Are you a salsero (a salsa dancer or fan)? Do you enjoy the warm air and soft breezes of ocean cruising? If you answered yes to both, then a salsa cruise should be a must-do on your travel bucket list. Over the years, I’ve experienced many dance cruises — from ballroom to tango to zydeco — but nothing compares to the vibe of a salsa cruise.

Salsa, Salsa Everywhere

As soon as I boarded Carnival Cruise Line’s colorful Carnival Victory , there was no mistake that I was on a salsa cruise. The enticing rhythm of salsa music was playing everywhere. Exploring the ship, the Latin beat could be heard from the dining room to the casino and all the way up to the top deck.

Salsa was the background music for breakfast, lunch, and dinner and all hours of the day and night. Passengers could choose between a live band or a visit to the different venues with DJs at the helm. The fun and the cool energetic sound thrilled any salseros enthusiast, whether they were a dancer or a spectator.

The 4-day cruise was filled with activities such as Zumba classes, advanced salsa dance classes, an outdoor concert in Puerto Plata, Dominican Republic, and, of course, leading lineups.

As usual, this year’s Latin salsa music roster was top notch and included performances by the legendary El Gran Combo, Grammy Award–winner Oscar D’Leon, “The Pretty Boy of Salsa” Ismael Miranda, Milly Quezada, Luisito Carrion, Alex Sensation, Chino Nunez, Luisito Rosario, Tamara Morales, Mambo Lebron, Oro Solido, and all the fantastic DJs between sets.

Feeling the ubiquitous beats of today conjures thoughts about the everlasting salsa, which originated in the mid-1800s and evolved from earlier Cuban dance forms such as son, son montuno, cha cha cha, mambo, and Puerto Rican bomba and plena. The Latino communities made it popular in New York in the 1940s. Various Caribbean and Latin America countries have distinct salsa styles of their own, such as Cuban, Cali Colombia, Puerto Rican, L.A., and New York styles. But no matter your preference, salsa music manages to stay fresh and popular with both older and younger music fans. Some might say it even closes the generation gap.

A Bit of Background (Music)

Myrna Franceschis is the driving force behind the Salsa Cruise. A former law enforcement officer from New York City, she got her start organizing local salsa dances of 80 to 200 people. As she became more and more popular, she launched her own salsa dance cruise in 1997, which was a novelty back….

No. The event ticket gives you admission to the event on the ship and access to all workshops and Miami Salsa Cruise activities. The cabin is reserved seperately.

HOW DO I BOOK MY CABIN?

Once you purchase your event ticket, you will be e-mailed the Miami Salsa Cruise group Code along with the contact information to our Carnival Group travel specialist to reserve your cabin.

DOES MY SPOUSE, CHILD, OR OTHER TRAVELING COMPANION HAVE TO PURCHASE EVENT TICKETS TO SAIL?

No. Only attendees who wish to attend the exclusive event parties and workshops have to buy a Miami Salsa Cruise ticket. All other attendees must still reserve a cabin using the shared group code once an event ticket is purchased.

The Anita Dee is docked at Burnham Harbor By Soilder Field off of Lake Shore Drive.** Since the Harbor has no real physical address, GPS and online directions are unreliable. Use the maps along with the directions below to get to the boat!

Guests may find paid parking at either the South Lot or the Waldron Parking Deck and walk to our location at the South end of the harbor (in between Soldier Field & McCormick Place). See attached map & directions showing our Burnham Harbor location.

All guests must be 21+ with a valid government issued ID that will be checked by security prior to boarding the boat.

A valid ticket with scannable QR code is required by all guests to board. It is recommended to print a paper ticket to prevent any technology complications which would prevent your ticket from displaying on your phone.

There is no guest list at the boat, each ticket must be scanned. Security reserves the right to inspect all bags and persons.

Absolutely no outside food or beverage may be brought on the boat.

Guests who are deemed intoxicated (or otherwise unfit) upon arrival, will be denied entry and no refunds will be given.

We want all guests to enjoy themselves on the cruise, but please note you will be on the boat for an extended amount of time and our number one priority is the safety of all guests.

The boat will depart the dock as soon as boarding is completed. Once the boat begins its cast off procedure, for the safety of all guests, absolutely no late arrivals will be allowed within the security fence to board.

If you are late, you will be left at the harbor without a refund. In the event of dangerous weather conditions, security situations, mechanical issues with the locks, the boat, etc., the boat may not cruise, but the event will still go on at the dock.

Trueno,  El Último Baile  (Sony Music Latin/Sur Capital Records)

For his third studio album,  El Último Baile , Trueno thoroughly showcases the generational and cultural impact of hip-hop music. “I keep it real, esto es lo que representó […] por acá no hablamos sin tener conocimiento” (I keep it real, this is what I represent […] we don’t speak without knowledge here), he freestyles in the nearly 45-second intro, further proving that he lives and breathes the movement.

“With the album, I try to expand a different concept through each track with a musical genre that has been part of hip-hop culture,” the Argentine artist expresses in a press release. “It’s a journey through certain eras, certain decades of hip hop and the genres that emerged from it – that is where the concept was born. I want to offer a little celebration for the people during a time that was perhaps socially and economically critical. Like many of us in Latin America.” —  JESSICA ROIZ

Gabito Ballesteros, THE GB (Los CT Records)

Even before dropping an entire project, Mexican singer-songwriter Gabito Ballesteros had already cemented himself as a música mexicana hitmaker with songs like “Lady Gaga,” which he co-wrote, and “AMG.” Now, with THE GB — his first studio album following his breakout 2023 — Ballesteros doubles down on his commitment to keep regional Mexican music’s momentum going. With the swagger that has characterized his music, he kicks off the 22-song set with “Sad Loqueron,” powered by prickly guitars and a wailing trombone.

