Chris de Burgh is a singer-songwriter of British and Irish heritage. He is well known for his number one hit song “The Lady in Red” released on June 20th 1986.

It all started when Chris de Burgh signed to A&M Records in 1974, embarking on a tour with Supertramp, gradually building up his own fan base. His debut album “Far Beyond These Castle Walls”, his debut album, released in 1975, managed to grace the number one spot in Brazil. It was unfortunately quite a slow process following the release of this album for de Burgh’s music to his the charts internationally. It was the album “The Getaway”, released on December 19th 1982 and achieved platinum status in Germany. It peaked at number 30 in the UK. “Man on the Line” saw the band achieve copious amounts of success; gradually working it’s way up the chart, making it to number 11 in the UK album chart.

It was “Into the Light”, Chris de Burgh’s eighth studio album, released on June 1st 1986, that became a number one record, going 2x Platinum in the UK, Gold in the US and Platinum in Germany. It features the single “The Lady in Red”, released officially as a single in it’s own right on June 20th 1986, making it to the top 10 of 23 different charts. His following album “Flying Colors” had similar success, making it to number 1 in three different countries, whilst “Power of Ten” made it to number 1 in just Germany. Between “This Way Up” released on May 19th 1994, and the album “Home”, released on October 12th 2012, Chris de Burgh’s albums would at least make it into the charts of four different countries.

He released “The Hands of Man” on September 26th 2014 and he also released four live albums one of which, “High on Emotion: Live from Dublin”, was released on September 11th 1990, and went 2x Platinum in the UK.

Live reviews

Whatever you think of his music, you at least have to credit Chris De Burgh with having a genuinely fascinating background; born in Argentina, specifically in Santa Fe Province, he was the son of a British Colonel and Diplomat, but despite travelling the world as a youngster, living in countries as far-flung as Zaire for spells of his youth, he never had any intention of following in his father’s footsteps, instead eschewing any practical use of his Masters degree in French, English and History by signing a record deal - his first - in 1974, with A&M Records. He went on to struggle commercially for most of the seventies in the Western world, but built up an avid fanbase in Latin America; in 1986, though, he took the pop world by storm with his iconic ballad ‘The Lady in Red’, and the rest is very much history; he’s sold no fewer than forty million records since. He continues to tour and record to this day, and has a new solo album lined up for September of this year, The Hands of Man. In support of it, he and his band have routed a UK tour for May of 2015, so plenty of time to get your hands on tickets yet; expect a hit-packed, career-spanning set if you do attend.

Chris de Burgh is one of Britain's most recognisable names having sold over 40 million records around the world and despite his music never being considered revolutionary, there is an endearing element to the way in which Chris performs his large discography. The man himself is impassioned for the songs he has written and recorded over the years and he is well aware that the crowd hold them in equal fondness.

He is an interesting performer to watch live as he seems to be constantly exchanging instruments and taking to the piano to slow the tempo for balladic renditions of 'Up Here In Heaven' and 'The Fields of Agincourt'. There is an incredibly heavy emotional weight to Burgh's music and he is able to leave many an audience member moved with his pained vocal. Of course his most recognisable hit 'Lady In Red' is as perfect as you would imagine with rich strings and percussion breathing a new lease of life into this diamond hit. It is perhaps Chris's mannerism most of all that resonates with the audience though as he is a true gentleman and a classic performer.

A great show at The Philharmonic Concert hall in Liverpool. Chris sang all the favourites and some new songs from his recent album A Better World, wonderful and powerful voice great stage presence and music, effective lighting. Audience involved with Lady in Red in second half one had the opportunity to dance with Chris...I never got that chance even though I did wear red. He did some aucustic numbers in the second half and his famous A Spaceman Came Travelling with great lighting effects. Encore of numerous songs, he welcomed Liverpool and they welcomed him, he sang Walk on with a Liverpool football scarf held above him. The encores were fantasic and he kept returning to the stage, it was all him throughout with his band he was on stage for more than 2hrs what a star, what a great show, thankyou Chris.

A phantastic concert! It's worth your money. He sings one hour for the intermission and an hour and a half after. His songs and voice sounds just as on the CD. It seems, he is singing very easy. He is changing new and older material in his programm very good. During "The lady in red" he got off the stage and walked through the whole hall shaking hands with fans. Also after his last song he went off stage just to thanks his fans. A great artist who gives a great show and also knows how to deal with his fans.

