Celebrity Summit Cruise Review: Post Revolutionized (with photos)

Celebrity Summit Post-Revolutionized Review with photos

Celebrity Summit Cruise Review After the Updates (part 1)

We recently cruised on the Celebrity Summit (post-revolutionized) from Cape Liberty, New Jersey to Bermuda, Boston, Bar Harbor and Portland. The combination of 3 port days in Bermuda,  and 3 days in New England made for an interesting 11 day cruise that we couldn’t pass up!

clebrity summit embarkation

Celebrity Summit Cruise Review Post-Revolutionized (part 1)

We were pretty excited about cruising on the Celebrity Summit, now that it’s been “Revolutionized”. I figure, you probably are too!

So, before getting into the dining, entertainment, and port reviews, I’ll go over our impressions of the ship, post-updates.

Part 1 of this Celebrity Summit Cruise Review, will focus on the details about the ship itself, after the Celebrity Revolution updates.

To give you a bit of background, we have cruised on the Summit twice before, and really enjoy this ship. However, there were areas that were dated and needed a fresher look.

I wrote about what we were most looking forward to before our cruise on Celebrity Summit , and the ship did not disappoint!

Cabins: First Impressions

Celebrity Summit Inside Cabin 6 x 4

One of the first things we did after boarding, and having a quick glass of celebratory Champagne upon embarkation, what I think of as one of Celebrity Cruises “Special Touches”, was head to our cabin to put our carry-on and other items down.

We were pleased to know that Celebrity is now trying to make it more comfortable for guests, by allowing a quick drop off of the essentials in the cabin, while the attendant continues to make everything ready.

As we walked up the stairs and down the halls, we saw that the carpets had been replaced and were fresh. However, when we saw our cabin we were shocked.

We were in an Inside Cabin for this cruise, and truthfully weren’t expecting much. However, as we opened the cabin door, we literally gasped. The color palette is serene and upscale, yet it was so warm and inviting.

Plus, it really felt spacious. Having seen photos, they just don’t do it justice.

Now, I won’t say that this inside cabin was as good as a Veranda cabin (let’s face it a balcony is pretty awesome!) , it was a pleasant surprise that the inside cabin was more than livable. It was genuinely very pretty.

The only negatives were not having natural light, and the extra space of the balcony (which we fully expected).

When we’ve had balcony cabins, we really enjoy some coffee outside in the morning and love some time on our own private outdoor space. So we did miss this a little, but still found our cabin very comfortable.

Cabin Layout, Furnishings and Bathroom

Celebrity Summit cabin bathroom 6 x4

For an inside cabin, the space was very efficient and the furnishings were really nice, and practical. If you’ve cruised on this ship (or similar ones) before, you’ll notice that the small sofa was replaced with a large chair, and the coffee table is no longer there.

In our case, the sofa chair turned into a bed at night for our son. We found all beds extremely comfortable, even the sofa bed!

Something to note is that there were electric and USB outlets at both the desk/vanity and night-tables. Nice improvement!

The bathroom was so nice, with good shelving and a glass shower door.

Here’s a quick cabin tour video, where you can see the closet space and more of the furnishings.

More Celebrity Summit cabins: Veranda, Oceanview, and Quad cabins (cabins for 4)

We did a little cabin tour through the online roll call we joined, so here are some photos of the other cabins as well.

Celebrity Summit Ocean view Cabin front large

Oceanview Cafe (buffet)

Celebrity Summit Oceanview Cafe

We went upstairs to Deck 10 and had a bite to eat at Ocean view Cafe, the buffet.

This is an area that looks completely transformed, and almost doesn’t feel like a cruise ship buffet. It was so spacious, and the colors were light and airy, with different types of chairs and tables in various sections of the buffet.

I overheard someone say that there was wasted space, as they could have fit “more” in. I disagree, as finally we were in a buffet that didn’t feel loud and hectic, and tight on space.

That being said, there are several stations along the sides of Oceanview Cafe, and in the back are were you can find stations such as pasta station, a pizza station, create a sandwich station, salads, and hot grilled items.

One thing we noticed is that the grill station that was there before, was removed in lieu of this hot station. It does include grilled minute steak, chicken breast and fish, however it wasn’t cooked to order.

Tip: At the entrance to Oceanview Cafe, there is an ice cream and snack bar with absolute delicious ice cream and freshly made sorbet. We had the mango sorbet on our embarkation day, and truly it was mouth watering.

celebrity summit wake

Sunset Bar – Only my favorite place on the Celebrity Summit.

#ilovesunsetbar – just sayin’

We experienced Sailaway from here for the first time, at the recommendation of new friends we met. They were right. It had a great atmosphere (despite an overcast sky), including a lovely musical duo playing for us as we departed.

Check out Sailaway at the Sunset Bar for a great aft view as you depart Cape Liberty and head under the Verazano Bridge.

The furniture is so pretty and it’s our favorite place to eat, when we go to the buffet (it’s straight out back).

celebrity summit after the updates

While we truly enjoy the Sunset Bar, I will pass on some pros and cons about these updates, in my opinion (and heard from some others on board)

Gorgeous new furniture.

A larger, more open bar.

A lighter and airier look with light woods.

Less shade – The covering over Sunset Bar is a wood design with openings rather than full shade in some areas.

Low tables with regular size chairs. These tables were somewhat awkward to eat at, so try and find a high one unless you’re simply having a drink.

Tip: If you enjoy Sangria, the Sunset Bar had an amazing red sangria. As we got back from our cruise ports, we ended the afternoon with a Sangria as we sailed away. Perfect!

Main Pool area

Celebrity Summit Main Pool updated

The main pool area seems to have gotten a nice little face-lift. She has new lounge chairs and the pools have been painted a very pretty shade of sea blue.

The Solarium Pool

celebrity summit spa pool

The thallostherapy pool is definitely a favorite of many Celebrity Summit cruisers. Calming music plays, there is comfortable lounge seating and conversation areas. Plus, it’s a covered pool, that gets a lot of light.

Updates also include a nice updated paint job to the well loved large lady sculpture that adorns the Solarium Pool.

Celebrity Summit Solarium Pool Sculpture 6 x 4

Persian Gardens

Persian Gardens received a beautiful update and has an upgraded feel. The “aquatic suite”, with an aromatic steam room, sensory showers, salt room, Hamman Turkish bath, Infrared Sauna and heated loungers, is a popular feature on the Summit.

Passes are available for the week, however, if you are cruising in an Aqua Class Veranda, access to Persian Gardens is included. If you enoy spending time at the spa, consider the value of Aqua Class for this benefit (among  others)

Tip: Just inside the doors to the interior of the ship from the Solarium Pool, there is a ladies washroom that is my favorite public washroom on the ship.

What’s so special?

Hairdryers, lotions and an updated and beautiful sauna. If you enjoy  a sauna and don’t have access to Persian Gardens for the week, this one was almost always empty. Maybe, don’t tell anyone 😉

Cosmopolitan Dining Room

Celebrity Summit Cosmopolitan diningroom 6 x4

With a color scheme as calming as the sea, the “revolutionized” Cosmopolitan dining room is beautiful in every way.

Previously, this main dining room was rich, but dark.

Now, it’s light and modern, with unique but sumptuous seating. No matter where you sat, the chairs were very comfortable.

This cruise, we opted for traditional early seating, which was a pleasure. It was nice to get back to having the same servers every night, as we had done on our earlier cruises, but more on that in Part 2.

Rendez-Vous Lounge

Celebrity Summit Rendez vous lounge 6 x4

Another area that got a complete change of look and feel, is the comfortable Rendez-Vous lounge that led into the Cosmopolitan restaurant.

The look is now open and bright, and once again feels like a totally different space than what we remember.

Now, there are groupings of chairs and seating configurations for 2, 4, 8 and even 10. This made for a great venue for games and shows in the evening, as well as activities during the day.

When nothing was scheduled, you could see people playing board games or sitting and talking. A really nice space.

Celebrity Summit Rendez Vous Lounge seating

There were some updates made to the theater (it was always dark, so being honest hard to see). However, from a passenger point of view, the more comfortable seating was a noted update that we really appreciated. The tones were also neutral and rich, and very much in line with the look of the rest of the ship.

Gone are the dark reds and in are the blues and grays and silver. I didn’t play in the casino, so my only experience is walking through, but the Casino was looking good.

Celebrity Summit Shops and shopping area

Celebrity Summit emporium 6 x 4

In the past, the shopping space on the Summit was called the Emporium. Being honest, I’m not sure it is anymore.

However, this space has been refurbished really nicely with fresh carpeting and a nice long and unique seating “couch” in the center. Blues, grays and silver and a bright look made this space feel nice and bright!

The shops were nice enough – pretty typical cruise stores.

For those that are interested, in addition to a Celebrity souvenir shop, there is an Apple Store, a couple jewelry stores, a Tag Hueur boutique and a small Vintage Rolex collection for sale (pre-owned). This very much interested my son, lol, although no purchase was made ;-).

The Celebrity Summit exterior

Celebrity Summit dockyard bermuda

You can see that the Celebrity Summit now has a fresh new exterior look as well. She sure looks pretty in Bermuda.

What was not refurbished on the Celebrity Summit?

As much as this was beyond a basic refurbishment, not every space was redone on the Summit.

I’m pointing this out not as a complaint, but so you can have a realistic expectation of what to expect. After all, it is an older ship.

Crush Martini Bar and Sky Lounge

Both of these bars and venues still look pretty amazing and are overall in keeping with the Celebrity Summit “revolutionized” look.

Could they use new, more comfortable chairs? Probably in the near future.

The Grand Foyer and Cafe Al Bacio

I LOVE these spaces and am OK that they were not updated. However, since the rest of the ship was updated in lighter and more modern tones, it surprised us that Cafe Al Bacio’s dark wood and yellow gold look remained.

That said, we LOVE Cafe Al Bacio and always found it a great place to hang out, have amazing coffee and amazing desserts.

Celebrity Summit Lemon tart cafe al bacio 6 x 4

Tip: The pastries and desserts are included and are soooo good. Try the lemon tarts which are sinful!

