Bruce Springsteen Confirms Australia and New Zealand Tour

by Paul Cashmere on May 25, 2022

Bruce Springsteen & The E Street Band will tour Australia and New Zealand as part of their 2023/2024 World Tour.

While Australian dates are yet to be announced Springsteen told SiriusXM Radio “We’re eventually going to get to Australia and New Zealand, and back around again”.

The immediate timeline for Bruce Springsteen & The E Street Band, according to Bruce is, “We’re going to rehearse in January, start in the States in arenas at the beginning of February, run that through April. Then head over to Europe through the beginning of August, and come back to the States play a few stadium shows outside.

Based on that timeline, expect an Australia and New Zealand announcement soon from Frontier Touring/AEG for the summer of 23/24.

In his SiriusXM interview, Bruce said that “there will be plenty of that when we get on the road” in reference to live material of songs from the recent ‘Letters To You’ rock album but there won’t be anything from the previous acoustic album ‘Western Stars’. “I’d like to keep it a rock show,” he said. “Once you’re out in an arena or stadium, people have come to see a rock ‘n’ roll show… But you never know, something may squeak in there from that record. It’s not impossible. That one, I’m gonna have to wait and see.

Bruce Springsteen & The E Street Band last performed in Auckland, New Zealand on 25 February 2017.

Setlist: Darlington County Working on the Highway Glory Days Johnny 99 Prove It All Night My Love Will Not Let You Down Out in the Street Hungry Heart My City of Ruins Wrecking Ball The River Youngstown American Skin (41 Shots) The Promised Land Candy’s Room Because the Night The Rising Badlands Rosalita

In a statement he said, “After six years, I’m looking forward to seeing our great and loyal fans next year. And I’m looking forward to once again sharing the stage with the legendary E Street Band. See you out there, next year — and beyond.”

The North American dates in February are yet to be announced. Europe will begin in Barcelona on 28 April followed by more US dates then Australia and New Zealand.

Two years after he sold out Auckland's Mt Smart stadium - twice - Bruce Springsteen is set to return to New Zealand, playing his first-ever South Island show.

Springsteen and the E Street Band will perform on the eve of the six-year anniversary of the February quake at Christchurch's AMI Stadium, before heading to Auckland, where they will return to Mt Smart Stadium.

Springsteen's hit My City of Ruins became an unofficial anthem for Christchurch's recovery, with Springsteen dedicating an emotional performance of the song to the city in 2014.

Springsteen and the band are playing a string of shows in Australia as well, but concert promoter Michael Gudinski campaigned to get them here for the quake anniversary.

"The fact that his song was such a big part of the rebuilding of Christchurch, I spoke to [his manager] about it and... I really campaigned for that date to be in Christchurch and it's something that I think will be very special," said Gudinski, who is the head of touring company the Mushroom Group.

"While the timing wasn't planned it's just really worked and I know it'll mean a lot to the people down there. When artists tour the world and play lots of shows, it's about the shows that are unforgettable. I think it'll be one of the most emotional gigs that's happened in New Zealand."

One of Australia's most successful rock bands, Jet will also reform to join the tour along with Kiwi favourite and Christchurch local Marlon Williams with the Yarra Benders.

They play Christchurch's AMI Stadium on February 21 and Auckland's Mt Smart Stadium on February 25.

Tickets go on sale from September 23.

Bruce Springsteen & the E Street Band’s World Tour Setlist: All the Songs They Performed For Their First Show of 2024

After a six-month break, Springsteen and the band resumed their tour in Phoenix, March 19. Here's every song played.

Fans were delayed but not denied their visit from The Boss Tuesday night (March 19) in Phoenix as Bruce Springsteen & The E Street Band relaunched their world tour after a six-month break.

Springsteen was originally slated to play the Arizona date on Nov. 30 last year, but it was one of 29 shows postponed after he came off the road in early September for treatment for peptic ulcer disease .

He made no reference to his health troubles (which were clearly in his past, given his extreme energy on stage) until the closing tune of the 29-song set, when he apologized for inconveniencing anyone by having to move the show, explaining, “I had a motherf**cker of a bellyache.”

The 2 hour 45 minute concert, which started right at 7:30pm , was a rollicking, high-energy affair. Gone are tour mainstays from the earlier leg, such as the funky “The E Street Shuffle” and the jazzy 7-minute “Kitty’s Back” (both from 1973’s The Wild, The Innocent & The E Street Shuffle ), and six songs from Springsteen’s last album of original material, 2020’s Letter to You (Tuesday’s show was down to four from that set), replaced with tunes that make for a fast-paced, non-stop thrill ride of a show.

Springsteen will spend the rest of the year on the road, with more than 50 dates on the 2024 docket, including a European leg that starts in Cardiff, Wales in May and includes multiple stadium shows in cities like Milan, Madrid and Barcelona, before he returns stateside in August for stadium shows.

Below is the setlist for Phoenix’s opening night of the new leg. The tour resumes Friday  (March 22) night in Las Vegas.  For a deeper dive, go here .

Bruce Springsteen announces 2023 tour with the E Street Band, kicking off in U.S.

bruce springsteen tour 2022 new zealand

Faith has been rewarded:  Bruce Springsteen and the E Street Band are touring again .

Springsteen and E Street will begin an international tour in February 2023 with a string of to-be-announced U.S. arena dates, followed by European stadium shows beginning April 28 in Barcelona.

