Who's more iconic than Madonna? We'll wait. As a musician, actress, and pop culture icon, she's a singular force — and that's before we even get into her influence in the fashion world. From her "Like a Virgin" white lace dress to her "Material Girl" gown to her Jean Paul Gaultier cone bra, Madge has proven that she can reinvent herself in every era. Ahead, look back at some of Madonna's best and most memorable looks ever.

At the first annual MTV Video Music Awards, the icon was the perfect "edgy virgin bride" in a lingerie wedding dress, cheeky "boy toy" belt, and fingerless gloves. She admitted to doing her own makeup, topping off her look with a red lip. "Red is the sexiest a mouth can ever look," says makeup artist Pat McGrath. "It's dangerous too. Very Madonna, and very Hollywood."

It was Madonna's world and we were all living in it! In her "Material Girl" video, the star was the picture of luxury in an over-the-top hot pink dress (one of the first of many looks she has worn à la Marilyn Monroe). Covered in plenty of diamonds and surrounded by fellas, she was a star and fashion icon on the rise.

To pick up her Favorite Pop/Rock Female Video Artist trophy at the American Music Awards, the star channeled Monroe again in a body-hugging dress and majorly bold brows. "The red lips and beauty mark were her signature at the time," says makeup artist Gina Brooke.

Continuing her streak of bold beauty looks, Madonna showed off in an LBD with cutouts and an oversized denim jacket. "She's great at picking up the next big thing," says DSquared2 designer Dan Caten.

Her outfits of lacy under-outerwear accessorized with dime-store bangles and crucifixes made her a fashion icon to thousands of wannabes. Here, the singer gave an electric performance on stage in a pair of baggy trousers that she sexed up with a lacy corset top.

Hello cone bra! Madonna debuted her iconic Jean Paul Gaultier top while performing during her Blonde Ambition tour. "She doesn't take on trends, she creates them," says hairstylist Andy LeCompte. "That's why she likes taking risks."

Only Madonna could commands courtiers to "vogue" at the MTV Video Music Awards! She gave an epic performance of her hit song of the same name in a Material-Girl-meets-Marie-Antoinette ensemble.

Talk about a style 180! At the MTV Video Music Awards, the star proved her ability to make menswear sexy by exposing her bra and adding a major updo. "This is very Catherine Deneuve in Belle de Jour—big hair with lots of teasing," says hairstylist Garren.

"Only I could understand her passion and pain," Madonna said of her role in Evita . For the premiere of the film, she wore a sophisticated red satin Christian Dior number and head topper that channeled the late Eva Perón, but still felt sexy. "It's a brilliant look for Madonna, fantastic," says hairstylist Martin Samuel.

In the MTV Video Music Awards opening number (which contained two of the most talked about kisses in history), Madonna's menswear look contrasted that of virgin "brides" Britney Spears and Christina Aguilera. Post-show a ruckus ensued, proving that the singer could still create headlines. "She's always up for the unexpected," said the VMA's executive producer Salli Frattini.

This wasn't the first time the icon went without pants, and it wouldn't be the last. At the MTV European Music Awards, Madonna was "Hung Up" in a purple bodysuit, matching leather jacket, and knee-high boots.

Where Madonna goes, a fabulous party always seems to follow. The star revealed her feminine side at the Vanity Fair Oscar Party in a plunging ruched Versace dress that gave "pretty in pink" a new meaning.

At the Metropolitan Museum of Art's Costume Institute Gala, the singer chose a bold Louis Vuitton creation and out-of-this-world headpiece that certainly got people talking. "I don't trust anyone else's taste but my own," Madonna said.

Madonna looked ravishing at the Venice Film Festival in a custom-made Vionnet gown adorned with red butterflies and a pair of glittering sunglasses. "Madonna is a chameleon," says stylist Arianne Phillips, "so she makes the most beautiful canvas."

Look up "fabulous" in the dictionary, and you'll see Madonna's name. At the premiere of W.E. , the star nailed the red carpet in an organza and velvet Marchesa design that oozed elegance — a far cry from many of her more flamboyant outfits.

For an epic appearance at the Super Bowl XLVI Halftime Show, the singer proved she can go from elegant to outrageous in one minute flat. The star performed in a custom Givenchy costume that crossed a Roman gladiator with Cleopatra. "I think you have to try on a lot of guises before you know who you are," Madonna said.

Bra-bra-bra-voom! Never one to keep perfectly good lingerie hidden, she brought back her classic cone bra silhouette during her her MDNA Tour in London.

No pants, no problem! At the Costume Institute Gala for the Punk: Chaos to Couture exhibition, Madonna took on the theme in head-to-toe Givenchy Haute Couture complete with a black wig making sure to grab attention.

Madonna: model boy scout? At the 24th Annual GLAAD Media Awards, the queen of controversy showed her support by making a political statement and adding a rebellious edge to her spin on the traditional uniform.

What a glove! Madonna made headlines in a Ralph Lauren tuxedo and matching black hat that was chosen by her son, David (who wore a similar look), at the 56th Annual Grammy Awards. "She never does anything halfway," says designer Catherine Malandrino. "When she was breaking sexual taboos, she did it totally. When she decided to become a mom, she did it totally."

Madonna is in charge! Following the release of her music video "Living for Love," the first off her 13th studio album Rebel Heart , the singer carried over the video's matador theme onto the Grammys red carpet in a custom black and lilac Givenchy ensemble that had everyone doing a double take.

At 57 years old, the singer proved she can still turn heads. She showed up for the 2016 Met Gala in a breast-bearing cutout ensemble that put on a cheeky display from behind.

The style icon gave a moving tribute performance to another of fashion's greatest stars at the 2016 Billboard Music Awards. Madonna honored her late friend Prince in a paisley purple three-piece suit with Victorian ruffle detailing on the sleeves. She completed her look with wild curls, platform shoes, and a bedazzled baton.

Madonna and Moschino: a match made in fashion heaven. The superstar wore a camo design by Jeremy Scott for Moschino at the 2017 Met Gala; it may not have quite fit the "Rei Kawakubo/Comme des Garcons: Art Of The In-Between" theme, but hey, she's Madonna.

