5-Day Great Migration Fly in from Zanzibar

Embark on a mesmerizing 5-day adventure through Tanzania’s iconic landscapes with our Great Wildebeest Migration Fly-In Safari. Witness the awe-inspiring spectacle of the Great Migration, where countless wildebeest traverse the Serengeti plains in search of greener pastures. From the moment you touch down at Kogatende Airstrip, our professional team ensures a seamless journey.

Day 1:Zanzibar to Kogatande Airstrip

Arrive at Kogatende Airstrip, where our professional driver guide will warmly welcome you. Experience a full day of game drives in the Kogatende and Bologonja areas, focusing on the Great Migration According to a recent update, the Great Migration has arrived in the Kogatende area of the Northern Serengeti and is getting ready for the epic crossing over the Masai River. The herds are gathering along the river to the Gardenia Valley moving into the Nyamalumbwa Plains and the Sand River The Great Wildebeest Migration – the annual migration of giant herds of grazers across Northern Tanzania and Kenya is a truly spectacular event. Over two million wildebeest, zebras and gazelles move through the Serengeti and Masai Mara ecosystems in search of green pasture.

Accommodations :   Ang’ata Migration – Bologonja Camp

Day 2:northern serengeti national park.

After an early breakfast we have a game drive The Northern Serengeti offers a chance to escape the crowds: this region of the park – wedged between the Central Serengeti and Kenya’s Masai Mara National Reserve to the north – is remote and relatively inaccessible, which means it sees fewer visitors. Travellers who make it to this corner of the Serengeti will be rewarded with gorgeous landscapes, The 800-kilometre trek of the immense wildebeest herd is the largest mammal migration on earth. The timing of the migration coincides with the greening of nutritious grasses on the short-grass plains during the wet season. These areas are safer because predators can be easily spotted making it an ideal place for calving. However, the plains dry and the wildebeest are forced to move in search of greener pastures in the western corridor. The northern extension of the ecosystem has the highest rainfall, but the grasses are the least nutritious.

Accommodation : Ang’ata Migration – Bologonja Camp

Day 3:nothern serengeti national park.

After breakfast have a Full day game drive searching migration crossing Mara River in Northern Serengeti National Park if you’re planning a safari from Northern Serengeti you’re in for a treat The Serengeti National Park is home to a variety of wildlife species including the big 5 such as elephants, lions, rhinos, buffalos and leopards which are considered the most difficult wildlife species to hunt on foot. Other wildlife species which can be seen during a safari around Serengeti National Park include wildebeests, zebras, cheetahs, hippos, antelopes, impalas, waterbuck The annual migration of two million ungulates, wildebeest through Serengeti National Park is the greatest wildlife spectacle of its type in Africa, and perhaps the world. Although variations occur from year to year, the Serengeti migration follows a reasonably predictable annual cycle, dictated by local rainfall patterns. The Great Migration cycle breaks up into the following periods.

Accommodation: Matawi Serengeti Camp

Day 4:central serengeti national park to ngorongoro.

Early morning game drive towards the Central Serengeti for game drive. The great migration is supposed to be in this area from late July to mid-October crossing the famous Mara River to Maasai Mara reserve in Kenya and back to Serengeti. You will have a high opportunity to see them crossing while in the river attack them. Our guides will choose the best spotting locations to watch a big pride of lions, be in the middle of the migration, sometimes surrounded by wildebeest as well as hippo’s pools, sometimes by zebras, which travel with the wildebeest. We journey from the wide-open plains to the kopjes: these volcanic rocky outcrops provide protection and shelter for a wide variety of animals and from the top we can look out across the vast grasslands. After the game drive, you will be transferred to Farm of Dream Lodge in Karatu for 3 to 4 Hours.

Accommodation: Farm of Dreams Lodge

Day 5: ngorongoro crater to arusha aiport .

Your journey mapped out.

Ready to set out? Your Serengeti safari adventure awaits!

  • DAY 1 - ARUSHA - SERENGETI NATIONAL PARK Morning flight. Game drive. (L,D)
  • DAY 2 - SERENGETI NATIONAL PARK - NGORONGORO Game drive. Optional cultural activities. (B,L,D)
  • DAY 3 - NGORONGORO - ARUSHA Game drive. (B,L)

DAY ONE - ZANZIBAR - SERENGETI NATIONAL PARK

You'll depart from ZANZIBAR in the morning for your flight to the Serengeti National Park. Sit back and relax as Tanzania's stunning landscape unrolls beneath you.

