Do you have Star Trek questions you want to be answered but aren't trivia-related? We've got you covered!

Were these Star Trek terms taken from science or made up for the show?

Part of the show's iconic success is owed to its dedication to science facts. In many ways, Star Trek was right about many things, including their technology and use of general science. This made it a viral winner that was not only entertaining to watch but fascinating as well. Of course, just like the corbomite maneuver, some of it is made up.

Why should I watch Star trek?

Star Trek often gets compared to Star Wars, but this show is Sci-Fi for the non-thinker. If you like space, stories with interesting characters, action, and heart, yes, you should watch it. There are different Star Trek generations to choose from as well.

What is the scariest Star Trek episode? Why?

Of course, everyone is entitled to their own opinion, but most people agree that the scariest episode is "Schisms." If you don't remember that one, it's episode 5 from season 6, where everyone lacks sleep. And if insomnia doesn't scare you, there's a lot of suspense in this episode when the crew realizes that aliens have abducted them for an experiment!

On what occasion is the best time to play Star Trek quiz?

Play when you want to have fun and test your memory, or simply when you feel up for a challenge. This, or any of our trivia for that matter, is fun any time. Share a Spock fun fact with a friend and it will have you revisiting your love for the TV shows. Then ask if they can name Captain Kirk's commendations and see if they're a Trekkie just like you.

How To Pick The Best Star Trek Trivia Questions

Making your own ultimate Star Trek quiz can be a lot of fun, but getting the right mix of questions can be tricky. We've taken the hard work out and made it easy for you!

1. Order of Questions Matter

Chess pieces

via: Pexels / Markus Spiske

You want your players to enjoy themselves. You can do this by making them go on a rollercoaster ride with the difficulty levels of the questions. Order them in a way that doesn't put too many hard questions together. Give players a win now and then. You can also group specific series or movie questions, like ask a few Star Trek II questions in a row to get the momentum rolling.

2. Test Their Behind The Scenes Knowledge

The players may know their episodes, but do they know the show's history, the actors in real life, the scandals, things behind the camera? Behind-the-scenes questions are always interesting and add a bit of flair to the game. Likely, someone will learn something new.

3. Add A Visual Round

Three young people working on something on a computer

We haven't exactly done it here, but something that is always fun is pictures! You can search Star Trek online and add a visual round where you show photos of either scenes or characters where players either guess names or episodes or, better yet, which series it's from!

The Ultimate Star Trek Trivia Quiz

About This Quiz

Over 50 years after it first showed up on the scene and "Star Trek" is bigger than it ever was. With a series of movies, novels, comics, animation, video games, and of course the TV shows there's no end of Trek to get involved in if you're so inclined. It's one of the biggest pop culture phenomenons in history and helped usher in the age of super fandom that is so pervasive today. Trekkies were the "geeks" of old who took their fandom too seriously for more straight-laced people. Their dedication paved the way for Star Wars fans, for Harry Potter fans, for comic book fans, and Bronies, and every other hardcore group of fans who s just super into what they love.

Part of being a super-fan means knowing more than any regular fan could ever hope to know. Those random, little facts that relate to things a lot of people overlook or don't even consider paying attention to. That's the kind of fan you need to be if you have a hope of mastering the ultimate "Star Trek" trivia quiz. But if you're a dedicated Trek fan, if you know your Kazon from your Andorians and your chronoton particles from your dilithium crystals, set phasers to stun and take the quiz!

Khan

Khan Noonien Singh is arguably the most famous villain in Trek history. His namesake was a man named Kim Noonien Singh that was a pilot who served with Roddenberry in the Second World War. Roddenberry hoped that his old friend would hear the name on the show and the two would be able to reconnect.

Ferengi

The Ferengi were introduced early in the series run of "The Next Generation" with the intention of having them serve as major villains. Unfortunately, audiences thought the species was too goofy, and they sort of became comedy relief characters.

James Doohan

James "Scotty" Doohan was one of the soldiers at Juno Beach on D-Day. He was shot once in the chest, four times in the legs and a sixth bullet went through the middle finger of his right hand.

Mark Lenard

Mark Lenard was the first actor to play the Trek alien trinity. His most famous role was as Spock's father Sarek, but he also played a Romulan in one episode and a Klingon in "The Motion Picture."

Spot

Data's cat Spot endured quite a bit aboard the Starship Enterprise, including somehow getting pregnant in space thanks to the dozen male cats that also lived about Enterprise. Spot managed actually to outlive Data.

Worf

Lieutenant Worf has appeared in more episodes of any Trek franchise than any other character thanks to the fact he was added to the cast of "Deep Space Nine" for several seasons after his run on "The Next Generation" ended.

Captain Pike

Christopher Pike was the captain of the Enterprise in the pilot episode of "Star Trek" entitled "The Cage." The episode was remade later as part of the regular series, and Pike was brought back as a character in a wheelchair. He also returned on "Star Trek: Discovery" to be captain of the Discovery.

Lucille Ball

Lucille Ball was the head of Desilu studios in the early 1960s and was looking for a new show to get behind. She financed the Trek pilot thinking it was a show about traveling USO performers and then when the pilot bombed, she footed the bill for a second one, which worked out.

Transporters

Transporters aren't just a very cool idea; they were a practical tool for the production staff. The budget would have been strained if they had to keep using effects shots of shuttles landing on alien planets, but the transporter made moving around much easier.

Bat'leth

The Klingon bat'leth has appeared in around 30 episodes of Trek series and movies. Real-life replicas have been classified as weapons and have, in fact, been used to commit several crimes in the past.

Vulcans

Vulcans were the first major warp-capable species in the Trek universe having mastered the technology in what, by human time, would have been the 9th century BC. Humans didn't develop it until the 21st century AD.

Tiberius

James Tiberius Kirk was presumably named in honor of the second Roman emperor who took over after Augustus. The 2009 movie states that Tiberius came from Kirk's paternal grandfather but, you know, he probably got it from the emperor.

Nausicaan

According to the "Next Generation" episode "Tapestry," in the year 2327, Jean-Luc Picard got into a bar fight with a Nausicaan who ended up stabbing him in the chest, resulting in the artificial heart.

Excelsior

Sometimes between the events of "Star Trek V: The Final Frontier" and "Star Trek VI: The Undiscovered Country," Sulu becomes the captain of the USS Excelsior. The ship was supposed to have a transwarp drive that could reach speeds of warp 14.

Porthos

Captain Archer's dog was named Porthos after one of the Three Musketeers. He was a beagle who apparently had a real penchant for cheese even though it wasn't necessarily good for him.

Geneviève Bujold

Geneviève Bujold was cast in 1994 as Captain Nicole Janeway. The character named was changed to Kathryn after Bujold quit within two days citing the demanding production schedule as the reason.