Seriously, you guys need to get it right. Chris de Burgh is only referred to as "British? because his father was a British diplomat. He never lived there, nor had any interest in doing so. He has always lived in Ireland, where he still lives and has been and always will be, interested in being Irish, because his mother is Irish. Being born to a British diplomat gives Britain some claim, but only a negligent amount. He is an Irish artist and always will be. Thank you.

Another good show with Chris de Burgh,

Sometimes the backing music was too loud and difficult to hear Chris de Burgh’s words.

Met him as he was walking to his hotel in the afternoon so it put us in the mood for the show.

Kieler schloss in kiel, germany on tue, 19 jul 2016.

Thank you for the Music Chris, nice evening in the Kiel Castle!

Southern Alberta Jubilee Auditorium in Calgary, Canada on Wed, 07 Oct 2015

What an amazing show he put on! I have yet to go to a concert that lasted as long as this one. The atmosphere was fantastic, full of high energy. His mix of old and new music was outstanding! The best concert I have ever seen. His depth of heart in his music is very moving. I wouldn't have missed this show for anything!

I saw him in Edmonton in 1988, and again last night. He surely did not disappoint! 2 3/4 hours of performance, which most other artists can not claim. A fantastic blend of the old and the new, culminating with an encore -- "Patricia"! Well worth the money and the travel time. I can't wait for the next one. Fabulous!

Centennial Concert Hall in Winnipeg, Canada on Mon, 05 Oct 2015

I have seen chris since 1975 almost every tour. Never a bad concert. How could it be? He has been performing sold out auditoriums for 40? Years?? First I saw him at Univ de Montreal, then Place des Arts, Calgary , toronto, London, now Winnipeg. Always will be a fan. His songs always touch my heart.

It's been 20 years since he was here last and sounds even better! I have always ranked him as my #1 concert and still is! Man can he sing! You get so drawn into his stories he sings to you....beautiful! LOVED IT! 10/10

Saw him in concert twice before and he does not disappoint! Sings from his heart and soul. Was just a wonderful concert. Interaction with the crowd was fun! Bought a t shirt and sadly Winnipeg was misspelled. Not the first time from different entertainers coming here.

Bournemouth International Centre in Bournemouth, UK on Tue, 12 May 2015

Brilliant show with great songs and lighting Chris is such a professional an it was just wonderful

Liverpool Philharmonic Hall in Liverpool, UK on Fri, 08 May 2015

This was our first trip to the philharmonic hall in Liverpool, although we only live in north wales and I must say I'm very impressed with the venue great stageing and terrific acoustics, very Art Deco. Anyway about chris de burgh after being a somewhat armchair fan for many years It was gobsmacking absolutely brilliant, my wife came with me and she was even more impressed as she didn't no many of the songs he played and loved his voice. All the favorites were there like don't pay the ferry man, lady in red, boarder line, and loads more as well as most of the the new album " the hands of man". The band were surperd and the hall made them sound fantastic, what was a bit bizzar was Chris and co doing there version of Africa by Toto, although a great song in its own right not sure why he slotted that one in, did Chris write it? I'm sure someone will tell me. I think the most poinient moment came at the end of the show when he sang " you will never walk alone" for the annerversiry of hillsbough and the 96 that lost there lives, very emotional. All in all it was one of the best gigs iv been to. Thank you to Chris and his band for making it a most memorable evening. martyn from Abergele

Lipperlandhalle in Lemgo, Germany on Sat, 02 May 2015

Yesterday in Lemgo, I was the first time on a Chris de Burgh concert. It was just great. The song selection was great, the atmosphere great and I have thus fulfilled a childhood dream. Very clear to me, it will not be the last concert, on which I am going.

After having a quite slow start the show turned into an amazing event! Chris again at his best. Thus show gab been my 30th anniversary seeing him life on stage and he really took me back to those "high on emotion" feelings of great old days. Thanks a lot for that, Chris. Looking forward to seeing you again.

MCD Presents Chris de Burgh

MCD Presents Chris de Burgh

Chris de Burgh celebrates a remarkable and rare career milestone during 2024, half a century as a recording artist. Yet when he signed his first recording contract in 1974 and his debut album, ‘Far beyond These Castle Walls’, was released by A&M Records that same year, Chris did not look beyond the immediate future.

