Your engine's cooling system includes a thermostat that controls the flow of coolant from your engine to your radiator. The thermostat is designed to open and close at specific temperatures to circulate coolant throughout the system and the radiator to regulate its temperature and prevent overheating. With time, your thermostat may become stuck, preventing it from opening or closing as it should. A thermostat that is stuck open can cause the engine to heat up slowly, or it may fail to reach operating temperature at all. This may affect your engine's performance, and can also keep your heater from working as intended. If the thermostat doesn't open or won't stay open, the coolant won't be able to move to the radiator and the engine will quickly overheat . This can cause damage to head gaskets and other internal engine parts, and could even cause your engine to seize, cylinder heads to warp, and more. Plastic housing is not a good idea, last time I checked extreme heat can cause plastic to melt. Pay good money for a vehicle and they cut corners just to strengthen their bottom line. Very disappointed in Dodge.

Back in November of 2016 I found out that my coolant system had a crack in the plastic adapter housing. I kept putting coolant in it until July 2017 when I finally got fed up and replaced it. The reason I hesitated to have it done was because I was told that the plastic part had not been changed by the manufacturer and because of the car goes from hot to cold making the plastic weak the plastic crack would more than likely happen again. The mechanic was right because today my car started experiencing the exact same thing it had experienced back in November of 2016. All my coolant was gone from my car so I'm sure I'm having the exact same problem again not even a year after replacing the part.

The customer service person was super unhelpful. Maybe others with this problem should report it to them so they might finally see that cheap plastic on a hot engine is not the best way to build a car. I have no idea how I'm going to get this fixed since I have 4 kids and a car payment. Sorry I'm pissed and frustrated.

This is an engineering issue and should be resolved, I should not pay for this as it is something that is going to recur in another 50,000 miles or less due to the heat being so hot on the thermostat area. If you take plastic and put it in an oven at 200 degrees Fahrenheit it is going to melt. Does not matter what type of plastic it may be. They are replacing with the same plastic that was in it before and charging me to do so.
