6 Cheap Kmart Products You Need to Pack on Your Travels

Lauren Rouse Avatar

Let’s go over some of Kmart’s best affordable travel products.

The top travel products you can buy at Kmart Australia

Packing Cubes

kmart travel

If you haven’t invested in a set of packing cells, do yourself a favour and pick up a set like this; they are game changers. Having just been on a long haul trip myself I cannot stress how useful it is to be able to divide your clothes into individual bags and know exactly where everything is in your suitcase. Plus, they stack nicely, making packing a breeze.

This 7-piece set of Packing Cubes has been the source of particular excitement online as it features labelled bags of all different shapes and sizes for only $15.

Check it out here.

Travel Tech Organiser

Speaking of keeping things organised, there’s nothing worse than when you check in to a hotel, dying to charge your phone, and having to unpack your entire suitcase to find the right cable. A travel tech organiser case like this one will be the end of those problems. This case is small, soft and compact, and has compartments for a variety of different tech products, whether they be charging bricks, power banks or assorted cables.

Inflatable Front Travel pillow

kmart travel pillow inflatable

When it comes to travel pillows of all shapes and sizes, Kmart’s Inflatable Front Travel Pillow may look a little odd, but is a godsend for anyone stuck in the middle seat.

The pillow is easy to pack and inflate once you’re on your flight and is designed to sit on your knees or the tray table in front of you so you can lean forward and rest your head comfortably.

Reviewers online have said that while the design looks strange, the Front Travel Pillow is, in fact, very comfortable, and it only costs $18.

Universal In-Flight Phone Mount

phone mount

Not every plane is fortunate enough to be outfitted with seat monitors, which means you might want to rely on some downloaded shows or movies on your smartphone. The only thing is, finding a place to comfortably rest your phone during the flight can be challenging. While there are plenty of hacks out there, it’s probably easier to just buy an In-Flight phone mount like this one from Kmart, which clips onto the back of the chair in front – and even attaches to your suitcase if you’re in a long line at the airport! It’ll set you back just $10.

Multi Pocket Hanging Organiser

travel bottles kmart australia

If you’re anything like me, you probably have multiple bags for all your different toiletries, medications and skincare products. Kmart’s Multi Pocket Hanging Organiser is one way you can combine all those bags into one and you won’t take up precious counter space if you’re sharing a bathroom because you can hang the bag from any towel rail or hook. It’s the little things that make a difference, you know?

This one costs $15, and you can find it here.

Digital Travel Scales

travel bottles kmart australia

Airlines can be pretty fierce about their baggage policy these days and if your bag is even 1kg overweight you could be facing an extra charge. If that’s a concern it’s worth considering something like a portable digital luggage scale, that you can loop through the handle of your bag and use at any time to determine how much stuff you’re accumulating – and whether it’s too much for the airline you’re travelling with.

This one is just $9. Check it out here.

While you’re here, why not check out some of the other great products in Kmart’s home range?

Water bottles. They're a travel essential. Bring a reusable one and it will not only help you stick to your holiday budget but it will also help reduce your carbon footprint.

Top-of-the-line trending water bottles with all the bells and whistles (think personalised colours and double-wall insulation) can cost upwards of $100 or more.

However, you can still score a top reusable water bottle for under $20 if you're not as fussed, particularly about brand name water bottles.

Whether you're looking for a glass water bottle or an insulated stainless steel bottle, one with a flip straw or one with a filter, we've rounded up all the bottles we reckon are worth their weight in water (or whatever beverage you prefer).

We've also called out their top features to help you find the right vessel for your trip.

Best insulated bottle

700ml Takeya Insulated Stainless Steel Bottle, The Iconic, $59.99

700ml Takeya Insulated Stainless Steel Bottle. Picture: The Iconic.

  • Capacities available: 530ml, 700ml, 1.2L and 1.9L
  • Does it keep water cold? Yes, up to 24 hours
  • Is it an insulated water bottle? Yes
  • Is it dishwasher safe? Yes

What we like about it: The unique lid system lets you drink as well as pour without having to remove the entire lid for quick, mess-free hydration on the go.

What to consider: The fabulous lid is made of various moving parts and has been said to be "challenging to clean".

This double-walled insulated bottle is crafted from food-grade 18/8 stainless steel, is BPA free and features a silicone bumper to prevent dents and scratches while you take it along for your wild adventure.