A second North American tour leg starts in August 2023. The planned European stadium shows will be in Barcelona, Dublin, Paris, Ferrara, Rome, Amsterdam, Landgraaf, Zurich, Düsseldorf, Gothenburg, Oslo, Copenhagen, Hamburg, Vienna, Munich and Monza. Additional cities and shows in the U.K. and Belgium will be announced later.

“After six years, I’m looking forward to seeing our great and loyal fans next year,” said Springsteen in a statement. “And I’m looking forward to once again sharing the stage with the legendary E Street Band. See you out there, next year – and beyond.”

The E Street Band is Roy Bittan, piano, synthesizer; Nils Lofgren, guitar, vocals; Patti Scialfa, guitar, vocals; Garry Tallent, bass guitar; Stevie Van Zandt, guitar, vocals; and Max Weinberg, drums; with Soozie Tyrell, violin, guitar, vocals; Jake Clemons, saxophone; and Charlie Giordano, keyboards.

"I am itching, itching to go back on tour with the E Street Band,” Weinberg told a crowd at the Count Basie Center for the Arts in Red Bank in December. “And if I feel that way, I'm pretty sure all of my colleagues feel that way, too.”

Other major music acts, including Paul McCartney and Pearl Jam, have either been touring or have announced plans to tour. Springsteen and the E Street Band have been tentative about hitting the road again.

“As far as my own plans, you know, I think you’re concerned about ever playing again,” Springsteen said to Brian Hiatt of Rolling Stone in September 2020. “So that weighs on your mind a little bit because, well, it was fun. Some of the uncertainty that the virus has brought with it is something everybody’s got to live with.”

Springsteen has said a big concern is the well-being of his fans. “I’m responsible for the safety of my audience,” he told the USA TODAY Network.

The last time the E Street Band performed together on a concert stage was Feb. 25, 2017, for the final night of The River tour in New Zealand. The band, minus Tallent and Tyrell because of COVID protocols, played the new songs “Ghosts” and “I'll See You In My Dreams” in December 2020 on “Saturday Night Live.”

“We’ll be out there in the world again next year, I hope,” said Springsteen in October at Asbury Lanes in Asbury Park in a benefit for Steven Van Zandt's Teach Rock. “I guarantee, if you bring your children and younger brothers and sisters or grandma for that matter, they’re going to see the band at its peak.”

Bruce Springsteen, born September 23, 1949, is an American rock singer and songwriter. Hailing proudly from the Jersey Shore, he is known for his literate and poetic lyrics, working-class sentiments, and marathon live shows.

Springsteen is lauded as one of the best songwriters of all time. His lyrics deal with working-class struggles, values, and desires. The verses in Springsteen's songs often tell stories about people who have fallen on hard times. Known for his political and social activism, his song lyrics repeatedly address those issues within the context of the everyday struggles of the common man.

Springsteen is considered an originator of heartland rock, a subgenre of rock music associated with the working class in the Rust Belt and Midwestern US. Other prominent heartland rock musicians include Tom Petty and Bob Segar.

Springsteen grew up in Freehold, New Jersey, with his parents and two younger sisters, Virginia and Pamela. His father held numerous working-class jobs during his lifetime and struggled with mental health issues that became more severe as he aged. Springsteen was a loner throughout his childhood and adolescence, preferring to play his guitar over socializing with his classmates and peers. His family eventually moved to California when Springsteen was 19 years old, but he chose to remain in New Jersey.

After watching an Elvis Presley performance on The Ed Sullivan Show in 1956, a 13-year-old Springsteen felt inspired to take up music, and his mother bought him his first guitar. Springsteen began to play publicly at trailer parks and local venues like Elks Lodges. In his early 20s he performed in a string of bands, including the Beatles-influenced Castiles, the hard rock bands Earth and Cream, and the big band Dr. Zoom & the Sonic Boom. He later created the Bruce Springsteen Band, which was the first group to feature legendary saxophonist Clarence Clemons.

Springsteen signed to Columbia Records in 1972 and released two albums in 1973: Greetings from Asbury Park, N.J. and The Wild, the Innocent & the E Street Shuffle. The albums were both recorded with his backing band, featuring Danny Federici, Vini Lopez, David Sancious, Garry Tallent, and Clemon. The two albums were met with critical acclaim, but neither was a financial success. Lopez and Sancious soon departed, making way for drummer Max Weinberg and pianist Roy Bittan. The revised line-up, now dubbed The E Street Band, made its debut on Springsteen’s breakthrough album Born to Run in 1975.

Following years of financial and contractual legal disputes with producers, Springsteen didn’t release any material until 1978 with the album Darkness of the Edge of Town. Despite a fresh wave of heartland rock musicians and a new trend toward the punk/new wave scene, the album performed well in the charts and earned good reviews.

Springsteen’s career took off in the 80s. He released the two-LP The River in 1980, featuring the hits “Hungry Heart” and “Fade Away,” the experimental Nebraska in 1982, and the hugely-popular and internationally-acclaimed Born in the U.S.A. in 1984. All performed well, and Born in the U.S.A. sold over 15 million copies and earned the songwriter his first of 20 Grammy Awards.

At the same time, Springsteen and the band staged a long series of impressive and energetic live shows. Springsteen released a five-LP CD box set titled Bruce Springsteen & the E Street Band Live/1975-85, which became certified platinum 13 times.