On the other hand, for the "Heavenly Bodies: Fashion & The Catholic Imagination" Met Gala in 2018, Madonna was right on theme in her Jean Paul Gaultier gown. Fittingly, she also performed at the event.

Grande debuted several new outfits throughout the opening night of her highly-anticipated tour, which was styled by Grande's frequent collaborator, Law Roach.

She started the show in a red belted ensemble with her signature thigh-high boots while hitting the stage for "God is a Woman." 

She then changed into a pink outfit with large ruffled sleeves and a matching half-skirt, which she wore for hits like "Side to Side" and "7 Rings."

Next up was a purple number with matching saggy thigh-high boots she wore while performing songs like "Breathin'" and "Needy."

Grande also wore a bold orange ensemble with semi-sheer boots for fan-favorites like "The Light is Coming."

She then wore a billowing black PVC minidress for "No Tears Left to Cry."

Grande then ended the show by singing her massive hit "Thank U, Next" in her most colorful look of the night.

The night we’ve all been waiting for is finally here! That’s right, you guys, on Monday, March 18, Ariana Grande ‘s Sweetener Tour officially began, and OMG… it’s even better than we imagined. It kicked off at the Times Union Center in Albany, New York, and we’ve got all the details for you.

Ari sang 29 songs in total, mixing tunes from her newest albums, “ Thank U, Next ” and “ Sweetener ,” as well as old classics like “Love Me Harder,” “Break Free,” “One Last Time,” and more! Not only did the songstress sing her heart out, but she also absolutely slayed the stage with her choreography. And don’t even get us started on her outfits. Ugh, it seriously looked AMAZING.

But there were also a few sad moments throughout the show. Like when the 25-year-old paid tribute to her ex-boyfriend Mac Miller , who unfortunately died of an overdose last year. The singer played his single “Dang!” right before she hit the stage. And according to fans that attended the show, the former Victorious star cried while performing “Everytime,” “Goodnight N Go” and “Thank U, Next.”

Grande's 7 Outfits, All With Matching Over-the-Knee Boots

Grande surprised fans with several outfit changes during her show, and her tour wardrobe contained several dramatic pieces, styled by Law Roach, in colors as striking as orange and as subdued as lavender.

There was an orange puffer coat, bralette, scalloped skirt, and matching knee-high boots. The boots and skirt were made custom for Grande by Unravel:

A red belt top with an attached choker and princess sleeves, knee-high boots, and a belted miniskirt:

A yellow and blue plaid Clueless- esque pleated miniskirt, bralette, and thigh-high boots:

A black patent mini dress with thigh-high boots:

An all-pink ensemble made custom by Michael Ngo: a light pink tiered skirt, bralette, and winged sleeve component. Over-the-knee boots completed that look too, obviously:

Plus, she added a graffitied pink jacket later on:

Grande's most NASA-inspired look was the striking lavender ensemble she wore under her set's giant moon: lavender zip-up chaps, a matching sleeveless top, and silver boots. Those were also custom, by Michael Ngo:

Grande's Minimalist Set Design

Grande's minimalist backdrop changed over the course of the set, with the help of jaw-dropping light projections. Umbrellas and other more abstract shapes took over the backdrop as the music progressed, and at one point, a giant moon appeared.

Fans shared videos all night of Grande's spirited vocal performances and dancing.

Grande's Feelings About Her First Show (and Miley Cyrus's Sweet Comment About It)

Grande posted nine Instagrams from her first night on tour. She personally gave a glimpse of her giant moon set on stage and herself singing "7 Rings" and "Successful."

Her captions were emotional following the singer's huge night. "I really dunno what to say yet. for now, thank you will suffice. a dream come true typeeaa night. i love you. so much. thank you," she wrote in one.

"Mhmm my mind is all over the place and v emotional," she wrote in her second. "Thank u. i don’t know what i’m posting rn tbh. at all. i’ll hit u tomorrow bc.... tonight was too much. thank you thank you thank you. i love you. and i yeah. i love this song @pharrell. i love u @alfredoflores."

Her friend Miley Cyrus left a supportive comment on one of Grande's Instagrams. "It's all looking very nice. Minimal and beautiful. I love. Can't wait to see," Cyrus wrote.

Grande Paid Tribute to Her Late Ex Mac Miller During the Show

Fans at the show noted that before Grande's show began, she was playing Mac Miller's music in the stadium.

Grande Will Have Voting Registration Booths at All Her Shows

HeadCount revealed on Twitter that Grande invited the organization to help register voters at all her shows. The Thank U Next Gen program will allow fans to "register to vote, get election alerts, contact your legislators about issues you care about or get a reminder to register to vote at your 18th birthday," HeadCount wrote on the platform.

Fans assembled Grande's setlist , which includes a staggering 30 songs. She started her first show with "Raindrops" and ended with "Thank U, Next."

To say it’s been an eventful year for Ariana Grande would be an understatement. She released her album Positions , started her new post as a judge on The Voice , and, oh yeah, she also got married . The superstar has made the most of her 2021, delivering stellar fashion moments along the way. Vogue is taking a look back at some of her best outfits of the year—all 19 of them, to be exact.

In September, the singer kicked off her stint as a judge on The Voice . Earlier this year, she sported a metallic blue party dress with puffed shoulders and a waist cut-out by Miss Sohee, a London-based label. But maybe her most viral hit was when she wore the 2000s Versace dress from 13 Going on 30 .

Outside of the show, Grande has delivered many chic moments for her stage performances. For the 2021 iHeart Radio Music Awards, she wore a silky wrap top from Rat & Boa with a matching skirt and diamond necklaces to perform with The Weeknd. For her live Vevo performance of Positions , she belted it out in sleek leather pants, a bra top, and opera gloves (what a combination!). Grande really refined her aesthetic this year, finding ensembles that are the perfect mixture of fun, current, and timeless.

Her best look of the year, though, wasn’t on TV or the stage—it was what she wore while marrying her husband , Dalton Gomez, at her California home back in May. For her special day, Grande enlisted Vera Wang to create her wedding dress: a custom lily white, silk charmeuse, empire-waist column gown. The elegant look was complete with a plunging back and hand-pleated bubble veil. It was a fresh take on classic bridal style, and 100 percent Ariana. The bride didn’t say I do; she said , “Yuh!”

