The Inner Ring

2024 Pro Cycling Calendar

Here’s the 2024 pro cycling calendar. You can subscribe or download an iCal file to import the same calendar into your organiser, phone and computer diary. All of the UCI men’s and women’s pro races around the world are included.

inrng pro race calendar menu

There is a permanent link to the calendar at the top of the inrng.com home page if you just want to visit from time to time ( mobile users : tap “menu” at the top of the page for the drop down menu and then > Pro Cycling Calendar) .

iCal An iCal is a calendar file that you can store on your phone or electronic diary like Outlook or Calendar. There are several ways to get this on to your computer or phone.

Subscribe and get automatic updates : The recommended option is to subscribe by copying the iCal URL :

https://calendar.google.com/calendar/ical/372129ce15ae495d7a21c14a24f777773bbcb8dba7d0606c52b20a3fd1ceee2b%40group.calendar.google.com/public/basic.ics

The descriptions below should help but with device and software update they might not always be the exact path.

  • If you use MacOS copy the URL… and open the Calendar app. Then got to File > New Calendar Subscription…) and paste in the link and you’re done
  • iPhone/iPad users should push and hold down a finger here , wait for the pop up message and select “Copy Link”. Then on your device go to settings > calendar > accounts  > add account > other > add subscribed calendar > paste in the URL in the server field
  • If you use Microsoft Outlook on the web copy the URL and then go to Calendar/Calendar icon > Open Calendar > From Internet > and paste the URL to subscribe > OK > Yes
  • Google Calendar : If you use Google Calendar then click on the icon on the bottom-right of the calendar up at the top of the page. Note this method can work with Android phones when the iCal file might not although you might need the Google Sync calendar app.

The subscription methods above are the best because any additions, deletion and amendments will automatically be pushed to your diary or device. Sadly races will get cancelled, some shortened and others moved. It’s all on Google, you’re not downloading a file or importing data from this blog.

Subscribe and any changes will be fed through automatically .

Direct download : if you can’t do the above, you can download the iCal file for your organiser, phone, computer and other devices from here.

That’s the URL above or right-click here to save the ics / iCal / iCalendar file and you can import it into your electronic diary. If you have trouble with the subscription then this is an easier option but it means you’re saving today’s version of the calendar and it’s bound to change so you should download the new version a few times a year in order to get the amendments and corrections.

Calendar Labels Explained Each race is listed along with its location and UCI status eg World Tour, Pro Series or 2.1.

  • Any race with the 1. prefix, like 1.UWT, 1.Pro, 1.1 is a one day race; any race with the 2. prefix like 2.WWT, 2.Pro, 2.1 is a stage race
  • UWT means the men’s World Tour and includes all the prime races on the calendar, from the three grand tours (Giro d’Italia, Tour de France, Vuelta a España) to the one day classics like Paris-Roubaix, the Tour of Flanders and Il Lombardia, as well as others like the Tour of Poland or the Tour Down Under and can be anywhere in the world. Normally all men’s WorldTeams must ride, organisers must invite the best two UCI ProTeams from 2023, Lotto-Soudal and Israel-PremierTech, and then wildcard invites can go to other UCI ProTeams and in a few cases, national teams of the host country.
  • WWT means Women’s World Tour. At least eight Women’s World Tour teams start and all races are required to be broadcast live
  • After this comes the UCI ProSeries, men and women. Up to 70% of the starting teams can be WorldTeams for the men. A minimum of four Women’s WorldTeams must start but no more than ten.
  • Then come races grouped by region for men with the UCI Asia Tour, UCI America Tour, UCI Africa Tour and UCI Oceania Tour and UCI Europe Tour and here the *.1 races are included where up to half the starting teams can be WorldTeams
  • For the women the 1.1 one day and 2.1 wstage races can have between of one World Tour team invited and a maximum of five women’s World Tour teams; the rest of the field is women’s continental teams, national squads as well as regional or club teams
  • There are lower level pro-am *.2 races, U23s, criteriums and more but only the pro calendar is included.
  • “ Why are the races listed as all day events? ” – It’s impossible to know today whether a race is slated to finish at, say, 4pm or 5.15pm so there’s no point guessing the precise slot, it’s easier to list them as all day events
  • “ Help, my phone rings at midnight with an alert ” – by default notifications are turned off but check your device settings in case you’ve accidentally switched them on as you probably don’t need a midnight alert for the Gooikse Pijl
  • “ I only want the World Tour races “, “ I don’t want the women’s races ” etc: some readers email in special requests but this would require running multiple calendars. Just keeping one updated is an admin job in itself
  • “ I subscribed to your 2023 calendar, can’t you just add next year’s races to save me from subscribing again? ” This is possible but it means you’d end up with a diary with hundreds of dormant entries from the past. It’s lighter on data and faster to do it year-by-year. Subscribing anew should take you less time to do than it took you to read this bullet point
  • “ The date for such-and-such race is wrong “. The UCI calendar is provisional, dates change plus it’s possible something got bungled when typing everything by hand. If you spot a change or a typo please email so it can be fixed for everyone, it’s really helpful