With a swelling fan base, consistent critical acclaim, and considerable commercial success, it seemed Springsteen could do no wrong. The singer continued this trend with the release of Tunnel of Love in 1987, then simultaneously released Human Touch and Lucky Town in 1992. The latter two were recorded with a new back up after Springsteen dissolved the E Street Band in 1989.

Following the release of a Greatest Hits album in early 1995 and another low-key folk album in the same vein as Nebraska titled The Ghost of Tom Joad, Springsteen released a whopping four-CD box set of unreleased material that highlighted the songwriter’s prolific talents. The E Street Band returned for a performance upon Springsteen’s induction into the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame, which was followed by a world tour and the album Live in New York City.

Springsteen subsequently released the albums The Rising in 2001, a reflection on the terrorist attacks of September 11, 2001, the folk-styled Devils & Dust in 2005, the rock-inspired Magic in 2007 Working on a Dream in 2009; a box-set rerelease of Darkness on the Edge of Town in 2010, Wrecking Ball in 2012, and High Hopes in 2014.

Springsteen released a compilation album titled Chapter and Verse in September 2016 that contained previously-unheard material dating back to the mid-1960s. Following the album's release, Springsteen embarked on The River 2016 Tour. The tour became the highest-grossing global tour of 2016, pulling in nearly US $3 million worldwide. Springsteen penned an autobiography in 2016 as well. The book, titled Born to Run, climbed to the top of the New York Times Best Sellers List.

In late 2018, a live album Springsteen on Broadway was released. The album reached number 11 on the US Billboard chart.

In 2020, Springsteen released the singles "Letter to You" and "Ghosts," leading up to the release of his 20th studio album, Letter to You.

On December 14, 2021, Springsteen gave a surprise performance at the John Henry's Friends benefit concert for autistic children.

Following the release of the singles "Turn Back the Hands of Time," "Do I Love You (Indeed I Do)," "Don't Play That Song," and "Nightshift," Springsteen's most recent studio album was announced in September 2022 and was released that November. Only the Strong Survive featured multiple covers of classic soul songs from the ’60s and ’70s.

After 40 years of cultivating a reputation as a relentless, high-energy performer, Springsteen is still touring regularly. He's headlined nearly 20 tours over the course of his musical career, and is known for his marathon performances. One of his shows at Citizens Bank Park lasted an astonishing 4 hours and 4 minutes.

The singer and musician has maintained remarkable popularity over his prolific career, selling over 64 million albums in the US, 120 million albums worldwide. He has earned 20 Grammy awards, two Golden Globes, and is an inducted member of both the Rock & Roll and the Songwriters Hall of Fame. President Barack Obama awarded Springsteen the Presidential Medal of Freedom in 2016.

In May 2022, Springsteen announced a 2023 international tour with the E Street Band, the first since 2017. The tour will continue across the US through 2023 before heading to Europe. To keep up with Bruce Springsteen tour dates and venues, check out his official website.

Live reviews

True to his ‘everyman’ image, Springsteen is obviously the master of ceremonies no matter who is on stage with him, but he manages to do so without grandstanding. Steven Van Zandt (who will always be Silvio Dante to me) and Nils Lofgren were always at the mic with him. Jake Clemons was allowed to shine on sax in tribute to his late uncle as well. Max Weinberg was always projecting from the big screens that hung above, all while holding things down from the back of the stage. Even when the crowd was yelling “Bruuuuuuce” as he came down the platform into the audience for some crowd surfing during “Hungry Heart”, there was no doubt that the whole thing was a group effort – a true family affair. The audience was the tenth member of the E Street Band as well. When Springsteen’s fingers weren’t on his guitar or snapping and waving around, he used them to slap and shake every outreached hand available to him. “Denver, I got a crush on you!” “I’ve got one question, where are the marijuana gummy bears!” “Let me hear all you mountain girls out there!” I’m sure every audience receives the same treatment, but when he’s in your city, it truly is the only city that matters.

At one point the crowd was tricked into supporting young love; the kind “without consequence or responsibility”. “It doesn’t exist! What are you applauding for?!” he joked, before reassuring the young couples in the crowd with “It’s not the real thing, but it’s a good place to start.” It was just another one of those simple, but profound truths Springsteen is famous for. The production value of the show was simple as well. The open stage allowed the audience to see the band from every angle. The trio of screens were situated up high and were there to augment the view for those in the 300 sections. No pyrotechnics or technological enhancements are need at a Bruce Springsteen show; it really is all about the music. That’s why I couldn’t help but wish the setting had been some place like Red Rocks instead of Pepsi Center. There is something just so real and human and natural about what he does, so it’s kind of sad that it had to take place in a corporate arena. But no matter the venue, we all continued the journey through the second half of The River without pause.

Bruce never disappoints! The usual 31/2 show was 4 hours last night. An apparently Christmas in jersey this year is in August because Santa Claus is coming to town.

Tenth avenue freeze out had Bruce walk/run to ( for the 2nd time in the night) to a platform in the middle of the floor, while the giant screens had a great tribute to band members who left us too soon.

4 lucky fans had a dream come true when Bruce allowed them on stage to sing/dance. The funniest being a sign that said 'who wants to dance with this old bald guy' to which Bruce said, 'I do!' And he danced with him to dancing in the dark... Class act in my opinion.

Now I know he can't play everything, however, no thunder road, glory days or trapped left this fan a little disappointed.

Bruce closed out the show with 'shout' as only Bruce does with a great firework display.