Recommended reading: If you’d like to know more about Cafe Al Bacio and what’s included (menus too), you can read this post .

Cellar Masters

Celebrity Summit Cellar Masters 6 x 4

Leading into the Cosmopolitan Dining room on Deck 5 (upper level) is Cellar Masters. This wine bar/lounge didn’t get updated and the color scheme and furnishings do look dark and a bit worn. This was probably the only space that we noticed this.

We heard some info (at a Cruise Critic get together ) that this area was supposed to have been redone, however time ran out. I can’t be 100% sure, but I can see that being a possibility.

Revolutionized cruise ship areas we didn’t see

The retreat deck, lounge and suites.

If you’ve been following the Celebrity Revolution videos and photos, you know that the Celebrity Summit now has a stunning sun deck area at the front of the ship, reserved for guests staying in suites.

I’m sure it’s as amazing in person as in photos!

reviews of celebrity summit cruise ship

Overall impressions of the ship and cruise

This was one of the best cruises we’ve had. Truly, although the ship is really as nice (actually nicer), than it looks in photos, this isn’t what makes the cruise.

The Celebrity Summit staff and crew were incredible. Our stateroom attendant was attentive and did a great job. Our servers made every dinner special. The entertainment was excellent. The food and drinks… wonderful. All of this will be in the next part of the cruise review.

Finally, Captain Ioannis was so personable. If you have a chance to go to the Captain’s Talk (was on the last sea day on our cruise), definitely do so. It was extremely informative a great way to spend some time during our sea day .

Thank you for this review.We were on the Summit a few weeks before you as well as last year. We agree with you. It is a great ship with excellent service.I want to go back

Hi Barbara,

Thanks so much – glad you liked it and also had a great experience. I’m right with you…. I just need more vacation time ;-).

I hope you’ve got another cruise coming up on the horizon!

Thanks for the information. I’m very excited about my cruise in October on the summit. I do have one question for you. About seating. Did you find that the chairs are at a good height for people especially older people with creaky bones and wide enough for overweight or obese people???

we were on the anthem in January and noticed that the designers failed to acknowledge passenger weight and age. Chairs were so low and the chairs were made for skinny people.

Hi MaryAnne,

Glad the info was helpful – I’ll have more to come as I sort through all my photos and videos.

Great questions – so I do think this depends on the venue. However, the buffet chairs and even MDR chairs had a very open design, so that chair arms didn’t turn back in (if that makes sense). In the lounges the couches seemed low, however there were some spacious single chairs as well. In the theater, it was bench style seating, so this seemed quite accommodating and comfortable as well.

I hope this helps a bit. Have a wonderful cruise!

Thanks for your unique perspective on the newly-renovated Celebrity Summit. We are sailing out of Puerto Rico for the Virgin Islands from just after Christmas through the New Year. I Am interested in a finding out your thoughts about the updated staterooms & bathrooms & a few other things..

New glass-door showers… Do they provide body wash, shampoo & conditioner dispensers in the showers? Or do we have to bring our own?

Plenty of closet space?

Did you pay for the internet pkg? Not sure about if I want to get it (even the least expensive for one device) but want to get your thoughts.

TV? Channels? My husband can’t fall asleep without it (don’t ask lol!).

There will be eight of us (2 kids under 7 yrs) & we have open seating for dinner. Any reason why you specifically chose the other option?

Is on-board laundry/cleaners expensive? Good turnaround? I hate flying home with dirty clothes. Unless it’s really pricey…

How’s the Kid’s Club/Camp? Know anything about it? If not, I’ll check with Cruise Critic.

I hope I’m not too presumptuous… Hope to hear back when you have a chance. Thanks!

So glad you found this post. Your cruise sounds amazing – love the itinerary from San Juan!

I’ll try my best to answer your questions – I do also have several Youtube videos with some details including a ship tour you might find helpful – here’s one/the main tour, but you”l find others on the channel https://youtu.be/IIOVayS6VvE

They had shower gel, shampoo and conditioner. I bring my own hair products out of preference. Yes, glass shower doors.

Closet and drawer space quiet good. Check video for details.

I didn’t buy the internet. We used our phones instead on port days.

I didn’t watch tv, I would say they are standard and somewhat limited.

We’ve done select dining before and it’s fine, but we wanted to go back to knowing we had a table ready and the same waiters nightly. That said, we reserved tables in the past in open dining and the service was excellent.

If you can reserve times in advance, I would. It’s not fun to wait in line, especially if you’re 8 people.

Laundry was pricey, in my opinion. Although they had a promo for 40$ or so for a bag of laundry towards the end of the cruise. I needed a few pieces washed midway and paid 45$ for just a few items.

My son went to the kids club/teen club in the past and it was very good. I’ve heard of others with yourng children finding it to be good. It’s not a ship with lots of bells and whistles for kids (ie. waterslides and ropes courses), but the pools are great, and there are good activities, including movies at the very top in the back of the ship.

I hope this helps. If you’re on Facebook, there’s a great group called Celebrity Summit 2.0 where people post current info. You may enjoy it :-).

Have an amazing cruise!!

I loved your post! Do you know anything about the new always included perks, especially the classic drinks package? If you do, is it sufficient for most venues, or would you recommend upgrading? I loved your pictures!! Thank you!

Thanks so much! The Summit is honestly one of our favorite ships, especially after the upgrades. Here’s a post about the Always Included. Something to know is the classic package, which is the AI, does not include the martinis and top brand liqueurs, but a lot is still included. The details are here if you need more info: https://lifewellcruised.com/celebrity-cruises-always-included/

Love this post Ilana..so informative.we are cruising in Sept 2022 to Canada..but have a cabin with a window..no balc.left.is the window like the small circle portholes they were years ago or a decent size window now? Thanks for all your info!

When I cruised on Celebrity Summit the ocean view cabins had nice large round windows!

Celebrity Summit Review: A Refreshed Cruise Ship

Picture of Doug Parker

Doug Parker

  • September 19, 2023

Back in 2019, while the Celebrity Edge was grabbing headlines, the Celebrity Summit was subtly undergoing a significant makeover.

low 1692052714 Celebrity Summit

Now, four years later, it’s worth reflecting on how this once understated, classic vessel received a revamp that made many take a second glance. We had the privilege of embarking on this newly reimagined ship shortly after its renovation.

Celebrity Summit Ship Specifications

Overall Celebrity Summit First Impressions

Celebrity Summit 2019

It’s fair to say that the ship was due — maybe even overdue — for a freshening up. While Summit was a cutting-edge ship at the time of her 2001 launch, that was (hard as it is to believe) 22 years ago.

Celebrity recently invested about $500 million in a fleet-wide renovation, and, in this case, the influence of Celebrity Edge is evident. Sister brand Royal Caribbean is currently doing the same type of renovation, coined “Royal Amplified.”

The previous refit put Summit’ s amenities in line with Celebrity Cruises’ Solstice class ships.

Celebrity Summit review

The new-and-improved Summit feels a bit lighter throughout. While the ship (and cruise line as a whole) tended to favor darker colors in the past, the new color palette is overall lighter — leaning more toward tan, grey, and shades of gold than the heavy blues and reds of the past.

It’s amazing how something as simple as the colors chosen for furnishings and other design elements can transform a space from stuffy to contemporary, as has happened in numerous public areas around  Summit .

LISTEN: Celebrity Infinity Review 2019

Perhaps nowhere is the before-and-after transformation Summit underwent during the March drydock more evident than in the Cosmopolitan restaurant — aka the main dining room. Some changes here are small (like the dark supporting beams being painted white).

In contrast, others are massive (a stunning new ceiling treatment and all-new furniture, including several tables with high-back chairs that offer an almost cocoon-like experience). What was previously a rather average space now has the “wow” factor that causes guests to stop and take pictures the first time they enter.

Celebrity Summit

That contemporary vibe is reflected throughout the public spaces on the ship, whether it is newly-created lounging areas or already-established restaurants that were given a lighter, but still noticeable, touch-up.

Small touches abound throughout, with many being as practical as they are classy. And some, oddly enough, bring a comfortingly homey element, such as throw pillows on chairs in some of the public spaces.

Celebrity summit review

Another thing one notices while exploring the ship is the striking array of artwork on display, including several fun, Instagram-worthy pieces.

For example, in the pool area, you’ll find a sculpture that looks for all the world, like a fellow sunbather stretched out for a nap. (Just try and resist taking a photo with the guy!)

And as with almost every modern cruise ship, you’ll find interesting paintings scattered about, especially in the stairwells… which gives you added incentive to take the stairs instead of the elevator.

The Staterooms Have A Whole New Look

Celebrity Summit

When ships go into a refurbishment-centric drydock, the staterooms are almost always included in some fashion. More often than not, it’s simply a matter of changing the general look of the cabins instead of making sweeping changes.

But in this case, every single stateroom was not only refurbished but — after being stripped down to the steel frame — essentially rebuilt.

The result is modern because it is minimalistic, with crisp colors and clean lines. This is an incredibly smart move as it’s a somewhat timeless look, meaning it won’t wind up feeling dated a few years later.

READ MORE: Celebrity Summit Cruise Photos

As we’ve already discussed with other areas of the ship, the new staterooms feel brighter and are, thanks to new lighting fixtures throughout the spaces.

There seem to be fewer drawers, more shelves, and more open space across the various categories.

Celebrity Summit

Thankfully, USB ports were installed both on the vanity and by the bedside. And — hallelujah! — the newly renovated bathrooms ditched those awful shower curtains in favor of glass enclosures. Bedding-wise, every room now has Celebrity’s eXhale bedding with cashmere mattresses.

If there’s one thing missing from the rooms, it’s a pop of color. The shades of white, tan, and grey — right down to the wall decorations, which are more tapestry than painting — can feel a bit monotone.

CELEBRITY SUMMIT REVIEW 14

All in all, 30 new staterooms were added across several categories. Guests staying in suites can access several exclusive areas, including their sundeck, restaurant, and The Retreat Lounge (which now resides in the formerly occupied by Michael’s Club).

