Pokémon GO , likely the world's most recognizable augmented reality game , hosts a gigantic in-person event February 18-19 in Las Vegas. This "tour" celebrates Hoenn, the setting for the third generation of Pokémon games, Ruby and Sapphire.

As with each of the game's previous tours, Pokémon GO Tour Hoenn focuses on a particular Pokémon, elemental type, or pop culture moment tied to the franchise. For this event, legendary powerhouses Kyogre and Groudon will have access to their Primal forms — a process that allows them to revert back to their original designs which feature flowing lava and brighter patterns on Groudon's arms and Kyogre's fins.

Returning to a beloved region

At the start of the event, players can choose from two teams, Ruby or Sapphire. The former increases the presence of Primal Groudon Raids, and the latter Primal Kyogre. For the first time since Pokémon GO launched, players will finally get to encounter the Primal versions of these legendary Pokémon.

Along with access to Primal Reversion, the event will also showcase one of the most popular forms of Pokémon across its many games: shiny variants. These color-changed versions of Pokémon are coveted most by collectors for how rarely they spawn in the wild.

During GO Tour Hoenn, players also have the chance to encounter other exclusive Pokémon. That includes the legendary Eon Pokémon Latios and Latias, the ever elusive Kecleon (which can also be shiny) and several species of Pokémon with shiny chances across different habitats: Nincada and Bagon in the Blistering Sands Habitat, along with Absol and Beldum in the Eerie Mists Habitat. You can even nab a costumed Pikachu wearing Brendan and May's hats from the Sapphire and Ruby games.

The event will also feature new music from Junichi Masuda, The Pokémon Company's Chief Creative Fellow and programmer whose ties to the franchise reach back to its very first games.

It's an addition that Humberto Kam, Niantic's Director of Global Live Events, hopes resonates most with fans.

The GO Tour will introduce new stickers as well. Niantic hide caption

The GO Tour will introduce new stickers as well.

"We're totally nerding out about that, because as people walk in [to the event], I want people to hear those horns from Hoenn...it was a great place to draw inspiration from, not only for the nostalgia but also to put a different spin on things." Kam said the experience is also an attempt to bridge the gap between fans old and new to the world of Pokémon GO .

Kam shared that destination appeal is a significant metric for in-person events as players may want to participate in activities outside of the game. "As much as we love Pokémon GO , if I was going to the event, my wife might want to have something else to do," he added laughing.

"We did Kanto and Johto years prior, so this was next on the list but given that it's Hoenn, we knew we had to do it right," Kam said about the impact of Ruby and Sapphire and the plans for this year's GO Tour.

Familiar faces

Bringing Hoenn's iconic legends to the event was an ode to a generation beloved by players across the Pokémon community. "When we started talking about GO Tour for this year, we just went Primals, right? We're going to add Primals?'" Kam said about the planning stages. From very early on they wanted to do something special and it felt like a "no-brainer" to add the feature.

Throughout the history of the franchise, Groudon and Kyogre have been staples in the anime, in viral memes , and on teams that have had massive success in the video game format tournaments of Pokémon's competitive scene .

The two, along with the legendary dragon Rayquaza, make up what fans have coined "the weather trio" — a trifecta of elemental barons who hold dominion over their respective ecosystems.

Groudon, as its earthy name suggests, reigns over the lithosphere, while the water Pokémon Kyogre rules the hydrosphere. In Pokémon lore, both creatures remain locked in an ancient rivalry, causing the earth's surface to split and its oceans to swell.

In the main series of games, Groudon and Kyogre serve as the cover art for Pokémon Ruby and Pokémon Sapphire versions, respectively. Together, the games are listed as the eighth best-selling titles in the franchise's history.

James Perkins Mastromarino and Andy Bickerton contributed to this report.

  • Primal Reversion forms of legendary Pokemon

  • A Special Research story, available only to those who purchased a ticket, that lets players work alongside the Team Go Rocket Leaders for the first time ever.

  • A Ruby or Sapphire badge chosen by the player, with the choice determining certain parts of the event
  • Distance needed to hatch an egg will be halved

Pokémon Go Tour: Hoenn event in Las Vegas will have secret codes, special research, and more

Image of Jessica Scharnagle

A new Pokémon Go event set in Las Vegas will have some new activities in store for those who are in attendance, including secret codes that will be hidden throughout Sunset Park, Special Research, rare Pokémon spawns, and more.

The new event will feature Pokémon from the Hoenn region.

