A note about Trek road bike model numbers: in general, higher model numbers mean higher original prices. This is especially true of models within a particular year.

1993+ RETAIL PRICES FOR TREKS

Suggested retail prices for Treks from 1993 to current are included in the specifications at BikePedia.com . These are listed under "Sugg Retail" for each bike. This database is a great resource.

The Trek Bike Archives , covering 2003 and newer Treks, also contains suggested retail prices.

LISTING OF TREK RETAIL PRICES BY MODEL AND YEAR

Visitors to this site have submitted the following pricing information for various Trek models at the time they were new. The prices are a combination of list prices and selling prices. (If you have any pricing on Trek steel road bike models, please send it along so it can be added here.)

WHAT IS MY USED TREK WORTH? (If "PRICELESS!" is not sufficiently accurate for you.)

eBay.com is the best practical guide. It can tell you what similar bikes recently sold for on eBay. Try search/ advanced search/ check "completed items only". This way, you get the final prices paid. Search for words like "Trek road" with words to exclude "aluminum carbon". You also can search more specifically, such as for "Trek 400". You might need to try for a few weeks to find a bike similar to yours, if it is not a common model.

To compare a local sale to an eBay sale, you should add the cost of shipping to the eBay price. A low value bike can be hard to sell on eBay for top dollar if the bike is to be shipped, as that can add $50 or more to the price.

Craigslist.org can provide some information about current prices. However, these are asking prices, not the actual price for which the bike was sold. One can search by region on the Craigslist.org site. One can search for an item on Craigslist overall (not just by region). Use a search engine (Google or Yahoo etc.) and include "Craigslist" as the first keyword. Follow this by what you are looking for. For example "Craigslist Trek 760".

A very rough measure of current selling price is to multiply the original selling price by a percentage. See the price information above for prices of many Treks when new. For bikes 1976 to about 1983, one can use a range of 40% to 70% for a bike. For bikes from about 1984 to 1990, one can use 33% to 50% of the original selling price. This is for bikes with good to excellent paint and in good to excellent overall condition. Condition is very important. A bike in mint condition will sell well above these ranges, perhaps at or above the original price when new. A bike in poor condition, especially one with significant rust inside and out, has little value.

The percentage for selling frames is higher than for bikes because the frames are less outdated than old components. For frames 1976 to 1983, one can use a range of 40% to 100%. For frames from about 1984 to 1990, one can use 33% to 80% of the original selling price. This is for frames in good to excellent overall condition.

The bike values above are useful only if the potential buyer is a person who appreciates a vintage lightweight or specifically, a vintage Trek. A vintage road bike offered at a garage sale might never be sold, even for a ridiculously low price, because it is unlikely the right buyer will come along. See Selling Suggestions for help in finding the right buyer.

Value can vary by season . Road bikes typically sell for more money and more quickly in the Spring and early Summer. An exception is for local sales in regions that don't have cold or rainy Fall and Winter seasons. Another exception is high end collector bikes, which tend to be season independent.

SMALL VINTAGE LIGHTWEIGHT BIKES SELL FOR LESS?

Smaller vintage road frames/bikes often do not sell for as much as a larger version of the same frame. This is true of the 21” (54cm) size and especially the 19” (48cm) frames. Nineteen inch frames/bikes can sell at a discount of up to 40% over their larger brethren. The lesser value is easily demonstrated; for example, by looking at eBay selling prices. (An exception to this general rule is for classic French and Italian bikes, which are highly valued by [older] Japanese collectors.)

Why would this be? Certainly Trek sold bikes of these sizes to willing buyers in the late 1970s and early to mid 1980s at the same price as for larger bikes. There must have been the right number of smaller men, women and kids to buy them. Are Americans that much bigger now? A recent scientific study says no. Certainly most kids, as they grow up and need larger bikes, will pass through these size ranges.