The sweat-free design stops condensation in its tracks while two independent silicone rings form a super tight seal - so you can throw it into your backpack filled with cold water and be confident it won't leave a wet mess throughout the day.

Customers praise it for how well it keeps liquids cold (up to 24-hours) and for its durability, with many astounded how well it fared after being dropped.

Best collapsible bottles

Platypus 2-Litre Ultralight Collapsible Water Bottle, Amazon, $54.99

Platypus 2-Litre Ultralight Collapsible Water Bottle. Picture: Amazon.

  • Capacities available:  2L
  • Does it keep water cold? No
  • Is it an insulated water bottle? No
  • Is it dishwasher safe? No

What we like about it: This water bottle is made from premium high quality material that's both odour free and doesn't leave any synthetic taste in the mouth.

What to consider:  As the Platypus Ultralight Water Bottle doesn't have a wide mouth, it can be messy to fill and refill.

This bladder-style bottle is BPA-free, BPS-free and phthalate-free and won't leave a plastic taste in the mouth. When full, it can carry 2 litres of liquid and stands steadily on its stable base. When empty it weighs a mere 37 grams and rolls up small enough to fit into your pocket.

The plastic cap is designed to flip open and close, so unlike a twist off cap you won't find yourself struggling to open it with slippery hands.

The cap is compatible with other threaded Platypus caps and, according to one Amazon review, is also compatible with their Sawyer Squeeze and flip-top caps from standard drink bottles as well.

Best water bottle with a flip up straw

34oz (1 litre) Frank Green Stainless Steel Ceramic Reusable Bottle with Straw Lid, The Iconic, $59.95

34oz (1 litre) Frank Green Stainless Steel Ceramic Reusable Bottle with Straw Lid. Picture: The Iconic.

  • Capacities available:  1L (34oz) and 2L (68oz)
  • Does it keep water cold? Yes, for several hours
  • Is it an insulated water bottle? Yes, it's triple walled and vacuum insulated
  • Dishwasher safe? The bottle is dishwasher safe but the lid requires hand washing.

What we like about it:  A new leak-proof design makes one of Australia's favourite bottle brands that much better.

What to consider: Frank Green bottles sit on the higher end of the price scale and popular colours often sell out.

Frank Green's bottles aren't a cult favourite for nothing.

These stylish BPA free bottles come in a rainbow of colours and feature a flip up straw that clicks down for a slimline design and to prevent leaks.

The internal straw is detachable for easy cleaning while the stainless steel construction and ceramic lining keeps water cold even when out in the sun all day long.

We love how the base is unbreakable, music to the fingers of hikers with butter fingers as they're scrambling down from the mountain, and there's a 12 month warranty for you to put it through the paces.

Best stainless steel water bottle

Ocean Bottle Stainless Steel Water Bottle 500ml, Helly Hansen, $60

Ocean Bottle Eco-Friendly Stainless Steel Water Bottle.

  • Capacities available:  500ml, 1L
  • Does it keep water cold? Yes, up to 18 hours

What we like about it:  This is one of the most considered and sustainable water bottles on our list. It's BPA free, made from recycled materials, and all purchases remove up to 1000 single use plastics, including plastic bottles, from our waterways.

What to consider:  This water bottle only comes in four colours.

Dubbed "the world's most impactful reusable bottle", the Ocean Bottle is made from recycled stainless steel and upcycled plastic. As a bonus, each purchase funds the collection of 11.4kgs of ocean plastic from around the world.

The winner of a 2020 Red Dot design award, this insulated stainless steel bottle boasts keeps water cold for up to 18 hours and hot liquids warm and toasty for up to nine hours. It's leak proof design is only bettered by its sweat free properties.

We're also loving the extra wide mouth for quick refills, the dual opening lid for mess free drinking, and how the entire unit, including the lid, is dishwasher safe.

Best glass water bottle

Porter Glass Bottle Terrazzo, The Iconic, $59.95

Porter Glass Bottle Terrazzo. Picture: The Iconic.

  • Capacities available:  591ml

What we like about it: There's a silicone sleeve to protect you when pouring hot liquids into these glass water bottles.

What to consider: At only 7cm in diameter, it lacks a wide mouth and will require more care when refilling. This may also make adding ice to your drink cumbersome.

Glass water bottles come with many benefits – many swear that water tastes better when drunk from glass. They're also more sustainable than a plastic water bottle, and they're dishwasher safe.

