Carnival has a cruise for 4 nites from Nov 17 - 21 for $149. It departs Miami and goes to Key West and Cozumel, Mexico. Has anyone been on this Carnival Imagination cruise and can tell us what it's like?

snotty reply, I know, but you get what you pay for. I've often debated with the issue of if it was all I could afford, would I still go? Having been on DCL , I just don't personally think I could do a Carnival-but that's just me.

I think if you're looking for a cheap getaway it will do but don't go thru the whole thing comparing to DCL . Of course there are many aspects that won't be the same but then again neither is the price. We cruised on the Imagination in 05. It was our 2nd cruise, different itinerary than what they're offering you. It's an older ship and not sleek and modern with lots of balconies like newer ships. We had fun but my kids never want to go to the clubs. To be fair though, they don't want to go to DCL clubs either. I get that, "But don't you want to be with me Mommy?" We just chilled by the pool and dh took the kids to the arcade at night. Not much entertainment for kids outside the kids club. It was still nice to escape the cold and have family time together. Food was good as was cabin service. Usually cheap prices bring a rougher crowd. jmho.
My happily ever after began on Castaway Cay
I sailed on Sensation, Imagination's sister ship. During the first hour of boarding I was desperately trying to scramble to find a way OFF of this ship. It was old and dirty and I thought I was in for a miserable few days ahead of me. Luckily, I was wrong. Yes, it's budget. Yes, it's ugly. Sure there's a party crowd on board. But, gotta agree with a previous poster. The food was excellent. There aren't as many choices as Disney, but everything tasted great. The entertainment was excellent. The beds were super comfy once you get past the ugly. They had first run in-room movies. And the activities were fun. We found the party animals were hanging at the bars. We, on the other hand, were jumping around to the piano sing along, comedian, shows, casino, etc. And the caribbean is, well, the caribbean. If you can get away cheap, do it. Did you all see the RCCL prices? $399.00 for Independence? And $499.00 for Liberty of the Seas? I found $249 for NCL Pearl and $99.00 for NCL Sky. I think the economy crunch has hit the cruise market. Hey, if the food is good, the beds are comfy and the entertainment is good, I'm happy! happy sails. Just don't expect Disney and you'll have a great time.
Oh, BTW, forgot to mention, the spa has excellent deals! I got a 30 minute head neck and shoulder massage for $25.00. The next day I added the feet to same package for $45.00. It was amazing! But if you are a drinker, they allow you to bring wine. Their alcohol prices are crazy expensive.

NancyIL said: I booked a 4-day cruise on Monarch of the Seas out of Port Canaveral for Dec. 8-12 @ $139/pp (plus taxes and fuel supplement). I've been on that ship before out of LA so I know what to expect. I plan on having a great time. To the OP - it's nice that the Carnival ship goes somewhere besides Nassau and a private island! It would take a lot to get me to sail on Carnival again. I sailed on 2 brand new ships and one of the older ones. Service was better on the older ship.

ruadisneyfan2 said: This is how I feel about most cruise ships except for DCL's. Princess especially has ugly ships, on the exterior anyway. I've never cruised them but it looks like its butt got paddled really hard and stayed that way. They all seem to be designed for capacity, not beauty. DCL specifically said when they designed their ships, they wanted them to look like old-fashioned ocean liners from a bygone era. I hope the new ships don't look boxy. Click to expand...
ruadisneyfan2 said: Wow! You can't beat that with a stick! Really, how bad of a time could you have with such a low price? Even if there's no entertainment, my dh would eat that much $ worth just in dinners. Sometimes it's worth it just to feel the sun bake your skin a little when it's cold up north. Have fun! Working Mom of twins!
Our first cruise was on the Magic. We booked an OV guarantee and got upgraded to a Cat. 6 handicapped room (which we did NOT request...)! The trip was near perfect and certainly turned us into cruise-lovers. We LOVED every moment of the cruise and DCL in general. However... Our next two cruise opportunities required us to sail on Sunday which meant we couldn't book a 7 day DCL vacation. So, we chose Carnival (the Miracle and the Destiny). While the Carnival decor is not nearly as elegant as Dinsey (understatement of the year), we found the cruises very enjoyable. The food was as good as Disney's and the beds were nicer. In the end, we made our minds up prior to cruising that we wouldn't compare Carnival to Disney and would "lower" our standards for these cruises. Overall, we like Disney more but a Carnival cruise is WAYYYYYY better than no cruise at all. Just be sure to go with an open mind!