Wearing a custom-made Giambattista Valli tulle gown and matching gloves, Grande's red-carpet look for the 2020 Grammys looks straight out of a fairy tale.

While performing “No Tears Left to Cry,” the singer looked both chic and sexy in her Empire-waist LBD with matching thigh-high boots and blinged-out choker.

I met with Law and we discussed the direction she wants to go in. She’s trying to do a different direction with her style, and this tour kind of encompasses all of that. It’s kind of street style — everything that’s happening now. So we had a meeting and went over the images and silhouettes that she likes.

What was it like working with Law?

It was awesome. He has a really good sense of direction. He lets you know if he likes something or not, but he also gives you your freedom to create what you want.

So were you given a lot of creative freedom for this tour?

Yeah. Most of the looks are my direct aesthetic, so I put my stamp on it. It was just a certain silhouette that she wanted and certain colors, and that’s how we met in the middle. We had a couple of looks that were in her silhouette, which is usually high-waisted bodysuits, shorts, skirts and crop tops. It’s very flattering on her so we have a lot of items in that shape.

What materials did you use?

Everything was a mixture of leather, denim, strappy fabrics (because there’s a lot of straps on everything) and hardware. We use a lot of sweatshirt fabric because everything is very relaxed-looking. It doesn’t have a lot going on in terms of the details.

What would be three words you’d use to describe the collection?

Confident, feminine and dangerous.

What is your favorite look from the tour collection?

I think my favorite one is going to be the white two-piece. It’s a crop top and a bodysuit skirt with a leather flap. She’s also wearing it with a big puffer jacket. It’s all white and it’s super crispy with thigh-high boots. It just looks really chic.

How long did it take to put all of these looks together?

It was pretty quick because I heard about the job maybe two and half weeks ago and we had to scramble and get everything ready to go. So we’ve been working all the way up to today, and the show’s in a couple of hours and we’re still getting last-minute things done.

Wow, that’s really intense. What’s it like to work under that kind of pressure?

It’s kind of stressful, but it’s also exciting because you have to problem-solve really quick. Sometimes you’ll get an idea that you wouldn’t have thought about if you had more time to think because sometimes when you have a lot time, you change your mind too much and then you’re not certain on exactly what you want.

What’s the difference between designing for Ariana and other people, like Keke Palmer or Kylie Jenner?

The difference is when I design for Ariana, it’s more like a custom idea — more for performance. And then for Keke and Kylie, it’s more for streetwear and things that they would wear when they’re walking around. And they tend to wear more from my collection. Ariana is more specific to her.

When it comes to the difference between performance wear and streetwear, what’s the big difference for you in terms of designing?

You have to keep in mind that they’re going to be moving around and dancing, and things have to last for awhile, so that’s what I have to think about. The other girls were more to look cool and it’s not as comfortable maybe as it would be to perform in.

What have you learned from this experience and how have you grown?

I’ve learned just to be patient and take whatever advice or direction someone’s trying to give you. Just problem-solve and go for it.

It’s been a wild ride so far for the multi-talented songstress Ariana Grande . The 26 year-old singer, who got her start on the Nickelodeon show Victorious , has become nothing short of a pop icon since her musical debut in 2013 with The Way (featuring the late Mac Miller).

Since then, Grande has gone from strength to strength , suffering through both the aftermath of the terror attack at her Manchester show in 2017, the death of her ‘best friend’ Mac, and living with the anxiety and PTSD that followed these events.

Ariana’s Sweetener world tour, which has a combined set list consisting of songs from both 2018’s Sweetener and 2019’s thank u, next , kicked off in New York in spring of this year.

In celebration of this (and because I will be attending the European leg of Ari’s tour *screech*) today’s post is dedicated to Ariana Grande Sweetener tour outfits based on some of Ariana’s most popular music videos!

Concert Looks Inspired by Ariana

Given that Ariana is a certified style icon (we owe the sweater dress and baby hair slide trends to her and her alone), let’s get into these concert looks so you can channel your inner Ari, no matter the occasion!

Look 1 – god is a woman

For this first look, I decided to take inspiration from sweetener’s god is a woman music video. The video itself is nothing short of spectacular, featuring mythological and religious imagery , pastel aesthetics, and of course, stunning vocals from Ariana.

This image in particular caught my eye, as Ariana lies in a pool of purple, pink and blue hues, channeling her inner goddess. I encapsulated this visual through a renaissance-print bodysuit, matching trousers, and contrasting lilac heels.

Look 2 – thank u, next

Conversely, Ariana’s music video for thank u next gives off a cooler vibe in comparison to our first example, which is more over-the-top. Here, she channels her inner Elle Woods and recreates the iconic bend and snap salon scene for a younger audience.

To copy this look for your Ariana Grande concert outfit, simply pair a fluffy pink top with some blue boyfriend jeans, a red belt and platform heels. A replica of Ariana’s gorgeous top was hard to find, but I eventually discovered this similar pink crop top from the ever-trendy ASOS Design label.

Look 3 – 7 rings

For this final look, I took inspiration from the pinkest of pink music videos: 7 rings . Another iconic thank u, next era video, this hip hop-infused track boasts a girly, blingy MV, featuring Ari and her friends flexing their riches at a pink house party.

To recreate Ariana’s camo chic look on a college budget, look no further than this all-pink outfit. I’ve put together the look with some camo trousers from Pretty Little Thing , black neon-accent boots from Dolls Kill , plus a co-ordinated tape belt like the one Ariana wears in the MV. This is the ultimate casual and cute concert outfit. You’re welcome.

For the 101 date tour, Ari dragged an enormous stage wardrobe of outfits around the world with her in colours in pinks, oranges, reds and black.

These were all custom made by luxury Italian fashion brand, Versace, with the 'Positions' singer thanking Versace for 'making this lil italian chick’s dreams come tru'.

Here's everything she's wore on the tour so you can pull inspo' from the drool-worthy selection of two pieces and of course, matching knee high boots.

One of the bolder looks saw Ari opt for a caged red bra-let made of multiple straps and puffy sleeves that incorporated a choker, a matching mini skirt and her signature platform boots.