Plus, they look hella classy.

Our favourite glass bottle is this pretty-in-pink Porter, which promises to bring a "touch of luxury to everyday hydration".

As it's not an insulated bottle, the Porter is very much geared at city-based travels as it won't keep you bevvies super cold or piping hot all day.

Best water bottle with a wide mouth

Hydro Flask Wide Mouth Bottle with Flex Straw, Amazon, from $41.75

Hydro Flask Wide Mouth with Flex Straw Lid. Picture: Amazon

  • Capacities available:  710ml, 946ml, 1180ml

What we like about it:  Hydro Flask went viral after it survived a car fire with its water still cold. It's a tank of a water bottle and one you'll want to bring with you in the harshest of conditions.

What to consider:  Quality comes at a price and smaller models (710ml) start from $41 while larger models cost upwards of $74.

With a cult following elevating it from a simple water receptacle to the ultimate fashion accessory, Hydro Flask is a top-rated water bottle on Amazon , with thousands of five-star ratings.

And it's not just trend-setting teens who rate it – hikers are also fans.

Hydro Flask ranks as the top pick on hiking gear review site Best Hiking , while testing site GearLab says it "ticks all the boxes for one of our favourite bottles ever".

This Hydro Flask wide mouth insulated bottle comes in three sizes allowing you to stay hydrated on long day hikes. This stainless steel bottle has a strong leak proof twist off cap, is dishwasher safe and is BPA free. On top of being able to keep your beverages ice cold for 24 hours, it can keep warm drinks hot for up to 12 hours.

"It's design is truly ingenious," said one Amazon reviewer. "Its wide mouth allows for easy access, making it effortless to fill with ice cubes or pour in your favorite beverages," they said. "This hydoflask keeps whatever fluid the temperature it needs to be and doesn't leak," said another.

Best filter water bottle

Grayl Geopress Purifier Bottle, Mountain Designs, $179.99

Grayl Geopress Purifier Bottle. Picture: Mountain Designs

  • Capacities available:  710ml

What we like about it:  It has a long 10 year warranty and is easy to clean.

What to consider:  The Grayl has a high price tag and isn't insulated.

Designed to filter out everything from pathogens and pesticides to heavy metals, microplastics and harmful chemicals, Grayl's Geopress came out winning in a CNet test with crystal clear waters at the push of a button.

The filtration system is super quick, taking just eight seconds to get you from dangerous to drinkable, and uses a long life cartridge rated for 350 cycles (or approximately three years).

Super lightweight, this BPA free plastic bottle is made from polypropylene material and food grade silicone and because you know you're taking it far and wide, it's built tough enough to survive three metre drops when full.

Best sports bottle

CamelBak Podium Chill Water Bottle, Amazon, from $22.99

CamelBak Podium Chill Water Bottle. Picture: Amazon.

  • Capacities available:  700ml
  • Does it keep water cold? Yes, for longer due to the double walled construction
  • Is it dishwasher safe? No, the bottle should be hand washed. The cap can go into the dishwasher.

What we like about it:  It's a lightweight bottle that's insulated - something of a unicorn amongst water bottles.

What to consider:  Being a plastic bottle, one Amazon customer said it left an "unpleasant taste" in the mouth.

Serious cyclists can go the extra mile with CamelBak's Podium range of water bottles. Made from a heat resistant polypropylene that won't leach or deform when exposed to hot weather, these reusable plastic water bottles are specifically optimised to fit into a variety of bicycle bottle cages. They also and boast an easy-squeeze design for hydration when you need it.

A double-walled construction keeps liquids cold for longer and a self-sealing jet valve prevents unwanted spills or leaks when on the go.

While the Podium has a straw top, there's no built in straw but instead the entire water bottle can be pulled apart for a complete and thorough clean.

Best car cup holder-friendly water bottle

Yeti Rambler 30oz Travel Mug with Stronghold Lid, BCF, $44.95

Yeti Rambler 30oz Travel Mug with Stronghold Lid. Picture: BCF.

  • Capacities available: 591ml
  • Does it keep water cold? Yes, for hours
  • Is it an insulated water bottle? Yes, it has double wall vacuum insulation

What we like about it:  It comes with a long 5 year warranty.

What to consider:  The leak proof StrongHold lid is specifically built for the Rambler Travel Mug and isn't compatible with any other YETI or Rambler mug.

