FINAL CURTAIN CALL This show is no longer running.

Tedeschi Trucks Band carries a distinguished reputation as one of the premier live bands performing today – and they show no signs of slowing down as they head into their tenth year together. Led by Derek Trucks’ stinging fretwork and Susan Tedeschi’s naturally stunning, emotive vocals and guitar talents, the 12-member strong collective continues to expand musical boundaries in ways that only a rare calibre of musician can achieve. The band is touring in 2020 behind their fourth studio album, Signs and companion EP High & Mighty . Commanding performances and exceptional musical chemistry – hallmarks of the can’t-miss-concert experience fans have come to anticipate live – are evident throughout. From uplifting soulful anthems, to bittersweet ballads and driving rock and roll, Tedeschi Trucks Band delivers a sound and message that taps tradition while also extending the edges of American music with a genre defying collection that is all their own.

Recent tour reviews

Very hard working band! Nearly 2 hours of non-stop high energy performance. Big Band sound, percussion excellent, amazing guitar riffs - however - I was expecting Susan as a singer and the performance was focused on Derek's, Susan's and other band members instrumental performance. I enjoyed the first couple of long riffs but it quickly became like eating too much of a good desert. As good as they are I almost left. The warm up was Los Lobos also with strong guitars so the evening was too much of excellent performances I wasn't there to experience.

Now Sac Memorial Auditorium. Recently remodeled a fine venue for many events. But if you're there for music the only acceptable seats are center floor. Sides and upper deck experience far too much sound distortion. I walked around [we were side upper deck] and differences were very clear. So be aware of discounted pricing for areas other than the floor.

Self indulgent and disinterested in their audience, this was one of the most disappointing gigs I've seen in a long time.

Never ending solo spots from all 12 musicians onstage, it seemed like a dull rehearsal room jam.

Bands can vary their setlists, but they are usually built on key songs that form the foundation to every show.

TTB don't care what the audience. As Derek Trucks will spend the whole show with his back to the audience, Susan Tedeschi tells the audience they won't be playing Midnight in Harlem as they played it the night before.

I waited years to see this band, and what a let down it was.

Moving up to arenas?

That's going to be painful.

I'll be washing my hair that night.

Paid $150 for this concert which was a lot. It was the worst concert have ever been to. My friend and I️ had to leave before it ended.

Love Susan Tedeschi vocal but she hardly sang. It was one long instrumental jam session after another. She had her back up vocals singing and a brass section that frankly did not vibe for me with this type of music . I️ love the blues. Derek was incredible on the guitar but like every song had a long guitar session session.

Most concerts are 70% about the music, lyric song and 30% instrumental. This was the opposite. Wow so dissappinted

Tedeschi Trucks Band filled out much of its 2024 calendar on Monday, announcing new Deuces Wild tour dates. The fresh crop of over four dozen concerts will carry the Grammy-winning 12-piece across North America from May through October, featuring special guests Little Feat ,  Margo Price , Greensky Bluegrass , and Joe Purdy on select dates.

The new  Deuces Wild tour dates will kick off with a two-night stint in Portland, OR (5/22–5/23), launching the band’s first West Coast run since 2022. Other western dates will follow in Washington, California, Nevada, Phoenix, and more ahead of the band’s two-night return to Red Rocks Amphitheatre (7/26–7/27) with Margo Price.

The tour also features multi-night engagements across the country in Minneapolis (8/2–8/3), Bridgeport, CT (8/23–8/24), Saratoga Springs, NY (8/30–8/31, featuring three-act bills of TTB with Margo Price, Little Feat, and Greensky Bluegrass on a rotating basis), a two-night run at New York’s Beacon Theatre (9/24–9/25) followed by two nights at Brooklyn’s Kings Theatre (9/27–9/28), Boston (10/1, 10/4), and finally Port Chester, NY (10/8–10/9).

The band announced its return to the Beacon from the stage during its headlining debut at Madison Square Garden last summer, part of the two-city Garden Parties  arena run which began at Boston’s TD Garden .

The band is already on track for a big year in 2024, with bandleaders Derek Trucks and Susan Tedeschi fresh off a weekend of serving as special guests at the inaugural Dead Ahead destination event in Mexico. Down south in Cancún, Derek and Susan played in the sand with the  Grateful Dead ‘s  Bob Weir and Mickey Hart , their Dead & Company bandmates Oteil Burbridge , Jeff Chimenti , and Jay Lane , and country music ass-kicker Sturgill Simpson . Photo by David McClister

The Grammy Award-winning Tedeschi Trucks Band has announced a run of summer tour dates across the US that kick off with homecoming shows in Jacksonville, FL on June 22 at Daily’s Place and a two-night stop in Atlanta, GA at the famed Fox Theatre.

This year’s run will bring the band to 20 cities, including some new summer additions like Toronto and Kansas City, and returns to Indianapolis, St. Louis, among others. Newly announced dates add to the multi-night performances at Wolf Trap (June 27, 28) and Red Rocks Amphitheatre (July 28, 29 – the tour’s closing shows) that are on sale now.

Also new this year will be a single support act each night, allowing TTB to play longer sets. Country and blues singer/songwriter Vincent Neil Emerson will support the tour’s first few dates and return in late July for the final five stops. Legendary musician, producer, and activist, Ziggy Marley will support all dates in between. Fans can expect the same musically collaborative, family friendly atmosphere at some of the country’s best venues that have made TTB a highlight of the summer season–with more time for the band to dig deeper into their 100+-song catalog.

Led by the husband/wife duo of guitarist Derek Trucks and singer/guitarist Susan Tedeschi–hailed as “two of the best roots rock musicians of their generation” ( NPR )–the 12-piece group is known globally for their unmistakable sound and world class musicianship that seamlessly blends distinctive genres of American music.