The event takes place from 10am to 6pm PT on Feb. 18 and 19, 2023 at Sunset Park in Las Vegas. Trainers can buy tickets and get early bird pricing from Dec. 1 to 31 for a one-day pass. Players will need to choose which day they’d like to go, since similar to other events, players can only purchase a ticket for one of those days. Tickets cost $25 USD, plus taxes and fees.

During the event, players will have access to a cool new activity where secret codes will be hidden around the park. Trainers that find them will be able to scan them and have a chance to encounter a Legendary Pokémon. There will also be a chance to encounter Primal Reversion forms for the first time in Pokémon Go .

The typical in-person experience will also be available for players in attendance, including an increased chance of encountering Shiny Pokémon from the Hoenn region. This includes Shiny Jirachi. Players will get bonuses like half Hatch Distance, up to nine additional daily Raid Passes when spinning Gym Photo Discs, and more.

Those looking to attend will need to choose between a Sapphire or Ruby badge.

As in past events where there were multiple options, the options players pick will dictate the kinds of Pokémon they encounter, and will likely also influence the Special Research.

In addition to the in-person event, a global Pokémon Go Tour: Hoenn will take place Feb. 23 and 24, 2023 from 10am to 6pm local time. Players who attend this virtual event will get all of the digital perks that the in-person event has, but with a different Special Research.

Pokemon Go's Hoenn Tour is taking place in Las Vegas, Nevada, in February 2023

Pokemon Go's Hoenn Tour is taking place in Las Vegas, Nevada, in February 2023

Pokémon Go’s Season 9: Mythical Wishes is launching tomorrow and is bringing back the much-awaited Pokémon Go Tour 2023, which takes trainers all the way back to Hoenn. On February 18th and 19th of next year, the event will go live in Sunset Park, Las Vegas. Pokémon from Ruby and Sapphire are making their way there as players participate in all the festivities.

There is so much that is going to happen during the Pokémon Go Tour 2023, but the most surprising thing is a partnership with Team Go Rocket of all people! During the event, a Special Research story will be held, which sees players join forces with their foes. It’s not yet clear whether the villains have had a change of heart or if is this just an elaborate trap.

yt

The primal forces are also coming to Pokémon Go as Groudon and Kyogre are resurfacing, causing environmental havoc. Primal Reversion comes to the AR game for the first time and players participating in the Primal Surge Field Research will receive opportunities of encountering these ancient and strong Pokémon.

This season has been titled Mythical Wishes and the hardcore fans may have realised that this has to do something to do with the wish-making Pokémon, Jirachi. Trainers making their way to the Hoenn Tour will be granted the Masterwork Research that includes an encounter with not just the regular Jirachi, but its Shiny variant!

Speaking of Shiny Pokémon, a lot of them will be available in Las Vegas. Professor Willow’s research has led to the revelation of a massive number of Shiny Pokémon from the Hoenn region appearing during the Tour next year. It’s the perfect opportunity to check those boxes off your empty Pokédex.

This is just the tip of the iceberg of all the festivities. Find out more on the official website . Niantic is also running an early bird discount right now with tickets available for $25 .

See you in 80 days!

Is Travis Kelce set to go on world tour and follow Taylor Swift's record-breaking Eras Tour?

The Kansas City Chiefs' tight end is supporting his girlfriend during the NFL offseason.

Travis Kelce will relax to recharge and prepare for the upcoming NFL season by following Taylor Swift around the world as the Kansas City Chiefs' popstar girlfriend continues on with her record-shattering Eras Tour throughout Europe.

After winning Super Bowl LVIII at the Allegiant Stadium in Las Vegas against the San Francisco 49ers, when Mercole Hardman caught Patrick Mahomes' overtime pass , Kelce has taken a few months to recuperate in the United States before taking on his next challenge.

The 34-year-old will join Swift as she performs in countless nations across the globe to continue on with the peak of her career, as he repays her for the time she gave up travelling to see him when he was playing football on his way to his third championship.

"I'm in Europe," Kelce said on his New Heights podcast that he co-hosts with his brother. "I'm gonna be dancing around, yeah. I'm all over the world this offseason.

"It's like the yin to my yang, you know. Football, it keeps me locked in to Kansas City during the season and you know I just gotta fly around and have some fun in the offseason."

Kelce added: "I'm living the dream, man."

Kelce remains stunned by Swift's performances

The Chiefs star actually filmed the latest episode, which features the NFL's commissioner, Roger Goodell , from Europe as he and Swift wait for her to take to the stage in Sweden from May 17-19 after she produced a four-night stint in Paris, France.

