World Tourism Day 2022: ಇಂದು ವಿಶ್ವ ಪ್ರವಾಸೋದ್ಯಮ ದಿನ, ಹಿನ್ನೆಲೆ, ಮಹತ್ವ, ಥೀಮ್‌ ತಿಳಿದುಕೊಂಡು ಟೂರ್‌ ಹೋಗೋಣ ಬನ್ನಿ

ಇಂದು ವಿಶ್ವ ಪ್ರವಾಸೋದ್ಯಮ ದಿನ (World Tourism Day 2022). ಪ್ರವಾಸೋದ್ಯಮದ ಕುರಿತು ಪುನರ್‌ವಿಮರ್ಶೆ ಅಥವಾ ಮರು ಅವಲೋಕನ (Rethinking tourism) ಈ ವರ್ಷದ ಘೋಷವಾಕ್ಯ. ವಿಶ್ವಸಂಸ್ಥೆಯ ವಿಶ್ವ ವ್ಯಾಪಾರ ಸಂಸ್ಥೆ (UNWTO)ಆರಂಭಿಸಿದ ಈ ದಿನದ ಮಹತ್ವ, ಉದ್ದೇಶ, ಥೀಮ್‌ ವಿವರಣೆ ಸೇರಿದಂತೆ ಹೆಚ್ಚಿನ ವಿವರ ಇಲ್ಲಿ ನೀಡಲಾಗಿದೆ.

ಏನಿದು ವಿಶ್ವ ಪ್ರವಾಸೋದ್ಯಮ ದಿನ?

What is World Tourism Day celebrated? ಎಂಬ ಪ್ರಶ್ನೆ ಹೆಚ್ಚಿನವರಿಗೆ ಇರುತ್ತದೆ. ವಿಶ್ವಸಂಸ್ಥೆಯ ವರ್ಲ್ಡ್‌ ಟೂರಿಸಂ ಆರ್ಗನೈಜೇಷನ್‌(ಯುಎನ್‌ಡಬ್ಲ್ಯುಟಿಒ) 1970 ಸೆಪ್ಟೆಂಬರ್‌ 27ರಂದು ಮೊದಲ ಬಾರಿಗೆ ವಿಶ್ವ ಪ್ರವಾಸೋದ್ಯಮ ದಿನ ಆಚರಿಸಲು ಶಾಸನಗಳನ್ನು ರಚಿಸಿತು. ಯುಎನ್‌ಡಬ್ಲ್ಯುಟಿಒ 1980 ಸೆಪ್ಟೆಂಬರ್‌ 27ರಂದು ವಿಶ್ವ ಪ್ರವಾಸೋದ್ಯಮ ದಿನವನ್ನು ಆಚರಿಸಲು ಗೊತ್ತುವಳಿ ಅಂಗೀಕರಿಸಿತು. ಪ್ರವಾಸೋದ್ಯಮವನ್ನು ಜಾಗತಿಕವಾಗಿ ಪ್ರಚಾರಗೊಳಿಸುವ ಉದ್ದೇಶದಿಂದ ಈ ದಿನವನ್ನು ಆರಂಭಿಸಲಾಗಿದೆ. ಅಂದಿನಿಂದ ಪ್ರತಿ ವರ್ಷ ಆ ದಿನದಂದು ಪ್ರವಾಸೋದ್ಯಮ ದಿನವನ್ನು ಆಚರಿಸಿಕೊಂಡು ಬರಲಾಗುತ್ತಿದೆ. ಅಂದಹಾಗೆ, ಜನವರಿ ಹದಿನೈದು ಭಾರತದ ರಾಷ್ಟ್ರೀಯ ಪ್ರವಾಸೋದ್ಯಮ ದಿನವಾಗಿದೆ.

ಈ ವರ್ಷದ ಥೀಮ್‌ Rethinking Tourism

ಪ್ರತಿ ವರ್ಷ ಒಂದೊಂದು ಥೀಮ್‌ ಇಟ್ಟುಕೊಂಡು ಪ್ರವಾಸೋದ್ಯಮ ದಿನವನ್ನು ಆಚರಿಸಲಾಗುತ್ತದೆ. ಈ ವರ್ಷ Rethinking Tourism ಎಂಬ ಥೀಮ್‌ನಡಿ World Tourism Day 2022 ಆಚರಿಸಲಾಗುತ್ತದೆ. ಬಹುತೇಕ ದೇಶಗಳಿಗೆ ಪ್ರವಾಸೋದ್ಯಮವೇ ಆಧಾರ, ಪ್ರವಾಸೋದ್ಯಮವೇ ಆರ್ಥಿಕತೆ. ಅಭಿವೃದ್ಧಿಗಾಗಿ ಪ್ರವಾಸೋದ್ಯಮದ ಮರು ಅವಲೋಕನವೆಂಬ ಘೋಷವಾಕ್ಯವನ್ನು ಇದೇ ಕಾರಣಕ್ಕೆ ಈ ವರ್ಷ ಇಡಲಾಗಿದೆ. ಇದೇ ಮೊದಲ ಬಾರಿಗೆ ಇಂತಹ ವಿಷಯವೊಂದನ್ನು ವಿಶ್ವ ಸಂಸ್ಥೆಯ ಸಾಮಾನ್ಯ ಸಭೆಯಲ್ಲಿ ಚರ್ಚೆಗೆತ್ತಿಕೊಳ್ಳಲಾಗಿತ್ತು.

ಪ್ರವಾಸೋದ್ಯಮಕ್ಕೆ ಏಕೆ ಮಹತ್ವ? (significance of tourism)