Fun Fact: 80% of the staterooms on Celebrity Summit offer ocean views.

Dining Options

Celebrity Summit

Although cruise lines are increasingly emphasizing specialty restaurants (all the better to fatten the bottom line, of course), it’s equally important that passengers feel there are both plentiful and quality complimentary options.

That’s the case on Summit, beginning with the venue we mentioned earlier: the Cosmopolitan Restaurant, which serves as the ship’s two-story main dining room.

The menu isn’t all that different from what you’d find in the dining room of any other mainstream cruise line, with a selection of appetizers and entrees that rotate nightly, as well as “timeless” entrees and appetizers that remain the same.

For those who order a bottle of wine and cannot finish it, the sommelier will cork the bottle and serve it at the next night’s meal.

Celebrity Summit

The dining room offers two options: traditional seating (at 6 p.m. and 8:30 p.m.) or Select Dining, which, while offered on a limited basis, allows more flexibility. Interestingly, those opting for the Select Dining program must prepay their dining gratuities.

The ship’s buffet — the Oceanview Cafe —is set up as a series of stations or islands, each representing foods from different parts of the globe.

The stations are mirrored on the port and starboard side, and the entire design makes for fairly easy navigation and a lack of “crowd bunching”, which can happen when cruise buffets are set up as one continuous line instead of islands.

There’s plenty of seating, including a great outdoor area on the aft of the ship, meaning you can dine al fresco while taking in the incredible views.

celebrity summit

At breakfast time, the items are pretty spread out, although lunch and dinner seem a more organized and well-thought-out proposition. One of the items I use to judge a buffet is pizza, and what was offered here was pretty solid.

Celebrity Summit review

Looking for a grab-and-go meal while hanging out by the pool? They serve up decent burgers (including a veggie burger) and fries at the Pool Grill.

Celebrity Summit review

Specialty restaurant-wise, the ship offers Tuscan Grill (a high-end Italian steakhouse), Sushi on 5 (which serves exactly what you’d expect) and Qsine, which puts an unexpected twist on some familiar favorites. This last restaurant is quirky enough that it’s probably not for picky eaters. But meals here are as Instagrammable as they are experimental. The coffee shop onboard is Cafe al Bacio, which serves gelatos, pastries, and different coffees.

Celebrity Summit review

Suite and AquaClass guests can access two private dining areas, Luminae at The Retreat and Blu.

Fun Fact: When the ship debuted in 2001, the Normandie Restaurant was in the space where Tuscan Grill is now located. This was the line’s nod to the SS Normandie.

Public Spaces

Wandering the ship, it quickly becomes evident that each of the bars on board has a distinct personality. As a result, people tend to find the one which best meets their needs and become a regular there.

Celebrity Summit review

For me, it was the Cellar Masters wine bar (although a close second had to be the Sunset Bar). The latter is located at the rear of the ship on deck 10 and offers not only a very nice watering hole, but also a variety of seating options — perfect for gazing out at the sea — and often, live music.

Another popular space is the Martini Bar, which comes complete with an ice-top bar and bartenders who occasionally do some pretty nifty tricks. Right next to the Martini Bar is Crush, which features vodka flights (making it a great place to stop before heading to one of the nightly parties).

Celebrity Summit

One of the big differences between Celebrity cruise ship and their competition is that the casinos, fleet-wide, are smoke-free. As a result, the casino bar can be a pretty popular place, especially on rainy sea days and in the evening.

More than a few people could be heard raving (and, of course, complaining) about the fact they could hang out in the casino without dealing with the smoky atmosphere found on other ships.

Celebrity Summit

The forward-facing Sky Lounge on deck 11 is a great multi-purpose space. While it serves as the nightclub after dark, during the day the floor-to-ceiling windows and comfortable seating make it a great place to chillax. The bar here offers a nice twist by offering a drink for each astrological sign, in keeping with the “sky” theme (which is also reflected in the cool blue colors which dominate the space).

Celebrity Summit

Rounding out the collection of bars is the Rooftop Terrace, which is on the aft of deck 12 and reminds me of nothing so much as one of those great rooftop bars you find in New York City. There are comfortable chairs (including couches perfect for two), a massive screen on which to watch movies or sporting events, and a bar offering up all sorts of libations. The entire space is perfect for chilling, taking on a slightly different atmosphere after dark. The vibe feels slightly different… in an oddly inexplicable way.

Entertainment & Nightlife

Celebrity Summit

These days, most midsize ships tend to be big on through-the-decade type shows, and Celebrity is no different. They offer various production-cast type shows, depending on the sailing. On ours, we took in a performance of December ’63, featuring the music of Frankie Valli and the Four Seasons.

I’m not a show guy, but these performers knew their stuff, and the audience loved every minute of it.

Summit also offers something rarely seen on cruise ships, thanks to Celebrity’s partnership with the American Ballet Theater. Not only can you take in a ballet performance (at which you can, as did I, wonder how the heck they manage to remain on tippy-toe — which I now know is called “en pointe” — on a moving ship!) but sign up for a class.

Celebrity Summit

Wander the ship after dinner and find live music at various venues. Want to dance to music only you can hear? Hit the poolside Silent Disco. During the day, a live band usually entertains guests around the pool.

celebrity summit

People often ask how “lively” the ship is as the night progresses.

While the casino can stay hopping fairly late, and the nightclub can keep people dancing, generally speaking, this isn’t a ship on which you’ll find people rocking out until the wee hours of the morning. That crowd tends to go for ships with more bells and whistles than will be found on Summit , where the average age range probably skews between 40-60.

Spa and Fitness

Celebrity Summit

Bad news: You likely won’t be able to use “there wasn’t any available equipment” as an excuse not to hit the gym while on Summit, as there’s a nice selection of machines — if perhaps an overabundance of treadmills — in the fitness center. There’s also an upper-deck track on which you can jog, with seven laps equaling a mile.

Celebrity Summit

In conjunction with Celebrity’s partnership with the Canyon Ranch Spa, the revitalized spa promotes healthy living and wellness. You’ll find a variety of massages and treatments offered, along with beauty services.

The Persian Garden relaxation area (think: thermal spa) includes a eucalyptus-infused steam room, sauna, rain shower, and heated ceramic loungers perfectly positioned to relax while staring out at the ocean. (Guests staying in the Aqua Class staterooms have unlimited access to the Persian Garden.)

Directly outside the spa is the solarium, offering a thalassotherapy pool and complimentary healthy eating options at the Spa Cafe.

For the Kids

Let’s be honest: Celebrity is not necessarily the most kid-friendly cruise line. That’s not to say children aren’t welcome and parents won’t find things to keep them busy, but there aren’t waterslides, kiddie pools, and splash zones on Summit (or other ships in the fleet, for that matter). Camp at Sea is Celebrity’s kid club, and the spa teams up with them to offer mini manicures, pedicures, and the like. There’s also an arcade, ping pong, basketball, and more for the whole family.

Final Thoughts of Celebrity Summit

A few short months ago, Celebrity Summit was a ship that had seen better days. But as so often happens with older ships, an infusion of cash and a TLC-fueled dry dock have helped do something even better than restoring her former glory; it’s brought her into the modern age of cruising in a way that makes the ship worthy of the fleet in which she sails.

This ship won’t be for everyone, especially those with young kids, but for cruisers looking to set sail on a ship that feels new despite having been around the block (or the world) a few times, Summit will check all the boxes.

Celebrity Summit Cruise Review: Everything You Need to Know

Posted on Published: 11/14/2023

While I’ve always admired the sleek Celebrity Cruise Line ships from afar when docked at various ports, I had never sailed on this cruise line. Recently, for my annual friends’ cruise, we decided to go outside our comfort zone and sail on a new cruise line. We booked a four-night sailing on the Celebrity Summit, with stops in Nassau and Bimini Bahamas .

I enjoyed my experience on the Celebrity Summit and my first cruise with Celebrity Cruises. If you are considering sailing on this beautiful ship, read our Celebrity Summit review. Any questions? Leave us a comment below!

Disclosure: We paid full price for our sailing on the Celebrity Summit. This post contains affiliate links and a purchase/click through one of these links may result in a commission paid to us at no cost to you. All opinions are my own.

About the Celebrity Summit

The Celebrity Summit came into service on October 1, 2001. Her most recent refurbishment was in 2019, when Celebrity Summit completed The Celebrity Revolution with $500+ million in upgrades. The ship feels very modern, with a crisp, soothing decor.

The ship has 11 guest decks, with 1,079 staterooms, which can accommodate 2,158 guests, double occupancy. The ship never felt crowded during our sailing, but we did see plenty of people on board and in the public spaces.

Celebrity Summit Stateroom Types

There are lots of different options for staterooms when booking a sailing on the Celebrity Summit. You’ll choose your class of service and room type when initially booking. Here are some of the Celebrity Summit Cabins to choose from:

The Retreat is a full, premium experience for suite guests. It includes special areas just for retreat guests, including Luminae Restaurant, the Retreat Sundeck, and the Retreat Lounge as well as priority check-in. We didn’t have a suite, so I didn’t have the opportunity to check out these areas first-hand.

AquaClass is another perk level that includes access to the onboard restaurant Blu, complimentary access to the Persian Garden in the spa, a spa concierge, and special in-room amenities. AquaClass guests can take fitness classes at no cost.

Concierge Level is another option you can choose when booking a room. This is what we booked for our sailing. It came with a special sit-down embarkation lunch, an invitation to a sail away party on the Helipad (closed-toe shoes were required), a pillow menu, a bottle of sparkling wine, evening canapes delivered to the room, and access to a concierge.

We especially enjoyed the sit-down lunch on the first day in the main restaurant. It was relaxing, and a great way for us to sit with the schedule for our sailing and talk about our plans for the next four days.

Room types on the Celebrity Summit include the following:

  • Penthouse, Royal, Celebrity, and Sky Suites
  • AquaClass Staterooms
  • Concierge Class Staterooms
  • Family Verandah Rooms
  • Verandah Rooms
  • Ocean view Staterooms (window, but no balcony)
  • Inside Staterooms

Handicapped accessible staterooms are also available, in various stateroom types.