A guide to the UCI World Tour calendar with major pro road bike races

A guide to the UCI World Tour calendar with major pro road bike races

Late winter — early spring, depending on the region of the world, is the beginning of professional road cycling races season, inspiring millions of amateurs who alternate their own training and bikepacking trips with watching races on TV. Well, like me, for example.

However, given the variety of cycling competitions in different formats, it is easier to get lost in the calendar than to understand it by missing your favorite or most important race of the season. Just try to answer the question yourself: which comes first: Amstel Gold Race or Paris-Roubaix? And what kind of races are these, anyway?

To prevent this from happening to you, read this guide to the UCI World Tour calendar with major pro road bike races. Bookmark it on your browser — you’ll still need it, the season is almost a full year and will last until November. In the end, you will also find an exact competition calendar with dates and other useful information. But first: what is this Tour?

The UCI World Tour is the main event or rather a season in professional road cycling, which takes place every year for 9 months from January to November around the world, but mainly in Europe as the central (and simply the best) region for the sport. If you are skiing or surfing, it’s like the Freeride World Tour and World Surf League.

UCI stands for Union Cycliste Internationale (International Cycling Union), which is the main world cycling organization that holds the Tour, but also almost all other competitions. Check your bike and you will find its emblem on it, which means it is approved for competition. UCI is headquartered in the small town of Aigle in the canton of Vaud in Switzerland.

In 2023 the UCI calendar consists of 35 races of different formats, durations, and importance. The figure is not constant and varies from year to year with the removal of some events and the addition of others. For example, the Classic Brugge-De Panne race moved to the World Tour from the lower division (which I will also mention at the end of the guide) in 2019, and the RideLondon-Surrey Classic in the UK has dropped off the calendar, and so on.

So let’s break it all down, using the most recent version as an example. But keep in mind that there may be changes in the future, so we will also briefly describe other important UCI races.

Three Grand Tours, plus individual stages

The Grand Tours are the three main professional bike races in the entire world of cycling. The list include the Tour de France , the Giro d’Italia , and the Vuelta a España — in order of importance and popularity. If you arrange them chronologically, the last one is in Spain in September and will remain in its place, and the French Tour in July and the Italian Giro in May will switch places. All three races are three weeks long and consist of 21 stages plus a few rest days. The winner is determined by the overall best time. In other words, it’s like 63 separate races! Winning a Grand Tour stage is just as incredibly prestigious as winning the individual one-day races listed below.

  • Tour de France, France
  • Giro d’Italia, Italy
  • Vuelta a España, Spain

Five cycling Monuments (Monument Classics)

The Cycling Monuments are five of the most prestigious one-day races in the world, also called Monument Classics for the reason that each is also a classic cycling race, of which there are few. "Classic" means a great history, popularity, and so on, and as a consequence prestigious to participate and win. The location of each race is also easy to guess from their names, but if you are not a geography expert, here and hereafter I have indicated the countries. To win at least one of these races is like going around the world on foot — in theory, every regular hiker can do it, but in fact, there are probably no more than 100 people in the world who actually did it, because it is very, very long and difficult.