Majel Barrett

Majel Barrett played "Number One" in "The Cage," essentially filling the same role Spock would later fill for Kirk. Barrett would go on to play many characters over the years on Trek, including the voice of the computer and the mother of Deanna Troi (not to mention marrying series creator Gene Roddenberry.)

Tinnitus

Nimoy and Shatner both suffered ear damage in the form of tinnitus when a special effects explosion went off too close to them. Shatner actually became a spokesperson for tinnitus and has helped others deal with the issue for years.

Lt. Leslie

Actor Eddie Paskey played Lieutenant Leslie. He managed to appear in 57 episodes of the original series and was named Conner in one and just called "crewman" in another. He was a security officer, a helmsman and an engineer. He even died in an episode but was back in the next episode with no explanation.

The X-Men

Back in 1996, the X-Men and the crew of the USS Enterprise met in the appropriately named "Star Trek/X-Men" crossover. The X-Men travel through a dimensional rift in pursuit of the villain Proteus and fight him with the help of the Enterprise. There was also a sequel in which the X-Men meet the crew of Picard's Enterprise.

$48,000

Picard's Ressikan flute went up for auction with some other prop at Christie's and was expected to fetch about $300. The flute, which was a prop and not even playable, ended up selling for $48,000.

The Terran Empire

The Terran Alliance is the Mirror Universe equivalent of the United Federation of Planets. They represent the opposition to Federation ideals and are rather xenophobic and war-like. They also seem to love goatees.

4

Jeri Ryan was not into the character Seven of Nine at first and rejected the role four separate times. It was only after repeated attempts by producer Jeri Taylor to get her on board did she finally relent.

Orion

The Orion race featured fairly prominently in "The Original Series" as well as "Enterprise" but didn't show up very much in any of the other series or films. The JJ Abrams reboot movies did include a female Orion character as a bit of a nod to Captain Kirk's playboy past.

Jeri Ryan

Jeri Ryan passed out not once but twice because her costume was fitted incorrectly. When she passed out the second time and had to have a nurse give her oxygen, producers finally decided to fix the problem.

Constitution

NASA was going to commission their shuttle the "Constitution" until a massive letter-writing campaign from Trek fans convinced them to slap the name "Enterprise" on it.

Patrick Stewart

Patrick Stewart never expected "the Next Generation" to last very long. He planned to film a few months of episodes and then head back to England and do some more stage work. He apparently didn't unpack his bags for six weeks.

No one knows

You may not remember Lieutenant Bobby who appeared in 12 episodes of the original series, but you're in good company — no one else remembers him either. The name of the actor who played him has been lost to time.

Eddie Murphy

Eddie Murphy wanted a role in "Star Trek IV" and producers had a role prepared for him. After reading the part, Murphy was not impressed and turned it down. He filmed the movie "The Golden Child" instead.

Chiropractor

The original uniforms on "The Next Generation" were one-piece jumpsuits designed to be a size too small so they'd be extremely form-fitting on the actors. Word is no one enjoyed wearing them, but it was Patrick Stewart's chiropractor who suggested that wearing them continually would lead to permanent injuries, so they switched to two-piece uniforms.

Shades of Grey

"Shades of Grey" was the result of a budget issue with Paramount forcing producers to stick to their season budget after already overspending on several episodes. The result was a clip show that used scenes from previous episodes and took three days to film. It is the lowest-ranked episode of all Trek episodes.

James Doohan2

In "The Original Series," all the Klingons speak English. Klingon isn't heard until "the Motion Picture," and actor James Doohan helped develop it before a linguistics expert actually developed it into a real, speakable language.

Discovery

Majel Barrett-Roddenberry was part of nearly every single Trek series. She appeared as Nurse Chapel in "TOS," M'Ress in "The Animated Series," Lwaxana Troi on "TNG" and "DS9," the computer voice on "TNG," "DS9," "Voyager," and "Enterprise." However, Barrett passed away in 2008, and her voice is not featured on "Discovery."

Livingston

Livingston, the lionfish, was a part of the background of Picard's ready room for pretty much the entire duration of the show. When Edward Jellico took command of the Enterprise, he ordered Livingston removed.

DeForest Kelly

Dr. McCoy DeForets Kelly had no contact with William Shatner for two years. According to Shatner, Kelly told him that his pet chihuahua Emily ran into a sprinkler head and died. The story made Shatner laugh and that ruined their friendship for two years.

8

Jeffrey Combs has played eight different characters in Trek history. He auditioned for the role of Riker but has appeared on "DS9" as Tiron, Brunt, Weyoun, Kevin Mulkahey, and a nameless holosuite character. He would later appear on "Voyager" as Penk and then on "Enterprise" as Krem and the Andorian Shran.

Galaxy Quest

"Galaxy Quest" was voted the 7th best Trek film, which is pretty ironic because "Galaxy Quest" is not a Trek film at all. The comedy movie starred Tim Allen and Sigourney Weaver, and was a satire of sci-fi shows, in particular, "Star Trek," but it's very popular with fans.

Kim Cattrall

Kim Cattrall played Valeris in "Star Trek VI: The Undiscovered Country." A photographer shot a roll of film of her on set wearing nothing but her Vulcan ears. Leonard Nimoy was not amused and had the entire roll of the film destroyed.

Jesus

Believe it or not, but in an early draft of the script, Captain Kirk was scripted to fight an alien that had taken on the appearance of Jesus. It was set to be a full-on fistfight with Kirk beating up the Messiah. You can guess why they axed that idea.

The Wrath of Khan

"Star Trek II: The Wrath of Khan" featured the first-ever CG sequence in films. It's the scene in the movie during which the Genesis Device is deployed and is shown destroying and then terraforming an entire planet.

20 Enterprising Facts About Star Trek

On September 8, 1966, Gene Roddenberry's galaxy spanning Star Trek saga debuted on NBC and helped transform sci-fi television from tired stereotypes into a genre rich with multi-layered drama, ethnically diverse characters, and real world issues. While it wasn't a big hit at the time, Star Trek eventually developed a loyal following that continued through an animated series, the long-running film franchise, and other live-action television series from the late 1980s onward. The show sometimes hired iconic sci-fi writers including Richard Matheson, Robert Bloch, Theodore Sturgeon, and Harlan Ellison (who won a Hugo Award for his episode, " City On The Edge Of Forever "), while Isaac Asimov developed a friendship with Roddenberry.

To commemorate this momentous occasion, let's look back at the groundbreaking series, during which the crew of the Enterprise journeyed on far-flung peacekeeping and rescue missions, answered distress calls on distant planets, and faced confrontations with warmongering aliens. There has been plenty written about this iconic show, but there always seems to be something new to learn.

