most forgiving drivers  or the  best golf drivers for distance  you won't go far wrong with Callaway. The standard Paradym driver and the new Paradym Ai Smoke Max are the two that will suit the widest range of golfers, but in this head to head we're looking at the lower spinning drivers which are tailored for the more accomplished golfer.

Having been  rigorously tested by Golf Monthly , we take a look at the performance of both the Paradym Triple Diamond and the Paradym Ai Smoke Triple Diamond and put them head-to-head to help you decide which one you should choose.

The key technology behind the original Paradym was a 360˚ carbon chassis. For the first time, Callaway's engineers did away with any trace of titanium in the body of the driver, saving weight to use elsewhere for more forgiveness. They retained the Jailbreak A.I. technology that was present in the  Callaway Rogue ST drivers , but it had a new design for 2023, allowing for improved stability.

There's a lot packed into this driver, which also has an A.I. Optimized face to improve downrange dispersion, as well as a Face Cup for faster ball speeds. The Paradym was ahead of its time but by really utilising their market leading A.I. technology Callaway claim to have made even further advancements with their 2024 offerings, and having tested all of the drivers in the Paradym Ai Smoke family I'd have to say that I agree.

Callaway Paradym Driver sole view

Callaway’s tag line with the new Ai Smoke range is ‘Sweeter From Every Spot’, and this is a concept they have created by advancing their Ai Smart Face technology, which entails gathering swing data from thousands of golfers. This data includes dynamics such as swing speed, club delivery, and face orientation just prior to impact. The information is then entered into their Ai system and the net result was a whole new face which Callaway says creates micro deflections across various points of the striking area, essentially producing multiple sweet spots. In other words, if you miss the center of the face you might still hit a sweet spot anyway.

Photo of the Callaway Paradym Ai Smoke Triple Diamond Driver

The 2023 Paradym saw Callaway say goodbye to the matte black finish of the Rogue ST drivers as they replaced it with a gloss crown that had a dark blue carbon effect. It was different, to say the least. It wasn't to my tastes but lots of people loved it. Each to their own.

The blue does subtly contrast with the black of the leading edge and the color scheme was very different to any other models released in 2023. It looked high tech and premium, with the blue crown providing something a little different. It certainly stood out, but it's debatable whether that was in a good way or a bad way. I've made my feeling known!

With its 450cc clubhead, the TD driver is the smallest of the three in the range and there is no alignment aid on this version of the driver. Although only 10cc smaller than the standard Paradym driver and  Callaway Paradym X driver , it appears significantly more compact at address, similar in size to the  Titleist TSR4 driver . I liked this as a clear point of difference - the compact shape will not be for everyone but for those in search of a more traditional look, this will immediately strike a chord.

Callaway Paradym TD address

The 2024 Paradym Ai Smoke family sees a return to a more understated finish on the crown with a sleek and stylish grey colorway.

I have always been somewhat conservative in terms of my driver color preferences, favoring either a black or grey, and the crown of the Ai Smoke Triple Diamond really delivers for me. That’s not to say it’s vanilla in any way. The combination of visual carbon and the grey give a really sophisticated and cohesive visual, and the grey to grey blend just looks so much cleaner to my eye.

A small ‘Ai Smoke’ logo is positioned towards the back, heel side of the crown which is new, and maybe feels a little unnecessary to disrupt the clean flow of the address position, but it really is tiny and far from offensive.

In addition to that, the topline stripe between crown and face has had a slight upgrade too. The new strip of the Ai Smoke Triple Diamond remains a lot more parallel to the top edge which, again, looks a lot neater to me than the on the original Paradym Triple Diamond where this tapered away more dramatically.

It's the sole that ultimately dictates the shelf appeal of a driver though, and it’s another huge well done to the Callaway design team from me! The smokey pattern from the original Paradym Triple Diamond continues but is sharper, and with the grey accent looks even better. The vibrant blue that Callaway has selected for the logo and the weights is the perfect accent to the grey. The sole geometry is very similar to its predecessor with only slight refinements in this area.

Photo of the Callaway Paradym Ai Smoke Triple Diamond Driver

I'll start with the original Paradym Triple Diamond. The sound is very muted for a modern driver. It provides a very deep, satisfying thud and absolutely minimal echo. With sound being such a large contributor to feel, the Paradym Triple Diamond transfers that sound into its impact sensation.

A dull but powerful thud gives almost a soft feel which is somewhat of a contradictory feeling to the impressive ball speeds it produces. As someone who is not a fan of a high pitched clunk, I was really impressed with the sound and feel of the Callaway Paradym Triple Diamond.

I tested the Callaway Paradym Ai Smoke TD outdoors at Royal North Devon Golf Club using a SkyTrak+ launch monitor and Titleist Pro V1x golf balls, and subsequently indoors using Foresight Sports GCQuad with again the Pro V1x.

From a feel and sound point of view, I didn’t notice any dramatic change from the Paradym Triple Diamond original, which I was very pleased with as I had very much become a fan of the muted thud it produced.

Photo of Joe Ferguson testing the driver

The original Paradym TD driver was considerably longer than the other drivers in the Paradym family but it was, as you'd expect, less forgiving and therefore not suited to golfers of average or below average abilty. Even really good players might find it a little too challenging, but the good news is that the 2024 version does offer a bit more help in that regard.

On well-struck shots with the Ai Smoke TD, ball speed, launch and spin numbers were basically identical to its predecessor, with good hits producing very low spin numbers and a really strong, penetrating ball flight.

The original Paradym TD was a driver you needed to be at your best with. Any mishits were punished fairly severely for me, which is often the case with many of the  best drivers for distance , however, the Callaway Paradym Ai Smoke Triple Diamond gave me a bit more peace of mind.

Some of my poorer strikes (which come predominantly out of the heel) really weren’t punished too harshly from either a ball speed or directional point of view. My standard heel strike began marginally left of my intended start line and through the gear effect, gently cut back nearer to target than I expected. On the rare occasion I struck one out of the toe, I found similar levels of forgiveness. This is a real plus point for a driver really geared towards low spin rather than ultimate playability and could well be a testament to the updated face.

There is a notable fade bias to the Callaway Paradym Ai Smoke Triple Diamond, both from an internal weighting perspective and from the slightly open face angle at address. As a fade is my preferred shot shape, this suited me down to the ground, but those looking to maximize a raking draw may want to look elsewhere. I found this driver almost impossible to shape right to left, which again is fantastic for me as it eliminates the left side of the course, but is something to be aware of.

Choose the Paradym Triple Diamond if.. - You want something a little less expensive - You prefer the striking navy color - You want more workability

What is loft.

Loft affects trajectory and spin rate and therefor it determines the distance the ball will travel. More loft typically generates a higher trajectory and more spin while lower loft causes the ball to fly lower and spin less.