The 'Just Like Magic' singer rocked a custom '7 Rings' jacket as another of her tour ensembles in what appears to be a tongue-in-cheek reference to the pink ladies from Grease .

Knee highs were obviously present.

How did she find the time to change this often?!

Taking it back to the 90s, Ariana channelled Clueless with her checked pleased skirt and matching boots and this is definitely one of the loudest patterns we've ever seen the singer wear.

And we're so into it?!

Would it really be a tour if Ariana didn't throw it back to her black PVC era?!

The 'thank u, next' star gave off 'Dangerous Woman' vibes with her all black ensemble which is always a crowd pleaser.

Now THIS is iconic Ari - pastel pic and as fluffy as a cloud... just how we like her!

Ari's space-themed outfit consisted of a lilac satin utility belt teamed with baggy boot covers and silver shoes.

And just to complete the colours of the rainbow, Ariana went for an orange jacket, bralette and gathered skirt combo.

We wanna go to see her just for the outfits alone (the absolute TUNES are just an added bonus).

It was great to see Ariana play around with fashion and a whole lot of colour on this tour- it was always going to be an Italian brand who managed to push the singer out of her usual fashion comfort zone!

The songstress rocked a rainbow of color during her first show..

There are no tears left to cry over  Ariana Grande 's tour looks—because they all steal the show. 

The songstress kicked off her Sweetener World Tour on Monday in Albany, finally revealing the results of weeks of prep for her fourth concert tour. In addition to the vocals and dance moves, the lighting and set design, fans finally got to see what Grande will wear as she brings her hits around the world. 

The star spared no style for the big show, sporting not one, not two, not three, but  seven costume changes throughout the night, including one sexy black one by Versace. 

"But wow what a moment @versace @sweetener thanks for making this lil italian chick's dreams come tru w all my custom looks," the performer wrote on Instagram. "Love u forever and am extraordinarily grateful."

All the fashionistas out in the audience were just as grateful for the array of style inspiration, pulled together with help from celebrity stylist Law Roach . Take a look for yourself with E!'s gallery of every look below: 

While she needed no help standing out from the crowd, Grande made a statement in a red strappy top adorned with buckles, paired with a matching skirt and another set of coordinating boots. 

The songstress rocked a pink ensemble consisting of a jacket, bra top and bottoms adorned with a skirt also by Michael Ngo. 

Elsewhere in the show, she ditched the jacket and sported another layer with voluminous sleeves. 

The star took us on a walk on the moon in a purple top and cut-out bottoms by Michael Ngo with Casadei silver platform booties. 

Grande was giving us major  Clueless vibes when she stepped out in a yellow, pink and blue plaid crop top, skirt and boots. 

The songstress opted for color in the form of an orange crop top paired with a matching skirt and sheer boots, both by Unravel. 

For one of the looks, Grande switched into a custom black, crystal-embellished dress with safety pins by Versace paired with matching custom patent leather, over-the-knee boots by Giuseppe Zanotti.

All finally became clear on Tuesday night, however, when Corden aired a segment in which he and Grande visited a haunted escape room ― a detour while they were filming the “Carpool” segment. It turns out that Grande stumbled in the pitch-black venue and fell awkwardly onto her hand.

By re-engaging fans with a mixed-reality approach that proved its usefulness with Sweetener, Grande’s team partnered up with Google and Landmrk to set up promotional billboards throughout the US and Canada. So while Ariana Grande is a great singer, she’s also a marketing superstar.

So when Ariana Grande started promoting her new album, Sweetener, in August 2018, Island Records and Landmrk – a location-based VR platform – teamed up to market her music to new and existing fans alike. Grande and her team engaged her fan base by sending them on a treasure hunt across the UK to find “Sweet Spots” (hotspots).

The tour received positive reviews from critics, who complimented the stage design and Grande’s vocals. The Sweetener World Tour was attended by 1.3 million people and grossed $146.6 million from 97 shows, surpassing her previous concert tour, the Dangerous Woman Tour, as her highest-grossing tour to date.

The tour grossed $106.9 million in the U.S. and Canada and $39.5 million in Europe. Overall, Grande’s total tour figures extend to $243.5 million with 2.7 million tickets sold from 229 shows.

The Sweetener World Tour played 68 shows in North America, in addition 29 dates in Europe, all running from March 18 – December 22, 2019. Grande delivered $106.9 million in the U.S. and Canada, as opposed to $39.5 million in Europe, amounting to a 73% / 27% split.

Ariana Grande kicked off her Sweetener World Tour on March 18, 2019 in Albany, New York. Ariana Grande will wrap up her nine-month Sweetener World Tour in December. The tour has been her biggest ever, earning Grande $80 million and surpassing her previous tours’ worldwide totals before it was even halfway done.

Grande announced the title of the tour as the “Sweetener World Tour” on October 24, 2018, announcing its North American dates a day later. The first leg of the tour had 50 shows across North America and visited 45 cities, beginning on March 18, 2019, in Albany and concluding on August 4, 2019, at Lollapalooza.

Bryan Hearns is no newbie to designing for celebs. The Fashion Institute of Design and Merchandising alum stayed in Los Angeles after graduating in 2010 and linked up with Style PR’s Antonio Esteban, who acquainted Hearns with the many names he works with today. From Keke Palmer to Kylie Jenner to Selena Gomez, the 26-year-old has had no shortage of it-girls to dress in his eclectic designs.

Grande is no stranger to his work: She rocked Hearns ‘ designs on Billboard’s August 2014 cover and donned a custom top by him at the iHeartRadio Jingle Ball. When Hearns was approached by Law Roach, stylist to Grande as well as Zendaya and Celine Dion, to develop her Dangerous Woman tour outfits, it was a match made in fashion heaven.

What was the collaborative process like while creating Ariana’s tour looks?

I met with Law and we discussed the direction she wants to go in. She’s trying to do a different direction with her style, and this tour kind of encompasses all of that. It’s kind of street style — everything that’s happening now. So we had a meeting and went over the images and silhouettes that she likes.

What was it like working with Law?

It was awesome. He has a really good sense of direction. He lets you know if he likes something or not, but he also gives you your freedom to create what you want.

So were you given a lot of creative freedom for this tour?