I believe older bikes are bought and kept by people interested in fixing or working on them. These owners need a bit of expertise to get the bikes properly back on the road or keep them on the road (or even just to keep them in a collection). It also takes effort and knowledge to locate replacement parts. New riders tend to buy new bikes and only slowly (if at all) learn how to repair them. For parents to buy a used bike for their (smaller) children, requires that the parents be bike savvy, which eliminates lots of potential small bike users. Bike repair and maintenance generally do not interest women (there are major exceptions to this rule), who are a major fraction of people who would use the smaller bikes.

Even if a person wanted to have a shop maintain their classic Nuovo Record, Super Record, or SunTour Superbe-equipped bike, the shops with that knowledge are rare and the parts cannot be bought from their typical suppliers.

The good news, for those of us built close to the ground, is that we can buy vintage lightweight bikes at favorable prices.

Privacy Overview

  • Most purposes explained in this notice rely on the storage or accessing of information from your device when you use an app or visit a website. For example, a vendor or publisher might need to store a cookie on your device during your first visit on a website, to be able to recognise your device during your next visits (by accessing this cookie each time).
  • A car manufacturer wants to promote its electric vehicles to environmentally conscious users living in the city after office hours. The advertising is presented on a page with related content (such as an article on climate change actions) after 6:30 p.m. to users whose non-precise location suggests that they are in an urban zone.
  • A large producer of watercolour paints wants to carry out an online advertising campaign for its latest watercolour range, diversifying its audience to reach as many amateur and professional artists as possible and avoiding showing the ad next to mismatched content (for instance, articles about how to paint your house). The number of times that the ad has been presented to you is detected and limited, to avoid presenting it too often.
  • If you read several articles about the best bike accessories to buy, this information could be used to create a profile about your interest in bike accessories. Such a profile may be used or improved later on, on the same or a different website or app to present you with advertising for a particular bike accessory brand. If you also look at a configurator for a vehicle on a luxury car manufacturer website, this information could be combined with your interest in bikes to refine your profile and make an assumption that you are interested in luxury cycling gear.
  • An apparel company wishes to promote its new line of high-end baby clothes. It gets in touch with an agency that has a network of clients with high income customers (such as high-end supermarkets) and asks the agency to create profiles of young parents or couples who can be assumed to be wealthy and to have a new child, so that these can later be used to present advertising within partner apps based on those profiles.
  • An online retailer wants to advertise a limited sale on running shoes. It wants to target advertising to users who previously looked at running shoes on its mobile app. Tracking technologies might be used to recognise that you have previously used the mobile app to consult running shoes, in order to present you with the corresponding advertisement on the app.
  • A profile created for personalised advertising in relation to a person having searched for bike accessories on a website can be used to present the relevant advertisement for bike accessories on a mobile app of another organisation.
  • You read several articles on how to build a treehouse on a social media platform. This information might be added to a profile to mark your interest in content related to outdoors as well as do-it-yourself guides (with the objective of allowing the personalisation of content, so that for example you are presented with more blog posts and articles on treehouses and wood cabins in the future).
  • You have viewed three videos on space exploration across different TV apps. An unrelated news platform with which you have had no contact builds a profile based on that viewing behaviour, marking space exploration as a topic of possible interest for other videos.
  • You read articles on vegetarian food on a social media platform and then use the cooking app of an unrelated company. The profile built about you on the social media platform will be used to present you vegetarian recipes on the welcome screen of the cooking app.
  • You have viewed three videos about rowing across different websites. An unrelated video sharing platform will recommend five other videos on rowing that may be of interest to you when you use your TV app, based on a profile built about you when you visited those different websites to watch online videos.
  • You have clicked on an advertisement about a “black Friday” discount by an online shop on the website of a publisher and purchased a product. Your click will be linked to this purchase. Your interaction and that of other users will be measured to know how many clicks on the ad led to a purchase.
  • You are one of very few to have clicked on an advertisement about an “international appreciation day” discount by an online gift shop within the app of a publisher. The publisher wants to have reports to understand how often a specific ad placement within the app, and notably the “international appreciation day” ad, has been viewed or clicked by you and other users, in order to help the publisher and its partners (such as agencies) optimise ad placements.
  • You have read a blog post about hiking on a mobile app of a publisher and followed a link to a recommended and related post. Your interactions will be recorded as showing that the initial hiking post was useful to you and that it was successful in interesting you in the related post. This will be measured to know whether to produce more posts on hiking in the future and where to place them on the home screen of the mobile app.
  • You were presented a video on fashion trends, but you and several other users stopped watching after 30 seconds. This information is then used to evaluate the right length of future videos on fashion trends.
  • The owner of an online bookstore wants commercial reporting showing the proportion of visitors who consulted and left its site without buying, or consulted and bought the last celebrity autobiography of the month, as well as the average age and the male/female distribution of each category. Data relating to your navigation on its site and to your personal characteristics is then used and combined with other such data to produce these statistics.
  • An advertiser wants to better understand the type of audience interacting with its adverts. It calls upon a research institute to compare the characteristics of users who interacted with the ad with typical attributes of users of similar platforms, across different devices. This comparison reveals to the advertiser that its ad audience is mainly accessing the adverts through mobile devices and is likely in the 45-60 age range.
  • A technology platform working with a social media provider notices a growth in mobile app users, and sees based on their profiles that many of them are connecting through mobile connections. It uses a new technology to deliver ads that are formatted for mobile devices and that are low-bandwidth, to improve their performance.
  • An advertiser is looking for a way to display ads on a new type of consumer device. It collects information regarding the way users interact with this new kind of device to determine whether it can build a new mechanism for displaying advertising on this type of device.
  • A travel magazine has published an article on its website about the new online courses proposed by a language school, to improve travelling experiences abroad. The school’s blog posts are inserted directly at the bottom of the page, and selected on the basis of your non-precise location (for instance, blog posts explaining the course curriculum for different languages than the language of the country you are situated in).
  • A sports news mobile app has started a new section of articles covering the most recent football games. Each article includes videos hosted by a separate streaming platform showcasing the highlights of each match. If you fast-forward a video, this information may be used to select a shorter video to play next.
  • An advertising intermediary delivers ads from various advertisers to its network of partnering websites. It notices a large increase in clicks on ads relating to one advertiser, and uses data regarding the source of the clicks to determine that 80% of the clicks come from bots rather than humans.
  • Clicking on a link in an article might normally send you to another page or part of the article. To achieve this, 1°) your browser sends a request to a server linked to the website, 2°) the server answers back (“here is the article you asked for”), using technical information automatically included in the request sent by your device, to properly display the information / images that are part of the article you asked for. Technically, such exchange of information is necessary to deliver the content that appears on your screen.

