Squidtastic Voyage

Original air date: 10/6/2006

"Squidtastic Voyage" contains examples of:

  • Actually a Good Idea : Patrick's idea, as explained under Dumbass Has a Point , astonishes SpongeBob and Sandy as they acknowledge that it's actually a good plan coming from Patrick.
  • Be careful when you mess around with other people. If you get too unruly, someone may get hurt.
  • Let the expert handle a problem. Listen & follow their instructions carefully and don't mess around, or else you may make a situation worse.
  • Big "NO!" : SpongeBob , Sandy, and Squidward have one in unison when Patrick presses the 'Grow' button.
  • Chekhov's Skill : SpongeBob 's dancing from earlier, particularly his 'whirlpool spin', comes in handy to get the reed out of Squidward's throat.
  • SpongeBob points out that Squidward swallowed his clarinet again .
  • "Squidward, the toilet's backed up again."
  • Dinner Deformation : The episode ends with the shrunken sub growing inside Squidward.
  • Downer Ending : The growing submarine is stuck inside Squidward with SpongeBob and Patrick in it.
  • Dumbass Has a Point : Patrick says something smart that leaves the others surprised: Patrick: We can filter the CO 2 through our ballast tanks, refire the engines, and ride the shockwave out of here!
  • "Fantastic Voyage" Plot : Complete with Pop-Culture Pun Episode Title .
  • Freak Out : Squidward does this when he realizes that SpongeBob and Patrick are inside him. Sandy tells him to calm down and that he shouldn't be freaking out because he could knock them into "something important".
  • iSophagus : When Squidward swallows his clarinet and the reed gets stuck in his throat, it squeaks every time he tries to speak.
  • Involuntary Smile of Incapacitation : Squidward grins after Sandy knocks him out with a karate chop.
  • Irony : The submarine becomes stuck inside Squidward at the end of the episode after Patrick presses the grow button, but they could press the shrink button any time to turn it back to the size it was before.
  • Literal Ass-Kicking : SpongeBob and Patrick end up in Squidward's central nervous system, causing Squidward to do random stuff. When Sandy tells Squidward that he's not in control of his actions, he kicks Sandy in the butt, stating that he's not in control of his actions. But it's likely he had control of that action.
  • Poor Communication Kills : Patrick thought Squidward said "Grow", and pressed the grow button.
  • Shout-Out : The plot and episode title is a reference to Fantastic Voyage .
  • Too Dumb to Live : Patrick does some particularly idiotic things in this episode: pressing the "Shrink" button, breaking the submarine's auto-pilot, smashing the fuel tanks, and pressing the "Grow" button while the sub was still inside Squidward.
  • Ungrateful Bastard : Squidward eagerly screams at SpongeBob and Patrick to get out his body without even a thank you for getting the reed out of his throat. This results in a Poor Communication Kills in the end, when he yells "Go!", resulting in Patrick mishearing as "Grow" and pressing the grow button. Granted, they were the cause of the problem.
  • Wingding Eyes : Squidward's eyes spin like slot machines when the submarine bounces in his brain, resulting in him unable to control them.

That's No Lady

Original air date: 11/25/2006 note  First released on the Whale of a Birthday DVD on 10/31/06.

"That's No Lady" contains examples of:

  • All for Nothing : The entire point of Patrick getting a disguise was to hide from the supposed assassin. He almost instantly sees through the disguise.
  • When promoting something, make your intent clear. Presenting it with impoliteness may imply something else.
  • If you don't understand something, ask for a clarification.
  • If you feel that someone has threatened you, contact the police or a trustworthy authority figure. There's not much your friends and family can do if it is very serious.
  • If someone doesn't like you back, don't pressure them to be in a relationship with you. There are millions of other people out there who could be your sweetheart.
  • Workplace harassment, especially from the upper management, is not something to be tolerated.
  • Attractive Bent-Gender : In-Universe , at least. All of the men in Bikini Bottom (except for SpongeBob ) are instantly infatuated with Patrick when he dresses up as a lady (Patricia), especially Squidward and Mr. Krabs. That is until they found out who he really is...
  • Bait-and-Switch : GET OUTTA TOWN!...To beautiful Sunny Shore Resorts!
  • Disguised in Drag : Patrick dresses up as a woman and takes up a new identity as Patricia, so as to avoid being run out of town. However, the man who told him to "get out of town" sees right through it.
  • Downer Ending : Only applies to Mr. Krabs and Squidward, since they are disappointed when they find out "Patricia" is actually Patrick. Doesn't apply to SpongeBob and Patrick, since they continue their day normally.
  • Eye Pop : Mr. Krabs' eyes inflate and literally pop like balloons when he first sees "Patricia".
  • Head-Turning Beauty : All the men's reaction to Patricia ( except for SpongeBob of course ).
  • House Amnesia : A variation. When Patrick is packing to leave, he ends up taking clothes, peanut butter, and pickles that actually belong to SpongeBob . SpongeBob : (Tearfully) I can't believe you're leaving Patrick... With all my pickles!
  • Impact Silhouette : Patrick crashes through the wall of SpongeBob 's house when he sees his reflection after SpongeBob puts shades on him.
  • Internal Reveal : Despite the viewer learning the businessfish was just handing out vacation fliers in the first minutes of the episode, it takes until near the end for Patrick to learn this, which SpongeBob discovers upon receiving said flyer and realizes he wasn't trying to kick Patrick out of town at all.
  • Not Distracted by the Sexy : SpongeBob is the only one who is not infatuated with "Patricia". Justified in that he was the one who helped Patrick with the disguise in the first place.
  • Oblivious to Love : Patrick can't understand why Squidward and Mr. Krabs are being so nice to him while he's disguised as Patricia.
  • Poor Communication Kills : The advertiser yelling at people to "Hey, you! Get out of town!" comes off as being rude and abrasive, causing Patrick to interpret it for the worse.
  • The Real Remington Steele : Patrick's first attempt at a disguise is to wear kelp on his head and call himself "Mr. Seaweed Monster Man". Unfortunately, SpongeBob then points out that there's already a Mr. Seaweed Monster Man.
  • Sexophone : Plays when we first see Patrick's "Patricia" disguise.
  • She's Not My Girlfriend : Larry thinks that "Patricia" is SpongeBob 's girlfriend, which he denies.
  • Sobriquet Sex Switch : Patrick goes by Patricia when disguised as a woman.
  • Stalker with a Crush : Mr. Krabs and Squidward act like complete stalkers to "Patricia", popping out of random places (like the sink and the fryer) to ask "Patricia" out on a date. And they still persist even after Patrick continues to tell them "no".
  • Toilet Teleportation : At one point, Squidward pops out of the toilet to try to ask "Patricia" out on a date.
  • Unsettling Gender-Reveal : Mr. Krabs and Squidward don't take it well when Patrick reveals that he's not Patricia. Not helped by the fact that Patrick strips himself butt-naked in the process , resulting in even more Squick from both his suitors. Squidward: Umm... I think I need to take a shower.
  • Wham Line : In-Universe , when SpongeBob lets slip the fact that "Patricia" is actually Patrick. SpongeBob : I won't let you do it! You'll have to do something horrible to me before I let you throw Patrick out of town! Mr. Krabs and Squidward: PATRICK!?
  • Wholesome Crossdresser : The reason why Patrick is crossdressing in this episode is because he thinks he's being targeted by an assassin, and SpongeBob comes up with the idea for him to dress as a woman so he can stay in Bikini Bottom. Unfortunately, it ends up drawing the wrong kind of attention .