ಈಗ ಶ್ರೀಲಂಕಾದ ಆರ್ಥಿಕತೆ ಮಕಾಡೆ ಮಲಗಿದೆ. ಅಲ್ಲಿನ ಪ್ರಮುಖ ಆದಾಯದ ಮೂಲವಾಗಿದ್ದದ್ದು ಪ್ರವಾಸೋದ್ಯಮ. ಕೊರೊನಾ ಸಮಯದಲ್ಲಿ ಪ್ರವಾಸೋದ್ಯಮ ನೆಲಕಚ್ಚಿತ್ತು. ಪ್ರವಾಸೋದ್ಯಮವು ಜಗತ್ತಿನಲ್ಲೇ ಅತ್ಯಂತ ತ್ವರಿತವಾಗಿ ಬೆಳೆಯುತ್ತಿರುವ ಆರ್ಥಿಕ ವಲಯಗಳಲ್ಲಿ ಒಂದಾಗಿದೆ. ಪ್ರವಾಸೋದ್ಯಮ ಎಂಬುದು ಸ್ಥಳೀಯ, ರಾಷ್ಟ್ರೀಯ ಮತ್ತು ಪ್ರಾದೇಶಿಕ ಮಟ್ಟದಲ್ಲಿ ಆರ್ಥಿಕ ಮತ್ತು ಸಾಮಾಜಿಕ ಅಭಿವೃದ್ಧಿಯನ್ನು ಪ್ರಚರಪಡಿಸಲು ಶಕ್ತಿಶಾಲಿ ಸಾಧನವಾಗಿದೆ. ಹೀಗಾಗಿ ಪ್ರವಾಸೋದ್ಯಮದ ದಿನದ ಆಚರಣೆ ಮಹತ್ವ ಪಡೆದುಕೊಂಡಿದೆ. ಜತೆಗೆ ಕಳೆದ ಆರು ದಶಕಗಳಿಂದ ಪ್ರವಾಸೋದ್ಯಮ ಕ್ಷೇತ್ರವು ಅತ್ಯಂತ ತ್ವರಿತವಾಗಿ ಬೆಳೆಯುತ್ತಿರುವ ಪ್ರಮುಖ ಆರ್ಥಿಕ ವಲಯವಾಗಿ ಪರಿಣಮಿಸಿದೆ. ಈ ಕ್ಷೇತ್ರವು ಜಗತ್ತಿನ ಜಿಡಿಪಿಗೆ ಅಂದಾಜು ಶೇ.10ರಷ್ಟು ಕೊಡುಗೆಯನ್ನು ನೀಡುತ್ತಿದೆ. ಜಾಗತಿಕವಾಗಿ 10 ಜನರಲ್ಲಿ ಒಬ್ಬರಿಗೆ ಉದ್ಯೋಗವನ್ನು ಒದಗಿಸುತ್ತಿದೆ. ಹೀಗಾಗಿ, ಪ್ರವಾಸೋದ್ಯಮ ತುಂಬಾ ಮಹತ್ವದ ಅಂಶವಾಗಿ ಪರಿಣಮಿಸಿದೆ.

ಭಾರತದಲ್ಲಿ ಪ್ರವಾಸೋದ್ಯಮ

ಭಾರತದಲ್ಲಿ ಪ್ರವಾಸೋದ್ಯಮಕ್ಕೆ ಸಾಕಷ್ಟು ಅವಕಾಶಗಳಿವೆ. ಪ್ರತಿರಾಜ್ಯದಲ್ಲಿಯೂ ಪ್ರವಾಸಿ ತಾಣಗಳು ಸಾಕಷ್ಟಿವೆ. ಇವುಗಳನ್ನು ಪ್ರವಾಸಿಸ್ನೇಹಿಯಾಗಿ ಅಭಿವೃದ್ಧಿಪಡಿಸುವ ಮೂಲಕ ಪ್ರವಾಸಿಗರನ್ನು ಸೆಳೆಯಬೇಕಿದೆ. ಕರ್ನಾಟಕದಲ್ಲಿ ಹಲವು ಪ್ರದೇಶಗಳು ಪ್ರವಾಸಿಗರನ್ನು ಸೆಳೆಯಲು ಸೂಕ್ತವಾಗಿದ್ದರೂ ಕೆಲವೇ ಪ್ರದೇಶಗಳಿಗೆ ಮಾತ್ರ ಮಹತ್ವ ನೀಡಲಾಗಿದೆ. ಭಾರತದಲ್ಲಿ ಪ್ರವಾಸೋದ್ಯಮವು ಆರ್ಥಿಕ ಅಭಿವೃದ್ಧಿಗೆ ಪ್ರಮುಖ ಪಾತ್ರ ವಹಿಸುತ್ತಿದೆ. ಇದು ವಿದೇಶಿ ವಿನಿಮಯದ ಎರಡನೇ ಅತಿದೊಡ್ಡ ಗಳಿಕೆಯಾಗಿದೆ. ಪ್ರವಾಸೋದ್ಯಮ ಕ್ಷೇತ್ರು ಕೌಶಲ ಮತ್ತು ಕೌಶಲರಹಿತವುಳ್ಳ ಲಕ್ಷಾಂತರ ಜನರಿಗೆ ಉದ್ಯೋಗವನ್ನು ಒದಗಿಸಿದೆ.

ಸುಮಾರು ಎರಡು ವರ್ಷಗಳಿಂದ ಬಹುತೇಕರು ಮನೆಯಲ್ಲೇ ಇದ್ದಾರೆ. ಕೊವಿಡ್19 ಸಾಂಕ್ರಾಮಿಕ ಹಾಗೂ ಲಾಕ್​ಡೌನ್ ನಿರ್ಬಂಧಗಳ ಕಾರಣದಿಂದ ಹೊರಗೆ ಹೊರಡಲು ಆಗಿಲ್ಲ. ಜನರ ಸ್ವಾತಂತ್ರ್ಯವನ್ನು ಕೊರೊನಾ ಕಸಿದುಕೊಂಡಿದೆ ಎಂಬಷ್ಟರ ಮಟ್ಟಿಗೆ ಜನಜೀವನ ಅಸ್ತವ್ಯಸ್ತವಾಗಿತ್ತು. ಆದರೆ, ಈಗ ಕೊರೊನಾ ಎರಡನೇ ಅಲೆಯ ಬಳಿಕ ಹಾಗೂ ಲಾಕ್​ಡೌನ್ ತೆರೆಯುತ್ತಿರುವಂತೆ ಜನಜೀವನ ಸಹಜ ಸ್ಥಿತಿಯತ್ತ ಮರಳುತ್ತಿದೆ. ಹೀಗಾಗಿ ಜನರು ಮತ್ತೆ ಹೊರಗೆ ಹೊರಡಲು, ಪ್ರಯಾಣ ಮಾಡಲು ಸಜ್ಜಾಗಿದ್ದಾರೆ. ಇತರ ಸ್ಥಳಗಳಿಗೆ ಜನ ತೆರಳುತ್ತಿದ್ದಾರೆ ಮತ್ತು ಪ್ರವಾಸೋದ್ಯಮಕ್ಕೆ ಕೊಡುಗೆ ನೀಡುತ್ತಿದ್ದಾರೆ.