Upon your arrival in the Serengeti, your Shadows of Africa driver will meet you and you'll commence a day-long exploration of the Serengeti National Park. You'll chase the vast herds of zebras and wildebeest, look for lions sunning themselves on rocks, spy shy leopards in acacia trees, and marvel at the majesty of elephants and giraffes as they graze.

During the day, you'll enjoy a picnic lunch while out on safari, before returning to your lodge for the evening.

DAY TWO - SERENGETI NATIONAL PARK - NGORONGORO

You'll wake early for a sunrise game drive on the Serengeti, which offers you the best opportunity to see predators in action. You'll also have the chance to see a stunning Serengeti sunrise as the rising sun seems to set fire to the savannah.

After a late breakfast, it's time to head to Ngorongoro. The drive is a game drive all of its own, and your driver will do his best to ensure you spot the Big Five, Wildebeest Migration, or whatever else your heart might desire along the way.

Once you've departed the park, you can continue directly to your accommodation to relax. Alternatively, you may wish to experience one or both of the below optional cultural activities:

Oldupai Gorge Museum: Sometimes known as the Cradle of Mankind, the Oldupai Gorge Museum commemorates some of the oldest evidence of human habitation ever found. Here you can see some of the oldest fossil evidence in the world of human habitation, visit the Oldupai Gorge Museum to learn more about the human journey, and take in the stunning views of this stark gorge country.

Maasai boma visit: Pay a visit to one of the famous Maasai bomas, where you'll have the opportunity to witness (and participate in) traditional Maasai dance, tour an authentic Maasai village, and even do a little souvenir shopping at the local market.

Both of the above activities attract an additional cost. Speak with your safari expert about adding them to your itinerary.

You'll then retire to your accommodations for dinner and a good night's sleep.

DAY THREE - NGORONGORO - ARUSHA - ZANZIBAR

After breakfast, you'll depart for Ngorongoro Crater considered by some to be the Eighth Wonder of the World. When you get your first glimpse of this vast, verdant caldera from the panoramic viewpoint, you'll soon understand why it has earned such a lofty reputation.

Home to over 120 species of mammal including the fabled Big Five, the Ngorongoro Conservation Area is one of the most sought-after safari destinations in the world. It's a particularly good place to see the endangered black rhinoceros enjoying a lonely meal out on the grass plains, as well as a place to see large numbers of hippopotamus enjoying the cool water.

From the comfort of your open-top vehicle, you'll be able to observe and photograph some of Africa's most recognizable faces. The crater is home to a large number of predators including lions, leopards, cheetahs, jackals, and hyenas, as well as a large population of wildebeest, zebras, antelope, cape buffalo, and more. It is truly one of Africa's premier safari destinations.

After the thrills and excitement of the day, you will have a picnic lunch by the park's famous hippo pool before returning to Arusha Airport.

Flight Arusha - Zanzibar 16:35 - 17:35.

Serengeti fly-in safari essentials and information

Must do on a serengeti fly in safari.

The Serengeti is indeed the highlight of any trip to Tanzania and the area is a World Heritage site and Biosphere Reserve, as well as, of course, the main tourist attraction in Serengeti .

It’s also one of the oldest and most scientifically significant ecosystems on the planet. Its weather patterns, fauna and flora are believed to have changed very little over a million years, giving the area a prehistoric feel.

The landscape of Serengeti NP is also extremely varied, ranging from savannah, to hilly woodlands, to open grasslands. If that’s not enough, you can also take in the equally stunning Ngorongoro Crater .

This incredible crater, a UNESCO world heritage site in the Ngorongoro Conservation Area, is often referred to as ‘Africa’s garden of Eden’, due to the sheer volumes of animals and wildlife found there. It is also one of the best places to spot critically endangered animals like black rhinos, golden cats, wild hunting dogs.

Animals viewed on a Serengeti fly-in safari?

The terrain of Serengeti is just as appealing as the species, and it’s much more stunning from above, but don’t forget your binoculars, as there’s an astounding diversity of wildlife concealed in these arid plains.

A plethora of wildlife congregates around the waterholes, and game drives give several views of lions, wildebeest, giraffe, and zebra from among numerous plains animals. Meanwhile, the game reserves are home to large numbers of elephants, leopards and rhinos.

Also keep a look outside for springbok and oryx, as well as rarer wildlife like the aardwolf. Buffalo, eland, gazelles, impala, and waterbuck were also discovered. Visitors will undoubtedly enjoy viewing these majestic animals in their natural surroundings.

