Pacifico Brewery

Pacifico Beer is brewed in Mazatlán.  The Pacific Brewery is located near the port of Mazatlán  It is a large building that can be seen from higher points in Mazatlán.

Pacifico and Pacifico Light beers are popular beers especially in Mazatlán.  You can't go very far in Mazatlán without seeing the Pacifico name and logo.

There is a museum at the top of the brewery that used to be available for tours.  However, there are no tours at this time.  We hope that one day that the tours resume.

We were just in Mazatlán in November 2017 and we found that many bars ran out of Pacifico Light!  Shocking!  There must be a trend for people to be drinking more light beer.  We hope that the brewery brews more Pacifico Light soon!

Pacifico Brewery in Mazatlán, Sinaloa, Mexico

October 2015: Great News for Canadian Pacifico beer drinkers..Cerveceria Del Pacifico, the brewers of Pacifico won a trademark court case that was brought against it by Pacific Western Brewery which brews Pacific beer.  Part of his judgement was that Pacifico has been sold in Canada for 25 years and PWB only sued recently.  Also, the labelling of Pacifico is obviously foreign and distinct!  So, Pacifico will be able to be sold in Canada for now...PWB is appealing the decision!

What you will visit: Pacifico Brewery Mexico and cerveza (beer) have a long tradition, and Pacifico, one of Mexico's best-loved and most flavorful beers, was first brewed in Mazatlán in 1900 when three German brewmasters established Cervecería del Pacifico in the city. A guided tour of the facilities includes the malting rooms and fermentation tanks. The history of the Pacifico brand is on display in a small museum that exhibits old brewing equipment. At the conclusion of the tour, enjoy a freshly made sample and a beautiful view of Mazatlán's harbor. Pacifico Brewery Notes: A very strict dress code is enforced at the Pacifico brewery. Tank tops and T-shirts are not allowed, and shoulders and midriffs must be covered. Only long pants or jeans are permitted, no shorts, skirts, dresses or capri-length pants. No sandals, flip-flops, backless shoes or sports/tennis shoes. Closed-toe leather (or similar) shoes are required. Jewelry of any kind is forbidden, including rings, earrings, bracelets, necklaces and watches. (Best to leave items in the ship's safe.) Cerveceria Navegante Craft Brewery A recent addition to Mazatlán, the Cerveceria Navegante craft brewery serves up pale ale, stout, IPA and golden ale. With lovely views of the Pacific, you'll learn more about the process of production and sample some of the microbrews that are produced. What you will see along the way: Enjoy Mazatlán's dramatic coastal scenery on the short drive to the Pacifico Brewery. Along the sparkling coastline, views of outer islands and oceanfront properties can be seen, and in the distance, the world's highest natural lighthouse, El Faro, peacefully stands guard over this picture-perfect scene. Tasting Session: At the Pacifico Brewery, enjoy a tasting session, accompanied by a spectacular view of the city and the harbor of Mazatlán, and at El Navegante, sample local craft beers. Shopping: Time is allotted at the end of the tour for shopping in the Downtown local market, Mazatlán's shopping and hotel mecca.

Discover Pacifico

Born in mazatlán.

In 1900, three German brewers established Cervecería del Pacifico in the small Mexican port town of Mazatlán. Word of the exceptionally drinkable pilsner-style lager traveled fast. Soon, thirst for Pacifico spread from Sinaloa and up the rugged Baja coastline.

FOUND IN BAJA

Fast forward to the early 1970s. As the story goes, a group of California surfers ventured south in their van to explore the breaks along the coast. Eventually they found themselves in Baja, where they also discovered hidden surf spots, friendly cantinas, and a beloved local beer called Pacifico.

IMPORTED BY SURFERS

Excited by their find, the wandering surfers loaded up a few cases of the rich golden lager into their van and returned north, becoming the first importers of Pacifico. Back in Southern California, the Baja-born cerveza gained a passionate following among surfers who journeyed south for the breaks, and returned with a beer well worth the trip.

Has anyone done the Pacifico Brewery tour lately?

I am asking because up until a couple years ago, it was an excellent tour.