ಪ್ರಯಾಣ ಅಥವಾ ಪ್ರವಾಸವು ಸಂತಸ, ಸಂಭ್ರಮ ಮತ್ತು ಎಲ್ಲಕ್ಕಿಂತ ಹೆಚ್ಚಾಗಿ ಮಾನಸಿಕ ಆರೋಗ್ಯವನ್ನೂ ನೀಡುತ್ತದೆ. ಕೊರೊನಾ ಅವಧಿಯ ಬಳಿಕ ಅಂತಹ ಅವಕಾಶ ಮತ್ತೆ ಸಿಗುತ್ತಿದೆ. ಬಹುತೇಕರು ಪ್ರವಾಸ ಯೋಜನೆ ಹಾಕಿಕೊಂಡಿರಬಹುದು. ಆದರೆ, ಎಲ್ಲದರ ನಡುವೆ ಮಾಸ್ಕ್ ಧರಿಸುವುದು ಹಾಗೂ ಸ್ಯಾನಿಟೈಸರ್ ಬಳಕೆ ಮಾಡುವುದನ್ನು ಮರೆಯಬೇಡಿ. ಜೋಪಾನವಾಗಿ ಪ್ರವಾಸದ ಸಂಭ್ರಮ ಆಚರಿಸಿಕೊಳ್ಳುವುದು ಒಳಿತು. ಕೊರೊನಾದಿಂದ ಆರ್ಥಿಕ ಸಂಕಷ್ಟಕ್ಕೆ ಒಳಗಾಗಿದ್ದ ಪ್ರವಾಸೋದ್ಯಮ ಚೇತರಿಕೆಗೆ ಸಮಯವೂ ಕೂಡಿಬಂದಂತಾಗಿದೆ. ವಿಶ್ವ ಪ್ರವಾಸೋದ್ಯಮ ದಿನ (World Tourism Day) ಯನ್ನು ಪ್ರತೀ ವರ್ಷ ಸೆಪ್ಟೆಂಬರ್ 27 ರಂದು ಆಚರಣೆ ಮಾಡಲಾಗುತ್ತದೆ. ಈ ದಿನದ ವಿಶೇಷ ಲೇಖನ ಇಲ್ಲಿದೆ.

World Tourism Day 2021: ಇತಿಹಾಸ ಯುನೈಟೆಡ್ ನೇಷನ್ಸ್​ನ ವಿಶ್ವ ಪ್ರವಾಸೋದ್ಯಮ ಸಂಸ್ಥೆಯು ಸೆಪ್ಟೆಂಬರ್ 27, 1980 ರಂದು ಸ್ಥಾಪನೆ ಆದದ್ದಾಗಿದೆ. ಪ್ರವಾಸೋದ್ಯಮವು ಹೇಗೆ ಸಾಮಾಜಿಕ, ಸಾಂಸ್ಕೃತಿಕ, ರಾಜಕೀಯ ಮತ್ತು ಆರ್ಥಿಕ ಮೌಲ್ಯಗಳಿಗೆ ವಿಶ್ವಾದ್ಯಂತ ಪರಿಣಾಮ ಬೀರುತ್ತದೆ ಎಂದು ಹೇಳಲು ಮತ್ತು ಅಂತಾರಾಷ್ಟ್ರೀಯ ಸಮುದಾಯದಲ್ಲಿ ಪ್ರವಾಸೋದ್ಯಮದ ಪಾತ್ರವನ್ನು ತಿಳಿಸಲು ಈ ದಿನವನ್ನು ಆಚರಿಸಲಾಗುತ್ತದೆ.

World Tourism Day 2021: ಉದ್ದೇಶ ಮತ್ತು ಆಶಯ ಈ ವರ್ಷದ ವಿಶ್ವ ಪ್ರವಾಸೋದ್ಯಮ ದಿನದ ಥೀಮ್ ಒಟ್ಟಾರೆ ಅಭಿವೃದ್ಧಿಗೆ ಪ್ರವಾಸೋದ್ಯಮ (Tourism for Inclusive Growth) ಎಂಬುದು ಆಗಿದೆ. ಅಂದರೆ, ಪ್ರವಾದೋದ್ಯಮ ವಿಭಾಗ ಅವಲಂಬಿಸಿರುವ ಜನರಿಗೆ ಸಹಾಯ ಮಾಡುವುದಾಗಿದೆ. ಯುನೈಟೆಡ್ ನೇಷನ್ಸ್ ವರ್ಲ್ಡ್ ಟೂರಿಸಂ ಆರ್ಗನೈಸೇಷನ್ (UNWTO) ವಾಣಿಜ್ಯ ವ್ಯವಹಾರ, ಪ್ರವಾಸಿಗಳು, ಯುಎನ್ ಏಜನ್ಸಿಗಳು, ಹಾಗೂ ಇತರರನ್ನು ಪ್ರವಾಸೋದ್ಯಮ ದಿನವನ್ನು ಪರಿಣಾಮಕಾರಿಯಾಗಿ ಆಚರಿಸುವಂತೆ ಕೇಳಿಕೊಂಡಿದೆ.

ಪ್ರವಾಸೋದ್ಯಮ ಎಂದರೆ :

ಪ್ರವಾಸೋದ್ಯಮವನ್ನು ಆಂಗ್ಲ ಭಾಷೆಯಲ್ಲಿ ಪ್ರವಾಸೋದ್ಯಮ ಎಂದು ಕರೆಯಲಾಗುತ್ತದೆ ಮತ್ತು ಪ್ರವಾಸೋದ್ಯಮವನ್ನು ಹಿಂದಿ ಭಾಷೆಯಲ್ಲಿ ಪ್ರವಾಸೋದ್ಯಮ ಎಂದು ಕರೆಯಲಾಗುತ್ತದೆ. ಪ್ರವಾಸೋದ್ಯಮ ಎಂದರೆ ಒಂದು ಸ್ಥಳವನ್ನು ನೋಡಲು ಏಕಾಂಗಿಯಾಗಿ ಹೋಗುವುದು ಅಥವಾ ಸ್ಥಳವನ್ನು ನೋಡಲು ಗುಂಪಿನೊಂದಿಗೆ ಪ್ರಯಾಣಿಸುವುದು.

ಪ್ರವಾಸೋದ್ಯಮವು ಯಾವುದೇ ದೇಶದ ಆರ್ಥಿಕತೆಯಲ್ಲಿ ಪ್ರಮುಖ ಪಾತ್ರ ವಹಿಸುವ ಕ್ಷೇತ್ರವಾಗಿದೆ.ಜನರಿಗೆ ನಮ್ಮ ದೇಶದ ಸಂಸ್ಕೃತಿ ಮತ್ತು ಕಲೆಯ ಬಗ್ಗೆ ಹೆಚ್ಚು ಹೆಚ್ಚು ತಿಳಿದಿದೆ ಮತ್ತು ಹೆಚ್ಚು ಹೆಚ್ಚು ಪ್ರವಾಸಿಗರು ಭಾರತಕ್ಕೆ ಭೇಟಿ ನೀಡುತ್ತಾರೆ, ಆದ್ದರಿಂದ ಭಾರತವು ದೇಶದಲ್ಲಿದೆ ರಾಷ್ಟ್ರೀಯ ಪ್ರವಾಸೋದ್ಯಮ ದಿನ ಪ್ರತಿ ವರ್ಷ ಆಚರಿಸಲಾಗುತ್ತದೆ.