  • Milan-San Remo, Italy
  • Tour of Flanders, Belgium
  • Paris-Roubaix, France
  • Liège-Bastogne-Liège, France
  • Giro di Lombardia, Italy

Eleven classic bike races (Classics)

Classic bike races, or simply Classics for short, are actually the main body of one-day professional bike races, which include, first, as I just noticed, all five of the above-mentioned Monuments, as well as several dozen other races, of which 11 can be found in the 2023 World Tour calendar. So there are quite a few of them. Classic races are divided according to two main criteria: season and road surface. In the latter case, in particular, there are Cobbled Classics — routes consisting partly of cobbles in northern France,  Belgium, and the Netherlands, which are the main countries for the Classics. There is also at least one gravel race — the Strade Bianche (the White Road) in Tuscany, Italy, named so because of the clouds of white dust raised by riders.

Six spring Classics

  • Strade Bianche, Italy
  • Classic Brugge-De Panne, Belgium
  • E3 Saxo Bank Classic (ex-E3 Harelbeke), Belgium
  • Gent-Wevelgem, Belgium
  • Amstel Gold Race, Netherlands
  • La Flèche Wallonne, Belgium

Two summer Classics

  • Clásica de San Sebastián, Spain
  • EuroEyes Cyclassics (Hamburg Cyclassics), Germany

Three autumn Classics

  • Bretagne Classic Ouest, France
  • Grand Prix Cycliste de Québec (Laurentian Classics), Canada
  • Grand Prix Cycliste de Montréal (Laurentian Classics), Canada

Four semi-classic bike races

In addition to the Classics, the UCI has several other one-day races on the calendar, which are of a lower level but are also considered prestigious. Sometimes they are called the Semi-classics or Elite races. For example, it is the first one-day race in the entire UCI season, the Cadel Evans Great Ocean Road Race, named after perhaps the most famous cyclist from this country who won the Tour de France in 2011. It takes place on the famous scenic road along the Pacific Ocean at the very end of January. By the way, you can say "scenic" about the routes of almost all professional bike races, so they can be used by amateurs.

  • Cadel Evans Great Ocean Road Race, Australia
  • Omloop Het Nieuwsblad, Belgium
  • Dwars door Vlaanderen, Belgium
  • Eschborn-Frankfurt (ex-Rund um den Henninger Turm Frankfurt), Germany

Twelve bike stage races

Bike stage races are the last and largest group of races in the UCI calendar, which last from a few days to a week and more. You could say that they are a kind of “shortened by three times Grand Tours” — also in terms of geography because they focus on certain regions of France, Italy, and Spain. These races are also taking over more countries, including Eastern Europe, the Middle East, and even China. These races are also considered training races for the Grand Tours, and their winners can often be used to predict the best riders of the latter. Such races are also easily identified by the same words "Tour", "Giro", "Vuelta" or "Volta", and similar in their names.

  • Tour Down Under, Australia
  • UAE Tour, United Arab Emirates
  • Paris-Nice, France
  • Tirreno-Adriatico, Italy
  • Volta a Catalunya, Spain
  • Vuelta al Pais Vasco (Basque Country), Spain
  • Tour de Romandie, Switzerland
  • Critérium du Dauphiné, France
  • Tour de Suisse, Switzerland
  • Tour de Pologne, Poland
  • Benelux Tour, Belgium, the Netherlands, and Luxembourg
  • Tour of Guangxi, China

uci world tour calendar 2023 ical

As a result, the 2023 UCI World Tour calendar includes the three Grand Tours, five Monument classic one-day bike races, 13 classic one-day races (10 in Europe, two in Canada, and one in Australia), and 13 bike stage races (10 in Europe, one in the United Arab Emirates, one in China, and one in Australia).