Since forming in 2010, TTB’s caravan has traveled countless miles to bring their music to audiences around the world. With a large catalog that spans rock, blues, jazz and even country, no setlist is ever the same, leaving their ever-growing fan base of all-ages returning again and again for electrifying performances.

Susan Tedeschi and Derek Trucks pick the blues albums that are good for your health

“Things that are real, they tend to last," says Derek Trucks . "My dad would take me to see BB King , long before I was playing guitar, and he’d get chill-bumps on his arm and be like: ‘Look at this!’ That was how he would gauge a show. So from a very early age, that’s what was important. When you listened to music, you had to feel it.

“I remember, early on, hearing a few things and getting that feeling. The first music I really enjoyed was At Fillmore East and the Layla record, but also The Best Of Elmore James . There’s just a brutal honesty to it. Mainstream taste is never good. You’re pandering to an audience and in a lot of ways you’re dumbing it down.

"If everybody likes something, you’re probably not trying very hard. But there’s something about speaking the truth and playing with humanity. Blues crowds might dwindle, then get bigger, it comes and goes, but it’s always there. And those records are still great.”

Susan Tedeschi : “When I was little, my dad would play me Lightnin’ Hopkins and Mississippi John Hurt, a lot of that country folk-blues kinda vibe. And I liked it, but it wasn’t my main thing. But then when I graduated college, I had some friends running a blues jam and they asked me to come sing.

"So I started diving into the record stores and bought all these records by T-Bone Walker, Big Mama Thornton, Koko Taylor, Johnny ‘Guitar’ Watson. That’s when I started diving into the blues on a massive level. They just really got me hooked.

“And they also got me playing electric guitar: I didn’t really play anything other than acoustic until I started getting into the blues. It was an exciting time. That music was soulful and inspiring, and I was really angry that growing up, we didn’t have that kind of music on the radio.

"But I’ve realised since that what we’re spoon-fed on radio is kinda all the baloney, the weakest of the lot. So you have to search out the really great stuff, the really soulful stuff. People can relate to the blues. It moves them. It can help to heal you. I think the blues can be very beneficial on a medicinal level.”

The Allman Brothers Band – At Fillmore East (Capricorn, 1971)

Derek : “This was always playing in my house and at the time, it was mythology to me, y’know, to hear these stories of my dad going AWOL from military school to go to the Fillmore shows. And it seemed like so far in the past. Y’know, Duane and Berry had already passed, the band weren’t playing or touring then, so it just seemed like this thing that existed a long time ago.

"To me, listening to that music growing up was like listening to the old blues stuff. It was something that happened back when music was good [compared to] all the shit that was going on at the time, in the late 80s. That stuff was the inspiration, y’know, the sound of Duane’s slide guitar.”

Jimmy Rogers – Chicago Bound (Chess, 1976)

Susan : “Of course, there’s all the albums that people say all the time, like BB King’s Live In Cook County Jail . But Chicago Bound does it for me. There’s a lot of stuff going on there: it’s not as easy as it sounds.

"The songs are just really authentic blues with great storytelling, and it has, like, all of the Chicago guys on it. You’ve got Robert Lockwood Jr, Little Walter, Willie Dixon , people like Buddy Guy coming in and out. It’s just an amazing record and it really captures a moment in time. It’s really got that Chicago flavour. Just real inspiring.”

Bobby Bland – Dreamer (Dunhill, 1974)

Derek : “I remember when I was riding around in a van at 14 years old with my first little portable CD player and Bobby Bland’s Dreamer was a record I listened to from top to bottom, over and over again. I think that record made me appreciate that you could actually make great-sounding blues records.

"Because I love the field recordings as much as anyone else, but there’s something nice about hearing Bobby’s voice recorded right. I still don’t know if anybody will ever better him. He was one of a kind.”

Big Mama Thornton – Hound Dog (Peacock, 1953 )

Susan : “This was huge for me. I never heard Big Mama Thornton until I was in my early twenties and I was like: ‘Oh my God, this woman is incredible.’ Here she is, singing tunes for Leiber and Stoller, during a time when it had to be really tough for her – y’know, a larger black woman, doing her own thing, playing drums and harmonica and just tearing it up.

"Her singing was on fire. She had so much energy and she could mix up all the genres of the blues. It wasn’t just like everything was a 12-bar and a shuffle. Y’know, she would swing, she would shuffle, she would rumba, whatever.”

Muddy Waters – Hard Again (Blue Sky, 1977)

Derek: “There’s just something about the feel of that Hard Again record. You can tell the spirit is right. And the sound of Muddy Waters ’ voice, recorded aggressively like that, especially on I Want To Be Loved. I remember, for a long time, wanting my guitar to sound like that. That was one of those albums I would just wear out [in the van].

"I just found it recently on vinyl and I put it on again, and I had that same feeling. And y’know, when you see a picture of Muddy, you just want to hang out with that dude. He’s got such a lovable-looking vibe. I’m sure he was much harder than that in real life."

Elmore James – King Of The Slide Guitar (Capricorn, 1992)

Susan : “This is a big one that really influenced both of us. It was a big box set that came out, and you couldn’t put it down. You had to listen to every single thing that Elmore James sang and played on it because his tone is amazing.”

Derek : “His thing was ahead of the curve. I remember that Capricorn Records reformed in the 90s, and they bought the rights to all the Elmore material and put out this box set. And after they released it, they started getting calls from people trying to book him. And it was like, ‘Er, you’re 30 years too late!’ [James died in 1963.] But his sound was so immediate and his music still hit people that way, like, ‘Shit, we gotta get this guy to our festival.”

Susan Tedeschi and Derek Trucks were speaking with Henry Yates. The next leg of Tedeschi Trucks Band's Dueces Wild tour kicks off on May 22.