Is The Trek 6000 Mountain Bike Worth Buying? [Trek 6000 Review]

Table of Contents

Manufacturers will gradually abandon mountain bikes that are affordable while still providing good value for money.

However, as a cycling enthusiast, you are always looking for a mountain bike that fits you and is suitable for daily use.

With this comprehensive review of the Trek 6000 mountain bike, welcome to the Best Bike Select blog.

What are the Trek 6000 mountain bike’s features, as well as its advantages and disadvantages? We have detailed instructions on how to purchase a it.

Are you in a hurry? Let’s get this party started.

Trek 6000 mountain bike

Features of Trek 6000 mountain bike

Stylish appearance (4.0/5).

2010 Trek 6000

The Trek 6000, like most men’s mountain bikes, has a dark paint job. The mystery and premium feel of Mount Grey/Gloss Black are palpable.

Gray is one of the most versatile colors, and Mount Grey is one of the few attractive grays. The frame’s exterior design is similar to that of Trek mountain bikes.

The stylish appearance of men’s mountain bikes reflects the rider’s taste.

Alpha Gold Aluminium Frame (4.0/5)

Frame composition: Alpha Gold Aluminum w/semi-integrated head tube, formed down tube w/integrated gusset, formed top tube, monostay seatstay, forged dropouts w/ rack & fender mounts. Smooth welded joints and sturdy special frame construction.

Can accompany the rider for quite a long time. Comfortable headtube angle, perfect for casual riders.