Just for the big picture and a better understanding of the World Tour races: in addition to it, UCI also conducts about a hundred other large and prestigious races in two lower divisions: UCI ProSeries and UCI Continental Circuits. These are both one-day and multi-day races united on different principles. In the second case — by five continents, as the name suggests: Africa, America, Asia, Europe, and Oceania. Let's break it down.

Other Classics and Semi-classics. Among the most famous races are, first, many other classic and semi-classic, and elite bike races, which take place in the same countries as World Tour races, in all three parts of the season, but mostly in spring and autumn, as in summer all the attention of cycling fans is focused on the Tour de France. For example, these are Clásica de Almería in Spain; Milano-Torino and Giro del Piemonte in Italy, Nokere Koerse in Belgium; Grand Prix de Fourmies and Paris-Tours in France, Münsterland Giro in Germany; and Japan Cap.

It is also important to note that it is not always possible to draw a clear line between classic and semi-classic bike races. In particular, the latter may contain the word “Classic” in the name. Also, as you may have noticed yourself, some one-day races, including one Monument, may have the word "Tour" in the name.

Season Openers.  Among the one-day races, there are also separate so-called "Season Openers", that is, the first race of the season in each country. These races are important precisely for that reason, although they are not part of the World Tour, except for a few. So in France it is Grand Prix Cycliste La Marseillaise; in Belgium — Omloop Het Nieuwsblad (World Tour) and Kuurne-Brussels-Kuurne; in Italy — Trofeo Laigueglia; in Spain — Trofeo Pollença. But even before the season starts in Australia, where it is the already mentioned Cadel Evans Great Ocean Road Race (World Tour), for which it is, on the contrary, the fall race and one of the last races of the outgoing cycling season.

Other bike stage races.  Second, there are also over three dozen other bike stage races in different countries and geographic regions. For example, one of my favorite home races, the  Tour of the Alps , across the  Euroregion Trentiro-South Tyrol-Tyrol  takes place every year in April and consists of 5 stages. If you’re a longtime cycling fan, you already know it as the ex-Giro del Trentino. As you can see, the race has expanded geographically (as well as changed all the branding — from blue to eco-friendly green — in the spirit of the times), which shows its growing popularity.

There is a very high chance that you can also find a UCI race in your country or region , even in some “exotic” places in terms of cycling that are usually less or not at all associated with the sport by the mass outdoor enthusiast, including cold Scandinavia (Danmark Rundt, Tour of Norway, and others) and the Baltics (Tour of Estonia); the hot and desolate Middle East (Tour of Qatar / Oman / Abu Dabi, and others) and distant Latin America (Vuelta a Colombia, and others).

UCI Road World Championships.  Last, but by no means least, UCI also organizes the Road World Championships, which take place every year in a different country. In the past 2022, it was Wollongong, New South Wales, Australia, in this 2023 it will be Glasgow, Scotland, United Kingdom, between August 3 and 13. The world champion can be recognized in the peloton by the “rainbow” jersey in UCI colors, which he/she will wear throughout the next year.

So here's your exact UCI World Tour calendar for 2023 with dates, formats and other features.  The dates are more or less the same every year , so you can use it for navigation of the best bike races of the 2024, 2025 and all the following seasons.

The 2023 UCI Cycling World Championships, today unveiled the official schedule of the inaugural multi-discipline cycling event, giving cycling fans around the world a first sight of the full scale of the historic festival of cycling coming to Glasgow and across Scotland for 11 days (August 3-13, 2023).

From the Highlands to the Borders and across the central belt, the carefully created schedule boasts a world class line-up of elite cycling competitions, designed to unite Scotland while sharing an inspirational cycling message with the world.

The schedule was designed by the UCI, the Organising Committee of the 2023 UCI Cycling World Championships, host cities and key stakeholders to give an unrivalled live spectator and TV viewing experience, packed full of daily elite finals and nonstop action with at least three disciplines on display each day of the UCI Cycling Worlds.

Thousands of the world’s top cycling athletes will compete across the 13 UCI World Championships, with only a select few earning the title of UCI World Champion and the prestige of the rainbow jersey. With inclusivity at its core, the event will also feature para-cycling and junior competitions.