A good chunk of water bottles are too wide at the base to fit into a standard car cup-holder. For the next best thing, the YETI Rambler Travel Cup has a generous capacity of 591ml and tapers at the base to fit snugly into most cup holders.

Crafted from 18/8 stainless steel, this insulated bottle is dent and chip resistant. The leak proof StrongHold lid takes all the worry out of potential spills while driving around while the double wall vacuum insulation keeps your hot drink warm and cold beverage cool, just the way it should be.

"Keeps my coffee hot, no spills, no drips, fits great in my cup holder," says one BCF customer.

Best anti-mould water bottle

LARQ Bottle PureVis, Biome, $139

LARQ Bottle PureVis. Picture: LARQ.

  • Capacities available:  502ml, 740ml
  • Does it keep water cold? Yes, for up to 24 hours
  • Is it dishwasher safe? Yes, the bottle is dishwasher safe, the cap must be hand washed.

What we like about it: It's self cleaning, so you can kiss your bottle brushes away.

What to consider: At over $100, this is one of the most expensive water bottles on our list. Additionally, it can only be purchased at specialty stores in Australia.

Mould is a common issue in water bottles - particularly plastic water bottles. The best way to combat its growth is by cleaning it frequently with soapy water and vinegar with a good bottle brush.

Another option is to invest in a stainless steel bottle that offers a less ideal breeding ground for mould.

One such bottle is the LARQ Bottle PureVis. It's the world's first self-cleaning water purification system and removes up to 99 per cent of bio-contaminants such as E. coli at the touch of a button using a UV-C LED light.

The PureVis has received over 3,000 positive Google Reviews with one customer saying, "it keeps the water tasting fresher for longer."

For active travellers, it's recommended to purchase the protective neoprene travel sleeve which comes with a leather strap for portability.

Best kids' water bottle

Thermos FUNtainer Vacuum Insulated Drink Bottle 355ml, Amazon, from $16.99

Thermos FUNtainer Vacuum Insulated Drink Bottle 355ml. Picture: Amazon.

  • Capacities available: 355ml, 450ml
  • Does it keep water cold? Yes, for up to 12 hours
  • Is it dishwasher safe? Yes, but the the decoration will peel and fade.

What we like about it: The push button mechanism for the flip cap makes it super easy for little ones to use on their own.

What to consider: The designs don't fare well in the dishwasher and if your little one is precious about them you'll need to do some hand washing.

Thermos has been in the business of top-quality bottles and containers for over 100 years and is still going strong to this day. Its kid-friendly products include the FUNtainer.

Like other insulated bottles, it's capable of keeping your drinks cold for 12 hours and hot for 24 hours. It comes in a myriad of designs, including dinosaurs, cars, princesses and butteries, to suit your child's personality.

How we chose the best water bottles on this list

Our team of experienced writers, travel writers and water bottle lovers spent hours researching the best reusable water bottles to include on this list.

We found out what factors make the best water bottles by reviewing test results and analysing thousands of customer reviews across popular brands like Frank Green and Hydro Flask to lesser known brands like Takeya and Porter.

How to choose a good reusable water bottle

If you, like many of us, are doing your bit to reduce the number of single use plastic water bottles that wind up in landfill, you'll want to get your reusable water right from the get go. Before you shop, ask yourself where you'll be taking your bottle, what you'll be drinking from your water bottle the most (hot water, cold water, smoothies, tea) and what features matter to you the most. Once you know what you need, then you can start looking into size, material, insulation and lids.

Water bottles can start from as small as 500ml and reach capacities of up to 2L. Smaller bottles generally work better on urban adventures when you want to travel light and you know you'll have access to fresh, clean drinking water regularly. Larger water bottles are better suited for day trips and hikes.

If you're constantly on the road, shape also plays a huge part as larger bottles generally won't fit in standard cup holders. Instead, look for one like the Stanley or YETI that tapers off at the bottom to fit.

Most bottles are made from either stainless steel, glass or a food grade plastic. Stainless steel bottles are some of the most popular as they're viewed as durable, easy to clean are BPA free and don't rust.

Glass is a less popular option for water bottles due to its fragile nature. Similar to stainless steel, it's easy to clean and is BPA free. Some people claim that water tastes better when drunk from glass too as it's odourless.

Reusable plastic bottles are a lightweight and cheaper alternative to stainless steel and glass bottles. Made from food grade plastic, they can be insulated and due to their flexible nature, can fit into tight water bottle pockets.