30 speed (4.5/5)

2009 Trek 6000

That’s right, the Trek 6000’s 2012-style 3 X10 gear configuration combines to create 30 different speeds.

Despite the fact that 1X mountain bikes are currently popular. An exaggerated 30 different speeds, on the other hand, is a very rare presence in any brand of mountain bike.

It increases the adaptation and learning curve, but this does not deter riders who enjoy multi-speed mountain bikes. Of course, the Trek 6000 is still a 27-speed mountain bike in 2009.

A comfortable ride is impossible to achieve without a good speed mix. You have 30 speeds at your disposal; learn the hard way.

Shock front fork (4.0/5)

The 2009 model had a RockShox Dart 3 shock fork, but the latest 6000 has an SR Suntour XCR-RL shock fork with 100mm of travel.

This is the bare minimum for trail riding, and it’s difficult to match the Trek in terms of shock absorption when compared to the 70-90mm shock forks on cheap mountain bikes.

The shock fork has enough damping effect for riding on rocky roads, but it cannot be ridden intensely for long periods of time, making it unsuitable for intermediate riders.

When the road is flat, the spring knob can be used to suspend the work of the shock fork, allowing the rider to convert the power to maximum and increase the speed of the ride.

26×2.2″ tires (4.0/5)

2011 6000

The Trek 6000 rides on Bontrager 26×2.2″ tires, which are narrow mountain tires with more limitations for riding in difficult terrain. It can ride smoothly and without skidding on muddy trails.

On rough surfaces, it also effectively converts riding power into tire grip.

Hydraulic disc brakes (5/5)

The brakes on the new 6000 mountain bike have been improved. The 2009 Trek 6000 still used Avid BB 5 mechanical brakes, but the new model uses advanced and popular hydraulic disc brakes that require less maintenance or are maintenance-free.

A sharp descending downhill section requires very little force to stop. More drifting maneuvers are also possible. (Because of the danger, newcomers should practice on flat roads first, then move on to mountain roads.)

Adjustable handlebar and seat height (5/5)

When riders select a suitable mountain bike, one of the more debatable points is how well the frame size and height match.

There are a lot of mountain bikes on the market that don’t have much adjustability. The Trek 6000 mountain bike has a handlebar height adjustment with a 15mm rise.

In addition, there is a 9 degree rear sweep. Adjusting the seat height necessitates the use of a tool.

Quick release front and rear wheels

Both the front and rear wheels have quick-release mechanisms for simple maintenance and adjustment at any time.

The installation will also be quite simple; if you want to update some accessories manually, you will only need basic tools to complete them.

15.5″, 17.5″,18.5″,19.5″,21.5″.

  • How much does the Trek 6000 body weigh?

Approximately 26.6 lbs.

  • What body colors are available for the Trek 6000?

Trek 6000 mountain bike red is the 2009 model. The latest Trek 6000 bicycle is Paramount Grey/Gloss Black.

  • Trek 6000 mountain bike price?

There are still some 2012 Trek 6000 mountain bikes available for purchase offline. The price is expected to be around $800. Depending on whether some of the features have been upgraded.

If you own a used Trek 6000 it will be valued based on the condition of the bike. 2009 Trek 6000 bicycle trade-in price is estimated to be $80.

  • Is the Trek 6000 mountain bike worth buying?

The configuration, the 30-speed number, and the hydraulic disc brakes are appealing to beginners.

The integration of these components into a high-quality cross-country mountain bike. It is well worth the money if you are looking to purchase your first mountain bike.

With a comfortable ride, an off-road configuration, and the ability to use it as a commuter bike, this is not a particularly good choice for an intermediate rider.

After all, you want better technical advancements, and woodland adventures necessitate better gear. So whether it’s worthwhile to buy depends on whether you’re a casual rider.

Bicycle Comparison

Trek 820 mountain bike vs trek 6000.

Trek 820

Trek 820 has two types of frames, if you are a female rider, you can consider Trek 820 WSD, a frame suitable for female riding, and the Sky Blue paint is very bright.