In a first for a UCI World Championships, the Women Elite road race will bring the curtain down on the competitions, on Sunday, August 13. In addition to championing female cyclists, the decision to stage the Men Elite road race on the opening weekend and the Women Elite road race on the closing day was taken to ensure the best possible alignment with the UCI Road International Calendar, in particular with respect to their respective Tours de France.

The opening weekend of the Championships (5-6 August) will include exhilarating action in Glasgow, Fort William and across Scotland. The Men Elite road race will take place in the stunning scenery of central Scotland while the Sir Chris Hoy Velodrome will host Track finals each day. Fans will be able to witness the fast and exhilarating Mountain Bike Downhill competitions against the awe-inspiring backdrop of the Nevis Range.

At the other end of the country, Glentress Forest in the Tweed Valley will host tough endurance racing with the Mountain Bike Cross-country Marathon.

The full schedule of events across all 11-days, including BMX Racing, BMX Freestyle, Gran Fondo, Indoor Cycling and Trials can be found at the website for the  cyclingworldchamps.com/schedule

This is the first time all 13 UCI World Championships will be combined into one mega-event, making it a cycling event unmatched in size and scale. The anticipated global TV audience will place the Cycling World Championships in the top-10 most watched sporting events in the world, rivalling the Olympics and Commonwealth Games and placing Scotland on the world stage as a destination for elite cycling and cycle tourism.

David Lappartient, President of the Union Cycliste Internationale   said:  “Glasgow and the whole of Scotland are creating sporting history by hosting this multi-discipline cycling event for the first time. The UCI Cycling World Championships were one of my visions when I was first elected President of the UCI in 2017. That vision is now becoming a reality and the inaugural edition is really taking shape. The unveiling of the schedule enables us to visualise what awaits during these 11 days of non-stop cycling action. The entire cycling community can definitely expect great things!”

Paul Bush OBE, Chair of the 2023 UCI Cycling World Championships, said  “Unveiling the full schedule for the 2023 UCI Cycling World Championships is an incredibly exciting milestone in the build-up to the largest cycling event in history. Fans from around the world can start planning their trips to Scotland to celebrate the power of the bike across 13 exhilarating UCI World Championships. The first-of-its-kind  event further strengthens our position as a world leading events destination and reinforces Scotland’s place as the perfect stage for events, and we can’t wait to welcome everyone in 2023.”

Culture Secretary Angus Robertson said:   “We are looking forward to welcoming people to Scotland for a packed 11 days of competition next August. The strength and breadth of competition and viewing experiences really does have something for everyone. What’s more, along with a host of diverse and wholly inclusive events, it feels fitting to close these UCI World Championships with the Women’s Elite road race.”

Councillor Susan Aitken, Leader of Glasgow City Council said:   “Glasgow is proud to be hosting  8 of the 13 UCI World Championships and we are  delighted with the breadth of action taking place in the city throughout the 11 days, showcasing our amazing venues and giving citizens and visitors alike the chance to experience first-hand, elite sporting competitions. I am particularly excited to see the Women’s Elite road race scheduled as the final event, finishing in George Square, the civic heart of Glasgow.

“As a UCI Bike City and European Capital City of Sport for 2023, we look forward to welcoming thousands of visitors to our wonderful city, not only to enjoy the event, but to embrace all that Glasgow has to offer in terms of art, culture and entertainment.”

The 2023 UCI Cycling World Championships will take place across 11 days from 3 to 13 August 2023 in venues and locations in Glasgow and across Scotland. More than a million spectators are anticipated as well as a global television audience of over one billion, making it one of the world’s top 10 watched sporting events next summer.

The event is being delivered in collaboration between the UCI, Scottish Government, Glasgow City Council, UK Sport and British Cycling as principal funders. The partnership aims to create a blueprint for future editions by ensuring the inaugural event is authentic, innovative, and distinctive whilst bringing all cycling disciplines together every four years, one year ahead of the Olympics.