1. Captain Pike preceded Captain Kirk.

The unaired pilot “The Cage” (which finally debuted on home video in 1986) featured an almost entirely different cast and crew, with Mr. Spock being the lone holdover on the bridge when the classic team appeared in the first official episode. Jeffrey Hunter ( The Searchers ) starred as Captain Christopher Pike, who gets abducted by telepathic aliens for psychological experiments involving a human woman. The original pilot was actually pretty good, but the cast lacked the same warmth and diversity that would ultimately emerge. When the studio rejected the original pilot—allegedly for being too cerebral and lacking in action—creator Gene Roddenberry sought to make another, but Hunter chose to move on to other projects. In the end, it was good that NBC rejected the original pilot, because the show was revamped into something much stronger.

2. Captain Pike returned for two episodes and the Star Trek movie reboot.

Several episodes in, the producers of Star Trek created a two-part episode called “The Menagerie” that utilized much of the original pilot. Mr. Spock was taking a now battle-scarred and disfigured Captain Pike back to the planet Talos IV (which was off limits to Federation vessels) for unknown reasons, and he would not reveal why until he seized control of the Enterprise and faced a court-martial. It was a clever and cost-effective way to reuse the unaired material and craft a new storyline. In J.J. Abrams' 2009 movie reboot, writers Roberto Orci and Alex Kurtzman brought back Pike (played by Bruce Greenwood) as Kirk’s superior officer and mentor on his first mission in space. It was a nice nod to the original series.

3. Star Trek ’s original number one was a woman.

In the original pilot, Gene Roddenberry’s girlfriend and future wife, Majel Barrett, was Kirk’s first officer (who still had to deal with the Captain’s presumptions about women on the bridge). Test audiences allegedly did not like her character because they thought she was too pushy and tried to be like the men, but modern audiences would not think of any of those things. When Pike was kidnapped, she led a mission to the planet to rescue him and proved herself to be a capable leader, but this was about a year before the women's liberation movement began gestating in America. The Star Trek universe finally got its first female captain with Captain Kathryn Janeway in Star Trek: Voyager , which aired between 1995 and 2001.

4. Majel Barrett Roddenberry worked on every Star Trek series.

Majel Barrett Roddenberry returned in many episodes of the original series to play Nurse Christine Chapel, who had unrequited romantic feelings toward Mr. Spock. She played a more nurturing character, but did not have the command duties of her original role. Following that, Barrett Roddenberry—who has been called “The First Lady Of Star Trek ”—had roles in every Star Trek series, playing Nurse Chapel, Lt. M'Ress, and other characters on Star Trek: The Animated Series ; Lwaxana Troi and the voice of the Enterprise Computer on Star Trek: The Next Generation ; and the computer voices on Deep Space Nine , Voyager , and Enterprise . She also appeared as Dr. Chapel in Star Trek: The Motion Picture and as Commander Chapel in Star Trek IV: The Voyage Home , and she provided voice work to other films (including the 2009 reboot) and various video games. After her husband died in 1991, Barrett Roddenberry served as executive producer on two series he had created: Earth: Final Conflict (1997-1999) and Andromeda (2000-2005). She passed away in 2008, but not before recording—you guessed it—the Starfleet Computer voice for J.J. Abrams's 2009 movie reboot.

5. Kirk had a dark past before Star Trek.

Prior to venturing into space and encountering all sorts of intergalactic nemeses like the Romulans, Klingons, and the superhuman Khan, William Shatner appeared in a variety of dark film and television projects. In Roger Corman’s underrated film The Intruder , he played a racist agitator in a Southern town who pushes things too far. In Incubus , a film shot entirely in the Esperanto language , he played a good-hearted man with whom a succubus falls in love, angering her sister and setting about retribution. His appearance as a man terrified of a gremlin on the wing of a plane in an episode of The Twilight Zone is famous, but he also made a turn in possibly the best horror TV episode ever, “The Grim Reaper” on Thriller , as a man who warns his aunt that the previous owners of the portrait of the titular character, which she now owns, have died violently.

6. Star Trek ’s Spock has greenish skin, but it was originally meant to be red.

While Spock’s skin has a slight green tint to it, the original plan was to give him red skin. But back in the mid- to late 1960s, a majority of households still had black and white televisions, so his skin would appear very dark when viewed on their sets. In one early episode, however, Spock looked really green. Someone messed up the color palette that day. One wonders if the chance to see the shows in color during their subsequent syndicated runs helped lure new viewers and give excited longtime fans the chance to re-watch the episodes in a way they had never seen them before.

7. William Shatner and Leonard Nimoy both got tinnitus on the set of Star Trek .

William Shatner and Leonard Nimoy present the award for "King of Zing / Queen of Quip" at the 2005 TV Land Awards in Santa Monica, California.

After an explosion on the set of one of the Star Trek films, both stars developed tinnitus, a ringing or buzzing in the ears than is often permanent and can be debilitating for some sufferers. After seeking help all across the country, Shatner learned to deal with it through habituation by wearing a hearing device for a time that produced white noise to help him cope. He has helped others as well. "I’ve talked people down from suicide," Shatner told me in an interview for The Aquarian . "A famous musician got a hold of me cold. I didn’t know him. He knew I got it because I was the official spokesman for tinnitus at one period, and I talked him down and encouraged him to do habituation, you know, the white sound, because when I was asked when I first got it how it affected my life from 1 to 10, it was 9 1/2. Now I don’t hear it except when you and I are talking about it."

8. A lot of Star Trek technology became reality.

If one looks at the original series, much of the technology being used ultimately became real. The communicators are like modern cell phones, the earpieces worn by Uhura and Spock are basically Bluetooth devices, the Universal Translators are echoed by the use of modern voice recognition software, tricorders have become the LOCAD-PTS , a portable biological lab used by NASA, and the use of interactive video screens (telepresence) is akin to current video conferencing. While Enterprise crew members recorded audio on hard-cased cassette tapes, they looked like soon-to-be modern floppy discs, which are now outdated in our digital era.

9. There have been more than 125 Star Trek -related video games.

Since 1971, more than 125 video games based on or inspired by the Star Trek series have been created, beginning with a text game written in BASIC in 1971, a standup arcade game in 1972, and later early computer and gaming systems like the Commodore 64 and Atari 5200 through to modern PS3 and Xbox 360 consoles. Many of the titles are quite colorful, like The Kobayashi Alternative , Klingon Honor Guard , and Delta Vega: Meltdown on the Ice Planet . It would probably be hard to collect them all at this point—or to be able to play them, unless one owns all the various video game platforms required—but perhaps someone has.

10. Star Trek ’s Vulcan salute is actually a Hebrew blessing.

funny star trek trivia

Leonard Nimoy did not create the Vulcan salute that means "Live Long and Prosper" out of thin air for the season two opener "Amok Time," which was the first time we got to see Spock among his people on Vulcan. It was actually borrowed from something he had witnessed as a child when he was attending a service at an Orthodox Jewish synagogue with his family.