Yeah. Most of the looks are my direct aesthetic , so I put my stamp on it. It was just a certain silhouette that she wanted and certain colors, and that’s how we met in the middle. We had a couple of looks that were in her silhouette, which is usually high-waisted bodysuits , shorts, skirts and crop tops. It’s very flattering on her so we have a lot of items in that shape.

What materials did you use?

Everything was a mixture of leather, denim, strappy fabrics (because there’s a lot of straps on everything) and hardware. We use a lot of sweatshirt fabric because everything is very relaxed-looking. It doesn’t have a lot going on in terms of the details.

What would be three words you’d use to describe the collection?

Confident, feminine and dangerous.

I think my favorite one is going to be the white two-piece. It’s a crop top and a bodysuit skirt with a leather flap. She’s also wearing it with a big puffer jacket. It’s all white and it’s super crispy with thigh-high boots. It just looks really chic.

How long did it take to put all of these looks together?

It was pretty quick because I heard about the job maybe two and half weeks ago and we had to scramble and get everything ready to go. So we’ve been working all the way up to today, and the show’s in a couple of hours and we’re still getting last-minute things done.

Wow, that’s really intense. What’s it like to work under that kind of pressure?

It’s kind of stressful, but it’s also exciting because you have to problem-solve really quick. Sometimes you’ll get an idea that you wouldn’t have thought about if you had more time to think because sometimes when you have a lot time, you change your mind too much and then you’re not certain on exactly what you want.

What’s the difference between designing for Ariana and other people, like Keke Palmer or Kylie Jenner ?

The difference is when I design for Ariana , it’s more like a custom idea — more for performance. And then for Keke and Kylie, it’s more for streetwear and things that they would wear when they’re walking around. And they tend to wear more from my collection. Ariana is more specific to her.

When it comes to the difference between performance wear and streetwear , what’s the big difference for you in terms of designing?

You have to keep in mind that they’re going to be moving around and dancing, and things have to last for awhile, so that’s what I have to think about. The other girls were more to look cool and it’s not as comfortable maybe as it would be to perform in.

What have you learned from this experience and how have you grown?

I’ve learned just to be patient and take whatever advice or direction someone’s trying to give you. Just problem-solve and go for it.

How Press Tours Became Hollywood’s Fiercest Fashion Battleground

Luca Guadagnino’s tennis tryst Challengers opened in theaters to $15 million this weekend, earning it the top spot at the domestic box office and the damp-browed adoration of style-minded critics and horny TikTok fans alike. But if the decision to hold the film’s planned release last fall due to the SAG strike is any indication, some of its box-office success is likely thanks to the tireless promotional efforts of its stars Zendaya , Josh O’Connor , and Mike Faist , who spent the last month flying all over the globe, putting on designer outfits (mostly by Jonathan Anderson , who costumed the film), and posing in front of various step-and-repeats.

Zendaya is, without question, the paragon of contemporary press tour style. She and her stylist of 13 years, Law Roach, pioneered a mode of “method dressing,” as Roach recently told Vogue . “The looks served as an extension of the wardrobe from the movie; it was intentional and purposeful.”

For the Challengers press tour, Zendaya and Roach leaned fully into a themed wardrobe, compiling dozens of designer outfits chosen for their to-the-letter sporty flair: a pleated Thom Browne gown adorned with tennis racket appliqués; a custom Celia Kritharioti minidress featuring a sequined rendering of Zendaya’s face on the movie poster; a glittering Loewe tennis dress and stilettos whose heels pierced life-size tennis balls. And many, many shades of fluorescent chartreuse.

Ahead of the first press event in Sydney, Roach described Zendaya’s debut look (a glittering green Loewe dress printed with a silhouette of a person wielding a racket) in a Vogue video as “our first unh into the world” of the film, an inaugural gesture to the Challengers cinematic universe. Zendaya, who also produced the film, even lightened her hair to a honey blonde for the occasion—a nod, she said, to the “old money” tennis lifestyle but also as a way to differentiate this from the global Dune: Part Two tour , which she’d wrapped just weeks prior.

This mode of hyper-precise, Easter-egg-laden “method dressing” has become the de facto dress code for big-ticket media tours over the last year. For Dune , Zendaya and her fellow young costars all dressed in a moody, techno-futuristic mood; afterwards, Timothée Chalamet—who also just ran a double-press-tour gauntlet, for Dune and Wonka —quickly pivoted to gourmand suits fit for a fictional chocolatier . The main red-carpet event of last year was Margot Robbie and Ryan Gosling’s pastel-pink Barbie pageant , which Robbie recently parlayed into a Rizzoli coffee-table book . These ultra-literal red-carpet looks then go viral on Instagram, X, and TikTok, where rabbit-hole-prone users love to dissect the meanings and references behind any given outfit.

For busy actors and their similarly overworked stylists , a successful press tour—which can comprise red carpets, press junkets, photocalls, on-camera interviews, and meet-and-greets—generates personal buzz, too. Never have great gowns, beautiful gowns mattered more.

(This also happens in the music world, except instead of press tours we have the Swiftian notion of “eras,” wherein musicians style themselves around the theme of their new album: Think Billie Eilish bleaching her formerly green-rooted hair platinum for her grown-up sophomore album Happier Than Ever , Taylor Swift wearing celestial garments around Midnights , or Harry Styles wearing psychedelic fashion to promote his retro-pastiche Harry’s House. )

We’ve seen it play out in subtler ways on the menswear side, too, from Robert Pattinson’s hot-goth outfits for The Batman to Jacob Elordi’s classic-leading-man cosplay around Priscilla and Saltburn .

On the Challengers press tour, the movie’s male leads—O’Connor and Faist—were perhaps understandably daunted by the unfair task of having to pose next to Zendaya, for which Chalamet had already faced the internet’s wrath . Both mostly opted for Anderson’s designs (the duo also attended the Loewe runway show together back in January). O’Connor went for some kooky pulls, including a floppy-sleeved green-and-gray suit and a printed dress shirt modeled after his character’s JFK Jr.-inspired tee .