We used to be able to view the wart tanks and the bottling floor prior to AB-Inbev's acquisition. Back then they made everyone wear long pants and closed toe shoes because the bottling floor would often have broken glass from the bottles that didn't quite stay on the line. Then they would take everyone up to the top floor where the small museum is and give everyone a bottle of beer while they took in the beautiful view of the city.

Then AB-Inbev purchased Grupo Modelo in mid 2013 and changed several things including the tour. The last time that I was there was in February of 2014. They seemed to be "in transition" because although we had to wear long pants and closed toe shoes, as we expected, we also had to wear hair nets and brightly colored safety vests. The strange thing was that we could no longer see the wart tanks or the bottling floor, or several other things that used to be part of the tour, so the extra precautions didn't make much sense. Haven't been back since that day.

So my no-so-short question is, has anybody been there lately? And is it worth seeing again?

' class=

Good to know! Thanks for your reply.

With all the construction in Maz you may need safety shoes all the time! Lol just joking...

How do you make reservations for the Tour, every site/ link (Groupo Modela/ Imbev)is from several years ago and does not work. Are they still giving tours to people not on a ship?

We just used to call them or have the hotel concierge make the reservations.

The only number that I can find is 669-982-7900 ext 1642. If dialing from the USA, dial 011-52-669-982-7900.

Its probably best to have someone that speaks Spanish, just in case.

And if you have any luck at all... please update this thread with how your experience went.

Price.... $69.95 USD Each!

Jewelry is strictly prohibited in the brewery and must be removed before entering, as there may not be a secure location to leave your jewelry please leave these onboard in the safe or in a secure location of choice. Visitors must wear leather closed toed shoes (no tennis shoes), long pants and long-sleeved shirts. Safety regulations do not permit high-heels, sandals, tennis shoes, short sleeve shirts, tank tops, shorts or baseball caps. Minimum age to participate is 18 years old. Minimum age to sample beer 21 years old. This tour is not available on Sundays and Mexican holidays as the brewery is closed. Photography is not permitted in brewery and cameras are not allowed, cell phones and smart phones with the camera function may be used at the end of the tour outside of the brewery. Bags must be checked at the entrance. Your tour explores the brewery's actual working spaces. Once participants join their tour, they will be required to complete a liability waiver.

Interesting! We had two people in our group with leather closed toed shoes and they said they were not appropriate. Guess they did not want to take our group of 8 through. Had we had the appropriate shoes it would have been free.

This brewery industry is 100% Mazatlecan, dating back to the year 1900, year in which this project, long cherished, finally took shape to give, firstly the city and later the region and the world, a generous and cordial beverage that so many of us proudly enjoy.

The Pacífico Brewery, now part of Grupo Modelo, got its start thanks to the strong presence of the German community here, whose entrepreneurial spirit detonated this industry as well as other aspects of local commerce. Mr. German Evers, Jorge Claussen and Emilio Philippi were the founders of this project that continues to set-off the economic development of this region.

The brewery plant was installed in the eastern part of what was then the City of Mazatlan, when the first means of transportation were covered wagons pulled by mules, which would travel to all corners of the port to deliver the product.

Ever since its beginning, the Pacífico Brewery has been an important job source and has actively contributed in the strengthening of the State's economy. Nowadays, this company sponsors various sports and cultural events on an ongoing basis.

There's a museum inside the brewery, highly-visited by tourists, especially cruise ship tourists, who enjoy the tour with an ice-cold Pacífico beer and a spectacular view of the city.

Pacífico beer is the ideal companion to local cuisine: either with fresh seafood, grilled bar-b-que meats or our Zarandeado fish that is broiled in hot coals, you can never go wrong with its refreshing amber presence. Its unequalled flavor is the perfect companion for summer evenings, Mardi gras parties or during the unanimous roar of the crowd at baseball games. It goes well with our best dishes, and likewise is a great appetizer drink before a meal, or the perfect complement to give a final touch to an excellent banquet.

The elaboration tower and its chimney are an inherent symbol of the city, a most common postcard when speaking or remembering the Pearl of the Pacific. An old saying among gourmet brewers states that the finest beer is that which can be enjoyed from a place where its plant's chimney can be seen, because this guarantees its freshness; and this is exactly what you can see in Mazatlan.