There aren’t many differences between the Trek 820 and Trek 6000 in terms of configuration. The Trek 820 is a low-cost mountain bike that can meet the needs of commuting and low-difficulty mountain riding at a low cost.

However, if you enjoy mountain riding, the Trek 6000 is ideal. 30 speeds almost completely outperform the 21-speed configuration, and while 10 and 11 speeds are popular now, I still prefer the 30-speed Trek 6000.

Excellent maneuverability is provided by hydraulic disc brakes. There are also wider tires, which add to the difficulty of mountain riding. The 6000 is an excellent choice for improved mountain riding.

The Trek 820 is currently the hot newbie mountain bike. We have also done a full review of it, if you want to know more you can click more.

Learn more: Is The Trek 820 Mountain Bike Really Suitable For Newbies?

Trek Marlin 5 mountain bike vs Trek 6000

Trek Marlin 5

The Trek Marlin 5 is very similar to the Trek 6000, and it is not very expensive.

More details, such as the internal alignment, which is cleaner than the Trek 6000 and protects the cables from damage, have been optimized. The same hydraulic disc brakes, no discernible difference in braking effect.

The Trek Marlin 5’s style is enhanced by the gorgeous paint color.

Young people may dislike the dull black, and the bright colors make for a more visually appealing commuter ride.

However, the speed is limited to a 2X8 configuration, which is slightly slower than the Trek 6000. The Trek Marlin 5 is an excellent choice for anyone new to trail riding or looking for a comfortable, stable commuter with the ruggedness of a true mountain bike.

The Trek Marlin 5 is also an excellent replacement for the Trek 6000.

Schwinn High Timber VS Trek 6000

Schwinn High Timber Mountain Bike

The Schwinn High Timber is one of the best options for those on a tight budget who want to get their hands on one right away, and it also comes with a good warranty.

The Schwinn High Timber is reasonably priced, but it lacks the features of the Trek 6000. 27.5-inch medium size tires are also an inexpensive tire size to replace.

The Schwinn High Timber has mechanical disc brakes front and rear, without the ease of braking with hydraulic brakes, but compared to The Schwinn High Timber is more for the casual rider, and at an affordable price, many entry-level riders like them.

For those who want to know more, we have also done a detailed review specifically for the Schwinn High Timber .

Final rating (4.5/5)

The Trek 6000 is a high-quality mountain bike from Trek that is perfect for entry-level mountain riders. If you are a new mountain rider, you are not familiar with it, but you can get a good impression of the Trek 6000 with this review. Performance and ride quality.

Our experience with the Trek 6500 mountain bike has been nothing short of amazing. The bike's performance on trails is exceptional, tackling technical singletracks and long rides with ease.

Its Shimano Deore components provide a smooth and responsive drivetrain, allowing for efficient pedaling on climbs and flat terrain. The suspension system, consisting of a front fork, offers excellent shock absorption.

This allows the rider to maintain control and confidence when navigating corners, bumps, and hills. Additionally, the bike is equipped with disc brakes, providing reliable stopping power in various riding conditions.

Durability and Longevity

We found the Trek 6500's frame to be incredibly durable, and capable of withstanding rough trails and harsh riding conditions. The wheels and rims also contribute to the bike's longevity.

They have been built to endure the demands of mountain biking. We believe that this bike will last for many years, making it a suitable investment for riders who want a reliable and lasting mountain bike.

Workmanship and Design

The design of the Trek 6500 is both functional and aesthetically pleasing. The top tube is sleek and modern, while the frame's geometry provides excellent handling and maneuverability.

The components, such as the front derailleur and rear derailleur, are of high quality and have been thoughtfully integrated into the overall design. Here are some standout features of the bike:

  • Frame: Lightweight and sturdy for optimal performance
  • Suspension system: Front fork for improved shock absorption and comfort
  • Components: High-quality Shimano Deore parts for optimal functionality
  • Wheels: Durable and versatile for various trail conditions

Comfort and User Experience

Riding the Trek 6500 mountain bike has been an enjoyable and fun experience for us. The seat and body positioning make long rides comfortable, and the responsive suspension helps absorb bumps and impacts from rough terrain.