Faist, meanwhile, looked like he was trying his hardest to skirt the whole press-tour-style charade entirely by wearing relatively normal clothes—or, as WWD put it , “refusing to play the dress-up game.” At one event, posed next to Zendaya in a Jacquemus polo dress and O’Connor in a wonky knit sweater and leather pants, Faist wore…a white tee, a chambray shirt, and jeans.

Weeks into the Challengers press tour, Faist settled for jeans.

On X , one fan joked: “Do you think Mike gets confused every time Josh and Z say they have to go change for the 5th time in a day but he only brought one outfit?”

Theme dressing aside, the more-is-more approach to media-tour fashion isn’t new. In 2015, actress Blake Lively—who is somewhat of an anomaly in Hollywood, in that she is known for self-styling—made headlines for wearing seven outfits in one day while promoting her film The Age of Adaline . Lively told People she’d been planning her press wardrobe for months, saying she had “selected easily over 500 looks from Style.com, various runways and even some past collections. I wound up calling in 256 outfits.” Wild for 2015 standards, but mild in a post-Law Roach world.

In 2017, Gabrielle Union’s stylist Thomas Christos Kikis spoke to The Hollywood Reporter about the style circus-ification of media tours. “When you’re doing New York Fashion Week, you have to change looks, so it kind of conditions you. And you see what the response is when you do that, so you think, ‘Oh let’s just create a press tour like Fashion Week,” Kikis said. “It’s becoming more of an opportunity to showcase fashion and not just your movie or book or whatever you’re doing press about.”

Nearly a decade after Lively’s 256-outfit anomaly, the high-glitz, high-effort industry of “press tour style” is booming, particularly for labels clamoring to get their latest designs onto hot actors—some of whom have inked official brand partnerships or may receive compensation for wearing a certain label to a big event. And in a crowded media landscape, it’s never too early for fashion publicity.

Even though their film Wicked won't hit theaters until November, Cynthia Erivo and Ariana Grande wore thematic green and pink gowns to the Oscars in March.

When the first trailer for the forthcoming Wicked movie premiered during the Super Bowl in February, its stars Cynthia Erivo and Ariana Grande staged a tunnel-walk-style photoshoot wearing custom sequined Louis Vuitton jerseys in Elphaba green and Glinda pink, each emblazoned with the number 27—as in the film’s release date, November 27. But babe, that’s still nine months away! (The duo doubled down a few weeks later, wearing respective green and pink gowns to the 2024 Oscars.) On her Instagram story , Grande let slip a bit of incidental press-tour-style metacommentary: “I truly hope you are all ready for this press tour,” she wrote, indicating that her fashion wheels had already begun turning well ahead of Wicked ’s standard promotional schedule.

In other words: Welcome to the press tour for the press tour.

A ccording to new research from fashion experts at Boohoo , which analyzed the results of U.S. Google searches for style-related terms including "[artist] fashion" and "[artist] style" for 100 women in the music industry, Taylor Swift  takes the top spot the most-searched female artist when it comes to style.

With 107,442 average monthly Google searches regarding her style, the number of search results for Taylor Swift's wardrobe typically spikes after one of the star's highly-photographed public appearances, often capturing the star experimenting with color, pattern, texture or shine, is published to the internet. Most recently, the 14-time Grammy winner was heavily searched online after appearing at the 58th annual Super Bowl in an outfit costing over $50,000 from designer Dion Lee.

Right behind Swift in second place is Stevie Nicks with an average of 18,808 monthly Google searches for her outfits, most prominently from her career in the 70s and 80s. Often used as style inspiration among modern researchers, Nicks is most well-known for her hippie-inspired aesthetic that mixed vintage textiles and airy silhouettes with more masculine footwear.

Third on the list is R&B artist Aaliyah, with an average of 15,601 monthly Google searches regarding her fashion. With baggy silhouettes, bright colors and matching sets considered wardrobe staples for the singer, Aaliyah is often referred to as a symbol of 90s fashion and is often used as style inspiration for the decade.

The remainder of the study concluded that Beyoncé , with an average of 14,365 monthly Google searches, placed fourth most popular; Lady Gaga, with an average of 11,298 monthly searches, placed fifth; Melanie Martinez, with an average of 10,612 monthly searches, placed sixth; Ariana Grande, with an average of 9,558 monthly searches, placed seventh; Doja Cat, with an average of 8,494 monthly searches, placed eighth; Rihanna, with an average of 7,939 monthly searches, placed ninth; and Lana Del Rey, with an average of 7,875 monthly searches, placed tenth.

In a statement, Boohoo commented on the results, highlighting the women behind the looks. "While these women have completely different styles, they all have impeccable fashion sense. They not only have a keen eye for style, but also the confidence to carry their unique looks with grace. Of course, these iconic outfits wouldn't be possible without their designers, with Taylor Swift working with everyone from Versace to Julien MacDonald. Their influence extends beyond the red carpet, inspiring fans to explore creativity and individuality in their looks. They show that fashion isn't just about following trends, and that we should never be afraid of expressing ourselves through our clothes."

Inside Bad Bunny’s Houses: Tour Where the Latin Superstar Lives

Now that Benito Antonio Martínez Ocasio, better known as Bad Bunny, is a global superstar, it makes sense that he’s been shopping around for trophy properties. Bad Bunny’s houses on both coasts are the epitome of luxury, and he’s come a long way from where he grew up in Almirante Sur, a rural area in Vega Baja, Puerto Rico. Still, he enjoys frequent visits home: In Puerto Rico, he feels comforted by the relative calm and privacy that he experiences with loved ones.

“Outside of that house, perhaps the world is listening and talking about me. But in that house, everything is the same,” he told Time magazine in a cover story last March about visiting with family at his home in Puerto Rico. “It’s beautiful for me to go there and [my parents] still look at me with the eyes of, ‘Come here, Benito Antonio. The Baby. The son.’” It’s a stark contrast from his bustling professional life: The rapper will cohost the Met Gala with Jennifer Lopez , Zendaya , and Chris Hemsworth on May 6; he has three consecutive Grammy wins in the best latin pop or urban album category; and he’s in the midst of his Most Wanted Tour, making headlines for his fashion choices as well as his collaborations with everyone from Travis Scott to Drake to SZA. Below, we’ve rounded up what we know about Bad Bunny’s extravagant dwellings.