Enjoying an ice-cold Pacífico beer on the oceanfront is a pleasure you shouldn't miss during your visit to Mazatlan. And as their lifetime slogan says, [Pacifico]  “Nothing else!”.

Pacifico Brewery Tour in Mazatlan

Cool Cruiser

We're doing Carnival Splendor on December 6th and my boyfriend wants to hit up the Pacifico brewery in Mazatlan. It takes about half of our time there so I'm wondering if it is worth it. If it is just like any other brewery, I don't want to commit the time. Anybody have any input?

Hi Cooploops..........I am doing that one too. But not until March of next year. Looking forward to hearing about it when you get back. Take care and have a great cruise. Henry

Crewmates

Have you or your boyfriend been to any other brewery to see them make beer? If you answer "Yes", then ask yourself "How many ways can you commercially make beer?" If you answer "Not many." Then ask yourself "How many times have I been to Mexico and seen (fill in the blank) _____ in Mazatlan?" So, if you have been to a commercial brewery, agree that there are not many variants on the beer making process and have never been to Mazatlan or there are things in and around Mazatlan you have not seen or done, then maybe you should skip the Pacifico tour.

If you have never seen a commercial brewery, maybe you should consider it, or, consider going to see A-H-B in St. Louis, Coors in Golden, Co or Miller's in Milwaukee or any of the other US breweries scattered about the country and concentrating on the other stuff in Mazatlan.

I am going to Mazatlan for the 2nd time in December and I considered the Pacifico tour: it wasn't available the first time I was there and, I like Pacifico beer. I basically asked myself the same questions and decided to skip it and buy my Pacifico at a local cantina along with some fish tacos and relax.

I think you're right. I have been to the brewery in Golden and thought it was interesting but there's only so much wort I want to see. I think maybe I'll just see the town. Thanks!

Hi Cooploops,

Not sure if it is the same as the NCL Pacifico tour but if it is it was very fun. Yes you tour the brewery and get your free beers when you are done. But the beer tasting and a short movie takes place at the top of the brewery which has a 360 view of Mazatlan. We were able to get some incredible shots from up there. Then on the way back they took us on a town tour with our very knowledgable guide while passing out mini bottles of Pacifico. Diffrent then any other brewery tour I have done. Hope you have a good time no matter what you decide.

Jeff in Torrance

On one visit, we walked the approximately one mile to the Pacifico/Corona brewery, where we were given a very inclusive tour, followed by a beer at the "top of the tower" lounge. They also gave each of us a small momento brochure with our picture included. Cost ..........zero, plus some good exercise. The Princess ships seem pretty liberal in allowing passengers to bring beverages purchased ashore back onto the ship. One man in our brewery tour hauled four quarts of Pacifico back to the ship. We only took one.

There is no problem in walking to the brewery. You will be harassed for the first block or so, near the terminal. But, just say "no." Since the brewery tower sticks up rather visibly, it is easy to find. We just inquired at the office near the truck gate; and, were told to come back at the tour time. There were only five people on our tour.

You can certainly do the tour yourself. The tours start at 9am and 4pm weekdays and are limited to 30 people.

You MUST wear long pants and shoes. Sandals and open toe shoes are not allowed.

I'd recommend making a reservation.

The number from the US is: 011-52-669-982-7900. x1642. They should understand english.

I'm 6 3 and had only shorts. I borrowed a friends long Dockers for the tour. Problem was he was 5 8. Ouch. Never went anyway. Hurricane shut down power and tours were canceled. This year I'm bring my own long pants and will try again!

This will be the 5th attempt

This past February we were at the Pacifico souvenir store.

When we were walking past the tour gate there were a couple guys in shorts that were getting their souvenier pictures from the tour

I am speculating that perhaps they are not as hard nosed about the shorts as they once were..

Just returned from the tour it was about an hour. It seems they run the tours at 9am or 4pm sometimes at 11am but you need to call inadvance to set it up. I asked the hotel to call for me they did and we were all set. They tour you around and then give you tastings we were offered 3 beers each. It wan an awesome tour.