Insulated bottles or vacuum insulated water bottles have two layers of material (often steel) that are separated by air. This slows down the temperature transfer from the outside in to keep hot liquids hot for longer or cold liquids cooler for longer.

The majority of insulated bottles available are double wall vacuum bottles and can keep water ice cold for up to 24 hours. For longer journeys where cold water matters, you can step this up a notch by opting for a triple walled vacuum bottle.

There's a wide variety of lid features that can make all the difference. Some lids open straight into a wide mouth where you can easily pop sizable ice cubes in or chugg sizable loads of water in a heartbeat. Others have a dual opening, one with a wide mouth for refilling, the other with a smaller opening for mess-free drinking. Other lids still include straws that can be detached for cleaning.

Is a glass bottles or a stainless steel bottle better?

Both glass and stainless steel bottles have their merits. Glass is easy to clean, is chemical free and won't pick up any tastes or odours. They can be more elegant looking than stainless steel but are also more fragile.

Stainless steel bottles are likewise easy to clean and natural though can have a metallic taste. They're more durable than glass and are generally more lightweight.

What size water bottle is best for travel?

The best sized water bottle for you will provide you with enough hydration to last you the day.

During hikes larger water bottles may be preferable as you won't be able to fill up during your trek.

Smaller water bottles can work on city trips where you're less active and can top up throughout your day.

Your average sized water bottle has a capacity of around 500ml-700ml.

How do you carry a water bottle while travelling?

When shopping for a water bottle, consider one with a handle or a travel carrier such as a neoprene or silicone sleeve to keep your hands free.

If you're bringing a backpack with side pockets, make sure that your specific water bottle fits in the pockets comfortably.

Can I bring a 1 litre bottle on a plane?

Yes. On domestic flights within Australia you can bring a 1 litre water bottle of water on a plane as there are no liquid restrictions .

On international flights, or flights departing from an international terminal, there is a liquids restriction of 100ml .

While this means you can't bring your filled water bottle through the terminal, you can bring it empty and fill it once you've cleared security.

Make your travel dollar stretch further (even if by only a few dollars) with these coupons from brands like Expedia , Hotels.com and Adrenaline .

PACKING bathroom products, such as shampoo and conditioner, always takes up too much valuable bag space when travelling.

Sure, you can buy miniature travel products, but with one 100ml bottle costing around $4 it can add up quickly if you have a family, especially if you have young children who are likely to lose the tiny bottles.

This is why a mum’s savvy $3 Kmart travel hack has gone viral with sympathetic parents across the country, and has been hailed as a genius idea for travelling or school activities with kids.

Perth mother, Nat Stein, posted her simple tip on Facebook where it has received 1000 likes and a swarm of comments about how “brilliant” it is for travelling.

“Kmart sell these travel bottles in a 2 pack for $3. Filled them with shampoo, conditioner and shower gel and attached to a lanyard,” Ms Stein wrote.

So simple.

“Perfect for my girls when we go camping to take to the showers. Also would be good for swimming lessons. I have ordered some stickers.”

Parents are absolutely loving it.

“I’m so doing this!! Perfect for camping and sunscreen in school bags during summer,” wrote one commenter.

“This will be brilliant for my sons first school camp next year!” wrote another.

Other mothers shared their own version of the hack.

“Great idea! I have these in my nappy bag. One is suncream and one is hand sanitiser. Much better than taking bigger bottles and cheaper than having to buy small ones all the time.”

Some even confessed to rushing out to copy the hack straight away.

“I just finished filling mine,” a mum shared on Ms Stein’s post with her own picture.

“I just finished filling mine,” a mother admitted to rushing out to try Ms Stein’s handy hack herself.

You can find the bottles in the make-up section of Kmart.

The Best Filtered Water Bottles For Healthier Water On The Go

Best Filtered Water Bottles

ⓘ We are reader-supported and may earn a small commission at no additional cost to you if a purchase is made through one of our links.

As the old saying goes, “prevention is better than cure.” If there’s anything we’ve learned in the past year, it’s that we have to be very careful and cautious with our health. That means being extra vigilant in whatever we intake, especially with water. Even if it’s from bottled water, there are still brands that contain free radicals that are above the regulated health limits.

Aside from saving yourself, you are also saving the environment. By opting for the best-filtered water bottles made available, you are one less person contributing to the world’s pollution level. That should be rewarding enough.

