SWIFT Smartcard

travel west midlands bus pass

SWIFT is the new easy and flexible way of travelling around the West Midlands.

There are four types of SWIFT card available:

Pay As You Go

The cashless way to buy single or day tickets for use on buses and the Metro.

  • Cheaper tickets than paying with cash
  • No need to find exact change
  • No photo, share with friends or family when you’re not using it
  • Auto top-up available, never run out of credit

Season Tickets

Most weekly, monthly and annual passes for travel on buses, Metro and trains are now only issued on SWIFT.

  • Great for commuters and students who travel often
  • Requires a photo – only you can use it
  • Easy to buy and renew online
  • Spread the cost with Direct Debit

Multi Day Tickets

A SWIFT card loaded with 5, 10 or 15 day tickets for all day travel on bus services.

  • Great for flexible or part time workers
  • Cheaper than buying a ticket on the day
  • Buy online or at your local Travel Centre
  • No photo, share with friends or family when not using it

Swift Go is here to cut out the confusion. This product takes away the need to understand which ticket to buy for your journey. A product, designed for those who don’t travel the traditional, Monday – Friday commute.

Once you’ve set up an account, choose how you want to pay, and use your Swift card each time you travel on the bus or tram. At the end of each day, we’ll calculate the cost, based on the number of journeys you’ve made and cap the price.

This could work out cheaper and more convenient than buying single or day tickets each time you need to travel.

Find out more information on the various types of SWIFT card available and how to use at the SWIFT website .

Metro Ticket Zones is LIVE!

The Metro network has been split into four zones (1-4). The new ticket range will see the majority of journeys either reduced in price or with no additional cost for customers.

Ticket questions

Metro ticket zones is the name of our ticketing range. To travel on our network, we have a zone-based ticketing system. By using this zone-based ticketing system this gives our customers the opportunity to purchase a ticket within their chosen zone, without the need to specify which stops they are travelling between which allows for greater flexibility in their travel plans.

No, it was recognised that the kinds of journeys that people make by tram are different from those made by train. This means that by adopting the same zonal boundaries as rail, we are not be able to offer the flexibility and value that has been built into our zonal ticket range.

The Metro Ticket Zones Map provides the full details of how the network has been split into four zones and can be used to check which zone your stop is in, and which ticket type you will need to complete your journey.

Where a stop has two zones, this is called a border stop. There are three border stops and these are shown on the Metro Ticket Zones Map with the stop name in a white box. If you are starting or ending your journey at a border stop, you will not be charged for both zones. The zone that you pay for will depend on your direction of travel.

There are three stops (Jewellery Quarter, Black Lake and Priestfield) that are on the border of two zones, which means these stops are in two fare zones. This can be seen on the Metro Ticket Zones Map with the stop name in a white box.

If you are starting or ending your journey at a border stop then your zone will depend on the direction of travel. For example, Jewellery Quarter is on the border of Zone 1 and 2. Therefore, if you travel from Jewellery Quarter to a stop in Zone 1, you should treat Jewellery Quarter as a stop in Zone 1. If you travel to Zone 2 and beyond, you should treat Jewellery Quarter as a stop in Zone 2.

The range of tickets available to purchase are simplified to ensure that you have the correct ticket for your journey and to ensure that customers receive the best value for their travel needs.

Tickets range from a single (one way) to unlimited journeys all day, in a variety of zonal combinations, giving customers even more flexibility. Our popular season tickets also include zonal options, delivering a saving for many customers on their frequent journeys. Children enjoy a 50% discount on the adult ticket price.

The fare table sets out all of the ticketing options. Please check to see which ticket will be best for your travel needs.

Tickets are available to purchase from our conductors onboard the tram, using the MyMetro app, or via Swift. Metro ticket zones will also be available to buy at Payzone outlets.

Metro Ticket Zones is now available to purchase on Payzone systems.

Please visit Payzone or call our ticketing team on 0345 835 8181 for information about alternative ways that you can buy a zonal ticket and ensure that you are receiving the best value for your journey with Metro -during the short period between the new zonal fares going live and the upgrade being completed for Payzone outlets.

Yes, our Metro only passes and season tickets offer great value as customers are able to pay for their travel in advance, only in the areas of the network that they need to use.

Metro Ticket Zones fares are currently only available for Metro-only products.

Please call our ticketing team on 0345 835 8181 for more information about the zonal combinations that are available for Direct Debit customers. They will be happy to check that you are using the best value product for the journeys that you make and will arrange for any changes to be made to your account.

Moscow CityPass

Moscow CityPass is a sightseeing card which allows you free entry to museums, Moscow city tour, sightseeing bus tour and Moscow river cruise. What's more you'll get discounts on products and services from our partners. With Moscow CityPass you can skip the lines to the popular attractions (like Kremlin, Tretyakov Gallery and etc.) and save time as well.     There are 1, 3 and 5 days passes, Which includes free entrance to more than 40 museums, a walking excursion, a city sightseeing bus tour around Moscow and river cruise on a stunning Radisson Royal yacht. 1 day pass helps to save up to 30%, 3 and 5 days passes up to 70%.     How to plan your trip in advance wisely? At first, choose the museums you are going to visit. Kremlin, State Historical Museum, Saint Basil's Cathedral and taking photo on Red square may take about 2,5 - 3 hours. Decide what to do next. A bus tour around the city, a cruise or walking tour? Let us say you choose a Hop-on Hop-off City Sightseeing Bus Tour, which is free with Moscow CityPass. The red double-decker buses will take you around all of the key sites and tell about it in 8 languages. The first route covers the historical center of Moscow, the second the main embankment and their sites.      Then go to Izmaylovo (Partizanskaya metro station). There is a great traditional Kremlin with a flea market where souvenirs and some funny soviet stuff are sold. Besides it is strongly recommended to visit Vodka Museum with mead tasting in there. The other day you may take a 2,5 hour walking excursion with Moscow Free Tour, which is the best travel guides according to TripAdvisor. You will visit Varvarka street, Romanovs Chambers, the Kremlin etc. The tour starts at 10.45 daily at Kitay-Gorod metro station, next to Cyril and Methodius monument.      After that, take a yacht trip along the Moscow River as long as you are a bit tired of walking. Radisson yacht navigate 365 days a year with fixed schedule, audio-guided tour in 2 languages and free wi-fi. There is an exquisite restaurant on board that serve mainly Italian cuisine at reasonable prices. The cruise takes about 2,5-3 hours.