Factors to consider when booking a fly-in safari?

The first things to think about are your finances and the length of time you have allocated for your vacation. Fly-in safaris are ideal for time-pressed vacationers.

It’s also worth considering whether you would like to see more of a region than simply the specific places into which you’ll be traveling. Traveling from region to region provides a more in-depth understanding of a nation, its people, and history than soaring over it.

This is especially true in Serengeti, with its magnificent landscape, superb roads, and active local culture as you fly by. If you are prone to travel sickness or are a fearful flier, a fly-in safari may not be the best option for you.

Aircraft used on a Serengeti fly-in safari?

The Cessna 210, a highly engineered small airplane with a single engine, is the most preferred for charter flights. It has a great reputation and is a six-seater that can accommodate up to four individuals. Perfect for beautiful flights.

The Baron is a slightly bigger and faster aircraft that is similarly flown by a single pilot but it has two engines. It can accommodate up to five persons.

A Cessna 404 can carry up to eight people. It is the Cessna 210’s elder sibling, with twin engines and two pilots. Ideal for bigger parties that want to fly in the same plane. More room and comfort.

The Cessna Caravan is a superb aircraft that accommodates up to 12 people and one pilot. The ‘4×4’ of small planes, capable of operating from rough airstrips, has a high-winged single turbine aircraft that is great for picturesque aerial photography.

Luggage restrictions on a fly-in safari?

On bush flights, luggage capacity might be quite restricted. The Cessna 206, for example, has just a tiny space under the seats, and bags are frequently squeezed in to fit within. As a general rule, soft duffle bags are preferable over hard-framed suitcases with wheels.

Some providers set quite strict weight limitations and will count your hand bags and even coats in the total. Most employers allow roughly 15kg per person as a general rule. Don’t be startled if an airline inquires about your own weight.

This is frequently done in order to securely balance the smaller aircraft. If you have too much luggage, you may be able to pay for a cargo ticket on safari routes.

What is the average cost for a Serengeti fly-in safari?

The average cost for a Serengetin fly-in safari is $2,500 – $4,000 per person for fly-in excursions whilst accommodation and activity add-ons can add to this price.

What are the advantages of a Serengeti fly-in safari?

The advantage of a Serengeti fly-in safari includes saving a lot of time by avoiding long, bumpy road journeys. You’ll also see another side of this incredible landscape and wildlife which you wouldn’t otherwise see from the ground and enjoy the thrills of descending over the vast savannah.

Are Serengeti fly-in safaris safe?

Serengeti fly-in safaris are indeed very safe with private charter aircraft well maintained and piloted by professionals with years of flying experience and safety training. Each aircraft typically carries up to 12 individuals whilst larger planes seat 35 – 50 passengers.

This 11-day luxury safari and beach holiday combines 3 nights on safari in Kenya’s Masai Mara National Reserve with 7 nights in a boutique hotel by one of Zanzibar’s pristine beaches.

Explore the incredible wildlife of Kenya’s Masai Mara National Reserve with three luxurious nights at Mara Porini Camp. The large numbers of predators, the huge abundance of wildlife and the dramatic rolling plains make Kenya’s Masai Mara one of the most popular and spectacular safari areas in Africa.

When the Wildebeest Migration rolls in (between July and early November) the game viewing becomes even better. Then you’ll leave the savannah behind and fly to tropical Zanzibar – ‘The Spice Island’. Relax on the white beaches of Breezes Beach Club and Spa, a great base from which to go scuba diving or snorkeling in the turquoise waters of the Indian Ocean.

Your journey begins with a flight from Nairobi to the famous Maasai Mara Ol Kinyei Conservancy – an 18700-acre wilderness set aside as a wildlife sanctuary with a wide variety of species including big cats. The area has open plains, forests, rivers and stunning views.

Safari game drives here are taken in the private Ol Kinyei Conservancy as well as the nearby Maasai Mara National Reserve and the adjacent Naboisho Conservancy. Your accommodations are at the award-winning Porini Mara Camp located in a unique and beautiful setting under yellow-barked Acacia trees along the banks of the Laetoli.

Porini Mara Camp is fully-inclusive of meals, drinks (vodka, gin & tonics, wine, beer, sodas and mineral water) and all activities (including day and night game drives, sundowners and escorted walks).