TL;DR: The #1 Filtered Water Bottle for Most People 👇

The Best Filtered Water Bottles Compared

pH Active Insulated Water Bottle - Filtered Alkaline Water Bottle - Stainless Steel Water Bottle - Includes Alkaline Water Filter, Plus Bonus Sports Gym Lid - Double Walled Metal - New 2019 Model

#1. pH ACTIVE Insulated Water Bottle

travel bottles kmart australia

Why we like it:

  • Insulated stainless steel body
  • Large filter capacity
  • Excellent filtering ability
  • Excellent insulation

What customers say:

“ Love this bottle. Exactly what I was looking for. Well designed and easy to carry along. Looks a touch shorter in the pictures than it is. ” – Richard

The pH ACTIVE Insulated Water Bottle  aims to deliver high pH alkaline water anywhere and anytime. It has a multi-stage “pH on-the-go” Alkaline water filter which increases the water’s pH, adding healthy minerals like zinc, magnesium, selenium, and iron. The filter also eliminates the presence of heavy metals in the water like mercury, copper, and lead, and reduces the amount of chlorine, fluoride, and chloramine. This greatly improves the smell and taste of the water.

It’s definitely one of the best filtered water bottles as each filter will last you up to 98 liters or around 26 gallons of water before you need to replace it. On average, it will take about 30 days provided that you drink around 2 liters of water a day.

The water bottle itself sports a sleek and stylish metal design that comes with two lids. The main lid flaunts a bamboo design with a steel handle while the bonus lid is a one-hand operated sports lid with an optional straw and wide, fixed handle. This is a perfect use for going to the gym or other active events.

It has a double-walled vacuum insulation technology to keep your hot drink up for about 24 hours and your cold drinks for 48 hours.

  • Replaceable filter
  • Double-walled insulation
  • Comes with two lids to accommodate different uses
  • Special filter replacement might be hard to look for

#2. Brita Premium Filtering Water Bottle

“This water bottle is great, as it allows you to cover the lid when you’re not drinking out of the bottle. (The latch is durable and requires a reasonable amount of force to unlock.)” – Kimberly Oshiro

If you are on the lookout for the best filtered water bottles that’ll keep your water cold for a long period, you might want to consider the Brita Premium Filtering Water Bottle . During summer, you’ll always need to keep a bottle of water near and you’d prefer it to be cold to beat the heat. However, as already learned, tap water is not 100% safe and consuming water from plastic water bottles is wasteful and costly.

The Brita Premium water bottle provides a healthier solution for that dilemma. With its double-walled vacuum insulation, it can keep your cold drink up for about 24 hours. It’s bigger compared to other bottles of its kind as it can carry about 32oz of water inside. The filter is placed inside the straw. It contains a proprietary blend of activated carbon and a binder. It reduces the chlorine taste, odor, and particulates found, especially in tap water.

The filter can last you up to 2 months and you can order the Brita filters separately.

  • Simple yet effective filtration for tap water
  • Double-walled vacuum insulation
  • Bigger compared to regular-sized double-walled vacuum water bottles
  • Simple filtration not recommended for dirtier water

#3. LifeStraw Go Water Filter Bottle with 2-Stage Integrated Filter Straw

travel bottles kmart australia

  • 2-stage filtration
  • Removes 99.9999% of bacteria
  • Award-winning filtration

“A solidly made water bottle and filter/purifier in one. Got this so I don’t have to keep buying bottled water at airports or when travelling (just take it empty through security and fill it from a tap at the airport and while at your destination).” – Geoff

The LifeStraw Go Water Filter Bottle  takes pride in its award-winning LifeStraw hollow fiber membrane water filter. It comes with a reusable BPA-free water bottle that’s great for traveling, especially when going backpacking or camping. This is because it can remove bacteria and protozoa from lakes and streams which will make the water lean and safe to drink.

Its filtering system has a 2-stage activated carbon filter which reduces the odor, chlorine and eliminates any aftertaste in the water. The microfiltration membrane can filter up to 4,000 L while the activated carbon filters can last you up to 100 L before they need replacing.

This makes the list of one of the best filtered water bottles because, for one, it comes in different sizes—available in 22oz and 1L, and it has been independently tested against international safe water testing standards.