Amazingly, he's not yet tired of listening to his girlfriend sing as she bids to complete performing 152 shows to bring the tour, which began on March 17, 2023, to a close and instead he admits he gets more into it every time.

"I don't know if they're just getting better," Kelce added. "Or if I just keep forgetting how they are. It was electric.

"It just looks like they're having so much fun up there and they're absolutely killing it, and they're putting on a show that you won't get anywhere else."

Henderson using technology of today to spotlight its past on Historical Walking Tour

LAS VEGAS, Nev. (FOX5) -Henderson, the second largest city in Nevada, is often overshadowed by the bright lights of Las Vegas, but now it is putting its own history in the spotlight.

The City of Henderson is offering a historic walking tour on Water Street using the technology of today to showcase it’s past.

“We are really trying to take residents and visitors on a walk down memory lane,” shared Tiffany Reardon, Redevelopment Communications Specialist for the City of Henderson.

Henderson was officially incorporated on April 16, 1953. Now seven decades later, as the population continues to boom, the city’s Historical Walking Tour focuses on those early days in the 50′s and 60′s. With the scan of a QR code, you can transport back in time.

The La Porta building at the corner of Water and Army, once home to the insurance agency of one of Henderson’s first city councilmen, is now home to the Purple Penguin and a number of other businesses.

“I am a fourth generation Henderson native... I actually grew up here in the Townsite area and Water Street has always been the center of activity for me,” Reardon explained. Reardon knows the history of Henderson well.

“Henderson has such a rich history that we are not sure all the new residents are aware of. It was formed in America’s defense during WWII. The Basic Magnesium Incorporated plant was actually the world’s largest producer of magnesium ingots that were used for munitions,” Reardon explained. The plant brought 15,000 people who established the Basic Townsite.

“They thought it was going to be temporary and they didn’t expect to stay here but they got here and then they loved it,” Reardon recounted. During the war, women stepped up to work in the plant.

“Behind me is the statue of Magnesium Maggie. Magnesium Maggie is Henderson’s version of Rosie the Riveter... Basic Magnesium was really setting a precedent and they were giving women equal pay for equal work which was sort of unheard of at the time,” Reardon reported.

Basic Magnesium, integral to the founding of the city, is also how Water Street got its name.

“Water Street is called Water Street because there is a large water main that run right down the street and it fed water to the industrial plants,” Reardon revealed.

The city also offers the tour virtually with stories at each stop recorded by major figures in Henderson. You can also download a map before taking the tour on the city’s website.

There will be one merchandise booth located within the event venue that will sell Pokémon GO Tour–exclusive T-shirts to attendees while supplies last. There will also be one merchandise booth for preorder pick-ups.

Be advised that the merchandise shop is cashless.

Please note that because this booth is located within the venue, attendees will only be able to visit the merchandise booth during their ticketed session.

There will be an Information Booth located within the event. Stop by to get answers to your questions, receive registration help, learn about our accessibility plan, return found items or look for lost items, and learn more about Pokémon GO!

Pokémon GO Tour is proud to support those who may be nursing newborns during the event. Family restrooms will be available at the event. Please visit the Information Booth for the exact location.

There will be a Technical Support desk located within the event. The support staff can help you if you have issues with the event gameplay.

Plan Ahead and Prepare Think about what you bring. Choose reusable bags or totes for your supplies and souvenir items to help eliminate plastic bag waste. Avoid buying single-use items and disposing of them while in the venue.

Stick to the Path While playing, make sure to stick to designated paths and avoid any areas that are closed off. When vegetation is trampled, there is a greater chance that either weeds will grow back in its place or nothing will grow back at all. If everyone taking part in Pokémon GO Tour strayed from the path, our host venue could suffer severe impact, so help us take care of the park by sticking to dedicated paths and trails.

Pack It In, Pack It Out Our goal for Pokémon GO Tour is to leave the venue better than we found it. As much as possible, things you bring into the venue should leave with you, too. For other waste, Pokémon GO Tour will have trash and recycling stations around the host venue for your use. Even leftover biodegradable materials, such as food scraps, should be disposed of in a compost bin. Though these items are biodegradable, they are not native to the host city and can create an eyesore for others. A general rule of thumb is to ask yourself, “Would this be here if I weren’t?” If the answer is no, then the best practice is to pack it out with you and dispose of it properly.

Keep Wildlife Wild Observe wildlife from a distance and never feed them human food. Animals can become dependent on leftover food or trash and become aggressive as a result. By sticking to paths and not approaching wildlife, you avoid stressing animals or damaging their habitat.