ವಿಷಯ ವಿವರಣೆ :

ವಿಶ್ವ ಪ್ರವಾಸೋದ್ಯಮ ದಿನದ ಸ್ಥಾಪನೆ:UNWTO ಜನರಲ್ ಅಸೆಂಬ್ಲಿಯು 1980 ರಲ್ಲಿ ವಿಶ್ವ ಪ್ರವಾಸೋದ್ಯಮ ದಿನವನ್ನು ಸ್ಥಾಪಿಸಲು ನಿರ್ಧರಿಸಿತು. ಈ ದಿನಾಂಕವನ್ನು ವಿಶ್ವ ಪ್ರವಾಸೋದ್ಯಮದಲ್ಲಿ ಒಂದು ಪ್ರಮುಖ ಮೈಲಿಗಲ್ಲು ಹೊಂದಿಕೆಯಾಗುವಂತೆ ಆಯ್ಕೆ ಮಾಡಲಾಗಿದೆ: ವಾರ್ಷಿಕೋತ್ಸವ 27 ಸೆಪ್ಟೆಂಬರ್ 1970 ರಂದು UNWTO ಅಂಗೀಕಾರ ಮಾಡಿತು

ನಾವೀನ್ಯತೆ ಮತ್ತು ಡಿಜಿಟಲ್ ಪ್ರಗತಿಯನ್ನು ಬಳಸಿಕೊಳ್ಳುವುದು ಪ್ರವಾಸೋದ್ಯಮವನ್ನು ಸಮಗ್ರತೆ, ಸ್ಥಳೀಯ ಸಮುದಾಯ ಸಬಲೀಕರಣ ಮತ್ತು ಸಮರ್ಥ ಸಂಪನ್ಮೂಲ ನಿರ್ವಹಣೆಯನ್ನು ಸುಧಾರಿಸಲು ಅವಕಾಶಗಳನ್ನು ಒದಗಿಸುತ್ತದೆ, ವಿಶ್ವ ಪ್ರವಾಸೋದ್ಯಮ ದಿನದ ಸಮಯವು ವಿಶೇಷವಾಗಿ ಸೂಕ್ತವಾಗಿದೆ, ಇದು ಉತ್ತರ ಗೋಳಾರ್ಧದಲ್ಲಿ ಹೆಚ್ಚಿನ ಋತುವಿನ ಕೊನೆಯಲ್ಲಿ ಮತ್ತು ದಕ್ಷಿಣ ಗೋಳಾರ್ಧದಲ್ಲಿ ಋತುವಿನ ಆರಂಭದಲ್ಲಿ ಬರುತ್ತದೆ.

ಪ್ರತಿ ಕಿಲೋಮೀಟರ್‌ಗೆ ವಿವಿಧ ಧರ್ಮ, ಧರ್ಮ, ಉಪಭಾಷೆ, ಭಾಷೆ ಮತ್ತು ಉಡುಗೆ ತೊಡುಗೆಗಳನ್ನು ನೀವು ಕಾಣುವ ದೇಶ ಭಾರತ. ಉತ್ತರ ಭಾರತದ ರಾಜ್ಯಗಳಿಗೆ ಹೋದರೆ ಅಲ್ಲಿ ಹಿಂದಿ ಭಾಷೆ ಮಾತನಾಡುವ ಜನರು ಹೆಚ್ಚಾಗುತ್ತಾರೆ ಮತ್ತು ನೀವು ದಕ್ಷಿಣ ಭಾರತದ ಕಡೆಗೆ ಹೋದರೆ, ನೀವು ವಿವಿಧ ಭಾಷೆಗಳನ್ನು ಮಾತನಾಡುವ ಜನರ ಸಂಖ್ಯೆಯನ್ನು ಪಡೆಯುತ್ತೀರಿ.

ಈ ರೀತಿಯಾಗಿ, ದೇಶದ ವಿವಿಧ ರಾಜ್ಯಗಳಲ್ಲಿ ಅನೇಕ ಉಪಭಾಷೆಗಳನ್ನು ಮಾತನಾಡುವ ಜನರಿದ್ದಾರೆ ಮತ್ತು ಇದು ಭಾರತಕ್ಕೆ ಭೇಟಿ ನೀಡಲು ವಿದೇಶಿ ಪ್ರವಾಸಿಗರು ಬರಲು ಕಾರಣವಾಗಿದೆ. ಸರ್ಕಾರವು ಪ್ರತಿ ವರ್ಷ ರಾಷ್ಟ್ರೀಯ ಪ್ರವಾಸಿ ದಿನವನ್ನು ಆಚರಿಸುತ್ತದೆ. ಇಂಗ್ಲಿಷ್‌ನಲ್ಲಿ ಇದನ್ನು ರಾಷ್ಟ್ರೀಯ ಪ್ರವಾಸೋದ್ಯಮ ದಿನ ಎಂದು ಕರೆಯಲಾಗುತ್ತದೆ. 

  ಆತಿಥೇಯ ರಾಷ್ಟ್ರವು ಈ ದಿನವನ್ನು ಬಹಳ ಉತ್ಸಾಹದಿಂದ ಆಚರಿಸುತ್ತದೆ. ಇದು ಆಚರಣೆಯಾಗಿದೆ, ಸಾರ್ವಜನಿಕ ರಜಾದಿನವಲ್ಲ. ಕೋಟ್ಯಂತರ ಜನರ ಜೀವನೋಪಾಯವು ಪ್ರವಾಸೋದ್ಯಮವನ್ನು ಅವಲಂಬಿಸಿದೆ. ಪ್ರವಾಸೋದ್ಯಮ ಅವಲಂಬಿತ ರಾಜ್ಯಗಳಾದ ಹಿಮಾಚಲ ಪ್ರದೇಶ, ಉತ್ತರಾಖಂಡ, ಹಿಮಾಚಲ ಪ್ರದೇಶ ಮತ್ತು ಈಶಾನ್ಯ ರಾಜ್ಯಗಳು ಸರಿಯಾದ ಮಾರ್ಗಸೂಚಿಗಳೊಂದಿಗೆ ಪ್ರವಾಸೋದ್ಯಮ ಕ್ಷೇತ್ರವನ್ನು ತೆರೆದಿವೆ.