  • The bottle comes with an integrated drinking straw
  • Comes with a carabiner for easy carrying
  • Filter lasts for a long time before needs replacement
  • Decreased in water flow due to due to the filtration system

#4. SawyerSelect S3 Water Purifier

Best filtered water bottle with advanced filtration process.

travel bottles kmart australia

  • Can filter 0.1 micon small impurities
  • Quality, durable build
  • Can be used to dispense water easily to other containers
  • Perfect for camping, hiking and travel

“Half the weight of my other travel bottle and can fill up water bottle or tin for cooking. Also unlike life straw don’t have to get down on cold and wet ground.” – James Wilson

The Select S3 Water Purifier is quite innovative. It offers two variants, the S1, and the S3. The latter variant is more expensive but it can remove two more contaminant types than the former—heavy metals and viruses. But the S3 only has 400 uses while the S1 has 1,600.

Both can remove bacteria, protozoa, chemicals, and pesticides and improve the taste and odor of the water. When looking for an everyday use filtered water bottle, you may want to opt for the S1 Purifier. The S3 Purifier is best for packing or preparedness for any area around the world, even including those near mining operations.

This innovation has an impressive advanced filtration system. The foam absorption technology used is combined with a 0.1 micron absolute Micro Squeeze filter which effectively strains even the minute particulates, pathogens, and microplastics.

  • Innovative filtering process
  • Portable and easy use
  • Can be used for international travels
  • Rigorous cleaning process

#5. Astrea ONE Filtering Water Bottle

travel bottles kmart australia

  • Filters lead, chlorine, pesticides, hormones, pharmaceuticals + more
  • Filters last 30 gallons
  • Easy to use flip-up lid

“The easy fill is nifty, as is the straw. It’s awesome to just be able to refill from literally anywhere and have great tasting clean water. This thing is well sealed so you can throw it in your lunch box and not worry about it leaking everywhere. Retains the cold fairly well too. ” – William Hatch

The Astrea ONE Filtering Water Bottle looks very fancy. At first glance, you’d think that it is just an ordinary double-walled vacuum container. Well, it is double-walled, but it offers quite more, like clean and safe water. It takes pride in being “the only water bottle certified to reduce over 20 contaminants”. It eliminates common tap water contaminants such as lead, chlorine, pesticides, hormones, and pharmaceuticals.

The outside material used for this premium water bottle is an 18/8 kitchen-grade stainless steel, and the plastic is BPA-free. The filtration system is built-in and each filter will last you up to 3 months. Nevertheless, looking for filter replacement won’t be such a hassle as the brand offers them on their website.

  • Filtration system is NSF42 and NSF53 Certified
  • Premium design
  • The filter is only good for 3 months

#6. GRAYL Ultralight Water Purifier Bottle

travel bottles kmart australia

  • Compact and lightweight
  • Good filter

” Used this for my business trips to India to purify the hotel tap water just in case, works very well however after about 50 fills pressing the water through the filter can become quite hard, just keep a firm presssure and let it take the time to push the water though the filter.” – Ducky

The GRAYL Ultralight Water Purifier Bottle is most definitely one of the best filtered water bottles in the market right now. It aims to provide purified water anywhere you are. This is the best gear to have when going camping, trekking, or biking. It ensures that you’ll be drinking safe water even if you got it from a lake or from an unknown fountain.

It takes pride in its motto which is as simple as “fill, press, drink.” Its filter design was independently tested by a certified laboratory to meet or exceed the NSF/ANSI protocol 42 and 34 for pathogen and chemical removal. It also met with the US Environmental Protection Agency’s Guide Standard and Protocol for testing microbiological water purifiers. This means that its award-winning filter system is fully certified by good authority, marking it safe to use.

The filter system has three active technologies working hand-in-hand inside which are generally the ion exchange, the ultra-powdered activated carbon, and of course, the two-layered non-woven ceramic fiber as the durable base. The purifier system removes waterborne pathogens, including Salmonella and E.Coli, and it filters out particulates, like microplastic and heavy metals.

As to how it works, you take the outer cartridge and fill it up with water then you take the inner cartridge where the filter is attached and you firmly but gently press the latter down until the filtered water slowly fills the most inner part of the 24 oz (710 ml) water bottle.