There is also the opportunity to book a Hot Air Balloon Safari. Game drives (shared) are in 4×4 safari vehicles with expert safari guides and you will experience the wilderness without the presence of other tourist vehicles. You also have the option to interact with the Maasai people and take a hot air balloon ride.

Next, you jet off for a 7 nights to the exotic island of Zanzibar for some serious relaxation, warm Indian Ocean water, and palm trees galore. Breezes Beach Club and Spa is a 5-star family-run Zanzibar holiday resort located on the south-east coast of Zanzibar on Bwejuu Beach.

Spend your days on activities such as soaking up the sun on secluded beaches, various water sport activities, outdoor table tennis and beach volleyball swimming, kite surfing, snorkeling, deep-sea fishing and scuba diving, pool table and a fitness and aerobics room.

Savvino-storozhevsky monastery and museum.

Savvino-Storozhevsky Monastery and Museum

Zvenigorod's most famous sight is the Savvino-Storozhevsky Monastery, which was founded in 1398 by the monk Savva from the Troitse-Sergieva Lavra, at the invitation and with the support of Prince Yury Dmitrievich of Zvenigorod. Savva was later canonised as St Sabbas (Savva) of Storozhev. The monastery late flourished under the reign of Tsar Alexis, who chose the monastery as his family church and often went on pilgrimage there and made lots of donations to it. Most of the monastery’s buildings date from this time. The monastery is heavily fortified with thick walls and six towers, the most impressive of which is the Krasny Tower which also serves as the eastern entrance. The monastery was closed in 1918 and only reopened in 1995. In 1998 Patriarch Alexius II took part in a service to return the relics of St Sabbas to the monastery. Today the monastery has the status of a stauropegic monastery, which is second in status to a lavra. In addition to being a working monastery, it also holds the Zvenigorod Historical, Architectural and Art Museum.

Belfry and Neighbouring Churches

fly in safari sansibar

Located near the main entrance is the monastery's belfry which is perhaps the calling card of the monastery due to its uniqueness. It was built in the 1650s and the St Sergius of Radonezh’s Church was opened on the middle tier in the mid-17th century, although it was originally dedicated to the Trinity. The belfry's 35-tonne Great Bladgovestny Bell fell in 1941 and was only restored and returned in 2003. Attached to the belfry is a large refectory and the Transfiguration Church, both of which were built on the orders of Tsar Alexis in the 1650s.

fly in safari sansibar

To the left of the belfry is another, smaller, refectory which is attached to the Trinity Gate-Church, which was also constructed in the 1650s on the orders of Tsar Alexis who made it his own family church. The church is elaborately decorated with colourful trims and underneath the archway is a beautiful 19th century fresco.

Nativity of Virgin Mary Cathedral

fly in safari sansibar

The Nativity of Virgin Mary Cathedral is the oldest building in the monastery and among the oldest buildings in the Moscow Region. It was built between 1404 and 1405 during the lifetime of St Sabbas and using the funds of Prince Yury of Zvenigorod. The white-stone cathedral is a standard four-pillar design with a single golden dome. After the death of St Sabbas he was interred in the cathedral and a new altar dedicated to him was added.

fly in safari sansibar

Under the reign of Tsar Alexis the cathedral was decorated with frescoes by Stepan Ryazanets, some of which remain today. Tsar Alexis also presented the cathedral with a five-tier iconostasis, the top row of icons have been preserved.

Tsaritsa's Chambers

fly in safari sansibar

The Nativity of Virgin Mary Cathedral is located between the Tsaritsa's Chambers of the left and the Palace of Tsar Alexis on the right. The Tsaritsa's Chambers were built in the mid-17th century for the wife of Tsar Alexey - Tsaritsa Maria Ilinichna Miloskavskaya. The design of the building is influenced by the ancient Russian architectural style. Is prettier than the Tsar's chambers opposite, being red in colour with elaborately decorated window frames and entrance.

fly in safari sansibar

At present the Tsaritsa's Chambers houses the Zvenigorod Historical, Architectural and Art Museum. Among its displays is an accurate recreation of the interior of a noble lady's chambers including furniture, decorations and a decorated tiled oven, and an exhibition on the history of Zvenigorod and the monastery.

Palace of Tsar Alexis

fly in safari sansibar

The Palace of Tsar Alexis was built in the 1650s and is now one of the best surviving examples of non-religious architecture of that era. It was built especially for Tsar Alexis who often visited the monastery on religious pilgrimages. Its most striking feature is its pretty row of nine chimney spouts which resemble towers.