Our concierge room had a balcony, but it unfortunately was smaller than a regular balcony and had an obstructed view. It was fine for us because we didn’t spend much time in our stateroom with so much to do around the ship.

The room had a bed that could be turned into two twin beds, a chair, two bedside nightstands, use of umbrellas, binoculars, and robes, a television, and a hairdryer. We found that there was plenty of room in the closet and drawers to store our clothing and other items, and while the bathroom was small, there was ample space for toiletries.

The room decor is very pretty and neutral, with blue and tan tones and a gray wood finish. It felt modern and elegant.

Amenities and Activities on the Celebrity Summit

We had two port days and one sea day during our sailing, and there were plenty of activities scheduled to keep us busy. In addition, there are some great amenities on the ship to take advantage of during your time on board.

Pool Deck: We enjoyed two days sitting on the pool deck. There seemed to be plenty of chairs, some with some great shade and others in the bright sun. The deck offers pools and whirlpools, along with a bar and a grill.

Solarium: As adults traveling without kids, this was definitely our favorite area of the ship. The Solarium is 16+, with a few hours dedicated to families. It’s a glass-covered area with two hot tubs, the Solarium pool (which is salt water and very warm), a cafe, and lots of seating.

The Rooftop Terrace: An outdoor seating area with a large TV, and comfortable seating. There were many different movies and sporting events shown on the TV during our sailing, and some guests told me this was their favorite part of the ship.

Kids’ Clubs: While our sailing only had a handful of kids on board, there are some kids’ clubs to keep them busy. These clubs are separated by age groups and include many activities that the kids seemed to enjoy.

Casino: I don’t typically visit a casino on my sailings, but I did enjoy a quick slot tournament on our first day. The casino onboard offers tables and machines and isn’t smoky at all. There were times on the schedule where active participants could get complimentary drinks.

Shops: I always love to browse in the shops in the evening, and there’s a nice selection on board the Celebrity Summit. Options include duty-free goods, Effy jewelry, luxury handbags, logo merchandise, artwork, other jewelry, and more.

Spa: In addition to a full-service salon and spa, you can also book access to the Persian Garden, which includes saunas, steam rooms, and spa showers. There’s also a fitness center which is open to all guests, and classes, which are offered at an additional fee.

There was a lot of fun to be had on board as well. The app and a paper schedule list everything to do, with times and locations. Activities on our sailing included trivia, game shows, karaoke, entertainment shows, movies, comedy shows, and more. There were also several fun activities pitting the ship’s officers against guests.

We found a nice balance between attending activities, watching the entertainment, and sitting by the pool and in the Solarium.

Food and Restaurants on the Celebrity Summit

You’ll never be hungry on the Celebrity Summit. There are lots of options for food – some included and some specialty restaurants that are offered for an extra fee. Room service is also available.

Cosmopolitan Restaurant – this two-level restaurant serves as the Celebrity Summit main dining room. It’s a beautiful restaurant, with a menu that changes each night. You’ll be assigned a dining time and can eat here or choose one of the other options.

Oceanview Cafe – You can have breakfast, lunch, dinner, and late-night bites at the ship’s buffet restaurant, the Oceanview Café. There are lots of different cuisine types including Indian, Mexican, and Italian.

Our favorite, however, was the freshly made pizza. Don’t miss the croissants in the morning, though. You can even watch them being made.

Spa Cafe – If you are looking for some lighter fare, the Spa Cafe, located in the Solarium, offers some delicious options. I had lunch and breakfast here when hanging out at the pool deck, and enjoyed chicken salad, tomatoes with mozzarella, and avocado toast. You can also get smoothies and juice for an additional fee.

The Mast Grill – Spending the day at the pool deck? You won’t have to go far to get a quick lunch. The Mast Grill, right on the pool deck, offers hamburgers, hot dogs, and fries.

Qsine (Le Petit Chef) – Reservations and an additional fee are required for this incredibly unique restaurant. Watch a tiny chef “prepare” your meal using 3D mapping technology. It’s so fun and unique, but also delicious.

Tuscan Grille – This restaurant requires reservations and an additional fee. If you love Italian food, steak, and fish, it’s a great option. They also make homemade pasta, and you can get a half-order if you’d like to try something else as well.

Sushi on 5 – This a la carte restaurant serves sushi, sake, hot pot, and noodles. We didn’t eat there on our trip, but did walk by. Everything we saw looked delicious.

Café al Bacio & Gelateria  – I found myself visiting Cafe al Bacio twice a day during my cruise. This premium coffee shop offers traditional coffee drinks as well as teas and some unique offerings. You can order at the counter, or sit at one of the many tables and get table service.

They also have a display cafe filled with delicious treats. In the mornings, the Nutella croissants were a big hit. Then, in the afternoon, the case was filled with more traditional desserts.

Across the way, there’s another counter offering gelato for an additional fee. This cafe was one of my favorite places on the ship.

Because we weren’t in Aqua Class or the Retreat, we didn’t have a chance to dine in the two restaurants specific to those classes – Blu and Luminae.

There are also some great lounges and bars located throughout the ship, some of which had live music. These include the following:

  • The Sunset Bar
  • The Sky Lounge
  • Martini Bar and Crush
  • Rendezvous Lounge

Entertainment on the Celebrity Summit

When you sail on the Celebrity Summit, you’ll be treated to a different show each evening in the main theater. There are generally two different showtimes, which can accommodate most guests around their mealtimes. Some of the shows are performed by the cast of the Celebrity Summit, while others are performed with guest performers.

During our sailing, we had two guest performers – a singer and a comedian. Both were only onboard for our sailing, however, so this type of entertainment will vary for each cruise.

There were also two shows performed by the cast of the Celebrity Summit. Both were more concert-style than a show with a plot. I prefer shows rather than concerts, but I still enjoyed these productions.

Life was performed on our second night. This show features aerial gymnastics, as well as excellent vocalists, and a live band.

The second show was Soundtrack, featuring music from movies. The movies featured included Moulin Rouge, Pitch Perfect, the Wizard of Oz, and Singing in the Rain. I preferred this show to Life, but both were entertaining and worth attending.

Itineraries on the Celebrity Summit

During our four-night sailing, we traveled from the Port of Miami to Nassau and Bimini Bahamas. We arrived the night before our sailing and enjoyed an evening at the Marriott Vacation Club Pulse, South Beach . I would recommend staying there – it has beautiful rooms, is reasonably priced, and is in a great location.

The Summit will be sailing from Miami through April 2024. Ports of call during this time include Nassau and Bimini, Nassau and Cozumel, Key West and Bimini, Key West and Cozumel , Key West and Nassau, and Cozumel. These are four and five-night sailings.

Then, in April 2024, she moves to Los Angeles, CA, with a 14-day sailing through the Panama Canal. From there, she’ll sail from LA to Vancouver on a 6-night sailing. From there she’ll spend the summer on an Alaskan itinerary.

After Alaska, the Celebrity Summit sails back to the East Coast and settles into a home port of San Juan Puerto Rico.

I would highly recommend this ship for adults traveling solo or with older kids. While it was my first time on one of the Celebrity ships, it definitely won’t be my last.

Our cabin: inside stateroom, other cabins, cabin amenities, dining overview, cosmopolitan, waterfall café, poolside grill, renew aquaspa café, the normandie, in-room dining, drinks overview, rendezvous lounge, michael's club, champagne & martini bar, revelations, waterfall bar, spa & fitness, sun decks & open areas, lounges & public spaces, shows & entertainment, kids programs, staff & ship policies, health & safety.

The Summit offers one large, two-level main dining room, called the Cosmopolitan, that passengers can either visit during two traditional fixed seatings or on a more flexible basis using what the line calls its Celebrity Select plan. The ship also is home to La Normandie, an elegant restaurant that features historical, Art Deco decor that was salvaged out of the famed ocean liner, the SS Normandie. Other features of the ship include a number of lounges, bars, a theater, a casino, a large spa with a thalassotherapy pool, and deck-top areas with pools, hot tubs and other features.

{{ gallery "introphotos" }}

Unveiled in 2001, the Celebrity Summit is no longer the newest, hottest ship in the Celebrity Cruises fleet, but it remains a good choice for couples and retirees — particularly those living in the New York area looking for a close-to-home cruise option. The Summit is one of just a handful of vessels that sail regularly out of New York harbor to Bermuda and is perhaps the the most stylish of the choices. The Summit also is the only Celebrity Cruises ship offering regular sailings to the Southern Caribbean (in the winter, out of San Juan, Puerto Rico).

Like its three Millennium Class sisters, the Summit is a smaller, quieter vessel than Celebrity Cruises’ much-heralded new Solstice Class ships. It offers fewer restaurants and bars than the newer Celebrity ships, and fewer deck-top areas. That said, the Summit went into dry dock in late 2011 for a significant makeover that brought several new restaurants and other new features that first debuted on Solstice Class vessels, including a Mediterranean specialty restaurant called Blu and an ice-topped martini bar. Celebrity also revamped the decor of the ship, added more rooms and increased the number of balconies.

As on other Celebrity ships, the entertainment on Summit has more of a classy vibe than what is found on many big, mass-market vessels. There also are a wide range of enrichment programs on board such as history and art lectures, and cooking classes. And the spa is a major focus. Celebrity clearly is aiming at vacationers looking for a more elegant and formal experience than what is found on, say, the “Fun Ships” of Carnival. Depending on your personality, you may find this wonderful or boring.

While the Summit draws quite a few families during holiday periods, it isn’t our first choice for a family cruise as the ship lacks many of the child-pleasing activities found on the bigger ships of such lines as Royal Caribbean, Norwegian and Carnival (all three of which offer cruises to Bermuda out of the New York area that we find a better bet for families).