My advice? If you ever have a chance to go to a Bruce show--GO! His shows and set list are different every time and it's one of the best shows you will ever see!! Ive never actually counted but last night was probably somewhere between my 30-40th show and I may just go back next Tuesday. Hope to see you all there!

You can say "there's nothing like seeing this band in concert" about almost any band if you like them enough, but Bruce Springsteen is on a completely different level.

This isn't just a musician. This is The Boss. This is Bruce Springsteen. A Springsteen concert is a unique experience every time. He's not afraid to go deep into his repertoire of songs, but he's also not scared to bust out the big hits when he feels like it. Whether it's 'Thundercrack' or 'I'm on Fire', he tears through every song like a man with true purpose.

It's clear, from the very beginning until the end, that this is a true musician, a true artist. Especially for someone who has been consistently performing for decade after decade, it's a rare and beautiful thing to see someone who still cares about what they do, even when it's a song that he has been performing for more than three decades. There's a reason why he will be remembered for a long, long time.

If you get a chance to see him the way I have, the way that millions have, please do not pass the chance up. If you never see Bruce perform live, you are doing yourself a great disservice.

Very very disappointing, we feel a bit cheated.

Stadium (standing) full of way too drunk people who constantly banged into you and barged in front of you spilling and throwing beer as they went. Folk standing have a full on conversation about Eastenders (honestly!) and shouting and bawling over the top of the "music". Impossible to see The Boss on the stage and struggled to see the big screens (due to said drunks pushing in and standing right in front of you and then point blank refusing to move, some getting stroppy when politely asked to move aside, one woman had her water completely knocked out of her hand beside us by a drunk girl who when reprimanded let loose a tirade of abuse to poor woman - who incidentally had got a shock as the girl came flying from nowhere)

The sound was terrible! The sound seemed to bounce off the stands and caused a really bad echo, which was actually painful to listen to! I struggled to make out which song he was singing quite a few times. Never ever going to Hampden again for a gig, been twice and both were bad. Waste of our hard earned money :( Only plus was the sun shone!

Every concert I have been to to see Bruce has been amazing - Wembley, Milton Keynes, 2 nights running at the Arsenal Stadium (the highlight!), Cardiff, Hyde Park and Coventry. I have been a fan of his since 1980 when I was studying in Freiburg, Germany and met a group of American students doing a Junior Year Abroad - one in particular was a fan and played Bruce to me - I was hooked.

My first concert was at Wembley, "Born in the USA", but the lyrics of earlier albums were the ones that had already seized my heart, especially 4th July, Asbury Park (Sandy). I have experienced so many emotions and especially great happiness listening to his music. It has been impossible to find anyone who can match him live, although I have been to many concerts by other great artists. There is no-one so incredible live as THE BOSS!

chris-wells-25’s profile image

Magnificent! There are very few artists who can play non stop for over three hours and leave you wishing it hadn't finished. I'd go again tomorrow.

He played lots of songs I know, most of his greats, but could have done another hour with some top songs he left out (Born in the USA, I'm on fire, Brilliant Disguise, etc). His voice is as good as it ever was (unlike Rod, Elton, Macca and others of similar age)

Audience interaction was fantastic. One guy came in a Santa suit. Bruce spotted him, got him up on stage and changed the set to do Santa Claus is coming to town, which just rocked the stadium. Lots of other examples throughout the night. A great gig from a great showman, true legend. Seen him twice, about 30 years apart, much better now than he was then.

OMG——HAVE LOVED BRUCE FOREVER!!! The River was my 1 st concert; I think The Rising was next, Devils and Dust, his acoustic tour etc etc. I think It’s been about 6 or 7. NEVER ENOUGH!!! I live in Wisconsin, read that one of our senators—Jon Erpenbach took a second job to follow Bruce’s concerts around. Don’t I wish!! Remember the old master card ads?? Here’s my version concerning Bruce: Tickets—75 dollars, Parking—20 dollars, Feeling like a teenager again for 3 hours: PRICELESS!!!

I first saw Bruce in 1976 at the Stone Pony in Asbury Park, NJ. Next, was at the Hanger in Hazlet, NJ where he just popped in and ended up jamming with Gary US Bonds. Next, saw him in San Diego at Jack Murphy Stadium. Then, he followed me (lol) to Italy where I saw him in Torino. Then he followed me to Iowa (lol) where my husband & I took our daughter to see him in Des Moines. Her first concert. I am waiting to see him again soon, where I will hold a sign saying, I AM A JERSEY GIRL!

Bruce Springsteen Announces Lots More 2024 Tour Dates

Bruce Springsteen and the E Street Band have announced 22 additional concerts for their 2024 tour. The summer shows in the U.K., Ireland, and Europe, were revealed on Oct. 31. On Oct. 6, Springsteen revealed the rescheduled dates for the balance of his 2023 North American concerts that were postponed due to the legend’s continued recovery from a peptic ulcer disease. That decision, citing “doctor’s advice” and “an abundance of caution” KO’d more than 20 shows that were supposed to run through December 10. On Sept. 6, Springsteen postponed all of his remaining September concerts while being treated. The band was already scheduled to take a break during October before resuming with another run of concerts in November and December. Those are all pushed back to 2024; see the revised dates below.

In a Sept. 27 post, Springsteen wrote, “Thanks to all my friends and fans for your good wishes, encouragement, and support. I’m on the mend and can’t wait to see you all next year.”