"Five or six guys get up on the bimah, the stage, facing the congregation," Nimoy told the Yiddish Book Center in 2014. "They get their tallits over their heads, and they start this chanting—I think it's called duchening —and my father said to me, 'Don’t look.' So everyone’s got their eyes covered with their hands or they've got their tallit down over their faces ... And I hear this strange sound coming from them. They’re not singers, they were shouters. And dissonant. It was all discordant … it was chilling. I thought, 'Whoa, something major is happening here.' So I peeked. And I saw them with their hands stuck out from beneath the tallit like this [ does salute with both hands ] towards the congregation. Wow. Something really got hold of me. I had no idea what was going on, but the sound of it and the look of it was magical.”

The hand gesture represents the Hebrew letter Shin, which represents the word Shaddai , a name for God. It looks like a lot of people have been blessing each other without knowing it.

11. Star Trek ’s Kirk/Spock connection continued in real life.

The bond that Captain Kirk and Mr. Spock enjoyed throughout their long onscreen association was also echoed by William Shatner and Leonard Nimoy's off-camera relationship. It's interesting to note that while Spock seemed like the more isolated member of the crew who needed that human connection with Kirk, in real life Nimoy was an important person for his co-star. In a 2016 interview with The Aquarian , Shatner admitted that he never had had a close, intimate friendship with anyone before then. "I had that with Leonard, and that was the only time I had it," he confessed. "I envied it for the longest time, achieved it, then the book [ Leonard: My Fifty-Year Friendship with a Remarkable Man ] continues on. It’s a very interesting aspect of life, developing a friendship. Not the 'Let’s go get a beer' friendship, but deep, deep down, 'Here’s my problem, I need your help.'"

12. In a way, Star Trek was the original Buffy The Vampire Slayer .

Despite not really having many ass-kicking women on the original show, Star Trek was the predecessor to Buffy the Vampire Slayer , Angel , and like-minded shows that were not ratings toppers, but which hit a key demographic effectively every week. When Roddenberry's show was canceled after just three seasons, the advertising people at NBC allegedly complained to programming executives because, while the show was not highly rated, they were reaching the target audience they wanted. That statement is supported by the success that the series experienced in off-network syndication, especially since the show's three seasons (1966-1969) were one shy of what was generally required for daily syndication, and the emergence of the first Star Trek convention in January 1972. Today, a show like Star Trek would have likely lasted at least twice as long.

13. One of Bones's signature Star Trek lines was taken from a 1933 movie.

"I'm a doctor, not a bricklayer!" Bones was always making a variation on that gripe when asked to ascertain or do something outside of his medical expertise, and it is one of many Star Trek lines that has become a permanent part of pop culture lexicon. However, the idea originated with a 1933 film called The Kennel Murder Case , which starred William Powell and Mary Astor. In the film, the character of Dr. Doremus utters these quips: "I'm a doctor, not a magician." "I'm a doctor, not a detective." "I'm the city butcher, not a detective." Bones McCoy had many variations to offer throughout the Star Trek TV and film series, and he certainly made the gag his own.

14. Star Trek has a connection to Stanley Kubrick.

Before he appeared as an astronaut on the Jupiter mission sequence of Stanley Kubrick’s classic sci-fi film 2001: A Space Odyssey , Gary Lockwood appeared in the episode " Where No Man Has Gone Before ," which was the third episode of season one. His character attained godlike powers that made him drunk with power and posed a grave threat not just to the Enterprise , but to the galaxy itself.

15. Star Trek strived for ethnic and gender diversity, but the women still had to look sexy.

funny star trek trivia

While Gene Roddenberry strived to push boundaries as much as he could, women were still sexed up for the show. Consider that Lieutenant Uhura, Yeoman Rand, Nurse Chapel, Dr. Helen Noel, and other female members of the Enterprise crew all wore mini-dresses. Further, close-ups of the female crewmembers were given a slightly softer focus to make them look dreamier, which was a common Hollywood trick at that time. While some of the female characters were strong, others—like Lt. Marla McGivers in the "Space Seed" episode—were rather frail when it came to men. Things got better for women in later Star Trek series, but then they came about in more enlightened times.

16. Many of the effects in the original Star Trek series were upgraded for HD broadcast and release in 2006.

When Star Trek: The Original Series was being prepared for its initial HD broadcast (and subsequent HD-DVD release) for the fall of 2006, Paramount decided to take a chance and upgrade all of the sequences involving the Enterprise flying and any background shots of space or environmental matte paintings. While some fans (and Leonard Nimoy , at least at first) thought this was heresy, visual effects producer Michael Okuda—who had been involved with the franchise since Star Trek V: The Final Frontier —made sure that the new CGI sequences and backgrounds were integrated smoothly with the old footage.

17. Mark Lenard was a Romulan, a Klingon, and a Vulcan on Star Trek .

Actor Mark Lenard had a dramatic visage that lent itself well to space opera, and he was the first actor in the franchise’s history to have played members of three different alien races. In the season one episode "Balance Of Terror," he played the Captain of an ultimately doomed Romulan vessel that has invaded Federation territory. In the opening to Star Trek: The Motion Picture , he plays a Klingon commander on a doomed ship caught in the path of the mysterious cloud that is wiping out anything in its path. But his biggest role in the franchise was portraying Spock’s father, Sarek, in the second season episode "Journey To Babel," the Animated Series episode "Yesteryear," and in the third, fourth, and sixth Star Trek films.

18. Malcolm McDowell received death threats after killing Captain Kirk onscreen.

McDowell played the charmingly misanthropic droog Alex DeLarge in Stanley Kubrick’s A Clockwork Orange , but he was on the receiving end of Star Trek fans’ wrath when his character, Dr. Tolian Soran, killed Captain Kirk in Star Trek: Generations— the first film born from the Star Trek: The Next Generation series that bridged the two series onscreen. In 2010, McDowell admitted that he was shocked at the vitriol of devout Trekkies—and that he actually received death threats.

"I didn’t take it seriously," McDowell told me . "The studio took it seriously. I suppose they had to because they didn’t want a lawsuit. They assigned two detectives to come with me to New York to do the press. It was a complete waste of time and quite funny. I kept telling the guys to go home, and they were going to stay outside my room the whole night at the Carlyle Hotel. I went for a walk, and they came with me. I literally came out of the Carlyle at 10 o’clock at night. I looked this way and that way, and there wasn’t one person on the street. Not one. I went, 'Wow, this is some death threat.' I said, 'I feel embarrassed that nobody’s tried to kill me, for Christ’s sake! I feel like I’m letting the detectives down.'"