Puerto Rico mansion

During the pandemic, Bad Bunny hunkered down at a million-dollar rental mansion in San Juan (a property that he’s kept largely private save for a few Instagram Live videos he posted during lockdown). Just prior to the start of the pandemic, the musician shared some insight into his favorite spots on his home island—“through Vega Alta, Dorado, [my hometown] Vega Baja, Manatí, Barceloneta, Arecibo—all the way to the west side of the island.” His first meal whenever he’s back in town, he told Condé Nast Traveler , is typically “a beer and some fish—usually mofongo or octopus ceviche. I love the coastal restaurants.”

Big rig Airbnb

In 2022, Bad Bunny partnered with Airbnb to offer fans a once-in-a-lifetime experience : a chance to spend one night on the 53-foot matte black semitruck which appeared on the cover of his 2021 album El Último Tour Del Mundo. The truck, which was designed by West Coast Customs, featured chrome flames, a customized grill, and all-leather interiors. A stay on the Miami-based big rig cost $91 a night—a nod to his record-breaking 9.1 billion streams on Spotify in 2021. “Being on tour has reconnected me with my fans and the energy they give me during each show in every city we visit is incredible,” he said at the time . “This truck has played such a big role in the concept of my tour and my last album that I want to share this unique experience with them.” Fans can unfortunately no longer book a stay on the big rig.

Hollywood Hills contemporary

The following year, Bad Bunny dropped $8.8 million for a contemporary Hollywood Hills estate set on a little over half an acre. The property comprises an angular five-bedroom main house and a separate two-bedroom guesthouse with its own kitchen, measuring a combined 7,316 square feet. The dwelling was originally built in 2005 but has been recently renovated. Images of the interiors reveal pristine white walls and ample floor-to-ceiling windows that flood the home with natural light. There is a sunken living room and chef’s kitchen, as well as a wet bar just off the living room. The primary bedroom boasts a cavernous walk-in closet with its own lounge area. The grounds are dotted with palm trees and an inviting BBQ kitchen area, and the centerpiece of the backyard is the infinity pool with an inset spa, which features panoramic city views.

West Chelsea luxury rental

Also in 2023, Bad Bunny broke records in real estate after renting out a four-bedroom, four-and-a-half bathroom penthouse duplex in the West Chelsea neighborhood of New York for $150,000 a month —reportedly the most expensive apartment in the city. The stylish pad, which was on the market for $18.5 million, checks off all of the Bullet Train star’s aesthetic preferences: It is airy and high-ceilinged, with spectacular city views and a private 32-foot lap pool. There is a total of 4,552 square feet of living space, with an additional 4,593 square feet of outdoor space, including an outdoor kitchen and a landscaped rooftop with a view of the Hudson River. Of note indoors: an eat-in kitchen with terrazzo floors and wood paneling, as well as a library with a spiral staircase leading up onto the aforementioned roof and a terrace. It appears that the musician still maintains this home.

Bird Streets residence

Bad Bunny’s next purchase came with some musical lineage—he paid Ariana Grande $8.3 million for her Bird Streets hideaway in early 2024. The reggaeton star’s latest residence reportedly comprises a single-story structure measuring less than 1,600 square feet, a two-car garage, and an angular swimming pool situated on three hillside parcels. Originally built in 1946, the three-bedroom, two-bathroom house is decidedly smaller than Bad Bunny’s other properties. Grande bought the rustic contemporary home for $8.9 million in an off-market deal in 2021, reportedly with plans of building a dream home there with her then fiancé, real estate agent Dalton Gomez.

"Last time you were on the show, we're talking, I said, 'What are you doing?' Because you did That's My Jam  with me, and you sang so well," recalled Jimmy Fallon . "Everyone's like, 'Kate Hudson has the best voice.' And I was like, 'You have to put something out,' and you're like, 'I might be working on something.' Then it's here!"

"Two-and-a-half years in the making," Hudson said as Fallon held up the album cover. "I can't believe it."

"How does it feel to say you have a debut album?" he asked.

"It's like too much to explain. It's just the greatest feeling," she replied. "I love music. I've loved music my entire life. It was my first love. I've been writing music my whole life. I just thought it was something I'd only have for myself, until COVID. And then I was like... 'I'll regret not just putting it out in the world.' So I did."

The songs on the album span various genres like rock, soul, and country, and were written by Hudson, working with her fiancé, Danny Fujikawa ,  and legendary songwriter Linda Perry.

"It was so fun because I'd never had a collaborative writing experience," she explained to Fallon. "The first thing on it, actually is probably what I'm going to sing tonight. And I was like, 'I don't know. I want it to feel swampy. Let's start with something swampy.' I don't know what happened but in two weeks we had 26 songs, Linda was like 'I think we need to stop.' Because we were on a roll."

When asked about how the title Glorious came about, the Almost Famous  actress said, "It's a song on the album, it's a big sweeping ballad. Linda and I wrote that song together in like 10 minutes. It was just one of those songs that we both looked at each other after writing it and went, 'Oh, that was intense.'"

Hudson is performing a live album release show at The Bellweather in L.A. on May 18, and when asked about a tour, she teased that more dates were coming: "I'm getting back on the bus, man!"

If her Tonight Show performance is any indication, those seeing her live are in for a treat. Hudson sang "Gonna Find Out," a sultry southern rock track that showcased her beautiful vocals and brought the party with backup singers and band, complete with a sax solo.

"What are you talking about? That's how you do it," exclaimed Fallon as he hugged Hudson. "That's amazing!"

Hudson's debut performance truly was Rock perfection — something that would make Penny Lane proud.

The Man Who Never Says No to Zendaya

The stylist Law Roach on his role as an “image architect,” being a diva and his master plan for what’s next.

Last March, Law Roach seemed to be at the peak of his career as a celebrity stylist. He had won the first stylist of the year award from the Council of Fashion Designers of America, and was working with Zendaya, Celine Dion, Anya Taylor-Joy and Anne Hathaway, among others. Then, out of the blue, he announced on Instagram that he was quitting .

“The politics, the lies, and false narratives finally got me!” he wrote. “You win … I’m out.”