Springsteen’s earlier statement on Sept. 6 noted: “Over here on E Street, we’re heartbroken to have to postpone these shows. First, apologies to our fabulous Philly fans who we missed a few weeks ago. We’ll be back to pick these shows up and then some. Thank you for your understanding and support. We’ve been having a blast at our U.S. shows and we’re looking forward to more great times. We’ll be back soon. Love and God bless all, Bruce.”

Most recently, Springsteen and the E Street Band had done three concerts at Metlife Stadium in E. Rutherford, N.J. The most recent was on Sept. 3. Just days before, he had announced the first 2024 dates of his international tour. They’re actually the two concerts in Philadelphia that were originally planned for August 2023. The pair of shows at Citizens Bank Park were abruptly postponed when the Boss took ill. Those two concerts are scheduled for August 2024, leading to speculation that Springsteen and his band will move the rest of the 2023 postponed shows to then. The tour began on Feb. 1 and continued in U.S. arenas through mid April. A second leg, of European stadium concerts followed, beginning on April 28 and concluding on July 25. A run of U.S. stadiums took place over the summer. After a break, they were scheduled to resume on Nov. 3 with arena concerts in Canada, finishing with shows in the U.S. on December 10. See the itinerary below. The original news of the tour arrived at the stroke of midnight ET on May 24, 2022.

The 2023 dates marked the first live shows for Bruce Springsteen and The E Street Band since the conclusion of their 14-month, worldwide The River Tour in February 2017. The River Tour was named 2016’s top global tour by both Billboard and Pollstar.

Still no England on that list (not to mention Scotland & Wales as well) – personally I think Bruce should make it up to us (in England) by doing a few smaller scale gigs in Brighton (maybe the Dome?) come on Bruce, do the right thing…

will Bruce and the band play in Las Vegas for the first time since 2002 ? Allegiant Stadium and T-Mobile Arena are waiting, time to end the 20 year boycott.

Springsteen was never the future of rock & roll but he is a great artist, performer. He is so overrated by the media along with his fans that it’s pathetic.

You say he is great then overrated. By who, you ? Selling out stadiums & arenas all over the world after a 50 year plus career. The only pathetic one is you with your absurd comment.

Bruce Springsteen forced to postpone tour due to health issue

Bruce Springsteen  has canceled several dates of his tour due to "vocal issues".

'The Boss' shared the news on Instagram and explained he and The E Street Band were postponing Prague and Milan under doctor's orders.

"Following yesterday's postponement in Marseille due to vocal issues, further examination and consulting has led doctors to determine that Bruce should not perform for the next ten days," the statement read. "With this in mind, additional postponements are required for Airport Letnany in Prague (originally scheduled for May 28) and San Siro Stadium in Milan (originally scheduled for June 1 and 3).

"New dates for these shows will be announced shortly."

Bruce is "recuperating comfortably," and they're "looking forward" to resuming the tour on June 12 in Madrid.

Meet bruce springsteen's three kids — including his olympian daughter and firefighting son, michael douglas, 79, looks youthful as he arrives via helicopter to monaco grand prix.

The news comes hot on the heels of Bruce performing in "hellacious" wet weather in Sunderland, England, ahead of the Memorial Day weekend.

Last year, Bruce had to postpone shows  due to symptoms of peptic ulcer disease.

During an interview with Sirius XM's E Street Radio host Jim Rotolo after his comeback show, Springsteen opened up further about his condition and how it affected his ability to sing and perform.

"Once I started singing, you know, you can rehearse singing, but your voice isn't the same in rehearsal," he shared, adding that the disease left him unable to actually sing . "You don't have that edge of adrenaline that really pushes it into a better place and the thing when I had the stomach problem, one of the big problems was I couldn't sing."

The Mayo Clinic describes the condition as "open sores that develop on the inside lining of your stomach and the upper portion of your small intestine," saying that the "most common symptom of a peptic ulcer is stomach pain."

"You sing with your diaphragm… My diaphragm was hurting so badly that when I went to make the effort to sing, it was killing me, you know?"

The inability to sing lasted for months. "So, I literally couldn't sing at all, you know, and that lasted for two or three months, along with just a myriad of other painful problems."

Bruce was recently honoured at Ivor Novellow Awards when Paul McCartney  bestowed him with the award and took the opportunity to roast him in his speech.

In a warm yet teasing manner, Sir Paul praised Springsteen, calling him a fitting recipient, before cheekily suggesting a few other names. "I couldn't think of a more fitting recipient," he said with a twinkle in his eye. "Except maybe Bob Dylan. Or Paul Simon, or Billy Joel, or Beyoncé, or Taylor Swift. The list goes on."

Known for his quick wit, Sir Paul continued, "He's known as the American working man, but he admits he’s never worked a day in his life." Imagining Springsteen as a member of The Beatles, he joked, "When it comes to talent, he’d definitely be in the top five."

Bruce Springsteen and the E Street Band’s long-awaited North American tour is set to launch Feb. 1, 2023, in Tampa, Florida, the band announced today. The two-and-a-half-month tour will unfold with 31 shows in the U.S., continuing through a home-state finale on April 14 in Newark, New Jersey, before the group heads to Europe for already announced overseas dates that will continue into July.

The outing is the band’s first since wrapping the 14-month worldwide “River Tour” in Australia in 2017 and Springsteen’s first tour in the U.S. since 2016. See the complete itinerary, below.