ಪ್ರತಿಯೊಂದು ದೇಶವೂ ಈ ದಿನವನ್ನು ತನ್ನದೇ ಆದ ರೀತಿಯಲ್ಲಿ ಆಚರಿಸುತ್ತದೆ. ಕೆಲವು ಪ್ರದೇಶಗಳು ಪ್ರಚಾರದ ಈವೆಂಟ್‌ಗಳು ಮತ್ತು ರಿಯಾಯಿತಿಗಳು, ಉಚಿತ ಕೊಡುಗೆಗಳು ಮತ್ತು ಹೆಚ್ಚಿನ ಕೊಡುಗೆಗಳನ್ನು ಆಯೋಜಿಸುತ್ತವೆ.

ಪ್ರವಾಸ ಮಾಡುವುದರಿಂದ ನಮ್ಮ ಜೀವನದ ಮೇಲೆ ಸಾಮಾಜಿಕ, ಸಾಂಸ್ಕೃತಿಕ, ರಾಜಕೀಯ ಮತ್ತು ಅರ್ಥಿಕ ಪರಿಣಾಮವನ್ನು  ಬೀರುತ್ತದೆ. ಪ್ರವಾಸೋದ್ಯಮ ದಿನ ಆಚರಿಸುವ ಮುಖ್ಯ ಉದ್ದೇಶ ಏನೆಂದರೆ ಪ್ರವಾಸೋದ್ಯಮದ ಮಹತ್ವದ ಬಗ್ಗೆ ಜಾಗೃತಿ ಮೂಡಿಸುವುದಾಗಿದೆ .

ಪ್ರವಾಸೋದ್ಯಮ ದಿನದ ಮಹತ್ವ :

• * ಪ್ರಾಮುಖ್ಯತೆ ಕೂಡ ವಿಶೇಷವಾಗಿದೆ ಏಕೆಂದರೆ ಈ ದಿನವನ್ನು ಆಚರಿಸುವ ಮೂಲಕ ಭಾರತವು ತನ್ನ ದೇಶದಲ್ಲಿ ಇರುವ ಪ್ರಮುಖ ಸ್ಥಳಗಳ ಬಗ್ಗೆ ಜಗತ್ತಿಗೆ ತಿಳಿಸುತ್ತದೆ.
• * ರಾಷ್ಟ್ರೀಯ ಪ್ರವಾಸೋದ್ಯಮ ದಿನವು ಹೆಚ್ಚಿನ ಪ್ರಾಮುಖ್ಯತೆಯನ್ನು ಹೊಂದಿದೆ.
• * ಈ ದಿನದ ಮುಖ್ಯ ಉದ್ದೇಶ ಪ್ರವಾಸೋದ್ಯಮದ ಬಗ್ಗೆ ಜಾಗೃತಿ ಮೂಡಿಸುವುದು ಮತ್ತು ಅದು ಪ್ರಪಂಚದಾದ್ಯಂತ ಸಾಮಾಜಿಕ, ಸಾಂಸ್ಕೃತಿಕ, ಆರ್ಥಿಕ ಮತ್ತು ರಾಜಕೀಯ ಮೌಲ್ಯದ ಮೇಲೆ ಹೇಗೆ ಪರಿಣಾಮ ಬೀರುತ್ತದೆ ಎಂಬುದನ್ನು ಜನರಿಗೆ ಕಲಿಸುವುದು.
• * ಸರ್ಕಾರದ ಈ ಪ್ರಯತ್ನದ ಫಲವಾಗಿ ವಿದೇಶಿ ಪ್ರವಾಸಿಗರಲ್ಲದೆ, ಭಾರತೀಯ ಪ್ರವಾಸಿಗರು ಭಾರತದಲ್ಲಿ ಭೇಟಿ ನೀಡಲು ಯೋಗ್ಯವಾದ ಸ್ಥಳಗಳಿಗೆ ಹೆಚ್ಚು ಹೆಚ್ಚು ಭೇಟಿ ನೀಡುತ್ತಾರೆ. ಇದು ಹಣದ ಹರಿವನ್ನು ಸೃಷ್ಟಿಸುತ್ತದೆ.

• ರಾಜಸ್ಥಾನದ ಉದಯಪುರದ ಸಿಟಿ ಪ್ಯಾಲೇಸ್

• ಇಂಡಿಯಾ ಗೇಟ್, ನವದೆಹಲಿ

• ಮೈಸೂರು ಅರಮನೆ, ಮೈಸೂರು

• ಏಕತೆಯ ಪ್ರತಿಮೆ, ಗುಜರಾತ್

ಪ್ರಪಂಚದಾದ್ಯಂತ, ಎಲ್ಲಾ ಅಭಿವೃದ್ಧಿ ಹಂತಗಳಲ್ಲಿನ ದೇಶಗಳಲ್ಲಿ, ಅನೇಕ ಮಿಲಿಯನ್ ಉದ್ಯೋಗಗಳು ಮತ್ತು ವ್ಯವಹಾರಗಳು ಬಲವಾದ ಮತ್ತು ಅಭಿವೃದ್ಧಿ ಹೊಂದುತ್ತಿರುವ ಪ್ರವಾಸೋದ್ಯಮ ವಲಯವನ್ನು ಅವಲಂಬಿಸಿವೆ. ಪ್ರವಾಸೋದ್ಯಮವು ನೈಸರ್ಗಿಕ ಮತ್ತು ಸಾಂಸ್ಕೃತಿಕ ಪರಂಪರೆಯನ್ನು ರಕ್ಷಿಸುವಲ್ಲಿ ಪ್ರೇರಕ ಶಕ್ತಿಯಾಗಿದೆ, ಭವಿಷ್ಯದ ಪೀಳಿಗೆಗೆ ಆನಂದಿಸಲು ಅವುಗಳನ್ನು ಸಂರಕ್ಷಿಸುತ್ತದೆ”.

World Tourism Day celebration on Sept 27

• September 26, 2021

Mangaluru/Udupi, Sept 26, 2021: Dakshina Kannada district administration and the Tourism department will organize the World Tourism Day celebration at Hotel Ocean Pearl on September 27.

Minister for Port and Fisheries S Angara will inaugurate the program at 11 am. Social Welfare and Backward Class Development Minister Kota Srinivas Poojary will be the chief guest. The program will be presided over by Manglauru City South MLA D Vedavyas Kamath.