19. Star Trek ’s episodes are not in chronological order.

If one lists the stardates for each episode, it is soon apparent that the series is not told in order—not that it was intended that way, since the episodes of the original series were not always broadcast in production order, leaving some fans to scratch their heads. Roddenberry improvised an explanation that worked at the time. "I came up with the statement that 'this time system adjusts for shifts in relative time which occur due to the vessel's speed and space warp capability. It has little relationship to Earth's time as we know it. One hour aboard the U.S.S. Enterprise at different times may equal as little as three Earth hours. The star dates specified in the log entry must be computed against the speed of the vessel, the space warp, and its position within our galaxy, in order to give a meaningful reading,'" he told The Making Of Star Trek author Stephen E. Whitfield. "Therefore stardate would be one thing at one point in the galaxy and something else again at another point in the galaxy. I'm not quite sure what I meant by that explanation, but a lot of people have indicated it makes sense. If so, I've been lucky again, and I'd just as soon forget the whole thing before I'm asked any further questions about it."

20. William Shatner pissed off Star Trek fans when he hosted Saturday Night Live .

William Shatner has done it all.

While the thespian with the famously quirky cadence has embraced his Star Trek legacy, he has not let it define his life since he has become known for other roles in other shows as well, most notably T.J. Hooker and Boston Legal . But back in the 1980s, when the movie franchise was a hit and conventions kept growing, the befuddled star decided to make a statement about the ardent fandom that he had not yet understood by doing a skit when he hosted Saturday Night Live on December 20, 1986.

In the sketch (which you can watch above), Shatner played himself attending a convention of newly renamed "Trekkers" and, once he started getting ultra nerdy questions, he literally told the crowd to get a life. "You're turned an enjoyable little job that I did as a lark for a few years into a colossal waste of time," he griped. "I mean, how old are you people? What have you done with yourselves?" Some fans did not appreciate the joke. In 1999, Shatner penned a book called Get A Life! , which examined the cult of Star Trek fandom, and was turned into a documentary in 2011. It seems like Kirk decided to appreciate his followers after all.

A version of this story ran in 2018; it has been updated for 2021.