Celebrity Summit's cabins are located on decks two, three, and from six to nine. The inside rooms are the smallest, by far -- a very generous broom closet at about 170 square feet. You can get the same size room that offers an ocean-view, or as a deluxe version with a 38-square-foot balcony. Both the ocean-view and balcony rooms are available on decks Continental, Plaza, Panorama, Sky, and Vista (decks two, three, seven, eight, nine). Then there are concierge class suites with balconies (191 square feet for the cabin and additional 41 square feet for the balcony), sky suites with balconies (251 square feet for teh cabin and 57 square feet for the balcony), and 271-square foot family cabins that have huge 242-square-foot balconies.

Celebrity also offers 538-square-foot Royal Suites that have 195-square-foot balconies and even bigger, 1,432-square-foot Penthouse Suites that have 1,098-square-foot balconies. Both of these big suite categories feature European-style butler service with in-suite lunch and dinner service, afternoon tea, evening hors d'oeuvres, and complimentary espresso and cappuccino. They have separate living and dining areas. The Royal Suites features a whirlpool on the balcony. The Penthouses has two interactive entertainment systems. Now that's living.

The first thing we noticed when entering the room is that the entry is quite narrow. You can expect that from the smaller rooms on most cruise ships, though. The closet is directly behind the door, opposite of the bathroom. Next to the closet is a small dresser with vanity mirror, lights, and a very small storage place that’s already populated with wine glasses. Opposite the desk is a sofa bed for one person and a glass coffee table. On each side of the king-size bed is a night stand with drawers.

Light switches are placed by the door and by the bed, as well as next to the bathroom door. The room also has two 110-volt and two 220-volt plugs by the desk.

The king-size bed can be pushed apart to make two twin beds, so you needn’t cuddle anybody that you don’t want to. The bed itself is a bit soft, though not uncomfortable. The pillows could stand some replacing though, especially the decorative ones. The bedspread, too, has seen better days.

Inside rooms are designed for three passengers, but that would be quite a squeeze. There’s almost no space between the bed and the sofa bed. When the sofa is extended, getting out of the king bed is difficult. It gets worse. If you have to use the sofa bed then the coffee table has to move (it’s the Sliding Puzzle Blocks game, in essence). The only space for the coffee table is the entrance area, but doing so partially blocks the bathroom door and closet. It is a mystery to us how three people could have enough space here.

The desk opposite the sofa bed is humorously small, like they dared the designers to try and fit one in. In the corner of the closet, inside a shelf, is a really old, small TV. The is not a flat panel, nor HD, and the screen is tiny. The remote control doesn’t work very good and the the numbers are rubbed off.

Note that the Celebrity Summit has been slated for an overhaul in drydock in 2012 that, no doubt, will address many of these deficiencies.

Like the bedroom, the bathroom is very small. There’s only enough space for one person. The sink is a good size, though, and the counter is long enough for a lot of toiletries. The huge mirror makes the bathroom at least look bigger. Even though the bathroom was kept clean clean, the shower curtain was aged and in need of replacement.

The closet behind the door is big. There are a lot of hangers in the closet, as well as the life vests and two bathrobes. Another door to the left conceals six drawers and the safe.

We did not stay in the rest of these cabins, but we have summaries here provided by Celebrity Cruises. Note that any photos on this page may be provided directly by the cruise line and not our reviewer.

Our cabin, the Inside Stateroom, had limited amenities, but that’s typical. More expensive rooms come with some amazing features, like butlers. See table for complete run-down.

On the small shelf by the mirror are small bottles of lemongrass shampoo, conditioner, and lotion. Celebrity also provides cotton pads and two bars of soap.

Other than the old-style, built-in hair dryer in the bathroom, there are no appliances.

The mini bar has water, soda, beer, liquor, and red and white wine, all at an extra charge. It can be locked upon request.

Important numbers are on the phone’s speed dial. You can use the phone to call home, but brace yourself for the $7.95 per minute fee. There is no Internet connection in cabins; WiFi is only available at the ship’s iLounge, the Rendevouz Bar, Cards, and Martini Bar. This was one of the biggest red flags for indicating the age of the ship, although the dirty shower curtain and ragged pillows also were a tip-off.

The TV has an interactive menu where you can order room service, check your account, and order movies for $9.99.

The main restaurant on the Celebrity Summit is called Cosmopolitan, offering international cuisine. Cosmopolitan features dishes that change daily as well as dishes that remain on the menu all week. There are always chef recommendations and vegetarian dishes.

If you prefer buffets, don't miss the Waterfall Café, offering international breakfasts, lunch, and dinner. If you come in early enough (it opens at 6am for breakfast), the food is noticeably fresher.

Just outside the Waterfall Café is the Poolside Grill. Here, you can get freshly prepared burgers and hot dogs, a perennial poolside favorite.

Located by the spa, the Aquaspa Café offers healthy breakfast and lunch options.

The only specialty restaurant on the Celebrity Summit is the Normandie, serving French food. You can choose either the tasting menu, which costs $90, or eat a la carte for $40. Among other sumptuous dishes, the menu includes a pan-seared filet mignon and a crispy Loup De Mer, both of which are finished at the table.

The Cosmopolitan is quite large, extending over two levels. At the bottom of the main staircase is a statue that, by some accounts, was on the original SS Normandie. The two-story-high windows let sun pour in. There are so many tables jammed together that it’s a squeeze to get around during dinner rush. All tables are set with white table cloths and enough silverware for a couple of appetizers and main courses. The red chairs and carpet complete the sleek look. The Cosmopolitan’s dress code is smart casual: no flip flops, shorts, or swim wear. On formal nights the dress code is elegant.

Breakfast is available daily. The Cosmopolitan offers lunch only on sea days. Once a week, the Summit serves up a full brunch from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.

At night, the Cosmopolitan gets seriously rushed, no matter which time you choose to sit. On formal nights, the waiters serve a sherbet between dishes to clean the taste buds before serving the next dish.

The onion soup was amazing, with a thick crust of Gruyere atop tasty broth with herb croutons. The warm goat cheese tart with balsamic was also delicious.

As for entrees, we had good and bad experiences. The lobster was overcooked. The game hen looked tasty, but was still bloody. One night, we overheard another table order filet mignon three times before the cook got it medium rare. These were isolated incidents, however. The lamb was perfectly cooked, and we were big fans of the pork chop, too... though the marshmallow and sweet potato side felt out of place during summer in the Caribbean.

At dessert, samples are brought out for you to choose, including chocolate fudge cake, marzipan amaretto cake, different ice creams and sherbets, and – best of all – a chocolate souffle with vanilla sauce.

The Waterfall Café offers breakfast, lunch, and dinner buffets. As so many other buffet venues, it looks more like a cafeteria than a restaurant. If you’re in a hurry to eat something before you hit the pool, this is the perfect choice. Romantic it is not. Manned stations provide a huge choice of international dishes. Smaller stations with coffee, juices, and hot water are strategically positioned throughout the room.

Breakfast at the Waterfall Café includes some great international dishes, like English blood sausage, Russian blintz, and crepes. Of course, there are plenty of American breakfast choices too, like pancakes, bacon, eggs, and French toast. We also enjoyed an eggs benedict platter that featured international spins on the preparation, like the German version with sausage instead of ham.

A few healthier options, including cereals, yogurt, and fruits are also available.

Lunch and dinner are much the same at the Waterfall Cafe. There’s always pizza, pasta, a carving station, bread, and salads. For dinner the Summit also offers sushi, but only a couple of rolls. As the buffet seems to pride itself on international cuisine, we were able to find some delicious Indian food.

The wine list here is not very long. The Waterfall only offers wines by the glass, including Pinot Grigio, Riesling, Cabernet, Chianti, and Pinot Noir. Prices start at $5.50 for a glass of wine.

The Poolside Grill is not a very large area, but that shouldn’t be a problem because you can take your food anywhere you want. Grab a hot dog or a hamburger and head on over to your favorite sun deck.

At the Poolside Grill, the Celebrity Summit offers a few salads as well as hot dogs and hamburgers.

Renew is a not much more than a little area behind the Aquaspa, just a miniature buffet with one drink station. If you want to sit down you can do so at one of the tables around the pool.

For breakfast, Renew offers fruits, muesli, cereal, and yogurts, but also eggs and bacon. Guess they can’t all be healthy.

As with the breakfast, the lunch choices at the Aquaspa Café are very limited to not much more than some paninis and drinks.

Even the dessert at the Renew is healthy and sugar free.

The Normandie doesn’t just take its name from the SS Normandie, once the biggest cruise liner in the world; the eatery also is decorated with original paneling and ornamentation from the famed French ship. It really is beautiful décor. All tables are set with white table linen, silver underplates, fine china, and real candles.

Some items are finished tableside. It’s almost like dinner theater. The Summit offers a tasting menu for $90, with wine pairing, or an a la carte dinner for $40. Both are worth every penny. Early reservations are highly recommended.

As an amuse bouche, the waiters bring cold soup in a shot glass, in our case, shrimp mojito with orange and mango. We definitely didn't see that coming. Delicious surprises are always the greatest reward for dining out, aren’t they?

For appetizers, the menu offers pan-seared foie gras with a delicious duck rillette and an interesting ginger sauce. Among other dishes, we found the wild mushroom cappuccino with porcini ice cream to be among the most flavorful.

The main courses include lobster, risotto, duck breast, and the Normandie’s take on the “surf and turf.” If you want your food finished tableside, order either filet Mignon or loup de mer (European seabass). If you’re satisfied with food finished in the kitchen (we call that the boring way), we thought highly of the venison loin with celery fondant, spinach, red cabbage marmalade and lingonberry sauce.

Another nice touch in the Normandie: “Champagne high tea”, organized on the last day of the trip. For $25, you get several sandwiches and pastries, warm raisin scones, a glass of champagne, and loose teas. Now that’s the way to close a vacation.

The dessert menu offers a chocolate souffle and a dessert sampler with rose water creme brûlée, white chocolate mousse with raspberry, dark chocolate mousse, strawberries in a Pinot Noir sauce, apple crumble pie, and a mint sherbet. Every one of them was delicious. Another dessert is the mango souffle, a fluffy little cake made of egg whites with small mango bits at the bottom, topped with a mango sauce.