All of the dates announced are one-night arena stands, with the exception of two nights booked for the UBS Arena in Belmont Park, NY as the penultimate stop on the U.S. tour April 9 and 11. The New York/New Jersey area is well-represented with further dates at Madison Square Garden April 1 and Brooklyn’s Barclays Center April 3, leading up to the final night April 14 at New Jersey’s Prudential Center.

Tickets for the U.S. shows go on sale later this month, with on-sale dates ranging from July 20 to July 29.

The 2023 European dates already surpassed one million tickets sold on the initial routing, with shows added across the continent in anticipation of the band’s return to the road next year. Popular demand has seen Springsteen and the E Street Band add second stadium dates in Barcelona (April 28 and 30), Paris (May 13 and 15), Amsterdam (May 25 and 27) and Oslo (June 30 and July 2), while third shows have been scheduled for Dublin (May 5, 7, 9) and Gothenburg (June 24, 26, 28). With the milestone in ticket sales, a new tour stop has also been added in Hockenheim, Germany for July 21. Shows in the U.K. and Belgium will be announced at a later date.

The last live appearance by the band was an appearance on “Saturday Night Live” in December 2020 in support of the album, “Letter to You.”

Said Springsteen: “After six years, I’m looking forward to seeing our great and loyal fans next year. And I’m looking forward to once again sharing the stage with the legendary E Street Band. See you out there, next year — and beyond.”

In May, Springsteen phoned in to SiriusXM’s E Street Radio to talk about what fans can expect.

“It doesn’t feel that long” since the band last toured, he told host Jim Rotolo. “We’ve stayed busy over that time but still I have got the jones to play live very badly at this point, so I am deeply looking forward to getting out there in front of our fans.”

Rehearsals will start in January, and that full-fledged tour will stretch out to Australia and New Zealand following the August U.S. stadium dates and come “back around again,” he teased.

“It’s been a while and I am just aching to play — not just play but to travel and see our fans in all our different cities and feel that life again, see their faces again,” he said. “We’ve got an old-school tour planned where we will be out there for quite a while and give everybody a chance to see us if they would like to. We are going to rehearse in January — I already wrote out set lists, just to have something to do,” he added, noting that the setlist “will have a significant amount of recent material, and then we will play a lot of the music that the fans have become familiar with and love to hear. Should be a balance — feel contemporary and at home at the same time.”

In 2021, Springsteen, 72, released the group’s “The Legendary 1979 No Nukes Concerts” film, collaborated with President Barack Obama on the book “Renegades: Born in the USA” and reprised his “Springsteen on Broadway” show to help reopen New York City’s theaters last summer. Just this spring and summer, he made three live appearances: two at MetLife Stadium on two separate occasions in New Jersey with Paul McCartney (June 16) and Coldplay (June 5) , and with McCartney again at the Glastonbury Festival in London.

The newly announced U.S. dates:

The on-sale times listed above are all for participants in Ticketmaster’s Verified Fan program, preceding a general on-sale by five hours, with the exceptions of the shows with asterisks, where tickets will go on sale to all buyers at once.

Springsteen connection to Freehold still strong 40 years after 'My Hometown' release

Welcome to “My Hometown.”

On June 4, 1984, the Bruce Springsteen song “My Hometown” made its debut when it was released on Springsteen and the E Street Band’s “Born in the U.S.A.”

Forty years later, Springsteen’s connection to his hometown is stronger than ever.

It’s almost closing time on a recent weekday afternoon at Roberto’s Freehold Grill on East Main Street, but owner Roberto Diaz is happy to take a customer to the back of the diner where photos of Springsteen adorn a gallery wall.

More: 'My Hometown': Tour the Jersey Shore spots that Bruce Springsteen made famous

“It’s a blessing that Bruce stops here, and every time he comes here he’s smiling and happy,” Diaz said.

The Boss made Roberto’s a regular stop while he was recovering from a bout with peptic ulcer disease in late 2023. Diaz would not disclose what Springsteen eats at the diner beyond it being a light breakfast.

Springsteen fans from around the world have zeroed in on Roberto’s Freehold Grill.

“They do, especially people from Europe — they’re big fans,” said Diaz, a longtime Freehold fixture who formerly worked at Sweet Lew’s Cafe on East Main Street. “A group of fans from Spain come at least a couple of times a year. They love his concerts.”

The ambiguous ending

Springsteen ended "Born in the U.S.A.," his biggest-selling album, with “My Hometown,” a ballad that recounts actual events in Freehold during his lifetime and imbues them with a universality that’s resonated with fans around the world over the last 40 years.

The protagonist in “My Hometown” faces a decision of whether or not to leave his hometown for a better economic opportunity elsewhere in the ambiguous ending of the song.

“Was (the protagonist) doing that because he’s leaving and he wants his son to see it before they go, or is he doing it because you know what, we're going to stay and this is your hometown and you got to fight for it,” said Kevin Coyne, Freehold historian and writer who teaches journalism at Columbia University.

In Springsteen’s case, he stayed. The Boss lives 15 minutes away in Colts Neck, and he’s often seen around town when not on tour.

He popped into a barber’s chair at Joe’s Barber Shop on South Street late last year. The shop is referenced in his song, “Long Walk Home.”

“I think he appreciates this town a little bit more since he is older,” said Mike DiBenedetto, owner of Joe’s and a member of the borough council. “It’s funny, he asked if I went to Broadway to see his play and I said, 'Why would I spend $800 or $1,000 to go see you talk about a place I just came from. I’m only a barber, but that doesn’t make sense to me.”