  • Mr. Plinkett Reviews
  • Best of the Worst
  • Half in the Bag
  • Rich's introduction. Rich: I'm Rich Evans, and I was once kicked out of an all you can eat buffet.
  • The trio giving a standing ovation over the Star Wars: The Last Jedi logo. The applause and Mike's exclamation have become a Memetic Mutation among the RLM community. Mike: YOU JUST KEEP HITTING THE FUCKING HOME-RUNS DISNEY!!!!!
  • Jay breaks character and panics when Rich, pretending to overdose on Batman aspirin, nearly knocks over expensive camera equipment when he falls over. Everybody stops what they are doing for a Beat , then Rich's BB-8 watch goes off, causing an "Everybody Laughs" Ending .
  • Mike, while over-enthusiastically nodding in agreement with Rich, headbutts his microphone. He holds character for a second before nearly breaking and is visibly choking back his laughter while holding his newly aching head. The shot then quickly cuts to Jay who is just barely holding it together better.
  • The discussion on Spider-Man: Homecoming : Rich: Did the check clear? Do I like it? note  Becomes Hilarious in Hindsight when the Half in the Bag episode from Homecoming came and Rich had nothing but good things to say about it
  • Two instances of Kayfabe getting broken. The first with Rich having a meltdown and turning back to normal after a jumpcut, and the other with Mike remembering the ending of Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice where Superman dies having forgotten about it, before correcting himself and pretending it was such a memorable scene and ending.
  • Nerd Coffin, a decorated coffin that can also stream the latest movies to your grave and you can use it to store your Funko Pop and other nerd memorabilia.
  • Rich getting quite excited when describing the Star Wars: The Last Jedi trailer he just watched, praising the visuals, action and intrigue of the movie — but then bringing up the "iconic weapon" getting smashed, and gushing over Thor and the Hulk . When the guys correct him and mention the real trailer they're talking about (in which almost nothing happened) , Rich looks absolutely crushed.
  • Due to their endless shilling, the guys never actually get to discuss the trailer at all, ending with a promo code to get discounted tickets for Harrison Ford's Nerd Coffin-sponsored funeral (complete with a picture of a crashed small aircraft) . Mike then ad-libs "a quick shout out to Stan Lee, who is [somehow] still alive". Jay and Rich lose it.
  • Jay breaks character when Rich deliberately misapplies the butter on the Death Star Popcorn Maker, causing it to not only spill all over the table, but cause the appliance to catch fire.
  • Rich's reaction to Chewbacca with an odd furry creature, wondering if they were crossing over Star Wars with Caddyshack . Another picture is suggested to be a crossover with Bill & Ted's Excellent Adventure . Rich theorizes those creatures are the offspring of ET The Extraterrestrial and the Sadness Turtle from The Neverending Story .
  • The crew feigning shock at the "bold" decision to make an Obi-Wan standalone story, then stating Darth Maul will return with each half having its own robot half, causing Mike to completely corpse . (One image has R2-D2's head on Darth Maul's legs.) Rich: Star Wars is really about having a top-half Darth Maul robot and bottom-half Darth Maul robot, fighting each other with twenty lightsabers while Obi-Wan is stuck in the middle.
  • "I'm Jay, and even though I was on Screen Junkies once, I guarantee I am not a dirtbag. " (As he says this, a picture of Jay looking extremely awkward and uncomfortable standing next to Andy Signore, the dirtbag in question, on the Screen Junkies set is shown.)
  • Rich tells Jay he isn't going far back enough, and proceeds to list The Em*** *** **ck . Mike : ... that's right, Jay.
  • When Mike goes off on a tear about looking forward to future Star Wars films, Rich tries to remind him of other films: Rich : (awkwardly) Don't forget about Infinity War Twoooooo ... Thanos in the hooooouse ...
  • Mike does this again when Jay says the same thing about the Justice League.
  • Jay comments about how excited he is about Justice League (2017) , definitely not reading from a script in the process .
  • Near the end of the episode, Mike mentions how, when they all recorded their reactions to The Last Jedi 's new trailer, Rich left his camera on as he did his reaction . Rich reacts in horror. Cut to footage of Rich, in a Darth Vader mask, using a Porg toy to masturbate .
  • "And I'm Rich Evans, and I love all things pop culture. Especially Porgs. I FUCKING LOVE PORGS!
  • Jay teases the first word of Episode IX, saying "it's 'it's'." Rich and Mike think he's got Tourette's for a moment.
  • The many fake spoilers, such as describing the porgs' teamwork moment of making a ladder to reach the lightsaber, or Snoke getting off his throne and stepping on a porg so hard that "we could see its guts were purple" .
  • The crew panic over them spoiling Star Wars: The Last Jedi before the embargo date of December 12, 2017. (The video aired on the 11th.) Jay : HURRY! SHUT OFF THE FUCKING CAMERAS!
  • This quip from Mike after Rich screams "AIIIIDS" for 11 seconds straight. It causes Rich to completely lose it laughing and Jay to corpse. Mike : Wow, Rich. You held onto that "aids" longer than Magic Johnson!
  • Their reactions to the Sony/Marvel split: Mike : So apparently the arrangement that Sony had with Marvel to allow Spidey in the MCU had an expiration date. And just like spoiled milk, a lot of fans are sour on this idea ! Rich : Damn straight. Jay : That's right, Mike. This is the first thing I can say " isn't very cool." Rich : FUCK THEM!!! Jay : How dare anyone cross Disney. Rich : FUCK THEM!!! Jay : I don't know what's going to happen with Tom Holland but I'm so fffucking angry! Rich : Will they go back to Andrew Garfield ? Mike : I don't know , Rich! WE DON'T KNOW! BUT FUCKING GODDAMMIT WE'RE FUCKING MAD ABOUT THIS! Jay : FUCK YOU, SONY! Rich [ loud enough for it to echo around the studio ]: FUCK OFF!!! [ Mike and Jay collapse into laughter before quickly cutting away ] Rich : HOW FUCKING DARE YOU MAKE A SENSIBLE FINANCIAL MOVE!
  • Other highlights include Rich claiming to have been the subject of two episodes: "My Kid Won't Stop Eating" and "My Husband is a Fat Slob" , "My Fiance Won't Marry Me Until I Stop Stripping", "Jerry Joins the Homeless", "They Stole My Husband's Eyes", "I Woke Up in the Morgue", "I Turned My Head And My Child Is Dead", "The Lord Has Ruined My Life", "A Ghost Threw Me Down the Stairs", the double whammy of "I Worshipped Satan at Age Six" and "Child Alcoholics", "Phone Sex Killed My Husband", "I Do Drugs At Church", a two-parter on "Women Who Hate Black Men" followed by "Who is Jesse Jackson", "My Parrot Runs My Life", "I'm Seven Months Pregnant and I Can't Stop Stripping", and the 2018 gem "Leaving Baby Mama For a Stripper".
  • Rich's exploding in laughter upon learning that Jerry Springer had a sex scandal that was found out when it turned out he paid a prostitute with a check.
  • Rich comparing the show to Exploding Varmints .
  • Mike and Jay's horrified reaction to learning the show ran until 2018 . To date, the Jerry Springer Show has filmed over 987,000 episodes. Jerry has no plans to stop any time soon.
  • The episode ending with Rich getting up from his chair to attack Mike.
  • The ending of part one of their A Nightmare on Elm Street reviews has them reenacting a scenario in which Freddy forces Jay to write an episode of Star Trek: Picard . Jay: (as Freddy) WE'VE GOT SOME STUDIO NOOOOTES!
  • Discussing if the Predators we see in the movies are elite, rich members of their species: Jay: They're like... Rich: Weekend warriors! Mike: Literally! (Jay and Rich chuckle) There's Predators back home, they wear suits... Rich: Monocles, top hats... Jay: and on weekends, they go to other planets and hunt things! Rich: (in a snooty voice) "I'm ready for the big hunting trip this weekend, we're going to Alpha Centauri IV..." (Jay laughs) Mike: "Make sure to wear your monster costume!" (Rich laughs) Jay: these costumes are sort of like a joke to them... Mike: "It really scares the natives!" Rich: "It's traditional, we have to wear them."
  • The crew notice Harrison Ford 's boredom in the role of Han Solo, and say he didn't want anything to do with the series anymore. Rich: (as Ford) I have to be second fiddle to Mark Hamill ? Fuck that.
  • Even more disinterested is Alec Guinness , and they laugh about how he puts no effort into the role, as Ben's ghost sits on a log while wearing slippers .
  • When C3PO is recapping the events of the first two movies to the Ewoks. Mike: He explains how Lando made inappropriate sexual advances towards Princess Leia. (Rich guffaws) Mike: (as C3PO ) Una Lando Calrissian ut-ah-taw-too-taw rapist!
  • When the Rebels blow up the shield generator. Rich: (as Han Solo tells everyone to flee) Let's move! There's no way we can get far enough away to look like we survive this horrible blast we're going to see in a second! (The dish explodes) Rich, Mike, Jay: (screaming) OH MY GOD!!! Rich: (gleefully) Han Solo is dead ! (they all chortle) Oh, no, wait, he's fine! He's not even surrounded by fire, or debris! (Jay giggles) Mike: He ran eleven feet away. That, that, oh my G—... that explosion was bigger than a continent . Rich: They saw that explosion and they said, "Oh my God. We've got to cut to a shot of Han Solo standing up!"