Ballesteros starts off mellow, with a moody song about heartbreak — which is very much his essence — but he also taps into the faster-paced corridos tumbados that have catapulted himself (and other acts like Natanael Cano and Peso Pluma) to the top of the charts. Both Cano and Peso, two of Ballesteros’ biggest supporters, are, of course, featured artists in the set. The three megastars first team up on the flashy “Lucky Charms,” the second song on the set, which finds Peso, Cano and Ballesteros singing about a lush lifestyle that includes Lambos and Bentleys.

Kinky, “un x100to” (OCESA Seitrack)

For over two decades, Kinky has redefined the traditional rock band paradigm with their innovative blend of electronic music and norteño flair. As masters of this unique musical fusion, the Monterrey ensemble recently put their own spin on five beloved regional Mexican songs, including Ed Maverick’s “Fuentes de Ortiz,” Rocío Dúrcal and Juan Gabriel’s “Déjame Vivir” (featuring Majo Aguilar) and Grupo Soñador’s “El Paso del Gigante,” singles that the outfit released earlier this year.

Today, they unveil the final two shots in the barrel with  5 Disparos EP — which includes dynamic reinterpretations of “Nunca Es Suficiente,” by Los Ángeles Azules featuring Natalia Lafourcade, and Bad Bunny & Grupo Frontera’s “un x100to.” The latter transforms from familiar guitar strums and a cumbia rhythm into a brilliant uptempo dance-pop anthem that glitters at night. Few artists can reimagine and elevate a phenomenal song while preserving its original spirit as deftly as Kinky does. —  ISABELA RAYGOZA

Following his Latin Grammy-nominated  El Diablo en el Cuerpo  (2023), Alex Anwandter strikes back with  Dime Precioso , his sixth studio album — a vibrant synth-pop opus of nine tracks crafted for the dancefloor. More experimental than ever, the album launches with a seductive, hip-thrusting beat cloaked in glimmering effects, setting the stage where Anwandter plays the part of a wayward lost boy. Elsewhere, “Tu Nueva Obsesión” captivates with funky bass lines that dance with iridescent keys, and the spotlight track “Paris, Tal Vez?,” enchants with ethereal musings on the romantic mystique of Parisian nights.

“The title ‘Dime Precioso’ refers to wanting to feel constantly desired in a chaotic and hopeless world,” the Chilean star said in a press release. “And how absurd — funny sometimes but mostly tragic — it is to surrender to this obsession while horrific things are happening right now.” Claiming influences ranging from Burt Bacharach to ‘90s house music, Gil Evans, Brazilian MPB, and Latin American pop, the singer-songwriter and producer continues to stand out as one of today’s most groundbreaking indie artists. —  I.R.

Louis Vuitton pays homage to Barcelona architect Antoni Gaudí in 2025 Cruise Collection

BARCELONA, Spain (AP) — Louis Vuitton unveiled its latest fashion designs at Barcelona’s Park Güell on Thursday, providing the clothes with drama to finally match Antoni Gaudí’s architectural masterpiece.

Nicolas Ghesquiere’s ambitions for the Parisian house’s 2025 Cruise collection were unveiled before an A-list crowd, including actresses Ana de Armas, Jennifer Connelly and Saoirse Ronan.

Louis Vuitton usually unveils its ready-to-wear collections in the French capital, while choosing exotic and attention-grabbing locations for its destination cruise collections.

Where tourists tread daily in tank tops, shorts and flip flops, this UNESCO World Heritage Site for one night was home to cutting-edge garments that blended with its earthly tones that are at once organic and yet seemingly ethereal.

The models weaved their way through the 86 Doric columns that hold up a vaulted square in the center of the park that overlooks Barcelona and the Mediterranean Sea in the distance.

The show notes said Ghesquiere had been inspired by Gaudí’s “legacy in constant mutation” and Spain’s rich artistic heritage.

“As if in homage to such opulent purity, the Maison’s rigorous spirit embraces the country’s passionate character,” the notes read. “The fervor of its colors, its loyalty to tradition elevated into artistic expression, dark and light that never appear contradictory.”

Dramatic silhouettes contrasted with the soft curves of Gaudí’s organic structures, which were then reflected in the dresses that draped and folded into volumes that defied gravity.

And then there were flashes that delighted: a pair of equestrian boots that finished in a bunch of tassels.

The fashion show, however, was not celebrated by all. A group of a few hundred residents protested the event for what they said were the inconveniences it had caused, including reduced parking in the area. The protest also included animal right activists.

The group of protesters located a few streets down the hill from the park’s outer wall could be heard beating drums, blowing air horns and setting off firecrackers before the show kicked off. Catalan police said they arrested one person for resisting violently to their decision to remove the protesters from a street to let traffic through.

Park Güell, pronounced “gu-ay” was started in 1900 as a planned upscale residential development designed by Gaudí, whose other works include the still-in-progress La Sagrada Familia Basilica. But a lack of buyers led to it being ditched in favor of a park that eventually passed into the hands of the Barcelona townhall.

It now receives 4.4 million visitors a year, mostly from the U.S., Britain, France, Germany and Italy, with Barcelona residents only representing 0.3% of the visitors, according to the park.