In Udupi the program will be held at Atal Bihari Vajpayee Hall of Deputy Commissioner’s office at 10.30 am.

Power, Kannada and Culture Minister V Sunil Kumar will inaugurate the program and Udupi MLA Raghupathi Bhat will be preside.

Elected representatives and officials will be present.

World Tourism Day 2022: ವಿಶ್ವ ಪ್ರವಾಸೋದ್ಯಮ ದಿನದ ಇತಿಹಾಸ ಮತ್ತು ಮಹತ್ವವೇನು ?

ಸೆಪ್ಟೆಂಬರ್ 27ರಂದು ವಿಶ್ವ ಪ್ರವಾಸೋದ್ಯಮ ದಿನವನ್ನು ಆಚರಿಸಲಾಗುತ್ತದೆ. ಪ್ರವಾಸ ಒತ್ತಡವನ್ನು ನಿವಾರಿಸುವ ಮೂಲಕ ಹೊಸತವನ್ನು ನೀಡುತ್ತದೆ. ಹೀಗಾಗಿ ಒತ್ತಡದ ಜೀವನಶೈಲಿಯಿಂದ ಹೊರಬರಲು ಅನೇಕರು ಆಗಾಗ ಪ್ರವಾಸಕ್ಕೆ ತೆರಳುತ್ತಾರೆ. ವಿಶ್ವಸಂಸ್ಥೆಯ ವಿಶ್ವ ವ್ಯಾಪಾರ ಸಂಸ್ಥೆ ಆರಂಭಿಸಿದ ಈ ದಿನದ ಮಹತ್ವ, ಉದ್ದೇಶ, ಥೀಮ್‌ ವಿವರಣೆ ಸೇರಿದಂತೆ ಹೆಚ್ಚಿನ ವಿವರ ಇಲ್ಲಿ ನೀಡಲಾಗಿದೆ.

ಪ್ರವಾಸೋದ್ಯಮವು ವಿಶ್ವದ ಪ್ರಮುಖ ಉದ್ಯಮಗಳಲ್ಲಿ ಒಂದಾಗಿದೆ. ಇದು ಪ್ರವಾಸೋದ್ಯಮದಲ್ಲಿ ಮಾತ್ರವಲ್ಲದೆ ಅದನ್ನು ಸೇವೆ ಮಾಡುವ ವ್ಯವಹಾರಗಳಲ್ಲಿಯೂ ಉದ್ಯೋಗಗಳನ್ನು ಸೃಷ್ಟಿಸುತ್ತದೆ. ಜೊತೆಗೆ ದೇಶಗಳ ಆರ್ಥಿಕತೆಯ ಮೇಲೆ ಗಮನಾರ್ಹ ಪರಿಣಾಮ ಬೀರುತ್ತದೆ. ಪ್ರಪಂಚದ ವಿವಿಧ ಭಾಗಗಳಿಗೆ ಭೇಟಿ ನೀಡುವ ಮೂಲಕ ಪ್ರವಾಸಿಗರು ಸಾಂಸ್ಕೃತಿಕ ಪರಂಪರೆ ಮತ್ತು ನೈಸರ್ಗಿಕ ಪರಿಸರ ವ್ಯವಸ್ಥೆಗಳನ್ನು ಸಂರಕ್ಷಿಸಲು ಸಹಾಯ ಮಾಡುತ್ತಾರೆ. ಪ್ರಪಂಚದಾದ್ಯಂತ ಸಂಸ್ಕೃತಿ ಮತ್ತು ಪರಂಪರೆಯನ್ನು ಸಂರಕ್ಷಿಸುವ ಮತ್ತು ಉತ್ತೇಜಿಸುವಲ್ಲಿ ಪ್ರಯಾಣ ಕ್ಷೇತ್ರದ ಪ್ರಾಮುಖ್ಯತೆಯನ್ನು ಎತ್ತಿ ತೋರಿಸುವುದು. ಸೆಪ್ಟೆಂಬರ್ 27, ವಿಶ್ವ ಪ್ರವಾಸೋದ್ಯಮ ದಿನದ (World Tourism Day 2022) ಮುಖ್ಯ ಉದ್ದೇಶವಾಗಿದೆ. ಪ್ರವಾಸೋದ್ಯಮದ ಕುರಿತು ಪುನರ್‌ವಿಮರ್ಶೆ ಅಥವಾ ಮರು ಅವಲೋಕನ (Rethinking tourism) ಈ ವರ್ಷದ ಘೋಷವಾಕ್ಯವಾಗಿದೆ. 

ವಿಶ್ವ ಪ್ರವಾಸೋದ್ಯಮ ದಿನದ ಇತಿಹಾಸ ವಿಶ್ವಸಂಸ್ಥೆಯ ವರ್ಲ್ಡ್‌ ಟೂರಿಸಂ ಆರ್ಗನೈಜೇಷನ್‌(ಯುಎನ್‌ಡಬ್ಲ್ಯುಟಿಒ) 1970 ಸೆಪ್ಟೆಂಬರ್‌ 27ರಂದು ಮೊದಲ ಬಾರಿಗೆ ವಿಶ್ವ ಪ್ರವಾಸೋದ್ಯಮ ದಿನ ಆಚರಿಸಲು ಶಾಸನಗಳನ್ನು ರಚಿಸಿತು. ಯುಎನ್‌ಡಬ್ಲ್ಯುಟಿಒ 1980 ಸೆಪ್ಟೆಂಬರ್‌ 27ರಂದು ವಿಶ್ವ ಪ್ರವಾಸೋದ್ಯಮ ದಿನವನ್ನು ಆಚರಿಸಲು ಅಂಗೀಕರಿಸಿತು. ಪ್ರವಾಸೋದ್ಯಮವನ್ನು ಜಾಗತಿಕವಾಗಿ ಪ್ರಚಾರಗೊಳಿಸುವ ಉದ್ದೇಶದಿಂದ ಈ ದಿನವನ್ನು ಆರಂಭಿಸಲಾಗಿದೆ. ಅಂದಿನಿಂದ ಪ್ರತಿ ವರ್ಷ ಆ ದಿನದಂದು ಪ್ರವಾಸೋದ್ಯಮ ದಿನವನ್ನು ಆಚರಿಸಿಕೊಂಡು ಬರಲಾಗುತ್ತಿದೆ. ಜನವರಿ ಹದಿನೈದು ಭಾರತದ ರಾಷ್ಟ್ರೀಯ ಪ್ರವಾಸೋದ್ಯಮ ದಿನವಾಗಿದೆ.