“As I held a copy of that record in my hands, I had absolutely no idea that this would even go any further,” he recalls.  “I was incredibly naive about the music business but I was full of hope and dreams and, spectacularly, my dreams not only came true, they came truer than true.  I had no concept that I was going to last as long as this.  Fifty years?  Wow!”

A song from that first album offered a very early glimpse of what might lie ahead for Chris; the single ‘Flying’ spent 17 straight weeks at No.1 in Brazil.  “I thought ‘Right, I’m off!  A world star, overnight!’,” Chris remembers.  “Not a chance.  From then on, it was a real, real slog and a hard, hard time, but the grounding that I’d had in my parents’ hotel, Bargy Castle, performing for the guests there made me believe that I did have something that I could give to people.”

Gradually, market after market – Australia, South Africa, Ireland, Norway, Canada, the United Kingdom, Germany, Austria, Switzerland and Lebanon , to name a few – tuned into his music with the release of each new album and a solid foundation for a lasting and meaningful international career was built.

“What I was trying to achieve was looking at a globe of the world and turning lights on within it,” says Chris.  “Some of them took longer to come on, some of them never came on, some of them have dimmed subsequently, which is of course entirely natural.

“I put in a huge amount of travelling and work because, at the end of it, there’s only one me.  I’m the engine.  I write all the songs, all the lyrics, do all the TV shows, all the radio shows, all the interviews.”

Over the course of five decades, Chris has achieved worldwide album sales more than 45 million, performed approaching 4,000 concerts globally and, perhaps more remarkably than anything else, continued to make his music, his way for his loyal followers.  “Without the love and support of my audience I would never have had such a long career,” Chris acknowledges.

To celebrate that relationship and his musical longevity, Chris will be releasing a new album, ‘50’, in 2024 and embarking on a solo tour throughout Europe and beyond.

“I will select my favourite songs for the new album from each one of my previous studio albums” , he says, “and I will also write and record three new songs.  That will be a great way of going out there and saying, ‘This is what I’ve done.’  It’s just a taste of what I’ve done, of course, because I’ve written some 330 songs and counting.”

“The tour will be about referring back to when I started out, as a single guy with a guitar and piano.  So, it will be me performing and talking about the music, talking about the origin of the songs and their background.”

Meanwhile, ‘Robin Hood – The Musical’, co-created by Chris and already a smash hit production, will premiere at new locations in Germany, Switzerland, and Austria in 2024, having initially opened in Fulda and then in Munich and Hameln.

“Ticket sales for the production are astonishing,” says Chris, “and 200,000 people have been to see it performed in a small, 700-seat theatre in Fulda.  It’s been very exciting and I’m immensely proud of the musical.”

It’s evident from this latest successful twist in his career that Chris continues to be creative and enjoy new challenges.

Wow!’ His initial success, marked by the single ‘Flying’ dominating the charts in Brazil for 17 weeks, was only the beginning.

Over the decades, Chris’ music has resonated with audiences worldwide, leading to over 45 million album sales, nearly 4,000 concerts, and a loyal fan base that has stood by him through the ups and downs of a relentless music career.

In 2024, to mark this incredible journey, Chris de Burgh is set to release a new album titled 50 , featuring a selection of his favourite songs from each of his studio albums, alongside three brand-new tracks. This album is not just a celebration of his past works but a testament to his ongoing passion for music and songwriting.

Accompanying the album release, Chris will embark on a solo tour, offering fans a unique experience as he performs with just his guitar and piano, sharing the stories and origins behind his most beloved songs.

Chris de Burgh celebrates a remarkable and rare career milestone during 2024; half a century as a recording artist.

0 Stars The tour will be about referring back to when I started out, as a single guy with a guitar and piano. So it will be me performing and talking about the music, talking about the origin of the songs and their background. Chris de Burgh

I write all the songs, all the lyrics, do all of the TV shows, all the radio shows, all of the interviews.”

Over the course of five decades, Chris has achieved worldwide album sales in excess of 45 million, performed approaching 4,000 concerts globally and, perhaps more remarkably than anything else, continued to make his music, his way for his loyal followers. “Without the love and support of my audience I would never have had such a long career,” Chris acknowledges.

To celebrate that relationship and his musical longevity, Chris will be releasing a new album, ‘50’, in 2024 and embarking on a solo tour throughout Europe and beyond.