We have found the bike to be suitable for both beginner and advanced riders, as it offers a great balance between performance and comfort. Moreover, the bike's lightweight design and agile handling make it easy to maneuver on different types of trails.

This includes gravel, sand, and technical singletrack. This adaptability, combined with its durable components and frame, makes the Trek 6500 an excellent choice for those looking to invest in a high-quality mountain bike without breaking the bank.

Our Experience Riding The Trek 6500

This section will discuss our experience riding the Trek 6500 mountain bike, focusing on its performance in various situations. We'll cover its descending and climbing abilities, road performance, and braking and handling features.

Descending & Climbing

The Trek 6500 is an excellent choice for mountain biking enthusiasts who love tackling steep climbs and fast descents. With a solid frame and good suspension, the bike easily handles technical singletrack and rugged terrain.

Its front fork provides sufficient shock absorption to keep riders comfortable, helping maintain control and traction on rocky trails.

When it comes to climbing, the Trek 6500's lightweight and responsive drivetrain gives riders an advantage on steep inclines. The smooth-shifting Shimano Deore front derailleur ensures reliable gear changes, allowing us to preserve our energy for tougher sections of the trail.

Road Performance

While primarily designed for off-road terrains, the Trek 6500 performs reasonably well on paved surfaces too. We found that it offers a comfortable ride for longer distances, thanks to its well-balanced frame and sturdy wheels.

Its versatile range of gears can adapt to varying gradients, though it's important to note that the bike's knobby tires are more suitable for trails than for smooth roads.

Braking & Handling

The Trek 6500 bike comes with disc brakes that provide reliable stopping power in various conditions, be it muddy trails or fast descents. We appreciate the bike's strong braking performance, which instilled confidence while navigating technical sections and sharp corners.

In terms of handling, the bike's light and stiff frame responds well to rider input. Its wide handlebars and well-placed controls ensure that maintaining control in tight spots and navigating switchbacks is no trouble at all.

Can I Use My Trek 6500 On The Road?

While the Trek 6500 is primarily designed as a mountain bike, it's versatile enough to handle on-road conditions easily. Its robust frame and durable components ensure a smooth and reliable ride, whether you're navigating city streets or countryside roads.

The wider tires, typical of mountain bikes, provide increased stability and comfort on the pavement, especially over uneven surfaces or potholes. However, it's worth noting that the knobby tread pattern, ideal for off-road traction, might result in slightly more rolling resistance on smooth surfaces compared to pure road bikes.

If you're considering using the Trek 6500 predominantly on roads, you might want to invest in hybrid or road-specific tires for a more efficient and faster ride. With minor adjustments, the Trek 6500 can serve as a competent and comfortable on-road companion.

How Long Will The Trek 6500 Last?

Durability and longevity are cornerstones of the Trek brand, and the 6500 is no exception. Constructed with a high-grade aluminum frame, it's built to withstand the rigors of mountain biking, from rocky trails to mud-laden paths.

The bike's components, from the drivetrain to the suspension system, are chosen for their resilience and reliability. The Trek 6500 can serve avid mountain bikers for many years with proper maintenance and regular check-ups.

However, it's important to note that the bike's lifespan can vary based on usage intensity, rider's care, and external conditions. But given its robust construction and the brand's reputation for quality, one can confidently expect the 6500 to be a long-term companion on the trails.

Is The Trek 6500 Worth Buying?

Value for money is a critical factor when considering any mountain bike, and the Trek 6500 shines in this department. It offers a blend of top-notch features, comfort, and performance at a competitive price point.

The bike's design caters to both casual riders and those seeking more intense off-road experiences, making it versatile for various terrains and rider preferences. Its responsive handling, sturdy frame, and reliable components ensure a consistently enjoyable ride.