  • Later he comments after Superman punches the Flash through the stone that Superman can't even let them be honored in death.
  • Mike and Jay learning about Gorilla Grodd.
  • Their reaction to the post-credits scene , on how Lex Luthor escaped Arkham and replaced him with another bald inmate. Rich: He escaped from jail because he placed a crazy man in his spot who is also bald. They didn't know the difference because all bald men look the same. (Jay laughs.) Mike: He just faced the wall the entire imprisonment? Rich: Nobody took a closer look! (Jay laughs even harder.) Rich: That guy's been standing there for... for a whole month . Mike: Rich... is that... is that really what just happened or are you joking? Jay: I think that's what... we're obviously watching this without sound but that's what's going on. Mike: Oh my god...
  • In the trailer for the commentary: Jay: But most importantly, we talk about the original ending to Halloween 6 , and how Michael Myers was stopped by Paul Rudd and some magic stones. Mike: But wait, did that really happen? Jay: That was the original ending, but they reshot it. Mike: Hmmn. They should have reshot the whole fuckin' film!
  • From a discussion about whether children would get anything out the movie: Mike: I'll tell you this real quick. Jim took his six-year-old [to the film]... Jay: Canadian Jim? Mike: ...And he asked him what his favorite part of the movie was, and he said "When the little girl was given the stuffed R2D2 in bed". (Jay laughs) And he later found out that it was a Duracell ad that played before the movie. (Jay and Rich laugh)
  • When running the stream for December 9, 2012, the stream was shut down because of DMCA action after showing the chipmunks singing Lady Gaga's Bad Romance . If you hear anyone saying something about "Fuck DMCA and fuck the Chipmunks", now you know why.
  • In The Western Ore Musical , Flint Eastrock deciding to throw a rock at him and his gun away instead of just shooting Jones during a gun fight. It goes pretty much how you'd expect ... kind of .
  • They're also in stitches upon learning that the robots who built Vader's suit cut corners due to budget constraints at Palpatine's hospital imposed by Palpatine himself and tried to distract him from their shoddy work by making Vader's helmet very shiny. Rich: There's a brilliant story going on there.
  • Vader's suit is filled with so many And I Must Scream features that it serves as a source of pitiful amusement . Mike: (After reading about Vader's flawed senses) [I would] just fucking kill myself at that point.
  • And then there are facts about Vader's suit that are just plain ridiculous. Mike: "2-1B/DRX deliberately did not perform reconstructive cosmetic surgery to Vader's face, as it would be hidden behind the mask." Rich: Oh, okay. I'm sure Vader appreciated that. Mike: Hey, it's called the "Emperor Palpatine Surgical Reconstruction Center", not "Plastic Surgery Center". Rich: Emperor Palpatine doesn't want you to be as pretty as he is. Mike: "...And the ragged scars on his hairless scalp, which owed as much to what he endured on Mustafar, as to attempts at emergency transplants of hair follicles note  This part was actually made up by Mike. during his trip back to Coruscant." Rich: (Laughs) He's trying to get new hair!? Mike: "The monitoring panel beeped frequently and for no reason, the lights seeming to serve only as steady reminders of his vulnerability." Rich: It's designed to annoy him. Mike: "Additionally, the tall boots were a poor fit for his artificial feet." Rich: (Cracks up) The man can't even get shoes that fit! Mike: The guy can't catch a break!
  • Mike and Rich laugh so hard at Vader being unable to get a new suit due to "budgetary constraints" that they had to cut their description short. note  Mike actually made up the "budgetary restraints" part there.
  • Rich sums up his feelings about these facts pretty well. Rich: What I learned today is that at the end of Jedi when Darth Vader says, "It's too late for me now, take my mask off," he was lying. He just wanted to die.
  • The April Fool's re:View of Horse Ninja , sending up both early '90's Image comics and the cheesy quickie superhero TV movies.
  • All of the Contrived Coincidence ideas they come up with, like Han bumping into Luke at age five, or his original ship being Slave I, which is then stolen by Boba Fett.
  • After all the insanely idiotic plot ideas they come up with Rich gushes, "I had no interest in the movie before we did this, and now it's my Movie of the Year! I gotta see it!"
  • Mike predicting how Solo will meet Chewbacca... which turns out to be so close to what actually happens in the movie that you'd almost think the writers just lifted the idea wholesale from Mike.
  • The ultimate crowner though? During the actual HitB for Solo , Rich was the one who unironically enjoyed it the most.
  • Mike tells Rich who the scriptwriters are, and Rich immediately loses all hope in the movie:
  • After several minutes of buildup, Mike finally reveals his ultimate The Rise of Skywalker theory: "a horrible time travel story." Rich's reaction, as usual, is priceless.
  • During Mike and Rich's Star Trek: Picard episode 1 review, Mike covers his mouth in genuine surprise when Rich points out the Homoerotic Subtext the show seems to be building between Picard and Data even though, as they go on to point out, it contradicts things from the Next Generation (namely that Picard didn't care for Data as much as the new show makes it out). It just becomes part of Mike and Rich's theory that modern Star Trek writers don't know what they're writing.
  • It was followed by a "Coming Soon", revealing that a Mr. Plinkett review for Picard would be coming soon.
  • The opening of "Rich and Jay Talk About Cobra Kai ". Jay: Well Rich, are you ready to talk about a franchise revival, nostalgia-driven Soft Reboot that doesn't suck? Rich: I know! Jay: I just got done watching the first season of Picard ! (Rich's smile becomes a frown) Jay: Have you seen the show? Rich: I fucking hate you.
  • The winnings of the contest will go to a charity of Mike and Jay's choice. Jay's charity is Angel's Wings, an organization helping single, homeless mothers. Mike's choice of charity? savethedodo.org .
  • Rich almost says correct to an incorrect answer Jay gave because, by sheer coincidence, Jay gets the first syllable close to the right answer (it was about Curzon Dax, Jay guessed Kirk). Jay then tries to bullshit his way to being given the point by claiming Rich interrupted him before he could get the rest out. Mike for his part says he's impressed that Jay got that much right.
  • As the contest goes as expected, Mike notes that Jay personally is going to be the man responsible for bringing back the dodo bird, while Mike is gonna be personally responsible for the suffering of thousands of women and children.
  • At a certain point, Rich starts shouting "Correct!" as soon as Mike buzzes in and before he answers, causing Jay to laugh.
  • Jay just eventually gives up and starts throwing out what little Star Trek terminology he knows, plus a reference to Han Solo and Spider-Man when he buzzes in.
  • When Jay mocks Rich for saying false instead of incorrect, Rich pays him back later when Jay gets another answer wrong by aggressively telling him "false. Incorrect. Wrong. "
  • One of the questions Jay answers is what position Kira held in the Mirror Universe. Jay's answer: Missionary (causing Mike to crack up).
  • One of the questions is about the name of Data's cat:
  • The question about Janeway's preferred beverage.
  • Jay finally gets an easy question , but Rich cuts him off before he can finish answering, saying the round is over.
  • Rich's immediate reaction to seeing the game is to ask if this is something official that he wasn't told about.
  • Rich, upon inspecting a jar of Tums, finally admits he was wrong about the Tums festival line in Hollywood Cop .
  • Their sheer joy at realizing that the designer has edited the model on the Body Rap box to be the one and only Colin.
  • Voiceover recording, in which Mike records voices for a cat in a video game while admitting that he and Rich don't like cats but keep voicing them in cartoons anyway.
  • Poster framing, in which Rich forgets to take the protective film off of some of the framed posters in their lounge, Jay shows the audience Freddie Williams's sketches of the secret Dick The Birthday Boy photos, and Mike breaks a frame for Len Kabasinski's newest film poster.
  • Repurposing Nukie chunks, in which Mike, Rich, and Jay brainstorm what to do with the remnants of the tapes they shredded in the Nukie video. They end up melting them down and putting them in a silicone mold to make a giant VHS tape prop.
  • Prop unboxing, in which Mike hopes that they've been sent Ripley's flamethrower from Aliens , but only ends up unboxing several Baby Binks .
  • Redressing the Half in the Bag repair shop set.
  • Repairing their gremlin prop, who's gone through plenty of abuse over the years. They end up deciding to embed it in a coffee table...and then Rich promptly forgets and leaves the gremlin in a storage bin.