  • The filter has a long lifespan
  • Easy to use and carry
  • Independently tested by labs
  • The cartridge pressing may be difficult for some

Filtered Water Bottles Buying Guide

Testing Different Filtered Water Bottles in Person

It’s not easy to pick out the best filtered water bottle for you. There are, indeed, a lot of products to choose from. You’ll never know if what you choose will be enough or not. Nevertheless, here’s a comprehensive buyer’s guide to help you out in choosing the right one to serve your needs best:

Water filtration system/process

The main reason for getting a filtered water bottle is for the filtration system that’ll keep your water healthy despite where it came from. The best filtered water bottles should have a rigorous filtration system in place. The more it can filter out the better.

Brands will have their own twist and mechanism for their filtration process. Some will even have a patented one. What is important is that it has been officially tested and certified by the necessary departments and offices to ensure that the filtration system/process is effective and safe to use.

Although, the more rigorous the filtration process is, the product will highly likely be more expensive. But nothing is more expensive than buying tens to thousands of plastic water bottles in a month or so, and the price you pay for contributing to the Earth’s pollution level.

When looking into the water bottles’ filtration device, see to it that it’ll be able to deal with and eliminate as many contaminations there are present in water.

Filter lifespan

Another factor to look into in a filter is its lifespan. Some are only effective after filtering a certain good amount of liters. Brands will give you an average estimation based on the ideal water consumption per day, which can be displayed in the number of months. The longer the filter lifespan, the longer you’ll have to replace it.

However, there are instances wherein the filter had already accumulated quite a heavy load of dirt and particulates in only a span of days or weeks—less than what the brand had estimated. So you have to be prepared when that happens and check for the availability of the filter replacement and the budget you want to set.

The main purpose of purchasing the best filtered water bottles in the market is to securely drink clean water constantly. Therefore—obviously—the bottle is for everyday use. But that is not always the case as many who purchase filtered water bottles are those who travel constantly either internationally, domestically, or recreationally like on camping trips and the like.

Your purpose for purchasing a filtered water bottle will decide what kind of filtration system you’ll opt for. You may only be using this special kind of water bottle to filter tap water for everyday use. For travels, you’d want to securely drink water even from places you’re not sure of. In the case of camping, it is to ensure you’ll be drinking safely from lakes or other forms of water in the wilderness.

Of course, there are water bottles with rigorous filtering processes for travels and camping to ensure that you are safe from the particulates, heavy metals, and the likes found in uncultivated water. The filter process for tap water is simpler than the former and so they are most likely cheaper.

Therefore, you will need to identify the purpose of your purchase to be able to narrow down the kind of filtering process and even the filter lifespan you will need in a filtered water bottle.

Material Quality

For any kind of reusable water bottle, especially with plastic, you need to ensure that the material used is BPA-free. This means that the industrial chemical, Bisphenol A, is not used to make the product. This chemical was widely found in Polycarbonate plastics which are often used for containers. Researchers found that BPA would seep into food or beverages from containers made with this chemical.

Brands will most often mix BPA-free plastic with stainless steel or other similar material. Make sure the added material used is high-quality to assure that you’ll be able to use the water bottle for a long time.

Size and Portability

Many will be looking for the best filtered water bottles that can be easily carried and/or stored in the bag; most especially when the purpose for the purchase is for traveling. Some products are flexible when it comes to being stored while others will come in a smaller size for a lighter carry load.

When choosing depending on the size and portability, you may also need to consider the availability of water. When going on a hiking trip, the water supply might be scarce; so you will need to scoop up as much water as you can when you find a source.

Cleaning maintenance

Like any filtering device, cleaning and maintaining the filtration system of a water bottle won’t be easy. Those that are built for a longer lifespan will offer a cleaning maintenance feature but, most often, they can be rigorous. Nonetheless, it beats paying for filter replacements. However, incorrect cleaning may lead your filtration to be ineffective or even ruined.

With that, you may have to weigh in as to whether or not you’ll be able to effectively clean your filtered water bottle from time to time or will you be best off with filter replacements?

Final Thoughts

We hoped that the article gave you a clearer perspective on purchasing the best filtered water bottles. Opting for a more environmentally-friendly lifestyle will not only immensely benefit you but the Earth itself too.

It is also the safer way to go in drinking water. If there’s anything we’ve learned from 2020 is that we have to be very careful with what we intake. We have to ensure the safety of our health, ergo our body, as we will soon pay the price if we won’t. It might not be immediate but it’ll definitely be painful to experience.

It might seem like a hassle now but the advantages clearly outweigh the negative impression we may have with filtered water bottles. Make sure to choose the best filtered water bottles for you to feel that you got your money’s worth and to ensure your safety when drinking water.