DiBenedetto, a Freehold native, cracked a sly smile as he talked.

'Where Bruce is from'

Much of “Springsteen on Broadway” centered on Springsteen’s childhood in Freehold, and “My Hometown” was performed. When the Boss performed on the 2018 Tony Awards broadcast, he performed the “My Hometown” segment.

“I have children who were raised in this town and I thought it was really important for my children to understand that Bruce was from here,” said Phil Saunders, 58, who is not a Freehold native. “The different places where he lived, where his mom worked, where his dad would have a few drinks after work. I thought it was interesting for my younger children to understand that so that when they went to college, people would say, ‘Oh, you’re from New Jersey. That’s where Bruce is from,’ and they could have a little bit more of an earthiness about where they’re from. The home ties.”

“My Hometown” is not a flattering portrayal of Freehold. While it tells of economic and racial strife, there is an understated pull of place, time and spirit that transcends the materially obvious.

Home may not be perfect, but it’s home.

“When the album came out the town embraced it,” Coyne said. “There were bumper stickers that said ‘My Hometown Freehold.’ What are we calling the Springsteen museum? We’re calling it the ‘My Hometown’ center because we’re proud of it. It was battered, but it was real and it was ours, and that's what that song says.”

'Everything changed'

The starkest part of “My Hometown” is the detailing of racial tension in the town, specifically a 1969 incident where a car of white youths fired a shotgun into a car of Black youths.

Dean Lewis, then 16, lost an eye in the incident.

“It was a cool town for kids, but what illuminated a lot of (blank) was when Dr. Martin Luther King was murdered, and a lot of stuff started coming out and a lot of bad energy was directed,” said David Blackwell, 73, a Freehold childhood friend of Springsteen’s. “There were white guys we never had an issue with, period. Then all of a sudden you got to be down, so things changed.

"These were my friends who I went to school with everyday. I’m not going to go to war with them but what happened, and it’s in that song, is everybody was demonstrating and there were civil rights people in town and the car pulled at a traffic light and these white kids pulled up with a shotgun and shot into the car — and that’s when we had a riot.

“Everything changed and Bruce picked up on it. He picked up everything.”

'Big night in Dublin'

“My Hometown,” produced by Springsteen, Jon Landau, Chuck Plotkin and Steven Van Zandt, was released as a single on Nov. 21, 1985, with “Santa Claus is Coming to Town” as the B-side. The song hit No. 6 on the Billboard Hot 100.

The My Hometown: The Bruce Springsteen Story Center, a multipurpose museum and event space, is planned for the firehouse, 49 W. Main St. The Bruce Springsteen Archives and Center for American Music at Monmouth University and Freehold are collaborating on the effort, which has an opening date of spring 2026. The plan for proposed redevelopment of downtown is called the “Hometown Redevelopment Area Plan.”

During the May 19 concert at Croke Park in Dublin, Springsteen dedicated “My Hometown” to his “homies” of Freehold and Rathangan, the Irish home of his ancestors. Leaders of Freehold and Rathangan are in the process of formalizing a twin city agreement between the two towns.

“Big night, big night in Dublin,” said Springsteen from the stage. “We got the mayor of Freehold, who’s here tonight. My hometown, I got relatives from Rathangan and they’re going to twin the two towns together. This is for my homies.”

'The center of my art and my life'

Springsteen has called the firehouse at 49 W. Main the “coolest building in town.”

“It’s the beginning of a lot of great things,” said Mayor Kevin Kane. “He’s 1,000 percent behind everything we’re doing, just loves the idea and like I told him, this is your story in your words supplemented by all the people, family and friends who grew up with you and around you and where we’re at now. People are going to come from around the world to find out more about our hometown. It’s tremendous.”

Springsteen, his family members and loved ones, and friends from town, attended the Freehold funeral for his mom, Adele Springsteen, at St. Rose of Lima Church, and the repast at Federici’s Family Restaurant on East Main Street. She passed away Jan. 31 at the age of 98.

“I come into town often. Very, very often,” said Springsteen at the My Hometown announcement in 2022. “We’ll be sitting in Federici’s or I’ll drive through on my own. I still do all the time. I’m watching you, I guess. It’s been wonderful having this town at the center of my art and my life, and I look forward to doing that till they put me in a box.”

The rhythm of Springsteen, Freehold and “My Hometown” is more vibrant than ever.

“It’s a pleasure to have him as our superstar,” DiBenedetto said. “I’m glad he can get out more and enjoy the town.”

Bruce Springsteen this past Sunday put his European tour on hold while the 74-year-old singer-songwriter recovers from vocal issues. The Boss and his E Street band have postponed three international concerts, per doctor’s orders, and plan to resume the tour on June 12th.

Shows affected by the postponement include performances originally scheduled for May 28th in Prague and June 1st and 3rd in Milan. Those shows will be rescheduled to a yet-unspecified later date, and those who cannot attend the new shows may request a refund through their point of purchase. Per the announcement, Springsteen should back in action on June 12th to kick off a two-show run in Madrid.

This announcement comes after Springsteen played one of his typical nearly three-hour extravaganzas through a persistent rainstorm in Sunderland, UK on May 22nd. The next day, Bruce accepted the Academy Fellowship from The Ivors Academy in London—the first international songwriter to do so—where his voice was noticeably hoarse and cracked intermittently.