ವಿಶ್ವ ಪ್ರವಾಸೋದ್ಯಮ ದಿನದ ಮಹತ್ವ  ವಿಶ್ವ ಪ್ರವಾಸೋದ್ಯಮ ದಿನದ ಉದ್ದೇಶ ಸಾಮಾಜಿಕ (Social), ಸಾಂಸ್ಕೃತಿಕ, ರಾಜಕೀಯ ಮತ್ತು ಆರ್ಥಿಕ ಮೌಲ್ಯಗಳ ಮೇಲೆ ಪರಿಣಾಮ ಬೀರುವ ಬಗ್ಗೆ ಜಾಗೃತಿ (Awareness) ಮೂಡಿಸುವುದಾಗಿದೆ. ಕೊರೊನಾ ಕಾರಣ 90% ವಿಶ್ವ ಪರಂಪರೆಯ ತಾಣಗಳನ್ನು ಮುಚ್ಚಲಾಯಿತು. ಇದರಿಂದಾಗಿ ಹಲವಾರು ಜನ ನಿರುದ್ಯೋಗಿಗಳಾದರು. 20201 ರಲ್ಲಿ ಹೆಚ್ಚುವರಿ 32 ಮಿಲಿಯನ್ ಜನರು ತೀವ್ರ ಬಡತನಕ್ಕೆ ತಳ್ಳಲ್ಪಟ್ಟರು. ಗ್ರಾಮೀಣ ಸಮುದಾಯಗಳಲ್ಲಿನ ಯುವಕರು ನಿರುದ್ಯೋಗಿಗಳಾಗಿರುವುದರಿಂದ ಪ್ರವಾಸೋದ್ಯಮ ಕ್ಷೇತ್ರದ ಬಗ್ಗೆ ಜಾಗೃತಿ ಮೂಡಿಸುವುದು ಮುಖ್ಯವಾಗಿದೆ.

ವಿಶ್ವ ಪ್ರವಾಸೋದ್ಯಮ ದಿನ 2022ರ ಥೀಮ್‌ ಪ್ರತಿ ವರ್ಷ ಒಂದೊಂದು ಥೀಮ್‌ ಇಟ್ಟುಕೊಂಡು ಪ್ರವಾಸೋದ್ಯಮ ದಿನವನ್ನು ಆಚರಿಸಲಾಗುತ್ತದೆ. ಈ ವರ್ಷ Rethinking Tourism ಎಂಬ ಥೀಮ್‌ನಡಿ World Tourism Day 2022 ಆಚರಿಸಲಾಗುತ್ತದೆ. ಬಹುತೇಕ ದೇಶಗಳಿಗೆ ಪ್ರವಾಸೋರದ್ಯಮವೇ ಆಧಾರ, ಪ್ರವಾಸೋದ್ಯಮವೇ ಆರ್ಥಿಕತೆ. ಅಭಿವೃದ್ಧಿಗಾಗಿ ಪ್ರವಾಸೋದ್ಯಮದ ಮರು ಅವಲೋಕನವೆಂಬ ಘೋಷವಾಕ್ಯವನ್ನು ಇದೇ ಕಾರಣಕ್ಕೆ ಈ ವರ್ಷ ಇಡಲಾಗಿದೆ. ಇದೇ ಮೊದಲ ಬಾರಿಗೆ ಇಂತಹ ವಿಷಯವೊಂದನ್ನು ವಿಶ್ವ ಸಂಸ್ಥೆಯ ಸಾಮಾನ್ಯ ಸಭೆಯಲ್ಲಿ ಚರ್ಚೆಗೆತ್ತಿಕೊಳ್ಳಲಾಗಿತ್ತು.

ಭಾರತದಲ್ಲಿ ಪ್ರವಾಸೋದ್ಯಮದ ಮಹತ್ವ ಭಾರತದಲ್ಲಿ ಪ್ರವಾಸೋದ್ಯಮಕ್ಕೆ ಹೆಚ್ಚು ಮಹತ್ವ (Importance) ನೀಡಲಾಗುತ್ತಿದೆ. ಇಲ್ಲಿನ ಪ್ರತಿರಾಜ್ಯದಲ್ಲಿಯೂ ಪ್ರವಾಸಿ ತಾಣಗಳು ಸಾಕಷ್ಟಿವೆ. ಇವುಗಳನ್ನು ಪ್ರವಾಸಿಸ್ನೇಹಿಯಾಗಿ ಅಭಿವೃದ್ಧಿಪಡಿಸುವ ಮೂಲಕ ಪ್ರವಾಸಿಗರನ್ನು ಸೆಳೆಯಬೇಕಿದೆ. ಕರ್ನಾಟಕದಲ್ಲಿ ಹಲವು ಪ್ರದೇಶಗಳು ಪ್ರವಾಸಿಗರನ್ನು (Tourists) ಸೆಳೆಯಲು ಸೂಕ್ತವಾಗಿದ್ದರೂ ಕೆಲವೇ ಪ್ರದೇಶಗಳಿಗೆ ಮಾತ್ರ ಇದಕ್ಕೆ ಮಹತ್ವ ನೀಡಲಾಗಿದೆ. ಭಾರತದಲ್ಲಿ ಪ್ರವಾಸೋದ್ಯಮವು ಆರ್ಥಿಕ ಅಭಿವೃದ್ಧಿಗೆ ಪ್ರಮುಖ ಪಾತ್ರ ವಹಿಸುತ್ತಿದೆ. ಇದು ವಿದೇಶಿ ವಿನಿಮಯದ ಎರಡನೇ ಅತಿದೊಡ್ಡ ಗಳಿಕೆಯಾಗಿದೆ. ಪ್ರವಾಸೋದ್ಯಮ ಕ್ಷೇತ್ರು ಕೌಶಲ ಮತ್ತು ಕೌಶಲರಹಿತವುಳ್ಳ ಲಕ್ಷಾಂತರ ಜನರಿಗೆ ಉದ್ಯೋಗವನ್ನು ಒದಗಿಸಿದೆ.

ಈ ವರ್ಷ ವಿಶ್ವ ಪ್ರವಾಸೋದ್ಯಮ ದಿನದ ಆಯೋಜಕ ದೇಶ ಇಂಡೋನೇಷ್ಯಾ.ವಿಶ್ವಸಂಸ್ಥೆಯ ವರ್ಲ್ಡ್‌ ಟೂರಿಸಂ ಆರ್ಗನೈಜೇಷನ್‌ ಇಂದು ಇಂಡೋನೇಷ್ಯದ ಬಾಲಿಯಲ್ಲಿ ಈ ದಿನವನ್ನು ಆಚರಿಸುತ್ತದೆ.