Cue shock, horror and a lot of speculation. There were rumors that he had called Priyanka Chopra Jonas fat. Rumors that he had thrown a tantrum because Louis Vuitton wouldn’t seat him next to Zendaya in the front row. Whispers that he had become more of a diva than the divas he served. (He did, after all, call himself an “image architect,” trademark the term and insist that everyone else call him that, too.) But there were also questions about racism in fashion . And there was curiosity. Was it really over?

It was, it turned out, a somewhat dramatic career pivot.

On May 6, Mr. Roach is dressing Zendaya, a host of the Met Gala, which he is also attending. (He has been choreographing her wardrobe for the “Challengers” promotional tour.) The same day, he will make his debut as a judge on a new E! network show with Julia Fox, “ OMG Fashun ,” a competition series focused on upcycling old textiles into one-of-a-kind garments. He has a how-to book coming out. And he is plotting a certification course for would-be stylists, which will, essentially, mass-market and formalize his approach.

It’s about getting “at the core of who someone is,” he said. “The dress is the last part of it.” Here’s some of the rest.

Were you surprised by the reaction to your Instagram announcement?

The first two, three months were really hard. So much of who I was depended on what I was doing, and I felt like I didn’t know who I was. I was just tired. Also, my nephew died the year before. He was 3, and he fell out a window the day before Thanksgiving. I never had a real time to grieve because I was working and working and working. So I went through this grieving process for him and for my career. I went through guilt, thinking that people who look up to me were going to see me as a quitter, and sadness.

But you chose to announce that you were quitting. Was it because you think stylists don’t get enough respect?

I felt like every time I came into a room, I still had to prove myself. I changed the trajectory of people’s careers, changed their visibility, but I still have to argue for what I think is the best look. And if the gatekeepers don’t like the relationship, automatically I became too expensive or too problematic.

How much of a diva are you?

A big misunderstanding is that I’m unapproachable. But I kind of created that because I didn’t want to be distracted by L.A. and New York and the lifestyle, so I decided to be mean and make people not like me so they wouldn’t invite me to their birthday parties, so I wouldn’t have to feel guilty for not going. Also, I have a reputation on television of really being in your face — “I don’t like you, why did you make me look at that, the performance was terrible.” So people were like, “Oh, he’s so nasty.” I think that at the moment I wrote that post, I just wanted to be left alone.

What did you actually do?

I am from Chicago and live in L.A., but I have a property with 19 acres in Georgia I bought during Covid. I was able to trace my family lineage back to slavery, and I found both sides of my family, including that someone on the white side owned one of my ancestors. When the owner relative died, he left the other relative, who was then 5 years old, to his 9-year-old son. Thinking about a 9-year-old owning a person was so painful for me, I thought, I want to own a plantation. It became a safe place for my family to go.

Then I did a book, “How to Build a Fashion Icon: Notes on Confidence From the World’s Only Image Architect.” It’s essentially a self-help book.

You don’t seem that retired.

I’m the most unretired retired person. But everything I’m doing now is on my own terms. I’ve been saying no to a lot of unhappy people. Except Zendaya. I can’t say no to her.

Speaking of Zendaya, tell me a little about how you work with her. She has been your client since she was 13. Do you tell her what to wear?

We call each other our fashion soul mates. We also refer to our relationship as “big ideas, small details.” I come in with, “You should wear 14 dresses, and you should change, and you should have a wig on and take it off so your hair should fall down!” And she’s, “No, no, no, no. We’re going to do two dresses, and I’m going to keep the same hair.”

It’s like, I write the script, and she does the rewrites. Not saying that we don’t argue, because we do, and we fight over things. But I know my place. I know she’s the boss, and she also has enough respect for me and love for me to let me be the boss sometimes.

Can you tell us anything about what she is wearing to the Met?

I haven’t seen Zendaya’s dress! We’ve been on two press tours — “Dune 2” and “Challengers” — and doing two Vogue covers. The dress isn’t even made. They won’t fit until Saturday.

Is wanting to be the boss what is behind your desire to go into styling academia?

I always asked the question, “Why don’t we see more people who look like me doing this job?” We just don’t get the same opportunities. This is one of the ways I’m going to combat that.

You can take all the master classes you want, but that doesn’t necessarily give you a shot at entering the industry. My idea is, you take a certification course, based on my way of styling. There will also be electives from industry people who support the curriculum, like financial literacy, because as an independent contractor, I learned from my mistakes.

What mistakes?

My first year, I made $120,000. I thought I was rich, to be quite honest, but nobody had ever tapped me on my shoulder and said, “Hey, most of that has gone into taxes.” So I spent $100,000. And then I got into tax debt. I owed $65,000. The only reason I knew is because I went to the A.T.M., and there was no money in there.

Hold on a second. Not to change the subject, but is that your hair on a stand on the table?

I have a really, really short haircut. When I started doing television — I did “Legendary” for three seasons, and the final two seasons of “America’s Next Top Model” — I was inspired by a stylist and D.J. named Andre J . He was really cool in the early ’90s, and he did a French Vogue cover, this black man with this hair and a beard, and it kind of changed my life.

So when “America’s Next Top Model” came around, I thought, “Oh, I’ll put on this long, straight hair and create this separate, diva-ish person, and my clients won’t recognize me.” But it didn’t work. It’s become part of me.

What’s the difference between the private you and the public you?

When I’m with my clients, the client is always the priority. But when I started doing television, I got to feel like the priority. I love having my own identity. I don’t want to be known as Celine Dion’s stylist or Ariana Grande’s stylist. Being on television gave me the license to demand to be treated as my own person. I want my headline to be “Law Roach, former stylist, now sits at the helm of a billion-dollar company.”

So you have a plan to get to a billion?

We can write books and manuals. We can take what we do with the course and package it and sell it to other people. We could buy a brand. I really want to buy a brand. I have one in mind.

Which brand?

Emanuel Ungaro. I need a brand that has a legacy. It’s a natural transition, I think, from good stylist to good designer or, hopefully, great designer. I want to own the brand, which may turn into buying other brands, which can turn into my own version of LVMH or Kering. I actually have the wedding dress that was the last look of Mr. Ungaro’s last couture show in a dress box under my bed. It’s been there for six, seven years. I’m using that to manifest. I really believe in manifesting. I think that’s my next book.
