Received 3,468 Likes on 1,822 Posts. Well that answers that! Thanks, Mark, for the insight on the 5R110W. There is an Allison transmission that will bolt up to a 7.3L (sans Ford's adapter). The AT545 was fitted behind the T444E in International's OEM builds of various medium duty chassis in the late 90's.
7.3 Godzilla and 10 speed trans in Excursion
Most likely these will be packing Ford's new 7.3-liter "Godzilla" gas engine and their revised 6.7-liter Power Stroke diesel, along with a 10-speed automatic and 2WD or 4WD. The Excursion should slot above the already massive Expedition and Expedition MAX, and should be at least 250 inches, or over 20 feet long.

Looking to buy a 7.3 Excursion... What should I watch out for?
My ex-roommate bought a 2003 Excursion with the 7.3, ran great until the fuel system started acting up. Took it to the shop, they found that mistake. Got it all fixed up, and now he gets 26 mpg on the interstate. His only mods are an AFE intake, 4" MBRP exhaust, and a DP Tuner (60hp tow, 60 eco, 80 eco, and 120 race).

I have a 2001 Ford Excursion 4x4 with the 7.3 Diesel, 110,000 miles. I'm out of town, working in Atlanta, and my transmission has started acting up. It revs way up in 1st, and I have to let off completely to get her to drop into 2nd (hard shift). From there it seems to shift okay. The OD light started flashing when the problem started.

2548 posts · Joined 2007. #6 · Feb 19, 2008. Since it got that hot, I would recommend changing the transmission fluid, as it may be burnt. The best is mobil 1 synthetic transmission fluid, available at walmart for slightly under $6 per quart. You will need about 20 quarts.

Disconnect the transmission-fluid return line at the transmission - from where the ATF returns to the transmission from the cooler. This is the line towards the rear of the transmission. Clamp the clear tubing over the line that you removed from the transmission. This is where the fluid comes out. 5.