The extensive wine list in the Normandie includes many French vintners (no surprise), but also many from other great wine regions of the world. Wine pairing is only available for the tasting menu, but the sommelier will gladly help you find the right one.

The menu for room service is quite long when compared to other ships on which we have sailed. It takes 30 to 45 minutes for the food to be delivered, but sometimes a lot faster.

Breakfast is available from 6 am to 10 am. Use the door tag to order make sure you have it hanging outside by 4 am. Or forget the door hanger and just call when you wake up. Apparently that works, too. The menu includes egg dishes, bread, cereal, pastries, juices, and yogurts.

For lunch and dinner, the Summit offers different soups, like a New England clam chowder served in a freshly-baked bread bowl, salads, hamburgers, lasagna, steak, quesadillas, sandwiches, and a surprisingly delicious pizza.

Desserts include a double chocolate cake, cookies, raspberry cheesecake, fruit and cheese plates.

If you to drink something other than water, the room service menu offers beer, iced tea, San Pellegrino or Evian, and wine by the glass. The price for beer is $5 or $6. Wines start at $6.50.

The Celebrity Summit has variously themed bars, all with slightly different drink menus, but you can order any drinks from any venue, provided the bar tender knows how to make it and has all ingredients. The ship has beer and wine from all over the world, along with mixed drinks, soda, juices, and of course coffee and tea.

Alcohol is served only to adults over 21. Fake IDs are still fake in international waters.

Beer & Wine

The Celebrity Summit has a long and diverse wine list, with bottles from all over the world. Prices for a glass of wine start at $6, while the most expensive bottle of wine on the menu costs $3,500 (could this be true or just a typo? We didn’t order it to find out). Celebrity also has its own house vintage with white and red wines.

Beers include Heineken, Samuel Adams, Corona, Becks, Red Stripe, and a few more international brands.

Mixed Drinks

The bars and the restaurants offer plenty of mixed drinks, like margaritas, frozen drinks, martinis, and champagne cocktails. Isn’t that what a holiday in the sun is all about. Prices for mixed drinks start at $6.50

Drink Packages

The Celebrity Summit offers quite a choice of drink packages, from wine to non-alcoholic packages. There is a bottled water package for $12 a day, a soda package for $7 a day, a classic non-alcoholic package including soda, juices, teas, specialty coffee, and water for $14 a day, and a premium version of this package including all non-alcoholic cocktails and frozen drinks for $18 per day.

Of course, Celebrity also offers drink packages with alcohol. The classic package offers the same drinks as the non-alcoholic version plus beers up to $5, wine by the glass, cocktails, and spirits up to $8, and costs $44 per cruise day. For $10 more per day, the premium package offers the same drinks as the classic, but includes cocktails, frozen drinks, and spirits up to $12.

Celebrity also offers three wine package with a choice of 3, 5, or 7 bottles. The sommelier’s package includes a smaller assortment of wines and starts at $99 for 3 bottles, the captains package starts at $129 for 3 bottles. Or you can build you own wine package starting from $191.25 for three bottles, including any wine from Celebrity’s wine list at $75 or more.

Gratuity (15%) is not included in any of these packages and will be added onto the bill.

{{photo_gallery "Drink Packages Photos"}}

Non-Alcoholic Options

On the Summit you can get soda, different brands of bottled water (or regular tap water), premium teas and coffees, as well as non-alcoholic cocktails and frozen drinks.

The Rendezvous Lounge is located on deck four, very close to the Cosmopolitan bar. It’s quite big, has a dance floor and an open ceiling, and the walls here are paneled with dark wood. One section of the bar has blue and red striped chairs, another section has just red chairs, and a third area has beige and green chairs.

Rendezvous’ drink menu includes sangria, punch, mojitos, some frozen drinks, martinis, and plenty of other cocktails. Rendezvous also offers beer and wine, and some non-alcoholic mixed drinks as well. Prices start at $4 for non-alcoholic drinks, while cocktails and frozen drinks cost between $6 and $8.50.

During the day, Celebrity Summit hosts trivia games and video games (with an Xbox Kinect and Wii consoles) in the Rendezvous bar. At night, a live band plays easy listening and old hits that are great for dancing.

{{photo_gallery "Bar / Club 1 Overview Photos"}}

Located just off the photo gallery on deck four is Michael’s—a sleek place that looks like it should be a cigar bar, but isn’t (smoking is not permitted here). Michael’s has a an old-world feel, with unique armchairs, a fireplace (that can’t be used), and dark leather bar stools. The Chinese paintings on the walls were the only decor that didn’t mesh with Michael’s sleek style.

Michael’s primarily offers liquor ranging from the likes of sherry, whiskey, bourbon, tequila, vodka, brandy, cognac, and port. Prices start at $6 and go all the way up to $191 for the Hennessy Richard.

Activities at Michael’s include complimentary bourbon and whiskey tastings, as well as a premium wine tasting for $49 per person. The bar also features a piano with the occasional live musician.

{{photo_gallery "Bar / Club 2 Overview Photos"}}

The Champagne & Martini bar is located on deck five, with the bar being split into two distinct sides: the port side bar specializes in champagne and champagne cocktails, while the starboard side is where you can grab a mean martini. The bar is bright, lined with armchairs and tables, and at the center of the room is an open area that looks down onto the Rendezvous bar. You can even hear live music coming from Rendezvous, so there’s no need for a second live band to play here. The waiters here are experienced showmen in the art of juggling bottles and shakers while they whip up your drinks. It’s a pleasure to watch.

The two bar areas have different drink menus, but you can really get any drink you want on either side. Martini offerings range from classics to more unusual options like an espresso martini. Champagne cocktails include Bellinis, Rossinis, and Kir Royals. All champagne cocktails cost $8.50. Most martinis range from $6.50 to $10, but some may be more expensive depending on what you order.

There are martini tastings happy hour specials at the Champagne & Martini Bar, but the bar hosts no other planned events.

{{photo_gallery "Bar / Club 3 Overview Photos"}}

Located on deck ten, right by the pool, the Pool Bar has no real seating, but there are a few tables where you can set your drink down. If you don’t want to leave your pool-side haunch, a waiter from the Pool Bar will roam around and take your order (and bring it to you). The bar area does allow smoking as well.

The Pool Bar offers a lot of different frozen drinks and beer, but other drinks are available too. Prices start at $6.50 for mixed drinks and $4.50 for beer.

The pool bar offers some happy hours during the course of the trip. On sea days, a live band plays on the pool side, and crew members may encourage you to get up and dance.

{{photo_gallery "Bar / Club 4 Overview Photos"}}

Revelations is on deck 11 forward, just above the spa. The club’s primary attraction is dancing, but it also hosts live music and a late-night chocolate buffet. The decor at Revelations was mostly unimpressive, although we did find the cave-like design of the ceiling somewhat interesting. Revelations is usually empty during the day, so it can be a good spot to get away from the crowd.

Revelations offers the exact same drinks, with the exact same prices as the Rendezvous Lounge.

There are some karaoke events and happy hour times at the Revelations, and a live band plays here every night starting around 10 pm. On the final night of the cruise, the Summit hosts a decadent, late-night chocolate buffet at Revelations.

{{photo_gallery "Bar / Club 5 Overview Photos"}}

The Mast Bar is on deck 11 and is spread out over two parts: one overlooks the main pool area, while another hangs out over the Aquaspa. A small bench area is located on both sides of the bar.

The Mast bar offers the same drinks, at the same prices, as the Pool Bar

{{photo_gallery "Bar / Club 6 Overview Photos"}}

You’ll find the Waterfall Bar at the back of the ship, just behind the Waterfall Cafe. All the furniture here is made from teak wood—the chairs, tables, floors, even the bar itself. The Waterfall Bar can be a good place to eat an early breakfast so you can catch the sunrise over the ocean.

You can bring food from the Waterfall Café and eat it here. Both the Waterfall Café and Bar offer the same drink menus, featuring beer, non-alcoholic cocktails, and a short wine list.

Since the bar is mostly off the beaten track, it is quite empty at night.

{{photo_gallery "Bar / Club 7 Overview Photos"}}

The spa area is located on deck ten forward, right by the Aquaspa pool. The spa can’t accommodate too many people, so we recommend making an appointment early on if you want to go (there’s even an acupuncture facility on deck seven). The Aquaspa is a very nice area, but some wear and tear was evident in some places.

Treatments in the Aquaspa include a number of different facials and detox specials. The spa also offers a variety of massages, like hot stone, herbal poultice, aroma wrap, bamboo massage, as well as regular Swedish massage, deep tissue, and reflexology massages. Prices for facial treatments start at $107 and massages begin at $119. There are couples massages for $269, and, the absolute spa ritual, a 100-miute full-body massage and facial is available for $265.

You can have unlimited access to the spa’s Persian garden area, with its Turkish bath and aromatic rooms with heated benches, for $99 or $159 for couples.

Celebrity’s hair salon is part of the spa and offers all regular salon services: manicure, pedicure (regular, acrylic, and shellac), waxing, hair cuts and styles, as well as hair treatments. Teeth whitening treatments are available for $149, as is a fire and ice manicure and pedicure, for $50 respectively $70.

{{photo_gallery "Treatment Rooms Photos", "Hair Salon Photos"}}

Fitness Center

The fitness center, located in the Aquaspa, is smaller than the fitness areas on some other similarly sized cruise ships. Still, the center offers access to cardio and weight machines, free weights, and an area for stretching. The cardio machines are very popular, so it wouldn’t be a surprise to have to wait for a machine at the fitness center.

Two complimentary classes are offered—morning stretch and fab abs. Other classes, like yoga, pilates, and spinning, are offered for a fee of $12 per class. The Aquaspa fitness center also offers a boot camp class with multiple sessions (depending on the length of your voyage), including a health check and a home program.

{{photo_gallery "Fitness Center Photos"}}

The Celebrity Summit has two ping pong tables—one on deck ten and one on deck eleven—in the room just off the Conservatory (where the golf simulator used to be).