Synopsis [ ]

In the beginning of the episode, Patrick is running around in Bikini Bottom , until a stranger with a briefcase yells at him telling him to "get out of town," causing Patrick to run away scared. The stranger then tells another fish to get out of town, and hands him a flyer for a luxury vacation at a modest price to Sunny Shore Resorts . Patrick, unaware of this, runs to SpongeBob and tells him about it. SpongeBob is shocked by the briefcase and tells Patrick he might be a paid assassin. Patrick becomes convinced that he is in danger, and tells SpongeBob he is going to move.

He starts to pack his things, which are actually SpongeBob's, and is ready to leave. But SpongeBob is not ready to let him go, and asks who will perform his daily activities on a list with him, all of which include Patrick. He also asks who will be going to attend the next Jellyfisherman's Expo with him. Patrick says that he has to do them with one of his other friends, and SpongeBob continues crying.

SpongeBob comes up with a few ideas of changing Patrick's identity. First, he tries giving Patrick glasses, but he is frightened and runs into the wall. Larry, who is passing by, recognizes him and Patrick is ready to give up and walks past SpongeBob, instead saying goodbye to various objects. However, SpongeBob does not give up. He takes the seaweed that Patrick said goodbye to and puts it on Patrick's head. As SpongeBob is about to suggest something, Patrick interrupts him, saying he could be Mr. Seaweed Monster Man. SpongeBob points out that there already is a Mr. Seaweed Monster Man in Bikini Bottom. Patrick is upset, and SpongeBob says that, though he can't be a monster, the vegetation on his head gives him an idea.

"Patricia."

The scene cuts to a store. Patrick comes out of a dressing room in a blonde wig and green bikini. As they walk around town, a fish notices Patrick and tips his hat to him. SpongeBob tells Patrick that the plan is working, and refers to him as Patricia. As they giggle at their success, Larry walks up to the pair. He refers to Patricia as SpongeBob's girlfriend, to which SpongeBob denies, walking away in annoyance with Patricia. They then encounter Mr. Krabs, who angrily tells SpongeBob it's time for work. He then takes notice of Patricia, who he becomes smitten with and promptly hires.

In the Krusty Krab , Squidward glances up from his newspaper and promptly takes notice of Patricia. He starts flirting with her and, as Mr. Krabs introduces Patricia to Squidward, it soon becomes a competition between the two. Mr. Krabs and Squidward start flirting with Patricia repeatedly, to which she is initially oblivious about. The two continuously ask her on a date, Patricia turning them down each time, getting increasingly annoyed after each request.

Patrick naked.

Patrick feels that he can't take it anymore and is tired of pretending to be someone he's not. SpongeBob says he can't reveal himself or he'll have to leave town, but Patrick chooses to anyway. Just as he is about to announce to everyone his true identity, he sees the stranger that told him to get out of town and panics. He warns SpongeBob about the stranger, who asks Patricia to take his order. He goes over to him nervously and takes his order. Unfortunately, the fish recognizes him. SpongeBob sees this and confronts the stranger while protecting Patrick. SpongeBob tells the stranger that he'll have to go through him if he wants to run "Patrick" out of town, shocking Mr. Krabs and Squidward at the reveal of Patricia actually being Patrick.

SpongeBob then finds out the fish was just trying to sell Patrick a luxury vacation at a modest price. Patrick, relieved by the clarification, proceeds to rip off his disguise, revealing him to be completely naked. Squidward is disgusted by the news and Mr. Krabs fires Patrick due to not being a woman. Mr. Krabs then proceeds to go to his office in disappointment. SpongeBob and Patrick then run out of the Krusty Krab, eager to do everything they planned to do on their list.