Moreover, Trek's long-standing reputation in cycling guarantees post-purchase support and easy access to spare parts or upgrades. Other reviews would support this analysis because this dependable mountain bike blends durability and performance.

Lucid’s longest-range air grand touring gets faster charging, 516 miles range at a lower price.

Avatar for Peter Johnson

New details on the longest-range electric car in the US, the Lucid Air Grand Touring, have been revealed. Lucid’s new 2024 Air Grand Touring gains faster charging, a heat pump, and 516 miles range (in more conditions). And you get all that for a 12% discount compared to last year’s model.

Lucid Air Grand Touring gets upgraded, still 516-mi range

The longest-range EV in the US is getting even better. Lucid upgraded the 2024 Air Grand Touring for better efficiency and faster charging.

Lucid’s new GT model is now equipped with the high-performance Air Sapphires’ heat pump. This allows the 2024 Grand Touring to deliver “outstanding range even in extremely cold conditions.”

The proprietary motor design, battery cell chemistry, and thermal features have been enhanced to reduce wasted energy as heat even during “sustained spirited” driving.

Lucid says the 2024 GT model features about 15% to 30% faster DC charging speeds to quickly get you back on the road. The 2024MY gains improved automatic preconditioning as you travel to the charging station, enabling faster charging once you plug it in.

The 2024 Air Grand Touring keeps its 516-mile EPA-estimated range, the longest of any EV in the US.

Lucid-Air-Grand-Touring-Range

However, with a borrowed heat pump from the Sapphire, Lucid says the Grand Touring can deliver outstanding range in a broader range of real-world conditions.

“The Air Grand Touring is our longest-range car – in fact the longest-range EV available today – and is now further optimized with a multitude of powertrain updates, including the Air Sapphire heat pump,” CEO Peter Rawlinson explained.

Lucid-Air-Grand-Touring

The 2024 Lucid Air Grand Touring starts at $109,900. That’s a 12.5% price cut from the $125,600 starting price in January.

Looks like a Tesla Model S killer to me. And I'm speaking as someone who's been actively looking to replace his 2020 fully loaded (ludicrous, FSD, free supercharging for life) Model S. IDK much about Lucid's track record, reliability or, frankly, prospects for remaining in business. When I bought my Model S in 2020, the 9 year old design was still crisp and many of the manufacturing issues had been resolved (although the tech was still disturbingly buggy). And Elon was still closer to Tony Stark than the Orange Menace. While the design is now getting stale, it's still a gorgeous car and outperforms just about anything else on the road. But this Lucid definitely turns my head.

Lucid’s 2024 Air lineup includes:

Lucid slashed prices on 2024 Air models by up to $7,500 in February. The EV maker is already seeing the results, with a record first-quarter delivery total.

The EV maker handed over 1,967 Air models in Q1, topping its previous quarterly delivery record of 1,932 in Q4 2022.

Lucid expects to build 9,000 electric cars this year, with 2,391 made in the first three months of the year.

WASHINGTON (AP) — Japanese Prime Minister Fumio Kishida cracked jokes and invoked a touchstone of American culture as he quoted from “Star Trek” at Wednesday’s state dinner , telling guests at the White House that he hoped the “unshakable relationship” between his country and the U.S. would “boldly go where no one had gone before.”

“I would like to propose a toast to our voyage to the frontier of the Japan-U.S. relationship with this word: boldly go,” Kishida said, quoting the iconic opening monologue of the original “Star Trek” series.

Kishida, who spoke in English, and President Joe Biden exchanged warm toasts to each other and the decades-long, alliance between their nations as top figures from business, sports and politics — including an ex-president — looked on. The two leaders, who expressed a genuine friendship, pledged to continue to knit together their countries’ interests in the face of global challenges.

Biden , 81, said he and Kishida, 66, came of age as their countries forged a strong bond in the decades after they were pitted against each other in World War II.

“We both remember the choices that were made to forge a friendship,” Biden said. “We both remember the hard work, what it has done to find healing.”

“Tonight,” Biden continued, “We pledge to keep going.”