The Star Trek Episode Directly Inspired By Pulp Fiction

Posted: May 27, 2024 | Last updated: May 28, 2024

John Travolta and Samuel L. Jackson in Pulp Fiction (1994)

Ever since Quentin Tarantino passed on the opportunity to direct Star Trek 4, fans of this sci-fi franchise have made peace with the fact that we’ll never see what the visionary director could have done with our favorite characters. However, we do have the next best thing: an episode deeply inspired by the acclaimed director.

When then-showrunner Michael Piller was working on the Star Trek: Voyager episode “The Cloud,” he gave characters some fun dialogue tangents inspired by Pulp Fiction.

<p>Whether you’re a major Star Trek: Discovery fan or its biggest hater, you have to admit that one of the pleasures of earlier seasons is that we never knew exactly how an episode might wrap up. The crew might end up in a different universe or time-traveling to the far future, and we never knew when beloved allies like Booker or Ash Tyler would suddenly have a heel turn. </p><p>The fact that we never knew is my main point here: even when the season-long mystery arcs were boring or had awful resolutions (or, with The Burn, both), there was a novelty in a Star Trek show that wasn’t afraid to boldly go where no series had gone before in terms of surprises and twists. Now, however, Discovery seems to be following in Voyager’s vapor trails in giving us interesting, episodic content that always ends in the same way. Just as the Voyager crew would wrap up the day’s adventure and commence their voyage home, the Discovery crew wraps up today’s mystery and commences chasing Moll and L’ak.</p>

For this Star Trek/Pulp Fiction connection to make sense, you need to understand more about the episode in question. In “The Cloud,” the main plot involves Janeway investigating a strange nebula that could help power the replicators, which would help with crew morale and provide Janeway with her morning coffee fix. However, the crew ends up damaging the nebula before realizing it is a living being and committing themselves to healing the damage.

<p>Star Trek: Voyager introduced many creepy concepts over the years, but few are quite as skin-crawling (or should that be skin-removing?) as the phage. This was a disease that affected the Vidiians, forcing them to steal organs from others as a way of surviving. We always wondered where the heck the show’s writers came up with this freaky idea, and it turns out that it all goes back to the Bubonic Plague.</p>

A Script With A Problem

As far as Star Trek episodes go, this weird space plot doesn’t exactly scream “Quentin Tarantino,” so where does the Pulp Fiction connection come in? Showrunner Michael Piller had a reputation for taking unworkable scripts and producing great episodes. “The Cloud” was one of the scripts that needed his magic touch, but he quickly realized this script had a problem the size of the nebula.

<p>While she was a controversial addition to Star Trek: Voyager, it didn’t take long for Jeri Ryan’s Seven of Nine to become a fan-favorite addition to this Paramount franchise. She was such a fan-favorite that she became one of the best parts of Star Trek: Picard, especially in season three. </p>

Filled Time With Character-Building Conversations

Specifically, the veteran Trek guru realized that the big sci-fi story at the center of the plot was only going to take about 20 pages of script. That meant he would need to create another 35-40 pages to fill the episode out. Wisely, Piller leaned away from the space mystery of the week and created extra content focused on character-building conversations.

While Piller himself never mentioned the Tarantino connection, his fellow Star Trek writer Brannon Braga revealed the connection to Pulp Fiction. After mentioning how much Piller liked the film, Braga said of the script, “I think there’s a little bit of that in the way the characters talk to each other, going off in tangents.”

<p>Fortunately, these Star Trek conversational tangents are almost (if not quite) as captivating as those in Pulp Fiction. We watch Neelix dubiously take up the mantle of morale officer and Janeway go on a vision quest in order to find coffee. Most of all, though, we are introduced to Chez Sandrine, the French Bistro that makes Ten Forward look downright déclassé.</p><p>As fans, it’s fun to know that the best Star Trek writer in franchise history was inspired by a film as cool as Pulp Fiction. </p>

Introduced Chez Sandrine

Fortunately, these Star Trek conversational tangents are almost (if not quite) as captivating as those in Pulp Fiction. We watch Neelix dubiously take up the mantle of morale officer and Janeway go on a vision quest in order to find coffee. Most of all, though, we are introduced to Chez Sandrine, the French Bistro that makes Ten Forward look downright déclassé.

As fans, it’s fun to know that the best Star Trek writer in franchise history was inspired by a film as cool as Pulp Fiction.

<p>We know that at one point, Quentin Tarantino was keen to put his violently stylistic mark on this 23rd-century franchise. So why did his Star Trek film never happen? </p><p>To hear Mark L. Smith describe things, Tarantino eventually got cold feet because he began worrying about his Hollywood legacy. Smith claims the legendary director began worrying “that Star Trek could be my last movie, the last thing I ever do,” leading him to ask a simple question: “Is this how I want to end it?”</p>

Quentin Tarantino and Star Trek

This trivia, however,  can only scratch so much of our itch to see Quentin Tarantino himself get behind the director’s chair for Star Trek 4, and we’re still hoping that Paramount can make it happen. For a franchise hoping to make another big screen splash, he is probably the best director to make Trek mainstream once again.

In some ways, it’s fair to say Quentin Tarantino should be the ultimate inspiration for Star Trek: films ranging from Pulp Fiction to Once Upon a Time In Hollywood are successful studies in different genres revolving around very intimate themes. If Trek wants to thrive again, it won’t happen until they can follow in the director’s footsteps by telling stories as ambitious as they are personal.

Ultimate Guide to Baby Care Centers at Walt Disney World Resort

Lisa Mendillo

by Lisa Mendillo , Sr. Manager, Digital Integration

There is nothing quite as wonderful as experiencing the magic of Walt Disney World Resort through even the tiniest of eyes.

However, when those tiny eyes begin to cry and those little mouths quiver for food, where do you go to keep your little one happy, all while staying in the magic? Three words … Baby Care Centers !

Located within each of the four theme parks, the Baby Care Centers give families a dedicated space to take care of all of their baby’s and toddler’s needs in a welcoming, calming environment that really feels like home.

Once through the doors of the Baby Care Centers, guests will find spacious changing areas, comfortable seating, private nursing rooms (complete with rocking chairs and easy to access outlets), restrooms and TVs continually running Disney classic movies. That’s right, if there is a big brother or sister in tow, even they will enjoy a little down time here.

In addition to all the essential facilities for diaper changes and feedings, these well thought out Baby Care Centers also offer amenities such as water filter stations, sinks, bottle warmers and microwaves. And let’s not forget the highchairs!

Did you forget a bib? Perhaps you ran out of diapers? The Baby Care Centers have select essentials available for purchase. And did you know that these facilities are also the only location in the four theme parks where children’s medicines may be purchased?

The list of services all these centers have to offer goes on and on, but let’s take a moment and allow planDisney panelists Brent and Jennifer S . to show us all they have to offer as they tour all four Baby Care Centers at Disney World.

Wow, the Baby Care Centers really are so much more than a place to change a diaper! They are also a wonderful place for families to take a break and recharge.

Whether it’s for a nursing baby or a restless toddler, these facilities give everyone in the party a place to regroup, reset and get ready to delve back into the magic of their Disney vacation!