{{photo_gallery "Sports Activity 1 Photos"}}

In the same room off the Conservatory that houses the ping pong table, you’ll find a dart board. Darts are available at the guest relations desk on deck three.

{{photo_gallery "Sports Activity 2 Photos"}}

Shuffleboard

There are three large shuffleboards on the ship: two on either side of the promenade and one outside on deck eleven. All the equipment you need to play are located by the shuffleboard courts.

{{photo_gallery "Sports Activity 3 Photos"}}

Sportscourt

There’s a playing field with basketball hoops and small soccer goals on deck 12. Unfortunately, the field wasn’t in good condition. One of the basket ball hoops was missing and there were a number of holes and divots in the court—a rather disappointing sight.

{{photo_gallery "Sports Activity 4 Photos"}}

The jogging track spirals around deck eleven, going around all the sun lounges and chairs. Three laps is equal to 5/8 of a mile (or one kilometer).

{{photo_gallery "Sports Activity 5 Photos"}}

Waterfall Pool

The Waterfall pool is the main pool of the Summit, which includes four hot tubs in the same area. Surrounding the pool are cushioned lounge chairs and sun chairs. A towel stand is located at one end. The poolside bar provides everybody with drinks, and is located on the smoking side of the pool area. That’s where all the cool kids hang out.

{{photo_gallery "Pool Area 1 Photos"}}

Aquaspa Pool

The thalassotherapy pool is filled with salt water, ionized, and heated. In the nooks on both sides are several powerful jets that get the water to a good, bubbling action. You can sit on the ionization bars. On one side of the pool is a fresh water hot tub if you’re feeling overly-salted in the ocean water. There are also fresh water showers, as Celebrity asks everybody to shower before going into the pool.

This area is much quieter than the main pool, but it fills up fast on sea days. The teak lounge chairs are placed around the pool and overlook the ocean. It’s a beautiful, peaceful space. Thankfully, kids under 16 are not allowed.

{{photo_gallery "Pool Area 2 Photos"}}

The kids pool is located at the other end of the adults area, on deck eleven. It’s just a small pool – nothing like the super-size kiddie pools found on larger, more family-oriented ships.

{{photo_gallery "Pool Area 3 Photos"}}

The promenade is located on deck four, but it does not go around the entire ship. The front is blocked by the Cosmopolitan restaurant, and the rear is for crew only. There are some lounge chairs on deck four if you’d like to sit someplace dry, away from the splashing of the pool. The promenade is wide enough for a couple of people to walk side-by-side. Note that the port-side is the smoking area.

You can visit deck 5, but it’s just a small space on both sides of the ship with access to the life boats. There’s no real lounge or sunning area here.

{{photo_gallery "Deck Area 1 Photos"}}

Deck 11 is the biggest sunning area on the Celebrity Summit, with lounge chairs and upright chairs along both railings and in nooks along the side of the ship. The Mast bar is located midships, so nobody has to go far for a drink (not that you ever do on a cruise ship).

{{photo_gallery "Deck Area 2 Photos"}}

On deck 12 forward are more loungers and chairs. This area is very quiet and windy most days. There is no beverage service here.

{{photo_gallery "Deck Area 3 Photos"}}

There are three lounges on the Celebrity Summit: the Cova Cafe, iLounge internet cafe, and a game room called Cards.

The Milanese-style Cova Café offers specialty coffee drinks, like cappuccino or espresso, as well as tea and coffee cocktails (or other alcoholic drinks like wine or grappa). Small sandwiches or pastries are also available here, and prices for coffee start at $3.

{{photo_gallery "Lounge / Café 1 Photos"}}

Celebrity Summit’s internet cafe, iLounge, is located on the port side of deck five and on decks six and seven midship. WiFi is also available on deck three in the conference rooms, on deck four in the Rendezvous, on deck five in the Cova Cafe and the Martini Bar, and on deck ten in the Waterfall Cafe.

Since the Summit is a certified Apple retailer, it should come as no surprise that the iLounge is equipped with MacBook laptops. Some classes and activities where you can learn how to use Apple products are offered for $15 (or $25 for unlimited access to these classes).

{{photo_gallery "Lounge / Café 2 Photos"}}

Cards is located on deck five port side, just above the iLounge. It’s the game room of the Summit and you can find checkers, decks of cards, and some board games there.

{{photo_gallery "Lounge / Café 3 Photos"}}

Conference Rooms

The Celebrity Summit has a few conference rooms on deck three that can be rented prior to setting sail.

{{photo_gallery "Conference Rooms Photos"}}

The library is very cozy and is spread out over two levels. It is located midship on decks eight and nine.

{{photo_gallery "Libraries Photos"}}

Religious Services / Prayer Rooms

Religious services are offered during major Catholic and Jewish holidays.

Celebrity Theater

The Celebrity Theater is spread out over two levels on the Summit (decks four and five). Each night, a different show plays in the theater—a variety of musicals, comedies, dance shows, etc. All shows are free of charge and play twice a day. The first seating is at 7 pm (to accommodate those who are eating at the late dinner seating), and the second show is at 9 pm (for those who are eating during the early dinner seating).

{{photo_gallery "Shows & Performances Photos"}}

Movie Theater

The Celebrity Summit has a small movie theater on deck three that can be used for meetings. It also shows major feature films at specific times.

{{photo_gallery "Movie Theater Photos"}}

The arcade is on deck eleven, next to the children’s area, and offers a few older games.

The Cards cafe is the place to go for all kinds of card games and board games. Celebrity Summit also organizes the occasional game of Bingo as well.

The Fortunes Casino is located on deck four, very close to the photo gallery. The design of the casino is very European, with lots of red, gold, dark walls, and statutes. There’s a bar here too, which provides gamblers with drinks (not for free, though).

There are hundreds of slot machines in the Fortunes Casino, with the cheapest option being penny slots.

In the center of the casino are several poker and blackjack tables. The minimum bet at the tables is one dollar, the maximum bet is $500.

There are two roulette and craps tables rounding out the casino’s gambling options.

The Casino has its own bar and servers that will get you any drink you want. Just keep in mind that these drinks aren’t free like they are in Las Vegas casinos. You can expect to pay as much for your drink here as you would at any other bar on the ship.

The more points you earn gambling in the Casino, the better your reward: it starts with a key chain (250 points) and ends with a dinner for two at the Normandie (25,000 points).

{{photo_gallery "Casino Overview Photos", "Slot Machines Photos", "Card Games Photos", "Tables Photos"}}

The Shipmates Factory, the ship's children's area, is located on deck 11 aft. Another area, the Tower (deck eleven forward) is for older kids and teens. Both areas were not open to adults, so we couldn't get access.

{{photo_gallery "Children's Areas Photos"}}

The Conservatory

The Conservatory is the only retailer located on deck eleven, and you’ll find it just above the Waterfall Café. It’s decorated with real plants, which makes sense because the store sells flowers and bouquets, as well as vases and bowls with embedded flowers.

{{photo_gallery "Retail Outlet 1 Photos"}}

The Emporium

All sorts of shops can be found in the Emporium. Sales events and information on shopping at the ports of call also take place here.

{{photo_gallery "Retail Outlet 2 Photos"}}

Art Gallery

The Art Gallery sells accessories, jewelery, hats, and knickknacks for $10 each.

{{photo_gallery "Retail Outlet 3 Photos"}}

Liquor Store

Cigarettes, cigars, and liquor are sold duty free in the liquor store, but you can also find aspirin, tooth paste, and other toiletries you might have forgotten here.

{{photo_gallery "Retail Outlet 4 Photos"}}

Boutique C is the jewelry and cosmetic shop on the Celebrity Summit. It carries designer watches, rare chocolate and blue diamonds, as well as pearl jewelry, and brand cosmetics from Lancome to Clinique.

{{photo_gallery "Retail Outlet 5 Photos"}}

The Celebrity Boutique sells brand clothing and accessories, Celebrity branded luggage and sportswear, and fashion jewelry.

{{inline_gallery "deckplan"}}

Overall the staff was very attentive to our needs, and we were impressed with their ability to remember passenger preferences. Room attendants were pleasant and personable, and they tried to respond to requests as quickly as possible. Instead of towel animals whenever our room was cleaned (a popular feature on other cruise ships), the stewards on the Summit left us a different piece of chocolate every night. We’re not sure which we liked better, but since the Summit has less restaurants than other ships, we didn’t mind the extra snack.

We did run into a few small problems in our room: the TV menu didn’t work, and, on the first day, our toilet didn’t flush properly. Our steward worked diligently to make things right, however, and everything was fixed eventually (although the fixing of the TV took longer than expected—not the steward’s fault). The waiters in both the main dining room and the Normandie were speedy and remembered our food and drink preferences. One of our travel companions tipped their steward in cash, and got some fruits (instead of chocolate), as well as new bed sheets every night, in return.

Celebrity automatically adds a $11.50 per person gratuity to your final bill for every day you spend on the cruise. In addition, for every drink you order at a bar you can expect to automatically pay an extra 15% gratuity as well. If you want even better service, you can always tip your waiter or room attendant some extra cash as well.

Dress Codes

The overall dress code on the ship is smart casual, with the only true casual place on the ship being the Waterfall Cafe. There are formal nights and events that require more elegant attire as well—suits for men and dresses for women.

Loyalty Programs

After one cruise with Celebrity, you can enroll in the rewards program called Captain’s Club. There are three member levels: classic members (tiers 1-4) receive access to the Captain’s Club celebration and some exclusive onboard offers, select members (tiers 5-9) receive discounted internet and laundry service specials, and elite members (tiers 10+) get all of the above, plus access to the Captain’s Club lounge.

Celebrity uses tiers rather than points to determine the membership level, and there are various ways you can climb up the ladder. The easiest way is to simply go on more Celebrity cruises.

General Safety

The mandatory safety drill is held on embarkation day, and the crew has a second drill during the voyage. Fire extinguishers and life vests are located prominently throughout the ship, and life boats are found on deck five.