Leave It as You Find It If each visitor picked a flower, collected a rock, or didn’t properly dispose of waste, then the natural habitat would be depleted. Leave the venues and city as you find them to protect the habitat of plants and animals, as well as the outdoor experiences of millions of visitors. Even better, with the help of fellow Trainers, we can leave our host city better than we found it!

Garbage/refuse collection and disposal is ultimately the responsibility of everyone. Any and all refuse generated must be properly disposed of in receptacles located throughout the venue. Please dispose of your trash in the correct receptacles, as notated by signs.

All ticket holders are allowed to re-enter the event throughout their ticketed session. Only ticket holders will be able to participate in the Pokémon GO Tour gameplay experience and specialized elements.

Trainers requiring additional support while inside the venue, including minors and individuals with disabilities, are asked to limit companions to a maximum of two. Companions will be asked to enter the venue through designated companion lanes. Venue staff can assist with locating and using these lanes.

Security guards will be located throughout the areas of the event to provide assistance. If additional assistance is needed, find the nearest security staff or text 626-400-5119.

Pokémon GO Tour is ADA compliant, including accessible entrances and restrooms. Power outlets for recharging devices will be located at specific locations across the venue. For more information on accessibility accommodations, visit the Information Booth during operational hours. Services offered at the Information Booth include, but are not limited to, the following:

  • Answers to questions specific to the ADA access program
  • Information relevant to our patrons with disabilities

If you encounter a guest with a disability who has any access questions or needs assistance, please direct them to the Information Booth.

Please be considerate of all Pokémon GO Tour attendees. Never ask the nature of a person’s disability. Never push a mobility device or wheelchair unless asked, but you can help clear crowds as appropriate.

A patron requiring insulin is allowed to bring their medically necessary materials and medications as long as all medicine has a prescription label with the patron’s name. Out of concern for the festival staff who handle the trash, patrons are expected to dispose of medical waste and syringes in the proper disposal located at the Public Safety Building adjacent to Gate A inside the stadium or the medical area on the golf course. These locations will be designated on the map provided prior to the event. Please do not dispose of these items in other trash bins at the event.

If additional support is required, please check in at the medical area.

The venue grounds are ADA accessible, but please be aware that this is a venue with distances between attractions. The length of the experience is about 1.3 miles. Bear in mind that Pokémon GO Tour is an outdoor event where most travel is over natural terrain and pathways. Be prepared for rain or shine. Pokémon GO Tour does not provide wheelchairs for rent or loan, personal care, golf cart rides, or push services of any kind. Guests should make arrangements in advance if a wheelchair is needed and plan to bring attendants, if required.

Motorized vehicles, such as Segways and golf carts, are not allowed.

Accessible toilets are available throughout the venue.

A Rose Bowl Stadium campus map (with bathrooms) will be available soon.

Pre-paid ADA parking is available within the park on a “first come, first served” basis. Once accessible parking lots fill, patrons will be directed to the closest available general parking area. In some instances, the closest available accessible parking is on grass.

Patrons with a state-issued accessible parking placard or license plate will be required to present their accessible identification/registration card upon request. The Rose Bowl Stadium honors out-of-state accessible placards and identification/registration cards.

Accessible parking spaces are located at several locations within multiple lots around the venue. ADA and access vehicle drop-off and pick-up at Rose Bowl Stadium and in the Arroyo Seco is located in the northeast corner of Lot I of the Rose Bowl Stadium parking lots.

Please reference the Parking section above for more information.

Service animals will be permitted inside the event space with proper credentials. Service animals include guide dogs, signal dogs or other animals that have been trained to provide support to a person with disabilities. Any other animal poses a threat to the health and safety of others and will not be permitted inside the event space. We thank you for your cooperation.

No outside food or beverage will be permitted with the exception of up to two (2) factory-sealed water bottles. There will be a variety of food vendors on-site.

Hydration stations to refill water bottles and water fountains will be located throughout the golf course and Rose Bowl Stadium. Don’t forget to bring your reusable water bottle to fill up and keep yourself refreshed throughout the event. Please be mindful of the weather. Drink water even if you don’t feel thirsty. We want everyone to stay hydrated and healthy during Pokémon GO Tour!

Pokémon GO Tour will have food vendors that will be able to accommodate vegetarian, vegan, and gluten dietary needs. Please visit the Information Booth for a full list of vendors and further information.

The event will take place rain or shine. Please dress appropriately for the weather conditions. No refunds will be given due to inclement weather. In the case of extreme weather, directions to the nearest shelters will be communicated to attendees.

To apply for press credentials, please reach out to press@nianticlabs.com .