During the celebration, UNWTO launched its first World Tourism Day Report, the first in an annual series of updates and analysis of the Organization’s work guiding the sector forward. The inaugural report is titled “ Rethinking Tourism: From Crisis to Transformation ”, reflecting the timely relevance of the 2022 theme as well as the unprecedented crisis that hit the sector in 2020.

Tourism’s relevance has never been clearer. The time is now to seize this opportunity to rethink how we do tourism.

The overall disruption in the tourism sector brought about by COVID-19, provides an opportunity to redefine and recalibrate the direction and narratives of tourism investments for a more sustainable future for the People, the Planet, and prosperity.  

This  World Tourism Day 2023 , the  UNWTO ,  under the theme “Tourism and green investment” highlights the need for more and better-targeted investments for the  Sustainable Development Goals , the UN roadmap for a better world by 2030. Now is the time for new and innovative solutions, not just traditional investments that promote and underpin economic growth and productivity.

How tourism should invest to contribute to the SDGs

The possibilities of strategic investment for this triple dimension are immense:

For the People by investing in education and skills

Looking ahead, the global tourism workforce will require millions of hospitality graduates annually between now and 2030 and a further 800,000 jobs a year will require specific vocational training. For these reasons, we need to invest in people, as they are the foundation of tourism so that all those who wish to be part of the sector have the same opportunities to access quality tourism training, anywhere in the world.

For the Planet by investing in sustainable infrastructure and accelerating green transformation

Looking into the future, the need to reduce emissions provides an investment opportunity of $24.7 trillion in the green buildings sector of emerging market cities by 2030, in which hotels, resorts, and restaurants account for $1.5 trillion. In addition, tourism faces a lot more investment opportunities related to new solutions and technologies to decarbonize the sector as well as to ensure climate-resilient infrastructure through adaptation solutions.

For Prosperity by investing in innovation, technology, and entrepreneurship

Digitalization and innovation programs are a strategic priority to support particularly young people and women, which are critical to upskill the tourism sector’s workforce. Moreover, the global need to increase investments in programs that support and incentivize entrepreneurship and generate opportunities for innovations is highly need it in the tourism sector.

In order to succeed, let’s make this World Tourism Day a call to action to the international community, governments, multilateral financial institutions, development partners, and private sector investors to unite around a new tourism investment strategy .

What is the Glasgow Declaration?

The Glasgow Declaration is a compromise to accelerate climate action in tourism and to secure strong commitments to support the global goals to halve emissions over the next decade and reach Net Zero emissions as soon as possible before 2050. Over 450 organizations have become signatories of this declaration.

Did you know?

• Tourism employs one in every ten people on Earth.
• Tourism in rural areas can particularly benefit traditionally disadvantaged groups such as women - who make up 54% of the workforce in the tourism sector compared to 39% for the whole economy - youth and Indigenous people.
• In emerging destinations, 50% of young people are unable to work in tourism due to a lack of opportunity, resources, or access to academic training.

After successfully reclaiming her people’s territory in Quebrada de Humahuaca, Northern Argentina, Celestina Ábalos turned to tourism to share and promote her indigenous culture. ILO entrepreneurship training during the COVID-19 pandemic helped her business to grow.

Oman marks World Heritage Day 2024

MUSCAT: Represented by the Ministry of Heritage and Tourism (MoHT), the Sultanate of Oman is taking part in celebration marking World Heritage Day, which falls on 18 April every year, under the slogan “Discover and Experience Diversity”.

This year, the event coincides with the launch of a programme of Sur as the Arab Tourism Capital 2024 — a programme that highlights the City of Sur’s historical monuments, archaeological sites and community culture in the Wilayat of Sur. Those features serve as authentic components of cultural tourism.

Commenting on the event, Eng Ibrahim bin Said bin Khalaf al Kharousi, Under-Secretary of the Ministry of Heritage and Tourism for Heritage, said, “The World Heritage Day is an opportunity to spotlight our ancient cultural heritage that reflects our historical identity. Through this celebration, the Sultanate of Oman enhances global understanding of the diversity of heritage and encourages cultural interaction among various communities. The event also seeks to encourage research and discoveries in the field of cultural heritage and establishing a community partnership system capable of consolidating identity and citizenship”.

Al Kharousi pointed out that the Ministry prepared a programme to celebrate this occasion at the City Walk Centre in Al Sharqiyah South Governorate. The programme includes an exhibition and an educational workshop on the basics of archaeological excavation. Targeting children, the workshop showcases a practical experience on the excavation of heritage sites and the use of decoupage (use of paper decoration) and plastic to highlight ancient Omani symbols on souvenir items.

The Ministry of Heritage and Tourism accords attention to the documentation and restoration of historical and archaeological sites, in addition to highlighting global significance of the sites through projects that contribute to the growth of the local economy within context of Oman Vision 2040.

The Ministry of Heritage and Tourism registered approximately 36,000 archaeological sites. Out of a total of 3,525 historical monuments, the Ministry restored 366 in different governorates of the Sultanate of Oman until 2023, as part of a programme to protect the country’s monuments against extinction and keep them witness to Omani civilisation throughout the ages. — ONA

Barcelona bus route removed from map apps to tackle tourist overcrowding

Residents welcome removal of number 116 route, often used to get to Park Güell

While some places will go to any lengths to attract visitors, residents of La Salut neighbourhood in Barcelona are celebrating a move to wipe themselves off the map.

For years, residents had complained that they could not get home because the number 116 bus was always crammed with tourists visiting Antoni Gaudí’s Park Güell. The park is the city’s second most popular attraction after the Sagrada Familia basilica.

Now they have the bus to themselves after the city council arranged to have the route removed from Google and Apple maps.

“We laughed at the idea at first,” said César Sánchez, a local activist. “But we’re amazed that the measure has been so effective.”

Luz López, 75, told elDiario.es: “Before, the bus was so full even people with walking sticks couldn’t get on.”

Albert Batlle, the deputy mayor of security and coexistence on the city council, said that as well as improving mobility around Park Güell, “we needed to eliminate references to the 116 on the internet”.

Batlle declined to admit or deny that the council had asked for the route to be removed, while a Google spokesperson would only say they would not delete a bus route unless requested to do so by the council.

Sánchez, who has been campaigning for eight years for the council to address the problem, joked: “The next thing we need to do is to get the whole of Park Güell removed from Google Maps.”