The medical facility is on deck one, by the gangway, and is open daily from 8 am to 11 am and from 4 pm to 7 pm. The facility sells basic painkillers like aspirin, but it might be cheaper to grab something from the liquor store to cure your pain.

Smoking Regulations

Generally, smoking is prohibited in most areas on the Celebrity Summit. It’s not allowed in any rooms, on the balconies, or anywhere inside. Only on one side of the promenade and the pool area is smoking permitted.

First introduced in 2001, the 2,218-passenger Celebrity Summit was most recently renovated in March 2019 and offers unique activities like a rooftop terrace with an outdoor movie screen. The renovation added new staterooms, lounge areas and more. Cruisers looking for some R&R can retreat to the spa, the outdoor pool or the adults-only indoor solarium. Meanwhile, children ages 3 to 17 can participate in pool games and Xbox tournaments at Camp at Sea.

When it comes to dining, there are nine venues on board, including a handful of specialty spots (for an added fee) serving up creative cuisine ranging from French to Italian fare. While some recent cruisers noted long lines and average food at the buffet, most travelers were in agreement when it came to the wait staff and room stewards: service was prompt and friendly.

Speaking of rooms, Summit offers the same four cabin categories found on other Celebrity ships (Inside, Ocean View, Veranda and Suite). About half of the cabins on board feature balconies. Cruisers will find flat-screen TVs, bathrobes and 24-hour room service in all staterooms.

Celebrity Summit sails in the Caribbean, Alaska and more.

In 1997, Royal Caribbean International (RCI) merged with "Celebrity Cruises Ltd" to become "Royal Caribbean Cruises Ltd" (RCCL). The "X" on ship funnels is the Greek letter chi (standing for "Chandris"). Common features of Celebrity Cruises ships include aft located glass-walled dining rooms, signature alternate dining venues, bars and lounges, spacious Atrium lobby areas, a large number of balcony staterooms, large sundecks with swimming pools, The Retreat (adults-only sundeck with full-size swimming pool, Jacuzzi, cabanas, poolside full bar service). Celebrity Summit cruise ship

The 2200-passenger ship Celebrity Summit was built by Chantiers de l'Atlantique (shipyard in St Nazaire France ) and launched as "GTS Summit" for Celebrity Cruises and renamed to "Celebrity Summit" in 2008. The Summit ship features a special restaurant with original panels and ornamentation from SS Normandie, including the bronze statue "La Normandie" bought in 2001 from Fontainebleau Hotel in Miami, Florida.

Decks and Cabins

Celebrity Summit staterooms (1079 total, in 28 grades) include 50x Suites, 573x Balconies, 244x Oceanviews, 212x Inside cabins. Most staterooms are sized 170 ft2 / 16 m2. The largest are the Penthouse Suites (1430 ft2 / 133 m2 with wraparound terrace sized 1100 ft2 / 102 m2).

The boat has 12 passenger decks , of which 8 are with cabins.

Shipboard dining options - Food and Drinks

The 2-level Cosmopolitan Restaurant has sophisticated decor that is accented by the 7-foot-high bronze statue La Normandie, of a woman who is draped like the goddess Athena. This statue, created by Art Deco sculptor Leon-Georges Baudry, originally graced the smoking room in the legendary SS Normandie. The dining room has a sweeping staircase specially created for grand entrances on formal nights. It also boasts a 2-level glass wall with panoramic views. Blu is exclusive to guests sailing in AquaClass cabins. It features modern decor and spa-inspired cuisine. The restaurant features lighter dishes and smaller portions of what you typically find in the MDR or buffet. On the casual front, the Oceanview Cafe serves buffet breakfast, lunch, and dinner. It provides various carving stations, pasta dishes, pizza, antipasti, made-to-order omelets, and internationally inspired dishes, including British bangers and Indian curries.

The atmosphere onboard Celebrity Summit is calm and sophisticated. Guests have no chance to miss the magnolia garden and the swimming pools (outdoor and indoor). As a special surprise, the vessel has teamed up with Cirque du Soleil for a nice sea experience. As part of this experience, in the evening people onboard are invited to enter into another world of sounds, visual effects, and mystical lights, to taste specialty drinks and hors-d'oeuvres. The gym equipment is at the top level, and there are also 16 treatment rooms. Ship's Aquadome and Riviera include 4 swimming pools, 2 air beds, 6 whirlpools, a bandstand, dance floor, sun shop, and buffet for post-swim snacks. There are basketball and football fields, table tennis and volleyball, as well as golf simulator and jogging track.

Itineraries

Celebrity Summit itinerary program is based on 7-day Caribbean roundtrips with departures from San Juan Puerto Rico . During summer, the ship cruises to Bermuda leaving from NYC (Cape Liberty, New Jersey) . The liner also cruises to Canada-New England on Fall Foliage voyages.

In 2017, Summit inaugurated the Bermuda voyages from Bayonne NJ and a 9-day Canada-New England itinerary. In 2018, the ship was homeported in Fort Lauderdale . Caribbean itineraries included 4-day roundtrips to Key West and Nassau, and 5-day roundtrips to Key West and Cozumel Mexico, with several sea days.

In 2019, the liner started a North American season with an expanded program including 19 destinations in 7 countries. Summit also offered more in-port hours at record 56 stops, docking in 39 call ports for over 12 hours. New 10-day itineraries in summer 2019 visited Charleston SC and Bermuda/Hamilton. A new 7-day itinerary visited Bermuda with Newport RI and also circles Liberty Island (Upper New York Bay). In August, the ship offered two Transatlantic crossings between North America and Europe (14-day itineraries NYC to Dublin , then the westbound from Dublin to Boston). Both voyages visited Greenland (company's first time) - Prins Christian Sund and Qaqortoq. Following the summer season, the ship started homeporting in Flynn Cruiseport Boston for 10-11-12-day Canada and New England Fall Foliage cruises.

Celebrity Summit's 2023 itinerary program (August thru October) is based on 11-night itineraries (one-ways from homeports Boston MA USA and Quebec City ) visiting port destinations in New England and Canada. The voyages include the maiden for the fleet port Rockland ME and overnight stays in Quebec City. Follows a program with roundtrips to Bermuda ( Royal Naval Dockyard in King's Wharf ) with 7-9-10-night roundtrips from New York (Port Cape Liberty Bayonne NJ/NYC) , some of which visit Newport RI , Charleston SC , Martha's Vineyard Island (Oak Bluffs, Massachusetts) . After Bermuda (August 2023) are scheduled two 12-night itineraries visiting Iceland and Greenland - eastbound from NYC and the reverse/westbound from Reykjavik (Iceland) .

Celebrity Summit Wiki

Celebrity Cruises Summit ship is one of company's Millennium-class liners, with sisterships Constellation , Infinity , Millennium . Originally named "GTS Summit", this is the 3rd Millennium-class vessel with inaugural cruise/maiden voyage on October 1, 2001.

The Summit cruise ship was extensively drydock refitted and refurbished ("Solsticized") in January 2012. During the 3-week long drydock, all public spaces and staterooms were renovated, 60 cabins and 107 AquaClass cabins were added. AquaClass passengers have free access to the specialty restaurant Blu and Persian Garden's thermal suite. They also enjoy Hansgrohe spa showers in the cabin bathrooms. Among the other Solstice-class upgrades were the replacement of Champagne Bar (with Martini Bar), Qsine replaced the Conservatory Lounge, Internet Cafe is now iLounge.

Fun fact about the Summit ship is that its main restaurant is decorated with original SS Normandie (1932-built ocean liner) ornamentation and panels, including the "LA NORMANDIE" (bronze statue) bought from Fontainebleau Hotel in 2001.

Celebrity Summit refurbishment 2019 review

Ship's March 2019 drydock (done in Freeport Bahamas ) resulted in the following changes:

  • The vessel received company's new color scheme (hull and superstructure).
  • All passenger staterooms were redesigned (via partnership with Hirsch Bedner Associates USA, and Kelly Hoppen UK) for a boutique hotel feel. All cabins were upgraded with "Celebrity eXhale" bedding (cashmere mattresses), electronic locks (RFID technology), Xcelerate (fast Internet), Bluetooth capabilities.
  • The completely redesigned Qsine Restaurant was added. It offers "Le Petit Chef" (virtual dining-entertainment experience) created by Skullmapping and presented by TableMation Studios - exclusively for Celebrity Cruises.
  • Main Dining Rooms, Oceanview Cafe (buffet restaurant) and Sunset Bar were redesigned and upgraded with new textures and finishes.
  • The SPA was upgraded with an expanded SEA Thermal Suite.
  • Retail shopping was expanded with new brands - including Hublot (luxury Swiss watches) and Shinola (luxury watches, jewelry, premium leather goods).
  • Luminae Restaurant (Suites-only) was redesigned and new custom-made menus (by chef Cornelius Gallagher) were introduced.
  • Added was The Retreat (adults-only sundeck) with full-size swimming pool, Jacuzzi whirlpool, private cabanas, padded loungers, poolside bar service (food and drinks).
  • Most public venues (including all bars and lounges) were renovated, including Passport Bar (Atrium lobby bar lounge) and Gastrobar (serving 40+ craft beers).
  • The refurb project was supervised by Trimline (UK).

Summit became fleet's 2nd liner (after Millennium) upgraded by the "Celebrity Revolution" fleet renovation program - budgeted USD 500 million and scheduled for the period 2019-2023.

Celebrity Summit Review: A Refreshed Cruise Ship

Back in 2019, while the Celebrity Edge was grabbing headlines, the Celebrity Summit was subtly undergoing a significant makeover.

low 1692052714 Celebrity Summit

Now, four years later, it’s worth reflecting on how this once understated, classic vessel received a revamp that made many take a second glance. We had the privilege of embarking on this newly reimagined ship shortly after its renovation.

The previous refit put Summit’s amenities in line with Celebrity Cruises’ Solstice class ships.

It’s amazing how something as simple as the colors chosen for furnishings and other design elements can transform a space from stuffy to contemporary, as has happened in numerous public areas around Summit.

That crowd tends to go for ships with more bells and whistles than will be found on Summit, where the average age range probably skews between 40-60.