As the White House served up a maximum dose of pomp to honor its close U.S. ally, notable guests included Bill and Hillary Clinton, who were on familiar turf for the event. The former president declared it “feels great” to be back before casting an appreciative eye at a portrait of his wife from her first lady days that was on display nearby.

Guests in bright spring colors and lots of shimmery gowns chatted politics and talked shop as they strolled in — that meant eclipse chatter from NASA Administrator Bill Nelson (“fabulous” view in Ohio!) and an assessment of Biden’s electoral prospects in Wisconsin from Gov. Tony Evers (looking good!).

But on a day when the inflation news from Washington was less than encouraging, Federal Reserve Chairman Jay Powell shot past reporters without stopping to chat. Olympic figure skater Kristi Yamaguchi, in a purple gown, said she didn’t expect to be out campaigning for Biden but nonetheless seemed bullish on his reelection. Actor Robert De Niro supplied the night’s Hollywood quotient and seemed to channel one of his tough-talking characters when he was asked for his thoughts about the 2024 election.

“What do you think?” he retorted.

On a warm spring evening, the Bidens came stepped onto the North Portico to welcome Kishida and his wife, Yuko, who stood out in a flowing royal blue gown on the red carpet.

Inside, Jill Biden , wearing a beaded sapphire gown, had transformed the State Floor of the White House into what she called a “vibrant spring garden” for the evening. The floor of the famous Cross Hall was decorated with images giving the nearly 230 guests the feel of walking over a koi pond, a nod to fish that symbolize “friendship, peace, luck and perseverance,” the first lady said at a media preview Tuesday.

Guests at the head table with the Bidens and Kishidas included the Clintons, De Niro and Japanese pop duo Yoasobi.

Kishida, in his toast at the dinner, enthused over the splendor.

“First and foremost, to be honest my breath is taken and I’m speechless in front of such a huge number of prominent American and Japanese guests,” he said.

A state dinner is a tool of U.S. diplomacy, an honor doled out sparingly and only to America’s closest allies. In the case of Japan, the president has granted that honor for just the fifth time to an ally that he sees as a cornerstone of his policy toward the Indo-Pacific region.

Kishida is on an official visit to the United States this week. The state dinner is Biden’s first this year.

The guests included plenty of Biden family members, including granddaughter Naomi and her husband, Peter Neal. Business moguls also were in force, including JP Morgan Chase CEO Jamie Dimon, Apple CEO Tim Cook and Amazon founder Jeff Bezos. Labor luminaries United Auto Workers President Shawn Fain and United Steelworkers President David McCall were also in attenddance. Both unions have endorsed Biden for reelection.

Dry-aged rib eye steak, cherry blossoms and the music of Paul Simon were also part of the evening. Simon opened his after-dinner performance by playing guitar and singing two of his major hits, “Graceland” and “Slip Slidin’ Away.”

Guests dined on a meal that was designed to highlight the “bounty of spring” in Japan and the United States: a first course of house-cured salmon that was inspired by a California roll and an entree of rib eye with shishito pepper butter, fava beans, mushrooms and onions. Dessert was salted caramel pistachio cake with a matcha ganache and cherry ice cream.

Some of Jill Biden’s favorite flowers, including sweet peas, roses and peonies, were arranged alongside imported cherry blossoms to decorate a mix of round and rectangular dinner tables in the East Room in shades of pink. A few floral centerpieces topped out at 6 feet (1.8 meters) tall.

Tables were set with a mix of place settings representing the administrations of Presidents Lyndon B. Johnson and George W. Bush. Glass and silk butterflies danced over the tables.

Simon is one of Jill Biden’s favorite artists, the White House said, adding that she chose him as a special tribute to Kishida because the prime minister also admires his music.

Simon’s career spans six decades, including performing as part of a duo with his childhood friend Art Garfunkel. The 82-year-old New Jersey native has earned numerous accolades, including multiple Grammys and a place in the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame.

Kishida is the fifth world leader Biden has honored with a state dinner following counterparts from France , South Korea , India and Australia .