This latest postponement followed another postponed Bruce Springsteen show in Marseille, originally set to take place on May 25th. “Following [Saturday’s] postponement in Marseille due to vocal issues, further examination and consulting has led doctors to determine that Bruce should not perform for the next ten days,” the band posted on social media . “Bruce is recuperating comfortably, and he and the E Street Band look forward to resuming their hugely successful European stadium tour on June 12 in Madrid at the magnificent Civitas Metropolitan.”

This isn’t the first health-related setback Springsteen has faced on his lengthy world tour. A month after beginning their first U.S. tour since 2016, Bruce & The E Street Band postponed three concerts in March 2023 due to an unspecified illness. Things were smooth sailing for a while until September when the Boss punted a string of shows as he recovered from peptic ulcer disease , later pushing his remaining 2023 tour dates into 2024. Come March, however, Bruce was back in action as he powered his band through the remaining U.S. tour dates, making up all his postponed dates with thrilling marathon concerts across the country.

Bruce Springsteen & The E Street Band will return to the United States in August to finish off the second domestic leg of the tour. Scroll down for a full list of tour dates and visit Springsteen’s website for tickets.

Bruce Springsteen and the E Street Band have postponed two more upcoming concerts amid issues with the singer’s voice.

The disappointing announcement, posted on Instagram , said that Springsteen has been advised by a doctor to take 10 days away from performing in order to recover.

Along with the Marseille concert that was previously cancelled on May 25, the affected shows include a performance on May 28 in Prague and two dates, June 1 and 3, at Milan’s San Siro Stadium.

After the Milan concerts, Springsteen and the E Street Band had already planned a week-long break, which is expected to give the singer sufficient time to recover before the tour resumes on June 12 in Madrid.

The announcement, titled ‘Bruce Springsteen and The E Street Band to Postpone Prague and Milan Shows Under Doctor’s Direction, European Stadium Tour Resumes June 12 in Madrid,’ reads in full: ‘Following yesterday’s postponement in Marseille due to vocal issues, further examination and consulting has led doctors to determine that Bruce should not perform for the next ten days.

‘With this in mind, additional postponements are required for Airport Letnany in Prague (originally scheduled for May 28) and San Siro Stadium in Milan (originally scheduled for June 1 and 3). New dates for these shows will be announced shortly.

‘Those wishing a refund will be able to obtain it at their original point of purchase. Bruce is recuperating comfortably, and he and the E Street Band look forward to resuming their hugely successful European stadium tour on June 12 in Madrid at the magnificent Civitas Metropolitan.’

Springsteen, 74, has had to manage an array of health concerns in recent years. Last year, he postponed multiple shows due to a bout with peptic ulcer disease.

Despite these challenges, the resilient rocker has rescheduled the 24 postponed shows and added more stadium dates in Europe and the U.S.

Since the E Street Band’s tour resumed on March 19 at the Footprint Center in Phoenix, the strength of Springsteen’s voice has been a focal point for fans and critics alike, as its been clear that the iconic singer has been battling to stay healthy.

Despite the recent postponement, fans remain supportive of Springsteen’s health and well-being.

The new date for the Marseille concert will be announced soon, and fans are encouraged to hold onto their tickets or seek reimbursement if necessary.

Lorde, Our Elusive Queen, Briefly Returns with a Surprise Performance

She covered Bruce Springsteen with fellow musician Marlon Williams in her native New Zealand.

the tonight show starring jimmy fallon

Lorde has been keeping under the radar for the past few years, but she recently reemerged into the public for a surprise performance in Auckland, New Zealand.

Fans have been waiting for the songstress to release new music following her 2017 Grammy-nominated album, Melodrama . Last spring, she gave listeners hope with an update: She does have a new release in the works.

"I started going back to the studio in December [2019], just for something to do, and to my surprise, good things came out," she wrote to fans in May 2020. "Happy, playful things. I felt my melodic muscles flexing and strengthening."

The singer, who is collaborating with producer Jack Antonoff on the upcoming work, also shared that her writing just "flowed," but the pandemic brought the process to a halt. "Things started to take shape. And then, of course, the world shut down," she added. She promised that the music will be well worth the wait though. "The work is so fucking good, my friend," she said. "I am truly jazzed for you to hear it."

Last December, Lorde published a photo book of images from a recent life-changing trip to Antarctica and revealed that the voyage was also an impetus for her to start making music again. "When I went to Antarctica, I hadn't yet started writing again after finishing Melodrama, " she said in an email to fans, per Vulture . "I realised after the trip that what my brain had been craving was a visit to an alternate realm."

She described the book, Going South , as a "perfect precursor to this album in an abstract way."

Bruce Springsteen

Bruce Springsteen and the E Street Band have postponed three upcoming shows in Prague and Milan, “under doctor’s direction,” Springsteen announced Sunday on Instagram .

The move comes after the iconic musician had to reschedule a planned concert in Marseille on Saturday “due to vocal issues.”

Now, “further examination and consulting has led doctors to determine that Bruce should not perform for the next 10 days,” Springsteen wrote on Instagram.

Springsteen, the post said, “is recuperating comfortably,” with the European tour resuming June 12 in Madrid.

Last fall Springsteen and the E Street Band had to postpone all of their 2023 tour dates to the following year due to Springsteen’s peptic ulcer disease, for which he underwent treatment and was recovering from last year.

At the time, Springsteen told fans, “Thanks to all my friends and fans for your good wishes, encouragement and support. I’m on the mend and can’t wait to see you all next year.”

Prior to that, Springsteen had postponed and canceled multiple dates due to health issues.
